It’s on every packing list , though we hardly need to write it down to remember it: a smartphone. Few of us travel without one these days, and more often than not, our technology haul extends beyond just a phone; a tablet or e-reader, digital camera, laptop, portable charger, and wireless headphones may be on the list, too. Whether you’re working remotely or not, chances are you’re bringing your entire digital setup with you. But throwing a tangle of cords and technology in your carry-on is a recipe for frustration when you find your face pressed up against the tray table, blindly searching for a charging cable in your under-seat bag.

Where there’s a digital device, there are its accessories, and tech organizers keep them tidy and easy to find while you’re in transit. If you like the organization of a toiletry bag for your body and skincare, why not a tech bag for your digital gear?

Travel tech organizers come in many different designs. There are hard-shell, soft-shell, folio, and roll-up varieties that are designed with different layers of pouches, elastics, zippers, and pockets. In my own experience, simple designs come out on top. Look for adjustable straps and pockets that will grow with you and your tech gear.

Everyone's needs are slightly different for their own digital Dopp kit, so you'll want to first take stock of your essentials. Lay all your gear out on a table to help determine what kind of bag will fit your tech travel setup. Then, read on for our most-recommended travel tech organizers.

The Guzo Utility Pouch is a chameleon of travel bags: Use it as a slim tech pouch that you can slide into any tote , or transform it into a handy clutch you bring to a cafe or out to dinner.

Standout features: A sleeve slips over your palm to make this bag cup into your hand, so it doesn’t slip out of your grasp while you hold it.

What we love most: It can transform into a chic clutch by night if you’re trying to pack a tight capsule wardrobe .

Dimensions: 10"L x .25"W x 7"H

Best budget pick

A tech organizer.

Tech organizers don’t have to be complicated, they just need to be easy to find in your bag when you need them. The Travelon tech accessory organizer in the color lime pops, and is easy to spot quickly, even in the dark. The roll-up design makes it compact and malleable in any bag. Made of ripstop fabric, the water- and stain-resistant exterior would also hold up on backpacking or outdoor trips if you’re stuffing it in a jam-packed hiking pack .

Standout features: The flexible roll-up design makes this ideal for tucking into empty corners of any backpack or bag.

What we love most: Malleable yet tough ripstop construction

Dimensions : 6.5"L x 1"W x 5"H

Best for remote workers

computer accessories travel bag

If you’re a digital nomad , chances are your laptop goes with you everywhere, which means chargers and accessories are a must-carry too. This Mosiso laptop bag cuts down on the number of bags and cases you need: It’s a shoulder bag, cushioned laptop sleeve, and tech organizer all in one. Available in standard 13" and 16" sizes that fit most laptops, the Mosiso keeps your laptop in a cushy cocoon with 360-degree padding. On the outside, tuck all of your laptop accessories into soft zippered pouches. Big enough to hold external hard drives and battery packs, you won’t forget them when they’re attached to your laptop.

Standout features: Keep laptop accessories in the same place as your laptop to avoid fishing around for them in another bag. Carry it like a briefcase, or attach the sling strap and make it a day bag you can bike or walk with hands-free.

What we love most: A luggage sleeve that slips over your carry-on handle

Dimensions : 16.57”L x 11.81”W x 2.36”H

Best for photographers

computer accessories travel bag

Peak Design is known for designing with the travel photographer in mind. The Peak Design tech pouch is a padded, semi-rigid carry-all that can stand upright on its own and opens like a clam with a 270-degree zipper. Interior accordion-like compartments are designed to separate key photography gear and snug elastics hug SD cards. A pen holder keeps a stylus handy in one place. Large pockets open up for charging blocks, power banks, and hard drives. An exterior zippered pouch holds need-to-reach items without unloading the whole bag. Peak Design’s proprietary anchor system and strap transform this tech pouch into a small day bag when you need it.

Standout features: A hand sleeve that slides over your palm makes this easy to open on the go without needing a flat surface to set it on. Plus, it can accommodate bulky items like a small point-and-shoot camera, a mouse, or a battery.

What we love most: The charging cable pass-through allows you to plug in your device from the outside without taking out the cable and battery.

Dimensions: 6"L x 9.5"W x 4"H

Best for Apple users

computer accessories travel bag

Both a battery pack and a tech organizer, the Function 101 BentoStack Charge 8000 is a stackable hardshell case geared toward Apple loyalists. The Charge 8000 offers three ways to charge, which can be used simultaneously: a USB-C port, USB-A port, and wireless charging. Four different storage layers provide a space for everything, which includes two shallow layers for your Apple Pencil and Apple watchbands; and two deeper layers for larger items like AirPods, charging cables, and wall charging bricks. Mix and match the layers as you like, and keep it all together with a color-matched silicon band.

Standout features: Apple’s love for minimalist design makes this Japanese–inspired tech storage box blend in seamlessly with your products.

What we love most: It’s a hefty battery bank with handy attached storage, which keeps a suite of Apple accessories tidy and juiced up on the go.

Dimensions: 7.75"L x 3.75"W  x 4.6"H

Best for everyday use

Designed to keep your laptop and phone basics handy, this neoprene organizer doesn’t leave extra space for items to slip around. Everything is kept snug using elastics and mesh pockets made of recycled plastic.

Standout features: Try it in two sizes—small and large, and swap them out for shorter or longer trips.

What we love most: The small size makes this easy to add to day bags, belt bags, or slings without taking up too much space or adding bulk.

Dimensions: Small: 4.5" L x 2.25"W x 5”H; large: 8"L x 3.25"W x 5.25"H

This lay-flat organizer has elastics for storing rolled-up cords, and a zippered pouch perfect for USBs, hard drives, or charging bricks. The trouble won’t be figuring out how to organize your tech, it’ll be choosing from one of 16 different colorful patterns that show off your style and personality.

Standout features: A mesh pouch makes loose items easy to spot and grab quickly. Elastics and snug slip pockets keep anything from spilling out when you open it.

What we love most: The array of fun colors and classic patterns you can choose from.

Dimensions: 7"L x 9.5"W x 1.5"H

Earthy, neutral colors like Aegean blue, Yuma tan, and Sedona orange are fun variations to basic black, though that is offered too.

Standout features: Choose from a small, medium, or large version depending on your needs. Or, nest them together for an agile set of organizers that grows with your packing list.

What we love most: The fleece-lined zippered pouch (in the large size) keeps your iPhone cushioned and scratch-free.

What we love most: The three-year warranty and water-resistant exterior

Best discreet organizer

computer accessories travel bag

Disguised as a leather-bound book, the CaddySack tech organizer by Twelve South is great for those who like to sprawl out at the cafe but worry their AirPods might get swiped when they’re not looking. Zip up this organizer and it turns into an incognito book. Though CaddySack designs for Apple products, the interior Velcro straps aren't limiting, so whether you're packing a Mac brick, mouse, or travel outlet adapter, it'll fit right in. Suit up all your tech in a slick literary sleeve with the rest of its BookBook cases.

Standout features: A tweed interior and leather exterior give this tech organizer a polished look and feel.

What we love most: When you’re not traveling, this case looks great on an office bookshelf as an incognito way to keep cords together at home.

Dimensions : 5.7"L x 1.6"W x 8"H

computer accessories travel bag

The Parker Clay Olivia organizer is thoughtfully designed in partnership with HGTV interior designer Sabrina Soto . Design and organization go hand-in-hand and it shows in this full-grain leather bag’s accordion construction. It separates little bits and bobs and offers quick access to everything at a glance. You don’t need two hands to unzip, unlatch, or pull open a pocket—a smart feature for hurried travelers. Grab a few of the six neutral colors and use them for toiletries, makeup, and your tech.

Standout features: Durable leather construction allows it to stand up on its own

What we love most: Details like a brass zipper pair well with full-grain leather that will age nicely with time.

Since a laptop usually comes at a high price, it’s well worth it to invest in a backpack designed to protect your technology when you’re on the go. Whether you’re traveling on an airplane or trekking through campus, a comfortable, well-made backpack with a padded laptop pocket is a must-have.

Because comfort and durability are arguably the two most important factors when investing, we tested 43 laptop backpacks on two separate occasions in our New York City lab and in the real world to find the best ones for everyday wear with these considerations in mind. We packed each bag with computers, iPads, sweatshirts, and more, and carried them around to see how they felt. We then tossed each one onto the ground from a tabletop to test the bag’s durability (using dummy laptops, of course). Keep reading to learn more about our top picks for style, comfort, value, and more.

Best Overall

Solo re:define backpack.

  • Capacity 5 /5
  • Design 5 /5
  • Comfort 5 /5
  • Durability 5 /5

The bag looks and feels compact but has a surprisingly large interior.

One of the zippers is fraying after four months of use.

Looking for a commuter backpack to take with you to the office and beyond? Solo’s Re:Define Backpack is equipped with everything a traveler or commuter needs for long days away from home. At first glance, the bag looks like a normal-sized backpack but it has a deceptively large interior with plenty of pockets to store both big and small items. The 15.6-inch laptop pocket in the back is fully padded and the bag also has an external USB port and a headphone port for traveling seamlessly with electronic devices. Even when we had the bag packed full of accessories and clothing, it felt nearly weightless and exceptionally comfortable to carry thanks to the padded and adjustable shoulder straps.

Made with recycled polyester, the backpack performed perfectly during our durability tests and didn’t sustain any scuffs or scratches after we tossed it onto the ground several times. All of the contents packed appeared to be in their original condition so we feel confident in this backpack’s protective abilities. The zippers also impressed us by being super smooth even when the bag was packed to the brim. While it’s not the most stylish backpack on the market, its functional and simple design makes it well worth it — a great option for anyone looking for a durable backpack .

Best Sustainable

Troubadour orbis 1-pocket backpack.

  • Design 4.3 /5
  • Comfort 4.8 /5

It’s made with 100 percent recycled materials that can be fully recycled if the bag can no longer be used.

The main zipper has a fabric trim over it which makes it difficult to open and close the bag.

This backpack from Troubadour is one of the most unique backpacks we’ve ever tested. Not only is the bag made with 100 percent recycled fabric but when it’s no longer able to be used, it can actually be recycled instead of going into a landfill. While we’re big fans of the sustainability of the bag, it’s also extremely comfortable to wear and looks very sleek from the outside.

The back panel and shoulder straps have lifejacket-level padding so you’ll be plenty comfortable wearing the bag for long periods of time. Your laptop will be thoroughly protected thanks to the cushioned pocket in the back — a distinguishing feature of a good laptop bag . There's an ideal amount of small and medium-sized pockets sprinkled throughout the interior and exterior so it’s easy to pack a sweatshirt, book, phone charger, keys, and more for a trip. The design and materials of the bag feel exceptionally durable, and it still looks new after four months of regular use. The only issue we ran into was with the zipper being slightly difficult to find because of the fabric hood that covers the main zipper.

The Details: 17.6 liters | 16.5 x 11.8 x 5.5 inches | 3.3 pounds | Recycled polyester | 16-inch laptop pocket

Best leather, bee & kin the midi nomad backpack.

Bee & Kin

  • Design 4.5 /5
  • Comfort 4.5 /5
  • Durability 4.8 /5
  • Value 4.8 /5

The sleek leather material looks nicer than a typical nylon backpack.

The straps are a bit too long, even when they are adjusted to the shortest setting.

Constructed with soft and sleek Italian leather, this mid-sized backpack has the perfect combination of style and functionality. It’s big enough to fit a laptop up to 13 inches long but it’s small enough that it can be used beyond traveling or commuting for everyday activities like running errands. After four months of use, we found this to be the perfect medium-sized bag that is easy to clean, making it a perfect option for everyday use. It can easily fit a laptop, water bottle, wallet, notebook, and headphones with plenty of room left over. While we love the size for versatility, it still has plenty of thoughtful features for travelers like a pocket for a wireless charger ( sold separately ) and several interior pockets for storing accessories.

The leather material has a soft and plush feel to it which makes carrying the bag comfortable but we wish the straps were a little shorter since the bag sits a little low on the back. Since the backpack is smaller and lightweight, this isn’t a huge issue and we still think the high-quality backpack is worth it for traveling, commuting, and everyday use.

The Details: 13 x 11.6 x 5.5 inches | 2.6 pounds | Leather | 13-inch laptop pocket

Best Convertible

Aer flight pack 3.

  • Value 4.5 /5

It can be used as a duffel bag or backpack.

The laptop sleeve is just a slip pocket in the main compartment.

