Shania Twain Polishes Off ‘Queen of Me’ Album Announcement With 2023 Tour Dates
By Larisha Paul
Larisha Paul
Shania Twain will release her sixth studio album Queen of M e on Feb. 3, her first full-length record in nearly six years. Alongside her Republic Nashville debut, the country icon will embark on a global arena tour spanning 49 dates, including stops at Nashville’s Geodis Park on June 7 and at New York’s Madison Square Garden on July 11.
“This new record is fun and celebrative, really on the other side of Now ,” Twain told Rina Sawayama in a recent Rolling Stone Musicians on Musicians interview . “I’m happy in my own skin. I’m celebrating that feeling, less apologetic for who I am and what I’ve become. This is me, and I like myself.”
She added: “A lot of it was written during the pandemic. There’s nothing better for me than to not have enough to do, because the first thing I do is pick up my guitar and start songwriting. Now I’ve got four albums’ worth. I’m not kidding.”
The Queen of Me Tour marks Twain’s first proper trip on the road since the completion of her Las Vegas residency. The span of shows kicks off on Friday, April 28, at Spokane Arena in Spokane, Washington. Twain will appear in Seattle, Vancouver, Calgary, Denver, Los Angeles, Montreal, Kansas City, Dallas, London, Dublin, and more. The tour concludes Sept. 26 at England’s Utilita Arena Birmingham.

Shania Twain is back on tour. The country queen talks throat surgery, set list and liquid diets
A few years ago, Shania Twain wasn’t sure if she’d ever find her voice again.
Open-throat surgery to repair her damaged vocal cords – a long-gestating result of Lyme disease she contracted in 2003 – was frightening but necessary.
Now, the comely country-pop superstar has returned with confidence and vigor as she celebrates the release of “ Queen of Me ” – her first album in six years – and readies the Friday launch of her seven-month tour bearing the same name.
It's her first tour in five years, and she's “doing great vocally,” she says from Las Vegas, where she lives, played two successful residencies (2012 and 2019) and also spent the past month rehearsing for her impending dash around the world. “I feel like my voice is back. It’s different, but it’s strong.”
Pre-singing warmups “to get the larynx in the right position” and warm downs are mandatory, and she’s prepared to tackle a set list of more than 20 songs, including a medley of some rare fan favorites.
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
“I’m not not going to do the classics, but I won’t be doing all of them. Since I did the Vegas residencies (of hits), I’ll give some of those a rest and am doing this medley of songs I might not have done on stage before and I know people love them,” she says.
Twain, who was bestowed with the Equal Play Award at the CMT Awards , continues to advocate for female artists and is resolute that she will continue to “straddle the line” between country and pop music and “carry on being myself.”
Women have made progress but not in country music
In the three decades since her self-titled debut, country music has regressed in bolstering female singers, Twain feels.
“They’re not as inclusive as they were,” she says. “It’s a mystery as to why. I would change it if I could, but all I can do is support the awareness. I’m glad I’m not a new artist starting out in country as a female. It’s a hard enough road as it is.”
Twain, who is providing a platform for Kelsea Ballerini , Lindsay Ell , Mickey Guyton and other female openers on her tour, points to a CMT study from 2020 that indicated more than 80% of country music listeners want to hear more songs from women. But she, like most, is baffled about the stagnant status.
“I don’t know why it’s happening, but I notice it and miss it myself as a listener,” she says.
Crossover controversy: 'I don’t know why it can work for one genre and not the other'
Twain’s affection for pop music is an anchor in her own music. “Waking Up From Dreaming” and “Giddy Up” from “Queen of Me” are recent examples, but the five-time Grammy winner earned her popularity with the savvy marriage of electronic drum stomps and glossy production with fiddles and banjo on everlasting hits “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!,” “I’m Gonna Getcha Good” and “Any Man of Mine.”
Following the CMT Awards, where rapper Megan Thee Stallion presented Twain with the Equal Play honor and Gwen Stefani and Alanis Morissette performed their classics (“Just a Girl” and “You Oughta Know,” respectively), some social media mouthpieces attacked the show for spotlighting pop, rather than country music.
