This small-group specialist runs tours to all continents..

The Scoop: What to Know About Trafalgar Tours

  • Looking at an Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) tour, but want to know more about this small-group tour company?
  • Here’s everything you need to know about the tour company, all updated for 2024.

Overseas Adventure Travel —more commonly referred to as OAT (saying the letters as opposed to naming the grain)—is a small-group tour specialist with tours on all continents. As its name suggests, tours with Overseas Adventure Travel tend to be fairly active, so participants should be comfortable with six to eight hours of activity each day, including walking distances ranging from three to six miles.

OAT has a great reputation for its solo guest focus (more on that below), and offers a generous number of no-additional-cost single spots on its tours. It also has women-exclusive departures on many itineraries.

BEST OF THE BEST: Best Tour Companies for Guided Tours

On OAT tours, accommodations tend to be less about amenities and more about authenticity. Another thing to note is that airfare is often bundled into the up-front price of the tour (unless you specify that you want to book your own travel). OAT is one of the family of Grand Circle Corp. companies, also including Grand Circle Travel and Grand Circle Cruise Line.

TourScoop Takeaways

  • Countries: OAT has tours on every continent
  • Tour Size Average: OAT specializes in small-group trips of no more than 16 people. Its small-ship tours are aboard 50- to 98-passenger ships max out at 25 travelers.
  • Tour Type: Coach, van, small ship, rail, and air

Credibility Check

Overseas Adventure Travel is BBB accredited with a rating of A+. It’s an active member of the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA). The OAT website posts verified guest reviews on each tour page (sometimes with hundreds of reviews) so it’s easy to see what past travelers think of each tour.

Tour Destinations

view of a small town and large bluffs near the ocean viewed on an O.A.T. (Overseas Adventure Tours) itinerary in Iceland

For 2024, OAT has 80 itineraries that include tours on every continent. Some of the most popular tours are to destinations in Italy, Egypt, and multi-country tours in Africa and around the Adriatic.

Overseas Adventure Travel gives all its tours an Activity Level Rating that ranks tours from one (easy) to five (strenuous) to help travelers find the right fit. It has both women-only departures and many no-additional-cost single traveler spots on tours.

There are multi-country and single country tours. On many tours, OAT creates spaces for discussion and learning with its Controversial Topics program that covers topics such as Scottish independence on its Scotland Revealed itinerary and female genital mutilation on its Safari Serengeti: Tanzania Lodge & Tented Safari tour.

Tour Guides

OAT’s tour guides are called Trip Experience Leaders. All are fluent in English and have a range of skills, certifications, and experience specific to the tour destination and experience. Trip Experience Leaders focus on both the logistical and the experiential, and help connect travelers with destinations by sharing firsthand insight that brings a destination to life.

Inclusions/Extras

Inclusions are tour-specific (there’s a “What’s Included” section on each tour’s page), but generally include round-trip flights, many (but not all) meals, transportation, accommodations, activities, and gratuities for local guides, porters, etc. As with most tour companies, gratuities for trip experience leaders is separate.

Typical Travelers

O.A.T. tour guest participating in a ceremony at a Maasai village in Kenya on an Overseas Adventure Tour

OAT’s guests are mostly American travelers aged 50 and older. In the last few years, Overseas Adventure Travel has seen a major jump in the number of solo travelers—more than half of all OAT guests are now solo travelers, and 80% of these solo travelers are women.

WALK THE WORLD: Best Walking, and Trekking, and Hiking Tours

OAT does right by its strong solo traveler base —in 2024, the company is offering 25,620 single spaces—91% of which are free (the remaining 9% of single spots have what OAT says is the lowest single supplement in the industry). And a number of itineraries also have women-exclusive departures.

Communication

After booking, travelers have access to all trip details through the “My Planner” section on the website. The section includes details like flight information, destination weather, and itinerary information.

Then, two weeks before departure, travelers receive all their final documents, and are also contacted by their Trip Experience Leader. Any additional questions can be directed to OAT’s customer service email or phone number.

