STAR COACHES: THE PIONEER OF THE EXECUTIVE LIMO COACH...

After meeting with numerous coach builders who turned him down, Danny met with Jerry Calhoun, the Godfather of the rock & roll bus industry.

The meeting was brief and to the point.  Jerry asked Danny to write down references and then told him to go to lunch...

When Danny returned from lunch Jerry said "Go pick out a bus, I believe in you!"

Since 1990 and millions of dollars later, the relationship between Danny Hamilton and Jerry Calhoun has been very special.

14 BUNKER COACHES

noleggio tour bus band

Many years ago, and thanks to our friend George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, we made a decision to convert some of our coaches from 12 bunkers to 14 bunkers...

This move has opened the door to helping bands save money by "sharing a bus" with an opening act, or carrying a full crew and keeping the cost involved to only one bus...

With a year round rate starting at $850 / day, our 2013 to 2016 model 14 bunker coaches can really make a difference to bands and touring theatrical shows that are faced with tight budgetary restraints...

OUR DRIVERS GIVE BACK…

"GUYS, FIGURE OUT A WAY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO OUR CLIENTS."

We knew that the economy was going to tank. We didn't know when, or how bad things would get, we just knew the bubble was going to burst.

Over the course of two weeks, we held countless phone calls with all of our drivers discussing their ideas on "how to make a difference".

They came up with many great ideas. Finally, our drivers decided that the best way to give back and make a difference was to change their overdrive structure IN FAVOR of the client.

Industry standard has always been, and still is, for a driver to charge an overdrive (equal to a days pay) after driving 450 miles.

Our drivers voluntarily and collectively, decide to break that mold.

Their decision was to NOT charge a client an overdrive at 450 miles, but rather at 501 miles.

This was a HUGE move on their part. Unheard of in the industry. They were mocked and ridiculed by their esteemed colleagues in the industry.

BUT... They made a difference.

So, ever since 2005, our great drivers have made a significant difference to our clients every day with their overdrive structure, which starts at 501 miles, not at 450 miles like our competition!

Our drivers WILL save you money on your next tour!

More often than not, when clients compare a Star Coaches proposal to our competitor's proposals, our proposal will "appear" to be more expensive.

Why? Because it is thorough...

It's NOT designed to be "pretty"...   it's designed to be accurate.   Actually, it is designed for you to end your tour BELOW the projected budget.

Don takes the time to prepare every single proposal for every single tour himself.

He suggests stop point cities on longer drives to keep a driver safe and legal.

While this level of thoroughness takes more time, it has been invaluable, especially for foreign clients that are not familiar with the geographical layout of the United States.

See for yourself what many consider to be the best, and most informative proposal in the industry, and then get ready to enjoy "coming in below budget" at the end of your tour.

TRAILER WEIGHT LIMITS…

Most of the time, this is not a problem, as most bands are staying within our 10,000 pound limit for GVWT (Gross Vehicle Weight, or a loaded trailer)...

By the way, for you Production Managers, our trailers weight about 4,500 pounds empty, leaving you about 5,500 pounds for the gear / merch...

Anyhow, a more frequent occurrence is that we find ourselves receiving a frantic call from our drivers at pick up stating that "this trailer is very heavy"...

So we instruct the driver to immediately weigh the full trailer, only to find that the GVWT is over 10,000 pounds... This becomes a new problem...

To battle this potential problem, we suggest making sure your packed load is less than 5,500 pounds, and if you must exceed that limit, act BEFORE the tour pick up...

Rent a box truck and a driver...

Star Coaches now has a small team of box truck drivers that can help solve the problem of a disaster at pick up...

If you can't get the gear to 5,500 pounds, let us know, and we will gladly assign one of our auxiliary drivers to your rented box truck from Hertz, Budget or UHaul...

Don't be THAT guy who is overweight at pick up...

Things to Know Before You Charter a Tour Bus

Traveling in a luxurious tour bus is a unique experience and an ideal solution for anyone traveling over the road for extended periods. Since these buses are specially equipped to provide multi-day comfort on long journeys, most companies that rent them do so on long-term contracts. Many companies will charter or rent for a day.

