IN THIS MOMENT 's eighth studio album, "Godmode" , was released in October via BMG .

Asked how the new LP is different from the band's previous efforts, guitarist Chris Howorth told Razor of the Tucson, Arizona radio station Rock 102.1 KFMA : "It differs in a lot of ways. One big way is the fact that COVID happened and we had this break to actually organically come up with ideas versus having to, 'Oh, gosh. We have an album coming up. We have to do this right now,' and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and just forcing ourselves to do music if maybe we didn't really feel it at the time or whatever. We had the time to come up with the music and the ideas for 'Godmode' [while we were off the road]. So that's hugely different from all of our other things in the past. And then also what happened was our producer that we normally work with, Kevin Churko , we've been working with him for every album we've done except our first one and 'Godmode' . We ended up hiring his son Kane , and Kane has worked with us on all of our big songs and all of our albums, but he's kind of been under his dad's wing and under the radar and so him in [the studio with us] is a fresh energy as well and he's hungry to prove that he's a kickass, badass producer and he knows working with us is gonna be different and huge for him. And just that whole energy together with our energy made this completely different."

Added IN THIS MOMENT singer Maria Brink : "I think Chris just said it mostly, but, yeah, it was everything that we had experienced going into… We were writing from this place where me and Chris really were meshing; everything he was sending me I was loving. Me and Chris have been known to go back and forth as far as maybe we're not in the same place emotionally when we go into an album and we've been known to butt heads here and there, where this was, like, everything he was sending me, I was, like, 'Oh my God. I love this. This is amazing.' Everything was just… unfolded…. I couldn't have asked for a better way. Same with Kane and working with Tyler Bates and just all the different things that were coming to life for the album. And definitely it's heavier. I was going into this in a more emotional, visceral, kind of wanting to release a bunch of built up pressure inside of me. So I think people definitely are gonna hear that in the album. I haven't been this excited for one of our albums in a really long time, so I'm excited for the world to hear [it]."

"Godmode" was recorded at Hideout Recording Studio in Las Vegas, Nevada with producers Kane Churko ( OZZY OSBOURNE , PAPA ROACH , FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH ) and Tyler Bates ( "John Wick" movies, Jerry Cantrell , BUSH ).

In July 2023, IN THIS MOMENT released the first single from "Godmode" , a song called "The Purge" , along with an official music video directed by Jensen Noen ( ICE NINE KILLS , FALLING IN REVERSE , HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD ). A month later, IN THIS MOMENT shared the official visualizer for the "Godmode" title track.

IN THIS MOMENT debuted "Sacrifice" and "The Purge" at the opening concert of "The Dark Horizon Tour" on July 8, 2023 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

IN THIS MOMENT was joined on "The Dark Horizon Tour" by co-headliners MOTIONLESS IN WHITE , along with special guests FIT FOR A KING and FROM ASHES TO NEW . The trek, which saw IN THIS MOMENT and MOTIONLESS IN WHITE alternating closing sets each night, wrapped with an August 19 performance at MVP Arena in Albany, New York.

Last November, IN THIS MOMENT embarked on the co-headline "Kiss Of Death" tour with ICE NINE KILLS . The 20-date tour kicked off on November 3 at Hard Rock Live in Gary, Indiana, making stops across the U.S. in Cincinnati, Atlanta, Orlando and more before the final show in Washington, D.C. at The Anthem on November 28.

In October 2022, IN THIS MOMENT released an EP called "Blood 1983" . The effort commemorated the tenth anniversary of IN THIS MOMENT 's gold-certified album "Blood" (2012) and was made available digitally across all digital service providers as well as CD via BMG .

"Blood 1983" was co-produced by Tyler Bates and Dan Haigh , and mixed by Zakk Cervini .

IN THIS MOMENT is Brink , Howorth , Travis Johnson (bass), Randy Weitzel (rhythm guitar), Kent Dimmel (drums).

In This Moment... an alternative metalcore band spawning right out of the New York State capital, Albany. They have been a band since 2005, crafting an equilibrium of heavy and melodic metal music, using formulaic the popular structure of heavy verses into melodic choruses.

