The Shrikhand Mahadev trek is a journey that takes one to the summit of Shrikhand Mahadev (5,227 meters/17,150 ft), which is named after Lord Shiva. The main attraction of this trek is the stunning view of the Himalayan ranges from the Parvati valley. From there, one can observe the Kullu, Jorkandan and Rangrik ranges of Kinnaur, Hansbeshan and other surrounding summits in the southeast of the Satluj river.

The trek can be undertaken by two different routes, one beginning from Nirmand and the other from Arsu. The most popular and well-travelled is the Nirmand-Jaon village option. To reach the base camp, you would have to drive from Shimla to Rampur, crossing the Satluj river and continuing until Jaon Village. This trek can be completed within a span of 5-6 days, including three days of trekking and the full Delhi-to-Delhi journey.

The height of the location is 5,227 meters or 17,150 feet.

Trail Characteristics : This is a difficult trek with steep inclines and rough glaciers paths, as well as rocky moraine sections. Those without prior experience with high altitude treks should not attempt this one.

Railway Station : Jaon Village is 170 Km away from Shimla, the closest railway station. Shimla is linked to Kalka by a narrow-gauge line.

Getting to Jaun : From Shimla Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT), one can take a bus or hire a cab, and travel 130 km to Rampur. Then, they can take a local bus from Rampur to Nirmand in Kullu, and from there, the last 8 km to Jaun is a kuccha road.

Beginning in Jaun, a village in the Kullu district that stands at 6,397 feet, the trek to Holy Shrikhand Mahadev commences. This small settlement is situated along the right bank of Kurpan River, which springs from the base of the Shrikhand Mountain Range. Kurpan is a swift-flowing stream with sparkling water, and in the monsoon it appears to be a wild and dangerous river.

Located in the Himalayan range , Jaun is a small village of about 50 houses and a temple dedicated to Mata Katyayni. The area is approachable from Baagi Pul via a Kuccha road of 8 Kms. The village is surrounded by the picturesque views of mountains, streams, homes and temples, as well as the luscious apple orchards. On a clear day, visitors can also get a glimpse of the holy Shrikhand peak from Jaun. Additionally, it’s the last place to buy some basic necessities for the trek.

You will find the locals of Jaun smiling innocently, welcoming visitors with open arms. Inhabitants of this region are known for their hospitality. To get to know more about the surrounding area, spend time with the locals and learn about the Shrikhand Yatra and how it has become a source of income for the people here.

Heading to Singhgad from Jaon is an undertaking that many take on. The journey often involves making a trek through the hills and valleys of the region. It can be an exciting adventure that many find enjoyable and worthwhile.

Singhgad, located at 6,873 ft., is a 3 km trek away from Jaon. Along the right bank of Kurpan, you will pass through several apple orchards, streamlets, and a village with traditional homes, most of which have two stories. It takes approximately 1 hour to reach Singhgad, as it is a paved path beside the river.

Singhgad is an ideal spot to rest or stay for a while. The location is a holy site and visitors often come to perform rituals during their pilgrimage. Visitors can also visit the temples located here. The area is characterized by its verdant forests and Deodar trees. This is what makes the area renowned for its thick woodlands.

From Singhgad to Thachru – that’s the route one would take.

The next stage of the journey leads to Barathi Nalah, a peak standing at 7,283 ft. This trek of 3 km can be completed within 1.5 hours, and the views along the way are stunning. Part of it involves crossing a wooden bridge made of a Deodar tree, providing an exciting and thrilling experience that brings the adventurers close to nature.

At Barathi Nalah you can take a break before the 6 Km vertical climb of Danda Dhaar up to Thachru. This trek can take up to 6-8 hours and demands a great deal of stamina. You can make rest stops along the route, which passes through the dark deodar forests, where it is impossible to discern anything due to the thickness of the trees. You can however make out the sound of rivers, streams and waterfalls quite clearly. As there is no access to water on the way to Thachru, it is essential to carry enough water to last the journey.

When you are hiking up the hillside, you can observe the varying vegetation and from numerous vistas, the Kullu Himalayas can be viewed. Along the journey, one can come across some large Deodar trees which are many years old. Spectacular birds can be seen on the way to Thachru. Additionally, there are some rocky areas where one can appreciate the scenery of the thick woods and small streams near Danda Dhaar and its surrounding areas.

At an altitude of 11,318 ft, Thachru is the endpoint of the tree line. Herbs and shrubs are the only vegetation in this area. In the evening, the views of the Sarahan and Kotgarh region to the South, Shrikhand peak to the East, and Kullu Himalaya to the West are breathtaking. It is also the ideal spot to spend the night after a 6-8 km climb, as the trek from there to Parvati Baag is gentle and less demanding.