Here are some things to keep in mind before you book an entertainer coach for your next trip:

  • Accommodations and features will differ significantly, make sure to see the coach before signing a contract.
  • Often includes sleeping accommodations with either one bed for a single entertainer or a configuration of up to 8 or more bunks.
  • Always ask for insurance information before booking.
  • If you need other parties listed as additionally insured, tell the company before signing a contract.

Though we work hard to keep our listings updated, we encourage you to check the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Safer System for company standing before booking with any operator.

Common Amenities on a Tour Bus

Because tour buses are designed to serve as your home out on the road, these vehicles are packed to the brim with amenities. When you're traveling for days at a time and spending long periods on your bus, you want every luxury you can get to make the journey more comfortable.

Most tour buses feature bunks or beds where you can relax or catch some sleep overnight and lounge areas where you can hang out during the day. While the details for each bus will vary, you can expect the following amenities from a tour bus charter:

  • Restrooms   | Always
  • AC   | Always
  • WiFi   | Almost Always
  • Screens/DVD   | Almost Always
  • PA Systems   | Often
  • In-Seat Power Outlets   | Almost Always
  • Airline Grade Entertainment   | Almost Always
  • Wheelchair Accessible   | Rare

We encourage you to ask your operators questions and request photos of your bus so you know you're getting what you need to make your trip a success.

Common Activities That Use Tour Buses

When you think about luxury tour buses, the first thing that comes to mind is probably the rock stars who tour the country putting on spectacular shows. Still, they aren't the only ones traveling in these buses. Entertainer coach buses provide comfortable, luxurious transportation and accommodations for a wide range of performers, political figures and everyday folks who want an experience like no other.

From road trips to tours and everything in between, tour buses provide an excellent home away from home for any group, including:

Political Campaigns

Theatre groups, comedians and entertainers, executive/corporate, visiting dignitary or executive groups, wedding party transportation, wedding venue shuttle, business commuter shuttle, college and professional sports, tailgate parties, traveling/hosting sporting events, nascar/racing events, benefits of renting an entertainer coach bus.

Renting a tour bus for a long trip provides you the ultimate convenience. Your bus should have almost everything you need onboard, so you can travel without searching for hotel rooms or places to stop for food and bathroom breaks.

As with any rental, your entertainer coach will be assigned an experienced driver who will ensure you arrive at each destination safely. You can sit back and relax, and your driver will be responsible for navigation, traffic and parking. This driver gives you the opportunity to work on your performance, socialize or take a nap so that you arrive fresh and ready to shine.

Tour buses are an environmentally friendly alternative to other modes of travel, helping to minimize the impact of your tour by limiting the number of vehicles or plane trips required to get you where you're going. Most tour buses are relatively fuel-efficient and house an entire band along with some crew members, allowing you to carpool and reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

The Road to Comfort: Navigating Band Tour Bus Rentals

In the fast-paced world of the entertainment industry , where artists are constantly on the move, the tour bus becomes more than just a mode of transportation. It’s a mobile sanctuary, a creative hub, and a home away from home for musicians and their crews.

Choosing the right tour bus rental is crucial for ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey, yet navigating through the myriad of options can be a daunting task. Let’s delve into the essential factors to consider when seeking the best band tour bus rental for clients.

Comfort: A Priority on Wheels

Touring can be physically and mentally demanding, with long hours on the road and little time for rest. Therefore, the comfort of the tour bus is paramount. The bus should offer ample space for relaxation, with comfortable seating, sleeping quarters, and amenities that cater to the specific needs of the artists and crew. From cozy bunks to spacious lounges, the layout of the bus should foster a sense of camaraderie and well-being among its occupants.

Navigating the competitive landscape of the entertainment industry involves carefully selecting the ideal band tour bus rental to ensure a seamless and comfortable journey for artists and their crews.