It was when charismatic front lady, Maria Brink and her right hand man, Chris Howorth met through friends, realizing that they have some similar tastes in music, that the dynamic duo began writing songs. They completed their line up adding Jeff Fabb on drums, Blake Bunzell on guitar and Josh Newell on the bass. They are one of those bands that strategically used MySpace as their platform, uploading demos and building up their following exponentially, which ultimately led to a worldwide record deal with Century Media Records.

It was with Century Media Records that they recorded a slew of albums, and by the third, “A Star-Crossed Wasteland” they were an international hit, with their album peaking at #40 in the US Hot 100 Charts. Their fourth album, “Blood” was even bigger, making it to #15 in both US and Canada. The title track from this album has amassed 11.8 million views on YouTube, not a bad accomplishment for a metal band.

They’re an intriguing gift-wrapped metalcore band that has cracked the code on success whilst maintaining their dignity and musicality along the way. The musicality behind what they’re doing is so complex, but it’s counterbalanced with passion and drive, and you can see this in their music videos and their live shows.

Live reviews

LA Show 10/18 was just aweful. It was so disconnected and uninspiring that Maria kept begging the crowd to cheer. Please allow me to elaborate. I went way out of my way to see this show, as ITM is in the top 5 on my playlist, and has been for several years. I'm a big fan of this type of music and between ITM and Lacuna Coil (a fantastic rock show btw), I'm not easily turned off by a performance as long as the band does their best. I very rarely write reviews about anything at all, but I feel the need to do so for this show as it might help someone not waste time and money as I did, and also I suppose there is a glimmer of hope that the band will read it and make some adjustments to the show. Also, I couldn't find any specific reviews about what to expect from the opening acts. First opening act was Avatar, and although I've never heard of them, they really really put everything into that show. The crowd really got into it and gave the band a lot of feedback (lots more cheering for Avatar than for ITM). Despite the stupid costumes and shameless self-promoting and boring "AVATAR" lighting, these guys are great stage musicians and I spent some time on Wikipedia learning about them; a great opening act by some solid musicians. Next was Of Mice and Men. They were good, although less polished than Avatar. OMM put on a solid show and seemed comfortable on stage and the crowd really responded...just solid rock and roll/metal with no frills but plenty of cheering by the crowd, plenty of headbanging, and even a legit mosh pit! Finally ITM took the stage amid the loudest cheering of the night, which unfortunately means it was all downhill from there as the crowd would not be cheering like that again without Maria demanding it. Without belaboring every little detail, the stage was jam packed with crap to produce smoke and fans to blow Maria's silly costumes around. Stage hands snuck up repeatedly to adjust the fans so her costumes would blow around as much as possible. There was even a tent so she could change...again...and again...and again... and again. It was like watching a bad broadway production as we all just waited between songs for her to change. I think we came for the music, but mostly we got costume changes and ridiculous wind levels on the stage. If I were in that band I would be angry and embarrassed that it has turned into NOTHING but the Maria Brink show. And this would be fine, as she is one of the best rock/metal singers of all time, or at least she used to be. Every lyric of the night was slurred and labored like she was drunk. I felt like I was witnessing the downfall of Courtney Love in "The People vs Larry Flint" if you are old enough to remember that. I mean I couldn't believe this was the same singer that recorded these records, and I hope she's not strung out but it really sounded bad and I stayed because I was hoping she would snap out of it and take that crap costume off and just let it rip like Phil Anselmo, but alas it was like I imagine a Madonna show after she took a whole bottle of Nyquil. If this is the "act" it's a huge mistake. Comparing this show to how their shows used to be was a lot like watching a beautiful friend get way too much plastic surgery; you're sad at their poor self-centered decision but you can't say anything because they look in the mirror and like what they see. Anyway the crowd just stood there! Hardly any dancing, jumping, headbanging, and certainly no "pit." Just people standing in General Admission. Mostly looking bored. The Balcony crowd was sitting the whole time and absolutely looked bored. I was on the balcony so I could see the whole venue. Between 2 and 10 people stood on the balcony, depending on the song. But 200-300 people were just sitting the entire time as Maria and slow not-so-sexy semi-southern drawl and poorly choreographed dance moves sucked the energy out of the room between show-stopping costume changes. Further, every time she addressed the crowd to a steady but low murmur of cheers she kept putting her hands up to get the crowd to get louder, which they did, but not like before ITM started, and not like for the opening bands. I thought it was ridiculous for her to demand that the crowd cheer for her. At one point, Maria introduced the band as though they needed no introduction, and I say they don't need an introduction as they should already be known to anyone going to this show, so it just seemed self-serving and a waste of time, and then she said, "And.............. I............. am......................[wait for it] ........... MARIA........[wait for it].....BRINK!" Which pretty much sums up the only reason I can think that this show would suck so much. She's either drunk out of her mind, high as a kite (downers not uppers), or has completely lost touch with reality and has no independent professional guidance for how to put on a show, and I don't know which is worse although I'm hoping for the last option of course. I'm really not trying to insult Maria. She is a talent beyond compare, and a warrior, and a fighter, and a survivor. But she's also selling us a product which has so obviously become ill-guided, obnoxious, and poorly executed, and the rest of the band apparently just stands in the corners like semi-hidden semi-present musicians at a Broadway play. I stayed for the whole show, frustratedly hoping for just one song where she wasn't singing with this newly developed slurred drawl and fake passion, or address the crowd with her real voice not with that fake on-stage announcer circus conductor voice, but it didn't happen. Drove home (2 hours) pissed off. Don't do the same. I hope she turns it around.