The sacred Thachru, the sacred Kaali Ghat, and the holy Kunsha

A 3 km straight climb from Taacharu to Kaali Ghat takes around 1.5 hours. On the trek, one can come across some of the rare Himalayan flowers. The path is north-facing and has a deep ditch on one side. After an hour of trekking, an open space full of big rocks appears. This area offers a clear view of the surrounding mountains and one can reach Kaali Ghat in the next 15 minutes. It is situated at 12,778 ft and is the top of Danda Dhaar. The vertical ascent that started at Barathi Nala culminates at Kaali Ghat; giving a 360-degree panoramic view of the Himalayas.

At Kaal Ghati , there is a temple devoted to the Goddess Kali that marks the beginning of the next journey. This trek is a gentle one and will take only half an hour to complete the 1.5 km distance to Bhim Talai. This spot is said to be where one of the Pandava brothers, Bhim, once took his bath. It is situated 11,279 ft. above sea level and is encompassed by tall mountains, grasslands, and little cascades. Shepherds can also be found in this area.

The trek from Bhim Talai to Kunsha, which is a distance of three kilometres, can be completed in 1.5 hours. After traversing a large grassland, the path passes through a glacier that is 500 metres in length and 80 metres in width. Following this, there is a vertical climb through rocky terrain to Kunsha, which stands at 12,746 feet. This spot is surrounded by large waterfalls and stunning natural beauty. Here, one can spend many hours admiring the gorgeous waterfalls, clouds and flowers. It is an ideal place to relax and be re-energized by the surrounding nature.

Beginning at Kunsha and extending to Bheem Dwar, there is a flat track with some slight hills. This 3 kilometer stretch takes an estimated two hours to traverse. The trail is dotted with rare Himalayan blooms and numerous shrubs. This location is similar to the Valley of Flowers in Uttrakhand, with a plethora of unique flowers easily visible. The area is expansive, affording a stunning view of valleys, ravines, towering waterfalls, and many small rivulets. Kunsha valley enchants with its captivating sights, from the clouds, mountains, and snow patches to the pleasant sound of cascading streams. It is a picturesque dreamscape.

After your two-hour journey in the meadow of nature, you come across Bheem Dwar, which is situated at an altitude of 12175 feet. As per the stories, it is believed that during the Pandavas’ exile, they stayed here. Nowadays, this place is referred to as Bheem Dwar and it is a large Bugyal encompassed by a multitude of waterways and glaciers. While en route to Parvati Baag, you have to traverse the largest waterfall of the trek.

The Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra, held each July, has its starting point at Bheem Dwar. Shepherds often take their sheep and goats to graze in the area. There are caves here that provide shelter to pilgrims who need to rest. The stunning beauty of the area has a captivating effect, easily drawing people in and making them want to linger and take in the natural wonders.

Located at 13,622 ft, Parvati Baag is just a 3 Km trek from Bheem Dwar and the journey to get there takes around 2 hours. The hike up until the large waterfall is mild, but after crossing it there is a steep 2.5 Km climb to Parvati Baag. It has gained its name due to the legends of Mata Parvati staying in this area. It is a stunning location, abundant with rare flowers from the Himalayas and is particularly renowned for the Brahma Kamal, a flower which can be easily found here. Parvati Baag is situated just beneath the Shrikhand Mountain, and it is said that at night it is possible to touch the sky with your hand.

A journey from Parvati Baag to Nain Sarovar and back can be made. This route can be traveled, with the end point being where it began.

At dawn you must set out heading to the Holy Shrikhand Peak. The last place to find vegetation, such as grass, shrubs and herbs is at Parvati Baag. Moving beyond this location, your path is only moraines and snow. Shrikhand Peak is a mere 6 Km away from Parvati Baag. As you journey to Shrikhand, you will pass through glaciers, streams and stone tunnels.

Heading to Shrikhand Mahadev?

The initial section of the journey to Nain Sarovar Lake is mostly composed of snow and rocks. This lake at 14,527 ft is encompassed by a region of about two football fields and it takes 1.5 hours to get to it. The complete trek to Shrikhand Mahadev is connected with Lord Shiva and Nain Sarovar Lake; it is said that it was formed by the tears of Maa Parvati when she was venerating Lord Shiva.

Maa Parvati is venerated at Nain Sarovar Lake, which is a place of worship. After taking some time to get used to the atmosphere, visitors should return to Parvati Baag.

Backtrack to Nain Sarovar. The climb to Shrikhand is very abrupt and steep from this spot. The initial section of this hike from Nain Sarovar is a glacier of 200 meters. It takes around 45 minutes just to finish this 0.5 kilometer section. It takes a lot of stamina to accomplish this part. Once 45 minutes are spent, you arrive at the peak of a cliff at 14,967 ft. From this point, you can clearly observe the magnificence of Nain Sarovar Lake. Towards Shrikhand, large rocks and glaciers can be seen. If you reach early in the morning, the beauty of Kinnaur Mountains can be viewed from here.

