Home : Poker News : Ren Lin Victorious In World Poker Tour Alpha 8 at Wynn Las Vegas

world poker tour results

Nine of the ten largest scores on Ren Lin’s poker tournament resume have been recorded in 2023. His most recent is also his biggest, as Lin took down the 2023 WPT Alpha8 at Wynn Las Vegas $50,000 buy-in high roller event for a career-best $1,045,781 payday.

Lin outlasted a 69-entry field in the high-stakes affair to lock up his first seven-figure cash and his third title of the year. He also earned 612 Card Player Player of the Year points for his third title and 26th final-table finish of the year. With 9,380 total points and more than $5.9 million in POY earnings, Lin is now the fifth-ranked player in the POY standings presented by Global Poker.

Lin was one of nine players who cashed in this high-roller event, with more than $3.3 million in total prize money awarded. The second and final day of the tournament began with 13 contenders remaining.

Brad Owen

Brad Owen was playing a $50,000 buy-in event for the first time in this tournament. The WPT ambassador and popular poker vlogger managed to survive to the final table, but ultimately bowed out in seventh place after losing most of his stack with pocket tens against the pocket kings of two-time bracelet winner Martin Kabrhel. It was the largest tournament score yet for Owen, who now has $868,000 in career scores.

After Nikita Kuznetsov (6th – $192,424) and WPT champion Seth Davies (5th – $249,314) were sent packing, Lin doubled up with A-3 besting the A-10 of Biao Ding. He got short again during four-handed play, but found another double with a full house to restore the health of his stack.

Lin then won a key flip with Q-10 outrunning the pocket fours of Ding. Lin flopped a queen and held from there to eliminate Ding in fourth place ($334,650). This was the 18th final table of the year for the Chinese player. He climbed to 18th in the POY standings as a result of this latest deep run.

Jason Koon

Koon cashed for $669,300. This was his 18th final table of the year, with six titles won. His 8,592 POY points put him in eighth place in the standings with the end of the year rapidly approaching.

Here is a look at the payouts and POY points awarded at the final table:

World Series of Poker Announces 2022 Daily Event Schedule

Poker's flagship event moving to the strip at bally’s and paris las vegas may 31 – july 20.

LAS VEGAS (February 23, 2022) --- The 53rd World Series of Poker® (WSOP®) – the richest, most prestigious and longest-running poker series – today announced the daily event schedule for 2022. Following a successful 17-year run at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, the WSOP moves to the Las Vegas Strip for the very first time at Bally’s, the future Horseshoe, and Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, and will feature the WSOP’s inaugural Master of Ceremonies, Vince Vaughn.

The move to the Strip builds upon the legacy for Caesars Entertainment’s World Series of Poker, as the first-ever tournament was played at Las Vegas’ original Horseshoe in 1970. Doors open on Tuesday, May 31 with exciting action through the event's conclusion on Wednesday, July 20.

"This year is particularly historic for the WSOP with its move to the heart of the Las Vegas Strip and debut in the best facilities we’ve ever had," said Ty Stewart, the WSOP's Executive Director residing over his 17th WSOP. "We’re ready to welcome players from all over the world to our housewarming party at Bally’s, soon-to-be Horseshoe, and Paris. The schedule is jam-packed with first-class events and we expect this to be the biggest and most anticipated WSOP yet.”

WSOP will again feature the much-anticipated $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em World Championship, also known as the "Main Event", which in 2021 hosted 6,650 entrants from around the world despite taking place during a pandemic. This year’s Main Event is back to its traditional time frame around the July 4 holiday, beginning on Sunday, July 3. The legendary deep-stack tournament will continue play through the Final Table on Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16.

The WSOP’s new home will include all convention space at both Paris Las Vegas and Bally’s. This will create the largest tournament capacity in the event’s history with over 200,000 square feet and 600 poker tables. The 2022 WSOP will host a wide variety of tournaments ranging in price from $400 to $250,000. The main cage will be placed at Paris Las Vegas while the TV set staging will be in the Bally’s Event Center as the two buildings are connected and share a parking garage.

This year’s tournament will also feature a $5,000,000 guaranteed prize pool WSOP opening weekend dubbed “The Housewarming”, featuring a $500 buy-in. This popular price point for the opening weekend has generated some of the largest field sizes in the history of poker. Last year’s “Reunion” event generated a whopping 12,973 entrants and organizers are expecting an even larger field as the event returns to its traditional summer schedule.

WSOP will work with broadcast partner CBS Sports for a second season of coverage with daily streaming on PokerGo. Produced exclusively by Poker Central, there will be 18 different bracelet events to be televised with a minimum of 15 hours of coverage for the 2022 Main Event.

When booking early, entrants of the WSOP bracelet events can enjoy reduced hotel room rates at Bally’s and Paris, as well as all Caesars Entertainment resorts in Las Vegas by using the special advanced booking code "WSOP22". Rates are based on availability and are subject to change. To view a complete list of rates across all Caesars Entertainment properties, please visit our Reservations page.

