KIMBERLEY EXPEDITION CRUISES
Welcome to the otherworldly Kimberley. Tucked along the northwestern corner of Australia, the Kimberley is one of the world’s last wild frontiers, from rugged sandstone peaks and gushing waterfalls, to desert expanses, sunken mangrove forests, and everything in between. Cruise through Montgomery Reef as the tides rush out, leaving sea turtles dotting their heads in its midst. Search for a lustrous, masterfully cultivated pearl on a local pearl farm. Splash through the spray of King George Falls, or take to the skies in an amphibious Mallard aircraft to watch tawny sharks swim below. Better yet, engage with the original land-owning communities and their cultural rites, including guided showings of the unique Gwion Gwion artwork they have curated for centuries.
Crystal-clear waters and gleaming pearls aside, our Kimberely expeditions stand out to guests who want to travel Australia, but also desire to expedition off the beaten path. Whether you are a well-seasoned traveler, wildlife enthusiast, natural history buff, or are simply seeking a new adventure in one of the most pristine places on Earth, experience this unique corner of the world with Seabourn.
The Kimberley Expedition Port Highlights
Included Expedition Experience
King George Falls
Prepare for the highlight of your trip, cruising with our Expedition Team on a Zodiac® to explore the highest twin waterfalls in Western Australia. They will skillfully maneuver the canyon that the river carved nearly 2 billion years ago, flanked by mesmerizing sandstone cliffs, to the thundering 250-foot falls that will plunge into the waters in front of you.
This stop is full of beautiful, secluded beaches and tiny islands to explore. The real draw, though, is seeing the Gwion Gwion or Bradshaw rock art galleries that cover walls and caves in the area. Take a Zodiac® ride to Jar Island to see some of the oldest art in the world. Your Expedition Team will give you an interpretation of the drawings and a look at the fascinating history that accompanies them.
Contemplate the raw transformation of the world’s largest inshore reef as you witness it appear and dip beneath the surface in some of the biggest tidal changes on Earth. As you explore one of the ‘greatest natural wonders of the world’, you’ll search for incredible marine wildlife in their natural habitat from your Zodiac® – dolphins, octopuses, fish, reef sharks, turtles, sea snakes and more.
Talbot Bay Horizontal Waterfalls
Expect the unexpected amongst the spectacular rock formations and lush mangroves. Most waterfalls cascade vertically, but here tides push intense currents between narrow gorges to create a horizontal effect.
Featured Included Shore Excursions
Kuri Bay Pearl Farm
Traditional face painting ceremony, el questro park.
EXCLUSIVE BONUSES valued up to $1,190 (inc. 3 Free Nights PLUS a Tour AND a Dinner Voucher) with EVERY booking! See our Specials & Bonuses for details…
< back to mv great escape itineraries, mv great escape , luxury kimberley cruise, 7 night southern kimberley experience, broome to the mitchell plateau & vv (cruise/fly or fly/cruise).
The Southern Kimberley Experience is a 7 night Kimberley cruise that explores the best of the Kimberley Coast from Broome to the Mitchell Plateau, essentially half our 13 night Kimberley Classic Adventure itinerary. You will fly over the most spectacular scenic wilderness in the Southern Kimberley in a 4 seater light aircraft, to arrive at Mitchell Plateau in the heart of the Kimberley, or if you take the opposite direction you will depart from the Mitchell Plateau to fly back to Broome. From Mitchell Plateau you will be met by our helicopter pilot who will fly you over the stunning Mitchell Falls on the way to land aboard MV Great Escape in the beautiful Hunter River wilderness.
Day 1 – Broome Flying out of Broome over the magnificent Kimberley landscape, you’ll land in the Mitchell Plateau where our helicopter will then transfer you past the Mitchell Falls and onto your luxury vessel. Your crew will welcome you aboard and provide a light brunch before we set off for the Hunter River, an incredibly scenic waterway rich with fat barramundi, succulent mud crabs and castaway island beaches. We can either stay here and have a fire on the beach for sunset drinks or cruise over to historic Careening Bay.
