What is a Singapore Tourist Visa?

How to apply for singapore tourist visa, eligibility for singapore tourist visa, documents required for singapore tourist visa, photo specification of singapore tourist visa, processing time, singapore tourist visa fees, after submission, how to check visa status, when you have this visa, singapore tourist visa for indians - definitive guide.

Known as ‘the Lion City’, Singapore is a spectacle. With people and cultures from all parts of the world, this little country is one of the most popular tourist destinations. The Singapore tourist visa has been catering to the needs of several tourists who wish to enter this place.

The tourist visa is an endorsement that lets individuals travel to Singapore to take part in tourism-related activities. A large percentage of nationalities have visa-free entry into the country. However, since India is not among them, a Singapore tourist visa for Indian citizens is a requirement to travel to the nation. The permit is issued in the form of an e visa for Indians and can be granted for a duration of 30 days or even up to 90 days based on the decision of the High Commission as a single-entry or even multiple-entries.

Singapore tourist visa for Indian

The application process for the Singapore tourist visa from India is quite complicated. In fact, it is not possible for you to apply directly to the Singapore High Commission. You can apply it through a local contact in Singapore, through a strategic partner in Singapore, or through one of the authorized visa agents in India.

Before starting the application, you must first check that you are eligible to apply for the tourist permit. After that, you can proceed to make the application as follows -

  • Visit the website of the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore and fill in the application form (Form 14A).
  • You can type it, or it can be filled in by hand.
  • Visit one of the authorized visa agents.
  • Submit the application to them, along with the necessary fees and documents.
  • The agency will then make the application at the respective mission.
  • If asked, attend a visa interview at the Singapore High Commission or Consulates.

Ensure that you provide only genuine documents and fill-in correct information. Providing false information or fake documents can lead to visa rejection.

In order to apply for the Singapore tourist visa for Indians , you must meet the following eligibility criteria -

  • You must be living in India while lodging the application. If you are living on a residence permit in another nation, you will have to apply to the respective authority there.
  • You must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of your entry in the country.
  • Your sole purpose of the visit must be to take part in tourism alone.
  • You must possess sufficient funds to support your stay.
  • The application has to be made by an agency, local contact in Singapore, or a strategic partner in Singapore.

As per the Singapore tourist visa requirements from India , you will require all the following documents to make an application -

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry in Singapore.
  • 2 photographs as per the specifications.
  • A duly filled and signed application form.
  • Confirmed air tickets.
  • Bank statements for the past 6 months.
  • A personal covering letter stating the details of the visit.

The Singapore tourist visa photo requirements state that the photographs submitted must meet the following specifications -

  • Dimensions: 35mm X 45mm
  • Colour: Coloured
  • Head must occupy the central position
  • Must be captured within the last 3 months
  • Background: Solid, plain white or grey
  • 80% face coverage
  • Neutral expression
  • Glasses: Non-thick framed and prescription glasses
  • Headgears - only for religious reasons
  • Facial hair - permitted

The time taken to process the tourist e visa is only 1 working day. However, this can vary significantly based on several factors such as the volume of applications at the mission, the duration and validity, and so on. However, the High Commission expects that you apply for the visa at least 1 month prior to your date of intended travel.

The fees for the Singapore tourist permit is dependent on the foreign exchange rates, as well as the service charges to be paid to the authorized travel agent. As a result, ensure that you check the exact amount before starting the application.

Once you have submitted your application to an authorized travel agency, they will make the application at the High Commission of Singapore in New Delhi, or at one of the Consulates in Mumbai or Chennai, as per the jurisdiction. After this, the respective mission will process your application.

Once your application is approved, your visa agent can download the e visa from the respective portal and send it to you. You can then take a print out of this and carry it during your travel.

To know the status of your tourist permit application, you can click here and enter the reference number and your passport number. However, since the visa agency will be making the application, it is easier if you contact them to know the status.

On successfully obtaining your tourist permit, you must keep in mind the following few points to ensure that you have a hassle-free journey -

  Before you travel -

  • Note the validity, stay duration, and the number of entries mentioned on your visa. You must not stay in the country beyond this period.
  • Carry all your travel documents before you travel to the country.

