Airports near Fort Lauderdale cruise port

Cruisers sailing out of Port Everglades have two major South Florida airport options when booking flights: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Miami International Airport (MIA).

Most travelers prefer to fly into FLL because it's so close to Port Everglades, making transfers much quicker and cheaper than from MIA. In fact, it's possible to book a same-day flight and get to your ship within an hour of your flight landing.

MIA offers more daily flights on the whole. If you're flying in from overseas, MIA also offers more international flight options. Miami's airport might also be more appealing if you're a member of an airline loyalty program or a cardholder who wants to prioritize lounge access.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is the nearest airport to Port Everglades. Only 1.8 miles away, it's the closest airport to a cruise port in the country. Major carriers, including Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue, Silver Airways, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines and United Airlines, all fly into Fort Lauderdale's airport.

If you need to kill time between the cruise disembarkation and your flight time, the airport offers a United Club Lounge and a Delta Sky Club for passengers of those airlines, as well as an Escape Lounge in Terminal 3 that's open to all travelers in that terminal for a fee. FLL does not have a Priority Pass lounge , but Priority Pass members with restaurant perks get a dining discount at the Kafe Kalik restaurant in Terminal 4. (This perk might not be available to travelers with a membership through certain credit cards.)

Miami International Airport

About 40 minutes away from the Fort Lauderdale cruise port (often longer during rush hour), Miami International Airport (MIA) serves ​​most major airlines, including Alaska, American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country Airlines and United.

At MIA, lounge options include an American Airlines Admirals Club and a Flagship Lounge, a Delta Sky Club, an Amex Centurion Lounge for holders of The Platinum Card® from American Express and a Priority Pass lounge called Club America. To get access, you can buy a Priority Pass membership or hold a credit card that offers a membership, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve® or the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card .

How to get to the Fort Lauderdale cruise port

Cruise line transfers

Cruise lines often offer transfers from the airport to the cruise port, but they're usually only available on the day the ship departs. A cruise line transfer wouldn't be an option for guests flying in earlier.

Cruise line transfers are priced per person, so if you're traveling with a group from nearby Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, it would be cheaper to split a taxi or an Uber or Lyft instead.

Transportation from FLL to Port Everglades through Disney Cruise Line, for example, is $45 per person each way. The cruise line doesn't offer transfers from MIA.

Hotel shuttles

Several hotels in the area offer shuttles to the airport for $8 to $15 per person, with select hotels offering complimentary shuttle service to the cruise port.

Independent airport shuttles

Private shuttle companies like Go Airport and South Florida Shuttles offer shared rides from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Port Everglades from $15 to $27 per person. Shared shuttles to the Fort Lauderdale port are not typically available from Miami International Airport.

Independent van and car services

Companies like South Florida Elite Shuttle, Fort Lauderdale Airport Shuttle and Go Airport also offer private cars or vans to Port Everglades from both FLL and MIA.

Transportation from nearby FLL ranges from $65 for three people and three pieces of luggage to $105 for up to 10 passengers and 10 bags with Go Airport. Pricing starts upward of $120 from MIA.

Taxis and ride-hailing services

The average taxi fare from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to Port Everglades is $20. To take a cab from the airport, exit your terminal on the arrivals level and follow the wayfinding signs to the nearest taxi stand.

Ride-hailing services from FLL, like Uber and Lyft, are typically slightly cheaper, often starting as low as $10. This rate can spike during periods of surge pricing, such as when everyone is disembarking the ship and calling for cars at the same time.

If you're heading to the port from Miami International Airport, the taxi fare to Port Everglades can run upward of $100 one-way. Exit baggage claim to find a taxi on the ground arrivals level.

Uber, on the other hand, can start around $55 for UberX, $70 for Comfort and $100 for Uber XL if you need to fit up to six people and more luggage. Pickup zones for ride-hailing services are stationed outside doors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 11, 15, 20 and 23 on the ground arrivals level. Stand and wait at the middle median.

Public transportation from nearby airports

From FLL : Broward County's Route 1 bus service from the Fort Lauderdale airport stops at the Northport section of Port Everglades on SE 17th Street. The bus stop is located at the Rental Car Center, Stop G, at the airport.

From MIA : You can take the Tri-Rail train from Miami International Airport to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport station, with free shuttle buses to the airport terminals. Continue on the bus route above to Port Everglades.

Port Everglades cruise port parking

On-site parking

Port Everglades has two on-site parking garages and three parking lots providing more than 5,500 parking spaces for cruisegoers.

Heron Parking Garage serves Terminals 2 and 4 (with an air-conditioned elevated passenger bridge on the fifth floor that leads directly to Terminal 2), while Palm Parking Garage serves Terminals 19, 21, 25, 26 and 29 with shuttle service to Terminal 29.

Additionally, Lot A serves Terminals 19 and 26, Lot B serves Terminals 18 and 19, and Lot C serves Terminal 18.

Port Everglades' on-site parking costs $20 per day or $25 for oversized vehicles. If you're parking for less than a day, it's $4 for the first hour and $8 for up to five hours.

Park-and-cruise

Beyond the port, several private parking lots provide shuttle service to the cruise port. One of the cheapest park-and-cruise lot options is Park by the Ports, which offers parking rates starting at $9.99 per day. The shuttle is free for the first four passengers and is only about a 10-minute ride to the port.

Park 'N Go is another reliable option only a few blocks from the port. It has 24-hour staff and free on-demand shuttles to the port that will meet you at your vehicle. This lot starts as low as $10 per day if you reserve online in advance.

With both of these options, reservations are the only way to guarantee yourself a parking spot, but they do accept drive-ups as well.

Tropical Airport Parking is a unique option that lets you park your car at hotels with unused parking spaces. Their prices start at only $7.45 per day, and you must reserve a space in advance. The shuttle to the cruise port costs extra depending on which hotel you choose, so compare the total price to other options when you're deciding where to park.

Various hotels also offer park-and-cruise arrangements where you can keep your car at the hotel for the duration of your cruise if you stay for at least a night. SpringHill Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port currently offers a hotel package that includes a complimentary round-trip airport shuttle and up to 14 nights of parking for one vehicle (the shuttle to the cruise port is extra).

In other cases, the price for parking is separate from the overnight hotel rate but is usually much cheaper than parking at the cruise port and makes the most sense if you already were planning a precruise hotel stay. Hampton Inn Ft. Lauderdale Airport North Cruise Port and Courtyard Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port, for example, offer post-checkout parking for hotel guests for only $5 to $10 per night and a paid shuttle to the cruise port.