We love that the Aer Flight Pack 3 can be used as a daily commuter’s backpack or it can be converted into a duffel bag or briefcase for a business trip or weekend getaway . There are plenty of pockets for organization with a designated laptop sleeve in the main compartment, another compartment with more than seven smaller pockets, and a small zippered pouch in the front. The laptop sleeve is only a slip pocket and, while it kept the laptop in place during our durability test, it isn’t as secure as it could be if it was a zippered pocket. We also found that there's a lot of space for clothes and tech devices for a quick weekend getaway or business trip. Because the pack is made with abrasion- and tear-resistant ballistic nylon, it feels sturdy and durable, sustaining no damage after we dropped it off a tabletop. Plus, the backpack, top handle, and duffel straps were equally comfortable when carrying the bag in all three ways.

The Details: 20 liters | 18 x 12 x 5.5 inches | 3.4 pounds | Cordura ballistic nylon | 16-inch laptop pocket

Best for Business Trips

Samsonite just right standard backpack.

  • Capacity 4.5 /5

It has a sleek, professional design with a variety of pockets for extra organization while traveling for work.

The capacity is on the smaller side.

The Samsonite Just Right Standard Backpack is thoughtfully designed with business travelers in mind. Equally professional and functional, the backpack is outfitted with a sleek nylon material, silver zippers, and a silky, purple patterned fabric lining. When we packed the backpack with a laptop, a travel tablet , a sweatshirt, and a few more small items, we were impressed with the capacity, but it likely can’t fit too much more in the main compartment. However, we love that there are pockets throughout the backpack that makes it easy to pack smaller items and stay organized between the two main compartments. The zippered laptop sleeve in the back is padded and provided enough protection to keep it safe when we dropped it from a tabletop. The padding on the back and on the straps made the backpack noticeably comfortable to wear even when it was packed full.

The Details: 16.5 x 12.25 x 5.5 inches | 2.43 pounds | Nylon | 15.6-inch laptop pocket | USB port

Best Padding

Incase icon backpack.

  • Design 4 /5
  • Value 4.3 /5

The backpack is outfitted with thick padding.

It doesn’t have a water bottle pocket or trolley sleeve.

The Incase Icon Pack thoroughly impressed us with very thick padding throughout the backpack which adds an abundance of protection and comfort. The back has a padded laptop sleeve that was noticeably thick when we first opened up the backpack. When we dropped the bag onto the floor to test for durability, none of the contents were damaged. The thick padding in the back and on the straps provides comfort while wearing the pack, and we love that the adjustable strap is lined with a soft fabric. Although we wish this backpack came with more features like a water bottle holder or trolley sleeve, the pack has two spacious compartments, a front pocket, and a variety of smaller pockets for exceptional organization on the inside making it well worth the investment for the comfortable and durable backpack.

The Details: 20 liters | 19 x 13 x 9 inches | 2.7 pounds | 840D nylon | 15-inch laptop pocket

Best Solar-powered

Solgaard lifepack backpack.

  • Comfort 4 /5

It’s made out of recycled plastic bottles found on beaches and a built in solar-powered USB charger.

The capacity is smaller than other backpacks we tested.

While this backpack impressed us during testing, it also won us over thanks to Solgaard’s sustainability mission where all of their products are made with ocean-bound recycled materials. The brand uses its patented Shore-tex material to create this backpack with recycled plastic water bottles found on beaches or river banks. In addition, the backpack includes a solar-powered USB charging port so you can charge on the go without having to worry about the life of your power bank. In the lab, we were able to fit all of the items on our packing list, including a sweatshirt, a laptop, an iPad, a notebook, and a water bottle, but there wasn’t a lot of space left over. The laptop sleeve is in the back of the bag and although it’s just a slip pocket, it wasn’t damaged during our durability tests. When it comes to padding, the backpack is outfitted with ample cushioning that makes it comfortable to wear with the adjustable, supportive chest strap, too.

The Details: 12.4 x 6.9 x 19 inches | 4.85 Pounds | Anti-theft lock | USB port

Béis The Backpack

  • Design 4.8 /5
  • Durability 4 /5

It has a simple, no-frills design for extra versatility.

It may be too large for every-day use.

We love the simple design of the Béis backpack and found that it’s packed full of thoughtful features making it the perfect backpack for travelers , students, commuters, and more. We were impressed with the large capacity of the main compartment that could easily fit all of the items on our packing list, including tech items like a laptop and iPad on the inside and a water bottle in one of the two slip pockets on the sides. The main compartment has several smaller pockets and a designated padded laptop sleeve. After we did our drop test to evaluate the durability, the padding did a good job of protecting the laptop, but there isn’t padding at the bottom of the bag which had us questioning how much protection the backpack offers. Even when it was completely packed, the padded straps were comfortable to wear and the back had more padding for added comfort, too.

The Details: 22 liters | 19 x 13 x 5.5 inches | 1.8 pounds | Cotton, PVC, polyester | 14.5-inch laptop pocket

Best Splurge

Lo & sons rowledge.

Lo & Sons

The nylon material and leather accents give the backpack a sleek look without sacrificing protection.

The laptop compartment is too small for any computers over 13 inches long.

Lo & Sons’ The Rowledge laptop backpack is one of the most expensive bags we tested, but it seriously delivered in performance. The nylon exterior outfitted with leather accents makes this sleek and timeless bag a dream for travelers and office-goers. While it may small from the outside, we found that it was possible to fit a sweatshirt, a laptop, an iPad, a notebook, and a water bottle with ease. Our only gripe is that the laptop pocket can only fit laptops that are 13 inches or smaller so you'll want to consider that if you own a larger computer. The adjustable straps and ample padding throughout the entire backpack add to the comfort and durability of the pack. Although the bag felt a little stiff at first, the material quickly contours to the shape of your shoulders and back over time for a more comfortable fit after a few wears. After tossing the bag off of a tabletop, the laptop remained unharmed in the designated sleeve in the back of the bag and the exterior showed no signs of damage so we think this sturdy, well-made backpack is worth the splurge.

The Details: 21 liters | 16.5 x 11.5 x 6.75 inches | 3.2 pounds | Nylon, leather | 13.5-inch laptop pocket

Best Budget

Tzowla travel laptop backpack.

  • Capacity 4.8 /5
  • Durability 4.5 /5

The bag has lots of smart features for travelers.

The materials feel lower in quality.

This wallet-friendly backpack exceeded expectations during testing due to all of the thoughtful designs that rivaled the most expensive bags we tested. After four months of regularly using the bag, we especially love the padded laptop sleeve that protects laptops up to 15.6 inches long. The backpack has a variety of other smart features including a USB port, a passcode lock, and a headphone port to make traveling with electronics a breeze. We found that the main compartment is very spacious and easy to pack with bulkier items like a jacket or lunchbox and the front compartment has tons of little pockets for organizing smaller items.

Made with polyester fabric, the backpack feels fairly durable and didn’t get damaged during our durability tests but it is noticeably lower quality than the other bags we tested with a higher price point. However, the straps have comfortable padding and adjustable buckles so the bag is still very comfortable to carry.

The Details: 18.5 x 11.8 x 5.5 inches | 1.83 pounds | Polyester blend | 15.6-inch laptop pocket | USB and headphone port | Password lock

Best Organization

Timbuk2 authority laptop backpack deluxe.

It has plenty of pockets for organizing all of your belongings efficiently.

The capacity could have been bigger.

The Timbuk2 Authority Laptop Backpack Deluxe has a variety of interior and exterior pockets to stay orgnaized on the go. There’s a designated spot for all of your must-haves with a padded laptop pocket in the back, a main compartment with slip and zippered pockets, and a spacious front pocket for items like a notebook. Plus, there’s a side slip pocket for your water bottle and a trolley sleeve for attaching the pack to a suitcase. We love the ability to access your laptop from the back zipper or through the main compartment of the backpack. Additionally, we appreciated the sleek pack’s compression straps so you can adjust the capacity of the bag, but we still thought the main compartment could have held a bit more. The padded backpack straps are comfortable to wear for long periods of time and if you live in a rainy climate, the durable recycled nylon exterior is also water-resistant.

The Details: 20 liters | 18.9 x 11.42 x 5.31 inches | 2.51 pounds | Recycled nylon | 17-inch laptop pocket

Everlane ReNew Transit Backpack

  • Design 4.6 /5
  • Capacity 4.2 /5
  • Comfort 4.6 /5

This lightweight backpack has a sleek and contemporary design that comes in several earthy colors.

It has a smaller capacity than many backpacks and can only fit a day or two of clothes.

If you’re looking to travel in style with a great carry-on backpack , Everlane’s The ReNew Transit Backpack is the perfect fit. Functional and contemporary, we found it to be best suited for day outings because of its smaller capacity. The bag fit all of the packing items during testing, but it would be difficult to fit much more in the main compartment. The ReNew Transit was also comfortable to wear thanks to its lightweight polyester material and compact build. The front flap of the backpack has an external pocket for smaller items, and it folds over to attach magnetically to the front of the backpack.

During our durability tests, the front magnets stayed securely together, and the body of the backpack didn’t get crushed or damaged. We liked how it can fit under an airplane seat, making it a versatile backpack when traveling, too. The laptop sleeve keeps a computer safe and there's also a water bottle holder on the side and an additional front zippered pocket below the folding magnetic lock. With five earthy tones to choose from, this is a bag to fit all travel style preferences.

Most Versatile

Monos metro backpack.

The front pocket comes off so you can travel with or without the extra space.

The original model has visible snaps when the front pocket is removed but that's been updated with the newer version.

The Monos Metro Backpack has a removable front pocket that adds quite a bit of extra space which is a game-changer for traveling. For other times when you may not need the excess room, all you have to do is pull the discrete cord in the back of the pouch to release it and take it off. Best of all, when you take off the pouch, the backpack still looks sleek and it doesn't look like any part of the bag is missing thanks to the brand's modular system for taking on and off the pouch.

We love the soft vegan leather look of the pack and found the materials to provide protection against laptop damage when we dropped it. There are several pockets inside the main compartment and the laptop pocket is in the back, separated from the rest of the bag. Whether traveling on an airplane or heading into the office, this stylish bag is ideal for those looking for a versatile backpack. It also comes in nylon fabric with more colors to choose from.

The Details: 18 liters | 11.5 × 16.5 × 6 inches | 3 pounds | Vegan leather or nylon | 15-inch laptop pocket

Bagsmart Bonchemin Laptop Backpack

The high-quality material and functional design is similar to pricier bags we tried.

You have to clip the laptop pocket with the provided carabiners otherwise the bag will open and your laptop will drop.

Rivaling higher-priced backpacks we tried, this option from Bagsmart proves that you don’t have to sacrifice quality for a lower price so we dubbed it the best backpack for its high value. During our tests, we found that this bag is spacious enough to fit a laptop, an iPad, a notebook, and a sweatshirt with plenty of room left over to add more. The backpack is made with a cushioned polyester fabric and foam padded straps that had us raving about comfort when wearing. However, because the bag is made out of fabric, it may get dirtier than a nylon pack but it didn’t show any signs of damage during our durability tests.

With four separate zippered compartments and over 10 interior pockets, travelers will also appreciate the variety of spots to organize everything. The pack also has anti-theft zippers, a USB charging port, a side water bottle pocket, and a trolley sleeve making this one of the best-designed laptop backpacks we tried.

The Details: 18.5 x 12.5 x 7 inches | 1.5 pounds | Polyester | 15.6-inch laptop pocket | USB port

Best for Photographers

Peak design everyday backpack.

  • Portability 5 /5

It comes with velcro separators for added protection for camera or video gear.

The magnetic top opening has a slight learning curve to open the backpack easily.

The Peak Design Everyday Backpack will give you peace of mind when it comes to protecting your camera or video equipment while traveling. Its structured design adds extra protection and the backpack comes with four stiff velcro separators to further protect fragile technology. Plus, the padded laptop sleeve in the back will ensure that your laptop travels safely. The icing on the cake of this backpack is how lightweight it feels to wear, especially for long periods of time. The weatherproof nylon exterior didn’t scuff or get scratched when we threw the backpack onto the floor and best of all, the laptop and iPad remained unharmed. Since the bag is designed for photographers, it comes with three separators that velcro to the side of the backpack to protect and organize camera gear. The magnetic top latch was slightly finicky to open at first, but once done, it gets easier to use.

Fjällräven räven 28.

  • Durability 4.3 /5

The backpack is comfortable and breathable to wear while walking.

The polyester blend wasn’t as durable as we hoped.

For students walking across campus or between classes, the Fjällräven Räven 28 Backpack is the best option. We love how breathable the back padding is, and that it provides plenty of cushioning and support when it's on. The design itself is not bulky, so we weren't worried about brushing up against other people while walking through crowded places during our real-world test. Plus, there are tons of pockets in the main compartment for classroom essentials, and each side of the backpack has a water bottle slip pocket.

