|Note:  Do not carry any packaged food, alcohol or plastic with you. Your bags will be checked at the office. You can keep it at the office if you have any of such things with you and collect it later.

The trek starts from 500 m from the forest office. You need to walk on the highway. After 500 m to your left, you see the entrance gate. This is where the trek starts from.

The trail through the forests already allures with its silence and beauty of nature.

Around 300 m from the gate, you cross a bridge. You see the crystal clear Bhadra river flowing under the bridge. Get down to the river, fill your water bottles with this cold relishing water. If you want to relax and sit by the river, do this while descending down after your trek.

The initial trail from this bridge is a completely muddy trail. During the monsoon season, it can be slippery. Make sure you wear proper trekking shoes.

|Tip:  Wear proper trekking shoes. Carry a pair of trekking poles as well. These two trekking gears will help you while trekking.  Here is a link  to choose the best trekking shoes for you.

The trail continues to be like this for another 30 minutes from the bridge. After that, you reach the starting point of the dense forest section.

The starting point of the forest section is very evident as you can experience the strange feeling as soon as you enter.

There are many small waterfalls and streams flowing next to the trail. It is also home to many wild animals, colourful birds and thousands of leeches. Trekking in this section is challenging as you encounter a minimum of 2 leeches at every step.

However, the feeling of trekking inside this forest, cannot be explained in words.

Chirping sound of birds, rustling leaves and the gushing sound of the waterfalls and streams next to the trail are all you need to enjoy the trek.

|Tip:  Apply Dettol or Savlon before the start of the trek to avoid leeches. Just let it be and remove once you reach the grassland or summit if you find any.

As soon as you exit from the forest section, nature dramatically transforms into a different background.

Now, your left side is a valley and the right side is the hill. You can see the rolling green hills of the Kudremukh region from here.

Just after 200 m of a trek, there is a steep section that leads to the first viewpoint.

The trail from here traverses through another hill before spotting the peak. This section tests your endurance and stamina.

The initial section from the viewpoint will test anybody and is steep. However, there is a proper trail marked all the way to the top.

As you traverse through the left side of the hill, you see a giant rock standing in front of you. That is the Kurinjal peak!

The view of the Kurinjal peak as you traverse through the hill. Picture by Naveen Ganiga

The trail from here gets a lot more steeper now and the most difficult section for a trekker. Your left side is exposed to the valley and the chilling wind pushes you from another side. You need to be very careful while crossing this patch.

After around 20 minutes of a climb, you reach the top. The sense of accomplishment is rewarded by the view you see after reaching there.

Find a rock to sit on. Drink some water and rest for a while. Immerse yourself in nature. The splendid view of the Kudremukh range is something you carry from the trek.

After spending an hour on the peak, you can return back through the same route, or there is another alternate route that takes you through an old building and connects to the same route in the middle of the forest.

This trail is shorter compared to the one which you climbed up. However, you do not cross the first viewpoint if you take this trail.

It will take an hour and 15 minutes to descend down.

However, if you are doing the trek for the first time we recommend you to avoid the monsoon season as some of the sections can become tricky to negotiate.

➤ Difficult Sections On The Kurinjal Peak

Kurinjal peak trek is of easy-moderate difficulty. However, there are a few sections that test your endurance and stamina. You need to be prepared for the trek to enjoy nature without feeling exhausted.

The climb just before the first viewpoint gets steep. There are loose rocks that have to be climbed carefully. You need to take the help of a co-trekker if you are a beginner.

The final climb to the Kurinjal peak is almost 80 degrees inclined. There are loose rocks that have to be negotiated very carefully. Make sure you maintain a certain distance while climbing here.

The entire trail can be slippery during monsoon season. Moss formation on the rocks makes it more difficult to trek.

➤ How To Get Fit For Kurinjal Peak

The Kurinjal Peak trek is classified as an  Easy-Moderate  grade trek. From the base, you will gain more than 1000 feet in altitude in a day.

The high altitude gain and the rolling ascents and descents can be demanding for people who lead a sedentary lifestyle.

