What are the Bus Classes & Prices of Apple Travels?

The price of your bus trip will depend both on the destination and the class of your ticket. Note that not all ticket classes are available on certain routes yet for longer trips there is almost always a good choice of options. Opt for a sleeper coach for the most convenient overnight trip. Sleeper buses are usually equipped with berths or soft reclining seats, feature an onboard toilet and your ticket may also include other perks like snacks or even a lunch. Taking a night bus is also a good idea if you want to save on your hotel room. During the day an express service is often the best value for money as it makes less stops than an ordinary or standard class bus and travels faster. On some routes it may be crucial to choose the right class as, say, an ordinary or second class bus may need some 6 hours to cover the distance the first class or express bus travels in two hours!

Pros & Cons of Bus Travel

Pros of bus travel.

Buses usually boast the widest network of destinations covered. They travel to the places you cannot get to by plane or even by train

Travelling by bus is easy – there is no need to arrive to the bus terminal much in advance, and the check-in is usually a very fast formality opposite to air travel

Bus tickets are very affordable. Yes, there are costly first class or VIP options but is you are on a budget, bus is the first means of transportation you have to think about

At the same time, there are different classes of service to suit any budget. If you are after a higher level of comfort, buses get you covered, too.

Cons of Bus Travel

Intercity bus terminals can be located outside the city centre in the outskirts. It means you will need to calculate extra time and money to get there. In certain destinations getting from the bus terminal can cost you more than you would expect because only a limited number of transportation companies is allowed to serve the route – and prices may be inflated.

During busy weekends or high season buses serving some tourist destinations may run out of schedule and require advanced booking.

While buses are not as weather dependent as ferries, bus trips can also be delayed or cancelled due to bad weather or road conditions – keep it in mind if travelling during certain seasons or to certain destinations.

How to set up Apple Pay Express Transit

Apple Pay Express Transit Japan

What is Apple Pay Express Transit?

Where can i use apple pay express transit.

  • Set up Apple Pay Express Transit on iPhone
  • Set up Apple Pay Express Transit on Apple Watch

No one likes waiting in line and there are few lines worse than those that form for public transport at rush hour. As the desire to use contactless payments grows and more transit companies begin to support digital payments, these lines can actually take longer to clear as each person authenticates their payment method on their phone before boarding.

Apple Pay Express Transit was added to iOS in order to combat this and more closely replicate the tapping of a transit card or contactless bank card, removing the delay caused by needing to authenticate a payment.

Express Transit, also known as Express Travel in some regions, is an Apple Pay feature aimed at speeding up contactless payments when boarding public transport. Instead of having to authenticate your payment with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode, Apple Pay Express Transit allows you to simply tap your iPhone or Apple Watch to the compatible NFC reader and go. That makes it one of the best iPhone features for commuters.

In order to use it, you'll need to have either a dedicated transit card or regular payment card set up in Apple Wallet depending on which the transit service requires. We'll show you how to pick your preferred payment method below.

In order for an authentication-free experience to be enabled, transit networks have to opt in to Apple's Express Mode. That means it's not available everywhere by default. Here are all of the current Apple Pay Express Transit locations.

Asia-Pacific

  • Australia: Transit for NSW.
  • China: Anywhere China T-Union, Beijing Transit, and Shanghai Transit cards are accepted.
  • Hong Kong: Anywhere Octopus card is accepted.
  • Japan: Anywhere Suica or PASMO cards are accepted.
  • Singapore: Land Transport Authority.
  • Taiwan: Kaohsiun and Taoyuan Airport MRT.
  • Belarus: Minsk Metro.
  • Finland: Turku Föli.
  • Russia: Multiple cities.
  • Sweden: Skånetrafiken city buses.
  • UK: Transport for London (Underground, Overground, trams, and bus services). Bus services from Arriva, First, Brighton & Hove Buses, Oxford Bus Company, and Metrobus.

