Cruises from Southampton in 2024, 2025 & 2026
It's so easy.
When a hassle-free holiday is at the top of your wish list, it makes sense to choose a cruise from Southampton.
Where can I travel to on a cruise from Southampton?
You’re spoilt for choice! Our cruises from Southampton take you to the Norwegian Fjords, the Med, Canary Islands, Spain & Portugal, the Caribbean, World Cruises, Short Breaks, South America, Northern Europe, as well as USA.
Norwegian Fjords
Many argue that the only way to truly appreciate the scenery of the Norwegian Fjords is to sail through them. We, of course, agree. Fjord cruises offer more than any land based experience ever could. Cruising through the deep-blue waters of Norway’s UNESCO-protected fjords is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Mediterranean
With beauty waiting at every stop, there’s plenty to explore. Famed for its art, architecture, cultures, cuisines, beaches and more – the Med is a holiday full of rich experiences and it's perfect for adults or families to experience together.
Short Breaks
A Short Break with us is a short break like no other. It's the perfect chance for a well-earned weekend away to explore great doorstep destinations, recharge the batteries and shake up the routine.
Canary Islands
Will you swim in the crystal-clear water off Lanzarote? Or don your hiking boots to explore Tenerife’s hidden lava tunnels? Perhaps you’ll enjoy the sunset while sipping a cocktail on lush La Palma. With so many full days ashore, you’ll have time to dive deep into these extraordinary islands.
Spain and Portugal
From peaceful landscapes to bustling cities, this region is all about diversity. Explore the winding cobbled streets of Lisbon’s Old Town by tuk-tuk or set off on a rafting adventure in the heart of the Galician countryside. With full days on offer in almost every destination, the possibilities are all yours.
Northern Europe and Scandinavia
Scandinavia is a playground of riches. Our Northern Europe and Scandinavia Cruise Holidays offer two weeks visiting capital cities, cultural masterpieces and lesser-known gems. City-hop from Helsinki to Tallinn, Stockholm and Copenhagen – all on one holiday.
USA and Canada
The USA is rich with history and abundant with natural beauty. Each port offers a unique and special experience. New England is a beautiful and distinctly American region, there are spectacular sandy beaches, mansions, vineyards and marinas, alongside such historical sites as Boston, the birthplace of the American Revolution.
Immerse yourself in the colours and cultures of each captivating island. The Caribbean epitomises idyllic holidays: white sand, crystal-clear waters, swaying palm trees. But there’s plenty more to see beyond the blissful beachfronts. On a P&O Cruises Caribbean holiday, you can get to the heart of each colourful island.
Travelling, but not as you know it
Because getting there is half the fun...

Southampton has a unique personality and atmosphere. Its maritime heritage stretches back beyond Tudor times, and it is now well known for ocean yacht racing, watersports and leisure sailing. It’s also one of the UK’s most important trade and cruise ports. The city was also one of four shortlisted for the UK City of Culture 2025.
You’re in luck. Yes, there is. Calshot Beach is a shingle beach at the westerly corner of Southampton Water, just opposite the Weston Shore. Here, you can see ships entering and leaving port, and there a few watersports options in warmer months.
Southampton’s weather is generally milder than most parts of the UK. It has to be said though, that, much like anywhere in the UK, anything can happen, weather-wise. That said, summer is usually warm and comfortable, whilst winters can be cold and windy.
Like all great UK cities, Southampton is awash with shops of all types and sizes, from all the usual high street, big name brands, to smaller, specialist boutique stores. But if you’re looking for shopping (food, fashion, tech and so much more), head for Westquay shopping Centre – just minutes from the terminal – where everything, including a food hall, is under one roof.
Southampton is one of the UK’s great maritime cities. So, why not visit SeaCity Museum for a closer look at the city’s seafaring past if you have a day to spare. Or why not head for the Tudor House and Garden (a Tudor period home, carefully preserved and restored). There’s also the Solent Sky Museum for fans of military aviation. And for theatre lovers, if you have the time, why not take in a show at the famous Mayflower Theatre?

Cruises from Southampton (2024)
Welcome to our guide for all the MSC Cruises departing from Southampton in 2024!
January 2024
January kicks off with MSC Euribia returning from her NYE cruise and embarking on a fantastic 21-night Winter Sun voyage to Northern Europe and the Canary Islands! It includes calls at ports which include Hamburg, Rotterdam, La Coruna, Lisbon, Cadiz and Casablanca before enjoying favourites such as Lanzarote, Tenerife and Funchal! Truly an epic voyage if you fancy escaping the January blues!