Once you progress further in the hike, you will see snow and moraines in most places. Seven peaks have to be conquered in order to reach the peak of Shrikhand. As the sun rises, you will feel as if you are above the clouds. While making your way to Bheem Bailee, you will cross several glaciers and tunnels made of stones. Bheem Bailee is a holy area dedicated to Bheem, located at an elevation of 15921 ft.

At this place, various marks have been found on stones. Legends speak of Bheem constructing a stairway to Heaven, which was not completed due to the lack of time. By looking at the stones piled on top of each other, one can imagine the stairway. From Bheem Baiee, the holy Shrikhand Shila can be seen. It requires a half hour to reach Shrikhand and one has to go across a vast glacier in order to get there.

At an altitude of 17,150 ft, Shrikhand provides a spectacular view of the Himalayan Mountains from three directions and a captivating sight of Rampur Sarahan and the Shimla hills from the fourth side. Everywhere you go, you can bask in the aroma of nature.

From the summit of Shrikhand Mahadev, an impressive vista can be seen.

From this spot, one can have a view of the Kinnaur Himalaya to one side and the Kullu and Shimla mountains to the other. It is a place where all devotees believe that Lord Shiva is omnipresent.

For the remaining days until you return to Jaon, the route will be identical to the one you took to get to Parvati Baag.

Vishnu disguised himself as a female enchanter, Mohini, and fooled Bhasmasur into touching his own head and burning himself with his own hands.

The greatest time to hike to Shrikhand Mahadev Peak is during the full moon days of July and August when the weather is ideal for enjoying the scenic journey. September is also a good time, more scenic and few people on hike. Official yatra schedule is in July and it’s rainy season.

WHERE IS SHIKHAND MAHADEV LOCATED?

Shrikhand Mahadev located near to Rampur in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. Route is Chandigarh – Shimla – Rampur – Nirmand – Bagipul – Jaon. Jaon is the base village of Shrikhand Mahadev trek.

From Shrikhand Mahadev top on a clear day, you can see Kinner Kailash range, Garhwal Himalayas and many great himlayan peaks.

HOW CAN I GO TO SHRIKHAND MAHADEV

Jaon is a typical himalayan village. To reach Jaon is little tiring journey as it is located in remote area. Chandigarh is well connected in terms of Flight, Train to all the major cities of India . From Chandigarh, book a taxi and it will take 10-12 hours to reach Jaon. Road is well maintained upto Rampur.

By Air: Shimla’s Jubbarhatti Airport is the closest one to Jaon. Road transportation is accessible from there up to the Jaon village of Nirmand, where the trip begins.

By Train: Shimla is once again the closest railway station to Jaon. The voyage begins in Jaon Village, which is 170 kilometers from Shimla and, as previously said, is accessible by road. Chandigarh railway station is more accessible as compare to Shimla. Shimla train is narrow gauge rail line so one has to shift train from Kalka and board the Shimla train, which takes almost full day to reach Shimla.

By Road: A well-established bus network connects Shimla to the Jaon hamlet, where the yatra begins. It takes seven-eight hours to travel by road. Aside from the bus, cabs are accessible from Shimla to Rampur (130 km) and then to Jaon village through Nirmand (Kullu), however, the last 8 km from Bagipul to Jaon is a single and narrow road.

Recommendations: Take a flight to Chandigarh and rest for a night and next day drive to Jaon.

ATM & MOBILE CONNECTIVITY

Last ATMs are available till Nirmand, But it will be better to withdraw from Chandigarh/Shimla or Narkanda. Because you’re on a journey that is taking you far from civilization. It is preferable to bring enough cash to cover the full travel as well as the payment.

The network works up to Jaon village, which is also the base village & starting point of Shrikhand Mahadev Trek. Only Jio, Airtel & BSNL works at Jaon. During the trek, you’ll find Jio & BSNL network till at Kali Top (day 2), Kunsha (day 2) & also some time on the top of the summit but it will totally depend on weather conditions.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE SHRIKHAND MAHADEV TREK

Trekking is very difficult if you have not prepared yourself for hard-core physical activity or a high level of fitness. Let’s face it, it requires a lot of hard work. Sweat is the price of a fantastic trekking. If you want enjoy the trek & great views so prepare well.

Blisters and missing toenails are badges of honor, as are sore calves and aching quads. In exchange, you get some of the world’s most unspoiled, pure, and jaw-dropping scenery.