Hotels near Port Everglades cruise port

Hilton hotels

Some of the closest hotels to Port Everglades are located along the 17th Street Causeway, such as the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina and the Embassy Suites by Hilton Fort Lauderdale 17th Street.

The all-suite Embassy Suites hotel (starting around 42,000 Hilton Honors points per night) is a great family-friendly choice because of its spacious rooms and free made-to-order breakfast. It also offers a complimentary evening reception with snacks and drinks.

For more of a resort experience without sacrificing proximity to the port, the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina (starting around 31,000 points per night) covers transportation to the beach and beach towels in its resort fee. It also offers a rooftop restaurant with views of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, a heated outdoor pool and pool bar, and a lobby lounge and coffee shop. A third-party company offers transportation between the hotel and Port Everglades for $11 per person.

The family-friendly hotel provides free continental breakfast, an outdoor pool, a gym and a shuttle to the cruise port for $9 per person.

Non-points hotels

If you're looking for an affordable, no-frills place to stay overnight before your cruise, Red Carpet Inn Airport/Cruise Port Fort Lauderdale is a budget-friendly hotel about 10 minutes from Port Everglades that offers free shuttles to and from the airport and cruise port.

The free shuttle runs to the airport from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and you can schedule your shuttle to Port Everglades at check-in. The hotel also offers complimentary parking during your stay and a park-and-cruise rate of $10 per day of your cruise.

Another popular value hotel with a free airport and cruise shuttle, Rodeway Inn & Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port also offers complimentary breakfast with your stay.

For an extended beach escape, book a stay at the secluded Pelican Grand Beach Resort, the only resort that's located directly on the beach in Fort Lauderdale. This luxury boutique hotel on the quieter end of the beach offers relaxing amenities like an oceanfront zero-entry pool, a lazy river and its own private stretch of shoreline.

Restaurants near Port Everglades cruise port

Fort Lauderdale's most popular dining destination, Las Olas Boulevard, is known as downtown's main drag of sidewalk cafes, bars, shops and art galleries. You'll find everything from seafood and steakhouses to tacos, burgers and American bar food. A personal favorite is Louie Bossi's Ristorante, a high-energy Italian spot for handcrafted pastas, Neapolitan pizzas and an impromptu round of bocce in the outdoor courtyard.

For the local experience, you might enjoy breakfast on the beach at Casablanca Cafe, a restaurant and piano bar in a restored historic home. If it's lunch or dinnertime before the sun goes down, grab a seafood-centric meal at a waterfront institution along the Intracoastal Waterway, like Coconuts or Boatyard, or head to Boathouse at the Riverside for a view of the New River.

Things to do in Fort Lauderdale before or after your cruise

Visit the beach

Most visitors to Fort Lauderdale come for the beach, and Fort Lauderdale Beach along state Road A1A is sure to impress — whether you want to soak up some sun from the sand, take a splash in the Atlantic or drive along state Road A1A for views of the ocean right from your car.

About 15 minutes south, you can explore Hollywood Beach, which feels like a small beach town with a 2.5-mile stretch of pedestrian promenade called the Broadwalk. Watch the joggers and cyclists go by, or join in yourself.

Ride the Water Taxi

With an extensive system of canals and waterways, Fort Lauderdale is known as the Venice of America for good reason. The Water Taxi will take you along the Intracoastal Waterway on a route behind some of Fort Lauderdale's most stunning waterfront mansions.

It stops along the way at popular attractions, hotels and waterfront restaurants. Hop off at 15th Street Fisheries or Shooters Waterfront for a classic South Florida seafood meal.

If you want to continue gambling after your cruise, Broward County is home to a few major casinos that attract tourists and locals alike.

About 15 minutes west of the port in Hollywood, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and its adjacent Guitar Hotel feel like two Las Vegas resorts in the middle of South Florida, with a casino connecting the two properties. Across the two music-themed luxury hotels, guests can enjoy the spa, various shops, a lagoon-style pool with cabanas, more than a dozen restaurants and multiple nightclubs, bars and lounges. The Hard Rock Live entertainment venue often hosts concerts and other acts like comedians.

Stay for the nighttime light show from the Guitar Hotel that's choreographed to different songs. Six beams of light project 20,000 feet into the sky, representing the strings of a guitar neck. The Guitar Hotel's grand entrance also features a 35-foot-tall central waterfall called The Oculus with another musical light show that runs every 20 minutes.

Farther south in Hallandale Beach (about 30 minutes from Port Everglades), Gulfstream Park is a horse racing track and casino that's home to equestrian events like the Pegasus World Cup. The complex also has an array of shops, restaurants and entertainment like nightclubs and a karaoke venue.

Shopping near Fort Lauderdale cruise port

If you're looking for last-minute cruise necessities like sunscreen or snacks, visit a pharmacy like Walgreens or CVS near Port Everglades on U.S. Highway 1 or 17th Street Causeway. The Harbor Shops is also a convenient nearby shopping plaza with a Publix Supermarket and a Total Wine if you want to grab a bottle of wine to bring on board.

Las Olas Boulevard is an outdoor shopping and entertainment district with boutique shops, art galleries, sidewalk cafes and bars. It stretches from downtown Fort Lauderdale to the beach on state Road A1A, and it's the perfect place to stroll for the afternoon, shop after you disembark or wander the evening before you board.

For a more traditional shopping mall experience, head to The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale, an upscale shopping center with more than 100 retail shops, including Macy's, Michael Kors, H&M and Free People.

Farther away but a worthwhile destination for bargain hunters, Sawgrass Mills is one of the world's largest outlet malls. The sprawling shopping center with more than 400 shops and restaurants is about a 20- to 30-minute drive from the cruise port.

Complete Guide to Cruising from Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

When it comes to departure points for a cruise, it’s hard to beat Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.

With nearly 4 million cruise passengers each year, Port Everglades comes as one of the busiest ports in Florida (along with Miami and Port Canaveral ), which also means its one of the busiest cruise ports in the world.

Spread out a bit more than the Port of Miami, it can be a bit confusing to navigate the port if you’re a first-timer or if you simply haven’t sailed from there in a while. Not to worry, our guide below will give you all the details you need to know to sail from the South Florida port.

Port Everglades Location

When it comes to convenience, it’s hard to beat the location of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. Sitting right at the edge of the Atlantic, ships can leave from the port and be in the open water in a matter of minutes.

Meanwhile, the port is also extremely close to the Fort Lauderdale airport. The airport is just three miles away, or about 10 minutes. In other words you can fly in and be at your ship within an hour — even accounting for getting off the plane and getting to your ride.