On her return, MSC Euribia will continue her Northern Europe itinerary with a 7-night roundtrip voyage to Hamburg and other great Northern ports.
February 2024
The darker nights will still be with us during February, so this is the time to get yourself a little week away of all-inclusive luxury!
You’ll be able to enjoy one of four 7-night voyages from Southampton on MSC Euribia this month. Explore some of Europe’s most interesting port cities during the quieter seasons and find those hidden gems!
As the nights get a little brighter and the temperatures slowly creep up – you can enjoy a pre-Spring voyage on MSC Euribia before she wraps up her season next month!
You’ll have a choice of five 7-night departure dates in March to sail from Southampton – why not try a back-to-back? You automatically get 10% off your second cruise (aside from our discounts and any MSC Voyager Club discounts too!)
This is also a great time of year to visit Brugges – it isn’t too busy, but everything is certainly open!
As we head into Spring, MSC Euribia will wrap up her first season in the UK and head off to Copenhagen on a Grand Voyage – but not before one extended 11-night voyage to France and Spain, departing on the 12th of April – with visits to La Rochelle and Bilbao included (both Maiden Calls for her!)
Then one of our favourites is back – MSC Virtuosa ! She will complete her MSC Grand Voyage from Dubai and arrive in Southampton on the 22nd of April 2024.
She will immediately conduct a 12-night voyage to the Canary Islands – which will see the start of her Summer 2024 season from the UK – her fourth year sailing from Southampton due to popular demand!
MSC Virtuosa ramps up her sailings in May with seven voyages throughout the month – lots of opportunities to get yourself onboard for at least one sailing!
They include two 7-night voyages to Norway (11th and 18th) sandwiched between five mini-cruises! This gives everyone (is there anyone?) who hasn’t tried MSC Virtuosa yet – a perfect shot at enjoying what makes this MSC ship so popular (even over just a couple of nights!)
The mini-cruises will call at destinations such as Guernsey, Rotterdam and Cork!
Just like in 2023, MSC Virtuosa will start the month of June with a two-week voyage to Iceland and Norway – ideal if you love incredibly scenic cruises and prefer some cooler temperatures compared to the Mediterranean!
On her return, she will revisit Norway. This time, for just seven nights and then head the opposite direction for a 7-night France & Spain itinerary before finishing the month off with a 14-night Mediterranean voyage, calling at wonderful ports such as Lisbon, Malaga, Alicante and Barcelona!
July is taken up with two more back-to-back 14-night Mediterranean voyages – so if you missed the June one, you’ve still got a great opportunity to see what others loved just a fortnight earlier!
These cruises are super-popular during the school holidays. They are ideal for families who want to explore a little but enjoy being surrounded by fantastic food, drink and great service!
August 2024
As we head into August, MSC Virtuosa will head straight to the Canary Islands for 12 nights after returning to Southampton from her previous Mediterranean escape.
On her return, she will squeeze in a short 2-night mini-cruise (to Guernsey) before sailing two back-to-back 7-night voyages to Norway – her final visits to this beautiful part of the world in 2024.
September 2024
As we head into September and things start cooling off at home, MSC Virtuosa is ready to keep you in the sun! First, she will sail to the Canary Islands on an extended 14-night voyage before performing two mini-cruises (3 and 4 nights).
Next, she will sail to the Mediterranean for the last time this year on a 14-night voyage, taking in the sights of such ports as Lisbon, Cadiz, Valencia and Palma (Mallorca).
October 2024

The Beautiful History Of Cruises Over Time
Posted: January 7, 2024 | Last updated: January 7, 2024
Sailing through time
1830s: the very beginnings
1840s: the first pleasure cruises
1840s: a landmark in cruise-line history
1850–60s: early developments
Passenger cruising continued to develop through the mid-19th century, with luxuries like on-board lounges and simple entertainment emerging. Shown here, in 1856, is Cunard's RMS Persia, one of the largest ships of her time and an early Blue Riband winner (an award given for high-speed Atlantic crossings).
1870s: the New World
1880s: lighting up the ocean
1890s: “floating palaces”
1900s: entering cruising’s golden age
At the turn of the century, there was still a frisson around cruising and large, buzzy crowds would often gather to see off the ships. This nostalgic photograph was snapped between 1900 and 1915, and shows large steam boats leaving from the White Star Line dock in Detroit, Michigan. Well-dressed passengers fill the ships' upper and lower decks too.