Reliability: The Backbone of Touring

A breakdown on the road can spell disaster for a touring band, leading to missed gigs, disappointed fans, and financial losses. Thus, reliability is key when selecting a tour bus rental company. Opting for a reputable provider with a fleet of well-maintained vehicles and a proven track record of reliability is essential. Recommendations from fellow musicians, tour managers, and industry insiders, along with thorough background checks, can help ensure a reliable touring experience.

Amenities: Enhancing the Touring Experience

The amenities onboard the tour bus can significantly enhance the touring experience for artists and their crews. Some prioritize state-of-the-art sound systems and recording studios, while others value creature comforts like luxurious lounges, gourmet kitchens, and spa facilities.

Customization options offered by certain tour bus rental companies allow artists to tailor the amenities according to their preferences, ensuring a personalized and unforgettable journey.

Budget Considerations: Finding the Balance

Balancing comfort and luxury with budget constraints is a common challenge when selecting a bus rental. While some artists may opt for a modest yet reliable option to keep expenses in check, others may splurge on extravagant amenities for a truly unforgettable experience. Careful budgeting, negotiation skills , and a willingness to compromise are essential in finding the right balance between comfort and cost-effectiveness.

traveling-by-bus-bus-travel-tips-main

In the competitive landscape of the tour bus rental market, finding the best option for clients in the entertainment industry requires careful consideration of comfort, reliability, amenities, and budget constraints. By prioritizing these factors and leveraging industry connections, artists and their teams can ensure a seamless and unforgettable touring experience for themselves and their fans alike.

The journey may be challenging, but with the right guidance and preparation, the road to finding the perfect band tour bus rental becomes an exciting adventure in itself.

Where Do Bands Stay On Tour?

As a non-musician, you might be wondering where bands stay whilst they’re on tour. Whilst it’s tempting conjure up images of five star hotels and private jets, you’d be right in thinking this is a far cry from the reality of touring life.

So, where do bands stay on tour?

When touring the DIY circuit, bands will either stay at someone’s house (usually a friend, family member or fellow musician) or stay in the venue. itself More established bands will either stay in a hotel, on a tour bus or on a cruise ship.

Keep reading for an in-depth account of where bands stay on tour.

Table of Contents

At Someone’s House

This is one of the most-common options for bands on low-budget DIY tours. The house a band stays in will usually be owned/occupied by one of the following people:

  • A friend/family member: When attempting to grow their following, many bands will book tours in locations where they have friends & family in order to save money and ensure their safety.
  • A member of another band on the lineup:  Many bands on the DIY circuit will participate in something called ‘show-swapping’. This is where one band hosts a hometown show and features a touring band on the lineup, allowing the touring band to stay at their house after the show. The touring band then returns the favor by booking a hometown show of their own. This is a fantastic way for bands to save money whilst simultaneously helping each other out in the industry.
  • A fan: Whilst this is a less-popular option, many fans are often receptive to letting their favorite bands stay at their house after a show as a token of appreciation.
  • Affordable: Staying at someone’s house usually means that a band will have somewhere to sleep and shower for free. It’s also common courtesy for the host to provide the band with breakfast the next morning. Similarly, it costs virtually nothing for a band to return the favor and host a touring band in their own home when participating in show swaps. As most bands on the DIY circuit will either break even or lose money on each tour, any opportunity to reduce expenses serves as a huge help.
  • Safe:  Bands will tend to stay at houses with people whom they have a pre-established relationship with. This means they’ll likely be in a safe environment and won’t have the tables turned on them at the last minute.
  • Restricting:  When a band is really strapped for cash, they might  only  be able to tour in places where they know they have a house to stay at. This means the band might have to miss out on other touring opportunities or play in less-than-ideal locations. Similarly, bands may have to show-swap with bands who play in a different genre, leading to mismatched lineups.
  • Poor sleep quality: Most houses won’t have multiple guest rooms, meaning the band will be restricted to either the floor or a couch. This can lead to extremely poor sleep quality, limiting their ability to function over the course of a tour.

