IDW’s New Star Trek: Discovery Comic Book Series Spotlights a Crew Marooned in the Distant Future

Kirsten Beyer and Mike Johnson Reunite for Adventures in the 32nd Century

Star Trek: Discovery

IDW Publishing

Comic book and graphic novel publisher IDW today announces that The United Federation of Planet’s far-flung future will be further explored in a new four-issue miniseries, Star Trek: Discovery – Adventures in the 32nd Century.

The new series reunites co-writers Kirsten Beyer and Mike Johnson, whose previous collaboration on Star Trek: Discovery comics included The Light of Kahless, Succession , and Aftermath . The authors are joined by artist Angel Hernandez, celebrated by fans for his work on Star Trek / Green Lantern: The Spectrum War and, most recently, Star Trek: Manifest Destiny .

Each issue of Adventures in the 32nd Century will spotlight a different cast member, and the first issue’s focus promises a unique perspective from the Star Trek franchise as it reveals the secret history of the queen herself: Grudge the Cat! A flashback tale of her first meeting with Cleveland “Book” Booker sets the stage for a trajectory establishing Grudge as the greatest feline spacefarer of all. Subsequent issues will focus on ensign Adira Tal, Lieutenant Keyla Detmer, and science officer Linus.

Star Trek: Discovery

“Discovery's arrival in the 32nd century opens up a whole new universe of adventure for the crew, from the feline to the Saurian. It's a blast telling stories eight hundred years in the future of Star Trek , where we really have never been before, exploring different facets of their lives,” says Johnson.

“It’s no secret that Star Trek: Discovery ’s television series has an amazing cast of characters, and being able to translate those characters and their stories into the comics is a real treat for not only the fans, but also us as well,” says editor Heather Antos. “Diving deeper into Queen Grudge’s mind, to Adira’s relationship with Gray and more, Star Trek: Discovery – Adventures in the 32nd Century gives readers an incredibly detailed perspective of these fan-favorite characters.”

Star Trek: Discovery – Adventures in the 32nd Century will be available with two cover variants for retailers and fans to enjoy, including Cover A by interior artist Angel Hernandez and a Retailer Incentive edition by Aaron Harvey.

For information on how to acquire Star Trek comics and graphic novels from IDW, please contact your local comic shop or visit www.comicshoplocator.com to find a store near you.

Star Trek: Discovery currently streams exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. Internationally, the series is available on Paramount+ in Australia, Latin America and the Nordics, and on Pluto TV in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom on the Pluto TV Sci-Fi channel. In Canada, it airs on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and streams on Crave. Star Trek: Discovery is distributed by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group.

IDW Publishing

IDW Publishing (also known as IDW Comics and Idea & Design Works ) is an American comic book company founded in 1999 by Robbie Robbins and Ted Adams , specializing in comics based on TV and movie franchises, such as CSI , Angel , Galaxy Quest , and 24 . IDW began releasing Star Trek issues in 2007 .

The company currently holds the licenses for Star Trek: The Original Series , Star Trek: The Next Generation , Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , Star Trek: Discovery , Star Trek: Picard , Star Trek: Lower Decks , and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds comics, as well as comics set in the alternate reality of Star Trek (2009).

Following a successful run of miniseries, four releases in 2008 were announced under the umbrella title Star Trek: Second Stage (although this title only appeared on issues of Star Trek: New Frontier - Turnaround , a tie-in to the novel series ). IDW has since made Star Trek: Resurgence to tie into the video game of the same name .

In 2022, IDW launched an original comic series featuring characters from previous Star Trek series. This series had the spin-offs Star Trek: Defiant and Star Trek: Sons of Star Trek and the cross-over event Star Trek: Day of Blood ,

IDW boldly goes in new direction with new 'Star Trek' #1 October 2022

Idw boldly goes in new direction with new ‘star trek’ #1 october 2022.

IDW launches a new era of Star Trek comic books with the debut of ‘Star Trek’ #1.