We did notice that this bag easily collects dust or lint after it is tossed on the ground. Despite the slight dirtiness of the fabric, we found that the backpack does an excellent job of protecting a laptop in the designated padded sleeve in the back. It's not difficult to fit varying needs, even after using it on a daily commute for two months, and we found it battled the elements well, keeping a computer untouched by rain, too.

Other Laptop Backpacks We Liked

Away The Everywhere Zip Backpack : The design is sleek and functional, but we think there isn’t enough padding for comfort or laptop protection if the bag is handled roughly.

Samsonite Classic Leather Slim Backpack : The slim design is sleek and professional without sacrificing capacity, but the outer material did scuff a bit during our durability tests.

Vohler Laptop Backpack With Charger : This pack was a serious contender for the best budget bag thanks to its sturdy build and protective padding, but our pick had a few more standout features than this one.

Swissgear Travel Gear 1900 Scansmart TSA Laptop Backpack : Ideal for students, travelers, or commuters, we loved that this bag is durable and has plenty of storage solutions, but it wasn’t as comfortable as we hoped.

Between two different lab testing occasions, we tested 43 laptop backpacks from highly rated brands like The North Face, Away, Samsonite, Swissgear, and more. We evaluated each pack on a rating scale of one to five based on capacity, design, comfort, and durability.

First, to test for capacity, we used a packing list to fill the bag with a laptop, an iPad, a sweatshirt, a water bottle, a notebook, and a toiletry bag. Backpacks scoring a five for capacity were able to fit all of the packing items and provided an appropriate amount of organization solutions for the laptop, as well as the other items both big and small. During the packing process, we evaluated the design of each bag, and our top picks for the design category had plenty of padding around the laptop pocket, a variety of helpful pockets, and handles or straps that made carrying the backpack effortless and intuitive.

Then, we put on the backpacks and walked around for at least ten minutes to get a feel for the bag. We looked out for any pain caused by shoulder or sternum straps, pinching, or any other type of discomfort. The best bags for comfort were outfitted with padding in the back and straps and didn’t cause any awkwardness or irritation from the pack. To test for durability, we pushed the backpacks off of a tabletop and checked the interior contents and exterior for any scuff marks, scratches, or damage. The backpacks also went out for four months of long-term testing in the real world so we could monitor the quality and functionality to ultimately decide which products tested best .

Tips for Buying a Laptop Backpack

Check the laptop sleeve size.

Most laptops measure anywhere from 10 to 17 inches in length, so it’s important to double-check the dimensions of the laptop sleeve to ensure it fits in the designated pocket. Usually, you can find the laptop length capacity of a backpack in the “specification” description of the bag.

Padding is key for protection and comfort

The more padding around the laptop, the better protected it will be if that bag is handled roughly . Since the laptop pocket or sleeve is usually in the back of the bag, there should be padding in the back to add comfort while wearing the backpack. Also, be on the lookout for additional padding on the straps to make the bag even more comfortable to wear.

During our tests, we placed the laptop directly into the pocket without a case on it and found that the top-performing bags had enough padding to protect the laptop from getting damaged. However, if you feel more comfortable slipping it into a laptop case and placing it in the backpack, feel free to do so.

The best laptop backpacks and briefcases for traveling

Les Shu

Between the TSA and bouncing around in the overhead storage bins, laptops get tossed around during travel quite a bit, which is why having the right bag is a must. It’s also convenient to have a bag that can easily display a laptop for security purposes. So, what should you look for in a laptop travel bag?

Ideally, you want something protective, with additional compartments for organizing and storing accessories. You also want something that fits your personal style and is easy to transport. Waterproof material doesn’t hurt, either. Check out our list below to find your perfect laptop travel bag, including both backpacks and briefcases. And if you’re looking for bags that are suited for larger laptops , check out our list of the best 17-inch laptop bags  here.

Tortuga Setout

The Tortuga Setout backpack worn by a woman.

There’s a good reason why travelers love Tortuga bags. They are well-built with highly durable and weather-resistant fabrics, and they’re shaped to fit comfortably. Tortuga’s new Setout series, which we have been using for nearly all our travels as of late, has become our favorite. The Setout Backpack not only can hold a 17-inch lMacBook or laptop and accessories, but it also has a ton of room for clothes. In fact, it meets carry-on size requirements, yet can fit a week’s worth of clothing if you pack accordingly.

There are a ton of extra pockets for accessories, too, and the hip belt helps distribute the weight evenly when the bag is fully loaded (it also has a compartment for things you need to access often, like a phone or passport). From internal padding to the zippers, the Tortuga Setout feels amazingly strong. For techie nomads who travel out of their suitcases, the Setout is ideal. For short-length travel, the Setout also comes in a smaller size, called the Setout Divide ($125). Don’t have clothes? Tortuga has the Setout Laptop Backpack ($89), which features all the best attributes of the other Tortuga Setout bags, minus the extra space.

Hynes Eagle 38L Backpack

This weekender polyester backpack is one of the best options for short flights that we’ve seen, with pockets and straps for everything you could need, whether you’re going on a professional trip filled with electronics or joining your friends for a quick excursion. It has a top handle, side handle, and adjustable, hide-able shoulder straps, no matter which way you want to hold it, along with two sets of compression straps for securing all your items — and, of course, it’s designed to fit into overhead plane compartments without any trouble.

The laptop pouch is found in the roomy front organizer and is suitable for 15-inch and extra slim 17-inch laptop models.

Osprey Ozone Duplex

An Osprey Ozone Duplex backpack.

The Ozone Duplex is like having two bags. One, called the Daypack, has padded storage for a laptop and tablet, as well as other essentials. The Cargo Bag, which secures on top of the Daypack, has room for clothes and other gear. The idea is that when you get to your destination, you can detach and leave the Cargo Bag at your accommodations, while the Daypack functions as a regular backpack. The Cargo Bag has a separate shoulder strap, too, should you want to haul each separately. The Osprey Ozone is gender-specific, however — there are two versions, one for men (Duplex 65) and another for women (Duplex 60). If you tend to carry two bags anyway, the Ozone Duplex is a neat two-in-one solution.

Everki Titan

An Everki Titan backpack worn by a man at a station.

The Titan is a colossal backpack, one capable of holding an 18.4-inch laptop. This makes it ideal for anyone with a large gaming laptop who travels frequently. Additionally, the bag features several large compartments, and so you can store plenty of gear including laptop accessories and other devices (tablets, handhelds, etc.). The tablet pocket is even lined with felt, making it safe for any screen.

Although it may seem like such a large backpack would be terrible for moving through security, the titan opens up 180 degrees, so it can move through a screening machine easily. The pack’s innovative design also makes it easy to rifle through compartments and grab the specific device you want at any given moment. It may not be the right choice for every consumer, but those with mammoth laptops and an assortment of gadgets will appreciate the Everki Titan’s bountiful pockets and smart organization.

Timbuk2 Foundry Pack

If you already have a favorite luggage set for traveling, you may not want anything too large or incompatible with your other gear. Timbuk2’s slim, trim Foundry Pack is an ideal solution. It’s a backpack that plays well with luggage (including a slip-through pocket for handles), but with a focus on your electronics and meeting items. That includes an internal organizer for small bits, a laptop sleeve for laptops up to 15 inches, and a comfortable shoulder strap for changing positions. Those useful magnetic clasps also make it easy to quickly pop the pack open to find what you’re looking for. Think of it: the pack for all your quick-access business and travel stuff that’s instantly ready for whatever event you’re heading to.

Mancro Water Resistant Laptop Bag

Tumi Alpha 3 Triple Compartment Brief

It’s expensive for a laptop bag, that’s for sure. But if you’re in the market for a well-made and fashionable laptop briefcase and you’ve got the cash, why not treat yourself a little bit? But the Tumi Alpha 3 Triple Compartment Brief isn’t on our list just for its looks. It’s functional too with its tablet and laptop compartments, tons of storage for all of your little accessories (about 12 interior pockets and about 4 exterior pockets), a removable padded shoulder strap, and a laptop compartment that can fit either a 15 inch PC laptop or a 16 inch MacBook. If you travel for business often and want to do so in style, this is the bag for you.

AMD and Intel have fought for supremacy for decades, duking it out in a bid to make the best processors you can buy. The competition is fierce, and that's a great thing for PC enthusiasts. In 2024, the list of the best CPUs is larger than ever and packed with options from Team Red and Team Blue.

Intel's bang-for-the-buck king of this generation is the 14600K, but its last-gen flagship the 13900K is still well worth considering. If you're a gamer though, the 7800X3D should be the top of your list. Here's a rundown of those chips and a whole lot more.

HP 14-inch Chromebook — $159, was $299

The HP 14-inch Chromebook is a fast and fun computing device. It is a great option for anyone searching the best laptops for high school students or the best laptops for college. It has an Intel Celeron processor and 4GB of system RAM that combine to push through homework assignments, work presentations, and hours upon hours of binge watching. The 14-inch screen sports HD resolution, and makes this HP Chromebook a great way to enjoy movies, photos, and other digital content. It has a minimal design that makes it as portable as any Chromebook. The HP 14-inch laptop is able to reach up to 14 hours of battery life on a single charge, making it a great all-day option for people who like to do their work on the go.

Gaming laptops used to all look the same. For the most part, they were thick, loud, and ugly.

Not so today. There's a huge range of diversity in gaming laptops, which range from elegant portables to bombastic heavyweights. Considering the complexities of balancing performance, portability, and good looks makes it a hard enough decision to start with. Throw in the fact that, increasingly, people are also using their gaming laptop for work and school -- and you have a seriously difficult decision to make.

The Best Bag and Cable Organizers

Several bag oranizers

Whether you commute to the office, the coffee shop, or your backyard, you probably need a way to organize the pens, tech accessories, and toiletries you take with you every day.

To find the best options for different people to carry what they might need with them, we’ve researched more than 70 bag organizers and tested 31 of them, and we’ve found five organizers we like for their style, durability, and usability.

Some backpacks and purses come with all the pockets and loops you could possibly need, but others are black holes, swallowing charging cables, tubes of lip balm, and just about everything else. For people who have the latter kind of bag (and I count myself among them), the right bag organizer simplifies grabbing accessories while you’re on the go, or when you’re moving gear from one bag to another.

But everyone has different carrying needs, which is why we have picks to suit a variety of situations: a tech-forward cable organizer that zips closed , a customizable mesh-pouch setup , and a stylish duo of cosmetics travel pouches made of premium materials —as well as some alternatives where applicable.

The research

Best for chargers and cables: incase nylon accessory organizer, most customizable: the container store black micro mesh pouches, also consider: vaultz mesh storage bags, best for toiletries (and tech): osprey ultralight roll organizer, for luxe organizers: cuyana leather travel case set, how to choose a bag organizer system, how we picked and tested, the competition.

a bag organizer surrounded by various small objects, like chargers and pens

Incase Nylon Accessory Organizer

Best for tech and gadgets.

A slim, light, and water-resistant bag that keeps your gear organized, accessible, and secure when you’re on the go.

Buying Options

Incase’s Nylon Accessory Organizer is temporarily out of stock. Incase has told us that it should return in early 2024.

Get this if: You want a sturdy, lightweight, waterproof organizer to corral all of your gadgets and chargers as well as some toiletries or cosmetics in one place.

Why it’s great: The Incase Nylon Accessory Organizer has plenty of room for everyday gear; it zips closed, so items won’t get lost or fall out; and it’s water-repellent.

The Incase bag is roughly the size and shape of a large paperback, and like a book it opens flat from a spine. It’s 2 inches thick, which is among the slimmest we found for this type of bag, but it still has enough space to stash most of what we carried for a day . It has two medium-sized loops that can hold two 5 W USB power adapters or multiple pens. It has an external zip pocket with a cable-sized hole leading to the inside. We love this feature because it’s great for charging a phone without removing the external battery pack from the main compartment. It also has a large, padded pocket lined in faux fur that won’t scratch delicate phone screens. The bag’s inside flaps have a mesh pocket that is big enough to store a MacBook power adapter (with the cord in a different pocket), five more mesh or solid pockets of various sizes, a small zip pocket ideal for SD cards, a pen loop, and three small elastic loops that are the right size for earbuds.

The Incase Accessory Organizer bag organizer, full of cables and makeup and other small items needed for a typical day.

With all of the organization slots, your gear stays neatly in place, even if you drop your bag. None of the items got tangled or moved about when we shook and flipped this Incase bag around. This wasn’t the largest bag we looked at, due to its slim design, but it will hold most of what you need for the course of a day.