Loyalty Program

OAT’s loyalty program is the Sir Edmund Hillary Club . Membership benefits kick in when travelers reserve their third trip, and increase after traveling with OAT five and ten times. Benefits include credits to use on future trips, travel credits, exclusive gifts, and priority luggage service.

Private Options

OAT offers Personalized Private Adventures for groups of five to 10 people. These private departures are available using existing itineraries, and include a dedicated Trip Experience Leader. The private group premium amount depends on the number of travelers in a group. Some of the most popular private tours include Ultimate Africa , Sicily’s Ancient Landscapes , and Japan’s Cultural Treasures .

Sustainability Efforts

OAT is part of Grand Circle, and participates in the Grand Circle Foundation , which supports projects around the world focused on water and sanitation, education, community development, renewable energy, the protection of indigenous cultures, conservation, historic preservation, and disaster relief.

CULINARY ADVENTURES: Best Tour Companies for Culinary Tours

Health and Safety Practices

On OAT tours that include time onboard a ship, additional precautions include crew trained on best health and hygiene practices to prevent onboard spread of illnesses, nightly electrostatic disinfection of public areas, and disinfection of high-efficiency air filtration systems before each sailing. The OAT website is the place to go to read more about the current health and safety practices for land and ship tours.

Family Companies

The Grand Circle family of companies includes Overseas Adventure Travel , Grand Circle Cruise Line , and Grand Circle Travel .

Has anyone used either of these companies and, if so, I would appreciate your comments regarding the quality of the tour, hotels, meals etc.

Thanks. Bob

' class=

any American Tour operator is using the Cuban tourism company to arrange hotels, guides and buses. The itinerary may vary slightly between two tour operators but the sites and types of visits arranged by the Cuban company is where your going to stay. If you want to post a link to both itineraries people could get a sense of which may be preferred. I'd assume both have groups of about 24?

Without knowing the itinerary comparisons will be useless. Both companies use the same criteria to satisfy their OFAC license.

What to Expect

Itinerary & Map

Itinerary at a glance.

We pride ourselves in running a relaxed and flexible schedule. Every Cuba adventure is different depending upon the group, other trips in the area, and sometimes the weather. The following is a sample of what your trip might be like:

¡Bienvenidos a Cuba!

We meet at the Jose Marti International Airport where our lead guide will gather the group before a thirty-minute drive into Cuba’s largest city—Havana (spelled Habana in Spanish). As we drive to the city, our local guide will share history and insights about the area.

We’ll head to Old Havana where you’ll stroll along the famous Paseo del Prado, the main boulevard connecting the sea to the heart of Old Havana in Central Park. This tree-lined promenade is filled with historical relevance, as it was designed in the 18th century and was the first paved road in Havana. The buildings and homes seen here are architectural marvels, and the wide boulevard has become an impromptu market with local artists displaying their works. Here we will stop and talk with local vendors and private business owners to learn more about their lives and lend support to the local economy.

After we check in to our casa particular (privately owned bed & breakfast), we’ll gather for a welcome dinner at a paladar (privately owned restaurant). (L, D)

Havana Vieja (Old Havana)

We begin the day with a visit to the Antonio Núñez Jiménez Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Cuba. Here you’ll have a chance to speak with a representative from this organization regarding their research programs and conservation efforts taking place in Cuba.

Following this hour-long visit, we explore Habana Vieja (Old Havana) and wander the narrow streets, bustling neighborhoods, and local markets where the colonial past is still very much alive. Our exploration includes Old Havana’s four main squares: Plaza de la Catedral, Plaza de San Francisco, Plaza de Armas, and Plaza Vieja. On our tour, we may have the chance to stop by one of the thriving private enterprises in Havana and talk with some of the staff about their struggles and successes with operating a business in Cuba.

We enjoy lunch at a nearby paladar, one of the new waves of privately-owned restaurants in Havana that have drastically changed the dining experience in Cuba. Paladars are becoming known for their excellent service and increasingly upscale take on Cuban home cooking – a real treat! In the afternoon you’ll be able to further explore Old Havana or the Vedado neighborhood on foot, or visit one of the many museums on your own.

