Crystal River Cruises was a division of the old Crystal Cruises (managing 4x newbuild riverboats ) and a separate branch offering fully all-inclusive deals. The product was marked by gourmet dining, expert enrichment, high-class entertainment, top-luxury amenities and impeccable service. In each port along the itinerary were offered culture-themed tours and excursions. In January 2016, Genting bought the remaining 30% stocks of Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven . The deal also included ~50% stake in the shipbuilder's real estate subsidiary company "Investitions und Verwaltungs". The acquisition plans were first announced on September 18, 2015.

The announcement said that Star Cruises together with the German companies Petram Beteiligungs, Ehlerding Beteiligungs, and BLG Logistics Group entered into a stock purchase agreement that allows GHK to acquire a majority stake in Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven GmbH. Before the agreement's announcement, Genting signed a letter of intent with the shipbuilding company for Crystal's new polar-class ships scheduled for deliveries in 2018-Q4 (later pushed back to 2019).

  • To start operations, Crystal River Cruises purchased an existing riverboat that was fully refurbished and renamed "Crystal Mozart" (launched in July 2016). Additionally were ordered 4 new luxury "river yachts" (by Lloyd Werft) to be launched in 2017. Crystal Mozart is currently Europe's largest river ship, except, of course, the old-design Russian ships on Volga River. Mozart has capacity 160 passengers, large accommodations (sized 19-80 m2 / 200-860 ft2), multiple restaurants, an indoor swimming pool.
  • In July 2016, Crystal River launched fleet's first boat Crystal Mozart . The newbuilds debuted in 2017 ( Crystal Bach , Crystal Mahler ) and in 2018 ( Crystal Debussy , Crystal Ravel ).
  • In October 2016, ALMACO Group (specializing in the construction of offshore accommodations, staterooms, newbuilding galleys) won its ever first river cruise ship contract to supply galley/kitchen areas and suites for the 4 new "river yachts". The contract included 220 top-luxury cruise suites, corresponding hallways and corridors, turnkey delivery of the ship's galleys and pantries (equipment and lining). Earlier in 2016, ALMACO refurbished the crew cabins and catering areas of Crystal Mozart.
  • Crystal Bach and Crystal Mahler cruised on Main, Danube and Rhine rivers. Crystal Ravel and Crystal Debussy cruised in France - on Dordogne, Garonne, Gironde and Seine rivers. Crystal Mozart cruised only on Danube due to its size.

Crystal riverboats were Malta- flagged and provided dedicated (per cabin) butler service, Egyptian cotton linens, King-size double beds facing toward French Balcony windows, full-length mirrors, walk-in closets, ETRO robes and slippers, Nespresso machines, wall-mounted TVs.

Onboard dining options included Waterside Restaurant (dining room/open-seating), Vintage Room (wine bar / private dinner/party venue), Palm Court (show lounge), Cove Bar, Bistro (casual cafe). The river yachts have Fitness Center, full-service Spa, indoor infinity pool (resistance swimming pool), top-deck Vista Bar & Grill.

Specialty coffees and teas were served complimentary by the Vienna Austria-based company Julius Meinl.

Crystal YACHT Cruises

In March 2016, Crystal revealed plans to build the world's first purpose-built polar class megayacht - Crystal Endeavor . The brand's first-ever expedition ship was initially planned to enter service in August 2018 but due to shipyard issues, the construction was delayed and the delivery was rescheduled for 2021. The superyacht has max passenger capacity 200 and 100 passenger suites.

The yacht as technology features 8 electric amphibious Zodiacs/RIBs, two 7-person minisubmarines, 2 helicopters, 2 helipads. It also offers complimentary jet skis, sea kayaks, wave runners, paddleboards, fishing facilities, snorkeling, and scuba diving equipment.

The yacht is fitted with offshore dynamic positioning technology and computer-controlled navigation systems allowing it to automatically maintain position using its own propulsion (thrusters and propellers). This allows the vessel to stay above coral reefs without using anchors, which could damage the seabed. The ship is similar to the "discovery yacht'" Scenic Eclipse (2018) built for Scenic Cruises .

Crystal Endeavor yacht cruise ship design

In November 2016, Crystal announced a yacht fleet expansion - from 1 to 3 new vessels, with scheduled deliveries in 2021 (Endeavor), 2021 (TBN1) and 2022 (TBN2). The sisterships were designed to have as "standard" the "megayacht cruising" industry's first mini-subs, helicopters and ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles).

Crystal Endeavor yacht cruise ship design

Crystal's yacht fleet had to operate in polar and coastal regions - European Arctic (during summer), migrating whales route (sailing along the coasts of Europe and the Americas), down to Antarctica (during winter). The bold decision for 3 new polar ships followed a 3-year research that found that nearly 70% of Crystal's customers are highly interested in polar expedition travel.

new DIAMOND-Class ships (2022-2025/canceled)

In January 2018, Crystal Yacht Cruises announced significant changes to the new ship design, downsizing the initial "EXCLUSIVE Class" (Genting Cruise Lines ships) and removing from the original design the top-deck private residences.

The first vessel's delivery was initially scheduled for 2018, then pushed back to 2019, and finally set for 2022.

In 2018, the EXCLUSIVE-Class design was changed to DIAMOND-Class. The vessel's size/volume was reduced (from 100,000 to 67,000 GT-tons) and the max passenger capacity was decreased by 20% (from 1000 to 800).

Staterooms included 48x "Crystal Residences" - ultra-luxury suites sized between 600-4000 ft2 (56-372 m2) each, but these were later removed from the design.