This bag is a poly-nylon blend, so it’s durable. In our tests, some bags, like one from Bagsmart , ended up scuffed and discolored from rubbing against the cables we loaded into the bags—but the Incase stayed pristine. The Incase was one of two cable-organizer bags we tested for our 2019 update that successfully repelled water—not just from the exterior material, but also along the piping, which is where other cases often failed and liquid soaked through, potentially damaging your important gear.

Flaws but not dealbreakers: The Incase cable organizer is a soft-shell bag, so its contents can distort the bag’s shape when full. But the bag’s edges remain rigid—so the seams don’t pucker—it’s contents don’t fall out, and zipping and unzipping the bag is still easy.

the Container Store mesh bag organizer, surrounded by small objects like cables and pens

The Container Store Micro Mesh Pouches

Our favorite pencil pouch bag.

Affordable, smooth-zipping, mesh pouches that let you see what’s inside for a modular approach to organization.

For more colors, visit containerstore.com .

Get this if: You prefer to have different bags for different kinds of gear—phone cables, cosmetics, pens and notepads—so you can grab only what you’re going to need.

Why it’s great: The Container Store Micro Mesh Pouches are a no-frills solution for keeping your cables and toiletries organized while being able to clearly see what’s inside. These pouches are made of a finer mesh than other mesh bags we tested, so smaller items, such as pens and hairpins, won’t fall through the holes. The material also has some give, so you can stuff the bag without fear of splitting a seam. And we found the zipper to be the smoothest among those of all the pouches we tested.

A Container Store mesh bag organizer, with the cables it holds inside clearly visible through the mesh material.

These pouches are great for mixing colors and sizes to match your organizational needs. They come in three sizes and four colors; we recommend the two smaller bags because they’re easier to carry and load into a backpack or tote bag. We also like assigning each bag’s contents a different color, so it’s easier to grab the right items in an instant. That way you can have one bag for gadgets and accessories you take when flying, say, and another for the makeup you bring to work for touch-ups, and you can easily know which one to grab on the way out the door. (Jada Yuan, writer of The 52 Places Traveler at The New York Times, parent company of Wirecutter, also uses these bags. )

Flaws but not dealbreakers: Because the bags are covered in tiny holes, liquids will spill in and out of them, and they’re not ideal if you want complete privacy for your toiletry items. As a workaround, we recommend storing your toiletries in a black micro-mesh bag because the darker color will mask the bag’s contents better than the lighter ones.

Sizes: 7¾ by 4 inches; 7½ by 3 by 5 inches; or 14¼ by 10½ inches (but we think this bag is too big for most people)

Colors: aqua , black , pink , or silver

several Vaultz Mesh Storage Bags bag organizers surrounded by small objects like chargers and pens.

Vaultz Mesh Cord Bags

For wrangling big cables.

These mesh bags are affordable, but the larger mesh holes make them better for bulky items and thick cable cords than smaller bits.

Get this if: You like the idea of organizing your stuff into a collection of mesh bags, but you don’t want to spend a lot—and you don’t tend to carry very, very small items.

Why we like it: Wirecutter senior editor Dan Frakes likes the Vaultz Cord Storage Bags as modular storage at a fraction of the cost of other bags. The mesh bags are sold in a pack of four for just $8 at the time of writing, while The Container Store pick starts at $5 each. These zip pouches are lighter and more pliant than any other bag we tested, and can scrunch into a tight ball when not in use and still rebound to their original shape. Each pack comes in a combination of four different sizes and colors. This makes it easy to organize your gear and grab the right pouch from your travel bag in an instant. You can separate daily tech and toiletry supplies into two bags, keep a driving kit in your car for phone mounts, pack charging cables and adapters in another, and save the last one for important documents when you’re traveling out of town.

Three Vaultz mesh bag organizers in different colors and sizes, each holding different objects.

Where it falls short: These mesh bags aren’t great for storing smaller items (such as earbuds and pens) because it’s easier for them to get caught in the holes or fall out. And because the bags are made of mesh they’re not waterproof.

Sizes: 9 by 9¼ inches; 5½ by 9 inches; 5 by 8 inches; 5 by 7 inches

Colors: black, red, orange, and yellow; or mint, pink, purple, and blue (for $6 more)

Osprey UltraLight Roll Organizer

A slim toiletry bag.

Slim, but organized, with plenty of pockets and a loop to hang it from.

Get this if: You want a bag that packs slim and lets you see most of your stuff at a glance, but you don’t need it to be waterproof, and you don’t mind unrolling the whole bag to remove a single item.

Why we like it: The Osprey UltraLight Roll Organizer is what Wirecutter deputy editor Michael Zhao uses to organize his cables and gear. Its dimensions (6 by 3 by 9 inches) make it the slimmest toiletry bag we tested, but it still packs plenty of storage space and organization features. Its combination of full-width, slimmer mesh compartments—great for cables, adapters, and pens—and a deeper pocket for accommodating bulkier chargers, batteries, and toiletries give you a lot of packing flexibility. You can see almost everything inside when the bag is fully opened and it folds into thirds like a letter for packing away.

computer accessories travel bag

The bag is also easier to spot-clean than other toiletry bags we tested. Both sides are made of ripstop nylon, which is slicker than canvas or ballistic-nylon bathroom bags, so it’s painless to wipe off lotions and liquid makeup foundation spills.

Where it falls short: In our tests, we found the Osprey cumbersome to both unbuckle and unroll to access a particular item. It’s not as intuitive to use as other picks, which you can just unzip. On the other hand, it has the benefit of letting you see what’s in each pocket at a glance without having to rummage through any dark compartments.

This toiletry bag also isn’t waterproof (the Dsptch Dopp Kit was the only truly waterproof toiletry bag we looked at). And a very, very small number of Amazon reviewers reported seams and mesh pockets ripping after just a couple months of use.

If you want a dedicated toiletry bag that’s compact and spill-proof, check out our guide to the best toiletry bags .

Cuyana Leather Travel Case Set

Our favorite luxury cosmetic bag.

Sturdily constructed, with smooth zippers and an easy-access clamshell design, these two bags retain their shape even when full of gear.

Get this if: You want a nicer-looking, more elegant way of carrying your accessories—and won’t miss individual compartments and lots of internal organization.

Why it’s great: We like the Cuyana Leather Travel Case Set because they’re a pair of two beautiful leather bags that are big enough to hold our essentials, and they have a broad base that keeps them upright when opened up. The clamshell bags come in 13 different jewel and pastel colors, and are made of Argentine leather with synthetic leather linings. The exterior leather is pebbled, which is easier to maintain a good grip on than the smooth, soft leathers of some other bags we tested. Each bag has gold- or silver-toned zippers that run effortlessly across their teeth. And the stitching throughout the bags is clean, and we didn’t find any signs of loose seams.

computer accessories travel bag

The Cuyana set is sold with a large (7 by 12 by 3½ inches) and small bag (5 by 8 by 2½ inches small). We easily fit our daily essentials in both cases, and closed them without having to force them like some other bags we tested. The organizers are spacious and the leather shell is thick, so they don’t warp when full. And the wide base makes each bag sturdy, so it won’t tip over either. Thanks to the clamshell design, the duo open wide enough to store bulky chargers and power adapters, along with everything else. The bags’ wide mouths also make it easier to search for objects that get lost in the bottom of the bag.

Flaws but not dealbreakers: We like that the Cuyana set comes with two bags, but feel that the larger one is too big to cart around daily with our other commuting gear. The large Cuyana is 7 by 12 by 3½ inches, which could be challenging to stuff into a backpack, messenger bag, or tote. The smaller clutch is a more manageable size at 5 by 8 by 2½ inches, and can easily fit into another bag. Both Cuyana bags lack multiple pockets and loops, so unsecured cords may tangle. (The large bag has one pocket; the small bag doesn’t have any). If you don’t plan on using both bags regularly, the $110 to $125 price may be prohibitive.

The Argentine leather requires delicate care, so if you’re rough with your accessories or are prone to spilling liquids and lotions, this bag isn’t for you. Cuyana recommends wiping small blotches with a damp cloth or leather cleaner, and consulting a leather-cleaning professional for serious stains.

computer accessories travel bag

The easiest way to decide what type of organizer you need is to inventory the accessories you cart to and from work each day, then look at how you transport those items already, and how that systems works for you. For example, if you prefer to have many small bags for different situations, and you carry your gear in sandwich bags, a pouch system might work. Or, if you want to have everything with you at all times, and tend to just throw everything into in a big void in your backpack, the way to go may be a toiletry bag, traditional cable organizer, or makeup clutch.

Here’s a look at the different types of bag organizers we reviewed.

Pencil pouches are ideal if you prefer a minimalist and modular approach. They lack pockets and loops, and you can purchase as many as you need without paying for pockets you have no need for. These bags are often sold in different sizes so that you can divide your gear among them to your personal preference. They are likely to hold less gear per pouch and less likely to be waterproof than other bags we tested.

Cosmetic bags and toiletry/Dopp kits are pretty similar. They typically have a large main compartment and minimal organizational features—often a sole pocket or limited elastic loops. Unlike pencil pouches, most cosmetic bags and toiletry kits are opaque, so no one will know you’re packing a menstrual cup next to a multiport adapter . Most of the bags we tested in the category weren’t waterproof, including most toiletry bags.

Traditional cable organizers come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and styles. They can fold closed like a book, roll flat like a blanket, or have a flat, open grid system like a placemat. Our favorite style is a zippered book, which allows you to store gear in both covers, as well as the spine. They also come with more pockets and elastic loops than roll or grid organizers, and smaller gear won’t fall out of the bags like they can with the other styles. Many of these bags are marketed as water-repellent, but in our tests, those claims didn’t always live up to the hype.

We’ve researched dozens of bags over the past two years by browsing everything from manufacturer websites to bag enthusiast blogs. For our most recent update, we found seven new tech bags and tested the four we liked for their style and versatility; we also looked at their third-party reviews.

In 2018, we compiled a list of more than 65 options and divided them into four categories: pencil pouches and mesh bags, cosmetic bags, traditional cable organizers (which includes zip books, roll bags, and grid sheets), and toiletry bags. (For this guide, we didn’t review purse organizer inserts because that’s a different category entirely.) We considered each bag’s design, size, organizational features, materials used, price, and online owner reviews. Then we shrunk the list by consulting a small panel of Wirecutter staffers about what they prefer in a bag, and considered some bags that staff members loved. That left us with a spread of 27 bags to accommodate various tastes. We tested the bags based on the following criteria:

Overall design: We reviewed each bag’s materials; the elasticity of elastic loops; the smoothness of zippers; and advanced features, like customizable compartments.

Bag configurations: We filled each bag with a day’s worth of the accessories (below) a person might need when traveling to work each day, looking for bags that could hold more gear and were easier to organize:

  • 1 USB flash drive
  • 1 Lightning–to–3.5-mm headphone jack adapter
  • 1 earbud set
  • 1 laptop multiport adapter
  • 1 external battery
  • 1 USB power cord and adapter
  • 1 travel-size bottle of lotion
  • 1 bottle of hand sanitizer
  • 1 small notepad
  • 1 small pill bottle
  • 1 makeup brush
  • 1 makeup compact
  • 3 hair ties
  • and a partridge in a pear tree

Shape retention: We tried closing the bags when stuffed with gear, and noted which bags deformed under the pressure.

Contents retention: We zipped each bag, shook it around, and opened it again to see if its contents had flown about.

Waterproofing: We ran each closed bag under a kitchen faucet with a spray setting for five seconds. We took any bags that remained dry, filled them with 2 tablespoons of water, and checked them for leaks.

Community review: We asked 18 people to share their thoughts on their favorite bags from our test pool.

Assorted bags/pencil pouches

The Custom Leathercraft 3 Multi-Purpose Clip-on Zippered Bags are better suited for your home toolbox than an everyday gadget bag. The trio of pouches are made of canvas, so they’re tough, and sharp nails and needle-nose pliers won’t damage them. The canvas was rougher than our panelists preferred, and most staffers found the dark colors unattractive. Many of us also prefer pouches that are transparent because we don’t like guessing what’s stored in each bag in the set.

The IPOW BD02 pencil pouches are sold in a set of four. We liked the fun floral patterns and traditional pencil pouch shape. But the bags weren’t big enough to hold more than a single bulky item, such as a laptop charger. The zippers also stuck and some broke during our tests.

The five bags in the Modern Bethel Travel Pouch Set are covered in vinyl, so they’re waterproof. But in our tests, the seams weren’t stitched cleanly and the bags leaked water. We also found that the larger bags (13¾ by 10½ inches and 11 by 8¼ inches) are so big that they’re as bad as just leaving things loose in your backpack or purse to begin with.

The Muji Double Fastener Case (medium) was great for storing the small gear on our list. But it couldn’t hold our bulkier items without permanently deforming the polyester bag. It’s also not waterproof, so a spilled soda or leaking lotion bottle would damage its contents.

