Day 1: Arrival Casablanca

A local representative will meet you at the airport.

Upon arrival, you will enjoy a private tour of Casablanca and visit its most renowned monuments, including La Corniche on the oceanfront and the beautiful Hassan II Mosque. After touring Casablanca, you will be transferred to Rabat in a private vehicle with English speaking driver. Casablanca is the main business center in Morocco, which was established as a commercial center by the French.

Day 2: Rabat – Fes

With your qualified, private tour guide and private driver, start your Moroccan custom tour from Rabat to Fes. Make a stop at the Roman ruins of Volubilis and Moulay Idriss I’s sacred town, the burial town of the first Moroccan kingdom founder.

Enjoy local Moroccan lunch, then to Meknes, known as “the Moroccan Versailles,” founded at the end of the 17th Century by Moulay Ismail. Highlights will include Bab Mansour, Hari Souani, and the old medina. Continue to Fes. Arrival, check-in, dinner, and overnight stay at the Riad

The whole day will be devoted to Fes’s sightseeing, the oldest cultural and spiritual imperial city of Morocco, which was founded in 790 AD by Moulay Idriss II. Highlights will include the Medieval Medina, the Medersas, the tanneries, and the sumptuous Nejjarine fountain. After lunch, we will visit the Arabian House to observe various artisans performing their work reminiscent of ancient techniques.

With your private guide and private vehicle, enjoy an afternoon’s guided tour of the labyrinthine souks of the city. Highlights of the tour will be observing the vast tanneries from a family home for this unique view, and the spice market, the most vibrant in Fes, El Attarine. Also, the henna and woodworking souks are located in the Nejjarine neighborhood, and the scent of cedarwood is noticeable. Various natural products derived from henna are sold in this market.

Day 5: Fes – Marrakech

Start your day with one of the best Morocco tours from Fes to Marrakech. The private custom tour will include lunch en-route at a local Moroccan restaurant. You will pass by Immouzer Kander, Ifrane, and Azrou, a Berber village known for its handicrafts cooperative. Continue this scenic drive through the lovely wooded mountainous region of the mid-Atlas range.

Day 6: Marrakech

Explore Marrakech on a luxury tour with your private guide & vehicle. The morning will be devoted to Marrakech’s sightseeing, the second oldest imperial city known as the “Pearl of the South” and home to the Saadian tombs, the Koutoubia Mosque, the Bahia Palace, and the Menara Gardens.

Start your private custom tour by visiting the Koutoubia mosque; this mosque’s beautiful minaret dominates the skyline of Marrakech and can be seen from almost every approach to the city, thanks to a long-standing planning ordinance that forbids any other building in the old city to rise above the height of a palm tree.

Enjoy lunch at a local Moroccan restaurant. The afternoon will then be spent exploring the souk and the world’s famous Djemaa el Fna place with its various entertainments (storytellers, acrobats, snake-charmers, magicians, etc.). Enjoy the fantasia spectacle that features camel and horse shows, folkloric troops from different Moroccan regions, and belly dancers.

Day 7: Marrakech

Enjoy time at leisure in Marrakech. Marrakech is home to a wide variety of activities while visiting Morocco. Explore the city on your own or sign up for a tour with us. Marrakech’s local attractions include hot air balloon ride, 4×4 riding, cooking class, wine tasting, camelback ride, white water rafting, zip-lining, biking, walking, garden, and historical tours.

The Riad Kalaa in Rabat

The Riad Kalaa was built in 1815 in the heart of the medina’s ramparts, only a few steps away from the ocean. This Kasbah converted into a hotel and has undergone a thorough and lengthy restoration, using artisan workmanship traditional to Morocco.

This Riad Kalaa features 9 rooms (2 standard rooms, 4 deluxe rooms, 2 junior suites, and 1 suite). Each room has its own personality as a thread with major cities of the Kingdom: Fez and the zellige, African decoration of Tan-Tan and Tarfaya, ocher colors of the room Marrakech and sands of the Zagora.

