Experience the delicious Lyonnaise Cuisine through a Market Tour & Cooking Class!

The Lyonnaise Cuisine gained recognition from the 19th century when middle-class women – nicknamed “ Lyonnaise Mothers ” – left their homes to work as cooks. La Mère Brasier, La Mère Fillioux, La Mère Blanc… created brand new culinary traditions incorporating their regional roots. In 1935, the famed food critic Curnonsky described the city of Lyon as the World Capital of Gastronomy . Since then, celebrity Chefs such as Paul Bocuse, Christian Tetedoie, Mathieu Vianney, Pierre Orsi and many more contributed to highlight the Lyonnaise cuisine at the international.

Your Cooking Adventure starts on La Croix Rousse open-air market for experiencing the market tour and shopping. It gives the chance to meet and discuss with the merchants and to choose the best products according to the season, the price, the freshness, etc. The Lyonnaise cuisine is very tasty as it owes its virtuosity to the quality of local products such as Bresse Chickens, Beef Charolais, fish from the lakes, fruits and vegetables from the Rhone Valley and the Forez nearby region.

The 3-course menu including an appetizer, a main course and a dessert is created on D-Day when you and the Chef craft the perfect lunch. Back to the cooking school, you will learn knife skills, produce pairings and put these in to practice with a mix of modern and traditional Lyonnaise and French recipes. You will enjoy the fruits of your labor accompanied with mineral water and wine afterwards

Sample menu can include: shallots and fresh herbs seasoned whipped cream, cheese puffs, chicken cooked with mushrooms, vegetables and cream, praline tart. The menu is decided on the market considering your likes, dislikes, food restrictions or allergies. Please mention it on the booking form that we email to you before processing the payment online.

PROGRAM PRICE: $295 per person

AVAILABILITY:  Market Cooking Class program is offered upon request , scheduled Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 9:30am to 3pm. This program is limited to 6 participants and we strongly recommend to book it in advance. Thank you.

The ultimate florence cooking class.

Popular and sought-after in all seasons, year after year, by groups of friends, fun-loving families and foodies, our signature "Wanna Be Italiano" cooking class in Florence is the very best hands-on culinary experience you can get in the city! Dive into the depths of flavor, master the art of preparing a mouth-watering Tuscan meal in the heart of downtown Florence with our experienced, charismatic chef.

First of all set off for Florence's central food market . The "Mercato Centrale" is the city's largest, most lively and colorful grocery market, an enormous bazaar filled with deliciousness! Led by your chef you will browse, learn about the local specialties and the Tuscan food heritage, and liase with the vegetable vendors, butchers and bakers as you pick out the best, tastiest ingredients to prepare your meal. Groceries in hand take a short walk to our cooking class facility, a delightful location which will make you feel at home, and enjoy a tasting of typical delicacies before starting the actual class.

Aprons on, following your chef's skilled instructions and learn how to prepare exquisite traditional dishes: crispy bruschetta, fresh hand-rolled pasta, tasty pasta sauces and dessert, too. Measure, mince, mix and stir (and taste, of course, to get the seasonings right!), and finally sit down with a good glass of Chianti wine and relish the best Tuscan meal ever: the one you made yourself in the heart of historic Florence . At the end of the experience you will receive a Cooking Class Attendance Certificate , as well as a full Recipe Booklet to share the recipes you learned with your friends and family at home.

Venice’s Writers, Poets & Literati Tour

This 3-hour walking tour takes you in the footsteps of poetry. Stroll through Venice with passages from the works of writers who created the poetry of the city: Lord Byron, Marcel Proust, Henry James, Richard Wagner, Thomas Mann, Ernest Hemingway – to name a few. Your walk takes you to the places where the words themselves come to life. More than a walk through the city, Writers, Poets & Literati Tour, brings you into Venice’s past and its literati world, as your guide reads famous passages about monuments and the authors who lived in Venice. Entrance fees not included.

Campo Saint Margherita Guided Walking Tour

Artisan market-outdoor cafés-bookshops.

This walking tour of the Campo Santa Margherita includes all our favorite stops & shops. Start with our award-winning Venetian artist who has captured many schools of art, picturesque watercolors of Venetian palazzos, gondolas and waterways, to his vibrant oils on canvas of life on the Grand Canal, to his hand-crafted masks in gold and crystals. His studio comprises his work and that of other Venetian artists.

