- Lobster Boat Tours
Marshall Dodge’s classic humor recordings of “Bert & I” created a soundtrack to Maine lobstermen that is as accurate – and funny – today, as it was 60 years ago. If you’ve ever listened to “The Bluebird” and imagined yourself at the helm of a lobster boat, then it’s time to come to Maine. Lobster boat tours are a unique way to experience lobstering first-hand and learn how lobster fishermen preserve this vital industry.
A Family-friendly Excursion
Guests can pull up traps, and learn how lobstermen decide whether a lobster is good for dinner or needs to enjoy more time at the bottom of the sea. Kids delight in all the other creatures pulled from traps, too, like starfish and crabs.
You can often buy your catch and cook the freshest lobster imaginable or have a restaurant prepare it for you.
Tours go past lighthouses and other landmarks and the ocean’s mammals, like porpoises, seals and whales, can be seen.
You can have a lobster tour on a sail boat, traditional Downeast lobster boat or even ships with see-through floors!

An Authentic 5-Star Lobsterman Experience in New England ★★★★★
"Being from Iowa, we don't get a lot of exposure to lobsters, besides in the restaurants. We learned a lot about the lobster industry, and concerns about the lobster population around Maine. I would recommend this tour to anyone with any interest at all in it. Super knowledgeable crew, helpful and ready to answer any questions you have!"
"This was my first visit to the state of Maine and I was so excited about learning about lobsters. The trip with Rugosa Lobster Tours was definitely the best event of my trip. I learned all about lobsters, was able to hold a live one, and I have such an appreciation for the lobsterman/women who provide these delicious delicacies to our tables! Great trip. Highly recommend!"
"Captain Bob and the Lobster “Professor” John were super knowledgeable! Easy to get to, this lobster tour is not to be missed. We learned so much about Lobster (thought we already knew a lot!!), the local industry as well as the surrounding area. Traveling with a 9-year old, our son was very engaged throughout the 90-minute trip and enjoyed the hands-on experience. Thank you so much for a memorable trip out!!!"
"Captain Bob and Jessi were phenomenal! The entire tour was educational and entertaining. We were so happy to return to Iowa and tell our friends and family all of the fun facts we learned. Would highly recommend! They even provided sea bands for anyone who potentially would get sick! Great boat and team!"

KENNEBUNKPORT BOAT TOURS ARE FOR EVERYONE!
Scenic lobster and seal cruise
The ship’s captain let my son “steer” the ship and he also got to see a lobster up close! My husband has been coming to Maine more than 30 years and he loved the scenic tour of the coastline in a way he hadn’t seen before. Plus it was an excellent way to beat the heat.
Definitely the ride the take
We are local to the area and have been on a few boat trips in the area and this was by far our favorite. Definitely the one to take if you have little kids. Our 4 year old LOVED the lobsters and getting a chance to steer the boat. Very friendly crew and overall a lot of fun!
Lobster tour, little kid friendly.
We did the Lobster tour and took our 4 year old grandson. This tour company is first rate! From the kids at the front office to the crew on Kylie’s Chance. It even rained on us, and everyone was cool! We live here year round and this is the first time out on this boat. We will highly recommend and be back! Thanks so much!
Perfect activity for families with young kids
Had a great time with 2 little ones. Perfect length for our group at an hour and a half. Loved getting out on the water and being able to view and handle the lobster. Both kids even got to drive the boat!
Memorable lobster tour!
My nephew and I enjoyed the trip with First Chance. The captain and his mates were very friendly, knowledgeable and interactive with us on the boat. The views were spectacular, the lobster pull very informative and the time on the sea relaxing. Would choose them again in a heartbeat! Good value for my money.

Guide to the Best Lobster Boat Tours in Maine
A fun way to get out on the water is on a Maine Lobster Boat and/or Scenic Boat Tour. Departing from seaside villages and harbors are hourly or half day tours aboard authentic Maine lobster boats. Your Captain will take you on a narrated boat ride, show you lobster pots and even haul in a lobster trap for the day’s catch. This will whet your appetite for a lobster dinner that evening .
You will also see the dramatic Maine coastline as part of your cruise. The Lobster boat tours from Kennebunkport cruise around Walkers Point, the so-called summer White House of former President Bush.
Lighthouse boat tours are another fun affordable adventure. The best way to see many of Maine’ s lighthouses is by water, the way sailors do. Your lighthouse tour guide will provide you seafaring legends and lore about Maine’s historic lighthouses . Boat tours out of Portland bring visitors into Casco Bay, around Bug Light and Portland Headlight – Maine’ s first and foremost lighthouse.
An evening lighthouse cruise is spectacular as the sun sets on the Maine shore. Many charters let you byob so you can enjoy a cocktail cruise and sunset – Maine magic.
Lobster boat tours and Lighthouse tours during the day are more afforadable than a full day schooner sail for example, and typically take an hour or two so they are family friendly – kids will enjoy the boat ride and the chance to see a fisherman catch a real live Maine lobster .
Everyone will appreciate the scenery of the beautiful Maine coastline from the deck of the tour boat. You will find daily and even hourly lobster boat tours and lighthouse boat tours in season in the Maine harbor towns of Kennebunkport, Portland, Boothbay Harbor, Camden, Rockland, and Bar Harbor.
Dress accordingly for your boat ride, sneakers or boat shoes, and a jacket or windbreaker as it is often much cooler on the water off shore. Warning, you may be craving a fresh Maine lobster after your boat ride, but that is an easily solved dilemma at any of Maine’s seafood restaurants.

Southern Maine Lighthouses
Heading North Through Kittery, Kennebunkport, South Portland, and Portland
Lighthouses built along southern Maine's coastline helped to guide shipping traffic between Portsmouth and Portland harbors, and for the many lobstermen and fishermen earning their living coming into these coastal harbors. There are treacherous ledges and shoals such as Boon Island that needed a lighthouse placed on it due to the many shipwrecks that occurred on this tiny desolate group of rocks, along with others on route to Portland.
Southern Maine Lighthouses You Can Drive or Hike To
Note: Some of the lighthouses mentioned below that you can drive to can also be viewed from various boat tours offered, see Boat Tours below. Southern Maine is heavily populated during the summer with tourism.

ABOUT YOUR VESSEL, CAPTAIN & CREW
F/V Bottom Line is a 46' WesMac that is fully insured and Coast Guard certified. It is a commercial lobster fishing vessel that is owned by Bottom Line Fisheries, Inc. Captain Dan Rodgers is a licensed captain, who has worked as a commercial fisherman for over 30 years. He was born and raised in Corea and started this business to offer visitors to the area this amazing sightseeing and lobstering experience. This is a family run business and your crew will either be Melissa who is Dan's wife, she grew up locally in neighboring Birch Harbor and has over 4 generations of lobster fishing in her family. Or you will be joined by our daughter Taylor, she has been lobster fishing since she was 8 years old and continues now as an adult with her dad commercial lobstering and educating passengers on our lobster tours.
BEAUTIFUL COASTAL MAINE SIGHTS
We set sail from the beautiful working harbor of Corea, we leave and go through our small chain of islands in search of the gray and harbor seals that frequent that area. We then set sail for the Petit Manan Island here you will find a variety of seabirds including the Atlantic Puffin that come to nest every season. We like to make everyone aware that the Puffin season is mid-May through the end of July, after that they will travel offshore until the next breeding season. The island is also home to the Petit Manan Lighthouse, built in 1857 it stands at 119 feet, is Maine’s 2nd tallest lighthouse, and still is in service today. As we continue back towards shore we then demonstrate the process of lobster trap hauling and about the lobsters we can keep here in the beautiful State of Maine