1900s: the first purpose-built cruise ship
1910s: onboard entertainment
1910s: the Titanic disaster
One of the most famous and devastating events in cruise history occurred in this decade. Dubbed "unsinkable" by the White Star Line's vice-president, the Titanic set out from Southampton on her maiden voyage on 10 April 1912 to much applause. But just four days later, she collided with an iceberg in the North Atlantic: the compartments in her hull filled with water and she tragically sank. The disaster claimed the lives of more than 1,500 people.
1910s: First World War
1920s: cruising’s golden age continued
1920s: setting the bar high
1920s: a festive feast
1920s: the first round-the-world cruise
Another major milestone came in the 1920s: the very first round-the-world cruise. The Cunard Line's RMS Laconia (pictured here leaving Liverpool circa 1920) sailed around the globe in 1922, calling at 22 ports along the way, and taking 450 lucky passengers with her.
1930s: all games on deck
1930s: making a splash
1940s: post-war cruising
1950s: the post-war decades
Come the 1950s, cruise ships had another phenomenon to compete with: jet planes. Commercial air travel boomed in this decade, with comfier aircraft and improved routes enticing travelers into the skies. Many cruise liners underwent swish post-war refits in an attempt to stay afloat: this 1950s photo shows the opulent dining room of French liner SS Île de France after a dramatic post-war makeover.
1950s: going Down Under
1950s: the Blue Riband record breaker
Though formalized in the 1930s, the Blue Riband – the award for the passenger cruise liner with the fastest Atlantic-crossing time – has its roots right back in the 19th century. The record is still held by SS United States of United States Lines, which first sped across the Atlantic in 1952. She's pictured here on 9 July 1952, docking in Southampton.
1960s: the Jet Age
1970s: The Love Boat
As flying became more commonplace, the popularity of cruising looked set to dwindle. However, one particular TV series is often credited with keeping travelers' passion for cruising alive. The Love Boat – aired from the 1970s – was a comedy series that followed the crew and passengers of luxury liner SS Pacific Princess. Such was its popularity, some say it brought cruising back into the mainstream once more. This shot shows Cunard Line's Queen Elizabeth 2 in 1975.
1970s: cruising opens up to the masses
1980s: the cruise to nowhere
The 1980s is thought to be the decade that pioneered the "cruise to nowhere," where the ship really was the destination. The SS Norway (pictured) – a lavish mega ship with room for thousands of passengers and amenities like a casino – embarked on a no-docking cruise in this decade.
1990s: Disney takes to the water
2000s: making waves in the modern world
The 2000s saw larger-than-life, no-expense-spared, mega cruise ships sail onto the scene. This sunset snap shows Cunard Line's Queen Mary II as she completes her first trans-Atlantic voyage in January 2004. At this time, she was the largest and most expensive cruise ship ever constructed with room for 2,200-plus passengers, a theater and even a planetarium, setting the bar for the ships of posterity.
2010s: bigger, better and healthier
2020s: off to a rocky start
The 2020s got off to an eventful start. The COVID-19 pandemic halted almost all cruises, with some passengers and crew marooned onboard while testing and entry protocols were debated. In 2021 rife cancellations, last-minute border changes and variant outbreaks persisted. However, the years since have indicated a return to pre-pandemic popularity, with 300 cruise ships departing in April 2022 – pretty impressive compared to just 22 departing in April 2021. Cruise lines have incorporated more health and safety protocols, such as advising passengers to control their TV, light and temperature via an app instead of touchpoints.

St Petersburg is a port city in Florida USA (Pinellas County) with population around 260,000. The Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metro by population (around 3,2 million) is Florida's second-largest - after Miami - Fort Lauderdale - West Palm Beach Metro (around 6,14 million). The city is on the Mexican Gulf and is one of the Tampa Bay Area's main cities - together with Tampa and Clearwater.
Port St Petersburg Harbor (1925-opened) is in downtown, and adjacent to two boats/yachts serving facilities - Municipal Marina and Harborage Marina (Bayboro Harbor). The Port houses the USCG Sector St Petersburg and serves mainly passenger ships - ferries (Cross-Bay Ferry boats), superyachts, cruise ships.
Cross-Bay ferries serve the Tampa-St Petersburg route seasonally (October-November thru May) since 2016.
- In Tampa, the boats depart from Tampa Convention Center's dock, while in St Petersburg, they leave from North Straub Park's dock (near Vinoy Marina).
- Departures from St Petersburg are on Wednesdays and Thursdays (at 4:45 pm), on Fridays and Saturdays (at 10 am), and on Sundays (at 11 am).