The terrace of Riad Kalaa 2 offers a panoramic view over the rooftops of the medina, where you can enjoy the tranquility, colors, fragrances, but also the incredible daylight of Rabat.

The Riad Salam in Fes

Riad Slam was built at the beginning of the 20th century and was recently restored by craftsmen who managed to recapture its jaw-dropping interiors’ glory. Riad Salam Fes is conveniently located next to Batha square and other historical sites of Fez city. Riad Salam is beautifully atmospheric, with some of the finest zellij, plasterwork, carved wood, and brass work that you can see outside of the tourist attractions.

Authentic Morocco is a small, privately owned British limited company, operating in Morocco. Our ‘love affair’ with Morocco is now decades old, our first trip being in 1985 from London to Fez in an old VW Beetle.

We specialise in organising tailor-made luxury private tours. Whilst examples of the kind of tours we offer are shown in the ‘tour’ section, please note that each trip is adapted to your specific wishes. Our tours offer a blend of the popular tourist attractions and places that are off the beaten track.

We think the best way to describe our tours are as ‘affordable luxury’. Our preferred accommodation showcases the best of Authentic Morocco – small, private and elegant with great food and hospitality. We tend not to recommend places that are flashy, ostentatious or pretentious. But ultimately the choice is yours.

The tours are designed to allow time for some spontaneity.  Hence, whilst every tour has an overall structure, there is always time to do the unexpected. After all, each day is a new start and your energy, mood and interest can change from one day to the next. Your private driver and guides have the knowledge and expertise to adapt your day accordingly. All the drivers and guides are hand-picked by us – they are charismatic, knowledgeable and responsible.

Finally, we are flexible – so if you would like to make changes to your itinerary during your tour, we will try our upmost to amend the arrangements accordingly.

What does it cost?

Our philosophy is to cost each trip fairly.  We limit the mark-up on our trips enabling us to make a profit, our drivers and guides to be paid a fair price and our clients to have a truly memorable vacation at a sensible price.

Depending on the accommodation and the number of days you require a private driver, the approximate price is somewhere between US$ 180 and US$ 450 per person per day.

On Morocco’s Atlantic coast, a little under three hours due west of Marrakesh, Essaouira is a laid-back port town cooled by the vents alizés trade winds gently blowing in from the ocean.

The city of Fes, Morocco’s second largest, is considered to be its cultural and religious capital and often referred to as the Mecca of the West.

The Atlas Mountains are a rugged chain that span North Africa from the Atlantic coast through Algeria and Tunisia, an imposing barrier between the fertile Mediterranean coast from the vast Sahara Desert.

Arrive in Casablanca where your private transfer meets you at the airport. The city sits against the coastline and fills with the ocean breeze. Palm trees sway against the Atlantic and linger beneath the towering façade of the Hassan II Mosque minaret, which rises 690 feet in the air. Art Deco buildings line the streets and decorate the skyline. You make your way out of the city and on to the energetic enchantment of Marrakech, a city that embodies the vivacious culture for which Morocco is known. The aroma of citrus fruits, such as orange and lemon drift through the streets. Strong red walls encircle the narrow and meandering alleys of the medina.

The city has embraced its eccentricities and showcases them in the expansive Djemaa el Fna Square. In the evening over 100 local cooks swarm the interior and set up makeshift grills. The aroma of slow cooking kebabs wafts around the cobblestone paved plaza. People watch the activity from on high, with panoramic views from rooftop cafes. Henna artists hold people’s palms and swirl ancient artwork over visitors’ hands and forearms. Storytellers gather crowds and weave legends of magic carpets and towering desert sand dunes. People cheer and sigh when the hero arrives. Jugglers toss sticks and blocks in the air as snake charmers play their rhythmic music like a soundtrack of the city. The plaza emanates enchantment and provides insight into the culture that has captivated visitors from around the world.

