Booking.com is part of Booking Holdings Inc., the world leader in online travel and related services.

Verified reviews from real guests.

We have more than 70 million property reviews, all from real, verified guests .

How does it work?

It starts with a booking.

The only way to leave a review is to first make a booking. That's how we know our reviews come from real guests who have stayed at the property.

Followed by a trip

When guests stay at the property, they check out how quiet the room is, how friendly the staff is, and more.

And finally, a review

After their trip, guests tell us about their stay. We check for naughty words and verify the authenticity of all guest reviews before adding them to our site.

If you booked through us and want to leave a review, please sign in first.

How to get great vacation deals?

Vacation deals are a big part of Expedia’s business, so we recommend keeping an eye on our package deals page . We’re proud to offer plenty of discounts on great packages, with many providing discounted rates compared to booking hotels and flights separately. To book last-minute vacation trips , simply input your travel dates and see what's available for your destination of choice. You can filter based on virtually anything you can imagine, including amenities, price, star rating, and more.

29 top cheap weekend getaways in the u.s..

Weekend getaways are often cheaper by default – especially in these destinations.

Top Cheap Weekend Getaways

Asheville, North Carolina, is one of the best places for an affordable weekend escape.

Sometimes you just need to escape from your everyday routine – but you may not have weeks (or funds) on end to spend away from home. For those seeking a quick, affordable trip, we've compiled a variety of cheap weekend getaways across the U.S., organized by region so you can find something within driving distance to keep costs low (or further afield if you're up for the journey).

Top Regional Destinations:

Burlington, vermont.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to enjoy Burlington, Vermont – especially since the best ways to experience it are low-cost or free. Rent bikes and go for a ride on the Burlington Bike Path, which later becomes the Island Line Trail – a stunning pathway over Lake Champlain. You can also stroll Church Street Marketplace, where the Burlington Farmers Market is hosted on Saturdays; sample sweets at Lake Champlain Chocolates; and enjoy a craft beer tasting or two.

Niagara Falls, New York

Niagara Falls including American Falls in foreground and Horseshoe Falls in background, with autumn leaf colors

There's no cost to visit this iconic landmark , and if you want to get up close, you'll find several affordable tours of Niagara Falls – namely boat rides that'll get you up close to the roaring waters. A visit to Niagara Falls, New York, also omits the cost (and hassle) of getting or renewing a passport . Free and low-cost things to do in Niagara Falls include hiking state parks and sampling vinos along the Niagara Wine Trail.

Atlantic City, New Jersey

Cheap weekend getaways

You can enjoy an affordable weekend in Atlantic City – provided you steer clear of (or don't spend too much time at) the casinos. The Thought Card

Trips vs. Vacations: What’s The Difference Between Trip and Vacation?

What's the difference between a trip or vacation?

Trips vs. vacations is an ongoing debate amongst travelers, however, if you’re wondering if there’s a difference between trips and vacations, I’d say absolutely. Although most of us end up using these terms interchangeably, I differentiate the two as much as possible.

I realized the difference a few years ago when my family and friends would rave (and sometimes complain) about how many “vacations” I was going on a year. I politely clarified that although I travel often for leisure, not every “trip” is a “vacation” and vice versa. Actually, now that I think about it, I don’t take many vacations a year.

Trips vs. Vacations

Table of Contents

What’s the difference between trip and vacation?

My “trip” to ireland, my “vacation” to barbados, final thoughts: vacation vs trip.

trips and vacation

So what’s the fundamental difference between a trip and vacation?

The difference is your expectation.

Trips are something that you do and it often has a purpose. On the other hand, vacations are about the experience. What do I mean by this? Well, let’s dive in!

What is a trip?

What do you consider a trip?

My trips are intentional.

On trips, I have an agenda.

I want to see and do something in particular. It usually has a cultural or educational component and I return changed in some way.

During a trip, I put a lot of focus on the outside world and I’m usually out at museums, visiting attractions, chatting with locals and taking guided tours. There’s so much to see and do on a trip.

In other words, on a trip I am extremely active. With that being said, because of this, I usually have very little downtime.