Cosmetic bags

The BUBM cord and cosmetic organizer is a two-way makeup and brush bag that’s convertible to store tech gear as well. The top is a traditional makeup bag, and the bottom unzips horizontally to store brushes, tablet pens, and skinny cable cords. But the main compartment isn’t big enough to carry most of the accessories on our list. And the padded chamber absorbed leaking water, which means that it could retain the stinky odors of other spilled liquids over time.

The Chiceco Handy Makeup Pouch offers better privacy than our pick from The Container Store because it’s made of 100D Oxford nylon and not micro mesh. It’s small enough to carry with one hand, and is flexible and durable enough to cram full with gear without fear of it tearing. But the zipper broke during testing, making the bag virtually impossible to use.

The Leatherology Clamshell Makeup Bag is sold in two sizes (medium and large) or as a set. Both sizes were great for splitting the storage of our tech gear and personal hygiene items. We liked that both bags have zip pockets, and the clamshell design was ideal for finding small items hiding at the bottom of the bag. But the leather was too soft, and it was easy to scratch and scuff during normal use. Leatherology allows only a 30-day return window and only for unused gear, which isn’t ideal for a product that costs $85 to $180. The company also doesn’t offer a warranty, but a spokesperson said, “[W]e stand behind our products and take care of our customers.” Yet we called the customer service line twice and never spoke with a live person (once, we stayed on hold for 30 minutes before giving up and ending the call). Note: As of January 2020, Leatherology now offers a one-year limited warranty against defects in materials or craftsmanship, but we still prefer the quality, style, and look of our Cuyana picks.

Toiletry bags

2020 testing:

After two years of testing, we dropped the Dsptch Dopp Kit as a pick. Originally, we liked that its design worked for carrying both cables and lotions because the main compartment had three wide elastic loops that comfortably fit bulky toiletries (like sunscreen) and tech accessories (like charging bricks) beside each other. But the main compartment can’t fully unzip, so it’s harder to peer into and harder for larger hands to dig inside. Similarly, the side compartment’s padded valet tray takes up valuable space, and when the tray was in place, we had trouble quickly grabbing an item from that section without fully unzipping the bag.

2018 testing:

The Herschel Supply Co. Chapter Travel Kit measures 18 by 4½ by 6 inches, so it holds our essentials with plenty of room to spare. But its large size also means it was way too big to carry each day. This Dopp kit also isn’t waterproof.

Traditional cable organizers

The Aer Cable Kit was a previous pick, but it has been discontinued. We reviewed its successor, the Aer Cable Kit 2 , which isn’t as practical as our Incase pick. The Aer Cable Kit 2 has redesigned pockets and loops, but the storage compartments are less useful in this iteration because they’re more uniform, which means it’s harder to find a spot for odd-shaped gear. And the main compartment is lined in a fleece-like material that’s not very soft.

We don’t like the Bellroy Tech Kit because the metal zipper is sticky, the storage compartments aren’t ideal for smaller pieces like USB flash drives and earbuds, and the pockets aren’t taut or zippable, so items can easily fall out in transit.

The Dagne Dover Arlo Tech Pouch (large) is a good size if you regularly carry large tech accessories such as a charging brick or docking station, but for most commuters, it’s too big and ungainly. It’s difficult for people with small hands to carry in one hand, it doesn’t rest flat along the spine when open, and the chunky plastic zipper is stiff and hard to maneuver.

The Knomo Thames Knomad Organizer is slim enough to stash inside a briefcase, but its wide design makes it harder to carry in one hand while you’re juggling gear as you dash from conference room to conference room. And although it’s made of water-resistant polyurethane, the material is slightly rough, not as refined as the material in our other picks.

2019 testing:

The Bond Travel Gear Escapade Pouch has a rough nylon exterior, inconsistent stitching quality, and zippers that catch, making it hard to open and close.

Eagle Creek Etool Organizer Pro lacks a microfiber lining and padding to protect delicate objects, and there’s limited space to secure smaller items, like thumb drives. Water also leaks through the zippers.

The Native Union Stow Accessory Organizer ’s leather exterior shows wear and tear easily, and the zippers are difficult to use.

The Peak Design Tech Pouch opens like an accordian-style file folder, so gear won’t fall out when you open it. But this was the hardest bag to open that we tested, as the zipper frequently got stuck on the thick piping that was designed to prevent leaks.

The Tom Bihn Snake Charmer is an upright bag with dual mesh compartments (like a dopp kit). But it's surprisingly bulky (up to 5 inches deep), and it’s also not waterproof, so tech gear won’t survive a soda spill. For non-water-resistant options, we prefer our Vaultz Mesh Storage Bags because they’re sold in a pack of four for just $8 at the time of writing, are modular and big enough for larger cables, and pack down flat for easy storage.

The Welden Nylon Accessory Organizer is well-made and stylish, featuring a modern hexagonal weave pattern on the exterior that’s sure to attract attention. But its small size (4.7 by 7.78 by 2.75 inches) has limited storage space, which won’t work for most people commuting with all of their gear. It’s also pricey ($80 at the time of writing), and we think our luxe pick, the Cuyana Leather Travel Case Set , is a better deal (currently two bags for $110).

Leatherology Small Tech Bag Organizer has three elastic loops, but the loops loosened after just a couple of uses. The bag is made of soft full-grain leather, which scratches easier than what we would like from a $65 bag. (You can upgrade to the firm, full-grain German leather bag for $100.) This bag is also subject to Leatherology’s limited 30-day return window (described above).

Both Bagsmart bags we looked at have plenty of loops and slots for our gear, but it felt weird putting toiletries in such a techie-looking pouch. Model Travel Universal Cable Organizer (BM0200044B001) wasn’t waterproof. And though the  Thicken Cable Organizer (BM0200064A001)  model did repel water, its inside wasn’t very durable and got scuffed up by our bulky laptop cable.

Our packing cube pick, the Eagle Creek Pack It Quarter Cube (extra-small) was too flimsy to hold our gear.

The Hynes Eagle Travel Accessories Organizer was too small to hold even half the gear on our list. The floral pattern on the bag was grainy and looked cheap. The bag also wasn’t waterproof.

The Power Packer is durable, looks nice, and is big enough to store bulky cables, external power packs, and travel adapters. Although that’s exactly what it’s designed to carry, most of our testers found it big for everyday use. And the knitted fabric accents absorbed and leaked water to other sections of the bag.

The Skooba Design Cable Stable DLX that we recommend in our guide The Best Gear for Travel is, at 12 by 9 inches (compared with the 9½ by 6 inches of the Incase), a bit too big to take with you daily, and its smaller sibling the Skooba Cable Stable Mini lacks internal zippered pockets for keeping small items like SD cards in check.

Our former budget pick from that same guide, the AmazonBasics Universal Travel Case , has a hard shell that makes it awkward to fit in some bags and less accommodating to big and small loads, and its internal pockets are loose and prone to objects moving around in transit.

Q: What Travel Accessories Do I Need?

When you're traveling, you must have all the accessories you need to keep your tablet or laptop functional. You'll need to consider portable chargers, external storage, and other accessories that make traveling a lot easier. There are some commonly handy devices to keep with you, like a mobile hotspot, wireless headphones, and an external mouse and keyboard.

Q: How Can I Carry My Laptop While Traveling?

You'll need a decent and protective bag to store your laptop in while traveling. Ensure you find a bag that's suitable for storing a laptop in, so it doesn't move around when you're traveling. You'll also need to consider additional storage compartments for chargers, cables, and your other devices.

Q: Are Travel Accessories Repairable?

Most travel accessories like cables, chargers, and hard drives come with a manufacturer's warranty. If your travel accessories stop working or don't work in the first place, be sure to check the instruction manual to ensure you've set up your accessories correctly. Many travel accessories are affordable, so if they break while traveling, you can easily replace them.

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

This laptop backpack from Volher is the best option for most travellers, combining practical storage with an eye-catching, vibrant design. Inside the bag’s main compartment, there’s a padded sleeve for any 15.6-inch laptop and open storage for clothes, snacks, or other travel essentials. Its durable fabric makes this backpack an excellent choice for hiking trips or other outdoor excursions, especially if you choose one of the bright, high-visibility color options. With padded mesh on the back and the shoulder straps, it’s comfortable to wear for long hours.

This travel bag also has a special feature: a built-in USB charging port. The port itself is on the bag’s left side, and there’s a cable inside you can connect to a power bank. Then, while you’re hiking or walking around Disney World, you can easily charge your phone without needing to take the backpack off or hold onto a power bank.

In many ways, the search for the perfect travel laptop backpack is just like searching for a work- or school-dedicated backpack. Most importantly, consider what you’ll need in terms of total space and organizational compartments. Make sure the backpack you choose can accommodate your laptop, travel snacks and drinks, handheld gaming console or books to read for fun, however many changes of clothes you need for your trip, or anything else you’d typically bring along while traveling.

Many backpacks will list whether they can accommodate 15.6-inch or 17-inch laptops, and some brands will list the specific dimensions of the laptop sleeve or compartment within the backpack. In addition to comparing the measurements of your laptop to those advertised by a potential backpack, consider whether you want a dedicated zipper compartment for your laptop or if a padded sleeve inside the main compartment will do.

With laptop backpacks for travel specifically, there are two useful features to look out for: hidden pockets and a USB charging port. Some backpacks come equipped with a zipper compartment positioned on the side or the back of the bag, making it incredibly difficult or impossible for someone to pickpocket what’s inside. These pockets are perfect for your valuables, like your wallet, smartphone, or keys.

Then, some bags include a USB charging port accessible on one side of the backpack and a cable inside that you can attach to a power bank you own. This allows you to comfortably charge your phone without needing to carry the power bank while you walk around a theme park or sit in the backseat during a road trip. With some travel backpacks, you can slip your phone into a side pocket so you don’t need to carry it, but it’s easily accessible when you need it.

If you plan on traveling via plane, you should see if the backpack complies with TSA guidelines. Then, check with your airline to get minimum dimensions for overhead and under-seat luggage to ensure you won’t need to check your backpack at the last minute and pay a premium.

For backpacks going under the seat in front of you on a plane, it’s a smart choice to go with a water-resistant polyester fabric that’s easy to clean and can withstand accidental spills. Durable, water-resistant fabric is also a smart choice if the place you’re traveling to gets a lot of rain or if you’re exploring outdoors at the beach or on a mountain.

InStyle / Brian Kopinski

Whether it be a simple, daily commute or a business trip that lasts an extended period, for those who are often on the go, protecting your laptop can be one of the number one priorities during travel of any kind. Whether used for work or not, most people can’t go anywhere without their computers, so finding a laptop bag that will keep one of your most prized possessions secure is of utmost importance. Not only do the best laptop bags need to function, but they also have to keep up with your busy lifestyle.

Keeping in mind versatility, aesthetics, and purpose, we tapped three experts to give their useful tips on what is important to look for when searching for the best laptop bags (hint: high-quality materials and organizational details are all high on their lists), along with their go-to styles and a few InStyle favorites in between. Below, find the 25 best laptop bag styles that work for every office environment, commute, or travel destination.

Best Overall

Quince italian leather triple compartment work tote.

What We Love: This is made from high-quality leather without the retail markup.

What We Don’t Love: The padded compartment only fits a 13-inch laptop.

Quince was founded with the belief that everyone should have access to nice things without spending a fortune. It’s no surprise that the generously-sized leather tote is made from top-grain, Italian leather, that has been Leather Working Group-certified , without the retail markup that you’d find at top competitors. The minimalist-friendly design has long, shoulder straps so the weight can be balanced across your shoulders, while inside, you’ll find a designated, padded pocket that fits a 13-inch laptop and other organizational compartments to store everything you need for a day out and about.

Actor and content creator Courtney Halverson is a fan of this bag, as well. “This one has a bit more of a softness to it, and I imagine the leather would wear beautifully over time,” she says. “I like that there is no overt branding and the external large pouch pockets would be perfect for packing along a Kindle, sunglasses, and other essentials.”

Material: Leather | Dimensions: 15 (W) x 10.5 (H) x 5 (D) inches | Weight: 1.93 pounds | Closure: Snap, zipper | Colors:  3

Best Size Range

Marc jacobs the leather medium tote bag.

What We Love: The classic yet contemporary design in high-quality leather.

What We Don’t Love: The crossbody strap is on the thinner side and might be uncomfortable after long hours of wear.

The Tote Bag is one of Marc Jacobs’ most iconic handbags and is also a great fit for carrying around your laptop. “Perfect for those who want to be cute but have to carry around their laptops and need something that fits their style,” tech content creator Tayllor Lloyd recommends. “These come in a ton of different styles and sizes.” Both Lloyd and one of our other experts prefer the medium size.

