Sounded amazing! I drank a shit load of beer. What a treat to hear De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas live. The crowd was scary as shit and my ears are still ringing.

Once we got in, the first opening band Black Anvil only took a few minutes to take the stage, once they started i was immediately in the mood for the show, they were a great opener and got the crowd in a good mood. About 10-15 minutes after they finished up Inquisition came out to an already packed crowd in the Ballroom. Inquisition completely blew me away, so much so that I bought their new album on vinyl, and a T-Shirt. About 20 minutes of setting up the stage later the theatrics started for Mayhem, and when Funeral Fog kicked in the place went crazy, with a huge pit taking up around half the floor. Mayhem was incredible and it was truly a once in a lifetime kind of show.

The Norwegian black metal band Mayhem are one of the heaviest bands I have seen live, but I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. From the stylised vocals, to the constant shredding of the guitar, and their quirky props such as a skulls head, the show was electric and exciting. Since the release of the EP back in the late 80s, they’ve had a loyal following, many of whom were at the concert I saw them at. Their experimental elements of the black metal make their shows exciting and innovative, and also won them an award for their album Ordo Ad Chao.

They opened the show with a lengthy instrumental performance that I hadn’t heard before, which really got the audience in the spirit for the show. It’s always great to hear new material by talented musicians, and this went down really well. Their set and costumes were also visually incredible, and added to the performance, putting an element of excited fear in the audience.

They played a selection of tracks from Ordo Ad Chao, as well as many from their newest album, Esoteric Warfare, which was epic to hear after such anticipation of the new album. The band put on a brilliant show, which really blew everyone away.

Far beyond legendary and a living monument to fearless creativity,  MAYHEM  have cast an icy shadow across the world of heavy music for nearly four decades. Subversive students of the metal underground from the start, MAYHEM single-handedly pioneered a new strain of black metal in their native Norway, taking the nascent genre by the scruff of the neck and hurling it into the pitch-black abyss.

Featuring iconic members Atilla Csihar, Necrobutcher and Hellhammer, and with the reputation of being one of the most controversial live acts to ever disgrace this planet, MAYHEM propel their latest rituals to Australia this forthcoming January.

Alongside this volatile, Nordic, leviathan will be comrades in New Zealand’s unorthodoxly oppressive death metal contingent  ULCERATE , and the absurdly abrasive three headed savage that is Australia’s  WEREWOLVES . All in, the ‘Thalassic Ritual’ serves as an indisputable pilgrimage for the extreme arts enthusiast.

Subversive students of the metal underground from the start the band single-handedly pioneered a new strain of black metal in their native Norway, taking the nascent genre by the scruff of the neck and hurling it into the pitch-black abyss.

Featuring iconic members Atilla Csihar , Necrobutcher and Hellhammer, and with the reputation of being one of the most controversial live acts to ever disgrace this planet, Mayhem will propel their latest rituals to Australia this forthcoming January.

Alongside this volatile, Nordic, leviathan will be comrades in New Zealand’s unorthodoxly oppressive death metal contingent Ulcerate , and the absurdly abrasive three-headed savage that is Australia’s own Werewolves .

 The 'Thalassic Ritual’ offers an indisputable pilgrimage for the extreme arts enthusiast.

Mayhem haven't toured Australia since 2018, and the band are promising to play a selection of tracks from across their 30 year career, including a few new songs from their 2021 release  Atavistic Black Disorder / Kommando  and their 2019 full-length Daemon .

Kicking off in January 2023, the triple header of heavy will also feature New Zealand death metallers Ulcerate and our very own Werewolves .

In their nearly four decades together, Mayhem has blown apart the minds (and speakers) of metalheads all over the world. They are Necrobutcher, Hellhammer, Attila Csihar, Teloch and Ghul.  The band last hit our shores in 2018 in celebration of their iconic record De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas . This time around, they’ll be supporting their 2021 EP Atavistic Black Disorder / Kommando.

Mayhem Announce Aussie Tour with Ulcerate & Werewolves

Black metal fans, this one’s for you. Take off the facemasks and put on the face-paint, ’cause Norwegians Mayhem  are making their return to Australian shores for the Thalassic Ritual tour. The shows are happening in January next year where the five-piece will perform the best tracks from their thirty year career including some new tracks off 2021 EP Atavistic Black Disorder / Kommando .

The dark metalers will be joined by Kiwis Ulcerate and Aussies Werewolves . This Soundworks Tour is going to be a big way to start the year, particularly Mayhem haven’t graced our shores since 2018 (gig review here ). It’s been quite a few years, so enjoy this post-COVID satanic delight.