A verage price:  Staying at someone’s house is usually free of charge (with the exception of a round of drinks for the host).

Ideal for:  Bands touring the DIY circuit on a tight budget

At The Venue

This is another great (albeit less-popular) option for bands on the DIY circuit. Some venues will feature basic living quarters, often in the form of a small apartment above or below the venue. These types of venues are particularly abundant in Europe, where there’s a strong DIY touring scene.

  • Affordable:  Much like staying at someone’s house, venue owners will often allow a touring band to stay at the premises for free. This can be a huge help for touring bands on a tight budget.
  • Convenient:  When staying at the venue itself, bands won’t be in a rush to pack up their gear and rush off, meaning they can stay and speak to fans after the show. Similarly, they won’t have to spend time trying to find a hotel or someone’s house after the show.
  • Restricting: Venues with built-in accommodation are few and far-between. If a cash-strapped band is touring an area with no friends or family, their options will be extremely restricted. This may mean they have to play in inconvenient locations or on mismatched lineups. Additionally, venues usually only have enough accommodation for  one  band. This can be an issue if there are multiple touring bands on the lineup.
  • Limited facilities: Unlike staying at someone’s house, venue accommodation may not feature a shower or a kitchen. This means the band may have to forego a shower and a hot meal for the convenience of staying at the venue.

Average price:  Staying a venue is usually free of charge.

In A Hotel/Hostel

Bands with a little more budget or a larger crew will often stay at either a hotel or a hostel. Most bands who stay at hotels will travel from venue to venue in a van during the day, making hotels/hostels a suitable option for bands who don’t have a busy daytime schedule (press, video shoots etc.)

  • Comfortable: Most hotels/hostels will offer a bed, shower and the opportunity for a hot meal, making it much more comfortable than staying in someone’s house or at a venue. Most hotels/hostels will also offer WiFi, unlike staying at a venue.
  • Non-restricting: Most towns/cities will have at least one hotel/hostel, meaning the band won’t have to plan their entire touring schedule around their accommodation.
  • Convenient: Hotels/hostels are perfect for short-term stays. Bands can check in, sleep in a comfortable bed and check out the next day without having to worry about conflicting schedules or locations.
  • Expensive: Staying at a different hotel every night can add up  very  quickly. This means a band will have to be pulling in a decent income before they can even  think  about staying at hotels/hostels on tour.
  • Inauthentic experience: Many bands tour simply for the  experience  of either sleeping on someone’s floor or travelling the country on a tour bus. Whilst staying in hotels/hostels is a luxury and convenient option, they drastically take away from the experience of being a touring band.

Average cost: $50-$250 per room, per night.

Ideal for: Established bands with a stable income.

On A Tour Bus

Once a band is touring full-time, they’ll almost-always stay on a tour bus for nationwide tours. Tour busses allow a band to sleep on-board and travel overnight, allowing them to participate in press and other related activities during the daytime. It’s also more effective than booking a  handful of separate hotel rooms each night.

  • Convenient: A standard tour bus sleeps 16 people, which is far more efficient than booking separate hotel rooms each night. As previously mentioned, it also allows the bus to travel from venue to venue overnight, which frees the band up during the daytime.
  • Comfortable:  When staying on a bus, musicians will typically have access to the same facilities that they would in a hotel.
  • Homely:  A band will typically use the same bus for an entire tour, meaning they’ll be able to settle in and treat it like a second home. This can’t be done when staying at a hotel, venue or guest house.
  • Expensive:  The average tour bus will cost  $1500-$2500 per day.  Unless a band is pulling in  serious  income, it simply isn’t an option.
  • Clashing sleeping schedules: Different crew members will likely have  very  different sleeping schedules. For example, the bus driver will have to sleep during the daytime in order to drive the bus overnight. Therefore, the band as well as the other crew members may not be able to make full-use of the facilities during the daytime.

Average cost: $1500-$2500 per day.