But Twain audibly shrugs at the backlash .
“It’s not new to country to have other genres joining in on live TV. And then you have so many country artists who have gone the other way. Pop has accepted guest vocals or duets with country artists. I don’t know why it can work for one genre and not the other,” she says.
Shania Twain appreciates Taylor, Adele and Madonna
Twain is an obvious fan of pop queens , having seen Taylor Swift’s epic outing (“It was an awesome, beautiful show”) and giving Adele heart palpitations when the British songbird realized Twain attended one of her Vegas performances.
She also appreciates the fashion element present in Madonna ’s shows and is turning that inspiration into her own explorations on this tour.
“I’ve enjoyed being in the sewing room every day,” she says, and then clarifies with a laugh. “I’m not DOING the sewing – I have my girls for that – but I’m pinning and cutting and draping. They get scared when I say, ‘Gimme the scissors!’”
Twain is proud of the live show she’s created, which she describes as “chic and sleek” with graphics “telling a visual story.”
Twain sticks to a liquid diet
It is inarguable that the lovely Twain , 57, barely looks different from her breakthrough years of “The Woman in Me” and “Come On Over” nearly three decades ago. She attributes her slender form to a strict diet of mostly liquids, primarily protein shakes packed with raw greens, usually spinach or kale.
Twain says she normally eats one meal per day and doesn’t often snack, but if she needs a boost, it’s peanut butter or dark chocolate.
Also, “Never cheese on a show day because dairy creates phlegm,” she adds.
Twain presents plenty of fortitude – especially with a 76-date tour on the horizon – but she doesn’t adhere to any rigorous workout routines.
“Before tour rehearsals, I was riding horses and now I’m just running around a lot,” she says. “If I feel like I’m losing too much weight, I’ll eat some more. But I need to watch it for the wardrobe because (weight) goes on fast, especially now during menopause.”
Spoken like a woman who's found her voice.

Shania Twain, 58, uses this surprising product to keep her skin and hair hydrated
Bag balm is trending on tiktok right now, but shania twain was singing this simple salve's praises back in 1999..
Many people know their skin needs extra TLC during the cold, dry winter months when dryness and redness are common issues. But don't think you can slack off during the summer. Sunburn , chafing and, yes, even dry skin are still everyday occurrences when the weather is sweltering and you're spending a lot of time in saltwater or chlorinated pool water.
If ever there was a time to invest in a skincare savior, it's now. If you're a fan of the tried-and-true, how about a skincare savior that's been delivering results since 1899 (not a typo) and is currently finding a whole new legion of fans on TikTok ? Influencers like Alix Earle have talked about Bag Balm recently but — back to the tried-and-true — drop-dead gorgeous songstress and performer extraordinaire Shania Twain praised the product as her go-to back in the 90s , explaining that she uses it on her face and skin to help with dryness.
Bag Balm Skin Moisturizer with Lanolin
Believe it or not, Bag Balm was first invented in 1899. It was originally intended for use on animals, but over time it's become a skincare staple and can tackle all sorts of skincare woes.
Why is it a good deal? 💰
At less than $9 when it's full price, Bag Balm is an affordable addition to your beauty regimen. It's currently on sale for a few cents off, which ordinarily isn't anything to write home about. However, given that this product is trending big time on social media, there's a chance it will sell out, so you'd be smart to grab a tin while it's in stock and save some change in the process.
Why do I need this? 🤔
Okay, ready for a fun fact? Bag Balm was originally designed as a soothing salve for cow's udders. Yes, really — those are the bags they're talking about. Over time, farmers started using the balm for other animals; some used it on goat's hooves, others on their dog's noses and paws. Eventually, they started to notice their hands were feeling more supple after applying it to their animals. Humans became hooked and the rest is history!
These days, there are lots of reasons people crack open their tins of Bag Balm. The healing goop works especially well on dry, cracked skin whether that's on your hands , feet, elbows or even your lips. People also look to it as a diaper rash miracle cure — and soothes irritated skin on other parts of the body, too. Skincare obsessives say the product is ideal for slugging , and folks who have issues with chafing say this simple solution keeps things smooth and comfy. So yeah, there's not just one reason you need Bag Balm — there are many!