The more you prepare for such a big hike, the less difficult it will be. Here are some tips to prepare yourself: 1. Start Walking / Jogging ( Daily for 10kms). 2. Start leg-based cardio exercise. 3. Make sure you include stair climbing in your daily routine. 4. Eat healthy food, remain hydrated, and get adequate rest for the greatest results. 5. Breathing Exercise 6. Do a high altitude trek before Shrikhand Mahadev upto 4500 meters is highly recommended. 7. Some of the activities you can do for an intense level of cardio are pull-ups, push-ups, sprints, mountain climbers, burpees, jumping jacks, breathing exercises, yoga & meditation and planks (3-5 sets each).

Shrikhand Mahadev Peak Trek itinerary

Day 1: Chandigarh to Rampur Bushahr (Drive 240Km 6/7Hrs)

Welcome to Chandigarh the city Beautiful- Chandigarh, the capital of the northern Indian states of Punjab, you will be received at the airport in a traditional manner with garlands, Later Transfer to Rampur. Evening check in to hotel for overnight stay.

Meal : Dinner

Day 2: Rampur Bushahr to Singhad (38Km 1/2 Hrs +05Km Trek)

Early morning after breakfast drive to Jaon village. Jaon is a starting point of Trek, The Yatra will start on foot from Jaon village and will continue till Singhad which is about 5 km from Jaon. Over night in Tent/Guest House

Meal : Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner

Day 3: Singhad to Thachdu 07Km Trek

Early morning after breakfast start trek to Thachdu. The next halt will be Barathi Nala which is about 3 km from Singhad. From here, the Yatra will continue till Thachdu. This place is about 6 to 7 km from Singhad. Pilgrims can rest at Thachdu camping site and prepare themselves for the next day’s trek.

Meals : Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner

Day 4: Thachdu to Bheem Dwar via Kali Ghati (11km Trek)

Morning after breakfast start trek to Bheem Dwar by Kali Ghati. Bheem Dwar is the place where Pandu Putra Bheem made stairs to heaven which he could not complete in time. The rocks and bog stones are arranged in a vertical position and something is written on these rocks which is fondly called Bheem Lipi.

Day 5: Bheem Dwar to Parvati Bagh - Shrikhand Mahadev - Parvati Bagh

Morning after breakfast start your trek from Bheem Dwar, next stop is 4 km away called Parvati Bagh. As the name suggests, this place is full of the rare Himalayan flowers. Parvati Bagh also contains the beautiful and rarest flower, Brahma Kamal.

During climb up, you will Cross from the glaciers. and reach Nain Sarovar Lake which is 3 km from Parvati Bagh. Nain Sarovar is a small lake/sarovar which emerged from the tears of Mata Parvati. The Shrikhand Mahadev peak can be seen from the Nain Sarovar Lake and Parvati Bagh, after a trek of about 6 to 7 km one can have the Darshan of Shrikhand Mahadev peak, the abode of Lord Shiva. After darshan of Lord Shiva, trek down to Parvati Bagh.

Day 6: Parvati Bagh to Thachdu (Trek 15 Km)

Morning after breakfast, the trek down to Thachdu from Parvati Bagh via the same route that was taken to climb up the peak.

Day 7: Thachdu to Jaon Village (05 Km Trek)

Trek back to Jaon. Overnight in Tent/Homestay

Day 08: Jaon to Chandigarh (280 Km 7/8 Hrs)

Morning after breakfast drive to Chandigarh by Cab.

Cancellation policy:

Cancellation Charges: Notice of cancellation must be made in writing in the name of Shikhar Travels (India) Pvt. Ltd.

For cancellation made 4 weeks prior to the scheduled departure, there will be a cancellation fee of 50% of the invoice. For cancellation made within 4 weeks of scheduled departure, there will be cancellation charge of 100% of the invoice.

In certain cases the cancellation policy (including conditions applicable on the advance deposit made/required for holding the reservation) may differ & would be applicable as per the cancellation policy of that hotel / Service provider. This will be charged over & in addition to the cancellation policy.

Unused Services & Refund

No refund will be made for any unused services or other arrangements due to any changes in schedule made by passenger while travelling. However, in certain cases, the refund will be considered as per the policy of the carrier/ hotel/ tour company / or other suppliers used for providing services.

Refund request must be made within 2 weeks of the completion of the trip.

If there is any additional expenses due to bad weather or any other reason beyond the control of the tour operator on account of hotel stay, transportation, and meals etc. extra bill will be raised. Neither Shikhar Travels (I) Pvt. Ltd. nor the participating suppliers/hotels will be responsible for the additional expenses.

Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra History & Trek Cost

Yatra was started on July 15, and 900 passengers were registered on the first day of the Journey. At present no new passengers are being registered in Singhad base camp and the Pilgrims are instructed to stay in their camp.

The Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall in the state till July 22. In such conditions the journey to the Shrikhand Mahadev becomes risky. On the very first day a passenger was injured due to dangerous path.