North America

  • Canada: Vancouver TransLink.
  • USA: Chicago Ventra card, Los Angeles TAP card, New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Portland Hop Fastpass, San Francisco Bay Area Clipper card, and Washington, D.C. SmarTrip card.

How to set up Apple Pay Express Transit on iPhone

If you regularly use one of the above transit networks and want to be able to tap your iPhone to the payment terminal for quick and easy boarding, set up Apple Pay Express Transit. Here's how.

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay .
  • Tap Express Transit Card or Express Travel Card (depending on your region).
  • Tap the card you wish to set as payment method. You'll then be prompted to authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

That's it. You should now see a blue checkmark beside the card of your choice showing it is now your preferred card.

How to set up Apple Pay Express Transit on Apple Watch

Using your Apple Watch to board public transit can be even more convenient as you don't even need to get your phone out of your pocket. To use Apple Pay Express Transit on Apple Watch, you need to set it up there too. Fortunately, it's pretty easy to do.

  • On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  • Tap the card you wish to set as payment method. You'll then be prompted to confirm by entering your passcode on your Apple Watch.

Don't have your iPhone handy? You can set up Apple Pay Express Transit directly on your Apple Watch by following the below steps.

  • On your Apple Watch, open the Settings app.
  • Tap Express Mode .

Cut down queuing time

Apple Pay Express Transit makes it quicker to get through barriers and turnstiles at public transport stations, reducing lines for everyone. Since it's limited to supported transit networks, there's very little risk with setting it up.

Hopefully, the list of supported locations will continue to increase so more people can benefit from the feature.

Moscow Travel Guide

Do not waste your time with this one. First of all it is grossly overpriced, the Tube map is in Russian, which is good if you are Russian ( though then what is the point in paying for something that is free and available at every tube station). App appears to be poorly coded, it is slower than molasses in Siberia. The "guide" comments are so simple minded and unoriginal as to be nearly worthless. You can get any of the 'insights' for free from virtually any tourist agency. I would give this app a zero but for the fact that it is a good idea.

Some of the designs for the Apple car reportedly looked like Volkswagens

  • Apple reportedly pulled the plug on its decade-long EV project last month.
  • Though we'll never see an Apple Car, we might have some insight into what could've been.
  • Different designs for the car looked like a Volkswagen Microbus or a Canoo Lifestyle Vehicle, Bloomberg reports.

Insider Today

Apple execs reportedly killed the company's decadelong electric vehicle project last month, and while that means we'll never see the Apple Car hit the market, we may still have an idea of what it might have looked like.

Several designs for the car alternately took inspiration from the Volkswagen Microbus of yesteryear and the futuristic Canoo Lifestyle Vehicle, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported Sunday.

Related stories

One look from famous Apple designer Jony Ive , who had creative oversight over the iPhone, iPod, and iPad, showed parallels to a 1950s Volkswagen microbus while another resembled the 2017 Volkswagen ID Buzz prototype, according to Bloomberg.

Around 2020, the design for the car took inspiration from the Canoo Lifestyle Vehicle, per Bloomberg. With this design, the car was fully white on the side, and had a glass sunroof as well as an identical front and rear "so it would always look like you were driving forward," Bloomberg reports.

Near the end of Apple's so-called "Project Titan," the design for the car reportedly took on gull-wing doors like those you'd find on another EV, the Tesla Model X .

Apple had been working toward a self-driving electric vehicle since 2014 but saw its efforts hampered by leadership shake-ups and launch delays , as well as softening demand for EVs, particularly in the US.

BYD , the world's leading EV maker, has said challenges in the US market are keeping the company away.

"We're not planning to come to the US," BYD Americas CEO Stella Li told Yahoo Finance last month. "It's an interesting market, but it's very complicated if you're talking about EVs."