What reviewers say 💬
Before Bag Balm started trending on TikTok, it was a skincare staple for many who'd experienced its moisturizing goodness firsthand over the years. The salve has 4.7 out of 5 stars on Amazon, more than 16,000 of which are five star (and one of which dates back to 2019 , long before the product went viral on social media).
"I'm addicted to this!" one happy Amazon customer titled their review on the site. "This stuff is a game-changer for dry skin. I've struggled with chapped lips and dry patches for years, trying countless products with little success. But Bag Balm is the real deal. The lanolin in it works wonders, leaving my skin feeling hydrated and smooth. I apply it before bed and wake up with noticeably softer lips and skin."
If you need a quick fix now that sandals season is here, consider this comment from another satisfied shopper : "I've used all sorts of foot ointments to keep old heels from cracking and flaking. But then I remembered using Bag Balm — yes, on actual cows udders, years ago. And we also used it on our hands. It is the best solution for cracked heels I've found, without question."
Yet another reason to grab a tin of Bag Balm ahead of the hot and humid summer season? "[It] helps a lot in hot weather for chafing," according to another reviewer who called it a "very wonderful and soothing cream."
If you're sensitive to scents, then proceed with caution. One shopper who raved about Bag Balm said , "It works way better than petroleum jelly!" but added, "the only drawback is the smell—[it's] very medicinal!"
Another person agreed , saying the balm "doesn't smell that great." They also noted that "it's a little sticky to spread."
The texture is another common complaint, even among folks who say Bag Balm is effective. "This works, but it's just too greasy for me," one shopper wrote . "You put it on your hands and it never seems to dry so your hands are so greasy you can't touch anything. I used it twice and that was it."
Is there anything Bag Balm can't do? Talk about a multi-taking powerhouse! "This is like one of those products that can be used for so many different ailments," one person wrote in their review of the product on Amazon . "My dad would use this when I was younger for his feet, and ever since then it’s been a staple in my life. Right now I’m using it for right around the rim of my nostrils that keep cracking. I’ve also used it for my dry hands."
The reviews quoted above reflect the most recent versions at the time of publication.
If you have Amazon Prime , you’ll get free shipping, of course. Not yet a member? No problem. You can sign up for your free 30-day trial here . (And by the way, those without Prime still get free shipping on orders of $35 or more.)

Taylor Swift fans devastated after Austria Eras Tour shows canceled over alleged ISIS terror plot
Updated on: August 8, 2024 / 12:13 PM EDT / CBS/AP
Fans of Taylor Swift expressed their devastation at the cancellations of three sold-out Eras Tour shows in Austria after authorities foiled an alleged ISIS-linked terror plot .
The superstar's fans, known as Swifties, took to social media to express their sadness at missing out on the shows. Many spent thousands of dollars on travel, hotels and food in one of the most expensive European capitals.
Annmarie Timmins, a journalist who traveled from the United States to Vienna for Thursday's performance, said she and her husband were waiting for the subway after dinner when they heard the news.
"I can't even believe it," she said. "There was a girl with her mom who looked so sad — even more than me. I gave her one of my bracelets. I wanted to hug her."
One social media user named Sarah wrote she had been "waiting to see taylor in my home country since i was 9 years old, i'm now 25... to have all this taken away by some men being so fueled by hatred for no reason at all makes me so beyond angry i can't put it into words."
"I won't be able to see Taylor again with these resale prices so I am pretty devastated," another social media user named Caroline said . "This was supposed to be my 'you beat cancer' trip so losing it hurts."
The 19-year-old main suspect in the alleged plot was arrested in Ternitz, south of Vienna, and had pledged an oath of allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terror group, according to Franz Ruf, the public security director at Austria's Interior Ministry. Chemical substances and technical devices were found at the suspect's house.
A second person was arrested in the Austrian capital. Several Austrian media reported Thursday that additional suspects were being sought - something police did not officially confirm.
Ruf said authorities were aware of "preparatory actions" for a possible attack "and also that there is a focus by the 19-year-old perpetrator on the Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna," the Austria Press Agency reported.