We’ll end the day with a sunset dinner in the enchantingly creative home of artist Jose Fuster in Jaimanitas, located on the outskirts of the city. Afterward, you’ll have a chance to check out some live music at one of the many hot spots making up Havana’s unique nightlife. (B, L, D)

Havana and the Viñales Valley

This morning we’ll take a scenic drive two-and-a-half hours westward to reach the Viñales Valley to visit with a local farmer and learn about coffee cultivation. We’ll learn about the process from the plant to the roasted bean and perhaps have a chance to taste his freshly brewed coffee.

We will hike the paths in the valley of Viñales National Park with our local, expert guide. Here we get a chance to see the countryside of Cuba and how traditional ways of farming and living have been maintained throughout the years.

Lunch today will be a farm-to-table meal prepared at an organic farm with fresh local ingredients and beautiful views.

We then return to Havana early evening, in time to enjoy dinner on your own at one of the many paladars in Havana. Your guide will be able to assist you with making a reservation or recommendation. (B, L)

Havana by Bike and Playa Larga

Today, we’ll hop on electric cruiser bikes and embark on a tour of the city, stopping at various must-see spots and some lesser-known hidden gems. Our bike tour will be led by another local guide and will take us to some of the more off-the-beaten-path locations in Havana, including various embassies and former mansions that are homes of ambassadors or ministries. During the tour, we’ll stop at one of Havana’s various community projects, where you’ll have the opportunity to provide a donation if you choose. We end our bike tour with lunch and then leave for our next destination, Playa Larga.

During the 2 ½-hour drive to the south coast, you’ll have the opportunity to talk more in-depth with your guide about issues relating to Cuban society, history, and culture. Or you can simply enjoy the scenery.

At Playa Larga, we’ll check in to our casa particular before heading out to explore this seaside town on the Bahía de Cochinos (Bay of Pigs). Playa Larga first went down in U.S. history as one of the invasion sites during the Bay of Pigs, but now it has a more pleasant reputation as a diver’s utopia. Coral reefs, flooded caves, and colorful marine life give the bay a peaceful Caribbean ambiance. If time allows, we’ll explore and play in the water before we gather for a delicious dinner featuring more Cuban cuisine. (B, L, D)

Cienfuegos and Trinidad

After a hearty breakfast and strong Cuban coffee, we head to Cueva de los Peces for snorkeling. You’ll have a chance to swim in the crystal-clear water and see the mushrooming coral reef up close while swimming among tropical fishes. (This activity is subject to weather and sea conditions.) We’ll also have the opportunity to swim in a cenote.

Later, we’ll continue our journey east to the beautiful town of Cienfuegos and enjoy lunch at a paladar overlooking the water. This winsome, seafront city has such an ethereal allure that it’s known as the “Pearl of the South.” After lunch, we set out to explore the town with its charming waterfront and colonnaded streets. We eventually make our way to Teatro Tomás Terry, a 19th-century theater well-known for its grand mosaics and whimsical frescoes. Along the way, we visit various local craftspeople and artisans to talk one-on-one with them and learn more about what they do.

This afternoon we continue on to Trinidad, a charming colonial town just an hour away. We take a walking tour of this intriguing town before checking in to our casa particular for the evening and enjoy dinner at one of the many private restaurants. (B, L, D)

Trinidad and Topes de Collantes National Reserve

Our Cuban adventure continues to Topes de Collantes National Reserve, high in the Escambray Mountains. At over 1,000 feet above sea level, this reserve is a hiker’s paradise offering various trails to explore and gorgeous viewpoints. You may be lucky enough to see endemic birds and animals along the trail, such as the trogon.

We hike with an expert on local flora & fauna and, depending on our choice of trail, may encounter a refreshing waterfall – perfect for a swim. Once we’ve worked up an appetite, we’ll enjoy a traditional lunch of roasted pork, potatoes, beans, and rice in the countryside.

If time allows this afternoon we’ll enjoy a sunset walking tour of Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tonight you’re free to dine on your own at the paladar of your choice. As night settles in, you can explore the music house which has live music along the steps of the main plaza. (B, L)

Cojimar, Havana and Classic Cars

After breakfast, we say adios to Trinidad and begin our journey back to Havana, about a 4-hour drive. On the way, we’ll stop at Cojimar, a picturesque fishing village that was Hemingway’s inspiration for The Old Man and the Sea. Here we’ll enjoy lunch at a private paladar where their specialty is ajiaco, a rich stew with pork, corn, and other delicious ingredients.