Of course, while many people fly in and head directly to the cruise port, the entire South Florida region is a tourist destination. Therefore, you may be coming to the port from somewhere other than the airport. In that case, here’s the distance and mileage from several points of interest in the area:

Port Everglades Cruise Terminals

The cruise terminals at Port Everglades are spread out compared to many other ports like Miami. There are two distinct regions — Northport and Midport. Northport is comprised of Terminals 2, & 4. Midport consists of Terminals 18, 19, 21, 25, 26, & 29. Given the higher number of terminals, most people cruise from Midport facilities.

Terminal 2 Renovated a few years ago, Terminal 2 is home to Princess Cruises. One of the unique features of the terminal is that it’s setup for Princess’ Ocean Medallion service, which is a wearable device that can replace your room keycard. The terminal offers 85,000 square feet of space, including about 21,000 square feet for passenger waiting, so you should never feel cramped.

Terminal 4 Sailing Disney Cruise Line? Then you’ll sail from Terminal 4, the last cruise terminal in the Northport area and right next to the Convention Center. This terminal was recently redone to honor Disney and features a “Finding Nemo” motif on your way to the ship.

Terminal 18 Sailing on Royal Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale? There’s a good chance you’ll sail from Terminal 18. It’s the main Royal Caribbean terminal and serves some of the largest ships in the cruise line’s fleet (Oasis-class vessels). As with all the terminals, there are parking options right nearby.

Terminal 19 Sitting on the south edge of Midport, Terminal 19 offers 1,300′ of berth and a cruise terminal that’s nearly 100,000 square feet. There’s tons of parking within walking distance. Given the location right next to Terminal 18, there’s also a good chance that one of the world’s largest cruise ships will be right next to your ship on cruise day.

Terminal 21 In the “U”-shaped cove in the port with Terminals 18 & 19, Terminal 21 is on the eastern edge of the port. Like other terminals in the port, it offers a huge amount of space, including nearly 1,500′ of berth space and 50 check-in stations to make things as quick as possible to get on the ship.

Terminal 25 There’s been a recent trend toward cruise lines building spectacular modern terminals and Terminal 25 fits the bill for Celebrity Cruises. As home to Celebrity — and the fleet’s most modern ships — Port Everglades has a sleek terminal to go along with those vessels.

Terminal 26 Toward the southern end of the port, Terminal 26 is perhaps the easiest terminal to get to. It’s right along the entrance road at the port. Parking is available at the Midport Garage (also known as the Palm Garage), right across the street from the cruise terminal.

Terminal 29 Terminal 29 is a bit out of the way from the other terminals at the southernmost end of the cruise port facilities. It’s an older terminal, but still perfect for getting on the ship. One issue is that the official port parking garage is a bit of a trek from here. You’ll want to park and then take the free shuttle to the terminal.

Hotels Near the Port

Once again, the location of Port Everglades offers a big advantage for cruise passengers. Sitting right near the airport and near A1A that runs along the beach, there are a number of hotels that are within just minutes of the port.

Even better news is that given the popularity of cruising from Fort Lauderdale, the hotels in the area cater to cruise passengers. A number of them offer up perks like cruise parking or shuttles to the cruise port.

As a rule of thumb, the hotels that are away from the beach typically have better prices and more benefits to attract cruisers. Those mega hotels right on the water usually make you pay dearly to park and often have resort fees as well. Look for hotels near the airport or those within walking distance of the port for the best deals.

Getting to Port Everglades (Transportation)

Given the location of the port, getting there is a breeze, especially if you are flying in. But even if you live in the area and plan on driving, you can still easily get to your ship and park at the port. We’ve covered all the ways to get to your cruise with our port transportation article . Below we have the highlights on the most popular ways to get to Port Everglades.

Driving to Port Everglades If you are already in South Florida, then you can simply drive to the port. One thing that you’ll need to keep in mind is if you are sailing from Northport (Terminals 2 or 4) or from Midport (Terminals 18-29). Depending on your cruise terminal, you want to use a different entrance to get into the port so that you can get to your ship faster.

The good news is that parking at any cruise terminal in Port Everglades is convenient and easy. Each terminal has a nearby parking area, typically a garage (Palm or Heron). It costs $20 per day to park at Port Everglades. 

Uber/Lyft Flying into Fort Lauderdale or Miami? Or maybe you just don’t want to deal with driving? Uber and Lyft are convenient options to the port. They offer service in both Miami or Fort Lauderdale (including airports), so no matter where you are, you can get a ride. We’ve estimated the cost of a ride from certain points of interest below. Taxi Are you more “old school”? Cabs are abundant all throughout South Florida to get you to Port Everglades. In general the estimated fares are higher than you’ll find with Uber and Lyft. Hotel Shuttles If you plan to stay in a hotel the night before your cruise, then look for a hotel that offers a shuttle to the cruise port. It’s an extra perk that’s great to have on cruise day. While some hotels offer rides for free, usually you will pay a nominal fee for the service. Even with a charge, it’s an affordable way to the port. Parking For Your Cruise

If you’re driving into Fort Lauderdale to cruise, then you’re going to need a spot to park your car. Fortunately there’s an entire industry surrounding cruise parking in Fort Lauderdale. We have all your options on our Port Everglades cruise parking page here . Below, we have general information regarding your parking options.

Parking at the Port By far the easiest and most convenient spot to park is at the port. Port Everglades has multiple parking facilities near the cruise terminals, giving you the ability to park right at your cruise ship. That means you can drive and arrive when you want, and then head home the second you get off the ship. Given the number of parking spots at the port, you don’t have to reserve a spot ahead of time. Simply show up on cruise day and park.

Parking at the port runs $20 per day for most vehicles. Have an oversized vehicle that doesn’t fit in a normal parking space? In that case, you’ll pay $25 per day. Parking at Port Everglades is comparable to other ports, though the costs can still add up. 

If you are a disabled cruise passenger, then you might be able to park for free at the port. Florida laws allow for free parking if you meet requirements such as having a Florida Toll Exemption Permit, car modifications such as hand or foot controls, ramps, and lifts, and/or a Florida Disabled Veteran license plate. If you think you might meet one of these requirements, contact the port at 954-468-3680 to learn how to park for free. It’s a great way to save some cash.

Independent Parking Lots As is the case in most port cities, there are independent lots near the cruise port. While these lots aren’t as convenient as parking right at the ship, they have the advantage of being cheaper. Plus, the lots will have shuttles to take you right to the ship. So if you don’t need to park right at the ship and don’t mind an extra 10 minutes to get to the ship, you can save significantly. Rates for independent lots run around $8 to $12 per day.