David Brooke

IDW has revealed Star Trek comics are getting a bold new direction with a new Star Trek #1 by writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing with artist Ramon Rosanas. The ongoing series promises to span the “far reaches” of the Star Trek multiverse bringing together characters from different areas and eras. Their hope? To defeat a mysterious murderer of the gods. The story will be a prelude to Rosanas, Lanzing and Kelly’s Star Trek #400 anthology issue.

“As a child, I watched reruns of the classic Star Trek series endlessly–until Next Generation, Voyager, and  Deep Space Nine  came along!” Rosanas enthuses. “After that, I didn’t miss a single episode of those three series’ each week. Gene Roddenberry is History with a capital H and his legacy is unstoppable. Having an opportunity to bring my passion and creativity to this franchise is incredibly exciting for me.”

So what’s Star Trek #1 about?

Its stardate 2378, and Benjamin Sisko has finally returned from the Bajoran Wormhole omnipotent. But his godhood is failing with every minute. Sent by the Prophets on a mission to the deepest parts of space aboard the U.S.S. Theseus, he witnesses the unthinkable: Someone is killing the gods. And only Sisko and his motley crew of Starfleet members from every era of Trek can stop them.

“Benjamin Sisko is back!” Lanzing says. “We’re immeasurably thrilled to launch a new starship with a crew of new and familiar faces heading on a mission that will truly go where no one has gone before—an  Avengers -style ongoing crossover that treats Gene Roddenberry’s creation as a living universe. This is a book where anyone can show up and where anything is possible.”

IDW boldy goes in new direction with new 'Star Trek' #1 in October 2022

“Star Trek has always been about telling stories of a better future,” says editor Heather Antos, “of hope for humanity. Something this world needs now more than ever before. And what Jackson, Collin, and Ramon are doing with this series is bigger. Bigger and bolder than any Star Trek series has gone before.”

The comic will feature eight variant covers including Cover A by series artist Ramon Rosanas, Cover B by Declan Shalvey, Cover C by David Aja (TBC), Cover D by Rachael Stott, and a sketch Cover E, as well as three additional retailer incentive covers by Rosanas and Francesco Francavilla.

IDW Launching ‘Echoes’ Comic Miniseries Set Right After ‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture’

idw star trek series

| February 15, 2023 | By: TrekMovie.com Staff 31 comments so far

IDW continues to ramp up its Star Trek comics output with the announcement of another miniseries, this time  tied into the first movie in the franchise. The new Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Echoes series is written by Marc Guggenheim, creator of Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow CW television series.

TMP – Echoes

This will be the first IDW comic set in the Star Trek: The Motion Picture era. The five-issue miniseries is set immediately after the events of the 1979 film. Here is the official synopsis:

Echoes pits the venerated Admiral James T. Kirk and his crew against enemies both terrifying and shockingly familiar! When a space anomaly thrusts a criminal mastermind—pursued by a very determined pilot on a mission—into our universe, the Enterprise must stop them from unintentionally starting a war with the Romulans and unleashing a superweapon of foreign technology into the system. But things get infinitely more complicated when these newcomers to our reality remove their helmets, revealing that they’re doppelgängers of our beloved heroes!

The series features artwork by Oleg Chudakov and colors by DC Alonso, along with a series of different covers for each issue. “What does it mean to draw this new Star Trek adventure? It’s like revisiting my childhood, but at the same time learning something new. It’s amazing!” says Chudakov.

In addition to his extensive series of television credits, Marc Guggenheim has written for over two dozen comic titles across both DC and Marvel. This will be his first time writing for Star Trek, at least officially. When he was just starting out in the ’90s, he wrote a Star Trek: Voyager spec script .

“Despite watching the occasional fragment of a Star Trek episode here and there with my father, my true introduction was going to see Star Trek: The Motion Picture with my grandparents—I was entranced. I’m thrilled that IDW and Paramount Global have allowed me to revisit that time period, which was so impactful to me and my love of Star Trek,” said Guggenheim in a statement. “Almost all Trek stories are told from the point of view of the Enterprise crew, but I was interested in telling a story from the perspective of an outsider as a means of recapturing how it felt for me when I first saw Star Trek: The Motion Picture .”