At the border

  • You must show your passport with the visa to the immigration officer at the port of entry. Your entry stamp will be placed on the passport.
  • You may be asked to show the copy of the other documents submitted as part of your application.
  • You may be asked about the basic details of your visit. Ensure that you answer honestly and without any hesitance.

When you enter Singapore

  • While you are on a tourist permit, you cannot take part in any work or business activities.
  • You may extend this type of visa.
  • Carry a copy of your passport and visa while you are travelling within the country.
  • You must respect the culture and customs of the country, as well as abide by the immigration laws during your stay.
  • Singapore is known for having hefty fines for breaking laws. As a result, ensure that you strictly abide by them.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can i extend my singapore tourist permit.

You can extend the Singaporean tourist permit easily. You can extend it by using the same ICA portal you have used to get the application form. However, you will have to meet certain criteria for it, as well as submit certain documents. If you are unable to extend your permit, you must leave the country immediately.

After Expiring My tourist visa for Singapore, How Long Can I Stay?

Once you have expired your tourist permit, you will not be able to stay back any longer. If you wish to stay longer, you must apply for an extension in advance. Staying back in the country after your visa expiry is considered as an offence and can lead to hefty fines or even deportation.

What is the Medical Test required for a tourist visa for Singapore?

As per the regulations, there is no requirement for a medical test for Indian citizens since the stay duration is less than 1 year. If it exceeds a year, you will have to provide yellow fever vaccination certificates. In either case, it is recommended that you get a medical test done before travelling abroad.

Can I Convert My Singapore Tourist permit into a Work permit?

No, it is not possible to convert the tourist visa into a work permit. You are also not allowed to work while you are on the tourist category. If you require to work in Singapore, you must return back to your home country and apply for a work permit.

How Much Bank Balance is Required to Get a Singapore Tourist permit?

The High Commission requirements do not mention a specific amount for applying for the tourist visa. As per the requirements, you are simply expected to possess sufficient funds to support the entire duration of your stay. You must also make sure that the funds are easily accessible to you and that your transaction history is stable.

How many months before the trip should I apply for a tourist visa for Singapore?

Even though the processing time for the tourist category is quite short, due to several complications and the indirect approach to applying for the visa, the High Commission of Singapore recommends that you start the application about 1 month before your intended date of travel.

How to apply for a Singapore tourist visa

How to apply for Singapore tourist Visa from India

Disclaimer : This post is a guideline for applying for Singapore tourist visa for Indian passport holders. The information is up to date at the time of writing this post. I will try to keep it as much updated as possible. You are advised to contact the embassy directly for specific questions not covered in this blog post.

Singapore offers a 30-day tourist visa for Indian passport holders and I have tried to answer as many questions I could think of when applying for a visa.

Do Indians need a visa to travel to Singapore?

Yes, all Indian citizens travelling to Singapore need a visa; unless you hold a diplomatic or official passport. The visa process is unfortunately not a very simple one like many other countries; unless you live in a metro city.

How long can an Indian tourist stay in Singapore?

Indian tourists can apply for a Singapore tourist visa that allows a stay for a maximum period of 30 days with a validity of 2 years. That said, it is up to the immigration to decide if they issue a single entry or multiple entry visa.

What is the Singapore Visa application process?

While Singapore visa application process is online, it does not mean tourists can just log in and apply for themselves. The visa application needs to go through authorised agents. Unlike countries like UAE, Malaysia etc which have assigned this job to VFS, Singapore has authorised travel agents to do this. This is where the process becomes complicated because then there are no standard procedures. Travel agents can charge anywhere between Rs.1900 to Rs.8000 per person for getting the visa. The visa application fee is SGD $30, which is approximately Rs.1500. Agents can charge anywhere upwards of Rs.300 as service charges.

Singapore has consulates in Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai. Depending on where you reside, the travel agent will need to apply for your visa in one of the consulates online. The consulates do not take walk-in applications and individuals are not allowed to apply online.

What are the documents required for Singapore tourists visa?