Training yourself for an Easy-Moderate grade trek:

Here’s a guide to help you get fit for the trek in 4 weeks.

➤ Cardiovascular Endurance

In case you’re just starting with a fitness routine, start slow and increase your pace every day in the following manner –

  • Target completing a jog of 5 km in 40 minutes when you begin.
  • Gradually increase your pace by running 5 km, 4 times a week.
  • As you become more comfortable, introduce another day of running in your routine.
  • Progressively increase the distance you run in a workout until you can complete 5 km in 35 mins.

If you prefer cycling over running, target covering 18 km in 60 minutes when you begin.

  • Progressively increase your pace to cover 25 km in one hour.

➤Strength Training

This is an important area you need to work on.

Strength training is equally important to trek comfortably. Work on your glutes, calves and knees. Additionally, work on strengthening your core.

You must strengthen your core muscles. For strengthening your core muscles, holding a plank and it’s variations (elbow, side planks) are the best exercises to go about doing it.

Also, try these exercises for strength:

Target 4 sets of squats with 20 in each set.

– Squats (Mix it up with sumo squats)

– Lunges (Forward, backward and lateral lunges)

➤ Flexibility

Flexibility determines the amount of movement your bones can make in any direction around joints such as shoulders, elbows, hips and knees.

It is an aspect that will help you trek comfortably. Carrying a backpack, however light, can become a strain. Stretching your hamstrings, quadriceps, hip flexors and lower back muscles regularly, promotes relaxation in the tissues reducing the strain on your back.

If you can’t go out and jog because of time and space constraints,  here’s a video  you can use to work out indoors.

Trek Insurance

Trekking comes with its own set of risks. While adventure is fun and can be extremely thrilling, nature can be unpredictable, and to help secure you during your trek, it is of utmost importance that you are covered with insurance.

We've gone a step ahead and made sure that you don't have to worry about scouting for the best insurance option out there. When you trek with us, your insurance comes as a part of your inclusions.  To know more about the benefits covered and sum insured, click here .

Do’s and Don’ts:

  • We believe in leaving the mountains in a better condition, which is why we follow a no-litter policy on our treks. Each trekker will have to bring back the waste that is created during the trek.
  • Trekking is best enjoyed when you’ve worn comfortable clothes. Try and avoid wearing Jeans, bright colours and heavy apparels as much as possible.
  • A lighter backpack always helps you have a better trek, try and carry just as much as needed.
  • Always be in sight of your trek lead, if you feel the need to stop for any reason at all, please keep the trek lead informed.
  • If you do come across any reptiles, animals or even insects during the trek, please keep your calm and let it patiently pass by. Any kind of noise and panic will scare them as well.
  • Do not venture out into the forest/waterfalls on your own as it may be dangerous.
  • Trekking is a good adventure, having said that, it is our primary responsibility to take good care of ourselves and be compassionate towards fellow trekkers
  • If, at any point, during the trek, you feel uneasy or unwell, please inform the trek lead immediately
  • Tune in to the sounds of nature while on a trek and avoid carrying speakers or playing music during the course of the trek
  • To help you enjoy the trek to the fullest, we avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol, and other intoxicants during the course of the trek
  • Decision of the trek leader will be final and all trekkers must adhere to that.

Kurinjal in Chikmagalur is one of the most coveted trekking destinations in the South. The area surrounding the peak and the mountain range is counted under the Kudremukh National Park, and in the midst of the green region is this amazing and untouched hill, called the Kurinjal Peak. This trek to the top of Kurinjal Peak will pass through rainforests covering the slopes and the trails passing through several streams, to finally arrive at the misty summit. The sight that you get from the top of the hill will dazzle you to the highest limits of excitement. You will start from the base camp which will also be your stay for the night. You will be enjoying the coziness of comfortable tents on a double or triple-sharing basis. You will also get delicious meals during your stay here to keep you charged on this expedition of yours. The trek leads through rainforests and passes a number of streams to finally arrive at the majestic top of the peak to greet you with the most breathtaking scenery. After this, even though you wouldn't want to, you will retrace your steps back on the 7 km trek (one way) to arrive back at the base camp with loads of memories and pictures.