Schedule highlights below. To view the entire gold bracelet schedule, please visit WSOP 2022 Schedule where a downloadable version is provided.

Each participating player will have a bounty corresponding to the year they were inducted into poker's most exclusive club and the 2022 PHOF inductee will be announced.

Key Operational Notes

COVID-19/Vaccination: The WSOP will follow local, state and CDC guidelines relating to COVID-19 that are in effect during the event. While there will be no vaccination requirement to play in the tournament, players will be accountable to follow CDC guidelines appropriate to them as individuals. Based on current state guidelines masks will not be required.

Online Registration: To avoid queues and congestion, WSOP encourages players to utilize the online/mobile registration process to sign-up for events, allowing players to register and pay online. WSOP uses www.BravoPokerLive.com to manage online/mobile registrations. Players who register online will need to visit the Champagne Ballroom located in the Le Centre Des Conventions at Paris Las Vegas and have their identification validated. Once verified, players can simply pick event(s) online via Bravo, utilize the self-service kiosks located throughout the Paris and Bally’s convention centers to print their seat cards, and go directly to their table. Registration will open in May. WSOP will announce to the public when it is live.

In-Person Registration: The main registration area will be located in the Champagne Ballroom with more stations added to both the main registration and VIP cages. Hours of operation begin Tuesday, May 31 at 9:00 a.m. and will remain open 24 hours a day non-stop through Sunday, July 17. Guests are required to present valid photo identification, along with their Caesars Rewards card and payment to enter events.

Caesars Rewards (CR): The location will be in the Champagne Ballroom near the main and VIP registration cages for players to obtain loyalty cards. Caesars Rewards kiosks will also be available for players to reprint their card without having to visit a CR representative.

Additional fees will be incurred on all ACH/credit/debit card transactions. Participants using credit/debit cards must have a valid ID that matches the cardholder’s name present on the credit card used for the transaction.

What to Watch for at WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown

The 2024 world poker tour seminole hard rock poker showdown kicks off its 13th time as a wpt main tour stop on friday, so here’s a little history lesson about one of the most prolific events in tour history..

world poker tour results

After popping in and out of the Port of Miami for WPT Voyage , the World Poker Tour returns to Florida for one of its signature events – the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown in Hollywood, Florida . The history of the WPT at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood dates back over a decade, to Season IX, with the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown debuting in May 2011.

Since becoming a WPT stop back in 2012, the WPT SHRPS has returned each calendar year (except for 2020), making it one of the longest-running active events on the tour today. It’s also been one of the most consistently lucrative stops on tour, with six of the 12 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown champions banking at least $1 million for their respective wins.

The 2024 edition of the WPT SHRPS kicks off Friday, April 19 with Day 1A, followed by Day 1B on Saturday, April 20. The field will combine on Day 2 Sunday, and play through Day 4 on Tuesday until a final table of six has been locked in. The event will be paused at that point, with the final table set to be filmed in late May in Las Vegas.

With so much rich history surrounding this event, it feels only right to reflect ahead of the 13th edition of the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown.

One Year Since Bin Weng Kicked His Career into High Gear

At the outset of the 2024 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown, Bin Weng is the No. 1 tournament poker player in the world according to the Global Poker Index rankings. One year ago, Weng was starting to put together a career year with a $1 million win at Borgata and a WSOP Circuit Main Event title over the first few months of 2023.

But that was only the beginning.

Weng flew down to Florida and started logging cashes from Event 1 of the prelims at SHRPS, and by the time the series was over, he’d secure his place at the WPT televised final table. He’d already punched his ticket to the TV tapings in Las Vegas, and then just one week later made his way to Oklahoma to do it all over again. Weng booked another final table spot for WPT Choctaw, and set himself up to play for WPT titles on back-to-back days as he looked to make history .

The first night at HyperX in Las Vegas netted Weng the 2023 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown title and $1,128,250 . And while his second shot at a title came up short in fourth place, Weng was on his way to supercharging the rest of his year.

He went on to win over $2.2 million that July at the WPT EveryOne for One Drop at Wynn Las Vegas, and then capped it all off by chopping the $25,300 High Roller during the WPT World Championship festival. There were a few more players to sweat out, but Weng ultimately locked up 2023 WPT Player of the Year honors as well.

Brian Altman Chasing WPT History at a Friendly Venue

No individual tournament poker player has had more success at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood than Brian Altman. The three-time WPT champion won two WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open titles, in 2015 and 2020 (as well as his third WPT title at the sister property in Tampa in 2021), and also holds the No. 1 spot on the all-time money list for tournaments held on the property.

Altman is the most recent addition to the three-time WPT champions club, and as everyone chases down Darren Elias’ current record of four WPT titles, Altman figures to be a player to watch once the 2024 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown kicks off on Friday.

Checking in on SHRPS 2024 Prelim Action

In the lead-up to every WPT Main Tour Stop at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, a month-long festival of events brings out some of the biggest names in poker and generates tremendous stories (and prizes) along the way.