DIAMOND-Class megayachts were also with ice-classed hulls and propulsion based on 4x AzipodXO units (by ABB Marine). The gearless propulsion system comprised 1x electric drive motor (per unit) contained in a submerged pod (outside the hull). AzipodXO units are specifically designed for high ice-class navigation. ABB Azipods reduce the vessel's lifecycle costs and guarantee optimum efficiency operations. Of all 4 units per ship, 2 had power output 22 MV (each), and 2 had 19 MW (each).

The new ships had to be also fitted with the "ABB 800xA DCS" (distributed control) system, EMMA Energy Management System (historical data analysis, with a comparison to current sea conditions) and fleet management suite (fleetwide benchmarking).

Crystal AirCruises

"Crystal AirCruises" was GHK's newest venture of Crystal Cruises. Due to the COVID pandemic, Crystal suspended its ocean fleet's passenger shipping operations by canceling all voyages with pre-scheduled departures in the period March 14, 2020, through July 2021.

  • Crystal River resumed in late August 2021, but season 2022 (planned to start in April) was canceled thru early June due to GHK's bankruptcy.
  • Crystal Yacht restarted on September 15 (Crystal Endeavor/Maiden Voyage).

Bookings (2023-2024 itinerary program) for the ships Serenity and Symphony were opened on February 13th (for past guests), and for the general public on February 22nd (2023). The relaunched company started operations with the maiden voyages of Crystal Serenity (July 31st) and Crystal Symphony (September 1st).

Grand Voyages 2025

In October 2023, Crystal announced five Grand Voyages/world cruise itineraries. Ranging from 40 to 70 nights, the voyages visit exotic destinations, offering multiple overnight port calls, and optional overland experiences in collaboration with A&K/Abercrombie & Kent (Crystal's sister company).

Cruise Passenger

Crystal Cruises returns – and I couldn’t be happier!

Crystal is back – and i for one couldn’t be happier..

Almost a year to the day when the most-awarded luxury cruise line was unceremoniously placed in the hands of administrators and abandoned by Genting Hong Kong, new owners Abercrombie & Kent have announced its two ships, Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony are back – refurbished, restyled and refreshed.

There are larger suites and fewer passengers. New itineraries, including Australia. And, in a move that looks like getting the band back together, many of the staff have been rehired.

It’s a good thing since many of them were the backbone of the line’s fearsome reputation for great service and more than two decades of awards.

Ironically, when I last sailed on the Crystal Symphony in April 2019, she was also newly refurbished. We were on a 114-day world cruise from Cape Town to Fort Lauderdale. I joined her from Fiji to Cook Islands.

Then Symphony looked refreshed after her multi-million-dollar facelift – the main dining room was revamped as the Waterside Restaurant with open seating. There was a new Brazilian Steakhouse called Churrascaria on Deck 11, a new Chinese eatery called Silk, also on the same deck. But best of all, famous and much revered Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa restaurant was renamed Umi Uma with the seven-seater sushi bar as popular as ever.

Throughout the ship, there were contemporary chandeliers and paintings, giving the vessel a sleeker look. T

The line also added 40 new Seabreeze Penthouse suites on Deck 9.

I stayed in one – it had a veranda which was decorated in a soothing palette of beige, white and silver. It was spacious and elegant. The grey and white marble bathroom had double washbasins, a shower room big enough to fit two people, ample supplies of Etro bath products and fluffy Egyptian cotton towels.

A chilled bottle of Charles Heidsieck champagne in a silver ice bucket was waiting to be opened.

“Crystal is reborn”, declared the line’s President Jack Anderson this week – he, incidentally, also served as President when Crystal Cruises dissolved its operations in February last year.

Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony have now been “reimagined and enhancements made to every part of our guess’ journey,” he added.

Looking at photographs of the “revitalised” suites today, the names may have changed, the space may be larger but they looked eerily familiar.

As a plastic surgeon would say: “The bones are there, all you need are some tweaks, tucks, and lifts.”

The old Crystal ships had six restaurants and six bars. The “new” Symphony and Serenity will have nine restaurants and six bars.

The real test will come when Crystal ships set sail again – will it deliver on its renowned personalised service or will the crew push the bar a notch higher?

We certainly hope so.

What you’ll get:

Thanks to new owners abercrombie & kent, crystal cruises is about to become more luxurious than ever before. .

Reduced occupancy and larger staterooms and suites mean you can expect an even more personalised and opulent experience onboard Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony . Crystal Serenity’s capacity will be reduced from 980 to 740 and Crystal Symphony from 848 to 606, making Crystal Cruises return one marked by extra attentive service and more space at sea.

Most of the rooms will be refurnished, with brand-new Italian marble finishings and fine cotton linens awaiting guests.

While some of the 19 square metre classic ocean-view rooms will remain, they’ll still be drenched in some extra luxury with butler service now being extended to all of those onboard. Furthermore, a near 1:1 crew-to-passenger ratio will remain, and if you’ve sailed with Crystal before you won’t be returning to strangers, with the return of many captains already announced and news on the returning of further crew soon to come.

The lower capacity is also allowing a revamp of the ship’s spaces, not only are familiar favourites like Palm Court, Le Bistro, the theatre, show lounge and Connoisseurs Club sticking around, but you can also expect exciting changes such as the return of Crystal Symphony’s nightclub.

The courts will now play host to both paddle tennis and pickleball and both the spa and gym have also been renovated.

You can also expect the off-ship portions of your cruise to be more expertly curated than ever, with Crystal to team up with new owners Abercrombie & Kent and their 60 years of land travel experience to design pre and post-cruise land programs and shore excursions.