I consider most of my weekend travels to cities like Chicago and Stockholm , “short trips”. These short trips can be anywhere from 2-4 days.

When I drove up to Quebec City to attend a travel blogging conference, that was certainly a trip. I drove 8 hours to the summit, attended the summit and turned back home (I had work the next day). Phew!

During my first trip to Dublin, Ireland I wanted to experience and embrace as much of the Irish culture as I could.

I booked bus tours to see the Cliffs of Moher, Glendalough and Wicklow County.

I joined a free walking tour of Dublin, visited the Guinness Storehouse and the Irish Whiskey Museum .

Not to mention visiting cultural sites like the Kilmainham Gaol where I learned about the Irish fight for independence – I highly recommend checking out Kilmainham Gaol.

I also partied hard – I joined pub crawls almost every night.

Although I took time off of work to travel to Ireland, this was no vacation. This was a trip.

The most relaxing parts of this trip was when I was having dinner and napping on the bus.

You know the saying, “I need a vacation, from my vacation”, it’s a real thing when you go on trips.

The most important thing to remember when you travel is to know the kind of experience you want.

In Ireland, I wanted to see everything (or as much as I could), so I set my expectations on doing exactly that.

Trips vs. Vacations – would you consider my trip to Ireland a trip or a vacation?

What is a vacation?

What is considered a vacation?

Vacations are different from trips because vacations are about the experience.

My vacations focus primarily on self-care and wellness. My main concern on a vacation is to relax, recover from the day-to-day grind and be merry.

On a vacation, I have no agenda and generally, I haven’t put a lot of thought into planning things to do.

Since I’m on my own time, I may wake up late or I may wake up early to go on a morning run. It really depends on how I’m feeling.

With that being said, on a vacation, I usually have no set agenda and I’m not stressing out about anything or anyone. When I set my intentions on going on a vacation I don’t even bring my laptop. I leave work at home.

After a vacation I come home with a nice glow, more meat on my bones and no bags underneath my eyes.

My recent trip to Curaçao was certainly a vacation. I decided that I wasn’t going to do any work on my vacation so I didn’t bring my laptop. I put up an out-of-office away message and I booked a hotel that offered free breakfast so I wouldn’t have to search for food in the mornings.

Last year I spent a week vacationing in Barbados and this was one of my first vacations in a long time.

Aside from booking flights and an Airbnb, I did not plan much ahead of time. I only arranged a Barbados snorkeling tour and I left my schedule open so I could go with the flow.

I ate plenty of Bajan fish cakes and yes, I was living my best life.

trips and vacation

Vacationing in Barbados was the self-centering experience I needed after a hectic quarter at work.

If I went to Barbados with the same expectation to do as many things as I did in Dublin, I would have had a terrible time.

Trips vs. Vacations – would you consider my vacation to Barbados a trip or vacation?

So what’s the final verdict – trips vs. vacations? Are they the same or are they indeed different?

Everything considered, trips and vacations will mean different things to different people, so I urge you to discover the purpose of your travels.

Why do you want to explore a new destination?

Are you going for the food, the local culture or the attractions. Or are you going to relax, connect with nature or catch up on sleep. No judgment.

This doesn’t mean that trips can’t have a vacation component or vice versa, but the underlying difference when picking one or the other is your expectation and purpose.

To help you figure out if you want to go on a trip or vacation, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What do I really want to do during my time off?
  • How do I want to feel during and after my trip?
  • What makes me happy? How can I do more of that while traveling?
  • What do I want to bring home with me, be it cultural understanding, a nice tan or a souvenir from an event?

You might find some overlap between what you define as your perfect trip or vacation and that’s perfectly fine. We all travel differently, however if you want a little bit of both, consider mixing things up by spending some days lounging on the beach and other days exploring attractions.

Remember, it’s your time off, you’ve earned it.

Go out there and spend your free time doing whatever you want. Just decide what kind of experience you want to have before you go – do you want to go on a trip or would you rather go on a vacation?