Common documents for everyone travelling to Singapore:

  • Passport: Every person travelling needs to have a passport valid for 6 months from the date of entry in Singapore. Even infants need a passport. If you have had old expired passports, you need to present them too.
  • Form 14 A: Form 14A-Singapore Visa . One copy duly filled per person.
  • Covering letter stating the purpose of your visit.  Download covering letter format for Singapore visa
  • Two colour photographs of size 35mm x 45mm, taken within six months, against a white background, on a contract costume, on a semi-matte finish, both the ears visible with 80% of the face.

Additional documents:

  • A copy of the onward ticket or return ticket.
  • Only for newly married
  • Going to get married shortly, wedding Card/Betrothal Photos with an NOC from parents, along with the Signature proof.
  • If married and spouse name is not endorsed on the passports.
  • If the applicant’s passport is not issued in the area where they are applying for the visa, a copy of an address proof letter (ration card, E.B. card, vote id, driving license, Bsnl/Airtel/Reliance/Tata Indicom landline bill, tenancy agreement) is required. For eg., if you are residing in Mumbai but your address in the passport is of Delhi, you will need an address proof.
  • Latest 6 months bank statement with bank stamp and signature.
  • For people who are in service: NOC letter on company letterhead, a copy of Employee ID.  Download NOC Letter format for Singapore Tourist Visa
  • For people in business: Covering letter on Business letterhead, Visiting card.
  • For retired people: Retirement proof
  • For students: School ID card copy
  • For married ladies travelling without their husband: NOC Letter and Signature ID proof from Husband/ Death Certificate if husband not alive.
  • Invitees Passport and Visa copies
  • Invite Letter from the invitee
  • Form V39A – Letter of Introduction. Download FormV39A-Singapore Visa .

How many days in advance can I apply for Singapore tourist visa? How long does it take to get the visa?

Singapore tourist visa application forms are accepted a month in advance. Processing time is usually around 3 – 5 working days excluding Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. If you are not staying in a metro city, sending documents and receiving them back by courier could take time, so apply with these in mind.

How do I get the list of authorised visa agents?

Download the list of authorised visa agents (AVA):

  • Singapore Visa Agents – Delhi Kolkata Lucknow Jaipur List 2017
  • List of Authorized Singapore Visa Agents-Mumbai consulate_2017
  • Singapore Visa-List of Authorised Agents Chennai Consulate_June 2016

Note that some of them are not updated and the agents listed may not be handling the visa applications now. You can get the updated lists from the various consulates website:

  • High Commission of the Republic of Singapore – New Delhi:   http://www.mfa.gov.sg/newdelhi
  • Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore – Chennai:  http://www.mfa.gov.sg/chennai
  • Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore – Mumbai:  http://www.mfa.gov.sg/mumbai

If you are staying in non-metro cities, these travel agents require you to send documents by courier or hand them over in person. I am personally not in favour of sending passport by courier and make sure you use reliable courier services like BlueDart or Fedex. If you can, visit the closest authorised agent and hand them over the documents in person. This also ensures that the documents get verified immediately and you can provide necessary clarifications/ documents at the same time. You can then ask them to send you the documents back by courier after applying for the visa.

There are online agents like musafir.com, visahq.in; but it is best to get in touch with the authorised agents directly.

How can I check my visa application status?

After your Singapore visa application is submitted, the Visa agent will issue an application reference number to you. Application number would be something like:

  • CNAxxxxxxSAxxxxxxxx (if applied in Chennai)
  • DELxxxxxxSAxxxxxxx (if applied in Delhi)
  • MUBXXXXXXSAXXXXXXX (if applied in Mumbai)

Follow these steps to check the status of your visa application:

Step 1: Go to Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) website at www.ica.gov.sg Step 2: At ICA homepage, check for the section “Frequently Accessed eServices” and click on “Apply for Entry Visa(SAVE)”. The link is  https://save.ica.gov.sg/save-public/ Step 3: Scroll the page down and click on “Status Enquiry”. Link is  https://save.ica.gov.sg/save-public/index.xhtml Step 4: Key in your Application Reference Number  and Travel Document Number (Passport number) Step 5: If your application is approved, click on “Proceed” to get the copy of the e-Visa or know the status.

Thanks for the detailed information!

hi,i stayed last year 29 days in Singapore with my one month tourist visa and come back India before the end date, next time ,after 3 months my visa application was rejected,do you have any idea when can i apply next?