Back in Havana, we’ll visit a classic car repair shop and talk with the repairmen about their processes for fixing old cars and the difficulty of getting parts. Afterward, we can enjoy a ride through the streets of Havana in their restored classic American cars.

This evening we share our favorite stories during a farewell dinner as a group. After dinner, you’ll have the opportunity to visit Havana’s Fabrica de Arte, an old peanut oil factory that has become an art and music collaborative, one of Havana’s most popular spots for Cuban youth and tourists alike. (B, L, D)

Adios Havana!

We awake for our last group breakfast before heading to the airport for departing flights. We offer two scheduled airport transfers, one in the morning and one in the early afternoon, both timed to accommodate various flight times. Exchange any extra currency you have left over before catching your return flight home! (B)

oat cuba tours

Travel in Cuba is relatively new for U.S. citizens and unlike that in most other countries. This is an exciting time to travel as legislation changes along with local amenities. Our Support for the Cuban People itinerary is fully legal for U.S. travelers. You will have a lead guide who is Cuban and a U.S. guide who will be with our group while in Havana. We have selected an ambitious itinerary to see many of Cuba’s natural places and also interact with Cubans on a daily basis to learn about their lives and many of their entrepreneurial activities.

With the demand currently being put on the tourism infrastructure, we may have the need to make minor modifications to the itinerary on occasion. Travel to Cuba can have unexpected changes, but we try to remain as close as possible to the original itinerary. Guests should be open-minded, as services we have come to expect as standard may be lacking or non-existent. In exchange, we’ll experience a place unlike any other—Cuba’s diversity, energy, innovation, warmth, music, culture, and art will envelop us.

oat cuba tours

Our accommodations throughout Cuba will be in casas particulares. A casa particular is a privately owned bed & breakfast run by a Cuban family. Guests will have separate rooms with private bathrooms (single or double occupancy). In some instances, the group may be split between separate casas, in which case they will be a safe walk of only one to two blocks apart. These accommodations are often better maintained than the government-owned hotels. While the outside of some buildings in Cuba may appear outdated or worn, the facilities inside will be clean and comfortable. All accommodations are air-conditioned and provide a safe for securing valuables.

Cuban cuisine is the result of a mixture of Spanish, Taino, African, and Caribbean influences. The national dish is ajiaco, a stew of assorted root vegetables cooked with pork, poultry, or beef. Other typical dishes include lechón asado (roast pork), fried green plantains (tachinos, chatinos, or tostones), congrí (rice with red or black beans), ropa vieja (shredded beef simmered in a sauce of tomatoes and bell peppers) and roast chicken. Fish and shrimp are also often available. Many meals are served family-style and, due to limited resources, may lack the spices and flavored sauces travelers expect in other international destinations.

We need to know as soon as possible about any dietary restrictions we must consider in planning your trip. If you have food allergies or necessary restrictions, we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Our trips take place during North American winter and spring, avoiding the uncomfortable heat and humidity of summer. During these months there are influences of cold air masses coming from the north, but they are typically of short duration. In winter, the average daily temperature is around 70°F but may drop to the low 60’s°F during colder days. Annual rainfall averages about 52 inches; more than 60% of that rain falls during the wet season, which extends from May to October. That said, you’ll want to be prepared for rain anytime during your visit.

The north coast, home to Havana, tends to be a little cooler, while the southern coast is warmer. With little precipitation and many hours of sunshine, Cuba is a pleasant country to visit.

Average Air & Water Temperatures

Before booking your trip with OARS, there are a few important considerations we’d like you to know about.

Cuba, a captivating island with idyllic white sand beaches, fertile farmlands, fascinating recent history, vivacious people and rugged mountain peaks, is an adventure holiday paradise. Cuba’s diverse land captures the imagination of everyone who lays eyes on it, from the limestone mogotes that grace the Viñales Valley in the west to Pico Turquino, towering at 1,975m on the eastern tip.