Man oh man what can I say about In This Moment, how about that they are so awesome.

Their music sort of remind me of a female version of Marilyn Manson. The singer was so interactive with the crowd. I think it was the most interaction with a crowd I have ever seen and I can say I very happy with it.

I had to make a long drive to be able to see them but boy can I say it was worth it. The venue for the concert was great and really helped the atmosphere because the crowd was digging everything about the concert.

I for one am going to be going back the next time In This Moment comes near me again. Since that show nothing can really compare with it and I've been to another ten shows.

I can confidently say that if you have not heard their music you are in for a real treat. Go check out a CD or download a couple songs. If they come to an area near you, you have to go and give them a listen. If there is nothing near you go check out some of their live songs because you will want the atmosphere they bring.

IN THIS MOMENT WAS AMAZING holy f@@k let me tell you so much energy, the theatrics, the smoke, lights these guys put on a show !!!! Did I mention that Maria brink is way HOT AS WELL ? Yeah that doesn't suck oh but she's also got phenomenal range and pipes the band are so BADASS with all the masks and just brutally in yiur face style in my opinion they should have been

The headliners halestorm was awesome as well but they played alot of new stuff and some really soft stuff it just didn't feel like a real halestorm show I've seen them 5 times and this one was kind of a let down compared to the other times I've seen them good but not great !! In this moment was AWESOME !!!! new years day wasn't Terrible either did I mention there lead singer was also very easy in the eyes as well ? My favorite part of the show was when the singer of new years day did a duet with Maria from in this moment not sure of the song they did but it was really good Def worth the money if there in your neck of the

Even being out in the cold super early had its perks, hearing practice sessions and tests blasting from the walls as a few of us sang along to big bad wolf :] ... for me there were only two bad parts to the night. one: the wait outside in the cold. two: drunk people/idiots moshing and getting out of control so people were hurt or scared. other than those, the fans were brilliantly friendly and our main event was what everyone hoped for and more. Maria Brink truly included the fans, thanking us and even professing her love for our support and bowing down. Though Truthfully we should be the ones bowing, it is fantastic to see artists return the love that fans have,as none could exist without the other. The trademark costume changes were made and the blood female dancers were included throughout. A brilliant performance with band and audience enjoying every lyric of every song.

Maria Brink and the rest of her amazing band and crew were amazing. Ive been waiting what seemed like my whole life to see In This Moment in concert, and believe me, the did not disappoint. Maria and her girls just did amazing, because not only did we get to hear amazing music, its like we got to see a live play. Each one of the band members had amazing solos, they also did not disapppint. I cant wait to see her again in a few more weeks. My only downside is that I did not get a shirt, which I desperatly wanted, at the time I was little hurried by by the staff and other people at the show that I never did find where the merch was. All in all, great show. I know I was hoping that during whore Chris Motionless would come out as part of the show since he was there, but still put an an amazing performance. Thanks In This Moment for being amazing!!