Hotels with Cruise Parking As we mentioned earlier, there is no shortage of hotels in the area offering perks to cruise passengers. Hotels range from those that are literally walking distance to the port to the popular “Marina Mile” (which is a straight shot to the terminals) to spots around the airport. No matter where you want to stay and how much you want to spend, you’ll find a hotel that caters to cruise passengers by offering cruise parking.

Sometimes this parking is included with a one night’s stay, other times you will need to book a parking package. Dropping Off/Picking Up Passengers

If you’re a cruise passenger, it doesn’t get any easier than letting someone else worry about the driving and simply being dropped off or picked up after your cruise.

Unlike some other ports, Port Everglades has security checkpoints where those 18 years or older need to show identification/passenger ticket to get into the terminal area . Just be ready as you approach the checkpoint at the entrance to the port to make the line go faster.

Once inside the port, you’ll want to follow the signage to the appropriate cruise terminal for the ship. Keep in mind that there are a number of twists and turns in order to get around with so many terminals in a relatively small space. Meanwhile, if there are lots of ships in port, navigating can be stressful. It might be helpful to have one person navigate so the driver can focus on the road.

As you approach the port, you’ll see the signs for the passenger drop-off and pick-up areas. Pull up to the appropriate spot and you’ll be able to unload and load passengers.

Security/Check In

Before you can get onto the ship, you have to check in and pass through security. The good news is that it’s no big deal and in most cases can be done in 15 minutes or less.

When to Arrive These days most cruise lines have switched over to having staggered check in. This type of check-in gives you a 30-minute assigned window on when to arrive. While the ship might board from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., you might be asked to arrive between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Staggered check-in reduces crowds right at the start time of boarding, making the whole process smoother.

If you are assigned a check-in time, then you should aim to arrive at that time. Don’t arrive early.

The second method is the classic boarding window, though it seems fewer ships use this method now. The ship will board between hours such as 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Passengers can arrive at any time in this window.

If this is how your ship boards, we suggest actually arriving later in the boarding window. There is often a rush of passengers right at the start of boarding — and the ship may not be ready to accept passengers. In other words, if you don’t want the possibility of having to wait around to board, then arrive later in the window.

Security Cruise security is somewhat similar to that of an airport, but much less stressful. As you arrive, you’ll show your ID and boarding documents to make sure you are supposed to be on the ship. Then, you’ll put your bag through an x-ray machine as you walk through a metal detector. There’s no need to remove things like liquids from your luggage, nor do you need to remove shoes, belts, or laptops.

From there, you’ll head to check-in.

Checking In Most cruise lines have moved to allow passengers to check in online ahead of time. If you choose to do this, you’ll board with your boarding documents but be able to skip the traditional check-in lines. Your cabin keycard will be in a sealed envelope at your cabin door.

If you check-in the traditional way (or have some loose ends to tie up before boarding), you’ll stand in line and wait for an open check-in agent. Many terminals at Port Everglades have dozens of check-in stations, so the line moves quickly. Here you will assign a payment method for your onboard account, get your room key, and then board the ship. Your time with an agent will only take a few minutes, and then you’ll be ready to start your cruise.

Disembarkation

One of oddest things you’ll notice on your cruise is that everyone can’t wait to board the ship when you depart, but are just as eager to get off the ship when it gets back home.

When you debark, you can have the option of setting large bags outside the cabin the night before. The crew will pick them up and deliver the bags to the terminal for you. In this case you’ll need to wait until your debarkation group is told it’s time to get off the ship.

Instead, many people choose to carry all of their bags with them. The advantage is that this “self debarkation” group is the first group allowed off the ship. But since so many people choose the option, it can still be some time before you get off the vessel.

Once off the ship, you will be steered to the arrival hall where you will pick up your luggage (if you have it) and then head through customs to be admitted back into the United States. Port Everglades has both Global Entry and the Mobile Passport app , which can help you get through the lines more quickly.

Once through the CBP checkpoint, you’ll exit the terminal and find your transportation back to your hotel, airport, or home.

Things to Do Near the Port

As we mentioned, South Florida and Fort Lauderdale are known for their tourism. That means there’s quite a lot to do within a short drive of the cruise terminals. Here is just a sample of things going on in the area…

Seminole Hard Rock Casino Gambling on a cruise ship is always a popular pastime, but you don’t have to wait until you get to the ship in order to try your luck. The Seminole Hard Rock Casino is about 20 minutes from Port Everglades and is the largest and nicest casino in the area. Try your hand at any number of games in the massive gaming area. Also, there’s no missing the casino. They’ve recently built a massive guitar-shaped hotel as an addition that can be seen for miles around.

Las Olas Beach Fort Lauderdale’s beaches are some of the nicest in the world, and the heart of the beach is Las Olas. Just north of the port, it’s a large, wide white-sand beach with lots of facilities and lined with restaurants and shops. Even if you don’t go to the beach, it’s a good idea to at least take a stroll on the waterfront to get a feel for what Fort Lauderdale has to offer.

Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi This area is unique due to the number of canals and waterways that run inland. In fact, there are so many that water taxis run circuits around Fort Lauderdale . It’s more than just a unique way to get around the city. For $40 a person, you can hop on and hop off as you please as you get a chance to see huge houses, even larger yachts, and learn about the area. It’s a great way to get a tour of the city in a memorable way.

What Time Should I Schedule My Flight Home? Fort Lauderdale has a big advantage over many other cruise ports in that it’s literally just a few minutes from the airport. If you are flying from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, you can get from the cruise port to the airport in 10 minutes. If you are flying from Miami, however, expect the ride to take at least 45 minutes, and upwards of an hour in heavy traffic.

Cruise ships arrive back to port early in the morning (6-7 a.m.) and debarking can take 2-3 hours from then. That gets you off the ship anywhere from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in most cases. For that reason, we’d suggest the earliest to schedule your flight is 11 a.m. if flying from Fort Lauderdale. Flying out at noon gives you even more breathing room. We will say that we’ve caught flights considerably earlier, however.

If departing Miami, then we’d suggest noon at the very earliest. Flying out after 1 p.m. would be ideal to give you enough time to get off the ship, get to the airport, and get through security.

Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale's cruise port) is a major seaport in Broward County (Florida USA), and currently ranked the world's 3rd-largest cruise port - after PortMiami and Port Canaveral . Port Everglades (locode USFLL) is one of Florida's largest economic hubs and South Florida's gateway for both international cargo- and passenger/cruise shipping traffic.

Annually, the port handles 4000+ vessels (passenger, bulk cargo, container ships), cargo tonnage 25,3+ million tons, TEU-containers 7,2+ million, passengers 3,86+ million. Port's annual revenue is ~USD 170 million, Net income ~USD 75 million, business activities ~USD 30 billion.