Then it’s off to the Campo Santa Margherita, where bookshops, cafés, and pastry shops line the narrow footpath that leads to the Campo. The Dorsoduro quarter is also home to the San Sebastiano and San Trovaso churches. The Campo is a large piazza lined with several cafés whose chairs spill onto the square on a warm sunny day. There is also a tiny morning market, whose owner calls out the best buy of the day. Stop for a time out, sip a steamy cappuccino and write a post card.

Continue on to Signor Maurizo’s . He owns one of the best-stocked organic markets for authentic Venetian food, wine and provisions. Our well-heeled food lover, Maurizio is a connoisseur of quality Venetian rice, polenta, pasta, cheese, wood-oven bread, local wine, and he knows how to cook Venetian food to perfection. His wine corner stocks Venice’s only locally produced wine made on the island Torcello. Bring your shopping list and recipe book, and let Maurizo fill your shopping basket. His knowledge and passion for Venetian food, wine and traditional cooking is insurmountable.

We suggest a lunch on your own at our local trattoria for the best pranzo, or lunch in the Campo. Tickle your taste buds with the Fragolino, the “Forbidden Wine.” The pink sparkling wine pairs well with lunch! Pink fresh shrimp tossed with rucola and black Venetian pasta, a fresh glass of local wine to follow, a semifreddo dessert, the “Grand Canal,” topped with a sun-colored glaze. This is just a sample of the gourmet fare served in the gastronomical food mecca.

Visit Venice’s most treasured mask-maker Stefano. The award-winning Baroque mask maker applauded by the Venetian Academy has the “DOC” stamp. All of his creations are produced in limited edition.

For a sweet ending, dive in and experience a Venetian chocolate tradition! The famous artisan chocolate maker transforms the cocoa bean and modern recipes with a twist. Chocolate works of art are inspired by the magically, mysterious atmosphere of Venice. White, dark, caramel, café, and lemon, -flavors are endless!

Lagoon Tour: Murano & Burano

Meet your guide for a Lagoon Tour with private boat. This 4-hour tour takes you to the into the lagoon of Venice to the Islands of Murano, known for the famous glass-blowing, and Burano, known for the artisan lace, merletto & the local speciality bussolai buranelli , egg yolk- yellow cookies perfect for dipping in Vin Santo, tea or even Prosecco!

Venetian Masks

This incredible experience takes you into the workshop of a renowned Venetian mask-maker for a discussion and historical look at Venetian mask. Learn how the artisan mask is born, the steps needed to create a mask, and the stories and myths behind the masks of Carnevale and Venetian commedie dell’arte .

After your presentation, choose to decorate your own mask. Learn about traditional decoration and characters such as the classic Bauta, a simple full face mask, la Farfalla, the butterfly style mask, la Dama, the woman, Pinocchio, Zanni, servants and Jolly, the joker. Paint and decorate your mask of choice with ribbons, feathers, crystals, beads and more.  Decorate your own mask for including instruction and supplies to create your own mask & bring it home with you. Prices vary based on group size.  Hidden Venice: Dorsoduro District

This itinerary takes you into secret corners of the Dorsoduro district, Venice’s elegant “Rive Gauche”. From the vast Campo Santa Margherita, where students and artists meet at the many open air cafés, walk to San Nicolò dei Mendicoli, once a neighborhood of seafarers and fishermen, still retaining its liveliness. We continue then to the Renaissance church of San Sebastiano – one of the saints invoked to save the sick during the Black Plague – masterly decorated with frescoes and canvases by Paolo Veronese, who lies buried here. Past San Trovaso, one of the last gondola yards, our tour ends at the Zattere, the sunny promenade along the Giudecca Canal, particularly frequented by the Venetians in the warm summer evenings.

Hidden Venice: Melting Pot

Harbor and market, production center of luxury goods and stop in the Grand Tour: for reasons of commerce, education or pleasure, Venice always attracted many foreigners, and managed to live in peace and prosperity with them. This exotic blend of cultures and people created unique artistic results. In a secluded courtyard, a few steps away from St Mark’s, stands the Orthodox church of St. George of the Greeks: Italian in its architectural forms, it enshrines a rich iconic decoration by Cretan artists. A little further is the Brotherhood of the Dalmatian people, whose brave soldiers were loyal to the Republic until the very end. The intense Renaissance atmosphere of Carpaccio’s paintings will transport you back in time. We then reach the Rialto Bridge, where the German community had its social and business center since the Middle Ages. The imposing facade of the German Fontego, former inn as well as trading center, still dominates the area.