On A Cruise Ship

Cruise ships are becoming an increasingly-popular travel/accommodation option as  it offers a band the chance to work as on-board performers.  This can be a great way for a band to earn some extra cash whilst travelling for an overseas tour. Similarly, more-successful musicians who are afraid of flying (such as Travis Barker ) will use a cruise ship to tour overseas.

  • Potential to earn: When staying on a cruise ship, a band can apply for a short-term contract performing covers for guests. Bands who go down this route will usually receive free food & accommodation, allowing them to come away with a profit. This extra income can help small-time musicians fund an overseas tour.
  • Extra experience:  There’s no doubt that performing on a cruise ship provides a small-time touring band with a huge amount of practical experience. A cruse ship may also stop at several other countries en-route to the final destination, allowing the band to experience various different countries and cultures
  • Time off:  The average cruise ship gig for a guest band will last between one and two weeks. It’s likely the band will only have to work for a few hours a day, allowing them plenty of time to relax and prepare for the upcoming tour.
  • Luxury: Guest musicians are often able to make full use of the luxury passenger facilities instead of the more modest crew facilities.
  • Inefficient: Cruise ship gigs are often few and far-between, meaning a band may will to plan the entire tour around the cruise gig itself. Furthermore, it takes a couple of weeks to complete the cruise, which may be inefficient for bands with a busy touring schedule.
  • Extra work required: In order to obtain work as an on-board cover band, a band will have to devise a 2 hour-long cover set. This can take a substantial amount of effort and can leave the band performing music that they don’t particularly care for.

Average cost: $100-$300 per night

Potential earnings:  $1000-$2500 per member, per week

Ideal for:  Established bands with a fear of flying, or small-time bands looking to earn extra income.

How the World Ran Out of Tour Buses

How the World Ran Out of Tour Buses

If you’ve ever gone to a major concert, there’s a good chance you’ve seen the monolithic tour buses parked up near the venue. These blacked-out behemoths embody the mystery of life on the road for a rock band, and evoke questions about what their tinted windows might hide.

Buses like this are packed with the creature comforts any self-respecting musician needs for a life on the road, beginning with a fridge full of beer, beds and bathrooms and going on from there to include everything from massive TVs to cigar humidors and even mobile recording studios. Here in America, they’re also usually slathered with chrome accents adding to the cool aesthetic of a rock-star lifestyle.

Just a few years ago, it was pretty easy for bands to get hold of buses like this to take out on the road. The first way to do this, if you’re a big name, is to buy one for yourself and keep it running on tour after tour. If you’re a megastar like Dolly Parton, you can even rent it out for fans to stay in .

A photo of four brightly colored tour buses at a music festival.

But for musicians that haven’t written something on the level of “ Nine to Five ,” the best way to track down a tour bus is to rent one.

“Before the pandemic, there seemed to be more buses available,” says Jamie Morral, president of Pennsylvania-based rental firm JGM Coaches . “Bands would be able to book their tours and feel confident that they would find a bus,”

For almost two decades, Morral and his firm loaned out buses to bands like Killswitch Engage , Hot Tuna and Simple Plan for their American tours. But on March 15, 2020, states began implementing lockdown orders as COVID -19 spread across the country.

“The whole industry was paused for two years,” says Scott Bell, tour manager for American rock band The Menzingers . “So now, everybody has come out to make money and everyone has to tour.”

A photo of The Menzingers on stage at Governors Ball.

Fierce Competition

Now, almost three years later, bands, musicians and artists of all kinds are itching to get back out on the road and make up for lost time with fans. Because of this, competition for everything needed to put on a psychedelic show is fierce. Venues, equipment and tour buses are all in high demand as everyone from Taylor Swift to Def Leppard tries to hit the road now that they’re free to travel the world once again. Rabid competition is leading to sky-high prices, canceled reservations and soaring demand for all manner of equipment, particularly tour buses.

Tom Petty and his bandmates pose outside their tour bus.

“You had the likes of Diana Ross on waiting lists with bus companies hoping bands would cancel a tour so they could get a bus,” says Graham Forster, a tour bus driver for Irish company Crosslink.