Kullu administration has announced the dates for Holy Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra for 2019. The Yatra will be held from 15th to 25th July and the registration for it can be done between 10 to 14 July at the Tehsil Office of Nirmand.

Before registration the passengers have to present the Medical certificate. Here are some more details and information about the Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra 2019.

A meeting of Shrikhand Mahadev Trust was held in Nirmand on Monday 01 July, in which the dates were announced for the Yatra.
After the meeting, it was announced that the groups of pilgrims will be sent between 15th to 25 july.
Only people above age of 15 years will be allowed to the Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra.
150 rupees registration fee will be charged from Pilgrims.
Medical checkup of all Pilgrims will be done in the base camp of Singhad,after that the registration will be done.
For reaching Shrikhand Mahadev, pilgrims have to go Nirmand of Kullu District via Rampur City of Shimla. From Nirmand, they have to reach Bagi pul then Jaun. Taxis and local buses can used from reaching Bagi pul and Jaun.
This time a special medical camp will be made at Kunsha, where medical facilities will be given to injured and sick people.
Temporary drinking water sources and Toilets facility will also be provided to the pilgrims on the way.
The administration has requested pilgrims for not to hurry and carry basic medicines, stick and warm clothes along with them.

Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra

The Shrikhand Mahadev trek is considered as one of the most difficult treks to do, but nothing can diminish the faith of a true Shiva Bhakt. Every year, the Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra begins in the month of July for 15 to 20 days. Jathas or groups leave for the Yatra after their complete medical examination is conducted by the Trust and they are declared fit to take a trek to about 38 km. It is indeed a difficult trek but once you are in the spiritual zone and the divine Himself calls you to visit Him, there is nothing that can stop you from taking your foot forward to the Shrikhand Mahadev Peak. The Lord Himself gives its devotees the courage to reach up to Him. It is indeed an enriching experience one remembers for lifetime.

This year, the Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra will start from July 15th and will end on 31st July. The registration will be done at the Base Camp Singhad along with the medical examination of each devotee. The REGISTRATION FEES is ₹150. Medical treatment facilities will be available for the sick and injured people at the Kunsha valley special base camp.

6 ways to reach shrikhand mahadev.

Shrikhand Kailash Mahadev is a holy pilgrimage. This place is related to the Hindu Lord Shiva and is one of the five Kailash. The devotees reach here by walking on the very intense path which is 5140m from the sea level. Lord Shiva is situated here in the form of fragmented ‘Shivling’. On the right side of this mountain, there is ‘Kinnar Kailash’ and on the left direction, this mountain is associated with ‘Great Himalayan National Park’. It will be interesting for you to know that Shrikhand Mahadev can be reached in 6 different ways. Before getting information about these six different ways, let’s have a look at the mythological significance of Shrikhand Mahadev.

Mythological Importance of Shrikhand Mahadev

The mythology of Shreekhand Mahadev is that the Devil Bhasmasur asked for a boon from Lord Shiva that whatever he keeps his hand on, that will be converted into Ashes. After getting the boon, Bhasampur determined to marry Devi Parvati. Therefore, Bhasampur planned to place his hand on Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva reached Srikhand by entering the Devdhakkha cave in Nirmand place and was restored as Shrikhand Shila. Then Lord Vishnu disguised himself as Mata Parvati to destroy Bhasmasur’s intention. She persuaded Bhasmasur to dance with him. During the dance, Bhasmasur put his hand on his head and was converted into Ashes.

After the end of Bhasmasur, when Lord Shiva did not come out of Shilakhandi rock, then Ganesh, Karthikeyan and Maa Parvati came to this place, then Mahadev came out after breaking the rock.

Shrikhand Mahadev is a 72ft high fragmented Shivling. Each year, this holy place is officially open for just 2 weeks during Sawan Mas. Since the year 2014, the journey has gone in the hands of the administration, under which all the travel registration of passengers is done in Sinhgad. The online process has not started yet for registration.

Two main routes have been used mainly to reach Shrikhand Mahadev, but some travelers will be aware of the third way. But the real truth is that Shrikhand Mahadev can be reached from 6 different routes, which we will explain below:

The first route to reach Srikhand: Nirmand – Baggul – Jao

Would you believe that this is the easiest way to reach Shrikhand Mahadev. All the people who have seen the vision of Shrikhand through this path know how easy it is, but if you compare it with other paths, then it is the only way you can feel comfortable.

This journey starts from Jao village the distance of Shreekhand Mahadevis approximately 25.5 km from Jao village. 1949 m above sea level. Located on and the distance of Shrikhand Mahadev 5140m is. On this route of journey offline registration of each passenger is done in Sinhgad.