Cannareggio & Jewish Venice

Cannaregio, one of the six sestieri, neighborhoods of Venice is even today an area inhabited by Venetians. Past the busy open air market, explore the Jewish Ghetto, and walk down along the luminous canals to the Gothic church of la Madonna dell’Orto that hosts powerful canvases by Tintoretto (along with his tomb). Past this tranquil area, at the extreme northern point of town, enjoy a marvelous, melancholy view over the lagoon, where the cemetery island of San Michele, comes into view.

After your tour, you may choose to continue on and visit three of Venice’s synagogues with a tour departing from the Jewish Museum. Synagogue tour not included; directions provided to continue on your own.

Venetian Museum: Accademia, Ca’ Rezzonico, Guggenheim

Enjoy an in-depth 3-hour guided tour through your choice of Venetian museum. Choose from the famous Galleria dell’Accademia, where the most important collection of Venetian paintings are held, dating from the 14th to 17th century, Ca’ Rezzonico, a museum dedicated to exploring 18th century Venice in this extravagant private residence from that period. Or, choose the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, an American art museum with Venetian charm, the most important museum in Italy for European and American arts of the first half of the 20th century, with works by artists such as Picasso, Braque, De Chirico, Kandinsky and more.

Les Petits Farcis

Cours Saleya market tour, cooking class & lunch

From: 200.00 €

Learn to shop like a true Niçois

Our day begins at 9.30am at the Cours Saleya market, while there is still a fresh morning breeze. The narrow maze of centuries-old streets that is the Vieux Nice opens up onto this splendid space lined with bars, cafés and restaurants on either side and market stalls down the center.

Locals and visitors converge on the terraces at lunch, but early in the day you will join the shoppers strolling through the market and admiring the vivid displays of seasonal produce, spices, candied fruit and flowers.

Though the bigger stalls are the most dazzling thanks to their array of colors, what really interests us is the small producers’ stalls. The fruit and vegetables are not as uniformly shaped and the variety not as great, but every ingredient we’ll find here is firmly rooted in the region and much of it is organic. We will build our meal around the best of the season’s produce, though it will also include fish, poultry or meat. And we won’t forget to pick up cheese and wine to make our meal complete!

Around 11am, we will make our way to the Petits Farcis cooking studio, where everyone will play a role in preparing the meal. Tucked away in rue St-Joseph, one of the most charming streets in the Old Town, this light-bathed studio has a large granite-topped island with built-in gas burners and a separate dining table that seats ten.

No need to worry if you are a beginning cook, the atmosphere is relaxed! At around 1.30pm you will sit down to an authentic Niçois meal and toast your efforts with a glass of rosé (or, if you prefer, an intriguing local red or white wine). By 3pm, you will be free to explore the nearby Castle Hill or see more of Nice and the beautiful surrounding region.

A minimum of two people is required for a cooking class to take place; if the class does not reach the minimum, you will be refunded your deposit. A discount of 10 euros per person is applied to groups of four or more booking together.

If you don’t see your preferred date here, wish to book within 24 hours of the class taking place, or need any assistance with the booking process, please  contact us to book your class. If you receive a “failed payment” message, most likely it is due to security measures by the bank on overseas payments. Please contact your bank before trying again.

Classes may be booked up to nine months ahead.  Read more

Ts sapporo kanae 3450

Host: Kanae

Sapporo, japan, market tour and cooking class in a beautiful residential area of sapporo, host offerings.

