Right in the center of the small village of Khao Sok lies the pleasant Khao Sok Morning Mist Resort. The resort has been booked by many western people in the past and, after reading the many positive reactions on the internet, it aroused our interest. During our last trip to the Khao Sok National Park, we booked a room at the Morning Mist Resort for a few nights. We slept one night before our overnight stay on Lake Cheow Lan Lake and stayed another two nights thereafter. Curious about our experience? Then read on …

Great locality in Khao Sok village

The Morning Mist Resort is located almost in the middle of the village with the entrance to the Khao Sok National Park 500 meters away, ideal if you want to do a trek in the Khao Sok National Park but also nice if you want to stroll thru the village for a bite or just a walk. This without arranging transport or taking a long walk. It is easy to arrange a tour or trek in the village. But it is even easier to let the friendly staff at Khao Sok Morning Mist Resort arrange everything for you. This is easy and done at the Morning Mist reception.

We booked a tubing tour via the resort and everything was well organized, the guides during this tour were very responsible, friendly and funny! At the reception there are folders containing information about all excursions that you can do in the area, such as a (Night) Safari in the Khao Sok National Park or an (overnight) tour to the Cheow Lan Lake. The Morning Mist Resort arranges the trip from A to Z for you.

You can leave your luggage at the reception for 100 baht per item if, for example, you go to Cheow Lan Lake and do not want to take all your luggage with you. Valuables can also be placed in a locker with padlock, which we know is free.

The swimming pool and Misty Restaurant at Morning Mist Resort

How nice is it after a trekking in the jungle or just during a hot day to splash in the pool and chill on a sunbed? At the Khao Sok Morning Mist Resort this is possible! The small but nice swimming pool is surrounded by the tropical garden with beautiful flowers and fruit trees where the restaurant is located near the swimming pool. A cocktail, fresh fruit juice / shake or other cool drink is easily arranged! The swimming pool is 1.50 meters deep and open from 07.00 – 19.30, bath towels are available at the reception.

The Misty Restaurant offers a beautiful view on the surroundings and here you can have breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. A nice and cozy restaurant opposite the Morning Mist reception. You can choose from Western or Thai dishes, there is something for everyone. If you get up early, for example for a lake tour or breakfast, you will understand why the owner of the resort has chosen the name Morning Mist. Certainly from the Misty Restaurant you can see the mist hanging in the distance between and over the limestone rock formations. A nice and extra perk during your overnight stay at the Khao Sok Morning Mist Resort!!

Sleeping in a tropical garden

Thailand is known for its beautiful nature such as pretty flowers and all the fruit that grows in the wild. But we never seen as many fruit and flowers together as in the garden of the Morning Mist Resort in Khao Sok. Fruits that grow here are bananas, papaya, long kong, mango, jackfruit, mangosteen and more! A delicious tropical fruit basket full! There are also all kinds of orchids and many other beautiful flowers, which we do not know by name, to admire here in the tropical garden! In the background of this garden you can see the high limestone cliffs typical for Khao Sok. Every time we were on our way to our bungalow, located in the tropical garden and at the end of the Morning Mist area, we were amazed by the scenery around us!

YUMMY All the goodies such as the fruit and herbs that grow in the tropical garden of the Khao Sok Morning Mist Resort are frequently used in the dishes and shakes of the Misty Restaurant, making everything super fresh!

At the border of the Morning Mist Resort in Khao Sok flows the Sok River where you can relax near the waterfront with a good book. You also can cool off here, especially during the hottest hours of the day. Beware of slippery stones and strong currents that can occur in the rainy season! The swimming pool may be a better option, especially for (small) children. If necessary, get informed at the reception of the resort.

Affordable bungalows

The Morning Mist Resort in Khao Sok has nine different bungalows in different price ranges and types. All bungalows are scattered in the beautiful tropical garden of the resort with some bungalows also adjacent to the Sok River. The cheapest option is the budget double room (from € 12,-) with a fan, hot shower and a small terrace. If you sleep here with two, it costs just as much as a hostel. Very cheap! The standard double rooms start at € 19,- which is a very decent price considering the good location in the village and including a swimming pool.

Khao Sok Morning Mist Resort is a great resort for the family!

Although we do not travel with children ourselves, we think that due to the swimming pool, the location in the village and the affordable prices, the Morning Mist Resort can also be a great place for traveling with children. In addition to triple rooms, there are also rooms with two double beds. Preferring a twin room with extra bed? Morning Mist is very flexible and it is often possible to place an extra bed in the room in consultation and at an additional cost. The price of a triple room starts at € 22,-. Sleeping on the banks of the Sok River

Our two-person bungalow was located directly on banks of the Sok River, which means that the bungalow is nice and quiet and located on the border of the resort’s terrain. That may sound far away but in reality a walk to the reception, swimming pool or restaurant was only a 7-minute walk through the beautiful tropical garden. The room had everything we needed, a spacious shower, fridge, air conditioning, fan and mosquito net. Near our bungalow was a staircase to go into the river so that we could take a good swim. From our terrace with nice lounge chairs and footstool we looked upon the river, a very nice place and perhaps the very best place of the Khao Sok Morning Mist Resort!