The spacious design is complimented by a sturdy, leather fabrication that will wear supremely well over time. “This is a classic tote bag that won't go out of style,” content creator and influencer Sarah Lapierre says. “It has a detachable strap and multiple pockets and compartments for organizing. Made to last and great color options, as well.” The embossed “The Tote Bag” on the front proves this is the real deal. Additional design details include an extra-long strap that can be worn crossbody instead of the two top handles.

Material: Leather | Dimensions: 13 (W) x 10 (H) x 5 (D) inches | Weight: 2.3 pounds | Closure: Zipper | Colors: 6

Best for Travel

Béis croc embossed work tote.

What We Love: The additional, crossbody strap that allows for multiple ways to carry.

What We Don’t Love: Vegan leather generally doesn’t wear as well as real leather over time.

Two of our experts also recommended Béis’ Croc Embossed Work Tote. The brand was founded by Shay Mitchell to make travel smarter and easier. “This one is so chic, and I love that it has a sleeve to attach to your luggage for travel,” Halverson says. “Multiple strap options make it a more comfortable choice, and it comes in a few colors, although I'm partial to the croc.”

The widened shoulder straps make for a more comfortable hold, while a trolley pass-through allows you to fit this perfectly on the handles of any suitcase when in transit. Lapierre also enjoys the function of multiple straps but calls out the many organizational features this bag has to offer, as well. “[This] has interior and exterior zippers, a smartphone pocket, a key ring — so you never lose them in your bag — and a back, slip pocket for easy travel,” she says.

Material: Vegan leather | Dimensions: 14.25 (W) x 11 (H) x 6 (D) inches | Weight: 2.7 pounds | Closure: Zipper | Colors:  3

Best Fashion-Forward

Cuyana sling bag.

What We Love: The bag is machine-washable.

What We Don’t Love: There are minimal organizational pockets on the inside.

Style and function can coexist when you are using Cuyana’s oversized, sling bag. This canvas crossbody is not your typical laptop briefcase — but when put to the test, we found that it holds up ideally in the category. The sleek design is simple, but with plenty of functional details and the use of smart, eco-friendly materials, it makes it a must-try on our list.

We found that the wider shoulder strap doesn’t slip off the shoulder, and since it isn’t a heavy bag, even when stuffed, it doesn’t feel terribly uncomfortable. The zipper opens and closes with ease thanks to a larger pull, and doesn’t get stuck when in use, which can be a major deal breaker during testing, in our opinion. Although lacking in lots of internal pockets, a laptop fits comfortably and safely inside. The best part is the bag is entirely machine-washable. So, when accidental spills and stains arise, it can be cleaned in an hour without a specialist. Be sure to opt for the oversized option, since there is also a small and medium size, to ensure your laptop will fit comfortably.

Material: Knitted from recycled landfill plastic | Dimensions: 18 (W) x 12.5 (H) x 6 (D) inches | Weight: 2.11 pounds | Closure: Zipper | Colors:  2

Best Waterproof

The north face base camp voyager.

What We Love: The fabric is made from recycled materials.

What We Don’t Love: It only comes in two colors.

Whether you are headed to the office or out on a weekend excursion, The North Face Base Camp Voyager bag is going to keep your goods dry (believe us, we tested it and liquid beads off). Rather than having an open top like a tote shape, your computer and more will keep dry with the help of the foldover flap. The recycled fabrication is also abrasion-resistant, so regular wear and tear will not affect the life of the bag.

Pockets and functionality were considered with high regard here. We liked the numerous external pockets on the exterior, for easy access to your phone, wallet, and more. Inside, the main compartment that was designed for your laptop, is lined with a soft, fleece material to keep it protected. There is even a little clip for your keys inside, too. The wide, shoulder strap is heavily padded, and with testing, we found it to be very comfortable — cushioning the body and snug while walking around. All in all, you won’t be disappointed.

Material: Recycled polyester tarpaulin with TPU laminate | Dimension: 16.5 (W) x 10.8 (H) x 4.5 (D) inches | Weight: 1.9 pounds | Closure: Buckled flap fold | Colors: 4

Best Budget

Cyureay women's convertible daypack.

What We Love: The built-in USB port allows for charging on the go.

What We Don’t Love: The bag does not stand up on its own, as the images suggest.

Cyureay’s Convertible Daypack is a great option for those who like the practicality of a backpack , with a slightly more elegant look, and ringing in at just $30, it is one of the most affordable options on our list. “Great, affordable, and you can carry this bag multiple different ways — so if you're looking for versatility this is a great option,” Lloyd recommends.

Featuring both top handles as well as backpack straps and a trolley sleeve, it’s made from water-resistant fabric, so your laptop and belongings will keep safe through a rainy commute or impromptu shower. A large, main inner pocket can fit a 15.6-inch laptop comfortably, while multiple, zippered front and side pockets can store all the little extras — including your phone, chargers, keys, and more. The main, tech-friendly feature here is the built-in USB port that allows you to connect cellular devices to a battery pack (note: that the battery pack is not included, though).

Material: Waterproof nylon | Dimensions: 4.7 (W) x 12.2 (H) x 16.5 (D) inches | Weight: 1 lb | Closure: Zipper | Colors: 4

Best Messenger

Lands' end all purpose messenger bag.

What We Love: The padded shoulder strap is functional and comfortable.

What We Don’t Love: The canvas material is fairly thin.

If you prefer a messenger-style, crossbody shape, this Lands’ End option offers a great solution for those on the go. Although compact, we found the bag to pack a lot, without feeling overburdened when filled. The zippered interior has a padded, laptop pocket specifically designed to keep yours secure, along with three small pockets and a large, mesh pocket. Outside, you will find three snap pockets for storing all the little extras that you want to access easily and quickly.

The shoulder strap is easily adjustable but also has ample padding to make it feel extremely comfortable when in use. This bag is also made from durable canvas, which we found to be waterproof during a spray test. And for those on a budget, this option is surprisingly affordable, especially if you can snag it while on sale.

Material: Polyester | Dimensions: 14.75 (W) x 11 (H) x 5.5 (D) inches | Closure: Zipper | Colors: 1

Best on Amazon

Bromen laptop tote bag.

What We Love: This bag is available in 15 colors.

What We Don’t Love: The vegan leather fabrication might not hold up over time.

Bromen’s Laptop Tote Bag combines the look of a handbag with the capabilities of a laptop tote, allowing you to carry just one bag, rather than the inconvenience of multiple. “I love the classic, clean style of this bag,” Lapierre explains. “It's vegan leather, sturdy, and stands upright on its own.” The structured design also has little feet at the bottom to keep it standing — so your belongings won’t mistakenly dump out when set down.

Both customers and Lapierre call out the multiple strap features. “The strap length is adjustable and has the option to be a crossbody or shoulder bag,” she notes. “Also, super durable for long-term wear!” In addition, there is a separate, padded pocket to keep your laptop protected, along with two slip pockets and a zippered main area. There is plenty of extra room for notebooks, files, and even an umbrella.

Material: Vegan leather | Dimensions: 14.96 (W) x 12.6 (H) x 4.72 (D) inches| Weight: 1.6 pounds | Closure: Zipper | Colors: 15

Best Vintage-Inspired

J.crew edie structured bag.

What We Love: The leather is certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG).

What We Don’t Love: There are no additional pockets for internal organization.

“This one is easily my favorite for how classic and vintage it looks,” Halverson comments. “You’d almost never guess that it’s meant for a computer, and the simplicity of it is gorgeous.” Inspired by vintage briefcases, the shape nods to a heritage handbag silhouette, while remaining modern-feeling. Two shoulder straps with a 9.5-inch drop sit atop a slim, zippered case, which will fit up to a 14-inch laptop and maybe a few other folders and small personal items. If beautiful craftsmanship is what you are looking for — this very minimal design offers quality, without many other extras, such as an additional, crossbody strap or internal pockets.

Still, the Italian leather has a lacquered shine, giving it a patent feel, aligning with the retro feel, and making it feel very special. Since this is LWG-certified, the leather has been sourced from a tannery where responsible production is maintained. When it comes to styling, the shape is incredibly versatile, as well. “I know this one would fit with nearly everything in my wardrobe,” Halverson adds.

Material: Leather | Dimensions: 13.5 (W) x 10.125 (H) x 4.25 (D) inches | Closure: Zipper | Colors: 1

Best Splurge

Kaai pyramid bag.

What We Love: The 100 percent Italian cow leather material is water, scratch, and color fading resistant.

What We Don’t Love: This bag weighs on the heavier side.

Investing in a luxury bag might seem daunting, but researching all the little details on what makes it special, like where and how it is made, makes all the difference. Kaai is a Belgium-based, female-founded brand that specializes in leather goods. The Pyramid Bag checks off all the boxes for what a great laptop bag should offer. The high-quality, traceable leather used for production will be scratch-proof, waterproof, and UV-resistant for years to come, making this investment all worthwhile.

Other highlights include special seams that have been custom-fit specifically so that a laptop actually fits (if this has been a problem for you with other purchases), as well as reinforced handles to support the weight of the bag as you carry it. The base is also reinforced for added support, while metal feet allow the band to stand up. Multiple inner pockets fit more than just your computer and can be closed snuggly with a zipper-top closure. The best part is all this is within the clean, folded design that gives the bag its signature, pyramid-like shape.

Material: Leather | Dimensions: 5.5 (W) x 12.2 (H) x 14.6 (D) inches | Weight: 3 pounds | Closure: Zipper | Colors:  8

Best Daypack

Nobleman backpack.

What We Love: It comes in lots of colors.

What We Don’t Love: The structured shape can feel a little stiff.

No matter how you need to get around, having a daypack designed to fit and protect your laptop is essential. The Nobleman backpack has a structured design that is clean and modern-looking. The uniqueness is in the simple, minimalist approach that's free from statement patterns or fussy design elements. Three zippered pockets are piped with faux leather, offering an aesthetically pleasing look.

One zipped pocket holds up to a 15.6-inch laptop, while the others can stow everyday needs and ready-to-grab items. The fabrication is waterproof, tear-resistant, and scratch-resistant, so whether you are tucking this into your overhead bin on a flight or the backseat of your car, damage will be minimal with regular use. “This backpack is a little more sleek and the straps are super comfortable, too,” Lloyd says. It also comes in 10 colors, including black, gray, beige, pink, and light blue.

Material: Polyester | Dimensions: 16.5 (W) x 11.8 (H) x 7 (D) inches | Weight: 1.9 pounds | Closure: Zipper | Colors: 10

July Juliette Soft Large Tote

What We Love: The sturdy base allows it to sit upright without support.

What We Don’t Love: The laptop sleeve only fits up to a 14-inch computer.

July’s Juliette Large Tote is a multifunctional bag that was designed with the laptop user in mind. So much more than a regular tote bag, the folded exterior gives this option a fashionable flair but also allows for even more extra room with an extra-wide diameter. The sturdy, double handle has thicker straps that will hold the weight of your bag’s contents.

The bag comes with a removable, laptop sleeve wristlet that fits up to a 14-inch laptop however the interior, zipped pocket can fit up to a 16-inch computer, with room to spare for a water bottle, your lunch container, and more. There is also a magnetic closure exterior pocket for those items you want to quickly reach and we can’t not mention the band that slides over luggage handles without a hitch. We recommend investing in this large tote, but the collection also has a smaller version with a detachable crossbody strap, should you prefer.

Material: GRS-certified PU coated fabric | Dimensions: 21.85 (W) x 12.01 (H) x 5.91 (D) inches | Weight: 2.2 pounds | Closure: Zipper | Colors:  3

Best Backpack

Calpak kaya laptop backpack.

What We Love: The whipstitched seam design is aesthetically pleasing.

What We Don’t Love: The structure can be dented if heavier items are not organized on the bottom.

Another style that doesn’t sacrifice style over substance is the Kaya backpack from Calpak. This one is both expert-recommended as well as customer-favorite, based on the sleek, stylish design and practical elements. Stow your 15-inch laptop in the zippered pocket, made especially for a computer, and featuring a latch to keep it in place. The structured, flat shape of this design also lends itself to being ideal for fitting a notebook or an iPad, too. Don’t sleep on the handy, luggage trolley sleeve, either, which fits perfectly over the handles of a suitcase.

The faux leather fabrication, exterior sleeve for travel, and multiple inside compartments for organization are Lapierre’s key takeaways from this design, which make it a top contender on her list. “I love the stitching style around the frame of the bag,” she adds.

Material: Faux leather | Dimensions: 11.5 (W) x 15.5 (H) x 4.5 (D) inches | Weight: 2.9 pounds | Closure: Zipper | Colors:  2

Best Smart Bag

Nordace siena smart backpack.