Very Informative. Thanks 🙂

Hi, Thank you for the information and the links to the documents. Very crisp and provides all the information needed. Thank you once again.

You are welcome..glad it helped 🙂

hi there, may i l know within how many days should i visit Singapore after securing a multiple entry visa . I plan to leave for south asia trip by November from India for around six months and i want to secure my Singapore visa from India rather other countries. i assume the multiple entry visa shall be for 2 year validity and max stay of 30 days. But what if i fly to Singapore after 2 or 3 months from the via approval date?

You need to submit your return tickets and date of travel when applying for your Singapore visa. It is upto the embassy to grant a visa for the no.of days of your travel or 2 yrs. We got a 1 month visa the first time we travelled to Singapore. But a 2 yr multiple entry one the next time we applied.

Hope it helps! Priyanka

Hi, I worked in IT company for 4 years and quite job in 2017, then joined with my dad to grow his business. Now planning to go singapore by next month I’ve booked flight tickets but my last 6 months bank statement not much higher range.. please confirm will this affect my visa approval ?

The travel agents ask for bank statement but it does not matter much. I suggest you make all your bookings in advance (hotel/return ticket/attractions) and carry enough cash (either as cash or prepaid travel card) to prove to immigration authorities in Singapore that you can sustain yourself in Singapore for the no. of day you are there. That should give them no reason to create any issues.

Hi Priyanka,

I am travelling to Singapore for work for 3 days & extending my trip for next 3 days with my colleagues. My company will be booking my flight tickets & hotel this week and apply for visa next week.I just got my passport reissued from minor to major with a 8 year gap. I have not traveled anywhere before. My bank statements closing balance for the last 6 months would not be more than 5k however my transactions are between 20k to 1.5 lac. Will it affect my visa approval in anyway? I will have a company noc letter made.

I am not a visa/immigration expert. However, if your company is getting your visa done, I don’t think there is any reason to worry about. Business travellers have expenses taken care of by their company and visas are not a hassle; especially such short terms ones. In any case, I hope you would be carrying a some kind of prepaid travel card that will help you with your expenses there and also let to show the immigration authorities that you have enough money (in case reqd).

Enjoy your trip 🙂 Priyanka

Sorry I mean in the cover letter do I need to mention everything abt past and future? or just mention that I am going there for tourism? And also can I state that my parents are sponsoring for the trip .

Hi Radhika,

You do not need to mention about your past/future in the cover letter, but state that you parents are sponsoring your trip. I would advise you contact a travel agent to get all your documents in place if you are not sure about things.

regards, Priyanka

Do I need to mention abt my past exp and also abt my future plans in form 14A or just mention I am a student and attach a copy of my admission letter and also get a letter from my parents who will sponsor me for the trip. Will this be helpful for Visa

If you look at Form 14A, it only asks you for your occupation, in which you can mention “Student”. You do not need to furnish any other documents related to your admission(though you can carry a copy with you, in case immigration officer wants to check). You can get a NOC letter from you parents with a signature proof of their ID.These should be enough for you.

Hi I am planning to visit Singapore for 3 days after which I’ll leave to Malaysia for 2 days and from there I have my return ticket to India. I was working with my company for 3 years now I have quit my job to pursue my masters and have got an admission abroad and also received the admission letter. Now will this gap of 2 months affect me in getting a visa for Singapore. I have a Malaysian Visa and have booked hotels everything in Malaysia. For Singapore I’ll be staying in my friends hse who has a pr and has sent me all the invite letter etc

If your friend has a Singapore PR, he/she can apply for a visa for you onlin. Visa is 30 SGD and you will save the hassle and charges associated with a travel agent. Getting a visa should not be a problem as long as you are carrying all required documents and enough cash with you. Enjoy your trip:) Regards, Priyanka

Hi Priyanka, I got married 2 months before & travelling to Singapore with my wife for honeymoon purpose, So Do we require a Marriage Certificate to apply for Visa ? We have already applied for the Marriage certificate and have its receipt with us. Also, both our names are as same as in passport & all documents, means my wife surname has not changed to my surname yet. Please suggest how to apply for the Visa as the travel date is within 30 days.