Vacations vs. trips: it all comes down to perspective. Vacations are for rest and renewal, but trips can be full of discovery, action, and novel experiences. Whichever you choose, they both offer priceless memories and chances for development. Accept every travel for what it has to offer, whether it’s an exciting excursion or a relaxing holiday.

I appreciate the personal touch you bring to your travel experiences, offering insights that go beyond the typical tourist spots.

It’s great that you mentioned that you should spend your free time doing whatever you want whenever you go on a trip or vacation. If you want to take it easy and not participate in too many activities, it could be a good idea to make sure that you are staying in a nice hotel. If you are going to be staying in your hotel a lot, you will want to make sure that it has a relaxing environment.

Your travel tips are great. Enjoying the ride requires keeping them in mind. This year, we plan to travel a lot. thank you for website information

U.S. Warns Spring Breakers Headed to Mexico, Jamaica or the Bahamas

In recent weeks, American travelers to some of the busiest international destinations during spring vacation have been urged by the State Department to exercise extra caution.

A sunset over a calm harbor turns the water and the ski into hues of dark blue and black.

By Vjosa Isai

Don’t wander off the resort after dark. Keep the flashy clothing and jewelry to a minimum. Stay aware of your surroundings. Those are some of the travel rules that Ginger Moore, a retired logistics analyst from Panama City, Fla., adheres to on her solo trips throughout the Caribbean.

Ms. Moore, 75, has always felt safe during her stays in Jamaica, where she’s returning for the fourth time on Wednesday. But this year, while she’s still happy to take a trip, a travel advisory for Jamaica, reissued in January by the U.S. State Department, has elevated her concerns.

“I’m sure there are parts, just like the United States, that you can go into that are not recommended,” said Ms. Moore. Nonetheless, she has taken new precautions for her upcoming trip, like packing additional health supplies and purchasing a security bar for the sliding balcony door of her hotel room.

In recent weeks, the State Department and U.S. Embassies have issued new and updated advisories urging travelers to Mexico, Jamaica and the Bahamas — some of the busiest international spring break destinations — to exercise extra caution after recent violent events, some in tourist areas. Security experts suggest that the advice is largely consistent with advisories of previous years.

Caroline Hammer, a global security analyst at the risk intelligence company RANE , said tourists should interpret the advisories as warnings to exercise caution and avoid specific hot spots for crime, but not as a blanket rule to restrict their travel anywhere in the region.

What do the travel warnings say?

Warnings about spring break travel to certain parts of Mexico came in recent days, while the security alerts and updated travel advisories for Jamaica and the Bahamas were issued in late January.

The State Department has classified Jamaica at Level 3 since 2022, recommending visitors “ reconsider travel ” because of episodes of violent crime. The agency reissued the travel advisory in January to also alert tourists about access to medical services, and warned that “sexual assaults occur frequently, including at all-inclusive resorts.”

Kamina Johnson Smith, Jamaica’s foreign affairs and foreign trade minister, said in a statement published two days later that the country made “serious improvements” in responding to crime and in its health care infrastructure and disagreed with the scope of the advisory.

“The government of Jamaica is disappointed that the language used does not reflect our country’s significant progress,” she said.

Data from the Jamaican national police force shows that as of March 1, several crime categories, including murders, break-ins and rapes, had declined compared with the same period in 2023, though shootings and assault had risen.

In the Bahamas, gang violence and a number of murders prompted U.S. officials to urge tourists to “ exercise increased caution ,” especially in the cities of Nassau and Freeport. Recreational boat tours, jet ski rentals and other water activities are unevenly regulated, the advisory additionally notes, and have led to injuries and deaths.

In early February, two female travelers said their drinks had been spiked during a cruise stop in the Bahamas and accused resort staff of sexually assaulting them .

Last week, in a statement specifically discussing spring break travel, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico reiterated precautions outlined in a State Department travel advisory, last updated over the summer, issued because of crime and kidnappings. It reminded tourists to be cautious when visiting the downtown areas of Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, all in Quintana Roo State.

The advisory also recommends travel by toll road in daytime hours, and to remain near major cities, which have a heightened police presence and other emergency services.

What’s behind the warning in Mexico?