I wouldn't call myself a huge fan, but my friends are and I like about five songs total. But of course, I did my due diligence and listened to all of their albums to familiarize myself before the show. I think there were only two songs I didn't know, so that was awesome. The visuals were great. Maria was gorgeous as always. I had a lot of fun with my friends. However, it has to be said that Maria was painfully off key MOST of the show. The screaming was good, but the singing was so very bad. The audience sang Whore by themselves. It seemed like she couldn't be bothered with trying. Also, the whole show was most of the new album. I think there were only 3 songs from their previous works. I will continue to listen to recordings, because this band definitely has a noteworthy style and sound, but I will never waste the money again. What a shame.

Maria Brink is one of the hardest working women in the music industry! I was introduced to them about 3 years ago and fell in love with her sound! The next years she came to Dallas not 1 not 2 but 3 times, most bands come maybe 1 time a year! I saw all the concerts and they were beyond anything I'd ever seen in my sheltered life, absolutely amazing and she is breathtaking, I could not imagine her concerts being anything other than unbelievably of the chain! She tours all year long it seems like! For those who gave her a bad rap, maybe it was a bad day for her, we are not the only ones who have off days! Give her a chance to redeem herself! Shes been my major woman crush since the very 1st time I saw her! Shes simply the baddest woman in rock no doubt about it!

Wasnt able to catch the san antonio show but did see the dallas show the next night, all 3 acts were amazing, seen both in this moment and halestorm last year and they were great then, at the time chris wasn't at the show and randy handled the guitar work and he did an amazing job, this time around chris was there and they rocked our asses off,it was a great turn out, fans of all ages and everyone was there to have a good time and got exactly that, if at all possible catch these 2 bands together, its how live shows were meant to be heard, louder, harder and to perfection, and no they are lip syncing they are that fucking good 5stars all day long

Drink prices, even for water and pop ($5) were ridiculous

Had to walk thru crowded patio of smokers to get to entrance.

Place was fancy but on closer look, near restrooms, it looked like they were still renovating areas.

Sound and lighting were great.

Restrooms pretty clean.

Stage area floor was packed and mosh pit got out of hand and was safety issue. Could not observe any security people handling any problems,

Wasn’t impressed with opening bands but IN THIS MOMENT WAS GREAT.

Floor appeared way too crowded during ITM playing.

Sounds negative but most of problems were not big problems.

Staff was efficient and polite.

As always, Maria Brink and her crew of maniacs kicked ass at the last show of the tour at the Sunset HOB. Maria always has such great energy on stage and the band sounded tight and powerful as they blasted through their setlist.

Their new music has been both received well and rejected by their old fans as the sound has a more industrial metal feel to it, but Kevin Churko and Chris Howorth have crafted a very good album-just don't listen to it expecting to hear the In This Moment of 1997.

All in all, I really enjoyed the show and had a great time enjoying the music, the energy and the spectacle that is the Black Widow show.

Asia Announces The Heat Of The Moment Tour in 2024

by Em Casalena April 24, 2024, 6:21 am

English rockers Asia are getting the gang back together (with some new faces) for a summer tour of the US and Canada! According to a press release for the tour, OG Asia member Geoff Downes “masterminded” the tour after the successful reunion concert held in memory of the band’s late singer and bassist John Wetton.

Videos by American Songwriter

“And so it was that the John Wetton tribute last August really reminded me how much Asia’s music belongs on the stage,” said Downes. “The response to it all was literally…spine-tingling.”

The tour will feature Downes, John Mitchell on guitar, Harry Whitley on vocals and bass, and Virgil Donati on drums. The band will bring along some killer supporting acts as well, including Focus, Curved Air, and Martin Turner.

The Asia 2024 Tour will begin on July 3 at Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, Connecticut. The tour will close on July 31 at The Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In This Moment + Black Veil Brides Announce Joint 2021 North American Tour

In This Moment and Black Veil Brides will band together for The In-Between Tour this fall, the trek covering the United States from September to November.