Buses, Streetcars, and Trolleybuses

Moscow's public land transport network covers the entirety of the city: buses and streetcars arrive with the same frequency as metro trains, and many routes connect the city's center and its outskirts. A system of night buses operates daily between 12:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., running from the Kitay-Gorod metro station on thirteen routes to various Moscow districts (as well as to Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo airports). There is also a tourist trolleybus route from Komsomolskaya Square to Novoryazanskaya Street. You can pay for public land transport rides with the Troika card or buy a ticket directly from the driver. For an easier way to plan out your route and find out the timetable, use the Moscow Transport app or mobile maps.

River Transport

The navigation season on the Moskva River begins in mid-April and ends in late fall. Throughout this period, you can see motorships running along the river. Almost any route is suitable for a cruise, with the ships circling around the city center and going to the North River Terminal and the Kolomenskoye Park embankment. It is best to book tours in advance (there are several different companies to choose from). Payment options depend on the type of the tour.

There is only one regular river route in Moscow, and it goes from the North River Terminal to Khimki. The ticket price is 350 rubles, but in the morning and evening hours you can pay with a Troika card at the standard fare.

Commuter Trains

Trains run in eleven directions from nine Moscow railway stations. Most often, commuter trains are used to travel out of town or to dachas, but they also serve to connect certain districts and metro stations, as well as help prevent the metro from overcrowding during rush hours. High-speed trains, also known as Aeroexpress trains, connect Moscow airports with the city center. You can find diagrams of the railway lines on the website of the Central Suburban Passenger Company. Although normal rail tickets can only be purchased at the box office, you can buy Aeroexpress tickets in advance on the website or using the mobile app.

  • The Associated Press

This week’s new streaming entertainment releases include the launch of season 20 of “Grey’s Anatomy” and the streaming premiere of Taylor Swift’s concert film, “The Eras Tour,” on Disney+. A new Apple TV+ limited series called “Manhunt” transforms the assassination of Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth into a political thriller and the dramedy “The Girls on the Bus” starring Melissa Benoist follows female reporters embedded on a presidential campaign.

“The Eras Tour”

Taylor Swift’s concert film “The Eras Tour” is coming to Disney+ on Thursday, a day earlier than originally announced. The streaming cut features five new songs, including “Cardigan.” “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” was a phenomenon at the theatrical box office, grossing over $262 million worldwide in a groundbreaking deal with AMC Theaters, which released the film instead of a traditional Hollywood studio. In her review, AP Music Writer Maria Sherman wrote that the film is, “a near exact replica of her blockbuster concert performance, which recaps all 10 of her studio albums across 17 years of recorded work,” adding “it is the opportunity to have every seat in the house transform into the best seat in the house.” DETAILS

“Grey’s Anatomy”

Over the years, the characters on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” have achieved medical breakthroughs, crisis situations, office romances, staffing shakeups and three hospital name changes. We’ll see what’s in store for season 20 when the popular medical drama returns Thursday after filming was delayed due to the Hollywood strikes. This season, Ellen Pompeo — who plays Dr. Meredith Grey — will not be a series regular but will appear periodically. Shonda Rhimes’ other ABC show, the firefighter drama “Station 19,” also returns Thursday for its seventh and final season. Both shows stream next day on Hulu. DETAILS

“Apples Never Fall”

Another Liane Moriarty novel has gotten the TV treatment. In Peacock’s “Apples Never Fall,” Annette Bening plays a wife and mother who goes missing, leaving her adult kids suspicious of their father (played by Sam Neill). The cast also includes Jake Lacy and Alison Brie. All episodes of the limited series drop Thursday. DETAILS

“Girls5Eva”

The comedy “Girls5Eva” has jumped from Peacock to Netflix for its third season. The musical comedy is about a girl group from the nineties who achieved a tiny bit of fame and are hoping to revive their celebrity status decades later. The show is executive produced by Tina Fey and stars Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell and Busy Philipps. All six episodes of season three stream Thursday. Seasons one and two are also available for viewing on Netflix. DETAILS