Inside the Red City

The red sandstone walls of Marrakech’s medina have given it the name of the Red City. At breakfast steam rises from fresh brewed mint tea, sweetened with honey. Your guide meets you at your renewed 19th century mansion located in the heart of the medina and escorts you on a private tour of Marrakech. Locals wind through the labyrinth on their way to work. You can hear craftsmen beginning their trade, from cobbling shoes that hang on graceful display, to shaping and smoothing leather. The city life surrounds you with incredible, daily detail. Around the bazaar you see mounds of spices displayed like colorful pyramids, from turmeric to allspice.

Their fragrances merge and create a powerful, enticing aroma. El Badi Palace was constructed in the 16th century and now stands in ruin. The palace was once paved with gold, turquoise, and crystal making the edifice justifying its nickname of “the incomparable.” Today the palace contains similar grandeur but less opulence. A 12th-century prayer pulpit is located in the main hall. Gold and silver calligraphy decorated the cedar-wood steps. The spacious grounds contain the large entrance gate and once lavish arching doors. Like so much of Marrakech, the inspiration lies as much as in what remains, as it does in the ability to imagine what once was.

Antique Imagery

The subtle bubbling of the courtyard fountain adds a relaxed ambiance to breakfast. Your private transfer meets you at the Riad and takes you out of inspiring city of Marrakech. The red walls disappear behind the mixture of valley lushness and mountain foothills. The High Atlas Mountains climb to an elevation of 13,671 feet. Snow often brushes and covers the rugged mountaintops around Toubkal National Park. Travel through the stunning landscape at Tizi n’Tichka Pass, situated at 7,414 feet to arrive at Morocco’s oldest Kasbah, Aït ben Haddou.

The city was constructed using clay and changes colors depending on the time of day: from red to gold and back again. The fortified city was constructed in the 19th century by the patronage of the last Berber chieftain. The city rises up a small bluff and has a view of the vast landscape and nearby barren hillsides. The scent of clay is prevalent. The city walls are reinforced with strategic towers. A granary stands at the top of the hill and provides a breathtaking panorama of the landscape beyond the historic city. Goats graze on the contrasting brush beyond the wall. Their bleats mesh with their pealing bells.

Desert Guidance

The trail to the Sahara Desert takes you away from the hillside Kasbah and through the impressive landscape of the Todra Gorge. The road winds and hairpin curves down the cliffs and passes through the narrowest point where the cliffs are separated by a width of a mere 33 feet; the canyon walls rise to a maximum height of 525 feet high. The rugged red walls glint in the sunlight. In the wet season water trundles down the cliff side and feeds into the small river at the canyon base. Greenery climbs up the craggy walls and contrasts the rustic coloration. Pass through the towns of Rissani and Erfoud to the village of Merzouga, located at the Sahara’s golden edge, where the rocky expanse fades into sandy waves. Settle into town with a welcoming glass of fresh brewed mint tea. Your riad provides splendid view into the open desert, where the isolated horizon brings unfettered beauty.

Remnants of Paradise

The aroma of breakfast is filled with sweet honey and decadent butter. The scents blend into the arid fragrance of the surrounding desert. After your meal, you visit with a local Gnawa tribe, descendants of Sudanese migrants originally brought along with the slave trade. The people show indescribable hospitality and share their distinctive music. A large drum creates the beat. The men wear long, flowing, thin cotton robes. They dress their heads with a similar cloth to keep them safe from the beating sun. A lute provides the melody as two men clasp large heavy iron castanets known as krakebs .

The men begin to sing and you can hear the tribal elements that have persisted through the evolution of the music, a combination of storytelling, prayer, and expression. After your cultural exploration, you will climb aboard a camel as a part of a famous desert camel train. When you sit in the saddle the camel rises back first, which urges you forward. At full height a camel can stand over seven-feet. The camel sways from side to side as it steps through the sand. It feels more like you are sailing than you are sitting on a camel trudging through the sand. You arrive at a luxury camp set beneath the desert sky. The seclusion and silence of the landscape are breathtaking.