Day 2 – Kings Cascade After visiting the Mermaid tree, we’ll cruise down through Saint George’s Basin to the mouth of the Prince Regent River and the infamous Kings Cascade. This is a stunning cruise that passes both Mount Trafalgar and Mount Waterloo. With luck, the tide will allow us the chance to drop a line for a spot of fishing. If not, we’ll cruise straight up to Kings Cascade where everyone will want to explore the amazing natural gardens, as well as the multitude of freshwater pools and falls. Your vessel will then depart for Camp Creek.
Day 3 – Camp Creek We’ll spend the morning fishing, or croc-spotting and generally exploring. After lunch, we’ll head down Camp Creek for a trek to a beautiful waterfall and swimming hole. Upon returning to the boat, we’ll cruise towards Camden Harbour where we’ll anchor up for the evening.
Day 4 – Camden Harbour Camden Harbour is steeped in history as the first attempted European settlement in the Kimberley. It failed dismally, and we’ll delve into that history as we explore the old settlement. Tide permitting, we’ll gather a sumptuous feast of Kimberley rock oysters and then cruise through Kuri Bay – the Kimberley’s first pearling settlement. We can then try our hand hunting for reef fish before spending the afternoon cruising down the coast to Langii, an Aboriginal Dreaming site. Here we’ll see the mystical ‘Petrified Warriors’ and spend time relaxing on the silicon beach, while the evening will be spent cruising to Doubtful Bay.
Day 5 & 6 – Montgomery Reef We’ll spend the next two days exploring waterfalls and fishing in such places such as the Sale River and Three Ways, with one evening spent under the magnificent Raft Point. Raising the anchor early, we’ll then take a quick cruise to Montgomery Reef, an unusual reef structure that creates spectacular cascading waterfalls in the middle of the ocean. This reef is also home to turtles, crocodiles and all kinds of aquatic life, which we’ll search for in the dinghies. Finally, we’ll spend the late afternoon cruising into Dugong Bay where we’ll anchor for the evening.
Day 7 – Buccaneer Archipelago We’ll start the morning with a scenic walk through a rainforest canopy trail to a stunning hidden rock pool for a refreshing dip. Here you’ll also have the opportunity to see the Horizontal Falls from the air or via tender if the tides are right. Back on the boat, we’ll cruise toward the Buccaneer Archipelago where we can stop over at Crocodile Creek for a swim and a barbeque lunch. In the afternoon we’ll cruise past Cape Leveque on our way back to Broome.
Day 8 – Broome After cruising all night, we’ll arrive at the Broome Jetty to disembark around 8:00am. Our friendly office staff will then organise a transfer to either your accommodation or the airport.
This itinerary is also available in reverse – cruising from Broome to the Mitchell Plateau and then flying back to Broome.
Please note: This is a typical itinerary and whilst your adventure will be similar to the one described here, tides will affect the itinerary. We plan each day according to the tides and often modify or rearrange the schedule to work in with Mother Nature.

10-DAY KIMBERLEY EXPEDITION: WATERFALLS & WINDJINAS
Construction for Seabourn Pursuit began in fall 2020 during a ceremony in San Giorgo di Nogare, Italy, and the build process is well underway. The ship is scheduled for delivery in February 2023, with its sister ship, Seabourn Venture, slated for delivery in March 2022.Seabourn Pursuit is the second Seabourn expedition ship slated to launch in February 2023. Both Seabourn Pursuit and sister ship Seabourn Venture are designed and built for diverse environments to PC6 Polar Class standards and include modern hardware and technology that will extend the ships’ global deployment and capabilities. Each will carry two custom-built submarines, 24 Zodiacs, kayaks, and a 26-person expert expedition team whose role is to engage guests throughout each voyage. The ship then continues onward by exploring the waters and landscapes of Greenland, Iceland and Norway throughout the spring and early summer, in some instances retracing the path of the Vikings to the frontier town of Tromso while carving its way through the inside passage of the Norwegian fjords along the way. A sure highlight for August 2023 is the ship’s Northwest Passage journey through some of the most remote areas in the Northern Hemisphere from Kangerlussuaq, Greenland to Nome, Alaska. Itineraries for the Seabourn Pursuit inaugural season are set to open for sale in mid-December 2021.