A new Apple TV+ limited series called “Manhunt” has made the assassination of Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth into a political thriller. Tobias Menzies stars as Edwin Stanton, former Secretary of War, who led the search for Booth after Lincoln’s murder. The show is based on the book “Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer” by James L. Swanson. It premieres Friday, March 15. DETAILS

“The Girls on the Bus”

Just in time for this election year, a new dramedy follows female reporters embedded on a presidential campaign. “The Girls on the Bus” stars Melissa Benoist (“Supergirl”) as Sadie McCarthy, a newspaper reporter who is enamored with old school journalism and idolizes Hunter S. Thompson. She travels the country by bus with a seasoned print reporter who always gets the scoop (Carla Gugino), a broadcast reporter at a conservative network (Christina Elmore) and a young journalist (Natasha Behnam), who embraces new media and uses Substack, sponsors and social media to reach an audience. “The Girls on the Bus” debuts Thursday on Max. DETAILS

“Call the Midwife”

Cozy PBS staple “Call the Midwife” returns for its 13th season on Sunday, March 17 on PBS. The period drama, narrated by Vanessa Redgrave, follows nurses, midwives and nuns working in London’s East End and is based on a memoir called “Call the Midwife: A True Story of the East End in the 1950s” by Jennifer Worth. The new season is set in 1969. “Call the Midwife” will be able to stream to PBS station-branded PBS platforms, including PBS.org and the PBS App. DETAILS

Film editor Carla Gutiérrez (“RBG”) makes her directorial debut with “Frida,” an evocative portrait of artist Frida Kahlo told in her own words. Gutiérrez used Kahlo’s diary entries, letters, essays and her paintings to drive the narrative, which delves into her childhood, her marriage, her style, her accident and, of course, her art. “Uncovering her own words and her own voice, I think what we’re presenting is a new way of getting into her world and in her mind and her heart and really understanding the art in a more intimate, raw way,” Gutiérrez told the AP before the film’s Sundance premiere. It debuts on Prime Video on Thursday. DETAILS

“Dream Scenario”

Nicolas Cage embraces the drab in Kristoffer Borgli’s “Dream Scenario” as Paul Matthews, a perfectly average college professor, husband and father whose life is turned upside down when millions of strangers start seeing him in their dreams. In her AP review Jocelyn Noveck wrote that “Borgli, the Norwegian writer-director making his English-language debut here (Ari Aster co-produces), is aiming for a broader statement about the nature of fame. And while the topic, which he’s broached before, may not be original, it’s ripe for exploration in the right hands — especially with an actor as inventive and unpredictable as Cage. Fame can be intoxicating, this film is saying, but it can and probably will turn on you in an instant.” It begins streaming on Max on Friday, March 15. And for the kids, “Trolls Band Together” arrives on Peacock on March 14. DETAILS

Moscow transport: metro, bus & taxi in Moscow | How does it work?

  • August 15, 2023

Moscow transport: metro, bus & taxi in Moscow

Moscow transport: how does it work? Here we summarized all you need to know about Moscow city public transport (bus, metro, card Troika), but also taxi in Moscow.

Distances in Moscow: walking in Moscow

Walking. The geolocation of your accommodation in Moscow is important, because the distances are great. You’re definitely not going to be able to do it all on foot. Moscow is the largest city in Europe with more than 12 million intramural inhabitants. Besides, Moscow is made for giants, because everything is big: the avenues, the buildings, the metro stations! So, the place of your accommodation is very important. You can check our blog post: Where to stay in Moscow?

Good to know! We have written 2 other blog posts that could be helpful: Maps of Moscow and Moscow Airport Transfer.

Public transport in Moscow: prices and how does it work?

Even if you are going to be able to visit many interesting places around Red Square (see the article: Moscow Red Square ), you will certainly take the metro to get around, but also to see the most beautiful stations . Furthermore, among public transport the metro remains the fastest solution in Moscow.