Congratulations 🙂

There should not be a problem with your wife’s surname. You can talk to your travel agent with whom you are applying for visa should guide you about the documents. Usually, they will not need the marriage certificate.

Enjoy your trip. Priyanka

My annual income is 3.5 lacs per annum which is less, did I need to submit 6 month bank statement for my travel to singapore for applying visa,is it necessary?however i have booked flight and hotel tickets

Hi Nishchal,

The travel agent may ask for your bank statement, but that should be okay. That should not affect your via. When travelling, I recommend you make most of the bookings in advance (hotel/attractions etc) and carry a pre-paid travel card with SGD loaded. Or have an international credit card with decent limit.

Hope this helps! Priyanka

I am an educator traveling for educator exchange event in Singapore in March 11. I have to submit docs but as I am.employed the school refused to give visa application letter on letterhead as they already gave NOC, but as per company inviting, the consulate asks for the same on it, kindly suggest what could be the way out as very few days left. Plz help

Hi Krupali,

We travel as tourists and can give you advise only for tourist visas. You will have to check with people who have attended the event earlier on how to obtain visa or check with the consulate.

Sorry I cannot help you out on this. Regards, Priyanka

Hey… what about unmarried women who are travelling solo. What additional documents do they need to submit ? Any idea ? I have been taking a break from my job because after few months i am planning to enrol in a course abroad. So i am planning a solo trip to Singapore. Will my being unmarried and unemployed pose a problem in getting the visa ???

While there is no rule that says you need any additional documents, you may be required to submit a letter from your parents stating they have no objection in you travelling to Singapore( download the format of the letter ). This is more of a precaution by the travel agents to know that you have financial backing from parents if required. You may also be required to submit 3 months bank statement, which most travel agents anyways ask for.

Hi, Many thanks for a detailed information on Visa process for Singapore & Malaysia. From comments its obvious that its helpful to frequent travelers & first time travelers like me.

I am travelling to Malaysia & Singapore in August. Brief Itinerary is as follows – 25/8/2017 – Mumbai – Kuala Lumpur (Flight) 26/8/2017 & 27/8/2017 – Kuala Lumpur 28/8/2017 – Kuala Lumpur – Johor Baru (Check point) – Singapore (Exit Malaysia/Enter Singapore by Road) 28/8/2017 – 1/9/2017 – Singapore 2/9/2017 – Singapore – Mumbai (Flight)

I have booked flight tickets from Mumbai to Kuala Lumpur & from Singapore to Mumbai. I will exit Malaysia & Enter Singapore by a land crossing/border. This land crossing is mentioned as entry point on the Visa website.

The eVisa/eNTRI FAQs say that “Applicant also must have a return flight ticket to India, Singapore, Thailand or Brunei”.

I neither have a return ticket to Mumbai from Malaysia nor have air ticket from Malaysia to Singapore. I have confirmed accommodation proof for Malaysia & Singapore.

In view of above, not having a return ticket to India be a problem in getting Malaysian Visa ?

Thanks & Regards, Rajendrakumar

Since you have return ticket to India from Singapore and bus ticket from Johor to Singapore, you should not have an issue with immigration. However, I suggest you have a online chat on their website to confirm once. In my opinion, you will not have an issue if you take eNTRI.

This process has started recently so let us wait a while to hear from other travellers too. By the time you will have to apply, things will get clearer.

Thanks, Priyanka

Thanks ! I tried online chat number of times but it simply doesn’t work. As I start typing the message, the window disappears.

You still have 4 months, so we can wait for things to settle down. The process is new and maybe not very robust right now.

Singapore plans to make visa process easy for Indians

 alt=

The Singapore Tourism Board is working on an easy tourist visa process for Indians and is expecting over 1.5 million visitors from the country in 2024. As per reports, the country is focusing on increasing its hospitality infrastructure such as hotel rooms, and working on seamless and easy visas for them, a senior tourism official said recently. Before the pandemic-induced lockdown, Singapore had received 1.4 million tourists from India in 2019, which then recovered to 1.1 million in 2023.

In 2024, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has not set any target given the huge tourism potential of the Indian market. With three offices in Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai, the STB is working on getting seamless and easy visas for Indian tourists, Poh Chi Chuan, executive director of Exhibition & Conference at the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) told PTI.