Nomadic Allure

Wake up in the darkness of the predawn desert. When the sun rises over the horizon it peeks slowly over the sand in layers of orange and blue. The night stars dwindle in the subtle glow of the sunlight. The sand changes from dark blue to gold, glistening under the light. A kaleidoscope of color swirls around the sun until is has risen over the vista. Before returning to Merzouga you visit celebrated Erg Chebbi, a collection of sand dunes spreading over 17 miles. Each dune is like a fingerprint, unique in major and minor details. From the base of the desert a single dune can rise to almost 525 feet creating drifting and shifting mountains. The breeze sweeps over the warm landscape and moves loose grains. The desert splendor is undeniable. Nomads continue to drift through the desert grounds, often grazing the edges of the mines at Mefis. You return to the desert village with images of the sand dunes rolling through your thoughts.

Winding Trail

After breakfast, you journey away from the desert sands and the distant dunes. The openness fades, replaced by the rising foothills of the Middle Atlas Mountains. The mountains rise to an elevation of 10,958 feet at its highest point. The aroma of the cedar forest replaces the scent of arid earth. Arrive at Midelt, a town situated in the heart of Moroccan apple country. The High Atlas Mountains rise seemingly out of the nowhere and overtake the northern horizon. The aroma of couscous, filled with traditional herbs and spices and also a cultural staple for Berbers for ages, permeates the town. Less than three miles away is the Village of Berrem where an ancient walnut tree provides shade to the central square. Ancient walls made of clay and mud surround the colorful prayer hall. An old donkey trail leads from between the two towns and runs alongside Gorge des Berrem, where the meandering, craggy walls of the canyon are the color of turmeric.

Making Clans

Imilchil is a small village located close to the Middle Atlas Mountains’ lake plateau. The village is located at an elevation of 6,952 feet. Berber culture is strong and proud, displayed most widely during the Marriage Festival in September. Traditions abound in dress, cuisine, and celebration. Women wear dark clothing that covers most of their facial features, save their eyes. Colorful, dangling jewelry and wraps encircle their heads to create flowing crowns. The rest of the year the town is quiet and serene, surrounded by the exquisite natural landscape of the mountains. After breakfast, you can make your way to the Lake Isli by 4x4 for an intermediate trek across the scenery. The water shimmers bright blue and ripples in the slight breeze. Mountains border the far side of the water’s banks. Relax near the lake, listening to the calm water lap at the shores.

Visiting the Locals

The crisp scent of the cedar forest drifts across the Middle Atlas Mountains. After breakfast, your private transfer meets you at the hotel and you continue your journey across the range. Azrou is located at an elevation of 3,940 feet. Moroccans from either side of the mountain range travel up the foothills to escape the summer heat. A black volcanic outcropping rises out of the center of town while rugged cliffs encircle the city. Traditional village life remains vibrant as thousands of people from around the mountain descend on the city to visit the weekly souk.  Cherries mound the marketplace and shine a vivacious red.

Hand woven rugs and wool hats decorate the medina. The nearby cedar forest sings with Barbary apes. The cedar forest is home to nearly three-quarters of the world’s Barbary ape population. The trees can grow up to 120 feet tall and contain a spiced fragrance. The wood is a rich brown and the foliage is a lush green. Apes linger along the forest border, lazing under the canopy. Their cinnamon fur keeps them warm in the dipping temperatures of the high altitude forest. They can grow up to 21 inches long, not including the length of its tail. They roam around the forest ground and play against the backdrop of trees.

The Trail’s Edge

Fez is one of the four imperial cities of Morocco. A medieval ambiance emanates from the old city, encircled by the original city walls. Bab Bou Jelou, the historic city gate, continues to grace the entrance of the medina. Blue tiles reflect the sunlight and glimmer around the tripartite arches that open to passersby. The rich aroma of leather swirls through the narrow, winding streets and emanate from the historic tannery pits. Your private guide escorts you through the maze of the old city. The history along the buildings and bazaar is palpable and enriching.