Havana, a city suspended in time, casts a spell with its vibrant Caribbean nightlife, unique scene of vintage American cars that have aged gracefully over four decades and its Spanish colonial architecture. Venture through lush forest trails on exhilarating treks, relish in shared family experiences like woodland strolls or cycle through scenic backroads and finish the day listening to the soul-stirring rhythms of Cuban music with a glass of Cuban rum.

Travel Protection Plan

Effective for plans purchased as of July 1, 2021:

Tauck's Guest Protection

Tauck's Guest Protection provides you with cancellation protection before your journey begins as well as insurance benefits while you are traveling. Guest Protection includes the following:

Cancellation Waiver – Provided by Tauck:

Under Tauck's Cancellation Fee Waiver you can cancel your tour for ANY REASON up to the day before departure and receive a money-back refund (except in Extreme Circumstances*) on the land tour cost, based on your original method of payment.

*Extreme Circumstances:  In the event of an act of God, war (whether declared or undeclared), terrorism, accident, natural disaster, outbreak of disease, or other event or circumstance beyond our control that contributes to or results in cancellation rates above our historical cancellation rates in the absence of such event or occurrence, Tauck reserves the right to issue a credit to you in lieu of a money-back refund, applicable to a future Tauck journey.

Travel Insurance Benefits – Underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company.

  • Trip Cancellation –  If you must cancel your tour due to a covered reason, the plan provides coverage for the amount you paid for your travel arrangements. Since the non-insurance cancellation waiver takes care of the land package cancellation fees already, this benefit reimburses the airfare cancellation charges up to the value of your original airfare purchase.
  • Trip Interruption –  If you have to interrupt your tour for covered reasons, the plan provides reimbursement to catch up to your tour or return home.
  • Travel Delay –  Provides reimbursement for missed, prepaid travel arrangements if you are delayed by a common carrier, natural disaster, unannounced strike, or other reasons as cited in the plan.
  • Medical Expense –  Reimburses covered medical expenses incurred in the event you become injured or sick during your trip.
  • Baggage / Personal Effects Protection –  Provides reimbursement in the event your luggage or personal effects are, lost, stolen, damaged or delayed during your trip.
  • Worldwide Emergency Assistance Services –  Provided by Carefree Travel Assistance; 24-hour emergency telephone assistance hotline for medical and travel related problems.

The cost of Tauck's Guest Protection is: $499  per person

This protection provides insurance coverage that applies only during the covered trip. You may have coverage from other sources that provides you with similar benefits but may be subject to different restrictions depending upon your other coverages. You may wish to compare the terms of this policy with your existing life, health, home and automobile policies. If you have any questions about your current coverage, call your insurer, insurance agent or broker.

This optional Guest Protection must be requested at time of booking and fee must be included with initial payment. Fees are based on costs as of July 1, 2021, and are subject to change. Details will be provided with written confirmation of your tour reservation. Guest Protection does not protect travel agent commissions. Reimbursements will be made according to original method of payment. The amount of any refund shall be reduced by any recoveries obtained by you from any third parties.

The Guest Protection plan waives cancellation fees outlined below, provided we are notified of cancellation before your tour departs. Tour cancellation fees are waived regardless of reason, without written notice, and Tauck will refund land tour cost.

To obtain your state-specific Certificate of Insurance that contains the complete terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the certificate, visit  affinitytravelcert.com/docs/TACGPPINTL .

If You Have To Cancel

If you cancel within 10 days of initial deposit Within the first 10 days after you place your initial deposit, you may cancel your reservation for any reason with no cancellation fees. If you cancel more than 10 days after initial deposit Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed bookings. These fees vary from tour to tour. Therefore, the following fees apply.