What made our stay at Khao Sok Morning Mist Resort complete for us was the extremely friendly staff including the owner and his wife. This host and hostess were almost always present at the reception and in many cases open for a chat about Khao Sok and Thai life. We learned a lot of new Thai words from the other staff and everyone was very helpful. Compliments! Morning Mist you will be missed! We will definitely be back!

How to get to Khao Sok National Park

It takes 1.5 to a 2-hour drive to the entrance pier of Khao Sok national park from both Krabi and the Surat Thani airport.

Great post|! I am heading to Thailand on my own in December and can’t decide between spending an extra couple of days in Chiang Mai area and doing a trek or an overnight stay at Doi Inathanon, or going to Khao Sok for a couple of nights before heading to the Islands. What would you recommend? I just wondered if the logisitics of getting to and from J=Kaho SOk might taake up too much time when I am only in Thailand for 2 weeks?

Hey Sarah! Doi Inthanon will be the easiest as it’s closer to Chiang Mai. But if you’re keen to go to Khao Sok National Park, we’d recommend flying to Surat Thani to save time. However, both national parks are beautiful, so you won’t be disappointed whichever you decide. Have an amazing trip! :)

Wonderful location and grounds. Swimming pool was a bit crowded at times. Restaurant / bar was very pleasant. Staff were very friendly and food was good but not exciting - possibly so as to not offend the tastes of the many nationalities who were there. Prices were all very reasonable. Costs were kept down by not having anything that was not essential in the rooms; no refrigerator, no a/c, no daily cleaning unless requested, etc.

Rooms are set in a lovely garden and the bungalows are spread out between plants and flowers which is very nice and attractive, it feels a long way from the road even though it’s right there! Entrance to the national park is at the end of the road and lots of food/drink on the same street. Nice views from the restaurant area. Our standard room with fan was very nice. We asked for an extra fan which they gave us as we had two single beds and it meant we weren’t hot at night. Mosquito nets and mosquito shutters on the windows. We booked the one day lake tour through the accommodation which was great and we really enjoyed it.

The owner and staff are very friendly. We asked for one night more, which was an easy change in a different room. The breakfast menu is delicious (approx. 150B per dish+ Coffee/Tea/Juice+ Fruits). The bed is comfortable and has a mosquito net. The bathroom is spacious and clean. Nice terass at the front of the room, quiet area and you feeling good being close/ in the nature. Organization of the Transport to Ko Tao was really good- everything worked out well.

Very nice bungalows in the main street in Khao Sok. You could hear the animals all around and there were also monkeys around us! The swimming pool was a nice place to take a dip after a warm day outside. The hotel helped us book our trip for the overnight tour to the lake and stored our bagage while we were gone. Overall great stay!

Fan rooms cheaper and much comfier than air con rooms we have previously stayed in here before! Better value for money! Balcony was much nicer and we loved sitting out to watch the sunset! Small hole in mosquito screen on window, but after telling staff it was fixed quickly and with no complaint which was great. Fab location!

Conviently located in the centre of Khao Sok village, hotel staff is very nice, they will help you to organise and order all your trips and activities. I liked the common areas, like restaurant and pool. The whole place is very clean and well maintained and the kitchen is great.

Wonderful location the gardens , restaurant area and pool was beautiful Lots of wildlife even at the hotel although watch out for the monkeys! Staff were very helpful and immediately helped out when we had a minor problem in our room They also booked us on great experiences Would definitely recommend a stay there 😊

Beautiful bungalows in even more beautiful garden. Feel of the Jungle. Very convenient location. Small but relaxing pool area. Good eating option around. In general, very enjoyable stay. We had room without air conditioning which I didn't notice while making a reservation,:) but it was not too bad, and temperature at night was very pleasant.

Dmitri Aske ‘Through The Mist’ Solo Show in Moscow, Russia

Several works have been made in the form of diptychs where one piece is a figurative picture while the other is an abstraction made from the same set of plywood details. By turning images of people an objects into abstract compositions Aske demonstrates the split-up clip-like way the modern people perceive the world. And tough they can put it together, it still might turn out unfinished. In this series, the Russian artist keeps combining bright colorful images with quite somber messages. However, by trying to attract the viewer’s attention, Dmitri does’t make his artworks just a kind of eye candy. Aske says that all the works are open to any viewers’ interpretations, which sometimes turn out to be more interesting than that of the artist.

Dmitri Aske is a versatile Moscow artist and one of the main figures behind the Russian urban contemporary art movement. He started his career in 2000 from writing graffiti, later moving to graphic design and illustration. In mid-2000s, Dmitri had collaborated with Nike , Reebok , PlayStation , and the like making different art objects and graphics. He also used to be an Edior-in-Chief of one of the first Russian graffiti magazines and a co-founder of a street wear brand. Since 2015, Aske has dedicated himself full-time to art, creating plywood tile relieves, sculptures, and painting murals. In 2016, according to the InArt research, he was named 4th by the sum of auction sales among the young Russian artists. Apart from working in the studio, Dmitri runs an online magazine vltramarine.ru, as well as gives lectures on graffiti and street art.