As reported on Monday (May 17) by Revolver , the tour, first scheduled for 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic shuttered most large live events, features supporting artists in Ded and Raven Black .

See all the dates down toward the bottom of this post.

Taking its name from the lead single (" The In-Between ") from In This Moment's latest album, 2020's Mother , the 45-date tour kicks off in Lincoln, Neb., on Sept. 17 before winding up in Atlanta eight weeks later. Seeing as how the pandemic kept both bands from playing out until now, it will mark the first time that In This Moment can debut much of their Mother material in concert.

Black Veil Brides last year reimagined their debut, Re-Stitch These Wounds , in a re-recorded update, but the proper follow-up to their 2018 set  Vale   arrives later this year — it's called The Phantom Tomorrow .

Tickets for the tour go on sale this Friday (May 21).

Joe Alt’s NFL draft moment was nearly overshadowed by his girlfriend, Emilie Meyer , whose stoic reaction captured attention on social media.

Meyer’s body language had some keyboard warriors buzzing when Alt, a former offensive tackle at Notre Dame, was selected with the No. 5 overall pick by the Chargers in the 2024 NFL Draft Thursday night.

The brunette, who looked beautiful in a black mini dress, appeared serious and somewhat confused when the broadcast showed her sitting with Alt at home, where he had a draft party with his loved ones.

The reaction by both Meyer and Alt seemed due to a broadcast delay that made it seem the couple wasn’t thrilled in the moment.

That did not stop fans from reacting, of course.

“Blink twice if you need rescue,” one person wrote.

“Can we get a wellness check?” another added.

Meyer’s wide-eyed reaction also drew jokes about Alt’s eventual move to California.

“Maybe she does not want to move to Los Angeles,” one person posted.

“That’s the face of someone who realized that his game checks will be taxed at 65% because he’ll be in Cali,” another quipped.

But both Alt and Meyer were seen celebrating the Chargers using their fifth overall pick on the 6-foot-9, 321-pound premiere left tackle.

Meyer is a junior at Drake University, where she is a member of the  track and field team  and runs distance.

The couple grew up in Minnesota and attended the same high school, Totino-Grace.

It’s unclear if they will continue to do long-distance when Alt relocates to Los Angeles.

The positivity is incredible on a personal level. Not to mention, the shows are absolutely ferocious. I am honored to be on stage with these incredible women of metal and rock once again! And honestly, I hope there’s no end in sight!”

Tickets go on-sale this Friday, July 27th, the release day of Halestorm’s fourth album,  Vicious , now available for pre-order HERE .  Also this Friday, all three bands kick off the second leg of the tour at Kansas City, MO’s Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

On Friday, Halestorm released “ Do Not Disturb ,” the third song to be unveiled from  Vicious. The first single from the album, “ Uncomfortable ,” is currently top 10 at active rock radio. Produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Rush),  Vicious  was recorded earlier this year at Nashville, TN’s Rock Falcon recording studio.

In This Moment’s latest album  RITUAL  arrived in July 2017 on the back of the Top 10 single “ Oh Lord .” The album landed at #1 on the Hard Music Chart, #3 on the Rock Chart, #9 on the Top Current Albums Chart, #10 on the Digital Albums Chart, and #23 on the Top 200. The critically lauded album also included the hit singles “ Roots ” and “ Black Wedding ,” the latter featuring an assist from Judas Priest’s Rob Halford. Vocalist  Maria Brink  and guitarist  Chris Howorth  recently recorded a brand new song, “ The Calling ,” which coincides with  DARK NIGHTS: METAL DELUXE EDITION . Listen  here .

The band also made a stunning top 10 chart debut with 2015’s acclaimed  BLACK WIDOW.  It was the band’s fifth full-length release and arrived at #8 on the SoundScan/Billboard 200, while also entering Billboard’s “Hard Rock Albums” tally at #3.  BLACK WIDOW  featured a string of rock radio hits, including “ Sick Like Me ,” “ Big Bad Wolf ,” “ Sex Metal Barbie ,” and “ The Fighter .” Official companion videos – all co-directed by Brink – are streaming at the band’s official  YouTube  channel. Furthermore, In This Moment’s 2012 album,  BLOOD , has been certified Gold by the RIAA, as have both singles “Blood” and “Whore.” A remarkable accomplishment, the companion music video for “Blood” has been viewed over 27 million times.