Cancellation Fees with Tauck's Guest Protection Plan:

Loss of Guest Protection fee, per person

Cancellation Fees without Tauck's Guest Protection Plan :

Travel Requirements For This Tour

Travel Documents

If you are a U.S. citizen, you will need a passport valid for six months beyond the completion of your Tauck trip for entry into Cuba. You will also need a visa to enter Cuba, the nature of which is somewhat different than what many other countries require. The Cuban government requires all foreign visitors to have a Cuban visa, sometimes referred to as a "Tourist Card," for which there is no official application process. Cuban immigration officials will collect one half of this two-part card upon your arrival in the country, and the other half upon your departure. Tauck will obtain your Cuban visa, which will be given to you in Miami, along with the documents for your included charter flight from Miami to Havana.

In addition, other special documentation will be needed to complete the requirements for travel to Cuba; more details about this required documentation will be sent to you with your booking confirmation. Please review the details in the Instruction Sheet and  Travel Affidavit . You must retain these documents for a period of at least five years.

Please Note: Because many of you are traveling as a U.S. citizen with Tauck on a People-to-People educational exchange travel itinerary operated under a license granted to Tauck by the United States Department of the Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), you are legally licensed and authorized to travel to Cuba.  Before departing on your trip, we will give you a Letter of Authorization from Tauck stating that you have permission to travel under that license, to keep as part of your travel documents.

If you are a citizen of another country but legally reside in the U.S., you may travel on Tauck's People-to-People trip to Cuba as long as you have a valid passport from your country of citizenship, as well as a residency card or alien card (or "green card") to establish your legal U.S. residency when returning to the U.S. from Cuba upon your arrival in Miami.

If you are a Cuban-born U.S. citizen, your travel document requirements depend on when you originally departed Cuba. If you departed Cuba prior to December 31, 1970, you will require either a PE-11 visa (which can take from six to eight weeks to process, is valid for a one-time entry for 30 days, and expires within 90 days of issue) or a Cuban passport; the choice is yours. If you left Cuba after January 1, 1971, you will require a Cuban passport, which can take from three to four months to obtain. If you will need help in obtaining one of these documents, please let us know at the time of booking.

If you are a citizen of another country and do not legally reside in the U.S., you may travel on Tauck's People-to-People trip to Cuba as long as you have the proper documentation that allows you to enter the U.S. for the start of the trip and return to the U.S. at the end of the trip. A multi-entry U.S. visa is required.

A travel affidavit is also required for all travelers to Cuba, regardless of nationality. Please use this link to apply for your travel affidavit at least 75 days prior to your trip: https://cubatravelservices.com/tauck-travel-affidavit/

Because all guests on this tour (U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens alike) will be arriving into Cuba from the U.S., a Cuban visa is required of all travelers. Tauck will obtain your Cuban visa for you during your tour.

Please note that you will not be traveling to Cuba as a tourist. You will be traveling as part of the People-to-People educational exchange.

We recommend that you make at least two photocopies of all the travel documents that you bring with you. Include copies of the photo page of your passport that contains the date of issuance, the date of expiration and your citizenship. Secure one set of copies in the safe in your room while traveling and leave one set behind with someone at home who will assist you in the event your documents are misplaced, lost or stolen. You must retain these documents for a period of at least five years.

TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN AS A GUARDIAN: If you are traveling as the guardian of a child/children, we strongly suggest that you carry a letter from both parents of the child authorizing emergency treatment in the event of illness or accident. For travel abroad, many foreign countries have specific entry requirements for children under 21 who are traveling internationally without BOTH parents. (These requirements are in response to the increased incidence of children being abducted and taken abroad.) PLEASE NOTE THAT TAUCK IS NOT RESPONSIBLE for the disruption of travel caused by improper documentation for children traveling without both parents.

Health Safety and Mobility

Our People-to-People cultural exchange activities in Cuba include visits to rural areas, agricultural facilities and small villages, as well as to various sections of Havana with centuries-old streets and buildings with limited access. You should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances over unpaved and uneven terrain. Both the Ritz Carlton Coconut Grove and the Meliá Habana are equipped with elevators.  The road conditions in Cuba are improving; however, paved roads, especially in rural areas, are often in poor condition. Some roads to rural locations are not paved and some out-of-the-way destinations are accessible only by these roads; other roads may be unpaved and bumpy. Our People-to-People cultural exchange itinerary includes several early morning starts and leaves little scheduled free time.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ON SUPPLEMENTAL OXYGEN AND MOBILITY ISSUES:  This Tauck itinerary cannot accommodate oxygen tanks, wheelchairs or motorized scooters.  Oxygen tanks are strictly prohibited in many foreign countries on regional flights aboard small aircraft, such as those intra-tour flights featured on this Tauck journey.  Likewise, the very limited cargo capacity on such flights prohibits the transport of wheelchairs or motorized scooters.

