Cuttack was the centre of Odisha for trade and commerce previously. It was the capital of Odisha for about 700 years till 1948 and shifted to Bhubaneswar during the year. But now the high-court, board of revenue, board of secondary education, Ravenshaw University, Scb Medical College, Madhusudan Law College, Barabati stadium, Barabati Fort, Cuttack Chandi, Banki Charchika, Netaji Subas Bose memorial museum, two top judicial and some other executive functionaries are still functioning at Cuttack. It’s one of the largest fresh water lakes in Odisha set amidst the hills of the Eastern Ghats, the lake offers a panoramic setting which is a spread for the senses.

The lake spreads across 382 acres and is horse shoe shaped, hence the name Anuspa. During the rainy season the many hues of the waters of the lake makes for a beautiful sight.

It is best place to visit in rainy season as the waters hues makes the beautiful view. The lotus filled lake is shelters to many native and migratory birds. There are Boating and fishing facilities available at the lake are an added advantage with attraction.

The ruin of an ancient fort on top of the Saranda hill adjacent to the lake adds the attraction of the place. The Baruda ghar (ammunition store), two wells and metal door entrance to the fort along with a few structural remnants are all that remains today.

Winter Is the best time to visit this place between December to February as the boating is happen on winter season only. One can grab fast foods outside and near the location.

There are only few boats are available for water sports. Government should take care and take action to clean and maintain the lake and allow watersport activities like Jetsking, Speed Boat, Banana Ride.

I am sure you must have heard about the city ‘Cuttack’ . But let me tell you what you haven’t heard so far. Cuttack is situated in the delta of River Mahanadi & Kathajodi, famously known as “Silver City” or “The Millenium City” as it is one of the oldest town of India to be precise a 1000 years old.

Not many people knows about Cuttack is famous for its food and festivals. But trust me Cuttack’s famous street food “alloo dum dahi bada” one would die for it. Trust me once you start loving it there is no going back you will even forget the regular dahi bada.

Apart from the food it has various temples, forts and  zoological parks and a national park and wildlife sanctuary in the outskirts.

Cuttack used to be the capital of Odisha till 1948 and even after Bhubaneswar took over as the capital, it continues to be home to some of the best colleges, temples, official buildings and scenic beauty. Many attractive places in Cuttack continue to draw tourists and also Cuttack is famous for silver filigree work, horn work, dhokra casting, patta chitra, wood carving and terracotta. Cuttack Chandi Temple

Situated near the banks of the river Mahanadi, Goddess Chandi is worshipped as the presiding deity and attracts throngs of people during Durga Puja. Referred to as Maa Kataka Chandi, it is one of the famous Shakti Pithas of Cuttack and is visited by thousands of devotees every year.

Dhabaleswar Temple

Mahanadi Barrage

Barabati Fort

Situated about 8 km. from Cuttack town, this fort was built during the Ganga dynasty on the banks of the river Mahanadi. The fort is in a dilapidated state but is rich in history. This fort was surrounded by a 40-foot-wide moat. It is believed that the Muslim ruler Sirajuddaula was once imprisoned in that fort. It was taken over by the British in 1803 and only the ruins stand testimony to the glory of the Ganga dynasty

Lalitgiri Buddhist Complex

Situated 55 kilometres from Cuttack, this Buddhist complex came into being in the 1st century AD. It is home to several stupas and a sandstone hillock. It is believed that earlier it was a Buddhist university called Pushpagiri with students from China, Japan and Indonesia. The excavated sculptures are evidence of the various schools of Buddhist art. In 1985, golden caskets were discovered which contained sacred bone relics of Tathagat. This complex also has a museum with huge figures of Buddha, Bodhisattva, Jambala and others.