“When everything in life feels like it’s moving too fast towards the future, it’s always important to step back and revisit where it all came from. And that’s exactly what we’re doing with this comic focusing on the Star Trek: The Motion Picture time frame,” says series editor Heather Antos. “No one knows more about this period in Trek history than Guggenheim, we’ve learned… and we could think of no one better suited to take Kirk and his crew on this wild adventure. Paired with Chudakov’s energetic, character-driven inks, this is one mission that the crew of the Enterprise soon won’t forget. Oh, and did we mention that there are possible Easter eggs to some of our other Trek books, too?”

Kirk was a captain at the end of the movie, even wearing captain’s rank insignia. Presumably his admiral rank at the beginning of the movie was temporary. (Same for Decker, who went from captain to commander.)

Kirk was demoted to captain in ST IV. At the end of TMP he was an admiral, serving as captain.

WOK took place over a decade after TMP. Presumably by that point Kirk had received a regular promotion to his rank. Tellingly, he was the same rank, what we’d call Rear Admiral Upper Grade, both in TMP and in WOK, which may indicate that he wasn’t really at the rank the first time we saw him. (Of course, while commanding the Enterprise in the interim for five or ten years, his rank may have been frozen.)

Kirk did say that Decker’s rank reduction was “temporary”.

You’re right. Which means maybe Kirk’s was as well. Commanders of a ship are often called “captain” even if they’re lower, but I don’t know they’d be if they were actually admirals, though. And Kirk’s rank stripes did change as well.

In IV, V, and VI there seemed no problem in having *three* captains on board (Kirk, Spock, and Scotty).

Kirk was still an admiral. He remained an admiral until Star Trek IV. The captaincy role didn’t mean he was demoted.

You have a point- see my responses above- but I’m still not sure.

Kirk was an admiral as TMP begins. He tells Scotty he’s spent “Two and half years as chief of Star Fleet operations.” He’s addressed as Admiral Kirk. There’s no evidence of his being anything but an admiral.

There’s probably an out of universe reason for his demotion to captain. Fans wanted him to be “Captain Kirk” again, without another title. Not to mention avoiding his having to sling that fancy wide swath of sleeve braid around on the bridge.

Ha! Good point.

Take your hands off Spock, Daft Punk.

She seems to be female under this Mask. You can see the bulge on her Chest on the Cover

Oh, well, that changes everything.

Would rather see an IDW series adapting the PHASE II Scripts…including the alternate version of what became the first movie. IF the Kelvin Universe is out there, shouldn’t the PHASE II one be out there someplace 2? Pilot movie and 13 scrips could easily get 28 issue run.

I love this idea!!!😀👍🐕

This would be amazing.

That, may very well be something I would buy into.

This to me was always an exciting time period. You had the Enterprise clearly the flagship of the fleet with the Chief of Starfleet Operations aboard. Many speculate that there was a 5 year mission in there. The DC Comics of the time were awesome – you also had the clear disappearance of the Organians and the Federation having to react to that. Lots of drama too with some having Nogura having brought Kirk in to save Starfleet only to see Nogura getting pushed out.

The DC comics weren’t set post-TMP other than a single issue or two. They were set post-TWOK, post-TSFS and post-TVH. The first Marvel series and the L.A. Times Syndicate strips were post-TMP, however.

I think the first eight issues of DC were post WOK pre SFS, the next thirty or so were post SFS pre TVH, and the next twenty or so were post TVH.

Of course, each movie in turn ended those possibilities, with only a few days between WOK and SFS, three months (all on Vulcan) between SFS and TVH, and a month (on Earth) between TVH and TFF.

The second DC series was all post TFF, and there was plenty of time there, almost a decade before TUC.

There’s about twelve and a half years between TMP and WOK- time enough to let the characters catch up with their actors’ ages- so Kirk may even have commanded the ship for ten years.

“This will be the first IDW comic set in the  Star Trek: The Motion Picture  era.”

It really isn’t. There have been a handful of others from IDW. :)

They should do a live action series set in this time. Could be a natural follow up to SNW. Keep the actors they have cast already and ditch the disco era uniforms and you have a good, back to basics show the franchise needs at least one of.