Travelers should also bear in mind that the infrastructure in many foreign countries, particularly in developing countries, often presents severe and even insurmountable challenges for those with walking difficulties or other mobility issues.  The responsibility of the Tauck Director is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one traveler.  Travelers requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it. While drinking water is generally safe at the hotels on the journey, bottled water will be available wherever the local water is not fit to drink. We also provide bottled water on your motor coach.

The only hotel on this trip that allows smoking is the Meliá Habana in Havana.

Airline Disinsection

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued a guidance letter that requires airlines and travel agents to disclose to consumers countries that require the use of insecticides by airlines. Please click  here for more information.

SPECIAL DIETARY REQUESTS

The restaurants, hotels, caterers and numerous other partners we work with all do their best to accommodate special dietary requests from Tauck guests. However, given the diverse nature of those food providers (from small wineries to grand hotels to world-famous restaurants in more than 70 countries worldwide), some of our partners are better able than others to accommodate such requests. We therefore cannot guarantee that all dietary requests can be accommodated at every meal. Also, please note that where dietary requests can be accommodated, choices will frequently be limited.

Ready for summer? These 10 beaches are the best worldwide, according to Tripadvisor

oat cuba tours

Planning a beach vacation? You’re not alone.

Thirty-four percent of Americans preferred to go on a beach vacation destination according to a 2022 survey from 30a.com , a media channel about beach stories and eco-conscious content.

And Tripadvisor's 2024 Travelers’ Choice Award for Beaches , names and ranks the top 10 best beaches worldwide. These beaches receive a high volume of favorable reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period.

Golden sands, rugged coastlines, clear blue waters—this year’s winning beaches are traveler faves for everything from lazy beach days to underwater adventure, says Tripadvisor.

Here are the top 10 beaches and the reasons why, according to Tripadvisor:

1. Praia da Falésia – Olhos de Agua, Portugal

This beach is known for its dramatic cliffs, golden sands, and sparkling blue waters where visitors can stroll along the scenic footpath on top of the cliffs and check out the incredible views.

A trip to the beach is always a good idea.

Beaches rank as the top preferred vacation destination among 34% of Americans, according to a 30A Company 2022 survey of 1,040 U.S. adults. Even just the act of planning a vacation can make someone happy.

You likely understand why if you’ve ever spent time on a beach. The place where the water meets the land is a treat for the senses, from the sound of the water lapping the sand to the crisp scent of the salt in the air. Beaches are some of the most beautiful places.

Relaxing beachside is beneficial for your well-being , too. Saltwater has been found to release negative ions that help people feel calmer, and the meditative sound of waves can offer a sense of grounding. Even if you’re not frolicking in the water, the beach is where people can easily connect with nature, which is healing.

Luckily, there are beautiful beaches everywhere, from places renowned for postcard-perfect beaches like Turks and Caicos to the rugged cliffside beaches of Italy. Tripadvisor recently released its 2024 Travelers’ Choice Award for Beaches, which analyzed reviews and ratings between Oc. 1, 2022, and Sept. 30, 2023, to come up with the best beaches worldwide.

If you're not into rough waves: This little beach earned the top spot of the calmest beaches in North America

“Who doesn't love a beach? It's certainly my happy place – my kids playing in the surf, the sun sinking behind the horizon. And as the breadth and depth of Tripadvisor's Travelers' Choice Beach lists show, our community is obsessed with them, too,” Sarah Firshein, head of Tripadvisor editorial, told USA TODAY in a statement.

While last year’s best beaches included a wide variety of striking natural landscapes, this year’s awards brought back the picturesque soft sands and crystal-clear waters people imagine when they think of a beach vacation.

Here are the top 10 best beaches around the world, according to Tripadvisor.