'Plan The Unplanned' hereby mentions that all the treks scheduled will be depended on the Weather conditions, and other favourable circumstances. We always provide you with a 'tentative schedule', that'll be followed unless any unavoidable situation arises, whereby we have to make necessary changes to our plans.

Also, note that the speed of every traveller is not the same during treks, hence it's better to maintain a stable & uniform speed so that the group can remain together.

'Plan The Unplanned' mostly organises hired vehicles, and there might be a little change in timings, as these vehicles are not regular KSTDC buses, plying always on time!

Certain things, like Weather conditions, wildlife movements, permission changes are not in our hand. In case there's a change in itinerary, we'll inform you about the same. And if a trip gets cancelled, we'll provide you with a 100% refund.

Trekking requires a certain level of fitness and a lot of patience! You'll have to walk for a certain distance, through rough terrains and lush forests, before you end up at the destination. The accommodation will mostly be in the camps or hostels/homestays. If you think you're not fine with that, please do let us know. Also, you'll have to carry your own luggage and there will be no porters.

We can't guarantee a restroom everywhere, so you need to be flexible with that as well. That's one fun part of treks! But we do provide basic facilities for our trekkers to freshen up - no worries on that note!

While utilising campsite all trekkers have to be responsible for cleaning the place (after and before using. Disposing waste such as plastic, aluminium foil or making a fire using non-degradable material is strictly prohibited.) We request every trekker to be conscious of nature and not let his/her convenience disturb the surrounding.

We expect every trekker to be respectful towards Nature, local people/tribals.

We have designated pick up and drop off points, make your own arrangements of transports to the desired pick-up point accordingly.

For cancellation of participation, we will pay your refund as per our cancellation policy.

In case of damage or loss of any of the PTU equipment or property, the responsible member has to bear the cost.

All our events are built on teamwork methodology. We would request you to follow our trek leads, as they are great coordinators and well versed with the routes. Also, it's fun to pitch tents, collect firewood from the forest, cook food, etc.

Be open to sleeping under the stars, when required! It'll definitely be an amazing experience.

We, as an organisation, shall be under no liability whatsoever in respect of any loss or damage arising directly or indirectly out of the decline of authorization for any Transaction, on Account of the Cardholder having exceeded the preset limit mutually agreed by us with our acquiring bank from time to time.

Screen Rant

Star trek: discovery season 5, episode 2 ending explained.

Saru has an eventful last day in Starfleet, while Burnham selects his surprising replacement as Star Trek: Discovery's treasure hunt continues.

WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Star Trek: Discovery, season 5, episode 2, "Under the Twin Moons".

  • Captain Burnham picks her new Number One as Saru departs after exploring a sacred planet in search of Progenitors' treasure.
  • Rayner becomes Burnham's Number One after proving commitment to the mission, diverging from Saru's suggestion of Book.
  • Discovery's next destination is Trill, setting up a reunion between Adira and Gray.

Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) selects her new Number One as Captain Saru (Doug Jones) leaves for pastures new at the end of Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 2, "Under the Twin Moons". Written by Alan McElroy and directed by Doug Aarniokoski, "Under the Twin Moons" depicts Burnham and Saru's " last dance " together, which takes them to the abandoned planet of Lyrek in the Vileen system in search of the Progenitors' treasure. Fighting off the planet's formidable security systems with assistance from Ensign Adira Tal (Blu del Barrio) and a returning Lt. Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Burnham and Saru obtain the next clue in their hunt for the Progenitors' treasure .

Meanwhile, Book (David Ajala) and Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz) attempt to create a psychological profile for Moll (Eve Harlow) and L'ak (Elias Toufexis), which reveals some surprising information. While Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 2, "Under the Twin Moons" largely focused on Saru's action-packed last day as a Starfleet officer , it also provides tantalizing teases about the backstories for Discovery 's new heroes and villains. As the reshuffled crew of the USS Discovery head toward their next location, it will be interesting to see if these new dynamics will help or hinder the hunt for the Progenitors' technology as Discovery season 5 continues.