That’s the first decent idea I’ve heard with regards to a Kirk-era show.

I could really get into this!!!

great era to mine. The book “Ex Machina” is a fun read set after TMP and a sequel to more than one TOS episode.

A bunch of the early novels were set at various points in this era.

This is the era new movies should be set in…

but this kirk is more chilled post TMP. i liked the messed up admiral who stepped on people to take back the chair and needed a lesson in hubris

New g.i. joe collections finally make it possible to read the entire comic saga.

The original G.I. Joe comic series is being collected in all-new compendium volumes from Skybound, allowing fans to catch up on the classic series.

  • Skybound Entertainment is reviving classic G.I. Joe comics with new Compendium collections for fans of all ages.
  • The first Compendium will feature the first 50 issues of the original Marvel Comics series, available this October.
  • Skybound hints that it plans to reprint all G.I. Joe material, including subsequent runs at Devil's Due and IDW Publishing, for fans to enjoy.

Skybound Entertainment may have just started a new era for G.I. Joe with the Energon Universe line of titles, but the publisher also wants to remind fans of the franchise’s past with all-new collections of the classic comic series. Adding to the series of massive “Compendium” tomes, these new volumes of classic G.I. Joe comics will allow fans to read the entire saga from the very beginning.

According to Skybound Entertainment , G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Compendium Vol. 1 will collect the first 50 issues of the original Marvel Comics series. It will be released on October 2 in comic book stores and October 16 on digital platforms.

Written by Larry Hama and featuring art by Herb Trimpe, Mike Vosburg, Rod Whigham and more, this first compendium aims to be the most complete collection yet of the classic series. Joining the likes of Invincible and The Walking Dead , the compendium format is ideal for fans both old and new looking to get the complete G.I. Joe: ARAH experience.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Gets The “Compendium” Treatment It Deserves

With the publication of the first issue in 1982, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero entered comic book history. As envisioned by writer Larry Hama , the original Marvel Comics series was the place fans could go to get the story of their G.I. Joe and Cobra action figures. Skybound highlights the legacy of the original series in the announcement on its website:

“The pop culture world changed forever when Larry Hama’s G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero made its comic book debut, and now fans can experience every issue from the original series and its tie-ins with the all-new compendium release, printed on newsprint for that classic comic feeling. ”

Skybound SVP & Publisher Sean Mackiewicz shares his enthusiasm for the new collections of the classic Marvel run, stating, “This compendium marks the beginning of Skybound collecting Hasbro’s incredible backlist of G.I. Joe comics .” Mackiewicz also hints that the publisher will go beyond the original Marvel run and reprint all previous material, including subsequent runs at Devil’s Due and IDW Publishing . “ G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero was my first comic, ” Mackiewicz continues, “bursting with incredible characters and intense action, and it’s a pleasure to reintroduce readers to the original Hasbro comics that hooked a generation of fans. ”

Catch Up With Skybound’s G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Compendiums

Larry Hama was given the rare opportunity to pick up where the original run left off when IDW continued the Marvel run of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero in 2012. It looked like the run came to another close with the publication of the 300th issue in 2022, but Skybound subsequently announced that Hama would continue the series with the publication of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #301 . It will go down as one of the greatest continuous runs on a series in comic history, so it’s nice that Skybound Entertainment will be releasing all of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero in nice, new collections for fans to enjoy.

‘Star Trek’ Origin Story Movie Will Be Set Decades Before 2009 Film

CinemaCon 2024: The new project will be produced by longtime “Star Trek” steward J.J. Abrams

Paramount Pictures is ready to boldly go (again).

After rumors circulated earlier this year, Paramount officially announced a new “Star Trek” prequel film on Thursday, this time taking place decades before the original 2009 “Star Trek” feature.

“Andor” director Toby Haynes will direct from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith (who is also writing another hotly touted CinemaCon title, the third “Now You See Me” film). J.J. Abrams is returning to produce.