What We Love: It has a USB port for on-the-move charging.

What We Don’t Love: There is only one color option.

“If you’re looking for more of a traditional-style backpack, this is a great option and it fits a ton of other gear, so this would be perfect for those of you who have a little more to carry around,” Lloyd tells InStyle . The lightweight and adjustable ergonomic straps have been designed for comfort, whether on a lengthy adventure or a short trip. The polyester fabrication is also lightweight, so when you load this backpack up, it won’t feel extremely heavy.

A special, hidden pocket on the back of the pack ensures that important personal belongings, such as a passport or wallet, remain safe, secure, and far away from potential pickpocket’s hands. Plenty of internal pockets make for easy organization, and a discreet, luggage loop will give your back a break when necessary. Use this backpack as a smart tool whenever traveling.

Material: Polyester | Dimensions: 11.42 (W) x 16.54 (H) x 6.3 (D) inches | Weight: 0.031 lb | Closure: Zipper | Colors: 9

Benfan Laptop Sleeve 13-Inch

What We Love: This is a useful option for those who don’t want to carry a large bag.

What We Don’t Love: Some customers complained about the odor of the faux leather.

“This laptop sleeve is a great option if you go the tote route with [fewer] pockets,” Lapierre says. The no-frills version of a laptop bag, this organizational pouch boasts a simple, envelope design that feels like a clutch but tends to your tech carefully. Within the laptop sleeve, you will find a mouse pad, a small charger pouch, and a cord organizer to keep it all in check. Choose from four sizes depending on your laptop’s dimensions (there are options to accommodate 13-, 14-, and 15-inch sizes). The water and scratch-resistant faux leather also has a soft lining inside that will grip and cradle your computer.

Whether used as an added form of protection in a bag sans pockets or you simply prefer to carry your laptop in an uncomplicated manner (zippers can sometimes feel like a hassle), this snap-closure sleeve will be a great companion.

Material: Faux leather | Dimensions: 9.06 (W) x 13.39 (H) x 0.2 (D) inches | Weight: 1.26 pounds | Closure: Snap | Colors:  8

Best Organized

Monos metro tote.

What We Love: The professional look works for both travel and the office.

What We Don’t Love: The style sells out quickly and regularly has low stock.

Although Monos is a travel-forward company, the Metro Tote doesn’t just have to be for planes, trains, and other methods of transportation. This classic, zippered design also makes a great  work bag  for daily commutes and protecting your most important asset — your laptop. The vegan leather fabrication is both water and scratch-resistant and has a soft, cotton-twill lining for easy clean up, in the case of potential spills or pen explosions.

The delegated laptop compartment measures 14 inches, so be sure to check your personal laptop’s measurements first before purchasing. Another feature customers love is the interior water bottle pocket which makes sustainable hydration a breeze. True to the brand’s ethos, the bag is of course compatible with any of the suitcases using the built-in trolley sleeve to make travel easier.

Material: Vegan leather | Dimensions: 15 (W) x 12 (H) x 7.2 (D) inches | Weight: 2.74 pounds | Closure: Zipper | Colors:  4

Best Versatile

Bromen laptop backpack.

What We Love: It looks more expensive than what it costs.

What We Don’t Love: Some reviewers note the leather is shinier in person than in the photos.

“This backpack is so versatile from the adjustable straps to the multiple pockets and compartments,” says Lapierre. “The clean design makes it look more expensive than it is and it comes in many color options based on season or your preference.” She adds that it comes at a great price for the quality, too.

In addition to these facets, the waxed exterior makes this option water-resistant while giving a stylish facade. A foam-padded panel fits a laptop up to 15.6 inches in a separate, velcro pocket. Pen slots and other little slots are also included throughout, so organizational attention is no issue. The adjustable back straps ensure the right length can be found for any body type, making it somewhat ergonomic, while a top handle offers variety in carrying capabilities.

Material: Vegan leather | Dimensions: 11.81 (W) x 15.75 (H) x 5.51 (D) inches | Weight: 1.94 pounds | Closure: Zipper | Colors: 12

Best Leather

Il bisonte talamone leather tote.

Saks Fifth Avenue

What We Love: The bag is handmade and finely crafted in Italy.

What We Don’t Love: There is no top closure for security.

If you are looking to invest in a bag that will hold up over time, leather is a smart choice. The best leather comes from Italy and Il Bisonte has been hand-crafting its designs for years in Tuscany, using superior quality leather in close-knit production facilities.

The Talamone is a roomy tote bag shape, made from cowhide leather, and is both sturdy and stylish. The thicker, two-strap design ensures that carrying this on the shoulders will be comfortable. Although the tote bag is very simple in design, without a ton of pockets and padding, it does make for an aesthetically pleasing approach. Those who prefer to use something closer to a purse to carry everything will find their best match. And inside, a removable, zipped pouch can store personal belongings or even a charging cord when needed.

Material: Leather | Dimensions: 16.5 (W) x 12 (H) x 4.75 (D) inches | Closure: None | Colors:  4

Best Convertible

Bobobark convertible backpack.

What We Love: It has a vintage-inspired shape that feels unique to the laptop bag market.

What We Don’t Love: The clamshell clasp might be finicky to open when on the move.

“This one feels really unexpected to me, in that it can be styled as a backpack but still has a chic shape to it,” Halverson explains. “The metal frame feels so timeless and I feel it would be a great one for travel too.” Whether carried as a top-handle bag, on the shoulder, as a backpack, or even a briefcase, the Bobobark Convertible Backpack gives you options. It’s made from eco-friendly, cork skin, which is lightweight but also durable, strong, and waterproof.

The clamshell clasp gives the effect of a vintage bag but opens to reveal a deep sack that has multiple compartments and pockets for organizational needs, one that will fit up to a 15-inch laptop and is also padded for protection. On the exterior, you will find one easy-access pocket for your phone or necessities that need to be reached quickly. A built-in port will also help you charge on the go, no matter where you are when the low battery hits.

Material: Cork skin | Dimensions: 16.5 (W) x 16.5 (H) x 2.7 (D) inches | Weight: 3.3 pounds | Closure: Clamshell clasp | Colors: 6

Best Monogrammable

Away the everywhere tote.

What We Love: The bag can be personalized with embroidered letters.

What We Don’t Love: It sells out quickly.

You might be already familiar with Away’s social media-approved luggage, but have you checked out the expanded bag line? The Everywhere Tote will take you, literally anywhere, as the name suggests — not just the security line for your next flight, although it works great for that as well. The clean, nylon fabrication is water resistant and features real leather straps as a functional design touch.

The bag fully zips so your laptop and any other personal items you’re carrying remain secure. Inside, the organization is easy with multiple pockets and a padded laptop pouch that snaps and fits up to a 15-inch device. One exterior pocket keeps your passport, wallet, and boarding pass readily available, while the back has a hidden placket that ensures the bag will fit over any Away luggage. For those frequent fliers, the size measurements are complacent with airline requirements for personal items, as well.

Material: Nylon, leather | Dimensions: 16 (W) x 12.6 (H) x 7.9 (D) inches | Weight: 1.57 pounds | Closure: Zipper | Colors: 3

Best Professional

Ted baker london andreaz herringbone messenger bag.

What We Love: The herringbone fabrication is classic and professional looking.

What We Don’t Love: The trim is not real leather.

Ted Baker’s Andreaz bag is the one that won’t look like everyone else’s bag. The untraditional fabrication is made from a woven herringbone — a classic material generally used for suiting and outerwear. The design takes on a more standard, briefcase style — with a top, zip closure, two short handles, and a crossbody, messenger-style strap. Inside, the interior is straightforward, but there is a padded pocket that fits a laptop up to 15 inches. Another detail of note is the raised feet on the bottom of the bag, that allow the bag to stand upright and not directly touch the surface that it is laid on.

We recommend styling this one for the workplace since it takes on a more professional tone due to the fabrication. Pair with your favorite suit, shirt, and a sleek loafer for everyday elegance.

Material: Polyester, acrylic, wool, cotton, polyamide | Dimensions: 14 (W) x 12 (H) x 3 (D) inches | Closure: Zipper | Colors: 1

Best Quality

Coach rogue brief in regenerative leather.

What We Love: It’s crafted from regenerative leather.

What We Don’t Love: Some reviewers had issues with the measurements.

If you are going to be carrying a laptop bag every day, splurging on a well-crafted option makes for a smart investment. Coach is renowned for its decades-long work creating leather goods, so you can count on the maker’s expertise to create a bag that will be heirloom-worthy. However, what we love most is that this briefcase is made with regenerative leather. This means that the leather is sourced from farms that are committed to sustainability and use practices that increase biodiversity and soil health, in turn reducing the often damaging impact that fashion production and consumption have on the planet.

The bag takes the shape of a classic briefcase, yet has modern elements to make it work for the present day — such as a detachable, crossbody strap, secure, inside sleeve for a laptop, and protective feet at the base. However, readers should note that the laptop sleeve only fits up to a 13-inch computer, in case you own a larger one.

Material: Leather | Dimensions: 11 (W) x 16.25 (H) x 4 (D) inches | Closure: Zipper | Colors: 1

Best Traditional

Thule subterra 15 inch laptop bag.

What We Love: It’s durable and water-resistant.

What We Don’t Love: There are minimal pockets for organization.

When it comes to the best laptop bags, this no-frills option is about as classic as you can get. Made from a nylon fabrication, which is naturally water-resistant, Thule’s Subterra bag is thin and lightweight, making everyday errands and commutes all the easier without excessive shoulder weight. It comes in just one color, black, but often that is all you need to be able to style back to everything you own.

Depending on your needs, this bag is available in both a 13- or 15-inch width. The zippered compartments are minimal. There is a pocket for your laptop, then a few other organizational elements, a padded shoulder strap for comfy carrying, and a top handle for variation. Since the nylon gives it a more relaxed feel, we recommend this one for casual office environments or travel.

Material: Nylon | Dimensions: 15.75 (W) x 10.5 (H) x 2.75 (D) inches | Weight: 1.1 pounds | Closure: Zipper | Colors:  1

Best Commuter

Everlane renew transit backpack.

What We Love: There is a designated bottle holder in the interior.

What We Don’t Love: Some reviewers found the flap closure to be cumbersome.

If you’re a city dweller or an avid traveler, a backpack is your best bet. We found Everlane’s Renew pack to be a favorite among customers, coming in at under $100 and multifunctional. The design is simple but smart. A 15-inch exterior pocket offers a safe place to store your laptop while in transit and is easily accessible in TSA security lines. Interior pockets include organizational tools for magazines, notebooks, and even designated water bottle holders.

True to Everlane’s sustainability commitments, this backpack has a few ecocentric elements. It is made from recycled polyester that was derived from water bottles, which helps divert waste from landfills, dyed with Bluesign-approved dyes that are safer for those handling and the environment, and the finish is fluorine-free. Choose from five color palettes, all in earthy, neutral tones.

Material: Recycled polyester | Dimensions: 12 (W) x 17.5 (H) x 7.25 (D) inches | Closure: Zipper | Colors:  5

Best Color Options

Lovevook laptop tote bag.

What We Love: It is extremely affordable in price.

What We Don’t Love: It doesn’t have a lot of structure allowing for it to stand on its own.

This laptop bag looks more like a handbag, making it a great option for corporate workplaces. The minimal front has a crossover, magnetized pocket, that can hold important documents, a notebook, book, or other slim items and there is a small exterior back pocket for your cell phone. It’s made from polyurethane, a durable material that is naturally water and scratch-resistant, and makes the price point much more affordable, as well. The straps also have a protective foam pad, for a more comfortable handle.

A smooth, top zipper opens to reveal an organized interior, complete with pockets that will fit a laptop up to size 15 inches, and a few other folder placements and pocket slots. The best part is it comes in 32 colors and colorways, so you can take your pick from classic neutrals such as black and cognac, or go for something brighter in the realm of greenish blue or pale pink.

Material: Polyurethane | Dimensions: 16.5 (W) x 10.4 (H) x 6.1 (D) inches | Weight: 2.2 pounds | Closure: Zipper | Colors: 32

  • Versatility: “A laptop bag to me is the ultimate workhorse, and often the bag you will carry with you most frequently,” Halverson explains. “For that reason, I love ones that feel like a seamless fit into my wardrobe — something that looks polished and timeless, rather than an afterthought.” As a commuter a few days out of the week, Halverson stresses the importance of choosing a design that feels like it is part of your outfit. “When you carry a laptop bag to work, you don't want to have to carry a purse as well so for me, it needs to do double duty,” Lapierre adds.
  • Pockets: Organizational tools, such as pockets, are one of the main design details to consider. Lloyd recommends always looking for a pocket to keep all the small things you need to take along with you. “A lot of times I'll bring AirPods, my Apple pencil, a portable charger, and having a pocket to keep your accessories in is nice and needed,” she says.
  • Straps: A strap that won’t weigh you down is also important during the testing process. “There’s nothing worse than packing your bag and the straps digging into your shoulder — it's the worst!” Lloyd says, pointing out that comfortable straps should be a high priority. “The length of the strap is also important based on your size,” Lapierre explains. “You want to make sure it's not too long for your body, so it doesn't weigh you down or too short where it may not fit over a jacket and you have to carry it on your forearm.”