When Does Every Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Episode Premiere (& How Many Are There)?

Rayner is burnham's new number one, discovery's saru replacement isn't a yes man..

At the start of Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 2, Captain Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie) was severely reprimanded for his reckless actions on Q'Mau, jeopardizing his future as a Starfleet officer. However, despite this, Rayner reached out to the USS Discovery, helping Tilly and Adira find solutions to Burnham and Saru's predicament on Vleen . This impressed Burnham, who recognized that Rayner's gruffness and his recklessness on Q'Mau were borne out of an unwavering commitment to the mission at hand, and an overriding desire to protect Starfleet and the Federation.

Which is why, at the end of Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 2, Burnham requests to have Rayner assigned to the USS Discovery as her Number One . Burnham's decision is also inspired by Saru, who saw her potential way back in Star Trek: Discovery season 1, even when she was a convicted mutineer. Now that Saru has left the USS Discovery, she wants to honor his legacy by giving Kellerun Captain Rayner the sort of second chance that she too was afforded.

Elias Toufexis, who plays L'ak in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, also played Cold, one of Burnham's fellow prisoners in season 1, episode 3, "Context is for Kings".

Burnham and Rayner's dynamic should be fascinating to watch during Star Trek: Discovery season 5, especially as she's made it very clear that she doesn't want him to be a " yes man ", nor does Rayner wish to be one. More interesting still is that, by selecting Rayner, Burnham is ignoring Saru's initial suggestion of her ex-lover, Book, for the role of Discovery's new First Officer . Hopefully, later episodes will drill down into why the unpredictable and reckless Rayner is a better Number One for Burnham than the man that she used to trust with her life.

"Action Saru" Has Officially Left The USS Discovery

The kelpien lives up to his nickname on his final starfleet mission..

There are moments in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 2, "Under the Twin Moons" that play on the cop show cliché of the detective being killed on their last shift before retirement. Thankfully, Star Trek 's first Kelpien doesn't meet his end on the mission to Lyrek, even if he does sustain some minor injuries while living up to his "Action Saru" nickname. While Michael believes that the nickname was given to Saru by Booker, her Number One reveals that "Action Saru" originated with Discovery's acerbic engineer, Commander Jett Reno (Tig Notaro) , who was impressed by how he handled himself in the 32nd century.

Saru's Kelpien abilities made him the ideal candidate to temporarily disable Lyrek's security systems for long enough to retrieve the next clue. Every skill that Saru possesses is on display in his final Star Trek: Discovery away mission ; moving through the jungle at speed, dodging phaser blasts, and shooting drone-destroying needles from his neck. All that's left is a final touching farewell between Saru and Burnham, in which he advises her on how to look after his garden, before he heads off to Federation Headquarters to take up his new diplomatic role.

While "Under the Twin Moons" sees Saru leave the USS Discovery, Doug Jones will continue to appear in the remaining episodes of Star Trek: Discovery season 5.

Star Trek: Discovery's 8 Best Saru Episodes

Moll and booker have a family connection, book's mentor was moll's father..

The end of Star Trek: Discovery season 4 saw Book sentenced to community service for his crimes against the United Federation of Planets and Species 10-C. After months of helping to resettle the refugees left homeless by the DMA, Book has now been assigned to the USS Discovery to track fellow Couriers, Moll and L'ak. Studying the intelligence that Discovery has acquired thus far, Book recognizes that they're a couple in love, not unlike Burnham and Book were at the start of Discovery season 3 . Convincing Moll and L'ak to talk to him, Book isn't able to lure the couple into his trap, as they once again evade Discovery.

However, Moll's birthmark reveals something more surprising; that L'ak's partner in crime is Moleen, the daughter of Book's mentor, Cleveland Booker IV . Book tells Culber that while he never met his mentor's daughter, he had seen a holo-image, suggesting that father and child were separated when Moll was around 7 years old. As Booker lost his entire family and home planet to the Dark Matter Anomaly in Star Trek: Discovery season 4 , Moll now represents the closest thing he has to a sister. However, it remains to be seen if this family connection will be enough to convince Moll to turn her back on her villainous ways.