Port Everglades is one of the USA's main cruise departure (turnaround) ports for Caribbean roundtrip itineraries. Fort Lauderdale is approx 50 km (30 mi) from Miami .

Since 2011, the cruiseferry company BALEARIA Caribbean provides daily crossings from Fort Lauderdale to Freeport (Grand Bahama Island) . In August 2019, the company started a fast-ferry service from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini Island Bahamas (crossing time ~2 hours). The fat-ferry (catamaran ship) has passenger capacity 650, max speed 38 knots (70 kph / 44 mph) and offers 5 weekly crossings with departures on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Port Everglades' cruise ship tourism-related operations have a total annual economic value of nearly USD 30 billion. It is accounted for approx 160,000 jobs (port-related businesses), including ~11,400 jobs in companies directly providing services to the port. On average, each cruise vessel generates approx USD 2,2 million in revenue for local businesses.

Port Everglades is South Florida's main seaport for importing, storage and distribution of petroleum products and alternative fuels. The waterway's depth is 43 ft (13 m), ranking it USA's deepest seaport on the Atlantic coast (south of Norfolk VA , not on the US East Coast in general).

Cruise port's statistics for season 2014-2015 showed that:

• approx 50% of all cruise ship passengers/pax were East Coast USA residents. Most international passengers were flying from Toronto, Canada .
• 62% of all cruise tourists stayed in South Florida hotels overnight (prior departure), 21% stayed overnight after the voyage, 46% stayed in Fort Lauderdale hotels.
• 51% of all pax had Fort Lauderdale hotel booked (prior departure).

• 31% of all pax booked cruises online (through port's website).
• 63% of all pax flying in Ft Lauderdale booked cruises separately from airfare.
• The average age of once-a-year cruising tourists was 55-64 yo, twice-a-year ones were 65-74 yo.

In 2014, the seaport generated USD 28+ billion and was accounted for over 224,000 jobs throughout Florida. In 2015, the cruise port was ranked world's 3rd busiest for handling 877 ship calls and over 3,4 million passengers. In 2016, Port Everglades handled almost 3,9 million passengers served by 9 different cruise lines with a total of 39 different vessels.

Among cruise port's new technology implementations are new CBP programs (US Customs and Border Protection), including the "Global Entry" program (allowing expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the USA) and MPC (Mobile Passport Control, authorized smartphone app to expedite travelers entry process into the USA). Port Everglades is the ever first seaport offering this app. Travelers can use the MPC app to provide biographic info prior to speaking with Customs officers. Since summer 2015, the port gives preferential processing to cruise passengers with Global Entry cards.

In 2016, the cruise port completed pilot testing of APC kiosks (abbrev "Automated Passport Control") in 2 terminals. This is yet another CBP initiative to fasten the passenger inspection process. In 2017, port's "Navigation Improvements Project" received federal authorization for the US Army Corps of Engineers to dredge (deepen and widen) its navigational channels The project is anticipated to create around 2200 construction jobs plus around 1500 permanent local jobs as result of the increased cargo shipping traffic.

On November 4, 2016, world's largest cruise ships ( Royal Caribbean 's Oasis-class vessels Allure , Oasis and Harmony ) came together off Port Everglades for the first time. Carrying together over 16,000 passengers, the three liners joined up to celebrate the USA-homeporting of Harmony of the Seas (newest Oasis ship) in Fort Lauderdale. Of the three ships, Harmony was the newest but also the biggest - even though by only 1 ft (30 cm) and 1700 tons. Harmony OTS was finishing her inaugural Transatlantic repositioning crossing.

During season 2016-17, the world's top-three largest cruise homeports/turnaround ports handled the following numbers of passengers - PortMiami (4,98M), Port Canaveral (4,248M), Port Everglades (3,826M).

Following President Trump's executive order on immigration, in the end of January 2017 Port Everglades officials reported cruise tourists being detained by US Customs and Border Protection. All detainees had to provide background info about them, their families and also their past life in their native countries. The new President's order was signed on Jan 27, and included a 90-day ban on travel to the USA by citizens of Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.

Starting December 22, 2017 (through April 2018), HAL Holland America Line ( Carnival Corporation brand) scheduled cruises to Cuba roundtrip from Port Everglades on MS Veendam . HAL's 7-, 11-12-days long Cuban itineraries from Fort Lauderdale also visited other Caribbean ports. HAL's prices started from USD 900 per person (double occupancy inside cabin rates). Bookings opened on May 26, 2017. The 210-passenger ship Pearl Mist became the ever-first to operate roundtrip Fort Lauderdale to Cuba cruises, with 10-day itineraries (January through April 2017).

For FY2019 (fiscal year) the cruise port handled ~3,892 million tourists (1% increase over FY18). On December 1st, Port Everglades reported a new "One Day World Record" with handled 55964 cruise passengers (arriving and departing). The previous single-day record was also in Port Everglades and reported on March 13, 2016 (55885 passengers).

On March 15, 2022, Broward County and Port Everglades signed a USD 495,000 agreement with FPL (Florida Power & Light Company/1925-founded, the state's largest power utility, subsidiary of NextEra Energy Inc) to explore providing shore-power supply/city-grid electricity to all cruise berths.

• The shoreside-power technology allows the docked vessels to switch off their diesel engines and use the city grid's electricity for all onboard operations and services. By the agreement, FPL will construct a new power substation and distribution facilities/infrastructure upgrades at the cruise port.
• In January 2023 was completed the study (conducted by Moffatt & Nichol/ Long Beach CA -based infrastructure advisory firm) for adding shorepower to Port Everglades' all 8 cruise terminals. The project is a cooperation between FPL and the shipowners (with homeporting operations in Fort Lauderdale) Carnival Corporation, RCG-Royal Caribbean Group, and DCL-Disney Cruise Line.
• The study assessed the Port's existing power grid's capacity, identified the needed infrastructure upgrades and also recommended a plan for installing the required equipment for a total of 16 MW of electricity to be delivered simultaneously to all passenger terminals.

The shore-power project's cost was estimated at ~US$20 million per terminal. The total ~US$160 million investment is expected to be financed through federal and state grants, plus contributions from Broward County , FPL, and the three participating cruise companies. Construction works are scheduled to start in 2024-Q2 and be completed in 2027-Q4.

Port Everglades

As container shipping (cargo) port, in 2013 Port Everglades was ranked Florida's 1st and USA's 10th busiest, handling over 1 million TEUs.