Jovial and boisterous streets date back 1,200 years and are filled with a wealth of spices all around. Tradesmen beat copper that sounds like a pealing bell. Tanners pound the fabric and try to drain excess dye. A sea of whitewashed tombs stretching down the hillside marks the Jewish Cemetery. The north wall contains etchings of a historic rabbi dating back to the 17th century. An ethereal quiet wraps around the grounds, separating itself from the energetic streets of the city.

At the far end of the square is the old Habarim Synagogue, housing a museum of local Jewish artifacts and heritage. A gatekeeper opens the gate and you enter into a world of personal belongings, filled with more than glistening calligraphy and ancient dressing. Photos of families smile at the camera in front of a backdrop of the familiar medina. Sent postcards from places around the world were sent to local addresses. Contemporary history makes the heritage feel more tangible and present, dating hundreds of years ago and reaching into modernity.

Following the Foothills

Around the foothills of the Rif Mountains are the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. Stone arches mark the entrance to the main road and almost frame the nearby mountains. The grass on the prairie is green and fertile. The stones are worn and smooth dating back to 25 BC. The city provides insight into the depth of history that Morocco holds, whether in tribal heritage or contemporary city streets. Arrive in Meknes, the 17th century capital of Morocco, and home to a calm atmosphere strolling through the old, walled city.

The famous gate of Bab Mansour creates an imposing and powerful statement before entering the medina. Fragrant spices drift past as you enter the narrow alleys. Medersa Bou Inania was completed in the 14th century and contains an exquisite interior displaying classic Moroccan style. The courtyard flourishes with tiles arranged in a hypnotic geometric pattern. Delicate stucco lines the midline of the walls and the ceilings are covered with carved olivewood. From the rooftop you can see the green-tiled mosque nearby, along with the towering minaret that marks the medina’s skyline.

The Path’s End

Morning in the capital city of Rabat is relaxed and euphoric. The gentle gurgle of a courtyard fountain fills the air. Breakfast gives off aromas of orange zest and a honey, saffron mixture. 9 days cultural Tour from Casablanca ( Private tour )

Booking - Excellent The booking was very smooth with Cultural Morocco Tours and everything was organized on point. Our driver/guide/friend Yassine was excellent and helpful and took care of us throughout the trip, always punctual and looking out for our best interests. He was very helpful in multiple situations and was a pleasure to do the trip with him. The quality of the individual tour guides in the different places varied, but that is expected. Hotels - Excellent - Riad Ahlam in Fes is an exceptional place with exceptional people, Dar Blues in Boumalne Dades also was great, although we reached very late and really did not take too much advantage of the lovely, remote place. Good - Tiziri Camp in Merzouga was a nice, secluded place in the desert. Riad Palais Des Princesses & Spa in Morocoo was a nice hotel, but the room and bathroom were very very small. Average - Hotel Val D’Anfa Casablanca was a regular hotel, right next to the beach and quite central, but poor service Very Poor - Hotel Dar Mounir in Chefchaouen was bad, tiny room and water leaking in the room. Overall Experience - Ranges from good to excellent, except the couple of bad hotel experiences. In terms of places, Chefchaouen was the pick of the bunch, followed by Fes. I would recomment Cultural Morocco tours, just make sure to check all the hotels beforehand.

5 Days Unspoiled Sahara and shooting Stars Experience

Morocco Joy Travel has created an extremely unique experience among guided tours of Morocco. The tour operator and creator of Morocco Joy Travel, Ali, offered a personalized and highly customizable tour of the desert that was both adventurous and informative. We ended up doing a lot of off-roading in areas that few tourists see and making a BBQ in the desert. At the same time, I learned a lot about the history of Morocco, its Berber tribes, the customs and life style of the country and its future aspirations. This trip was worth every penny, I will be contacting Ali the next time I am in Morocco to organize another personal tour.