Embankments of Moscow
Moscow river boats 37 embankments, the most popular being Kremlevskaya, Sofiyskaya, Pushkinskaya, Vorobyovskaya and Kolomenskaya.

- Pushkinkaya embankment is the most romantic in Moscow. It meanders along Gorky Park and Neskuchnyi garden and is rich for all kinds of entertainment as well as cozy nooks, including Olivkovy beach, the famous Zeleny theater as well as a pier for river cruisers.
- Vorobyevskaya embankment is part of Sparrow Hills nature reserve. This place opens a beautiful panorama of the river and city from the observation deck and is considered to be the place for taking serious decisions in life.
- Embankment in Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve has a special charm due to its peculiar geographical relief. The boat trip around Kolomenskoye would be the most peaceful in your life.
- Taras Shevchenko embankment is popular among photographers for its modern Moscow City skyscrapers. Highly recommended for your night boat trip.
- Embankments of Moscow are the pride of the capital. A distinctive feature of each of the promenades is its architecture and beautiful views. In addition, almost all the embankments of Moscow have a rich history and a lot of notable buildings.
Taking a walk along the Moskva River by boat, you will witness the architecture of Moscow from different eras and styles. Archaeological studies indicate that already in the XI century there stood a fortified settlement on Borovitsky hill, which is now called the Kremlin. Little fortress could not accommodate all the residents of the rapidly growing city, and the Grand Duke ordered the construction of a new Kremlin, larger than the former.
Boat trip around Kolomenskoe Park
Moscow river boat trip starts from the pier Klenovy (Maple) Boulevard and provides reat views of Nicholas Perervinsky monastery.
Nicholas Perervinsky monastery was founded at the time of the Battle of Kulikov (1380). The monastery, got its name from the surrounding area – “Pererva”, which can be translated like “tear off” and because of the location – here it abruptly changed its course, turning to Kolomna, standing on the opposite bank.
Nowadays Kolomenskoye is State Art, Historical, Architectural and Natural Landscape Museum-Reserve, which doors are open to everyone who wants to get in touch with the ancient history of Russia.
Take a break from the big city hustle in the shady parks and gardens of the Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve. Don’t miss a wonderful Church of the Ascension and Tsar Alexey’s Palace in Kolomenskoye!
Monasteries and temples
- Novospassky Monastery
- Founded in the 13th century on the site where now is located the Danilovsky monastery. After a few decades, in 1330, Ivan Kalita moved the monastery onto the Borovitskii hill of the Kremlin. However, in the 15th century, Spassky Monastery again moved, this time to a more spacious place on Krasnoholmskaya waterfront.
- Church of St. Nicholas in Zayaitskom
- Erected in the middle of the XVIII century in baroque style. The building survived after the 1812 fire, but the utensils were destoyed. Parishioners collected donations and restored the temple on their own. In Soviet times, it was closed and re-opened only in 1992.
- Cathedral of Christ the Savior
- The church was originally erected in honor of the victory over Napoleon and was being under construction for long 44 years. Notoriously demolished in 1937 to be a giant swimming pool under open sky. The current building was constructed in 1990s. It is the tallest and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world.
- The temple was built in 1679-82, during the reign of Tsar Fedor Alekseevich, in late Muscovite Baroque style and can be characterized as bonfire temple. Each gable is a symbol of a heavenly fire.
- Novodevichy Convent
- The most famous concent and monastery in Moscow, presumably founded in 1524. Novodevichy’s status has always been high among other monasteries, it was in this monastery where the women of the royal blood, the wives of Tsars and local rulers of Moscow were kept in prison as nuns.
- St. Andrew’s church (male acts as Compound Patriarch of Moscow)
- St. Andrew’s church stands right on the slopes of the Sparrow Hills, on the way down to the Moskva River, on the territory of the Nature Reserve “Sparrow Hills”. The monastery is small in size but is very cozy. It’s situated in a quiet courtyard surrounded by temples, fruit trees and flowers.