Organized crime groups in Mexico have largely kept violent activity outside resorts to avoid hurting the tourism industry, said Ms. Hammer, of RANE. The cartels, she said, depend on tourists themselves, by selling drugs to visitors and extorting local businesses, and it would generate a heightened response from the Mexican government.

In 2023, tourists spent close to $3.1 billion in Mexico, up 10 percent over 2022, according to data from the tourism ministry, with many travelers Cancún-bound.

A handful of violent episodes last year included the kidnappings of two Americans who had crossed the border near Brownsville, Texas, and were found dead, as well as heated disputes between rival taxi and Uber drivers in Cancún. The violence came on the heels of a number of gunfights and assassinations in late 2021 and early 2022 that rattled tourists along the Riviera Maya .

“The good news is that those incidents that have been reported inside of resorts are extremely, extremely rare,” Ms. Hammer said.

In its latest advisory, the State Department warns that shootings by rival gangs, “while not directed at tourists,” have caught some in the crossfire, even on resorts. Last month, an American woman was killed during a drug-related shooting in a beach club in Tulum. Prosecutors in Quintana Roo said she was a bystander.

Despite these incidents, the security picture in Mexico has generally remained unchanged, said Zachary Rabinor, the founder and president of Journey Mexico , a luxury travel company.

“A lot of this is kind of general, stereotypical fears,” he said, adding that tourists shouldn’t interpret violent episodes as sweeping events, especially in resort destinations most popular with visitors.

“There are definitely still areas that are troublesome, but in general, they are not where tourists are going,” Mr. Rabinor said.

What’s behind the warning for the Bahamas?

In January, the Bahamian prime minister, Philip Davis, shared his government’s plan to tamp down criminal activity after a spate of murders, mostly gang-related.

“If you choose crime, you will face the full weight and might of the law,” Mr. Davis said during a national address on Jan. 24. The admonishing tone was a sharp turn from a celebratory moment just a month earlier, when the Bahamian tourism ministry announced the country had hit a record of eight million travelers in 2023.

While the police grapple with crime off resorts, the Bahamian foreign affairs ministry said, in a statement published shortly after the U.S. Embassy alert, that the country does not believe that tourists are under any new “elevated or increased security risk.”

What can you do to stay safe?

Effective safety measures can be as simple as remaining vigilant, and planning ahead by purchasing travel insurance and updating emergency contact lists. Other general steps recommended in the advisories include avoiding walking or driving off the resort areas at night, avoiding public transit and heeding local laws.

High traveler volumes around spring break may make tourism police forces, in places where they have them, slower to respond to emergency calls, Ms. Hammer of RANE Network warned.

Arranging transportation through a travel company or a resort for excursions or trips to the airport is highly recommended, said Scott Stewart, the vice president for intelligence at the security firm TorchStone Global.

“A lot of times, there’s not a lot of a gap between criminals and taxi drivers in many countries, so using a trusted transportation provider is huge,” said Mr. Stewart.

He also recommends “traveling gray,” a term used in security circles for keeping a low profile, such as by not displaying luxury items that might draw the attention of criminals.

The State Department’s reissued warning raised concerns for Ms. Moore, the traveler heading to Jamaica, but it hasn’t deterred her from making the trip.

“In the tourist areas, I just feel very comfortable,” she said. “I’ve just never had any bad experiences, knock on wood, and I love Jamaica. That’s why I keep going back.”

Travel + Leisure / Reese Herrington

As both a travel and shopping enthusiast, I will admit that I struggle to strike the balance between saving for my next trip and immediately purchasing everything that strikes my fancy. However, in recent months I have been gearing up for a vacation to Norway in the fall, which has led me to become more thoughtful with the purchases I’m making as I enforce more intentional budgeting

With spring and its accompanying warmer weather right around the corner, I can’t entirely deny myself the joy of making a few new additions to my wardrobe for the season, but this year I’m shopping with the stipulation that all of my buys must remain under $100 — and that I am not able to get everything on my wish list. I may only be able to pick up one or two pieces this month, but rest assured that the other items will remain bookmarked in hopes that they rack up greater discounts later this season.