Crystal Cruises returns - and I couldn't be happier!

Where will Crystal be sailing?

Crystal serenity .

Crystal Serenity will make its triumphant return to the seas with a July 31 sailing over 12-nights from Marseille to Lisbon, commencing a path that will take it through Northern Europe, Iceland, Canada and the Caribbean. This will position it to kick off a huge 2024 world cruise, which will start either out of Los Angeles, or from Miami with a journey through the Panama Canal included.

Crystal Symphony

Crystal Symphony will get back to sailing on September 1 with a seven-night Athens to Istanbul cruise. After some sailing in the Mediterranean, Symphony will excitingly then reposition and head for Asia, Australia and New Zealand via the Suez Canal.

Symphony  will first touch down on Australian shores after a 15-night Singapore to Perth cruise , departing November 21, 2023 and arriving December 6.  Then there is a host of further local sailings before Symphony moves back to Asia, including a 30-night Sydney to Bali voyage .

Similarly to how Crystal used to operate, there will often be the option to combine cruises, without having to repeat any ports.

Price comparison

The revamped Crystal Cruises prices are coming in fairly standard for a luxury cruise line when compared to similar lines such as Silversea, Seabourn and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

A Crystal Cruises Sydney roundtrip 17-night cruise comes out at $13,600pp and an Auckland to Sydney 15-night cruise starts from $12,600 per person.

Silversea hits similar price points, but slightly more expensive, with a 13-night Auckland to Sydney cruise starting from $13,700pp.

A Seabourn cruise comes out a bit cheaper, with a 15-day Australia exploration beginning from $9179pp, and a 15-day New Zealand and Australia cruise coming out to the exact same price of $9179pp.

If you wanted to sail with Regent, you’d have to fork out a little bit more, a Sydney to Auckland 14-night sailing starts from $17,330pp.

Crystal Cruises has been offering luxury cruise vacations since 1990. This all-inclusive cruise line doesn’t have a large fleet, but what they do have focuses on total luxury and intimate, small ship sailings.

With Crystal Cruises you won’t find mega-ships like Royal Caribbean or discount party ships like Carnival . What you will find are luxury ocean and river ships along with a yacht and an expedition ship.

Let’s explore what makes Crystal Cruises a unique experience.

For any cruise that is 14 days or longer, each guest is allowed 2 complimentary visits to each specialty restaurant before the $30 fee is charged. The Vintage Room wine pairing dining experience is also subject to additional charges.

All beverages are included on your Crystal cruise. Wine, Champagne, premium spirits, and specialty coffees? Yes, they’re all included!

The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Crystal cruise ship

Gene Sloan

You have plenty of options if you're looking to see the world with Crystal .

The much-beloved luxury line, which restarted operations in July after an 18-month shutdown, offers cruises to a wide range of destinations around the globe despite operating just two ships.

The 740-passenger Crystal Serenity and 606-passenger Crystal Symphony are almost always on the move. They operate a diverse array of itineraries on multiple continents including Europe, North America and Asia.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Indeed, one of the ships is scheduled to completely circumnavigate the world in 2024 with visits to six continents.

Among its many offerings, Crystal has a particularly large footprint in Europe, with both vessels spending at least some time each year in the region. More than a third of Crystal's departures are to the Mediterranean, the Baltic and Northern Europe.

But the line also offers many sailings to the Caribbean, New England and Canada, and Alaska.

Crystal ships sail everything from short, seven-night cruises to Alaska to 141-day globe-circling voyages. Unlike mass-market lines, the company generally doesn't offer sailings of six nights or fewer. Between now and early 2025, the line has only a single voyage shorter than seven nights on its schedule — a six-night sailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Los Angeles.

Here are our picks for the five best Crystal cruise destinations.

The Mediterranean

crystal cruises australia

As is often the case with luxury lines, Crystal has a particular focus on sailings in the Mediterranean. A quarter of its departures currently on its schedule are devoted to the region, and both of its vessels are scheduled to spend at least part of the coming two years in Europe.

Most of Crystal's Mediterranean trips range from seven to 14 nights, although it occasionally offers much longer voyages. These itineraries include sailings focused specifically on the Western Mediterranean or Eastern Mediterranean and some that include stops across both.

Typical of the latter is the line's 12-night voyage from Istanbul to Monaco, a one-way trip with multiple stops in Greece and Italy.

The 12-night Istanbul-to-Monaco voyage is part of a longer, 45-night itinerary from Lisbon to Monaco with stops in Spain, Morocco, France, Italy, Greece, Croatia and Turkey.

In the Mediterranean, the line's main hubs are Piraeus, Greece (the port for Athens); Istanbul; Venice, Italy; Barcelona; Monaco; Civitavecchia, Italy (the port for Rome); and La Seyne, France (the port for Toulon).

The Caribbean

crystal cruises australia

Crystal isn't a huge player in Caribbean cruises, but it typically sends one vessel to the region every winter for at least six to eight weeks of sailings that offer a mix of well-known and lesser-known ports.

These Caribbean voyages are considerably different, in many cases, than the typical seven-night Caribbean sailings offered by most mass-market lines.

For starters, they begin and end in a wide range of ports including Miami and Fort Lauderdale in Florida; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Bridgetown, Barbados. They also typically are nine to 13 nights, which is relatively long for Caribbean sailings. In some cases, these itineraries can be combined to create even longer Caribbean itineraries that are 20 nights or longer.

A typical 11-night Caribbean voyage out of Miami offered by Crystal includes calls at Tortola in the British Virgin Islands; St. Martin; St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands; Barbados; St. Lucia; and Nassau in the Bahamas.