More hotel rooms, new carriers The island state is building infrastructure for tourists and business travellers, such as 9,000 new hotel rooms that are being added to about 72,000 existing rooms. We need visitors to come and fill these rooms, Poh underlined and hoped The flights between India and Singapore get back to the pre-pandemic level. New carriers are operating in India and once they start flying internationally, the number of tourists would increase, Poh added at a press conference.

Are you planning a trip to Singapore from India? You must be thinking of how, when, and how many days in advance to apply for the visa. The process of a Singapore visa for Indians is simple. We have answered all your questions about the Singapore tourist visa from India in this post.

The biggest hurdle for us Indians while planning to travel abroad is getting a visa. The hassle of securing a visa on an Indian passport subdues the idea of traveling abroad.

What if I say there’s no need to plug away at the piles of paperwork and oodles of banal and archaic details for getting a visa?

Yes, Singapore , every traveler’s dream, goes easy on Indian passport holders. The process of a Singapore Visa for Indian citizens is as quick as it can get!

Singapore remains one of the desired travel destinations for Indian travelers. As per reports, Indians count as the third most visited foreign nationals in Singapore.

Due to the increasing number of tourists visiting the island country from India, there’s always an immense gush for visa applications at SHC. The good news is that the visa process for Singapore is simple, smooth, and wonderfully streamlined for Indians.

Singapore High Commission has demarcated foreign nations based on the visa entry requirements into Level I and Level II assessment countries .

India belongs to Level I assessment countries.

Be informed, that a Singapore visa on arrival isn’t an option for Indian citizens. The official, diplomatic, and service passport holders in India don’t need a visa to enter Singapore.

Let’s discuss the whats, hows, wheres, and whys of the Singapore Tourist Visa.

Singapore Visitor/Tourist Visa

What’s a Singapore Tourist Visa?

A Singapore Visitor Visa is a non-immigrant multiple-entry e-visa for a temporary visit for tourism and business purposes in Singapore.

Singapore Visa for Indians

How to get a Singapore tourist visit from India?

Getting a Singapore e-visa for Indians is quite easy and effortless. Singapore High Commission doesn’t accept individual walk-in applications. SHC accepts the visa application through local sponsors or certified agents only.

As discussed, there are two ways to get the e-visa for Singapore –

  • Apply through a local contact (At least a 21-year-old Singapore citizen or a Singapore permanent resident) with a SingPass account. He or she can apply online via the SAVE ( Submission of Application for Visa Electronically) system at ICA and print or collect the e-visa at ICA and send it to you.
  • Apply through a certified visa agent or strategic partner in India designated by ICA.

Authorized Visa Agents for Singapore Visa

Where do I get a list of authorized visa agents or strategic partners in India for a Singapore tourist visa?

The lists can be found on the consulate’s website. Below are the links for you to download the lists of Authorised Visa Agents (AVAs) designated by the Immigration and Checkpoint Authority of Singapore (ICA) –

Note: These lists get updated periodically. You can refer to the embassy’s website for the revisions.

The agents have been given SAVE strategic partner accounts using which they can submit the applications online on behalf of the applicants.

We chose Cox & Kings in Delhi. The process was seamless. We got our e-visa with 2-year validity in 1 working day.

Note: Always choose the authorized visa agents designated by ICA only. There are online agents like Musafir, VisaHQ, and many more who aren’t affiliated with SGH and charge an exorbitant service fee for the visa. ICA hasn’t authorized these online agents plus they don’t even have the right and complete information about the visa process (ask me how I know!). Sadly, when one searches the internet, these online agents are the first to pop up on the computer screen. If someone isn’t aware of the process and the fee, he or she tends to rely on them. We have had our own share of mistakes and learned from them. Based on my share of bad experiences, I thought of putting this here so that others don’t fall trap of these online agents.

Singapore Visa Application Status

How and where can I check my Singapore tourist visa application status?

You can check the status of the application online using the passport number and the visa application reference number given by the agent.

Follow these simple steps to check the visa application status:

  • Go to the ICA’s official website .
  • Click on the Check Status/Make Appointment section on the left side.
  • You’ll find many options under the Check Status of Online Application section. Choose the Entry Visa option to open SAVE .
  • Scroll down and click on Enquire Application Status.
  • Key in your travel document number (passport number) and the visa reference number.
  • Check the status. If approved, you can take a printout of your e-visa.