In 2015, the Port received its LEED certification (abbrev "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design") for Cruise Terminal 4. Following a renovation project, Terminal 4 received major energy-efficient improvements. The features that made the Terminal 4 facility eligible for LEED certification include:

• use of regionally produced materials (within 500 mi / 800 km of the terminal)
• use of recycled asphalt and concrete in construction works
• use of natural light within the building
• use of low VOC products (abbrev "volatile organic compounds") for coating, flooring, paints, adhesives
• low-water usage toilets
• energy-efficient windows, air-conditioning, lighting (inside / outside)

In June 2017, the port invested USD 38,4 million for purchasing 3x container-handling gantry cranes (serving the world's largest Super Post-Panamax container carriers/boxships ) priced USD 13,8 million each. This class of cargo vessels can carry up to 10,500 TEU-containers each. Port Everglades' capacity improvements project was budgeted USD 437,5 million, and included construction of new berths (for larger cargo vessels) and installing a new rail infrastructure for new gantry cranes.

For FY17 (fiscal year 2017 / ending on September 30) Port Everglades reported increased cruise passenger shipping volumes as well as a record year for container shipping volumes.

• In 2017 it handled a total of 1,076893 million TEUs or an increase of 4% over FY16. The last record year was FY15 (1,060507 million TEUs). Petroleum shipping volumes (FY17 over FY16) increased by 1% - from 121,068561 million to 122,267524 million barrels.
• There was also an increase in reefer volumes (refrigerated containers) carrying produce from Central America. This containerized cargo segment represents over 50% of all perishable cargo shipped to Florida. The other major containerized import cargoes are apparel, tiles, beverages, machinery, auto parts.
• The increase in passenger shipping numbers (FY17 over FY16) was 1% as the port handled a total of 3,863662 million pax. Multi-day cruise ship tourists increased by 2% (3,680549 to 3,738252 million pax). Among the largest newcomers in 2017 were the liners Harmony of the Seas ( RCI ) and MS Koningsdam ( HAL ).
• Port's FY17 operating revenue was USD 163 million. The port's total economic value was nearly USD 30 billion, with 222,000+ local (Florida) jobs impacted, of which ~13,000 employed by companies providing direct services to the port.

On May 10, 2018, USCG Cutter James offloaded in Port Everglades approx 6 tons of cocaine (street value USD 180 million) interdicted in international waters in the Pacific Ocean. Drugs were seized by 3 USCG cutters (Bertholf, Bear, James) and from 6 separate drug smuggling ships navigating off Central and South America and Mexico in the period February-April 2018. In June-July were seized over 7 tons of cocaine by cutters Mohawk (3395 kg), Tampa (1363 kg), Venturous (741 kg), Alert (981 kg).

In June 2018, NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) installed an advanced sensor system designed for real-time monitoring of tides, water currents, sea levels and other meteo information at Port Everglades. The new "Port Everglades Physical Oceanographic Real-Time System" provides online data accessible to private boaters and commercial users.

In early-December 2018, Port Everglades and Empresa Nacional Portuaria de Honduras (Honduras Port Authority) signed an MOU as part of the Sister Seaports Program. Honduras is Port Everglades' largest trade partner by shipping volume, including total TEUs. Over USD 2,12 billion worth of goods are annually shipped through the seaport.

In 2020-2025, at Port Everglades will be conducted major infrastructure development works (~USD 1,6 billion) including navigation channels dredging (deepening from 42 to 50 ft / 13 to 15 m) and widening (to allow access to Neo-Panamax ships), building a new facility at USCG Station Fort Lauderdale, building a new cruise parking garage (to serve Terminal 2 and Terminal 4).

• Southport's turning was extended/lengthened from 900 to 2400 ft (274 to 732 m). By the Southport Turning Notch Extension project (USD 471 million) were also added new cargo berths and includes the port's Crane Rail Infrastructure project.
• By the end of 2020 were scheduled for delivery and installation 3x Super Post-Panamax container cranes (ship-to-shore gantry cranes).
• In 2020, at CenterPoint Properties was completed the International Logistics Center (2-building complex sized 17 acres / 6,9 hectares).
• In 2020, cruise ship terminals 2 and 4 received a new parking space (Heron Garage, with capacity 1818 vehicles), elevator banking, an air-conditioned passenger boarding bridge (mobile walkways link to Terminal 2).
• In December 2016 (by the Harbor Navigation Improvement project) the US Army Corps of Engineers deepened and widened the port's shipping channels. In 2020, the US Army Corps of Engineers received federal funding (USD 29,1 billion) to widen the Intracoastal Waterway (USA's Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts).
• Road improvements will reduce traffic congestion. An APM (Automated People Mover) will link directly Port Everglades with Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport and Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale (1950 Eisenhower Blvd).

On April 26, 2021, DCL-Disney Cruise Line requested the Port to negotiate for homeporting at "Cruise Terminal 4" and the adjacent "Berth 4" to move its operations from Miami to Port Everglades.

• The deal (signed in December) allows DCL to homeport for year-round roundtrips.
• The 15-year agreement (thru 2038) requires DCL to provide a minimum 10,6 million passenger movements. Three optional extensions (5-year each) will add another 11,25 million movements.
• Disney's Terminal 4 design (provided by "Bermello, Ajamil & Partners Inc" (1939-founded, Miami-based) was officially approved by the Broward County Commission on April 5, 2022.

The Port's investment into Disney's "Cruise Terminal 4" was ~US$ 35 million.

The first ship ( Disney Dream ) started year-round homeporting here on November 20, 2023. A second DCL vessel ( Disney Magic )  was scheduled to homeport only seasonally (starting on May 9, 2025). The new Disney terminal was officially opened/inaugurated on November 13th. The ceremony was attended by Sharon Siskie (DCL's Senior VP and General Manager).

Fort Lauderdale cruise terminal

The northern part of Port Everglades is called Northport (with terminals 2 and 4). The cruise port's central area is called Midport (terminals 18, 19, 21, 25, 26, 29). All cruise terminals (8 total) are located in Hollywood Harbor.

Port Everglades's address is "1850 Eller Drive, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33316". Cruise tourists usually arrive via flights to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport but also to MIA-Miami Airport (approx 29 mi / 47 km from Port Everglades). The driving time Miami-Fort Lauderdale is ~45 min.

In December 2020 was completed the new cruise parking garage (Herron Garage) that serves Terminal 2 and Terminal 4.

• Herron Garage has capacity 1818 vehicles and features an air-conditioned bridge (with autowalks linking directly to Terminal 2 Ocean Medallion Terminal), solar power (generated by 360x photovoltaic panels), 9 elevators, touchless parking management systems (entry and payments), dedicated drop-off/pick-up level.
• At the garage's corner (that faces the roadway) was painted a 3D-optical illusion mural (height 70 ft / 21 m).
• For the construction works were contracted two local companies ("Stiles Construction" and "Pirtle Construction"). For the facility's design and engineering was contracted "Cartaya & Associates Architects PA".