So, without further ado, keep reading to find the eight travel clothing and accessory items I have in my shopping cart right now (well, multiple carts, at that). And I have a feeling that from the perfect New Balance walking sneakers to a dreamy layering cardigan from Everlane , some of these items are going to make it into your travel wardrobes this year, as well.

Madewell The Small Crossbody Transport Tote

I’ll admit it: I’m a bag hoarder. But even that fact won’t stop me from always being on the lookout for my next purse purchase, and my sights have officially been set on this stunning and spacious crossbody from Madewell that’s now on sale for just $90. The primary pocket on this tote is large enough to hold all of my essential belongings, making it a great in-flight personal item, while an adjustable strap ensures that it can be worn as a crossbody or shoulder bag.

Plus, now that I’m at an age where I truly care about the quality of the pieces I’m investing in, I’m happy to report that this bag is made from a durable leather that will remain intact — and in great condition — even with regular wear. It certainly doesn’t hurt that it’s also a top-rated product on Madewell, so I know I’ll be in good company while wearing it.

New Balance 574 V2 Essential Sneakers

I’ve been in the market for a new pair of sneakers to carry me into the spring, and considering I’ve been eyeing this simple, vintage-esque pair from New Balance for more than a year now, it’s safe to say that they’re at the top of my to-buy list. The classic, no-fuss design will be easy to pair with anything in my travel wardrobe from my favorite pair of wide leg jeans to a plain midi-skirt, meaning I won’t need to bring along the excess of shoes that I usually do.

But the best part is that they’re more than just stylish: these shoes are made with comfortable, cushioned midsoles that will offer essential support all day long, while the lightweight design keeps them from taking up too much space in my suitcase.

Vuori Boyfriend Joggers

Since discovering Vuori’s high-quality loungewear offerings earlier this year, I’ve been unable to stop myself from building a seemingly never-ending list of items to shop next from the brand. And seeing as comfy sweats have become my daily uniform while working from home, these Boyfriend Joggers look like the ideal choice for nailing effortless travel style while still looking cool.

Available in sizes ranging from XXS to XXL, alongside six spring-ready colors, these pants boast a dreamy relaxed fit while a mid-rise elastic waistband promises to never dig in — even during an hours-long flight. And for travelers that run hot (like myself), you’ll be just as happy to learn that these pants are made from a moisture-wicking material that’s well-suited for any activity on your travel agenda.

Levi’s Women’s Ex-Boyfriend Trucker Jacket

Finding the best spring jacket for my wardrobe has been a years-long battle, but it seems that Amazon shoppers have done my work for me in discovering this highly-rated denim jacket from Levi’s — and it’s even on sale for 40 percent off right now. The slightly worn design will add an effortlessly cool touch to anything I pair it with (from sweatpants to denim), while the 100 percent cotton structure will only grow more comfortable the more I wear it. And with sizes ranging from XS to XL, I’ll be able to find just the fit I’ve been searching for while ensuring this jacket remains flattering.

Madewell The Petite Harlow Wide-Leg Pants

This year I’ve been actively working to diversify my wardrobe and stray away from adding more denim to my collection, and when I first laid eyes on these wide-leg pants from Madewell, I knew I had found my match. Right now, the delicious (and best-selling) green apple shade is on sale for just $80 and will honestly make for the perfect addition to my spring outfit collection while effortlessly remaining comfortable thanks to the relaxed fit. I already have these pants in the dark navy shade, and whether I’m headed to the office or packing for a vacation, they’ve quickly become one of the first pairs of pants I reach for, so naturally I need to buy them in several other colors. Best of all, they barely wrinkle in my suitcase, which is a travel must.

Everlane The Cozy Stretch Turtleneck Dress

When given the choice, nine times out of 10 I will opt for wearing a dress, and with this cozy turtleneck piece in my closet, it’s safe to say I will be reaching for it as often as possible — and it’s even on sale for a whopping 70 percent off at Everlane right now. Its whisper pink shade is demure enough to be worn during a nice dinner out on the town while traveling, but I also know I could pair it with practically any pair of shoes in my closet, ensuring that I’ll get the most bang for my buck. And since it’s always important to look at the material that your investment pieces are made of, I was thrilled to find that this flattering number is built with a quality blend of wool, polyester, and elastane for a stretchy and forgiving fit.

