Lower Merion High School Dedication and Tour

Lower Merion High School invites the community to attend the dedication service for the high school's new building and facilities this Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, informational presentations about the new facility, student performances and public tours.  The high school is located at 315 E. Montgomery Avenue in Ardmore.

Hosted by lower merion hs crew association , registration at  regatta central, ergathon 2024 .

We are excited to kick off the Spring Season with our annual Ergathon Fundraiser.As the nation's first public high school rowing program,we have depended heavily on philanthropic support of alumni,parents and friends of rowing throughout the years.

On Saturday February 24  at 9:30 am we will meet at LMHS where the athletes will be divided into teams and will have friendly erg competion relay style.The goal is to fundraise enough funds to purchase a new 8 person boat.We are grateful for donation in any amount.Thank you for your support!

WE ARE STILL COMMITTED, ENGAGED, AND INVOLVED

Oakwell has been closed since June of 2023 but as of this moment, no new building plan has been submitted to the township So, Oakwell's fate has not been determined.

Lower Merion Township residents are urged to continue to speak out against the misuse of their taxes for Oakwell's destruction . Non-residents can make a valuable contribution by simply being there to make a visual statement.  Board meetings are admittedly tiresome, but let's make it more tiresome for the board than it is for us!

Updated Oakwell brochures and yard signs are available. If your yard sign was stolen, free replacement is offered.

The above picture is what 13.4 acres of Oakwell looks like today. Home to 700 mature trees-some in excess of 100 years old. Home to hundreds of species of birds and other animals, and is the site of numerous historical structures.

Our Children Deserve More

Some say that those of us who oppose the School Board plan to destroy hundreds of trees for ball fields are pitting the children against the trees. Nothing could be further from the truth.  Of course our children are more important than the trees. Our children are also more important than school district programs.

Yes, we do understand the importance of school sports. But the greatest threat our children face is the prospect of environmental catastrophe. Environmental degradation will have a more profound impact on our children and their generation than any school program.

The School Board has prioritized its programs before our kids’ futures. They have endorsed a plan for sports fields, and then, having acknowledged that it is an environmentally bad plan, expect compromises be made to support those plans. The School Board has it backwards.

For the benefit of our kids’ future, we first need to commit to avoiding further environmental destruction, and then, given the constraints imposed, devise the best programs possible.  Our children’s planet, and therefore our children, come first, not the programs.  Our children deserve better from us. Twenty years from now we want to tell them with pride we acknowledged the problem and were were part of the solution, and contributed to saving their finite, priceless natural world.

State education secretary tours Penn College

State Education Secretary Khalid N. Mumin visited Pennsylvania College of Technology on Thursday, receiving a tour of the impressive facilities and gaining a firsthand look at the institution’s innovative and effective approach to preparing the next generation of tomorrow makers.

Mumin’s campus call coincided with an exploration of Williamsport Area High School’s in-house Career and Technical Education Program.

Greeting the educational leader in the Davie Jane Gilmour Center were President Michael J. Reed; Joanna K. Flynn, vice president for academic affairs and provost; Loni N. Kline, senior vice president for college relations; Anthony J. Pace, associate vice president for enrollment & academic operations; Bradley M. Webb, dean of engineering technologies; Nate Woods Jr., special assistant to the president for inclusion transformation; and Patrick Marty, chief government & international relations officer.

The well-versed administrators led Mumin through the Center for Career Design and five academic areas: polymer engineering technology, dental hygiene, collision repair and automotive restoration, welding and metal fabrication technologies, and machining technologies. Joining him were Casey Smith, communications director of the state Department of Education, and Amy Lena, special advisor to the department’s Office of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The visit concluded with dinner in Le Jeune Chef Restaurant, where the group was joined by Sue A. Kelley, dean of business, arts and sciences; Valerie A. Myers, dean of nursing & health sciences; and Jennifer McLean, dean of students.

Mumin was appointed to his state post in 2023. For more than 25 years, he served in various capacities as a teacher, dean of students, principal and central administrator. Most recently, he served as the superintendent of schools at Lower Merion School District in Montgomery County, and prior to that, as superintendent of Reading School District. He began his educational career as a secondary English teacher.