  • Transportation
  • Cooking class
  • Market visit

Originally from Kamakura, Kanae and her husband and two daughters have lived in Sapporo for over a decade. Influenced as a child by her mother who was a great cook, Kanae has always loved food and cooking. Having lived in Hokkaido which boasts the best produce in Japan, Kanae appreciates and enjoys cooking with locally-sourced fresh vegetables, fish, meat and seasonings. A US college graduate, Kanae is a fun host who loves to share stories about how locals live and eat. She is eager to accommodate your culinary requests so feel free to let her know if there are specific dishes you are interested in trying when you make a booking request. Kanae is also happy to introduce travelers to regional Hokkaido dishes such as soup curry, chan chan yaki and rice-stffed squid, if you are interested in exploring regional Hokkaido cuisine instead of traditional Japanese home-cooking. If you enjoy hiking, Kanae's home is located right below the popular Moiwa mountain, a great hiking spot where you can also explore the picturesque Fushimi Inari shrine.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (1-7 guests) Kanae will welcome you into her comfortable family home located in one of the most peaceful and luxurious residential areas of Sapporo. Sip on a welcome drink as you immerse yourself in local Hokkaido culture and get to know your host Kanae as she shares stories about herself, her family and living in Hokkaido. You will then join Kanae at her dining table to enjoy an authentic Japanese meal that might include dishes such as teriyaki chicken, kinpira-gobo (sweet and salty cooked burdock root), agedashi tofu (deep fried and seasoned tofu), Japanese pickled vegetables, and miso soup.

Cooking experience: (1-8 guests) Join Kanae in her open kitchen to learn to prepare a traditional homemade Japanese meal. You can expect the cooking portion of your experience to last about 1-1 1/2 hours before you enjoy the meal you helped prepare together.

Market visit: (1-8 guests) Kanae will give you a market tour of the Sapporo Morning Market (closed on Wednesday and Sunday) and Jogai Market adjacent to Sapporo Central Wholesale Market. Explore regional produce at these local markets with Kanae and purchase a few fresh ingredients to use in your cooking class. After the market tour, Kanae will drive you 15 minutes back to her home where you will enjoy your cooking and meal experience together.

Notes: Please note that Kanae's car can fit up to 5 people including the driver (max 4 guests), so if you are a group of 5 or more you will need to use a taxi and have it follow Kanae's car to her home, after meeting her at the station. Please note Kanae can offer vegetarian and vegan dishes, on request, please inform her while booking the experience online.