Admiral Vance Has A History With Rayner

They saw action together after the burn..

It first becomes clear that Captain Rayner and Admiral Charles Vance (Oded Fehr) during the investigation into the events on Q'Mau. After Vance quietly chides Rayner for not helping his case, he later thanks Burnham for her words of support. Vance and Rayner's connection becomes clearer at the end of Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 2, when the Admiral reveals that the two men saw action together . Unlike Vance, Rayner is struggling to readjust to a time of peace in the Federation, warning President Laira Rillak (Chelah Horsdal) that " war is always a possibility. "

Vance and Rayner's friendship stretches back 30 years, meaning that they served together during the aftermath of the Burn. This 30-year bond enabled Vance to quietly convince Rayner to take early retirement, rather than leave Starfleet and the USS Antares, in disgrace. Admiral Vance was clearly touched when Burnham requested Rayner as her Number One , perhaps recognizing that she was the one officer who might get through to his wayward friend.

What DS9’s Kelleruns Can Tell Us About Star Trek: Discovery Season 5

Tilly is back as discovery's science advisor, she's on loan from starfleet academy..

After showing signs of frustration with the current crop of Starfleet Academy cadets in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 1, Tilly gets assigned to her old ship in the second half of Star Trek: Discovery 's season 5 premiere . On loan from Starfleet Academy, Tilly is the USS Discovery's science advisor for the duration of their hunt for the Progenitors' technology. Given that it was Tilly who unearthed the recordings of Dr. Vellek (Michael Copeman) in the first place, this only seems fair. In episode 2, Tilly teams up with Adira - who is glad to have their friend and mentor back - to provide assistance to Burnham and Saru on their mission to Vleen.

Tilly's return to Star Trek: Discovery and her interactions with Captain Rayner's hologram suggest some fun material to come for both Mary Wiseman and Callum Keith Rennie. It's also fitting that, as Saru, one of Burnham's early champions, leaves Discovery, another of her closest friends and supporters comes back aboard. Tilly is also able to lend an ear to Adira's concerns about their relationship with Gray Tal (Ian Alexander), as they become more comfortable with their role aboard the Discovery. It's therefore hard to deny that Tilly being back aboard the USS Discovery is a very good thing indeed .

Discovery Has The First Piece Of The Treasure Map

All five pieces will lead to the progenitors' technology..

With the next piece of the puzzle - a piece of patterned stone - taken from Lyrek, Captain Burnham and the crew set to work figuring out what it means to Star Trek: Discovery 's treasure hunt. Consulting Dr. Vellek's journal once again, Commander Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) sees a link between the piece of stone and the illustrations in the journal. Producing a 3D version of the sketch, Stamets and Burnham realize that the stone segment fits neatly into one of the patterned slots like a jigsaw piece .

Burnham surmises that this is one part of a treasure map that will lead to the Progenitors' technology and the source of all humanoid life in the universe. Once all five segments are assembled, it will somehow show the USS Discovery the way to where the secrets of existence are hidden. While this is an exciting development, there are still four pieces left to find, and Moll and L'ak are hot on the trail as Star Trek: Discovery season 5 continues .

The Next Piece Of Season 5's Treasure Map Is On Trill

Adira and gray are about to be reunited..

As well as the piece of the treasure map, Burnham and Saru also found a poem that provided the next location. The full poem was obscured by one of Lyrek's many statues, meaning that Moll and L'ak only read the first verses, which would lead them to Betazed. Reading further, Saru recounted the next verses of the poem, and they were words that spoke to Adira and their thoughts about Gray.

"A world like no other, where two souls entwine, join as one..."

This, combined with the mention of water, invoked memories of the Trill homeworld for Adira. As the USS Discovery heads to Trill in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 3, "Jinaal", Adira and Gray will be forced to confront their relationship. However, romantic reconciliations may need to take a backseat if Moll and L'ak are already heading to Trill to find the next piece of the Progenitors' puzzle.