The Austrian citizen is believed to have become radicalized on the internet. Ruf said the chemical substances were secured and were being evaluated. He didn't give more details, such as the suspects' names, in line with Austrian privacy law.
For Fredrikke Blekastad, a Swift fan from Norway, it was the second time she tried to attend a concert. The first time, it was canceled because of the pandemic.
"We had planned to get up really early, stand in line and get to the very front and see her," Blekastad told Norwegian broadcaster NRK, but "nothing will come of it either."
Other Norwegian fans, Jenny Moltubakk and Marie Hov Aanæs, told NRK about their disappointment.
"At first we were in shock when we saw the message, I didn't really believe it," Moltubakk told the broadcaster. "It's very strange when something you've been looking forward to for a whole year is suddenly canceled."
"I am very disappointed, to be honest, but I understand that safety is the most important thing," she said.
Aanæs quoted Swift's 2014 hit and said: "We must 'Shake It Off," telling NRK that "we are just very grateful that security was tightened enough for them to unravel this."
About 100 fans of all ages gathered on a Vienna street on Thursday to sing the Taylor Swift song "Long Live," which has the lyric "I'm not afraid." With some fans in tears, they exchanged friendship bracelets, and their singing could be heard from blocks away.
Some fans started looking for tickets to Taylor Swift's upcoming London performances, which are scheduled to take place between August 15th and August 20th.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan said Thursday that U.K. officials had learned lessons from a 2017 attack during an Ariana Grande concert at northwest England's Manchester Arena in which a suicide bomber killed 22 people.
"I'm sure Vienna has got its own reasons to cancel the Taylor Swift concerts. We're going to carry on, working closely with police (and) ensuring that the Taylor Swift concerts can take place in London safely," Khan told U.K. broadcaster Sky News on Thursday.
Haley Ott and Eleanor Watson contributed to this report.

Backstage with Yung Gravy at Wisconsin State Fair: His new album 'Serving Country,' his time in Madison and his friendship with Shania Twain
It was only a matter of time before an artist with "Gravy" in his name would take a detour down an old country road.
Rapper Yung Gravy (aka Matthew Hauri) dropped his new album, "Serving Country," Aug. 2 and headlined the Wisconsin State Fair's Main Stage the next day.
It was a homecoming of sorts for the tongue-in-cheek rapper. He's a University of Wisconsin-Madison alum who hails from our neighbor to the west, Minnesota.
Get daily updates on the Packers during the season.
"It feels great. It feels GREAT," Gravy told the Journal Sentinel as he lifted up a Spotted Cow, his drink of choice at the show. "I miss this place. The weather's great in the summer. I wish we were here longer."
Gravy and his crew were off to Sioux City, Iowa, early Sunday morning for another show later that night.
A newly-injured wrist didn't stop Gravy from grooving across the stage and throwing out goodies to an energetic audience (More on that later). And, a handful of attendees reciprocated ... by throwing their bras on stage.
We caught up with Gravy in a backstage trailer post-show to talk about his new album sprinkled with some of country music's biggest names, his time in Madison and more.
Why did Yung Gravy release a country-inspired album?
Essentially, Gravy was inspired by country music and his friends in that world, including queen of country pop Shania Twain , HARDY and Shaboozey, he said.
"Everything that I enjoyed about Nashville, the south, I kind of combined it and put it on this project," he said. "I wanted to try something new."
That "something new" was originally going to be a country-ish EP with three or four songs "because of Shania Twain." But, after diving in, the project turned into an entire 14-song album that took a year and a half to write.
"I actually did try pretty hard on the album and I learned a whole new genre and how to sing and all this stuff," Gravy said. "It's not country. It's not rap. It's Gravy with some seasoning."
"A lot of true stories" made the album, he said, like actually being arrested in Georgia, which he's openly spoken about before .
"I don't know what the definition of country is, but I rap about real life things that I do and I'm using instruments that are, you know, common to country music," Gravy said.
With a lot of references to his exes on the tracks, he wanted to clarify that some of that was "a bit dramatized." The cheating that happened to him was back when he was in 10th grade.