Known worldwide for their dramatic and cinematic live performances, In This Moment have received rapturous praise in a range of national outlets. “One of the most unique, diverse and theatrical live acts you could witness in heavy music today,” raved  Loudwire . “Not only are they a powerhouse sonically but visually they are beyond captivating… the production, sound and overall professional level of their concert experience has been elevated.”

Formed in Orange County, Calif. by  Ashley Costello ,  New Years Day  shook the scene with their  Century Media  debut,  Victim to Villain , in 2013 featuring their breakout single  “Angel Eyes.”  The five-piece later cemented their place in the heavy music landscape with their Epidemic   EP and critically-acclaimed  Malevolence   full-length in 2015, clocking more than 20 million views on YouTube. The band has since become the most visually-captivating group in modern rock, playing for millions of fans around the world, sharing the stage with  Ozzy Osbourne ,  Nine Inch Nails  and  Five Finger Death Punch  while also headlining the longest-running touring festival in 2017. As new challenges and new worlds beckon, the band released  Diary of a Creep  in January to pay tribute to the artists who shaped them thus far – stream their cover of Garbage’s “Only Happy When It Rains ft. Lzzy Hale” now .

PGA Tour executive Tyler Dennis details Player Equity Program, payouts and more

Tyler Dennis called the moment historic.

That's what the PGA Tour's Chief Competitions Officer said Wednesday when speaking to Golf Channel's Anna Jackson discussing the PGA Tour Enterprises Player Equity Program, which was introduced Wednesday.

The program, which is a joint venture between the PGA Tour and Strategic Sports Group, will reward 200 PGA Tour players with $1.5 billion in equity. The program rewards players based on career achievements, future participation and services and more. The grants are only available to qualified players.

The program gives players the opportunity to be owners of the organization, which is unique since there are so many Tour players with their hands in the pot.

"There's no other sports league in the world that has this significant number of their athletes as owners of their own sports organization," Dennis said. "And we're really excited about it because ultimately, we want to do what's right. We want to grow the PGA Tour in many different ways and having the alignment of our pleasures as player odors with the organization is going to allow us to drive that quickly forward. We're really excited about it."

Dennis said there has been a lot of positive feedback about the Player Equity Program among the membership since the announcement. He said it has grown in positivity since the announcement of SSG getting involved in creating the for-profit entity, PGA Tour Enterprises, earlier this year.

"We want the players to be fully aligned with their organization," Dennis said. "It's something no other sport has done before and we're seeing an incredible amount of excitement about that."

Dennis also said this investment will be extremely beneficial to the fans, which has become a big talking point in recent months regarding discussions of the state of professional golf.

"Fans want to see the PGA Tour leap forward," Dennis said. "We're really focused on innovating. We haven't stood still, we've done a lot over the last few months to have the players directly engaged in that."

Not every player is included in the equity program, but that doesn't mean there won't be ways to get involved or for younger stars and rookies to get their hands in the pot.

Toward the end of the interview, Jackson asked whether players will be expected to contribute to the growth to increase their value beyond just playing PGA Tour events.

"Well, ultimately, we have an incredible sport and that our athletes really care about," Dennis said. "They're constantly every day thinking about how to improve our platform about our products. That's a unique thing in sports and our athletes are out entertaining clients and sponsors that help us put on this tournament and ultimately drive a significant amount of charity, so it's sort of built into the sport.

"Our players are highly engaged. We had a great advisory council meeting, where we talked about things from other sports that we've learned. I think what we want them to do is play golf. You know, fans want to see them display their incredible skills on the course. But being aligned with the overall goals of the organization is really what this latest announcement today is about."

Dennis said he wasn't able to discuss whether players who return from LIV Golf to the PGA Tour would be able to be a part of the program, but he did mention talks continue to accelerate with the PIF.

In the roughly 10-minute interview, Dennis mentioned the word "exciting" nine different times in addition to "historic." Although nothing major is changing in terms of the schedule, Dennis said the players are striving to deliver the best product for fans.

"We want to make the PGA Tour as good as possibly be," Dennis said.