7 Days IMPERIAL CITIES and SAHARA EXPERIENCE

This was a fantastic tour of Morocco with Morocco Joy Travel - my wife and I loved it! Ali was our guide for the tour and he was wonderful. Ali was great at giving us interesting details on the places we visited, advice on what to do in different locations, he had really good, consistent communication, and he was just fun to be with. He was also very flexible - we had a suitcase get lost in transit and he helped call the baggage handlers and get our bag delivered much faster and easier than it would have been otherwise, and he adapted our schedule to accommodate this. We also wanted to add on a side-trip and he gave great advice on what to do with the extra time and made it happen (for a very reasonable extra cost). We loved visiting intense Marrakech and visiting crowded markets and beautiful palaces with a local guide. Next we headed through the rugged Atlas Mountains on our way to the desert. Ali did a great job of stopping at interesting sites along the way for pictures and to stretch our legs. A highlight of our trip was riding camels in the sand dunes to experience the desert in a unique way. After a night in the desert camp, we drove to Fes, again making useful and interesting stops along the way. In Fes, we again had a local guide that took as, with Ali’s help, all around the city. Our add-on day trip was to Chefchouen (a picturesque town with everything painted blue), which was a lovely addition. Lodging: Every place we stayed was wonderful. We were constantly impressed with each Riad. Food: So much good food! And lots of bottled water. We loved trying tajine, kebab, grilled lamb cutlets cut fresh by the butcher, pastilla and lots of other unique dishes. Ali joined us for lunch a few times, which was great. Transportation: The van Ali drove was great, had very nice air-conditioning, and he kept us safe with some intense traffic. Overall, it was a magical trip made great by Ali and Morocco Joy Travel.

Our journey in Morocco was fantastic. The tour took us to many interesting places, making the trip enchanting. Surprisingly, even though the daily travels were longer than we thought, it didn't make us enjoy the trip any less. Maybe if we think about different places to stay and eat, it could make the experience better. We noticed that the quality and prices for tourists varied. Still, these small things didn't take away from the good memories of our journey.

Toubkal Trek (3 days)

Amazing trek! Definitely not easy but well worth. I went as a solo traveller with no issues. The first day was a little hike up a peak overlooking Imlil which was nice but could easily be skipped. Instead, I would spend that day going up Toubkal. I spent an extra night in the refuge because going up and down Toubkal in 2 days is quite intense, and I would recommend breaking it up (1 day ascent to refuge, 1 day up to Toubkal and back, 1 day return from refuge). Make sure you have hiking shoes too because it is steep, slippery and rocky. All the transport to and from Marrakech, food, water and accommodation was all sorted out provided without issue. My guide Ibrahim was an absolute legend and very nice, always looking out for me and willing to accommodate my wishes. Always felt safe and cared for.

Combined Morocco Tour -10 Days

The 10 days combined Morocco tour really fulfilled our expectations. Especially the four days trekking in the Atlas mountain was fantastic. We had a very experienced and knowledgably guide, Drisse, a very good cook, Hassan and a hardworking mule, Bhima that carried our luggage. The guide was very good in evaluating our fitness and adjusting our trekking route. We asked him to start early and stop early in the day. Thus, after a couple of hours rest, he found some short tours in the afternoon /evening for us. We inspected mineshafts, visited waterfalls and even went to a Berber carpet weaving studio and a Berber village. The cook was very good too. He made meals in the wilderness that were much better than what we later were eating in Moroccan restaurants. After the trekking part we had an excellent driver/guide, Hassan that was driving us around for the rest of the tour. We ended up in Fes. Our only comments to the itinerary of the tour were to drop the initially visit to the seaside town of Essaouira. Although a nice town, a seaside resort is much like any seaside resort. We would have liked to have more time in Fes which was a fantastic city. The Fes medina (old town) is the largest in Morocco. The narrow streets, alleys and dead ends made it very easy to get lost. We were there for a couple of days after the tour and rented a local guide for half a day. Had the tour included this instead of a visit to Essaouira the tour wold have been perfect.