Singapore Visa Processing Time

How long does it take to get a Singapore tourist visa?

The e-visa process usually takes anywhere between 4 to 5 days excluding the submission date, weekends, and public holidays. Some applications may take a longer visa processing time.

Singapore Visa Validity

How long is a Singapore tourist visa valid?

The validity of the visa varies between 30 days to 2 years from the date of the issue based on the merits of the application (at the discretion of the SGH) and the subject of approval.

Duration of Stay with the Singapore Visa

How long can an Indian citizen with a valid Singapore tourist visa stay in Singapore?

One can stay and travel around Singapore for a maximum length of 30 days.

The 30 days can be used in one go or can be stretched over the period of e-visa validity (2 years) from the date of issue through multiple entries.

Singapore e-visa is considered pre-entry permission to enter Singapore.

The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at the checkpoint, decide and issue the immigration pass to enter and stay in the country.

It’s advisable to check your passport for the arrival visit pass approval for the period of stay granted by the ICA before leaving the entry checkpoint.

The granted period of stay is unrelated to the validity of your visa.

In a scenario where your visa validity period is still active, but you’ve exhausted your 30 days of stay duration, you won’t get another visa to Singapore before the visa validity period expires.

Singapore Tourist Visa Fees

How much is the processing fee for the Singapore e-visa?

The electronic Singapore visa processing fee is around 30 SGD which is 1534.73 INR as per the current exchange rate.

The visa fee is non-refundable even if your visa is rejected or you choose to withdraw the application.

Authorized Visa Agent Service Fee for Singapore Visa

How much is the authorized visa agent’s service fee for a Singapore e-visa?

The agent’s service fee is 300 INR per application. There’s an additional charge for the home pick-up of documents.

Singapore Visa Rejection

Does a Singapore visa get rejected? Do they tell the reason for rejection?

While most people get a Singapore visa easily, I have heard of cases where the visa got rejected by the consulate and sometimes by ICA. At that, they don’t even give the reason for rejection.

We can just assume or presume.

The possible reasons are – Invalid documents, wrong information, unclear photographs, immediate reapplication for a visa without knowing the reason for rejection of the previous application, overstaying during the first visit, and applying for the second visa while the current visa hasn’t expired.

Reapplication for Visa after Refusal

Can I reapply immediately after my e-visa application is rejected?

There’s no set time limit as such. A visa can be applied for immediately. But, in my opinion, it’s better to give some time before you again apply for the visa.

To reapply, submit a fresh application via SAVE and pay the visa processing fee again.

You need to submit the visa application form with the documents (additional, if any) to the Singapore High Commission for reconsideration.

Singapore E-Visa Extention

Can I extend my stay in Singapore?

The visa can be extended for a further 90 days. If you feel the need to stay in Singapore beyond the allowed period, you may apply for an extension of your visa online via an e-XTEND or at the Visitors Services Centre (VSC) before the current visa expires. The extension of the visa is subject to approval.

Visa-Free Transit Facility(VFTF)

Am I eligible for Singapore’s VFTF as an Indian citizen?

Singapore grants 96-hour visa-free transit to Indian passport holders provided they have a valid onward air or ferry or cruise ticket plus a valid visa or a long-term pass to one of these 8 countries – Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, the U.K., the U.S., Germany, and Switzerland.

Also, Indian citizens need to satisfy the entry requirements laid by the ICA at the Singapore checkpoint.

They can enter Singapore by any means of transport but the departure should be via air or sea.

The transit facility is applied either during the forward or return leg of the journey, not both.

Indian travelers with used or no longer valid Single Journey Visas (SJV) from the listed countries can be granted a Visa-free transit facility on the return leg of the journey given that the traveler travels directly from the SJV issuing country to his home country en route to Singapore and he hasn’t returned to his country since the SJV was last used.

The ICA (Immigration and Checkpoints Authority) officers check the entry assessments.

Stay extension for transit Indian travelers isn’t available.

Refer here for detailed information.

Damaged or Lost E-Visa

What should I do if my e-visa is damaged or lost?