"Keep this as evidence, that my more-recent exes — whether they pissed me off or not — they didn't cheat on me."
Yung Gravy on working with Shania Twain, Zac Brown
One of the big-time country artists featured on "Serving Country" is Twain , a five-time Grammy Award winner and the legend behind hits like "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" and "That Don't Impress Me Much."
Her song with Gravy is an ode to the hard seltzer people love or love to hate on: White Claw.
After "randomly" meeting Twain — and thinking she was a good looking "older than myself" woman — the unlikely duo would go on to make "a lot of music" together.
Gravy said he also bonded with Twain's husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, who's become like "a father figure" to him.
"It's very actually wholesome," Gravy said.
The family even invited Gravy to Geneva, Switzerland, around Christmastime to go skiing, Gravy shared, but he couldn't make it due to a family obligation.
When Gravy made an Instagram post about his new album earlier this week, Twain gushed with support:
"The gravy to my fries and cheese curds 😜😂 Congratulations on a fantastic album @yunggravy !! 😘" her comment read.
Gravy's buddy is the one who connected him with Zac Brown of the Zac Brown Band because he thought the two of them would get along. He was right.
Gravy said Brown invited him over for a sleepover at his place They wrote four or five songs, two of which made the album: "My Garage (with Zac Brown)" and "Love You For Leavin' (with Zac Brown). Plus, Gravy's song " Clementine " samples the Zac Brown Band's wildly popular "Chicken Fried."
Gravy's album also has songs with Brantley Gilbert, Juicy J and Dylan Marlowe.
Is Yung Gravy permanently going country?
While Gravy's had "so much fun" putting "Serving Country" together, he said it's simply an "excursion."
He compared it to the "detour" he took as Baby Gravy with bbno$ , which ended up becoming "one of the biggest parts" of his career thus far.
"You never know what's going to happen with something new you try," he said. "And, we'll see. But, I guarantee there's at least going to be a pretty big deluxe version."
Yung Gravy's Wisconsin State Fair audience was the first to hear one of his new songs live
While Gravy's been previewing some of his new country-flaired songs at shows, his Wisconsin State Fair audience was the first that got to hear him play "Cop a Truck" live.
"It felt really good when they were excited, felt dumb when I forgot the words, but overall it was great because the love was there," Gravy said. "Honestly, I had a fear about some of the singles that maybe they didn't love 'em. But, when we played 'Clementine' and 'Lone Ranger' — and a number of other songs that aren't even singles — the love was crazy."
It was. One bra hit the stage. Then, another. And, another. Gravy's become known for donating them to women's shelters.
And, the love was mutual.
Before Gravy hit the stage, Tiiiiiiiiiip — the DJ for Gravy — threw out Zebra Cakes. Once the show got going, Gravy and his crew threw out dozens of water bottles to the crowd. At another point, he signed lunchables and launched those out, too. Oh, and also cereal.
This was all done with a bum wrist, which posed as an inconvenience to him at times. He sat on his wrist weird for hours during his flight in, he said, and could barely move it. A makeshift splint — made out of food tongs and gauze — supported it during the show.
During said show, Gravy and Tiiiiiiiiiip took the audience down a winding road of Gravy's greatest hits — including "Oops!" "Betty (Get Money)" and "Gravy Train" — and many of his new tracks. And, along the way, Gravy had lots of chats — some funny, some heartfelt, some about Wisconsin — with his fans.
And yes, he pulled his signature move: Tossing out red roses at the end. One lucky lady walked away with two souvenirs: The final rose — she jumped around in circles after snagging it — and a cereal box.
After all these gestures, Gravy's audience was probably left wondering: What are we?
Yung Gravy's favorite things about Wisconsin and his former hangouts
"The people, the lakes, the food — and I'm not going to say the cheese 'cause that's obvious," he said. "The attitude of people."
During his first week in Madison, Gravy recalled opening up a box of Captain Crunch at a party at 7 a.m. and "some dude" pouring a full beer into it as a substitute for milk.
He questioned it — and the guy got mad at him, he said.