- Departures from Tampa are on Wednesdays and Thursdays (at 10:45 pm), on Fridays and Saturdays (at 11 pm) and on Sundays (at 7:30 pm).
- As of 2023, Cross-Bay Ferry adult ticket prices were US$12 pp per one-way crossing. Youths, college students, seniors, people with disabilities and active/retired military personnel receive discounted tickets.
- In 2022, on the Tampa-Petersburg route was deployed the twin-hull catamaran Provincetown III (2004-built, IMO 9329394) which has max passenger capacity 149 and average speed 30 mph/50 kph.
The Cross-Bay ferry service is a public-private partnership between the counties Pinellas and Hillsborough and HMS Ferries Inc (part of HMS Global Maritime (1994-founded as Hornblower Marine Services, based in New Albany, Indiana).
As cruise port, St Petersburg Florida was introduced with the 2023 schedule of the ACL-American Cruise Lines catamaran ship American Glory .
Next table shows the 21-night/22-day "Complete Southeast" itinerary from Baltimore to St Petersburg. Prices started from US$ 17260 per person with double occupancy.
As cruise port, Saint Petersburg is also included in the ACL's itinerary "Florida Gulf Coast & Keys" (7-night/8-day roundtrip from St Petersburg).
Prices started from US6010 pp with double occupancy.
The settlement was town-incorporated in 1892 and city-incorporated in 1903. As a harbor port, St Petersburg started to grow in the early-20th-century when the downtown waterfront infrastructure was developed, and especially after 1908 when the shipping channel was dredged/deepened allowing access to larger vessels. The city's tourism industry developed in the 1920s-1930s, with seasonal tourists arriving (by cars, trains and yachts) from Canada and the North-Midwest USA.
St Petersburg was the principal Gulf Coast destination for trains serving the routes from Chicago, Cincinnati and New York. The 1924-opened Gandy Bridge (carrying highway 92) and the 1960-opened Howard Frankland Bridge (carrying highway I-275) both span Old Tampa Bay and directly connect St Petersburg to Tampa.
The city's current-day economy is largely based on industries like finances (Raymond James Financial, Fidelity National Information Services), healthcare (Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, St Anthony's Hospital, Bayfront Health), retail shopping (HSN, Publix Super Markets), electronics manufacturing (Jabil), communications, private and higher education, tourism (annual festivals, parades, museums, arts, sports).

Video shows Coast Guard rescuing pregnant woman from Disney cruise
A pregnant passenger aboard Disney Fantasy had to be airlifted from the cruise ship after experiencing health complications.
The U.S. Coast Guard said the cruise line requested medevac services with its San Juan, Puerto Rico, sector Monday morning due to the 35-year-old woman requiring "a higher level of medical care ashore." Soon after, a Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft from Miami made their way toward the ship's spot in the Atlantic Ocean, 180 miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
Video shows the aircraft approaching above the ship before a rescuer lowers down onto it by rope. The Coast Guard said that was the Jayhawk crew's "rescue swimmer," who prepared a "rescue basket and litter to safely hoist the patient and cruise ship doctor" aboard the chopper.
Seven people can be seen in the footage carrying the patient on a stretcher toward an area where one team member attached her and the cot to a hanging rope. She was then lifted to the helicopter door and brought safely inside.
Emergency medical personnel local to San Juan, Puerto Rico, met the Coast Guard aircrew and the patient at the city's Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport, then transported the woman to a local hospital, the military body said.

"Our crew was able to quickly, safely and efficiently execute a long-range MEDEVAC for the patient to receive the higher level of care she required," said Lt. Cmdr. Todd Stephens. "This case demonstrates the value of good crew resource management and the capabilities of our Jayhawk helicopter."
"The competency displayed by the Disney Fantasy crew and the Coast Guard personnel and units involved made all the difference," said Ensign Michael Riccio, Coast Guard Sector San Juan operations unit leader for the case.
The woman's name and the reason for her medical emergency were not made clear as of Tuesday evening.
Disney Cruise Lines' website states it has a doctor and nurse on call 24/7 in the event of medical emergencies onboard, while a daily clinic is available for non-emergent care.
It also says pregnant women are permitted to sail with the company, but those who are past their 24th week or who will enter their 24th week during the voyage cannot be permitted passage due to safety concerns.
"Neither a doctor's medical statement nor a waiver of liability will be accepted," the website states. "In addition, Disney Cruise Line cannot be held responsible or liable for any complications relating to pregnancy at any stage."