Use the Submit Inquiry function in SAVE and reprint the e-visa putting your passport number and application reference number.

Transfer of a Valid Visa from the Old Passport to the New One

Can I transfer a valid visa issued on my old passport to the new one?

You need to apply for a new visa if you are planning to travel to Singapore with a passport that is different than the one you submitted during the visa application before. The process remains the same.

Tips for the Singapore Tourist Visa

  • Fill out the form with caution. Incomplete forms or forms with incorrect or false details are rejected or take longer than usual time to process.
  • Keep the e-visa print with you all the time during your stay in Singapore.
  • ICA handles the Singapore visa process. Visit their website or mail them for more information on the visa process.

China-Singapore visa-free era boosts two-way tourism

On February 9, the agreement between China and Singapore regarding mutual visa exemption for holders of ordinary passports came into effect. With the implementation of the "mutual visa exemption" policy, two-way travel between China and Singapore has become easier.

Singapore has always been one of the most popular outbound destinations for Chinese citizens, and the visa waiver policy between the two countries is conducive to the development of tourism on both sides. The implementation of the visa-free measures will further strengthen Singapore's status as an international tourist city, and play an important role in Singapore's service economy. The visa-free era will also promote people-to-people cultural exchanges, which will play an important role in the long-term friendship and mutual understanding between China and Singapore.

First of all, Singapore has a convenient and efficient transportation system as a regional transport hub. Singapore's Changi Airport is one of the busiest aviation hubs in Asia, and Chinese tourists can easily reach Singapore by different flights. With the surge in demand for two-way travel between Singapore and China, airlines will operate between the two countries at a much higher frequency than before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Furthermore, as an international tourist city located in Asia, Singapore has abundant tourism resources and unique cultural exchanges. Singapore is home to world-renowned attractions such as Sentosa Island and Gardens by the Bay, among others, which are attractive to Chinese tourists. Given the constraint of its relatively limited land area, Singapore continues to develop tourism content. Gardens by the Bay is one of Singapore's most iconic tourist attractions, as well as the newly completed Singapore Bird Park at World of Wildlife.

In order to attract more Chinese tourists, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has been actively engaged in marketing and promotional activities and has partnered with China's tourism agencies to enhance the visibility and influence of Singapore's tourism in the Chinese market through brand promotion.

Singapore also participates in travel exhibitions held in China to showcase its tourism resources and services to further attract Chinese tourists. In addition, the STB signed a two-year strategic cooperation memorandum with UnionPay International in November 2023, to create a more convenient payment environment for inbound Chinese tourists.

Chinese tourists' interest has gradually been shifting to local culture over the past few years, and there is an increasing demand for new products related to the integration of culture and tourism.

Recognizing the changing needs of Chinese tourists, the STB launched new travel initiatives in 2023 to enhance the leisure travel experience as well as new or upgraded attractions. In November 2023, the STB also launched a series of creative travel schemes, including immersive experiences with forest bathing and naturopathy, and city walks to experience food sustainability. These new initiatives allow visitors to experience the multi-racial and multicultural atmosphere of Singapore.

In response to the new travel demands and preferences of some tourists, Singapore is attracting overseas tourists to Singapore by hosting high-profile international events, such as music festivals and sporting events. Taylor Swift's concerts held in Singapore also effectively boosted the local economy recently.

Moreover, Singapore is in a good state of law and order. Singapore's renowned legal system protects the legitimate rights and interests of tourists and punishes acts that infringe on their rights and interests, which provides Chinese tourists with the guarantee of peace of mind to travel to Singapore.

China can learn from Singapore's experience in developing tourism and attracting foreign tourists. First, China's tourism authorities and enterprises can promote Chinese tourist attractions and cultural and natural scenery by expanding cooperation with local tourism operators and hosting exhibitions and promotional roadshows overseas.

Secondly, according to the travel preferences of foreign tourists and the characteristics of specific tourism groups, different tourism routes and tourism packages should be designed to attract overseas tourists to visit China. Third, more convenient services can be provided for foreign tourists traveling to China, such as the simplified visa application and more payment methods. The recent introduction of immigration facilitation measures by the Chinese authorities willsurely help attract more foreigners to visit China.