Travelers officially get a variety of assistance in the journey, such as medical assistance, search and rescue, local police and free food and lodging in many places. Due to the narrow width of the path, and the constant climbing, mules, and horses are not available on this route yet. Over the past few years, local boys have grabbed the opportunity to earn extra income by becoming Porter and Guide in this route.

How to reach Jao:

The road distance from Delhi to Shimla is about 350 km and the distance of Dattnagar from Shimla to 125 km. The passengers can reach Dattnagar after traveling about 12 hours from the Volvo or Ordinary bus from Delhi. Every day from Dattanagar, the government bus goes to Baggipul, which costs Rs 50-60 per person. The distance of Baggipul from Dattanagar is about 41 km. The distance between Jao and Baggipul is only 7 km. All types of bus services are limited to Baggipul only. To go from Baghipul, you have to book local taxis, which will cost Rs 100-150.

On this route, you can visit many temples like Nirvana Shiva cave, seven temples in Nirand, Nine gods including Mata Parvati in Jao, Parashuram temple, Hanuman temple.

Where to stay in the 1st Route: There is a facility of free stay and food for passengers on many places till Parvati Bagh. Free Food arrangements are ensured in Nirmand, Jao, Sinhagad, Thachadu, and Bhima Duari. There is also a free lodging facility for travelers in Nirmand, Jao and Sinhagad. Due to limited tents in Thachadu and Bhima Duari, accommodation is provided based on ‘first come first serve’. In addition to free accommodation, Private tents and paid food services are also available on this 1st Route of Shrikhand Mahadev.

Availability of mobile network: On this remote route, there is a network in almost all the places except the Black Valley (Kali Ghati). BSNL, Airtel, and Idea have a network in this area. If your phone is charged up then it is possible to talk to your family from Sonegaon, Khumba Duaar, Thatti Beel, Thachadu, Kali Top. After the Kali Ghatti, there is no network but it is interesting that the network is available on the Bhim Bahi. Keep in mind that the mobile network relies on bad weather and try to keep the power bank with the mobile.

The second route to reach Shrikhand: Jury – Fancha

With 5373 m heights, the distance of this Route from Fancha is about 18 km. Ganavi village is situated on the mouth of this valley, due to which this valley is also called ‘Ganavi Valley’ in the local language. Jury is at 1381 m from the sea level and is located on this route and starts from here. Direct climbing and frozen ice make this route extremely tough. On this route to reach Shreekhand, there is no facility other than the cottages, which makes it more difficult.

How to reach: The distance by motorcycle of Jury from Rampur is 25 km. The road from Jury to Fancha is worth traveling by Vehicle and is 15 km. Fancha is 2214 m above sea level and being a village, all living and eating facilities are available here. There is also the British-made Forest Rest house in Fancha where there are 2 rooms with 4 beds.

Information about Fancha: This second path to reach Shrikhand Mahadev starts with the jury, which is mainly used by local residents of Sarahan and Jury. Let us take a look at some places located on this route where the passengers can stay.

Fancha: After jury, Fancha is the first place in this route where lodging facilities are available. This place is about 15 km from Jury. The distance from Shrikhand to Fancha is 18 km.

Fancha Kanda: After Fancha, the next location is Fancha Kanda, which is 3 km from the Phaka. It is located at the height of 2450m. Here travelers can see some of Himachali residents in the monsoon. If there is any doubt in the way of the road, information about Shrikhand Mahadev Marg can be obtained from these people.

Spava: The next station after Fanta Kanda is Spava. The way you go around the corridors of dense forests. The distance of the spava from Fancha Kanda is around 5 and the place is 3287 m from sea level.

Majbon: Majbon is about 6.5 km from Spava and is at the height of 4000 m. Is around and small boulders are scattered throughout this way. It would be better to call this place rock garden.

Bhim Bahi – Shrikhand Mahadev: Walking from Majbo, this path goes to Bhima Bahi. There is a sharp climb and the passengers have to face standing glaciers also. Due to the frozen ice ahead of this place, travelers may have to face the problem in finding the way. The height of Bhima Bhee is 4890 m. and about 3 km from Majbon. Walking on this route is a good test of shoes.

The third route to reach Shreekhand: Banjar-Badahad

Reaching Shrikhand Mahadev from Banjar-Badahad is much easier than the other two ways. This route has also been used primarily by locals. There is no information of any kind on the internet about this Route. Keep in mind that there is no facility of any kind on this path, so passengers will have to take the tents, sleeping bags and food items themselves, as well as locals, can also help you in this matter if they are available.

How to reach Badahad:

The easiest and shortest way to reach Badahad from Shimla is through the NH-5 / NH-305 whose vehicle’s distance is 191 km. Banjara can also be reached from Kullu which is only 40 km away. That’s it. The driving distance from Banjar to Badahad is 19 km is. Banjar is located at the height of 1356 m and Badahad is at 2050m.