Good to know! Public transport is free for children under the age of 7. More specifically, 1 adult may not purchase a ticket for 1 child under the age of 7. If you are 2 adults, it is therefore for 2 children that the trips will be free.

Tips for Moscow city transport

Here are my tips to make travel more pleasant and optimized:

  • Avoid to take Moscow City transport during rush hours. Especially for ground transportation (lots of traffic jams). You will lose a lot of time, especially for city center trips by land transport. Peak hours correspond to office hours: the standard working day begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m.
  • Use a mobile application to estimate your journey time as accurately as possible. In Europe, as in Russia, we use CityMapper . It is a free application that allows you to calculate your trips and see all the possibilities to get from one place to another. For the application to work, you must have an Internet connection: either through your French package which can prove to be expensive; either by wifi, in your hotel, in a cafe (very common in Moscow) or by using the free Wi-Fi of the city of Moscow! To download CityMapper on your mobile, just type its name in AppStore or GooglePlay . Then choose the city where you want to use it.
  • Buy a transportation card. If you plan to take public transport several times a day or if you come to Moscow for a university or work exchange, it is more economical to take a transport card. I talk about it later in the article.
  • Further info about airport transfer here: How to get from airport to Moscow?

Moscow metro: the fastest way to get around Moscow

Beautiful! The Moscow Metro is considered the most beautiful in the world! You can find out which stations are worth a visit in my article: The most beautiful stations in Moscow .

Metro timetables. Times vary by station, but approximately the Moscow Metro is open from 5.30 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Below you can find a map of the Moscow metro, with an example of a metro station. You can find other Moscow maps here .

apple travel bus

Metro prices in Moscow

  • A single trip = 57 rubles (from February 1, 2020)
  • Price for transporting a suitcase in the metro = 60 rubles
  • With a transport card , the price of the journey decreases. Example: with the Troika card the price per trip increases to 40 rubles. More details about troika card below.
  • You can also pay with ApplePay or GooglePay.

Where to buy metro tickets?

  • At the cash desks , where you can buy everything: transport card or one-way tickets. Small flat: most of the time, the employees of the metro do not speak English very well. But they are used to it, you will be able to understand each other.
  • At the English terminals , where you can also buy everything. See below for more details on terminal purchases.

Moscow City transport taxi

Bus, trolleybus, tram in Moscow

Avoid at peak hours. The city center can be literally blocked! Mobile applications are very useful to estimate travel times.

Tram. Trams are very nice to do. It’s a bit special. Tram stops are hard on the road. The cars then stop and let the pedestrians get on or off the tram.

Price of a bus, trolleybus or tram ticket

  • One way = 57 rubles (from February 1, 2020)
  • With a transport card , the price drops. Example: with the Troika card the price per trip increases to 40 rubles. More details about transport cards below.

Where to buy bus, trolleybus or tram tickets?

To drivers. There are no controllers on each bus, as in St. Petersburg.

By purchasing a transport card in advance at a metro station. There are few terminals installed near bus, tram or trolley stations.

Good to know! It is possible to pay on the metro, but also on buses with your smartphone or a contactless card (Apple Pay or Google Pay)! The price is 44 rubles per way. Beware, however, of bank charges, as for other ruble payments in Russia. See article: How to pay in Russia?

Transport cards in Moscow

Two most interesting solutions for taking Moscow City transport:

troika card

Troika card prices

  • 1 metro, bus, trolley bus or tram journey: 40 rubles (instead of 57)
  • 90 minutes in public transport (regardless of the number of changes): 62 rubles

How to buy a Troika card?

  • Cost of purchase : 50 rubles. You can get it at all metro stations.
  • Refill . Once the card is purchased, you must reload it. You can choose the amount freely.
  • Where? It is possible to buy the card and recharge it at the metro cash desks or via automatic terminals, in cash or by bank card.