Everlane The Alpaca V-Neck Cropped Cardigan

A nearly identical yellow cardigan has been sitting at the top of my Pinterest board for years, so when I saw that this cozy layering piece is now on sale for just $59 at Everlane, I knew it was time to strike. Whether I’m in need of a warm in-flight layer, a cardigan to slip on for a morning coffee run, or even an easy piece to style for a day of shopping, this top fits the bill for every scenario I have in mind. At 60 percent off, this piece is a no-brainer purchase — even while saving for my next trip. And if yellow isn’t your color, shoppers also have their choice of four other neutral shades that are guaranteed to match your entire travel wardrobe with ease.

Birkenstock Arizona Birkibuc Sandals

I’ve been wearing Birkenstock sandals for years, and while I’m incredibly attached to the pair I have now, the worn-down sole is a tell-tale sign that it’s time to pick up a new style ahead of the impending warmer weather. The double strap design of the Arizona Birkibuc model remains incredibly secure while sightseeing during the spring and summer (trust me, I have years of experience traveling in them), and cork footbeds even mold to the unique shape of your feet for the most comfortable wearing experience possible from a sandal. Not to mention that the roomy toe boxes will never feel restrictive, so at the end of a long day of strolling around a new city you’ll feel just as fresh as when you first slid them on.

Miami Beach is "breaking up with spring break." Here are the rules they're imposing and why.

By Caitlin O'Kane

Updated on: March 7, 2024 / 12:33 PM EST / CBS News

Vacation hotspot Miami has "broken up" with spring break , imposing new rules for visitors in hopes of preventing chaos. Still, travelers across the U.S. are expected to come out in droves for the annual spring fling, with travel volume ahead of spring break up 6% compared to the same time period in 2023, according to the TSA.

Here are Miami's new rules – and other travel tips for spring breakers.

Miami spring break commercial

While the South Florida hotspot is usually a mecca for spring breakers in mid-March, the city released a video breaking up with the annual event. The video pulls up old headlines about violence and arrests during past spring break weeks.

Gov. Ron DeSantis stopped by Miami Beach this week with a message to visitors: "If you're coming here to enjoy Florida, and to have a good time, fine. If you're coming for these other reasons, if you're committing crime, causing havoc, you're going to pay the price."

He is also sending support to law enforcement agencies in places that attract spring breakers.

Despite the changes and warnings, CBS Miami found people having a good time in the city. "It's vibrant, it's alive, it's so good," said Cassandra Ropert.

"The vibe has been amazing! I mean the people are friendly, the food is really good and obviously as you can see behind me, the party never stops," said Louis Waller.

"It actually has been kind of calm, cause I've been to Miami Beach during spring break and that was in college so I know what the crowds look like then," said Waller.

Miami is imposing spring break rules for visitors — but some don't apply to residents

The city of Miami Beach is instating curfews and DUI checkpoints. The city is also closing parking lots and will be doing bag checks at beach entrances. And police will be making arrests for drug possession and violence.

Each Thursday-Sunday in March, beach entrances will be limited to 5th, 10th and 12th Streets, which will close at 6 p.m. Items like coolers, inflatable devices, tents, tables and similar objects are not allowed and the entrances will include bag checks. Playing loud music without a permit will be restricted. Alcohol and cigarettes are always prohibited on Miami beaches, according to the city's website.

Parking fees in busy garages and lots will be increased to a flat rate of $30 for visitors, except for March 7-10 and March 14-17, when they will be closed. For Miami residents, or employees and permit holders who need to park in these lots during busy spring break weekends, (March 21-24 and March 28-31) the flat fee does not apply. And some lots will only be open to local residents, according to the city's website.

Visitors will also face towing rates that are double the normal cost. They will pay $516 if their car is towed on South Beach and a $30 administrative fee.