Herron Garage project cost USD 120 million.

Northport Cruise Terminals

Both Northport cruise ship terminals are provided with standard services and amenities, such as disabled access, check-in desks, full-served A/C, free seating areas, baggage handling areas. These terminals are utilized by MSC Cruises (Terminal 4) and Princess Cruises (Terminal 2).

Port Everglades' "Northport Terminal 2" and "Northport Terminal 4" share a car parking (a multi-story garage) with capacity thousands of cars. Parking prices are USD 15 daily.

Cruise Terminal 2 (Princess Cruises)

On November 10, 2017, Carnival Corporation completed Cruise Terminal 2's reconstruction and upgrade. This facility is used exclusively by Princess Cruises ships.

• Following the modernization, the terminal now features an optimized design, interactive experiences, indoor movie theater, re-designed pre-embarkation area.
• The project also included adding Carnival's xIoT network (serving the Ocean Medallion gadgets) which allows passengers on Medallion-equipped vessels expedited boarding (as soon as they enter the facility). The new interactive experience includes personal "Ocean Tagalongs" (serving as guests' digital avatars) displayed on a large LED screen surrounding the "Ocean Portal" (where passengers enter after security clearance and check-in). Ocean Tagalongs are created and personalized via the SocialOcean mobile app.
• The refurbished Terminal 2 now has Carnival's MedallionNet - top-quality Wi-Fi connectivity service.
• Regal Princess was the first cruise ship departing from the modernized Terminal 2 on NOvember 13, 2017.

Midport Cruise Terminals

All cruise terminals at Midporth provide usual facilities like disabled access, luggage handling, free areas for seating, automated gangway bridge (for passenger embarkation/disembarkation), restrooms, vending machines.

• Port Everglades' Midporth Terminal 18 has a large car parking. Midporth Terminals 19 through 29 all offer parking at the Midport's garage.
• Terminal 18 and Terminal 29 are utilized by various cruise ship companies and operators.

Exclusive cruise terminals are Terminal 26 ( Holland America Line ), Terminal 21 ( Carnival Cruise Line ), Terminal 19 ( Princess Cruises ), Terminals 18 and 25 ( Royal Caribbean ).

There are also plans for future using of Terminal 29. By the signed agreement, Carnival Corporation ships will use exclusively the facilities on terminals 2, 21 and 26. By the previously signed 15-year agreement (1995-2010), Port Everglades invested USD 54+ million in facility renovations and infrastructure improvements to the 4 terminals. Among the enhancements were 2 new mobile gangways (passenger bridges), separate (enlarged) baggage storage facilities, improved ground transportation.

T25 - Terminal 25 (Celebrity Cruises)

In early-June 2017 was announced that Port Everglades invests USD 114+ million in Terminal 25's renovations. This is the preferential berth for RCG-Royal Caribbean Group ships.

The agreement's period is through 2026, with optional extension until 2030, followed by additional 5 years.

Terminal 25 was redesigned and rebranded by Celebrity Cruises. The expansion project included larger luggage area, new VIP reception (The Retreat - exclusive lounge), private rooftop terrace, dedicated crew lounge (industry's first), elevator lobbies, screening areas, 136 m2 (1463 ft2) GKD Mediamesh-produced LED sign (interactive light wall wrapping building's exterior). For Terminal 25's new design was contracted the company "Bermello Ajamil and Partners". The new T25 offers expedited arrival with seamless check-in.

RCG (which also owns Celebrity Cruises ) homeported Celebrity Edge here, starting turnaround operations in 2018 (on December 1st). The new T25 terminal (in Hollywood FL) was officially inaugurated with the ship's arrival (on November 20th). The grand ceremony was attended by Richard Fain (RCG's President and CEO) and Lisa Lutoff-Perlo (Celebrity's President and CEO), plus key cruise brand executives and local officials. An exclusive event was hosted at NSU's Oceanographic Center.

Northport Cruise Terminal 4

Northport Terminal 4 was reopened in 2015 following a USD 24 million renovation and modernization project for greater efficiency and passenger convenience.

In mid-2017 were completed the works on Cruise Terminal 4's extensions (project cost USD 13,6 million) which allows now docking of larger vessels.

In August 2016, the port signed with Carnival Corporation an extension to their agreement to the year 2030. Plans for Cruise Terminal 21's expansion were included. The renovation and extension allow the handling of larger-sized (including Carnival's newest) vessels. As part of the addendum, Carnival Corporation receives preferential berthing at Terminal 4.

Since October 2017, larger vessels (LOA length up to 1100 ft / 335 m) can dock at Cruise Terminal 4 without extending into the ICW (Intracoastal Waterway - 3000 mi / 4800 km long inland waterway along USA's Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts). The USD 18 million "Slip 2" project lengthened the slip from 900 ft (274 m) to 1125 ft (343 m). The extended berth now meets the needs of most modern cruise vessels, many of which were for the first time homeported in Port Everglades in 2017. For the slip extension project the port didn't use local taxes.

In December 2021 the Port signed with DCL-Disney a 15-year agreement (2023 thru 2038) for upgrading Terminal 4 (US$35M investment) to allow homeporting a larger liner (max passenger capacity 3500) for year-round roundtrips. This followed Disney's decision to change homeporting to Port Everglades from Miami.

Driving Directions and Parking Information Port Everglades 1850 Eller Drive Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33316 Port Everglades is approximately 2 miles from Fort Lauderdale International Airport and 30 miles from Miami International Airport. Parking is $15.00 per day (rates subject to change by Port Authority). Traveling from Fort Lauderdale International Airport - Exit the airport and follow signs for I-595 East/Port Everglades. Continue to the last exit on I-595 East and follow the signs to Port Everglades. This will automatically take you to the Port Everglades security entrance. From there, follow the directional signs for your designated ship's pier terminal. From Miami International Airport - Take 836 East to I-95 North. Exit I-95 North at 595 East. Follow 595 to the end; then follow the Port Everglades signs.

If arriving at the port by car, you can easily access Port Everglades via major highways such as Interstate 595, U.S. Route 1, and Interstate 95. 

Signs are well-posted and help guide you. Once you arrive in the area, follow the signs to your specific cruise terminal for drop-off points. Onsite parking is also available.

Here are the suggested driving directions from Port Everglades authority :

✧ From I-95: 

• From the south: Take Exit #26 to I-595 East
• From the north: Take Exit #24 to I-595 East

Once on I-595 East from either direction, follow signs to the Port Everglades exit. 