But then again, we’ve heard about a new “Star Trek” movie before.

idw star trek series

During the run-up to “Star Trek Beyond” in 2016, it was revealed that a fourth film would reunite Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk with his deceased father (played, once again, by Chris Hemsworth). A year later, Quentin Tarantino approached Paramount about doing a “Star Trek” movie – this time as an R-rated gangster movie (based, in part, on the 1968 episode of the original series “A Piece of the Action”). In 2018 S.J. Clarkson, a TV vet who would eventually direct “Madame Web,” was hired to direct the fourth film in the Abrams-verse, but salary disputes led to Pine and Hemsworth leaving the project. That version was canceled in 2019 and Tarantino stated in 2020 that he wouldn’t be making his “Star Trek” either.

In November 2019 “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley was hired to write and direct a new “Star Trek” film based on his version of the series. A year later, this movie was canceled by new Paramount Pictures president Emma Watts. In 2021 “Star Trek: Discovery” writer Kalinda Vazquez was hired to write a version based on her original pitch, but a separate script was being developed by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. The studio even set a summer 2023 release date for a new “Trek” (which “Trek” was the question).

In 2021 that release date was pushed to Christmas 2023, under the direction of “WandaVision” director Matt Shakman. Josh Friedman and Cameron Squires were brought on to retool the script. In early 2022 it was announced that the stars of the three previous “Star Trek” installments in the Abrams-verse would all be returning, although it was later reported that the actors had not entered negotiations to return.

In 2022 Shakman left “Star Trek” to join Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four.” But just last month Steve Yockey was hired to write a fourth “Star Trek” movie.

Now, we are finally getting word of another film in development, with another writer/director team. But it’s not the first time that a “Star Trek” prequel script has been floated, as Erik Jendresen, cowriter of “Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning,” had submitted a script for “Star Trek: The Beginning” before J.J. had taken over and pitched his 2009 version. It depicted the Earth-Romulan War.

IDW honors 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' 30th anniversary with new comics miniseries

Writer Mike Chen and artist Angel Hernandez share the captain’s chair for "Deep Space Nine - The Dog of War"

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Dog of War

As sci-fi fans who love our furry friends, we can all agree that there needs to be more dogs included in our favorite franchises. Except for Cosmo the Wonderdog and "Spaceballs'" Barf, there's an unacceptable void when it comes to a diversity of cosmic canines sniffing around the universe.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of " Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ," IDW Publishing will be gifting us a new five-issue comic book miniseries " Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Dog of War " in April of 2023 with a particularly valuable Welsh Corgi called Latinum at the core of its fun storyline.

Written by acclaimed sci-fi author Mike Chen ("Star Wars: Brotherhood," "Light Years From Home") and paired with veteran "Star Trek" artist Angel Hernandez ("Star Trek: Picard - Stargazer," "Star Trek: Discovery - Adventures in the 32nd Century"), "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Dog of War" reunites readers with those popular wormhole residents and its eclectic space station crew. You can check out our picks for the best Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes to catch up on the acclaimed Trek series.

Return to Deep Space Nine in April 2023 for a new adventure with the station's crew and an adorable Corgi (not to mention Quark)!

The cover art for

" The Dog of War " seeks to conjure up a "lost episode" set within the canonical timeline of the original "Deep Space Nine" show that first hit the airwaves on January 3, 1993 and ran for seven seasons.

Check out the project's official synopsis:

"In the new miniseries, an extremely rare purebred corgi from Earth makes its way aboard Deep Space 9 when Quark cuts a deal to procure it for a potential buyer. After all, a Ferengi without profit is no Ferengi at all! But the corgi named Latinum comes with unexpected cargo that shakes Captain Benjamin Sisko to the core: a Borg component discovered by a crew sent to uncover Cardassian technology after the station’s reoccupation."

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Dog of War

"'You mean the greatest TV show ever made?'" says Chen in an official statement when quizzed about his affection for "DS9." "I'm absolutely ecstatic to hang out with "DS9's" crew, and I hope that this story touches on all of the characters and intensity that made the show so powerful and great: Sisko's history with the Borg, the Dominion War, Garak's great outfits, Jadzia being Jadzia, Miles and Julian's holosuite adventures, and so much more. Also, Quark gets a dog. If that doesn’t earn your latinum, I don’t know what will!"