The Miami Beach Police Department has also created a new traffic plan that will start at 6 p.m. each Thursday through Sunday in March. The restrictions mainly affect major roads, but local access to some city streets will be restricted to try and prevent traffic.

People who are running illegal short-term rentals like Airbnbs and VBROs may be fined $1,000 to $5,000 a day, according to the city's website.

The street side cafes along Ocean Drive will also be shuttered during the second and third weekends of March, according to CBS Miami.

Where else to travel

Orlando is expected to be the top destination for spring break,  according to AAA , which analyzed travel booking data.

Miami and Fort Lauderdale are expected to be popular for people getting on cruises. Booking for cruises is up 28% in March and April 2024, compared to last year. Cruises departing from Florida increased 60% during this time.

But Florida isn't the only hotspot. International flight bookings are up 20% and hotels are up 37% in March and April 2024 compared to last year, according to AAA. London, Paris, Rome, Dublin, and Amsterdam are the most popular destinations.

Spring breaks usually kick off at the end of February and last into April. But another major event may be contributing to travel in April:  The solar eclipse  on April 8.

Expedia found that travel to Dallas is up 95% for eclipse viewing between April 1 to 8, which is historically a busy time for spring break travel. Travel to Austin is up 90% during this week.

Most spring breakers are heading to traditional vacation spots. Travel to Orlando is up 60%, Punta Cana is up 60%, Mexico City is up 55% and Cancun is up 30%, according to Expedia.

However, the U.S. is  warning against traveling to Mexico during this time.  "Crime, including violent crime, can occur anywhere in Mexico, including in popular tourist destinations," the U.S. Mission to Mexico  said  in a news release last week.

The advisory warned travelers to leave potentially dangerous situations and be particularly careful in the downtown areas in locations like Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum.

They said to be especially careful after dark and warned against using synthetic drugs, unregulated alcohol and counterfeit medication, which have been linked to the deaths of U.S. citizens in Mexico.

Spring break travel tips

TSA Administrator David Pekoske said the agency is working to maintain its usual wait times of 30 minutes in standard lanes and 10 minutes or less in TSA precheck lanes.

Tranportation Security Administration officials advised spring break travelers  in a release to account for extra time in "traffic, parking, rental car returns, airline check-in, security screening and making any airport purchases before boarding a flight."

TSA officials say to be patient – and those who are unruly at the airport or on their flight "may face substantial penalties and possible prosecution on criminal charges."

As always, they recommend travelers follow the rules when packing liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes in carry-on luggage and remember to check alcohol and unloaded firearms. To get through checkpoints smoothly, officials recommend having your ID and boarding pass ready and to talk to a TSA officer if you don't want your photo taken by the facial recognition cameras used to detect fake IDs in 30 airports.

Other options to speed up your time with TSA: Passengers 18 or older can enroll in TSA precheck, which helps you skip long lines in the standard lanes. You can also call ahead for additional support like walking assistance and you can message TSA on social media if you have questions.

SXSW Film Festival 2024: All Of Deadline's Movie Reviews

Some trailers and teasers of the global goofiness have emerged but today’s session “fireside chat” in a packed ballroom at the Austin Convention Center, rolled out “never before seen” footage — of him skewering stale food in the kitchen of a Norwegian rapper, kissing a python at a market in Thailand, and presenting an Argentinian Larry David-lookalike for a young woman there who has a crush on the Curb Your Enthusiasm star. He already knowns the people he visits from conversations with them on his podcast.

“I’m a connection junkie,” he said in a Q&A with Nick Kroll. “I like to get my fix.”

The show marks O’Brien’s return to the small screen since his TBS late-night show Conan ended its run in 2021. The former host of Late Night With Conan O’Brien and The Late Show With Conan O’Brien has a 28-year run in late night, one of the longest.

Conan O’Brien Must Go is produced by Conaco with executive producers O’Brien and Jeff Ross.

Asked about the possibility of additional episodes, he said: “We have a backlog of fans we want to get to. We made these four, then we’ll see … There are some hilarious people around the world that I’ve talked to.”