So, how the heck did we get here?

First up, the music industry changed. With the advent of streaming, album sales and new music releases aren’t enough to make being a recording artist a full-time job for many. Spotify pays out just $0.004 per stream , so revenue for bands and singers has increasingly come from merchandise and ticket sales.

So when the pandemic put large events and concerts on hold, many musicians struggled. Now that restrictions have been lifted, “Everybody is trying to put money in their checking accounts,” says Morral.

A photo of tourists looking at Dolly Parton's tour bus.

No More Buses

But the pandemic took more than just money from artists’ purses. With the industry on hold, bus companies struggled as work dried up. While some firms were able to stay solvent by, for instance, loaning out their buses to healthcare providers to act as mobile vaccine hubs in the pandemic , this was either done at a loss or didn’t bring in the kind of revenue they were used to. Some had to make the difficult decision to sell vehicles or even close up shop for good.

“Some of those companies that went bankrupt during the pandemic, not all those buses have been bought up or are being run by other companies yet,” says Morral. This means there’s now a shortage of buses as these vehicles are still waiting to be snapped up by other operators. “If you take 20, 30 or 40 buses out of the entertainer equation then that’s a lot of buses.”

A photo of a Covid-19 vaccine sign on the side of a bus.

For this reason, the price of tour buses is skyrocketing. Where bands could usually expect to spend 20 to 35 percent of their budget on the bus, according to Morral, that’s no longer the case.

“I’ve had managers and artists write to me since this all started telling me they would pay double if I could give them buses,” says Morral. “I’ve heard stories of people having their buses pulled and given to someone else. It’s bad business.”

That’s a story echoed by Bell of Scranton, PA punk band The Menzingers , who told us of a metal band that was forced to pull its European tour after the bus company told them to wire them thousands more dollars, as another artist was trying to outbid them.

A photo of the interior of one of JGM's coaches.

Driver Demand

All this chaos isn’t simply around securing the bus. It’s also about securing the driver for your bus. Morral has stories about rental companies across the country that have “20 to 30 buses just sitting on their lot because they can’t find drivers for them.”

“It’s definitely a drivers’ market now,” says Forster, a UK-based tour bus driver who’s driven for the likes of Annie Lennox , Slipknot , Metallica and Robbie Williams . “I heard of drivers asking for £400 (roughly $480) a day and they were getting it. Because the companies wanted the buses out and working.”

That’s roughly three times the normal rate for a driver in the UK; Forster says he’s usually paid £130 (around $156) for every day that he’s out on the road. But with so much money to be made, why aren’t more drivers heading out on tour?

A photo of bunk beds in a JGM Coach.

“I think a lot of it is people got comfortable being home,” says Morral. “In our industry the driver is going to be gone 300 plus days a year. Then they got home and some of them, especially those who are married, got a job where they’re maybe driving trucks and they’re home every night. They got used to that.”

Some veterans of the industry are, understandably, now reluctant to return to a life on the road. That life saw Forster spend just 14 days at home in 2022 as he covered thousands of miles driving artists like American rapper Gashi across Europe. Despite this, he says he never considered switching lanes when the going got tough.

“During the first three months of the lockdowns it was like a vacation,” Forster says. “Then I became bored. I volunteered as a swab taker at drive-in test centers, then when that finished I went onto trucks for a while. That basically reminded me why I didn’t like doing trucks.”

A photo of the tour bus used by The Menzingers.

As soon as touring got underway in the UK again, Forster was back out on the road. When he was reunited with his Setra 431 bus, he found himself returning to an industry that had seen many drivers leave and few new ones step in to take their places. Those that had joined were struggling to adapt to their new rides.

“Drivers are being taken on directly from service buses and tourist buses and into rock and roll. But they are a different animal altogether.” Driving a musician’s tour bus, he says, requires a gentle approach as the buses are much larger . On top of that, you’re often driving sleeping passengers around, so you can’t risk jolting your star out of bed by taking a corner too quickly or slamming on the brakes at a red light.