Information about Badahad Road: Badahad village is located at height of 2050 m from the sea level. This is where the journey begins. The first stop of this journey comes at the origin of the river Falacha, where the temple of GodFalach is also located.

The second day the journey begins early in the morning. This day begins with a sharp climb, under which after walking 2-3 km the height increase to 650 m.

On the third day, devotees quickly visit Bhim Dauri and visit Lord Mahadev. So this was the information about the third path to reaching Shrikhand Mahadev.

Fourth route to reach Shrikhand: Gushyeni-Banayag Marg

The fourth route to reach Shrikhand Mahadev goes from Gushyeni. This route is one of the dangerous route. The dangers of this route can be estimated from the fact that this path leads you directly to the base of the Kartik Swami Mountains which is 5100 m high. From Kartik Swami, the route raises the ‘Vimti Passenger’ from the back of Shrikhand Mountain. By this route, Shreekhand Mahadev will not be a journey but a mountain campaign.

There is a good road worth traveling by Vehicle till Gusheni. Banjar is about 10 km away from Gusheni.

Gusheni route leads along with ‘Tirthan river’ flowing in ‘Tirthan valley’. The route reaches the crossing of many villages where the Tirthan river takes the form of a bayalag glacier.

This route is also part of the ‘Great Himalayan National Park’ as well as the Tirthan Valley. There are 11 hidden lakes on the glacier beyond ‘Baniyag’. On the online maps, 11 lakes can be seen with Baniyang Glacier.

The fifth route to reach Srikhand: Jhakdi – Shreekhand Mahadev

Another route is situated between Nirmand and Jury by which the Shreekhand Mahadev can be reached. The fifth route to reach the place of Shrikhand Mahadev leaves from Jhakdi which is 1181 m from sea level. According to locals, this road is even more difficult than Fancha road. So it is advisable not to travel through this route.

The sixth way to reach Shrikhand Mahadev:

Kheerganga – Shrikhand Marg – The sixth route to reach Shrikhand Mahadev starts from Kheeraganga. Over time, this route has been buried under the glaciers. There is not much information available about this route but some information is written on a board “

The route from Shrikhand runs towards Kheerganga and Manikarna but the route is very difficult and full of glaciers.

History behind Shrikhand Mahadev Trek

According to folk tales and legendary stories, there was a demon named Bhasmasur who pleased Lord Shiva through his years long tapasya. Lord Shiva on seeing Bhasmasur’s intense dedication told him to ask for a vardaan from him. Bhasmasur asked Lord Shiva to give him the power to turn into ashes anything he would put his hand on. Shiva blessed Bhasmasur with the vardaan called Bhasma Kangan.

Then one day, Bhasmasur, completely lost in his self-pride and ego thought of turning Lord Shiva into ashes. Shiva had to take the help of Lord Vishnu, who took Mohini avatar to trick Bhasmasur and Lord Shiva escaped into the cave. Lord Shiva then appeared on the mountain top and could see Bhasmasur being tricked by Lord Vishnu who in His Mohini avatar made Bhasmasur kill himself by keeping his hand on his own head.

The mountain peak where Lord Shiva was standing seeing all this is now popularly called as Shrikhand Mahadev peak.

Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra: Routes to be followed

The Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra or Trek starts from Jaon village located in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. There are 2 routes that can be taken up to reach village Jaon:

Shimla – Theog – Narkanda – Rampur – Bushahr – Nirmand – Bagipul – Jaon village

Shimla – Mashobra – Sunni – Gumma – Rampur – Bushahr – Nirmand – Bagipul – Jaon Village

Stages of Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra

Day 1: chandigarh to rampur bushahr.

The pilgrims starting their journey from Chandigarh will have to first reach Rampur Bushahr, which is about 128.7 km from Shimla. This will be 3.5 hour drive via NH5. In total, it will be about 6.5 to 7 hour drive from Chandigarh. Pilgrims will be made to stay in a dharamshala or a hotel for the rest of the day. Yatra will start early morning the next day.

Day 2: Rampur Bushahr to Singhad

Early morning journey will start from Rampur Bushahr and next stop will be Jaon village which is at a distance of 1 h 39 min (39.6 km) via Nirmand and Bagipul. The Yatra will start on foot from Jaon village and will continue till Singhad which is about 5 km from Jaon. People can stay here for the night and take some rest to be ready for the next day trek.

Day 3: Singhad to Thachdu

Next day the Yatra will again start from Singhad after having breakfast. The next halt will be Barathi Nala which is about 3 km from Singhad. From here, the Yatra will continue till Thachdu. This place is about 6 to 7 km from Singhad. Pilgrims can rest at Thachdu camping site and prepare themselves for the next day’s trek.