"He was like, 'What do you mean milk?'" Gravy recalled. "I just love the energy. Love Wisconsin."
He could "go on for days" about his favorite Madtown hangouts, including Nitty Gritty, The Double U, State Street Brats, Mondays and the "beautiful" Ivory Room Piano Bar.
"There are a lot of great bars there," he said.
When Gravy spent a summer in Brew City, Oakland Gyros and Bradford Beach were two of his go-tos.
He made sure to give a shout-out to "Andy," a gentleman who used to throw parties all the time in "that little rich neighborhood" up from the beach.
Yung Gravy maps out where he made music in Madison
While a student at UW-Madison, Gravy started rapping. He wrote his first two tapes when he lived on Gerry Court in the "sophomore slums," he said.
He uploaded his first Yung Gravy EP to SoundCloud in 2016, according to a previous Journal Sentinel report . Most of his recording in those days was done at a house by Mifflin Street, he said.
When Gravy was living at the Palisade Apartments, he started "popping off."
Before graduating in December 2017, he signed a deal with Universal Music Group's Republic Records (the label behind Taylor Swift, the Weeknd and other A-listers).
"(Wisconsin is) a big part of my life," Gravy said. "I wouldn't be the same without it."
Where you can listen to Yung Gravy's 'Serving Country'
You can find "Serving Country" pretty much wherever you listen to music, including Spotify , Apple Music and YouTube .
When Yung Gravy will be bringing his 'Grits & Gravy' tour back to Wisconsin, where else to catch it
When Gravy travels, he said, he's very proud to rep the Great Lake States, including Wisconsin and Minnesota.
"The Great Lake States are the best and I'll never change my mind about that," he said.
Gravy will return to Wisconsin on Sept. 5 to play the La Crosse Center. Other Midwest shows will include the Radius Chicago on Oct. 10, The Fillmore Detroit on Oct. 12 and The Armory in Minneapolis on Nov. 29.
He'll also be taking the tour overseas to Europe, including stops in Germany, Poland and France.

Shania Twain Hopes to ‘Connect’ With Celine Dion Over Their Illnesses: ‘It’s Gotta Be So Difficult’
Shania Twain wants to be there for Celine Dion as she battles with stiff-person syndrome.
“I hope to be able to connect with her at some point,” Twain, 57, said in an interview with Billboard published on Thursday, August 10. “I think it’s gotta be so difficult, and I know — only speaking from my experience — how horrifying it is to think that something is preventing you from singing, or interfering with that joy in your life. So I just pray that she is able to overcome it and she will be up there [on stage] singing for us all again.”
Twain confessed she was “such a fan” of Dion, 55. “She’s a one-of-a-kind, extraordinary vocalist and entertainer,” she gushed.
In December 2022, Dion revealed she was suffering from the “rare condition” of stiff-person syndrome . According to Mayo Clinic , “stiff-man syndrome” — also known as “Moersch-Woltman syndrome” — “is a rare disorder of motor function characterized by involuntary stiffness of axial muscles and superimposed painful muscle spasms, which are often induced by startle or emotional stimuli.”

Five months later, Dion canceled her Courage World Tour and all tickets purchased would be refunded.
“It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again,” she penned via Instagram in May. “I want you all to know, I’m not giving up … and I can’t wait to see you again!”
While Twain doesn’t suffer from the same ailment as Dion, she sympathizes with the “My Heart Will Go On” singer. Twain has battled Lyme disease throughout the course of her career after getting bit by a tick while horseback riding in 2003.
Lyme disease is “an illness caused by borrelia bacteria. Humans usually get Lyme disease from the bite of a tick carrying the bacteria,” per the Mayo Clinic .

“My symptoms were quite scary because before I was diagnosed, I was on stage very dizzy,” she recalled in her 2022 Netflix documentary, Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl . “I was losing my balance. I was afraid I was gonna fall off the stage, and the stage is quite high.”

In addition to the dizzy spells she faced, Twain confessed the disease also altered her singing voice . In 2011, she had open-throat surgery to fix the nerve damage in her vocal cords.
“My voice was never the same again,” she said in the documentary. “I didn’t understand it.”