Now, even for drivers who have stepped away from a life on the road, the calls keep coming for them to settle back into the driver’s seat.

“We met our current guitar tech through driving vans,” Bell says. “He had always been a good guitar player, so we were like, ‘hey Kyle, you want to be our guitar tech?’ Now, he gets called all the time asking if he’ll come back and drive for three days out in Canada.”

Is There a Fix?

This shortage of drivers means that, at present, it doesn’t make sense for companies like JGM to snap up out-of-service buses or place orders for new units.

A photo of the tour bus used by The Menzingers.

“I don’t make dumb business decisions like going out to buy ten brand-new buses just because the market is hot right now,” says JGM’s Morral. “I think the market is going to go back to what it was, and I think there will be buses readily available again.”

But what will it take for the industry to get back to how things were pre-Covid? The answer seems to be time; time to train new bus drivers, time for artists to end their tours and time for the appetite for live shows to return to normal. But Forster warns things may get worse before they start to improve.

“A lot of the old school drivers, like myself, over the next two years will be retiring,” he explains. “Then there will be a bigger shortage of drivers and I reckon it’ll take easily five to 10 years.”

So if you’re considering a career change, this might be a good time for a life on the road with a rock and roll band.

The Krasnogorsk is a Soviet movie camera and a suburb of Moscow, but Halifax's Krasnogorsk can be found playing on the number seven bus, in trees, on the Common or on tall ships. Violinist Jacques Mindreau interrupted baritone ukulele player Corey Hinchey's interview with a potential roommate last fall; he "started playing music with him, and never left," Mindreau says. Playing eastern European, Roma-style music, they've been running well-attended open-mic nights in Hinchey's home and playing atypical venues---getting people into a different mindset and "reinvigorating" them. They've played in a bike trailer on a Critical Mass ride and in the mess hall of a Chilean ship with sailors Mindreau met on the harbourfront. Hinchey wants to be a "soundtrack for people's actual lives." They're heading to Toronto on a bicycle-and-hitchhiking tour this month and playing the Atlantic Jazz Festival with Gypsophilia in July. - The Coast - Laura Kenins

The Facebook page promises projected films, booze and "crazy, crazy dancin'!" With Krasnogorsk's eastern European, Roma-style music, Lee Park's violin skills and Scribbler's experimental folk rock all fusing into one evening, the night's bound to live up to its crazy promise. –Holly Gordon - The Coast- Holly Gordon

Krasnogorsk started in the summer of 2008 when Violinst Jacques Mindreau met with Corey Allan Hinchey at an interview that Jacques interrupted for a potential roommate in Halifax. They basically drove away the potential roommate and Jacques never left, fiddling on the roof with Corey with two other musicians they began playing on the local bus, for couples in love, weddings, in trees, for old people and kids, busking on the street and eventually after being more noticed at the tall ships festival, on a 4 mast tall ship and the 2009 ATLANTIC JAZZ FESTIVAL.

Jacques faring from his hitch hiking adventures through out eastern canada the maritimes and Newfoundland is influenced by the sea and sky and highlands of Cape Breton, he has also played with many talented musicians such as the Moonshine Ramblers, and toured with the Grass Mountain Hobos and performed with them at the 2009 Canada Games opening Ceremony in PEI. His playing is very eastern in sound and his melodies reflect his need to express emotion through his passion. He studied film at York University.

Corey Allan Hinchey is a brain child musician, filmmaker, poet, writer, animator and Actor. He has completed a short stop motion film titled a Living Mechanism and has arranged most of the music for Krasnogorsk (meaning blushing or beautiful town or village), which is also the title of a Russian film camera they both used during their earlier years, both their music combines into what people describe as an emotional immaginative journey. They pour their souls and all their might and energy into this project, that they are nurturing. Krasnogorsk plans on playing at festivals throughout the summer and touring across the nation soon to meet with interesting and talented artists and dancing enthusiasts. Their music may re-invigorate your heart and soul if you encounter them.