To Live Long and Prosper, Do What George Takei Does

For the “Star Trek” actor and author of the new children’s book “My Lost Freedom,” it’s all about green tea and antioxidants. “I drink it every day, all day. I am an addict,” he says.

A black-and-white photo of a smiling George Takei is set against a blue and orange background.

By Leigh-Ann Jackson

When George Takei talks about his childhood, he speaks of both anguish and beauty.

The actor best known as Sulu from “Star Trek” was only 5 when he and his family — like thousands of Japanese American citizens during World War II — were relocated from their Los Angeles home to a string of incarceration camps.

Takei captured some of his family’s wartime experiences — in a horse stall in Arcadia, Calif., a camp in Rohwer, Ark., another one in Northern California — in his picture book, “ My Lost Freedom ,” due out April 16. “This is an American story that Americans need to know about,” he said in a video call.

The book continues his mission to shed light on a dark chapter in U.S. history. It follows his 1994 autobiography “To the Stars,” his 2019 graphic memoir “ They Called Us Enemy ” and the 2015 musical production “Allegiance , ” which was inspired by his life.

Takei, 86, discussed meeting dignitaries with his husband, Brad, as well as the keepsakes he treasures and his one healthy addiction. These are edited excerpts from the conversation.

Seeing Your Work in Lights

I got a phone call that the marquee for “Allegiance” was going up at 8 a.m. Our apartment was so close to Longacre Theater, in Manhattan, we ran down there to see the letters being put there. It was thrilling — a life landmark experience! I wished both my parents could be there.

At Rohwer, my father arranged to borrow a record player from the camp administration every couple of months, and after dinner, the tables were dragged away, the benches were put off to the side, and the teenagers got to have a dance. My bedtime music was the music from the mess hall. I still get a lump in my throat when I hear big band music from the 1940s.

My parents loved sending me to summer school. There was a session in Tokyo at Sophia University. I think I was 17. One of the guys came up with this idea: “They allow people to climb up to the top of Mount Fuji. Would you guys want to do that?” About a dozen of us said, yeah. When you begin, they sell you this staff. At each station they have an old man with a branding iron who’ll mark the staff; that’s proof that you reached the station. I have the whole staff with the final branding.

Dining With Presidents

Brad and I are a gay couple, I was raised in American prison camps, and we went to a State Dinner, in the White House , as guests of President Clinton in 1999 to welcome Prime Minister Obuchi to Washington. And I got another invitation from President Obama to greet Prime Minister Abe and his wife in 2015. Obama put us up on the dais, I was seated next to the first lady of Japan, and Brad was seated next to Nancy Pelosi. How about that?

Sydney Opera House

A couple of years ago, we were in Australia, and Brad was dealing with jet lag by going to bed. My attitude is, you’ve got to walk around and get the blood coursing, and a sense of the place where you are. I was walking along, and there was this street lamp advertising “The Phantom of the Opera” at Sydney Opera House. So I rushed back to the hotel, woke Brad up and said, “We’re going to go to the theater!” It was a fantastic production.

It’s one of the premier institutions in America — the place for anyone doing any kind of research on that chapter of American history. I’m a former chairman of the board, I’m still on the board of trustees, and I founded that museum with others.

Shellfish in Australia

For “Blood Oath,” we filmed right near Moreton Bay. They have these crustaceans that look like bugs, a midsize crab with a thousand tiny legs. They said this was a unique dish to Queensland. It’s a combination of the consistency of oysters and the flavor of lobster and shrimp. You have to taste it to know what it’s really like. It’s so indescribably good.

Olympic Torch

In 1984, the idea was having runners carry the Olympic flame every five kilometers all the way to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. “Star Trek” producer Harve Bennett said, “Well, George, you’re a runner. Paramount would love to sponsor you.” It was the most heady run, and I got to keep the uniform and the torch.

Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Los Angeles

When we came out of camp in 1946, the whole world opened up, and the Chinese theater was a glamorous place for me. You’ll find my name, together with my “Star Trek” colleagues, right there on that sidewalk.

I carry Ito En Oi Ocha tea bags around. They have lots of antioxidants that help you live long and prosper! I drink it every day, all day. I am an addict.