Crystal also offers occasional one-way Panama Canal sailings from Florida to the West Coast of the United States. These feature stops in the Caribbean, as well as a full transit of the Panama Canal.

crystal cruises australia

Crystal is one of a handful of luxury cruise lines devoting a ship to the Alaska market for the coming summer of 2024, with its 740-passenger Crystal Serenity heading to the region for an abbreviated season.

During July and August, Crystal Serenity will offer both round-trip sailings to Alaska out of Vancouver, British Columbia, and one-way sailings between Vancouver and Seward, Alaska.

The sailings are seven nights in length, which makes them among the shortest sailings on Crystal's schedule. But the itineraries are a bit different than most seven-night Alaska itineraries offered by the big-ship lines.

Related: Crystal plans rapid expansion with 4 new ships in 2029

Crystal's typical round-trip sailing to Alaska from Vancouver features a day sailing through and experiencing British Columbia's famously scenic Seymour Narrows, which is rarely on Alaska cruise itineraries. Just a few hundred meters wide in places, the 3-mile-long narrows isn't accessible to the big mass-market ships that sail to Alaska but is a site to behold. (I've been lucky enough to sail through it a couple of times, and it's a treat if the weather cooperates.)

The round-trip sailings from Vancouver also include a call at the small Alaska town of Sitka instead of the more touristy Juneau — the latter a mainstay of seven-night Alaska sailings. Stops at Skagway and Ketchikan and a visit to the glacier-carved Endicott Arm fjord round out the trips.

One-way sailings between Vancouver and Seward visit Ketchikan, Sitka, Skagway and Hoonah in Alaska and include scenic cruising to Hubbard Glacier.

Asia, Australia and New Zealand

crystal cruises australia

Crystal usually sends one of its two ships to Asia, Australia and New Zealand every winter for sailings out of such cities as Bangkok, Singapore, Sydney and Auckland.

The line also typically sends a second ship on an around-the-world cruise that includes segments in Asia, Australia and New Zealand, resulting in two of the line's ships sailing in the regions during the winter. (See more on the line's world cruises below.)

The vessels offer a relatively wide mix of itineraries, never staying in the same part of Asia, Australia and New Zealand for too many voyages in a row.

Among the Asia itineraries that Crystal has on its schedule for the next two years is a 12-night voyage between Hong Kong and Singapore with stops in Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines and Brunei. Australia and New Zealand sailings include a 17-night round-trip voyage out of Sydney to New Zealand with stops in Auckland, Tauranga, Picton, Lyttelton and Dunedin in New Zealand, and Burnie and Hobart in the Australian island state of Tasmania.

Related: The best cruise lines for elegance and exclusivity

Longer itineraries that combine visits to Asia, Australia and New Zealand into a single sailing include a 42-night voyage from Mumbai, India, to Auckland. This sailing includes stops in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Australia and New Zealand.

crystal cruises australia

Crystal has long been known for epic around-the-world voyages with stops at dozens of destinations on four, five or even six continents.

These trips can last four months or longer, allowing Americans to travel across the globe without ever getting on an airplane.

Normally, Crystal's around-the-world voyages begin and end in either Florida or California (or both; the line sometimes offers the option of joining its world cruises in either state as the ship makes it way around the world).

Related: 10 epic around-the-world cruises

Crystal plans one such around-the-world trip for 2024 — a 141-day voyage on Crystal Serenity starting Jan. 18, 2024. The ship will depart from Miami and call in 33 countries. Would-be world cruisers also can join the ship in San Diego on Feb. 3, 2024, after it sails to California through the Panama Canal.

After departing San Diego, Crystal Serenity will follow a westward path around the globe, starting with a Pacific crossing to Hawaii and French Polynesia on the way to New Zealand and Australia. From there, the vessel will head to various countries across Asia, including Indonesia and India, before sailing through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean.

In the Mediterranean, the ship will visit multiple ports in Israel, Turkey, Greece, France and Spain before heading to Portugal. An Atlantic crossing to Miami will follow, and West Coast-based passengers can continue on an additional leg through the Panama Canal back to San Diego.

Crystal also recently announced a 123-day world cruise for 2025 that brings stops in 62 ports in 31 countries. Departing from Fort Lauderdale on Jan. 7, 2025, the sailing won't be a complete around-the-world sailing. Instead, It will focus on an extended exploration of South America and Antarctica before the vessel crosses the Atlantic to Africa, India and Europe.

Bottom line

Despite its small size, Crystal offers a diverse array of itineraries in cruise destinations around the world, from North America to Asia. You'll find the most choices among Crystal itineraries in Europe followed by the Caribbean and Alaska. The line is also well-known for epic around-the-world cruises.

A revived luxury cruise line wants you to spend more than 4 months at sea sailing to 27 countries for $84,000

  • Crystal says its around-the-world cruise in 2026 will sail to 72 ports in 27 countries.
  • Luxury travel company Abercrombie and Kent acquired Crystal in 2022 following the latter's tumultuous demise.
  • Crystal's first world cruise following its revival and rebrand departed in February.

Insider Today

Recently relaunched luxury cruise line Crystal wants to woo you back. How does a 135-day around-the-world sailing sound?

In 2026, Crystal says one of its two ships will sail from Los Angeles to Rome on a 4 ½ -month cruise. Along the way, travelers can expect to see 72 ports in 27 countries, from Australia's recognizable Sydney Opera House to Monaco's legendary Grand Prix.

On January 11, 2026, the cruise line says its Crystal Serenity will head west from California to Pacific Islands like Bora Bora.