For "Star Trek" senior editor Heather Antos, "Deep Space Nine" represents the defining "Star Trek" show for a whole generation of fans, and with all things ‘90s back in style, the timing is totally ripe.

"So to be able to tell an additional episode in comic form for the series’ 30th anniversary is extra special," says Antos in IDW's press release. "Mike Chen’s passion for the crew of this celebrated space station is unprecedented, and no one knows the visual world of "Star Trek" quite like Angel Hernandez. Plus…who wouldn’t want dogs in 'Star Trek?'"

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Dog of War

" Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Dog of War #1 " launches in April of 2023 with multiple variant covers including Cover A by series artist Angel Hernandez; a "Star Trek: Lower Decks" wraparound Cover B by Chris Fenogolio; and Cover C by "My Little Pony" artist Andy Price which links with covers across all five issues to create a tail-wagging diorama of "DS9" characters with lookalike pooches.

Star Trek Origin Movie Officially Announced By Paramount For 2025 Release

  • Paramount Pictures announces new Star Trek movie for 2025, directed by Toby Haynes and written by Seth Grahame-Smith.
  • Chris Pine-led Star Trek 4 remains in development, while the new film is an origin story set decades before Abrams' 2009 movie.
  • Alongside the Star Trek origin movie, Paramount reveals a packed slate of exciting films for 2025-26 at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

Paramount Pictures officially announces the next Star Trek movie, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2025. As reported in January, the next Star Trek movie isn't the long-delayed, Chris Pine-led Star Trek 4 produced by J.J. Abrams, which remains in development at Paramount. Rather, the next Star Trek movie is an origin story directed by Toby Haynes ( Star Wars: Andor ) and written by Seth Grahame-Smith (A braham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter ).

Screen Rant' s Rob Keyes (@rob_keyes) is at CinemaCon in Las Vegas where Paramount Pictures confirmed the next Star Trek movie , currently called Untitled Star Trek Origin Story , to be released in 2025. J.J. Abrams is also producing Untitled Star Trek Origin Story, which takes place decades before Abrams' Star Trek 2009 movie. See Rob Keyes' Tweet below:

Paramount also confirmed Untitled Star Trek Origin Story will begin production later this year for theatrical release in 2025.

Every Upcoming Star Trek Movie & TV Show

Star trek's new movies in theaters and paramount plus explained, star trek is finally making movies again.

After nearly a decade, Star Trek i s back to making movies. Star Trek on Paramount+ has created a television renaissance for the franchise, but the theatrical side of Star Trek overseen by Paramount Pictures has languished in development hell since Star Trek Beyond bowed in the summer of 2016. Toby Haynes' Untitled Star Trek Origin Story is yet another prequel, but as it's said to be set decades before Star Trek 2009, it could very well be set after Star Trek: Enterprise 's mid-22nd century voyages but otherwise be an origin story for both Star Trek 's Prime and alternate Kelvin timelines .

Meanwhile, J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 4 , which is the "final chapter" of the USS Enterprise crew led by Chris Pine's Captain James T. Kirk and Zachary Quinto's Spock, has seen some movement with a new screenwriter, Steve Yockey ( The Flight Attendant ), tackling the long-delayed sequel. Pine and his fellow Star Trek actors, including Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, and Sofia Boutella, have all expressed their eagerness to return if Star Trek 4 can come together.

It's a positive sign that Star Trek movies are finally coming back.

Paramount+ is making their own Star Trek movies, with the recently-wrapped Star Trek: Section 31 awaiting a release date. Starring Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh, Section 31 i s the first made-for-streaming Star Trek movie, and it is reportedly set during Star Trek 's "lost era" with connections to Star Trek: The Next Generation. Section 31 could get a sequel if successful, and the Star Trek: Picard spinoff dubbed Star Trek: Legacy may also become a streaming movie instead of a series. However all this shakes out, it's a positive sign that Star Trek movies are finally coming back.