What is a laptop bag?

“I would consider a laptop bag any kind of bag that can fit an average-sized laptop,” Lapierre explains. “Of course, there are those made for laptops only and those with more versatility but if it can fit a laptop in it safely, it gets the job done. That could be anything from a tote bag, to a  backpack depending on what you're looking for.”

Lloyd agrees that a laptop bag doesn’t have to be made just for a computer. “For me, a laptop bag is really anything that can fit my laptop securely and comfortably,” she says. I don't always go by the standard — there are lots of times when I'll find a cute tote and make it work!”

How do you find a laptop bag that won't weigh your shoulders down?

“The best way to protect your shoulders while carrying a laptop bag is to find something with multiple straps like a crossbody or a work backpack,” Lapierre recommends. “Personally, my bags get heavy quickly with all the things I carry and there's nothing worse than walking with your coffee in one hand, phone in the other, and your shoulder bag slides down off your shoulder.” If this sounds familiar, she recommends looking for something with a grip on the shoulder or backpack straps, so that you’re more hands-free and the weight can be distributed more evenly.

Lloyd stresses the importance of picking the right size back and also packing efficiently. “A lot of times, we over-pack, making the bag overweight and that doesn't help at all,” she explains. Consider function when choosing your bag and also what needs to be carried when in use. “Also, you can fit the bag to your body making sure you adjust the straps to disperse the weight evenly. That helps a ton,” she recommends.

How do you care for a laptop bag to prolong its life?

“Take your laptop out of the bag and hang it when you can, instead of putting it on the ground everywhere you go,” Lapierre suggests. “Or find a bag that has pegs on the bottom so it can stand up without having the fabric touch the ground.” She also highlights the importance of not overstuffing the bag — which will create more weight on the straps — and to make sure to clean it out often, so things don’t build up and get too messy internally.

For Halverson, simple cleaning practices make all the difference in extending the laptop bag’s life. “A little bit of a wipe down with a leather care wipe goes a long way, as does hanging it up at the end of the day so it's not just flopped over on the ground or on a chair.” These are all relevant tips to follow to keep your bag looking brand new.

As laptops have become more expensive and an investment, protecting them has become more important than ever. This guide gathers different security accessories and covers different use cases and scenarios.

Not everybody will need a security cable or a biometric USB key, but having different options for unique situations is never a bad thing. There are a lot of Kensington products on this list, as it's the leader in laptop security and has some of the best products on the market, so it's hard not to recommend.

There are also applications you can install on mobile devices and laptops that can help to track stolen devices and we will highlight one of those today so if the worst-case scenario does happen, you might have a chance at getting your device back.

The quick list

If you're in a hurry, check out a quick list of my picks for the best security accessories for your PC or laptop. Hit the links below to read a full breakdown of any options, with details of the pros and cons for each.

Best security cable

While not every device has a standard Kensington slot on it, a lot of them do. Even if this cable won't fit your device, Kensington likely makes a cable that does fit it. Kensington locks are well trusted and an easy way to secure your laptop or mobile tablet/electronics.

Best budget cable

We all love Amazon Basics products. They are normally a great product for a huge discount over the brand name option. This lock seems to have most of the same features as the Kensington locks but comes at a cheaper price. While this lock might be a bit bigger than the number 1 option, it does still have a slim profile. As always, check to make sure it will fit your device slot before ordering.

Best fingerprint reader

While most laptops already come with a fingerprint reader built-in, not all of them do. Especially in the case of a desktop PC, they are much less common. This is a cheap option to pick up and can greatly improve security for your device as well as make authentication faster. With 4.0 stars on over 3,300 reviews on Amazon and Kensington's name on it, this is a great product if you have the need for it.

Best anti-theft bag

While researching multiple bags, and having used my own anti-theft laptop bags in the past, I was surprised to see how many reviews this laptop bag has. With 4.6 stars out of over an outrageous 47,000 reviews this Tzowla backpack must be checking a lot of boxes. Having a way to lock zippers is great, and having USB and headphone passthrough is also a nice feature.

It's never a bad idea to throw a tracker tag into your laptop bag or even try to attach it to your laptop if possible. While it's not foolproof, if it does stay with your laptop after being stolen, tracker tags like the SmartTag 2 or an Apple AirTag are one of the fastest ways to recover a lost/stolen item. Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 is a great Android alternative with great features.

Prey is a multi-platform anti-theft solution for mobile, MacOS, Windows, and other operating systems. The software is basically like "find my phone" but for laptops and other devices. While Prey isn't free, the price isn't overwhelming either. For about $1.30 per month, you can keep your laptop safe and be able to track it if it does get stolen. Prey also has enterprise solutions if you're in the market for that.

The best security accessories in 2024

Why you can trust Windows Central Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

Below, you'll find complete breakdowns of why these choices have made my list of the best security accessories for PCs and laptops. While I haven't had the opportunity to hand-test some of these exact models, I have used almost identical counterparts and items from the same brands in the past, and these accessories have the features and user reviews to bolster my confidence in recommending them.

The best Kensington security cable

1. kensington slim combination laptop lock - k60600ww, specifications, reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

As Kensington likes to boast, Kensington is the "inventor and worldwide leader in laptop security locks." There are several different types of slots depending on your device. It's important to make sure that the lock you're purchasing fits the slot on your laptop or device.

While there are several reasons you might want a security cable, they aren't the most practical outside of a public place. That being said, if you need to leave your laptop in your car, or take it to a public place, it could be worthwhile to have a lock so it can't be lifted by a passerby.

I've used security cable locks before, mostly Kensington and they are a useful tool that perform their function. There isn't much negative to say about them, and if you can think of any reason you might want to lock your laptop or compatible device down, a security cable is the best option to do that.

  • ^ Back to the top

The best alternative security cable

2. amazon basics 6-foot carbon steel cable lock.

If you don't want to go with the market leader Kensington, Amazon Basics has a great alternative for a cheaper price. It has some bad reviews, but it's mostly people who mistakenly bought it and it didn't fit the slot on their device.

Most reviews focus on the quality being good, and that is expected. If you have never purchased an Amazon Basics product before, they are usually generic clones of name-brand items but have decent quality.

Again, a security cable lock won't be a solution for everybody, but if you're in the market for one you can either go with Kensington, Amazon Basics, or another alternative on the market. They are a budget friendly solution that work well to lock down your device to a physical location.

The best USB biometric key reader

3. kensington verimark usb fingerprint key reader - k67977ww.

If you haven't had the pleasure of using biometrics on a device for authentication through Windows Hello, you're missing out. It's much faster and easier than having to type in your password.

Unfortunately, most desktop PCs don't come with a fingerprint reader, and even some laptops still don't have them integrated, I'm looking at you Surface Book 3.

Being able to have an external USB that can plug in and quickly authenticate you is a great option, and biometrics are more secure than passwords in most situations.

The Kensington USB biometric security key can also be setup to work with popular password applications like " Dashlane, LastPass (Premium), Keeper (Premium) and Roboform, to allow the fingerprint to authenticate and automatically fill in usernames and passwords for websites. "

The best anti-theft laptop bag

4. tzowla travel laptop backpack.

I have a few backpacks that have zipper locks on them, and they do ease my mind a bit when I'm traveling. I often do have to take my work laptop on the road with me when I'm on call, and having my laptop stolen out of a bag would be catastrophic, so I always make sure to lock up the zippers and keep the bag with-in arms reach at all times when I'm out and about.

This laptop bag has some great features like USB and headphone passthrough so you can charge your phone if you need to or plug in some headphones. The price for this bag isn't horrible either, at around $30 at the time of this write-up, it has 47,000 reviews and is one of the most popular items I've seen on Amazon that I've never heard of before.

If you're in the market for a security-focused laptop backpack, this looks like it is a great option and with my experience with different locking backpacks, this seems to have all the features you could want out of a $30 bag.

The best tag tracker

5. samsung galaxy smarttag2.

Apple AirTags are all the craze right now, to be honest I didn't even know that Samsung made a competitor to Apples popular AirTag. Doing some research into the best tracker tags and knowing that a lot of us prefer Android to Apple led me to recommend the Samsung SmartTag2. If you do have an iPhone, feel free to pick up an Apple AirTag , but if you're team Green and using an Android, the Samsung SmartTag2 is a comparable price and does everything you could need it to.

While it would be difficult to actually attach a SmartTag to your laptop, most laptops usually travel around in bags, so it's a good idea to throw one into your bag as a secondary precaution. I have seen some Reddit posts online of user's opening up their laptops and putting a tracker tag inside of it, but since the batteries don't last forever, that seems like a bad idea to me.

We are all mostly familiar with "findmyphone" features, but there is nothing worse than having your device stolen, or it gets lost, and you realizing you never enabled the feature in the first place. A SmartTag can help track things when the software options fail.

The best anti-theft software

6. prey anti-theft software.

While researching the best anti-theft software there were many names that came up, but one of the best multi-platform options that came up again and again was Prey. Prey works on nearly any device, and you can use install it on one device for free per the Prey web site.

It works by downloading the executable onto your laptop, tablet, or phone and then signing up for an account online. The executable will send logs back to your online account so that you can access it online and see your device location. You can also lock your screen remotely and check the activity log.

Prey does offer plans for multiple devices and even enterprise options. It has glowing reviews online and is a fair price for what it's offering. While this isn't quite anti-theft, software like these have been proven to be one of the best ways to help law enforcement recover stolen items.

How to choose the best security accessories for you

Luckily, in this buying guide, I focused on different accessories that aren't in competition with each other besides the two security cable locks. With that in mind, which security accessory you should pick will really depend on how you use your laptop. Are you going to be traveling with it a lot? Then, the anti-theft backpack is a good pickup. Do you have to take your laptop to an office or public place? Then, the security cable locks could make sure your laptop doesn't wander off while you're away from your desk.

All of these products are great options, and most of them have alternatives you can pick up at a different price point, or that will fit your specific device. These accessories are a jumping-off point and hopefully can give you an idea of some ways to better secure your laptop or PC in the future.

Can I use these security accessories for travel?

Yes, these accessories would be extremely useful while traveling, especially internationally. Many times, while traveling we are forced to leave our laptops or other devices in our hotel rooms, having a security cable to lock the device down would be a great idea during these times.

Unfortunately, expensive electronics inside bags are a prime target while riding public transportation or walking around in a big city. Having a laptop bag that locks the zippers and is built to prevent easy entry could be a huge deterrent to thieves. It's also smart to put a Samsung SmartTag2 in your bag so that if the entire bag gets stolen, you can track it.

The use cases for these security accessories are pretty obvious, but there is never a foolproof way to protect everything. Make sure you have all of your important items backed up to the cloud. Microsoft OneDrive offers backup services at a good price if you need more storage than the 1 TB included in Microsoft 365 .

Visiting the inside is like walking through a maze, there are even small signs all around the cathedral tracing where to walk, and pointing you in the right direction! The walls are meticulously decorated and painted with intricate floral designs and religious themes.

Whether you’re spending one day in Moscow, or more, safety is an important thing to keep in mind when traveling to a big city! Overall, Moscow is a very safe place to visit. However, it is always recommended that tourists take certain precautions when traveling to a new destination!

The police in Moscow is extremely effective at making the city a safe place to visit and do their best to patrol all of the top Moscow, Russia tourist attractions. However, tourists can still be a target for pickpockets and scammers.

Moscow has a huge flow of tourists, therefore there is a risk for pickpocketing. Simple precautions will help eliminate your chances of being robbed. Stay vigilant, keep your items close to you at all times, and don’t flash your valuables!

If you’re planning a solo Moscow itinerary, you should have no need to worry, as the city is also considered safe for solo travelers, even women. Stay in the populated areas, try and not travel alone late at night, and never accept rides from strangers or taxis without a meter and correct signage.

The threat of natural disasters in Moscow is low, with the exception of severe winters when the temperature can dip below freezing! Bring a good, warm jacket if you visit in Winter.

However, please note that Russian views on homsexuality are far less accepting than those in Western Europe. Likewise, Non-Caucasian travellers may sadly encounter racism in Russia .
