Pokémon GO’s First-Ever UK Safari Zone To Take Place In Liverpool
Pokémon GO's Safari Zone is heading to Liverpool, and it is introducing the brand-new City Explorer Pass to players.
The UK is getting its first Pokémon GO Safari Zone this April, and it will come with a cool added element that hasn't been used before.
One of Niantic's ultimate aims, when it created Pokémon GO and offered it up to the world, was to get people out of the house. Gaming stereotypically involves people sitting in one spot and not leaving the house for hours, if not days at a time , depending on how hardcore you are.
Trainers who want to be the very best, like no one ever was in Pokémon GO can't do that. They have to leave the house in search of all the Pokémon the real world has to offer. In a further attempt to get people out of the house and socializing for real, not just via a headset, Niantic has held events all over the world where trainers can gather to perform special tasks and reap unique rewards.

The trouble is, with a game as popular as Pokémon GO , that's a lot of people to please all at once. During the three and half years since Pokémon GO was released, UK players have been neglected somewhat. Well, that is no longer the case. Niantic has revealed that British fans are finally getting their first Safari Zone event. It will take place from April 17 to 19, 2020, in Liverpool.
Liverpool's Safari Zone will be similar to others that have taken place around the world. Trainers who attend will be given the opportunity to find rare Pokémon, including the New Zealand region-locked Relicanth. The first British Safari Zone will have a little added bonus, too -- something Niantic has dubbed the City Explorer Pass. It allows players to be a part of the fun for the entire weekend, not just the day they spend in Sefton Park.
The City Explorer Pass will activate at 6 AM GMT on the 17th and finish at 10 PM GMT on the 19th. Should trainers attending the event decide to buy the bolt-on, it will award them added bonuses such as half-hatch time and longer incense duration. The biggest bonus of all for players who pay for the £8 ($10.50) extra will be the 10 City Explorer Raids included. They will take place at "iconic" locations but the Pokémon appearing in them are yet to be revealed.

Pokémon Go Safari Zone at Sefton Park: Everything you need to know about the October experience
3 years ago
By The Guide Liverpool
Hundreds head to Sefton Park every weekend to run, picnic and play – but this month one of the city’s favourite green spaces is set to welcome some new visitors – Pokémon!
The park was chosen to host an official Pokémon GO event after Liverpool City Council’s Culture Liverpool team joined forces with software giants Niantic Inc to bring it to the UK for the first time ever.
So between Friday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17, it will become the Pokémon GO Safari Zone, in what will be a massive global event.
Two other locations – Philadelphia and St Louis in the US – will also host the event which was originally due to take place in 2020 but had to be cancelled due COVID-19.
Trainers will be able to hunt for the popular augmented reality characters while exploring the popular park.
A spokesman said: “We know how meaningful and rewarding it is to connect and explore together in the real world through our live events.”
Ticket holders can play wherever they are in the world, either by going to the in-person live event or playing globally online.
* Featured Pokémon will be appearing in the wild and will be attracted to Incense.
* Ticket holders will be able to complete event-exclusive Special Research and Field Research tasks.
* Incense activated during event hours will last for eight hours, and Lure Modules activated during event hours will last for four hours.
* As part of the event special 2km Eggs will be available.
Organisers says all ticket holders joining an in-person event must have RSVP’d to ensure a safe, distanced gathering.
The City Explorer Pass experience, which was sold as an additional experience for the original event, has been removed from the event with refunds for anyone who purchased it.
Where is the entrance to Pok é mon GO Safari Zone in Liverpool?
There will be two entrances to Pokémon GO Safari Zone Liverpool: North Gate & South Gate.
North Gate: Aigburth Drive, L17 3BD. South Gate: Mossley Hill Drive, L17 0ES.
What time will it start?
There are two starting times, 10am and 12 noon – trainers will not be able to check in before their assigned time.
Do I have to wear a face mask?
This event follows UK Government guidance. Face masks are not mandatory but are recommended. Organisers are asking trainers to practice healthy hygiene during their visit and, wherever possible, keep socially distanced from other players. There will be signage in place to help guide visitors.
What extra features will be available in-person at Sefton Park?
Trainers attending will be able to enjoy photo opportunities, giveaways, merchandising and lounge areas as they take part in the event.
Is this an all-ticket event?
Yes. Ticket holders are invited to either join the in-person Pokémon GO Safari Zone event hosted in Sefton Park or participate in event gameplay from wherever they are in the world! In-person attendees will need to RSVP ahead of the event.
Are there still tickets available?
Unfortunately not. All tickets are sold. Trainers who do not have a valid ticket will be unable to see or interact with Pokémon within the park.
No additional tickets will be made available, but organisers say to keep an eye out for future Pokémon GO Safari Zone events!