Then, it's off to New Zealand and Australia before hitting destinations like Hong Kong, Mumbai, and Bali, Indonesia.

Let’s not forget stops in Athens, Greece, and the Mediterranean before an exciting call in Monaco.

From there, about 4 ½ months at sea later, the global journey would finally conclude in Rome on May 26, 2026.

Bookings for a double occupancy cabin will open on March 19 at $84,000 per person.

Throughout the journey, travelers will get to luxuriate in Crystal Serenity's venues, which include a piano bar and cognac and cigar club.

Active guests can spend their afternoons at the putting green or pickleball court.

Travelers seeking a relaxing vacation can instead head to the spa or sip on afternoon tea at the floor-to-ceiling window-lined lounge.

The only thing more dramatic than this global cruise? The journey Crystal took to get here.

crystal cruises australia

It wasn't always smooth sailing for the luxury cruise line. In early 2022, Crystal, then Crystal Cruises, made a big splash — and not the good kind.

At the time, the company — then owned by Genting Hong Kong — was facing bankruptcy, the sudden shutdown of its US operations, and the arrest of two of its cruise ships over millions of dollars in unpaid fuel bills.

A few months later, luxury travel group Abercrombie and Kent acquired the cruise line and its previously arrested ships.

Not the clothing store that smells like cologne (that's Abercombie and Fitch).

These days, Crystal and its ships look a bit different.

Like your best friend post-breakup, Crystal has taken on a new identity: The company dropped "cruises" from its name and spent $150 million refreshing its two ships , the Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony. Both resumed service in 2023.

In February, the company’s first world cruise since its revival departed San Diego on a 125-night sailing.

crystal cruises australia

The Crystal Serenity is now traveling around the globe with almost 200 guests, a company spokesperson told Business Insider. (Baby steps: The ship has a guest capacity of 740, though the company points out that some segments of the around-the-world itinerary have actually been fully booked.)

However, the spokesperson said bookings for its 2025 around-the-world sailing are "even stronger, with a significant portion" of its 2024 world cruise guests having also booked the 2025 itinerary.

Crystal’s upcoming sailings currently start at five nights long.

But like other premium operators, it looks like Crystal will continue leaning into its around-the-world itineraries , as signaled by its recently announced 2026 global sailing.

The Crystal Cruises Experience

Crystal Cruises consistently ranks among the top luxury cruise lines in the world, having won an unprecedented number of major awards. They have been voted World’s Best by the readers of Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveller, more than any other cruise line, hotel or resort.

Crystal Cruises are best for

Discerning adults and families wanting exceptional service, high-level enrichment programs and the opportunity to explore interesting destinations. Most guests are 55+, however Crystal is leading the way in the evolution of multi-generational luxury cruising by offering concessions for children sailing on select cruises, as well as dedicated facilities and programs for ages 3 to 17.

Atmosphere & Experience onboard

Crystal Cruises offers a relaxed but sophisticated ambience. Staterooms are elegant, and the Crystal Penthouses are immaculate, with furnishings that would not be out of place in a top city penthouse – complete with butler service. Crystal’s shore excursions are highly rated. Rather than “one size fits all,” guests may choose from the standard type (similar to what is offered by other lines), small group (more personalised) or private (for groups of 4 or more).

Crystal’s guests tend to be affluent, educated, active, and socially-oriented. They are seasoned travellers and enjoy the finer things in life.

The Crystal Serenity, a 740-passenger cruise ship remodeled in 2023, pictured cruising through New ... [+] York Harbor.

There’s an old joke where a travel consultant asks a customer, “Are you interested in a world cruise?” The customer responds, “No, I’d rather go someplace else.”

But if you’re interested in a five-month luxury journey that will take you to more than 27 countries, the upcoming 2026 World Cruise from Crystal may be for you.

The cruise, that will transport guests from world capitals to tropical paradises, will be open for booking on March 19, 2024. A waitlist is already available.

The Crystal Serenity will be one’s home for 135 days on the World Cruise. The 68,000-ton Serenity is 820 feet long and 105 feet wide with a maximum cruising speed of 22 knots. The ship’s 740 passengers all enjoy ocean view rooms and suites, and the ship has a guest to crew ratio of just 1.33 to 1.

The Serenity was launched in 2003, with Dame Julie Andrews named the ship’s ‘godmother.’ Serenity, which was updated last year, is similar in size and passenger capacity to the Regent Grandeur of the Seas , launched in 2023.

Crystal, formerly Crystal Cruises, was acquired by A&K Travel Group (Abercrombie & Kent) in 2022, after suffering a near-death experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. The deal included the Crystal brand and its two vessels, Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony. Crystal says the ships have been “reimagined” with larger, updated suites with artisanal finishes and new wellness offerings.

The 13-deck Serenity includes such amenities as a cigar bar, a putting green, a pickleball court, a spa and various restaurants, including an ice cream shop and UMI UMA, the only dining experience by Michelin-Star Chef Master Chef Nobuyuki (Nobu) at sea.

The Crystal Serenity will depart on its global journey from Los Angeles on January 11, 2026. The 135-day voyage will include visits to 72 destinations in more than 27 countries, to experience their culture, cuisine and civilization.

As one might imagine, such a titanic cruise bears a similar price. Pricing for the 2026 World Cruise will start at $84,000 per person based on double occupancy. Although the departure date is more than 20 months away, this would undoubtedly be a good time to open a certificate of deposits to guarantee one’s funds for the journey.