The Troika card is interesting if you:

  • want to take advantage of lower transportation rates.
  • stay in Moscow for a long time (language stays, expatriation, VIE, university exchange), but do not go for frequent daily trips.
  • don’t stay long, but you know roughly how many trips you’re going to make or you don’t mind reloading the card often. Why? It is possible, but long and complicated to recover the initial amount of 50 rubles, as well as the rest on the card.

How much does the unlimited Yediny card (central Moscow area) cost?

  • 1 day = 24 hours = 230 rubles
  • 3 days = 438 rubles
  • 30 days = 2170 rubles
  • There are no unlimited cards for 2, 4, 5, 6 or 7 days.

More details: Moscow transport website

How to buy a Yediny card?

It is possible to buy the card and recharge it at the metro cash desks or via automatic terminals, in cash or by bank card. The card is activated (the countdown starts) at the time of validation and not at the time of purchase. The card must be activated within 10 days of purchase (day of purchase included).

Here are the pictures of the automatic terminal (in English), when buying a Yédiny card.

apple travel bus

The Yediny card is interesting if you:

  • stay in Moscow for a long time (language stays, expatriation, university exchange), but make frequent daily trips.
  • do not stay in Moscow for a long time, but do not want to estimate your trips in advance (Troika card) while enjoying the unlimited.

Our experience with transport cards in Moscow

When I was working in Moscow, I used the Troika card. It was the most economical solution for me. We also used it later when we both went there. On the other hand, the last time we were there, we took the Yediny card and finally we found it more practical, even if it turned out to be less economical in the end.

Our verdict (compared to our travel habits): budget side, the Troika card is better. But for less headache (how much to put on the card? How much is left?…), The unlimited Yediny card is more practical.

Boat trips in Moscow

There are several boat trips on the Moskva River. In addition, it is even possible to buy an unlimited day ticket. For more information, you can then consult the article: Take a boat trip on the Moskva River.

Getting around in Moscow by taxi

There are several types of taxis in Moscow:

  • First, official taxis (sign on the roof);
  • Then individuals who do this out of the blue;
  • And finally Moscow taxis via mobile applications (private drivers or taxi agencies).

Good to know. The cost of a taxi ride to the city center in Moscow is around 500 rubles. If you want to avoid negotiations, use the taxi apps in Moscow.

Uber Moscow: NO.

It works before, but not anymore, because Uber does not use the classic app in Russia (they have created a special app for Russia, only this app works now). So, you have to download the special Uber Russia app… but this application is only available on the Russian AppStore, so it cannot be downloaded for us. Uber’s competitors in Russia such as YandexTaxi or Gett can be used.

Use the YandexTaxi app to take a taxi in Moscow

The Yandex company is the Russian Google. Initially a search engine, it also offers several services. YandexTaxi is then the taxi service in Moscow, it works everywhere in Russia. You can download the app from the AppStore or GooglePlay . Thanks to this application, it is possible to pay the taxi in cash (by default) or by bank card directly (to be specified in the application). If you are thinking of paying in cash, then have rather small denominations so that the driver can give you change. The application is now in French.

How does YandexTaxi work?

  • First, it detects your geolocation.
  • Then you indicate your arrival position using the Latin or Cyrillic alphabet.
  • It then offers you the estimated prices for each range (thrifty, business, etc.).
  • You choose, confirm and wait for the driver to arrive.
  • You identify the driver with the indicated license plate, then at the end YandexTaxi collects the race via your bank card (do not forget to put your card info before using the app, otherwise pay in cash).

Public transport and taxi in Moscow: summary

Getting around Moscow is quite simple, as Moscow City transport is well developed. However, because of traffic jams, the metro is the quickest solution. It isn’t an issue, because the Moscow metro is very clean and beautiful. Taxis are rather cheap and easy to find thanks to mobile applications like, for example, YandexTaxi.