Rafael Nadal takes step-by-step approach on his return to red clay: 'I'm trying to enjoy every moment'

Rafael Nadal is back on his favoured red clay, 2024

No one - perhaps not even Rafael Nadal himself - can answer the question: Is this it?

But as the great tennis champion returned to the ATP Tour for the first time in over three months last week in Barcelona , the 37-year-old appeared to be treating the event as the beginning of a red-clay-tinged farewell, but one he'd like to see last for a few more months - should his body allow.

"I tried a lot of times in my career [to come back] and it's true that every time it's more difficult," Nadal told TennisTV after a win over 62nd-ranked Flavio Cobolli in Barcelona. "When you are an advanced age, it makes things even tougher. I'm going through tough moments, but at the same time when I am able to be on the tour for a few days and practice with the guys and then be able to compete a little bit, it means a lot to me.

"It's still enough enjoyable to keep doing it."

This week (24 April) Nadal heads to another event in his home country with hopes he can take yet another step back toward some of his vintage best tennis, lining up for the Madrid Open ,

For Nadal it's all about each of those steps: In Madrid, then - he hopes - in Rome, in Paris for Roland-Garros and... a few weeks later, the Olympic Summer Games Paris 2024 .

"I'm trying to enjoy every moment, and I'm excited to be on court again in a professional tournament," he told reporters in Barcelona. "That's what I have been doing all my life, no? I'm just trying to think what's going on day-by-day, trying to adapt to the situations and try to be able to improve under any circumstances to be a better player."

  • Could Paris 2024 be the perfect farewell for Rafael Nadal?
  • Meet Jannik Sinner, tennis champion with roots in skiing

Rafael Nadal: 'Today I feel good enough'

That approach is actually one Nadal has always taken in his storied two-decade-plus career: Getting better at every turn, whatever the challenge is he's facing. But what is different for the two-time Olympic gold medallist and 22-time major winner this time around appears to be a greater recognising of the moment, regardless of what that means.

"I was not able to spend a lot of days on tour the last two years," explained Nadal, who has played just nine matches in the last two seasons. "I'm just trying to enjoy every day that I'm able to play with the guys at the professional level with the guys. That means a lot to me."

But as Nadal moves through these tournaments with a sort of legendary air he has created, he is still pushing his mortal body to do the other-worldly things it has for so long.

"Today I feel myself enough good to be on court tomorrow, and that for me is so important," he said before his first match in Barcelona.

Yet what could a Nadal with a few matches, a few weeks, under his belt look like? Both a Grand Slam contender for the French Open , which starts on 25 May and where he's won an earth-shattering 14 times, as well as for the Olympic tennis event, also set for Stade Roland-Garros , and underway on 27 July.

Will Rafael Nadal play the 2024 Olympics?

While it's no doubt that Nadal wants another look at the French Open, which he last won in 2022, to add to his historic haul there, the difference is great between the clay major's format - seven matches played at best-of-five-sets - and that of the Olympic Games, where he would only play six matches in a best-of-three-set format.

“Of course, [the] Olympic Games is one of the competitions I’d love to be at," Nadal said last May when he announced an extended layoff from tour to get his body healthy again. "I can’t say if it’s going to be my last or not. I hope to be there. Whether it's my last tournament or not, I can't say now.”

Nadal won his singles gold at Beijing 2008 at the age of 21, beating Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals and Fernando Gonzalez in the final. He added to his Olympic hardware at Rio 2016 when he teamed up with close friend Marc Lopez to capture the doubles, and there have been discussions on if he would also try to play the doubles with rising Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz .

But Nadal isn't thinking in those terms. It's one step - literally - at a time.

"I will try to take another step forward in Madrid, then in Rome, and, if in a tournament it is worth going out there to give everything and die for it, then it is Paris," he said of Roland-Garros.

But even after his defeat to De Minaur in Barcelona, Nadal was finding the silver lining. Which makes him that much more dangerous in what's still to come over the next several weeks and months.

"That [match tells] me that if I'm able to spend days on tour and keep practising with the players on this surface, that I really hope and believe that I can keep being competitive," he said.

"And my body will allow me to keep pushing the way that I need."