The World Cruise 2026 destination highlights of the 2026 include:

· Bora Bora

· New Zealand

· Hong Kong

The cruise kicks off from Los Angeles on Jan. 11, 2026. The Crystal Serenity will traverse the Pacific, visiting the landscapes of the Marquesas Islands, Bora Bora's turquoise lagoons, and the greenery of New Zealand.

From there, the ship and its passengers will visit Australia and the iconic Sydney Opera House and sail on to the bustling city of Hong Kong. The iconic Indian city of Mumbai, the towers of Dubai and the beauty of Bali on are on the Asian itinerary.

The voyage travels on through the Mediterranean, including a visit to Athen and a stop in Monaco, just in time for the Grand Prix. It will conclude in Rome on May 26.

"Celebrating the spirit of discovery and epicurean travel, Crystal presents the 2026 World Cruise, a magnificent journey that embodies intuitive service, cultural immersion and unforgettable memories. Our commitment to providing exceptional experiences is exemplified in every detail of this spectacular itinerary," said Cristina Levis, CEO of A&K Travel Group.

UMI UMA, the only dining experience by Michelin-Star Chef Master Chef Nobuyuki (Nobu) at sea, on ... [+] board the Crystal Serenity.

Guests booking World Cruise 2026 can anticipate tailor-made celebrations and exclusive benefits including:

· Exclusive World Cruise events and themed onboard events

· Business Class Airfare allowance or credit.

· $1,500 ‘As You Wish’ shipboard credit per person.

· Unlimited dining at Osteria d’Ovidio and Umi Uma (reservations required.)

· Private transfers to and from the airport and the hotel will be provided.

· Luggage Valet, including up to two pieces per person, and up to four pieces per guest room/suite, includes shipping from the guests’ home (in the U.S., Canada, Europe and the U.K.) to the ship, and from the ship to the guests’ home.

Unfortunately, the ship’s complimentary laundry does not include dry cleaning.

On the other hand, Crystal's Chairman and Brand Ambassador, Fernando Barroso de Oliveira, will be on board to lend his expertise and guidance.

"Crystal, in collaboration with Abercrombie & Kent, has redefined the essence of an immersive voyage,” said Barroso de Oliveira. “Our meticulously crafted itinerary encompasses all the essential elements – from exceptional service and soul-enriching experiences to visits to unexplored destinations and spectacular events."

6 top luxury alaska cruises for 2024 & beyond.

Book a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to The Great Land on one of these top luxury ships.

Top Luxury Alaska Cruises

Veranda of Aquamarine Suite on Crystal cruise ship.

Cruising to Alaska on a small luxury ship affords a very different experience than sailing through The Great Land on a larger vessel. On a smaller luxury ship, you'll enjoy the expected perks like fewer passengers and more personalized service – but you'll also physically get closer to the boundless wilderness, abundant wildlife, icy blue glaciers and majestic snow-capped mountains that you've waited a lifetime to see.

While the fares to sail on such vessels are quite a bit higher than those of larger cruise providers, the all-inclusive (or mostly all-inclusive) prices typically include all-suite accommodations with balconies, all meals, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, 24-hour room service, Wi-Fi access, gratuities, welcome bottles of sparkling wine, pillow selection, some shore excursions and butler service. Best of all, you won't feel like you're being nickel-and-dimed while on board. As a special touch, the attentive crew members may even learn your name and memorize your preferred pre-dinner cocktail.

Unlike many mainstream lines, most luxury Alaska cruises do not offer pre- and post-cruise tours to extend your adventure. However, you can plan these experiences on your own through third-party providers.

Alaska Tour & Travel has pre-cruise packages that include visits to Denali National Park & Preserve and the small, quirky Alaska towns of Homer and Talkeetna. You can also see a different side of Alaska via a train ride on the Alaska Railroad, take a national parks tour that includes Kenai Fjords National Park or head northbound to Fairbanks , one of the best places in the world to see the northern lights (if you visit during aurora season, from late August to late April). In addition, the company can plan a self-drive tour from Anchorage to Seward, which includes a stay at a wilderness lodge, helicopter flightseeing over Knik Glacier and guided tours in the parks.

The following luxury cruise lines will ensure you make the most of your voyage in Alaska – one of the most magical destinations on Earth.

Find your perfect cruise

Silversea Cruises

Silversea Cruises' small luxury ships are designed for adventurers interested in visiting a mix of Alaska's top ports and more rugged, off-the-beaten-track locales. Extended itineraries offer stops in less-visited destinations like the towns of Haines and Wrangell. On board, guests can expect a personalized experience that includes luxurious ocean-view suites with butler service, multiple gourmet dining options, complimentary alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, and attentive service with one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios in the industry.

Base fares for Silversea's 2024 and 2025 Alaska itineraries start at $3,250 per person. If you upgrade to Silversea 's door-to-door fare (which starts at $5,200 per person), you'll receive private chauffeur service from your home to the airport (and back home upon your return) and round-trip flights, with business class upgrades in some destinations.

Silversea also offers immersive pre- and post-cruise land experiences, departing from Seward, Alaska. Highlights include sightseeing flights over Denali National Park & Preserve or into bear country to see Alaska's magnificent grizzly bears. In Vancouver, travelers can take a flightseeing transfer to Victoria to tour the 55-acre Butchart Gardens or board the Rocky Mountaineer for a two-day train ride through the Canadian Rockies.

Silversea's Alaska itineraries extend from May to September, with voyages ranging between seven and 16 days. The line's newest and largest vessel, the 728-passenger Silver Nova , sails its inaugural Alaska season in 2024 along with two smaller ships, Silver Muse (596 guests) and Silver Shadow (392 guests). There are 35 Alaska voyages available in 2024. In 2025, luxury cruisers can hop aboard one of 45 scheduled voyages on either Silver Nova or the 596-guest Silver Moon .