✧ From I-75 north or south:

Take Exit #19 to I-595 East, then take the exit to Port Everglades.

✧ From Florida Turnpike North or South

Take Exit #54 to I-595 East, then take the exit to Port Everglades.

Parking at the Fort Lauderdale cruise port is on a first-come, first-served basis and is the best option if your budget allows. Parking fees start at $15 per day.

The Port has two parking garages with nearly 4,000 spaces and several lots: 

• Palm Parking Garage is the largest covered parking lot with 1,966 spaces and serves terminals 19, 21, 25, 26, and 29. 
• Heron Parking Garage is another covered lot with over 1,800 parking spots and serves terminals 2 and 4. 
• The surface lots are not covered (AKA: exposed to the Florida heat!). Lots 18 and 19 offer 600 and 400 spaces if you want to park outdoors. Truthfully, though, if you park at Port Everglades, they’ll likely direct you to the open lot that day closest to the embarking cruise ships. That's what they did when we sailed with Celebrity Cruises .

✧ Parking Offsite Near Port Everglades

If you want reassurance that you will have parking, choose privately run lots such as Park By The Ports , located in Dania Beach, where the Fort Lauderdale airport is; it's right next to the cruise port. A shuttle will take you to your cruise terminal, and you can reserve a spot in advance. Other options are Park N’ Go , and Parkway Parking , which offer the best prices. 

✧ Airport Shuttle Option 

If you’re flying into an airport to board your cruise, you can take a third-party shuttle from either Fort Lauderdale (FLL) Airport or Miami Airport (MIA), which includes the shuttle price, driver's gratuity, and Port Fees. There is no free shuttle service.

✧ Uber/Lyft

Taxis and rideshares are available to get to Port Everglades. Expect to pay between $15-$20 from FLL and between $80 and $120 to the port in Fort Lauderdale from MIA.

✦ Getting to Port Everglades via Public Transportation 

Though it’s not very direct, it's possible to get to the port by bus if you’re up for a bit of a trek. Local bus service stops at the Northport section of Port Everglades on SE 17th S. Look for scheduled bus routes 1 or 40 for more details.

If you’re traveling to Fort Lauderdale from Miami or Orlando, the Brightline train is a good option. You take the train to Fort Lauderdale, then can hop in a taxi, Lyft, or Uber to get to the cruise port, which is only 4 miles away.

Brightline tickets are as low as $10 each way for adults, depending on the route and day of the week.

Port Everglades Welcomes New Lines, New Ships and a New Terminal

BROWARD COUNTY, FL  - Port Everglades is kicking off the 2023-2024 cruise season by welcoming new cruise lines and ships, and establishing itself as a new homeport for Disney Cruise Line.

“We could very well top our 4 million passenger record, although our ‘official’ projected number is conservatively estimated at some 3.7 million embarking and disembarking guests,” said Port Everglades CEO and Port Director Jonathan Daniels. “As a trend, we are seeing more luxury ships such as Viking and Ritz-Carlton, and shorter itineraries from Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Disney.”

So far this season, which started in October, Port Everglades has welcomed first calls from Viking’s expedition ships Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris , Viking Mars , as well as Phoenix Reisen’s Artania .

Disney Cruise Line is bringing its magic to Port Everglades. Beginning November 20, 2023, the Disney Dream will homeport year-round in a specially designed cruise terminal dedicated for Disney Cruise Line guests. The partnership with Disney includes a 15-year agreement with one ship to be homeported in Port Everglades year-round and joined by a second, seasonal ship, to be announced, in 2025. The agreement supports an estimated 1,111 direct local jobs generating $31.6 million in wages and $12.3 million in state and local taxes over the 15-year term, according to a study by nationally recognized maritime research company Martin Associates. Adding Port Everglades as a second homeport gives Disney a dedicated terminal in a market with direct highway access and one of the nation's fastest growing airports, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). 

Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Ascent debuts at Port Everglades with two 3- and 4-night preview sailings in November 2023 before being named at Port Everglades on December 1, 2023, and embarking on her inaugural Caribbean season with alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. Celebrity Ascent is the fourth ship in Celebrity’s Edge Series class, and one of seven Celebrity ships to sail from Port Everglades this season.

Silver Nova , the latest luxury ship in the voyage collection for Silversea Cruises, will be named at Port Everglades on January 4, 2024. This will be the first ship to use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as its main fuel at Port Everglades.

Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis-class Symphony of the Seas will shift to Port Everglades after returning from Europe in November 2023 and will sail alternating 6- and 8-night cruises to the Caribbean.

Luxury cruise line Azamara joins the Port Everglades fleet for the first time with the arrival of the Azamara Onward on November 30, 2023. Azamara Onward will finish the 2024 season at Port Everglades with an inaugural 155-night World Voyage departing January 5, 2024, visiting over 40 countries with 22 overnight stays and 27 late nights in port.

Port Everglades is also looking forward to having a busier than usual summer 2024 with five cruise ships including Celebrity Beyond (7-days), Celebrity Reflection (3- and 4-days) , Disney Magic (3-, 4- and 5-days), Enchanted Princess (7-days), and Freedom of the Seas (7 days).

Further on the horizon for 2024, Princess Cruises will homeport the brand-new evolutionary Sun Princess at Port Everglades beginning in October 2024. Sun Princess , the first in the line’s new Sphere class, will be Princess Cruises’ first LNG-fueled ship and its largest, accommodating more than 4,000 guests.

The newly rebranded luxury line Crystal recently announced that it will move from Miami and begin homeporting from Port Everglades in November 2024, with the completely refurbished Crystal Serenity .

Looking further into the future and expanding its commitment to initiating environmental initiatives, Port Everglades has completed a study to add shore power to the port's eight cruise terminals, which will allow cruise ships to use electricity while idling in port instead of burning fuel. The study was performed by Moffatt & Nichol, a global infrastructure advisory firm working in cooperation with Florida Power & Light (FPL), Carnival Corporation, Disney Cruise Line and the Royal Caribbean Group. The recommended plan is capable of delivering up to 16 megawatts of electricity simultaneously to each of the eight terminals in accordance with IEC/IEEE 80005 standards. The projected cost for the project, including the estimates for FPL supply and distribution system upgrades, is approximately $20 million per cruise terminal, for a total cost of $160 million. The project is expected to be financed through federal and state grant funds, contributions from FPL, the participating cruise lines, and Broward County. Implementation will occur in phases. The earliest construction could occur is mid-2024 with all phases completed by the end of 2027.