Languages spoken: English, Japanese

Traveler reviews

market tour with cooking class

Kanae is a delightful and knowledgable host. She is very personable and I enjoyed getting to know her. I will try to copy what we cooked when I return home so I never forget this experience!
Kanae was an excellent guide and teacher. She took us to Sapporo Central Market, a nice alterative to the Nijo Ichiba market. Showed us how to prepare and cook gomae, agedashi tofu, miso soup with mushrooms, and two fish preparations. Had a lot of fun cooking and chatting Kanae.
Had a few hiccups on meeting point at the start, Kanae accomodated this and was a very generous and lovely host. We learnt the basics to Japanese cooking while making a bunch of dishes. AllThe recipes were given to us printed out. Wonderful experience and can’t wait to try traveling spoon in different places
Kanae was a fantastic host. We learned a lot about local Japanese cuisine and had a lot of fun cooking with her. Would definitely recommend it! Kanae, thank you for inviting us into your home and a perfect evening!
Kanae was a terrific host and we felt instantly welcomed into her home. The day started with a fun and informative trip through several local seafood and produce markets to see where all the ingredients came from. After, we traveled to her home and spent the morning leisurely cooking and getting to know one another. The food and conversation was excellent and was definitely the highlight of our trip to Sapporo. We highly recommend and would visit again!
Kanea was a excellent hostess. She took us on a tour of the Nijo Market and then back to home. There she shared recipes and cooked a wonderful lunch of Japanese favorites. While this transpired, we had great conversation about Japanese cultural, her family, and time while a student in the U.S. Awesome experience
Fun and informative. Japanese family home style dinner. She showed us how to make it in a simple way.
Four of us enjoyed this experience. Our host was very attentive and we worked through a whole range of dishes - combined with a beer!
We had a very wonderful market tour and home-cooking/eating experience with Kanae-san. She is a super hospitable hostess, a very engaging conversationalist/guide to modern Japan, and an excellent cook. We had a really great experience with her and encourage others to contact her and enjoy the same wonderful time we had!
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at Kanae's home - she is a great host. Prepared a range of Japanese local dishes for us to prepare and try. Highly recommended.
We booked ourselves onto a market tour cookery and eating class with Kanae not really knowing what to expect. We exchanged a few messages and arranged a place to meet for our market tour before going back to her house to cook and eat food traditional to Japan and Hokkaido! Kanae was lovely, informative and welcoming nd happy to answer our questions on life in Japan, advice or etiquette tips and generally helped us finding our feet in Japan. After the market tour we went back to her home where we slipped on some slippers and went to cook. We cooked a set meal complete with miso soup, rice, sesame slinach, Teriyaki chicken and stuffed Hokkaido squid, which was a real highlight. Thank you Kanae for this brilliant experience and welcoming us and so many into your homes. We learnt lots and look forward to recreating the dishes and fondly remembering our class with you when we return home.
Not a traditional cooking class where everyone is cooking. She explained the foods and what she was doing. We helped make a couple of sauces. It was more like hanging out in a kitchen talking about culture, family, and experiences.
We spent a lovely evening with Kanae cooking close to Mount Moiwa various Japanese dishes: kinpira lotus roots, miso soup, spinach gomaae, wonderful sukiyaki and delicious shiratama dango. We felt very welcome and would love to repeat the experience! 👍
Kanae spoke very good English and customised the cooking class for a newbie like me. Prior to the lesson she emailed me to ask if I have any favourite Japanese dishes that I would like to learn. I helped in cutting, washing, adding the condiments and had a hand at sushi making. We had a good lunch together with two types of sushi, chawan mushi, salad and miso soup. It was an eye opening and unique experience as I experienced the process of Japanese cooking even though I have very minimal culinary skills. There was good conversation as we chatted about life at Hokkaido. Also, meeting Kanae was easy as she met me at a subway station and drove me to her home. Highly recommended for visitors to Hokkaido.
Kanae was a wonderful tour guide, host, cook, and resource for my two teens and me. She was so welcoming and helpful, and my teens loved cooking with her (so much that I was largely relegated to taking photos). She contacted us in advance to ask about food preferences and allergies, and she took our feedback (about what to avoid) and came up with a fabulous meal plan that we can make again at home - and she even managed to select some of my kids' favorite ingredients without our having remembered to mention them. She then drove us to visit the nearby temple before dropping us at the nearby subway station to return to the center of town.
We want to thank Kanae for being an awesome host. She made our local cooking experience in Sapporo enjoyable. All of the dishes we made were very delicious and simple to make! She even provided us with the recipes which we will definitely be using! Kanae was also very personable and easy to talk to. Her English is excellent! She was so nice to take us to Fushimi Inari Shrine after the cooking session then drop us off at a supermarket near the train station so we could buy some of the ingredients that we used for cooking to take back home! Overall, it was a 5-star experience and we would recommend booking a cooking class with Kanae!
Kanae was a great host, and it was a fantastic peek into the normal routine of cooking in a Japanese family. The food was delicious!
Everything from the ease of communicating with Kanae to the delicious meal we made using fresh vegetables and seafood was wonderful!! I loved that Kanae suggested we go to a less touristy and larger market. I appreciated that she showed us how to make foods in a real kitchen with tools we already have!! The food was delicious and the ingredients were simple and fresh.
We enjoyed it very much. Our host went to a lot of trouble to prepare a beautiful and delicious lunch and was very patient with all of our questions. She let the children play outside in the snow after lunch and bought them a lovely decorated lollipop, which they loved. She took us to a nearby shrine which we really appreciated before taking us to the train station. We enjoyed the experience very much.
Kanae is very kind. The food was very delicious and I learned some of Japan and Sapporo from her class. I definately recommend this class for every people traveling Sapporo.
Kanae was a perfect hostess. She speaks English very well and provided door-to-door service by picking us up and returning to our hotel. Her home is very nice and relaxing and roomy enough for the 4 of us to move around while helping to prepare the dishes. The dishes reflected the local culture which is what we wanted to experience. She even took us to the local market after because we wanted to do a little shopping. I highly recommend Kanae if you are looking for a fun and local cooking experience. We asked that she teach us how to prepare dishes that we could prepare once we return and she printed out recipes for each of the dishes for us to take back.
I loved meeting Kanae, getting to see her home and learning how to make genuine Japanese dishes from a "master!" I am so happy that I had this marvelous experience! I also have a new friend in Kanae! She was delightful and is very talented! Top notch cooking lesson! More than five stars! I made her ideal choice dishes at home for my (American) family and they loved them!