For a seven-day itinerary, consider a sailing from Seward, Alaska, to Vancouver, British Columbia. This voyage cruises the Hubbard Glacier and the Inside Passage and stops in the Alaska towns of Juneau, Skagway, Sitka and Ketchikan. Complimentary excursions in Ketchikan include a tour of Saxman Native Village; a visit to Bonfire Bay Oyster Farm, featuring a sea-to-table oyster tasting; the Alaskan Cultural, Culinary & Lumberjack show; the Alaskan Lodge Adventure & Seafeast and a day as a fisherman aboard the Aleutian Ballard, as seen on Discovery Channel's "The Deadliest Catch." You can also opt for a Selected Shore Excursion (for an additional cost), such as mountain biking or a private fishing trip.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Regent Seven Seas Cruises' elegant Seven Seas Explorer sails the line's Alaska itineraries in 2024 and 2025. The lavish 746-guest ship was coined "The Most Luxurious Ship Ever Built" when it debuted in 2016; among its impressive features are the 3,875-square-foot Regent Suite and a high-end collection of art displayed throughout the ship, including works by Pablo Picasso.

Alaska voyages with Regent in 2024 and 2025 start at $4,799 per person. Upgraded 2-for-1 all-inclusive fares (starting at $5,499 per person) cover elegant all-balcony suite accommodations; round-trip airfare (business class on international flights); a one-night pre-cruise hotel package; free two- or three-night land programs; free unlimited shore excursions; free unlimited beverages (alcoholic and nonalcoholic); complimentary specialty dining; and prepaid gratuities. You'll also receive complimentary airport transfers, unlimited Wi-Fi access and valet laundry service.

Every suite style includes a private balcony, roomy closets and upscale finishes. Concierge Suites (and above) add cozy in-room amenities like cashmere blankets, perfect to bundle up in while you take in the scenery. Meanwhile, Penthouse Suites (and higher) include a private butler who can book excursions, make dinner and spa reservations, unpack your luggage, arrange for a private cocktail soiree in your suite and indulge any other special requests.

Between May and September 2024, Regent sails 22 Alaska voyages. There are 16 Alaska sailings scheduled for the same period in 2025. Itineraries range from seven to 14 nights. For plenty of scenic cruising days, consider a round-trip itinerary from Vancouver departing May 28, 2025. The cruise includes five relaxing days at sea, where you'll enjoy scenic cruising through the Inside Passage (twice), Hubbard Glacier (twice) and Endicott Arm Fjord. Ports of call in Alaska include Wrangell, Juneau , Skagway, Sitka, Seward, Icy Strait (Hoonah) and Ketchikan. You'll also have a full day in Victoria, British Columbia, before returning to Vancouver.

While in Wrangell, consider the Tongass Botanical Forest Walk excursion. Tongass National Forest is the largest national forest in the U.S., with towering old-growth trees and unique flora, fauna and ecosystems. While in the temperate rainforest with your naturalist guide, look for local wildlife like Sitka black-tailed deer, porcupines and birds of prey. Other complimentary excursions at this stop include a round of golf at Muskeg Meadows Golf Course; a canoe trip through Wrangell harbor and nearby islands, and a heritage tour about Tlingit culture and the history of the town.

Nobu restaurant on a Crystal cruise ship.

Recently relaunched Crystal offers just seven voyages in Alaska aboard Crystal Serenity in July and August 2024. The 740-guest luxury vessel was refurbished in 2023 and features the line's signature top-notch service, elegant interiors and suites, and personal butler service in every room category.

Other perks and amenities include plush bathrobes and Sicily's Ortigia bath products; an impressive passenger-to-crew ratio; prepaid gratuities; complimentary beverages; and outstanding cuisine, including Umi Uma (an exclusive Nobu restaurant at sea, available only on Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony ). Guests can also feast on Italian cuisine at Osteria d'Ovidio; book an exclusive dining experience at The Vintage Room; indulge in Parisian cafe-style fare at The Bistro; opt for American cuisine at Waterside Restaurant or take their pick of several other casual indoor and alfresco options.

Cruisers also have their selection of unique shore experiences curated by Crystal's parent company A&K Travel Group, such as a ride on the world's largest zip line in Hoonah (Icy Strait Point); dog sledding and glacier flightseeing in Skagway; fishing and wilderness dining in Ketchikan and the Wildlife Quest and Fin Island Lodge experience in Sitka, boasting a feast of Alaska king crab and wild salmon.

Crystal offers seven- and eight-night round-trip voyages from Vancouver , as well as one-way cruises from Vancouver or Seward, Alaska. Select itineraries – like the July 30, 2024, voyage from Vancouver to Seward – offer a scenic cruising day in the Seymour Narrows in British Columbia. On this sailing, you'll also enjoy a day at sea cruising Hubbard Glacier, as well as stops in Ketchikan, Sitka, Hoonah (Icy Strait), Skagway and Sitka in Alaska. Or, opt for the July 2, 2024, round-trip sailing from Vancouver for three scenic cruising days in the Inside Passage, Endicott Arm and the Seymour Narrows.

The line's Aug. 13, 2024, round-trip sailing from Vancouver features a special guest: Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio, the executive chairman of A&K Travel Group. As such, the cruise will include an exclusive gala dinner and other unique experiences. Other special voyages welcome marine biologist and National Geographic photographer Flip Nicklin, who will share personal stories from his extensive career and expert insights about humpback whale habitats and behaviors.