Pokémon GO Safari Zone 2021 in Sefton Park Liverpool: full guide to the event
Pokémon GO Safari Zone is taking over Liverpool's Sefton Park
- 15:00, 14 OCT 2021
The biggest UK Pokémon GO event is taking place in Liverpool's Sefton Park this weekend.
Pokémon GO Safari Zone 2021 will see thousands of people head to Sefton Park from around the UK in search for some specially released Pokémon that’ll be hidden around the Grade I listed green space.
The sold-out event was originally planned for 2020, but due to the pandemic it was forced to be rescheduled for this year.

Those taking part will use their mobile phones to locate, capture, battle and train virtual Pokémon creatures. The impressive technology means the Pokémon appear as if they’re in the player’s real-world location.
The augmented reality game connects people from all over the world and has been a huge success since its release in 2016 and has been downloaded more than one billion times. Pokémon GO Safari Zone has been hosted in various countries across the world since 2017, including the USA, Germany and Japan.
Niantic Inc., the team behind Pokemon GO, has worked with Liverpool City Council’s Culture Liverpool team to deliver the event.
Liverpool City Council’s cabinet member for culture and visitor Economy, councillor Harry Doyle, said: “Pokémon GO is one of the most well-known and well played games on the planet. For the team to have chosen Liverpool as the home for their biggest ever UK event is yet another sign that no one does major events as well as we do.
“Anyone who has visited the park in the last week will have seen the activity taking place to get ready to welcome the players and I hope everyone who attends the event has a great time.”
Philip Marz, lead of Pokémon GO marketing in EMEA, Niantic, said: “We are so excited to be bringing a Safari Zone event to Liverpool. Sefton Park is a beautiful location for our players to explore.
“It has been a real team effort to bring this event to life and we want to thank everyone who has been involved in creating what we know will be a brilliant event. We are looking forward to seeing many Trainers at Sefton Park to enjoy Pokémon GO together.”
The park will still be open to visitors over the weekend.

Pokemon GO Safari Zone 2022
Safari Zones are region-exclusive timed events within Pokemon Go , allowing trainers in various parts of the world to purchase a ticket and gain the chance to obtain some region-exclusive Pokemon.
This page breaks down exactly what Safari Zones entail, as well as what the most recent Safari Zone events are.
What Are Safari Zones?
A Safari Zone event is a recurring real-world event that is locked to a specific region. These occur all over the world and allow players within the relevant region to encounter and capture region-specific Pokemon that are outside of their own, often with a couple of brand new Pokemon debuts for each Safari Zone.
To gain access, you will need to:
- Be in the correct region, where the current Safari Zone is taking place
- Purchase a ticket via the Pokemon Go website .

Liverpool to host UK's first Pokémon Go Safari Zone
Beatle hunting.
The city of Liverpool has been chosen to host the UK's first Pokémon Go Safari Zone.
Tickets for the three-day event, to be held 17-19th April 2020, will go on sale on 31st January priced £12 (or £18 early access which grants two extra hours).
The northern UK city was chosen following a submission to #NianticLive2020, a scheme which encouraged city officials and local governments to apply to host a Niantic event this year. And for a city known for its Beatles - well, it's fitting choice for a franchise founded on bug collecting.
Set within the 235-acre Sefton Park, featured Pokémon spawns will include New Zealand regional Relicanth, plus Krabby, Dratini, Chinchou, Unown V and Oshawott in the wild.
In the US, meanwhile, similar Pokémon Go Safari Zone events will be held in the cities of St. Louis (27-29th March) and Philadelphia (8-10th May).
So, what is a Safari Zone? Typically, it's a event held within the confines of a large city park where ticket holders can find rare Pokémon - including regional creatures not usually seen in that part of the world.
More importantly, perhaps, it's a chance for thousands of people who play Pokémon Go to gather and enjoy the game together, surrounded by crowds of others doing the same.
The closest Safari Zone event to the UK in the past was held in Germany, with others taking place further afield in cities such as Montreal and Yokosuka, Japan. These are generally great fun , and a real experience - but a long, long way to travel. It's great to have one here in the UK for the first time.
While not announced today, these Safari Zones will take place before Pokémon Go's flagship Go Fest events, which we expect to return over the summer.
Speaking of these, Niantic today released figures detailing the tourism impact of its 2019 events on the surrounding areas. 64,000 people attended last year's Chicago Go Fest, triple the year before, with an estimated $120m boost to the Chicago tourism industry. In Dortmund, 86,000 people turned up and boosted the local area by an estimated $56m. And finally in Montreal, a Safari Zone city last year, 39,000 people played and spent an estimated $71m locally.
Pokémon Go remains big, big business - and 2020 looks set to be even bigger.