Status is a big thing in comedy and I like tot be in the lower status, and I am comfortable there … [They’re] making fun of me, and I kind of deflate in a comic way, and that’s where I’m comfortable.”

On his seque from late night television, he said: “I did it for about 28 years and realized that um, ok, I did this, and I really love doing the podcasts, I have a lot of passion for that, and I love doing the travel. And we don’t know how much time we get in life and I really want tot double down on the things I’m passionate about.”

Biden kicks off post-State of the Union travel blitz in Pennsylvania

President Joe Biden kicked off a travel blitz Friday after his State of the Union address , heading to the critical swing state of Pennsylvania to drive home some of the key points he delivered during Thursday’s address.

The president’s speech in a solidly Democratic county almost immediately attacked former President Donald Trump. Biden criticized his record on reproductive rights issues and invoked a family affected by Alabama’s controversial state Supreme Court ruling that embryos are considered children, which prompted in vitro fertilization providers to halt services.

“Do you know why it happened? I’ll tell you why. One reason: Donald Trump,” Biden said Friday of that family’s paused IVF plans. “He came to office determined to overturn Roe v. Wade. In fact, he’s bragged about it repeatedly.”

The president then pivoted to issues including cooling inflation , lowering prescription drug prices and his demand to ban assault weapons .

“Too many corporations raise their prices and pad their profits, charging you more and more for less and less,” Biden said. “That’s why we’re cracking down on corporations engaged in price gouging and deceptive pricing.”

Biden also drew a contrast between his governing philosophy and Trump’s.

“My lifetime has taught me to embrace the future. I mean it sincerely: freedom, democracy, [and a] future based on the core values that have defined America,” Biden said. “Honesty, decency, fairness, equality.”

“Donald Trump sees the story differently,” Biden added. “He sees a story of resentment, revenge, retribution.”

President Joe Biden, right, is escorted by Air Force Cpt. Eric Anderson, 89th Airlift Wing Flightline protocol officer, as first lady Jill Biden, left, talks to Col. Angela Ochoa, commander of the 89th Airlift Wing,

The audience included people who have volunteered or worked for the Democratic Party, the Biden campaign or a similar organization. The high-energy crowd occasionally broke into chants of “four more years.”

Before the president’s speech, first lady Jill Biden delivered a forceful rebuke of her husband’s predecessor: “Donald Trump insults our veterans and disparages those who died in war, calling them ‘losers’ and ‘suckers.’ How dare he?”

“We must meet this moment as if our rights are at stake, because they are,” the first lady said. “As if our democracy is on the line, because it is.”

Aside from the State of the Union, Friday’s speech saw the largest audience for Biden since a January speech centered around abortion rights, which was interrupted more than a dozen times by anti-war protesters criticizing Biden’s response to the Israel-Hamas war.

The president’s speech kicks off what the campaign is calling a “month of action,” during which Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will visit every battleground state.

Biden will visit Georgia on Saturday, New Hampshire on Monday, Wisconsin on Wednesday and Michigan on Thursday, according to the campaign. Meanwhile, Harris visited Arizona on Friday and will travel to Nevada on Saturday, zeroing in on mobilizing Latino voters.

Of those states, Biden flipped Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan and Arizona blue in 2020.

The president’s Cabinet and senior administration officials are also fanning across the country this month, with more than two dozen trips to states including Texas, Ohio, Florida and New York, according to the White House.

The campaign announced on Friday that “Team Biden-Harris” will open 100 offices, onboard at least 350 new staffers in battleground states, and is launching a six-week, $30 million ad buy with “intentional and sizable buys into Hispanic, African American, and AANHPI outlets and radio,” according to the campaign. The campaign often uses “Team Biden-Harris” as a shorthand to refer to itself and affiliated groups, such as the Democratic National Committee.

The $30 million ad buy is in a similar range as certain super PAC ad spending this campaign cycle . The pro-Biden super PAC Future Forward has spent about $20.8 million, the pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc. has spent $39.5 million, the pro-Ron DeSantis super PAC Never Back Down spent about $40.2 million, and the pro-Nikki Haley super PAC SFA Fund spent $64.4 million, according to AdImpact.