In 2025, the line offers the same itinerary on 22 dates between May and September, split between Viking Orion and its sister ship, the 930-passenger Viking Sea .

Viking's destination-focused itineraries are curated for travelers who are interested in history, science, culture and cuisine, as they feature onboard enrichment like lectures by Viking's resident historians. You'll also find regionally inspired dishes in The Restaurant and special access to unique tours and excursions ashore.

The line's mostly all-inclusive fares cover accommodations in spacious all-veranda staterooms and suites; beer, wine and soft drinks at lunch and dinner; meals at all the dining venues; one shore excursion in every port; free Wi-Fi access; 24-hour specialty teas, coffees and bottled water; complimentary access to The Nordic Spa & Fitness Center; and other upscale amenities.

Voyages traveling northbound from Vancouver include one day of scenic cruising through the Inside Passage before stopping in Ketchikan, Sitka, Juneau, Skagway and Icy Strait Point in Alaska. The eighth day of the cruise sails through picturesque Yakutat Bay, which includes the Hubbard Glacier. The ship then calls on Valdez, Alaska, before the trip ends with two days in Seward.

While in Valdez, take an optional tour to explore the incredible scenery surrounding the small fishing town. Viking offers a kayaking trip to see the Valdez Glacier; a scenic cruise through picturesque Prince William Sound to view the Columbia Glacier; a wildlife cruise where you can look for humpback whales, orcas, porpoises, sea otters and bald eagles; a helicopter ride over the area's rugged, icy wilderness; or a UTV adventure through the Chugach Mountains to Mineral Creek Canyon.

Seabourn Cruise Line

Between May and August 2024, Seabourn Cruise Line will host 20 Alaska voyages aboard the Seabourn Odyssey , before the ship leaves the cruise line in the fall. In 2025, the line offers 27 Alaska sailings on Seabourn Quest. Both yacht-inspired ships accommodate up to 458 guests and feature Seabourn's signature all-inclusive amenities, including luxurious oceanfront suites with verandas; personalized service; complimentary fine wines and premium spirits; complimentary dining; and caviar served throughout the sailing. You'll also have a complimentary W-Fi package and an in-suite minibar stocked with your favorite beverages. Ashore, sign up for exclusive programs like shopping for fresh salmon, halibut and Alaska king crab alongside a Seabourn chef.

Guests booking Seabourn Quest for 2025 will be able to sample the line's new dining concept, Solis. Inspired by destinations in the Mediterranean, the menu features a fresh, modern take on traditional dishes and whimsical cocktails. The restaurant is a collaboration with master chef and culinary partner Anton Egger and senior corporate chef Franck Salein. In addition to dishes like salt-encrusted whole branzino and Tuscan-style steak, guests will also find a wide selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes.

The seven-day Alaska Fjords & Canadian Inside Passage itinerary on May 31, 2024, aboard Seabourn Odyssey, sails from Juneau to Vancouver and includes a day in either Tracy Arm or Endicott Arm, depending on the ice conditions. From there, you can take one of the optional guided excursions: Ventures by Seabourn. These tours are an additional cost but offer opportunities for up-close Zodiac, kayaking or catamaran experiences in the wilderness to see glaciers calving and view local wildlife, such as black bears, mountain goats, seals, wolves and seabirds.

You'll also enjoy many days of scenic cruising on this voyage, and have the opportunity for more optional adventures in Rudyerd Bay (Misty Fjords). The ship makes additional stops in Wrangell, Alaska, and Prince Rupert, British Columbia, before disembarking in Vancouver.

If you want to see stunning Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve, then consider booking the seven-day Alaska Inside Passage & Glacier Bay sailing on May 10, 2024, from Vancouver to Juneau. This itinerary also includes the Seymour Narrows and Snow Pass, cruising Queen Island Sound and the Lynn Canal. There's a stop for Ventures by Seabourn activities like kayaking and Zodiac rides in the Inian Islands. The Alaska ports of call on this voyage are Ketchikan, Sitka, Icy Strait Point and Haines. You'll disembark in Juneau.

French luxury expedition line PONANT offers 10 Alaska cruises in 2024; itineraries span between seven and 11 nights. Aboard the 264-guest yacht-style Le Soléal, you'll meet up to 10 naturalist experts and guides specializing in geology, history, ornithology or marine or land mammals. Guests can attend onboard lectures and embark on Zodiac landings with the guides.

The ship features elegant staterooms and suites, a library, a spa, a hair salon and a gym. Guests will be treated to movies in the theater, wine tastings and cooking demonstrations throughout the expedition. All fine dining meals, 24-hour room service, an open bar (including an in-room minibar) and complimentary and unlimited Wi-Fi access are covered in the pricing.

Two of PONTANT's eight-night voyages from Vancouver to Sitka are in partnership with Smithsonian Journeys and are curated for English-speaking travelers. Fares for these expeditions include transfers to and from the ship and a shore excursion in each port. On board, you can attend talks and discussions hosted by two Smithsonian Journeys experts: geologist Scott Burns and natural history filmmaker John Grabowska.

On these voyages, there is a sea day after departing Vancouver. You'll cruise through the Johnstone Strait, where you'll have an excellent chance of seeing humpback whales and orcas. After a day spent in the Inside Passage, the ship will call on the village of Metlakatla, Alaska, on the western coast of Annette Island, which is home to the Tsimshians from British Columbia. Other unique Alaska ports of call in this itinerary include the commercial fishing town of Petersburg, the Tlingit village of Kake and the small fishing community of Alfin Cove.