WPT Champions Club member Chance Kornuth took down a $10,000 Heads Up event earlier this week, defeating Scott Baumstein to seal the deal. Along the way, Kornuth defeated Landon Tice in the semifinals and managed an icy slowroll to his friend on his way to victory .

The biggest story coming out of the prelim events was that of Ryan Hoenig. His run of form started inauspiciously enough with a sixth-place finish in a $600 Omaha Hi-Lo event on April 5. Two days later, it was fifth in an $1,100 No Limit Hold’em tournament. But that’s when the real fun started.

Ryan Hoenig is having the best week ever! Last night, he won the $600 Badugi for his third trophy in three straight nights. The two days before that? He went back-to-back with second-place finishes. In his last five nights, two runner-up and three trophies. Insane heater! pic.twitter.com/lQcykYhcI6 — Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open (@shrpo) April 14, 2024

Hoenig put together back-to-back runner-up finishes on April 9th and 10th, but that was still just the beginning. Hoenig ran off three consecutive victories on the next three nights, from April 11 to April 13 in three different mixed game formats. If he hasn’t used up every ounce of his run-good, Hoenig will be a player to watch for in the Championship Event field.

To the surprise of few who follow tournament results, Ari Engel recorded two titles himself during the SHRPS festival. Two-time 2023 WSOP bracelet winner Brian Yoon picked up a $10,000 No Limit Hold’em title in one of the biggest buy-in events of the festival as well.

Jamie Geraghty helped himself to a career-best score of £30,610 by becoming the champion of the 888poker LIVE UK Poker League (UKPL) Manchester Main Even t over the weekend. The bumper prize is Geraghty's second live five-figure score, his previous stemming from a fifth place finish in another 888poker-run event in October 2021.

Although most of Geraghty's live scores stem from grinding in his native Scotland, his journeys south of the border have resulted in some impressive results, not least this £30,610 payday in Manchester.

The £560 buy-in 888poker LIVE UKPL Manchester Main Event attracted 328 entrants, including some of the UK's best-known players. Matthew Davenport , Christopher Johnson , Alex Montgomery , Leo Worthington-Leese , and David Gee were among the top 50 players who saw a return on their investments.

Geraghty drew first blood at the final table when his ace-jack found an ace on the flop to crack Boyuan Xue's pocket jacks, sending Xue to the cashier's desk.

Hongting Xu fell in eighth when his ten-nine failed to get there against Joshua Radley's pocket deuces despite flopping a straight draw. Xu dusted himself down, entered the £200 Closer, and took it down for £2,560.

Seventh place and £4,350 when to Abulkadir Ahmed, whose king-queen couldn't get there against Radley's pocket sevens before the tournament became an all-male affair when Cassandra Yong's king-jack couldn't find a jack, and lost to the dominating ace-king of Geraghty.

The final five became four after Stuart Sefton got put through the ringer. Sefton's last ten big blinds went into the middle with pocket nines only to run into Radley's aces. A nine on the flop looked to have rescued Sefton but what the Poker Gods giveth, they also taketh, and an ace landed on the turn to send him to the rail.

Gambling Aware

Bo Le finally ran out of steam in fourth, busting at the hands of Radley.

Although he finished third, James Dean Heckle enjoyed the best ROI of any of the UKPL Manchester Main Event players. Heckle won a seat online at 888poker, having only spent $12.80 doing so, and navigated his way to a third-place finish worth £16,170. Heckle's exit hand saw him open-shove from the small blind with king-six and fail to get there against Geraghty's pocket jacks. Amazingly, this was Heckle's first-ever live poker tournament and only the second time he had played poker in a live setting; what a way to announce your arrival!

The heads-up stack sizes were almost level at the start, so everything was to play for. Geraghty got the better of the early confrontations and began forging a lead for himself. The final hand essentially played itself because Radley looked down at ace-ten of hearts and his ten big blind stack, and Geraghty held ace-jack of diamonds! As you may have expected, Radley got his chips into the middle. Radley picked up a flush draw on the turn, but a brick on the river resigned him to a second-place finish and left Geraghty to be crowned the 2024 UKPL Manchester Main Event champion.

Dan Charlton

Dan Charlton was another big winner during the 2024 UKPL Manchester festival. Fresh from taking down the WSOPC UK Main Event for £73,295 last month, Charlton made the trip to Manchester, bought into the £250 Opening Voyage , and walked away with another trophy and £15,260 in prize money.

Andrew Hulme

Andrew "stato_1" Hulme was another grinder who captured a five-figure score and trophy, banking £24,015 after triumphing in the £1,100 High Roller . Hulme defeated 888poker ambassador Ian Simpson heads-up, leaving Simpson to console himself with a £15,760 consolation prize.

The 888poker UKPL is heading on a hiatus until late August, returning on August 27 with the Leeds leg of the fledgling tour. UKPL Leeds runs from August 27 to September 1, and is followed by UKPL London (September 24-29) and finally UKPL Coventry (October 10-21).

Win yourself a UKPL Passport online at 888poker from only a few cents.

Here's how the 888poker LIVE UKPL Manchester festival panned out.