Day 4: Thachdu to Bheem Dwar via Kali Ghati

Ealy morning, danda chadai will start from Thachru to Kali Ghati, a 3 km trek. After this trek, devotees will reach Kali Ghati and from Kali Ghati, Yatra will head to Bheem Talai and then to Kunsha valley. After 3 km trek, pilgrims will reach Bheem Dwar which is 8 km away from Kali Ghati. It is said that Bheem Dwar is the place where Pandu Putra Bheem made stairs to heaven which he could not complete in time. The rocks and bog stones are arranged in a vertical position and something is written on these rocks which is fondly called Bheem Lipi.

Day 5: bheem dwar to parvati bagh to shrikhand mahadev peak and then back to parvati bagh.

Fifth day of the trek would probably be the toughest as it will be to the last stop i.e. Shrikhand Mahadev peak. But, with the chants of Har Har Mahadev, Jai Bhole plus the satisfaction of reaching till here will make this difficult trek an easy and fulfilling one.

From Bheem Dwar, next stop is 4 km away called Parvati Bagh. As the name suggests, this place is full of the rare Himalayan flowers. Parvati Bagh also contains the beautiful and rarest flower, Brahma Kamal, which is also considered to be Mata Parvati’s favorite flower.

As you climb up, you will have to cross glaciers etc. and then comes the Nain Sarovar Lake which is 3 km from Parvati Bagh. Nain Sarovar is a small lake/sarovar which emerged from the tears of Mata Parvati who was waiting for Lord Shiva, but He took so long to arrive from the mountain top that Mata Parvati broke down and with her tears was made the Nain Sarovar Lake. This lake has frozen mountains and glaciers around it.

The next and final stage of this Yatra, the Shrikhand Mahadev peak can be seen from the Nain Sarovar Lake and Parvati Bagh, if the weather is not cloudy. After a trek of about 6 to 7 km one can have the darshan of Shrikhand Mahadev peak, the abode of Lord Shiva. At this place the pilgrims can feel that their life is fulfilled, it is so divine. After having a proper darshan of Lord Shiva, pilgrims will have to trek down to Parvati Bagh the same day to have some rest at the camping site.

Now, the trek will start back to Thachdu from Parvati Bagh via the same route that was taken to climb up the peak. This will be a 15 km trek down to Thachdu camping site where food and other services will be available.

Day 7: Thachdu to Jaon Village

Enjoying the amazing scenic beauty of the hills, pilgrims will make their way back to Jaon Village, from where the actual Yatra commenced. Here, they can their meals and enjoy their last night as the Yatra will end the next day and everyone will be heading to their homes.

Day 8: Jaon village to Sarahan and back to Chandigarh

This will be the last day of this devotional Yatra. Starting from Jaon village, pilgrims will be made to reach Sarahan which will take about 3 hours and then one can head to Chandigarh, a 7 hour drive. The pilgrims who went from Shimla can stay back at their beautiful city and cherish the darshan of Shrikhand Mahadev top.

Total Cost of Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra

The total cost or total package of Shrikhand Mahadev Trek will be ₹15,000 to ₹17,000 approximately including food and accommodation. However, this package may vary from agency to agency. The cost will also depend upon the number of people going in a Jatha (group).

Check out Moscow’s NEW electric river trams (PHOTOS)

Water transportation has become another sector for the eco-friendly improvements the Moscow government is implementing. And it means business. On July 15, 2021, on the dock of Moscow’s ‘Zaryadye’ park, mayor Sergey Sobyanin was shown the first model of the upcoming river cruise boat.

The model of the electrical boat with panoramic windows measures 22 meters in length. The river tram - as Muscovites call them - has a passenger capacity of 42, including two disabled seats. The trams will also get cutting edge info panels, USB docking stations, Wi-Fi, spaces for scooters and bicycles, as well as chairs and desks for working on the go. The boats will be available all year round, according to ‘Mosgortrans’, the regional transport agency.

Passengers will be able to pay with their ‘Troika’ public transport card, credit cards or bank cards.

The main clientele targeted are people living in Moscow’s river districts - the upcoming trams will shorten their travel time in comparison to buses and other transportation by five times, Mosgortrans stated.

As the river trams are being rolled out, Moscow docks will also see mini-stations, some of which will also be outfitted with charging docks for speed-charging the boats.

Moscow is set to announce the start of the tender for construction and supply in September 2021. The first trams are scheduled to launch in June 2022 on two routes - from Kievskaya Station, through Moscow City, into Fili; and from ZIL to Pechatniki.

“Two full-scale routes will be created in 2022-2023, serviced by 20 river trams and a number of river stations. We’ll continue to develop them further if they prove to be popular with the citizens,” the Moscow mayor said .
