TreeTrek tour

Having a delicate lower back and not being fond of heights steered us towards the tamer of the options offered by Ziptrek. Being high up in the canopy of the trees on platforms are a realization of your childhood dreams of building über tree forts that makes this worth doing. The ecology narration that comes with the tour did at times detract from my overall enjoyment. When the guide starts throwing in terms like "mother earth", "karma" and the like it moves from being informative to a presentation of a distorted world view. Nonetheless, if you stay engaged you can learn something at about the flora you are surrounded by. We purchased this as part of a package that included the peak-to-peak gondola ride. Bringing the overall value back in line. It also helps that you receive 20% of your meal @ Dubh Linn Gate Pub after purchasing a tour from Ziptrek.

Dear PhoenixFlash, Thank you kindly for taking the time to write your review of Ziptrek - much appreciated. I was delighted to read that your TreeTrek tour provided the opportunity to rekindle and realize some of your childhood dreams of being high up in the canopy among the tree tops. I was obviously less pleased to read that you felt the sustainability education component was a detraction at times. The majority of our guests have found this to be an enhancement (as evidenced by other reviews, and feedback we've received). That said, I can fully appreciate that if the information provided is skewed or presented in a way that makes things unclear or slightly off base, that is not ideal (or what we strive for). We do provide our guides the latitude to inject some of their unique personalities, style, or flavourings to their speaking points, but not to the degree that would allow for inaccuracies, or distortions (that of course is not the intention). Thank you again for providing this feedback which I can share with our Operations Group. Lastly, nice to hear you managed to partake in the Peak 2 Peak Combo (a great package), and the Dubh Linn Gate deal - sounds like you hit the perfect trifecta! Cheers, Warrick Hubbard

Very safe for a family activity. We did the Eagle Tour. Enjoyed the scenery and our guides were very informative about the surrounding ecosystem. Our group members all tried going upside down on the last zip...quite a thrill and not that scary.

I thought it would be a great adventure, but it scared me! Others in our group of middle aged ladies loved it, with a few doing the tour again the next day. The practice zip in the village was a piece of cake, really fun. We were all looking forward to heading up the mountain and zipping away. Stepping off the first platform wasn't bad, the ground wasn't that far down, but half way across the river, I realized I didn't like it at all. The 2nd zip was far worse, higher and longer! If there had been a way for me to bail out of the rest of the tour, I would have in a heartbeat. No way out, except to buck up and deal with it. Each zip got a little easier to deal with, but I never really enjoyed it and was glad when it was over. Don't get me wrong, the tour was done very well. The guides were great, safety was paramount. I just want to advise those who may be apprehensive to think about it before you find yourself on the other side of the river. For the rest of you, go for it and enjoy yourselves.

Dear WashingtonMcgee, I wanted to send you a quick note to thank you for taking the time to write your review of Ziptrek. Sorry to hear the experience didn't seem to be your cup of tea, and left you feeling scared at some points. Over time, a reasonable number of our guests have experienced a bit of trepidation at the start of their Tour, but as they progress through the course their confidence level builds and it ends up being a great overall experience. Unfortunately this obviously didn't transpire in your particular case, for which I can only offer my sympathies. Our literature (brochures), guest services (when asked), and other information sources (website) do highlight the fact that there are heights and speeds involved in the experience - which most people look forward to and are in fact seeking out. That said, I do also appreciate that individuals have varying degrees of tolerance for these aspects. In hindsight, it sounds like TreeTrek (access to same area, but no zipping) may have been the better option for you, and perhaps you'll give that consideration on your next visit. Sincerely, Warrick Hubbard

The price was reasonable, inexpensive. its SAFE yet still exciting. MY wife did it with no problem at all! I was with a group where there is a family of five. The oldest was 8 and the youngest was 4. Great activity for a family as well! I would recommend going in the ones after 5pm. Its cheaper. But there is also the drawback where the sun sets earlier and earlier as the Autumn comes along. At the end of our tour on our last line the sky was getting very dark and couldnt even see very well.

We did the Eagle Tour - our guides were Raf and Alistair. We went on 6 ziplines, the longest one being 2,200ft. We have done a couple of ziplines in Thailand and this was the best so far. You don't have to brake yourself, it is all done for you by the guides. You just need to sit back in your harness and enjoy the views. The whole experience was very safe and professional. The guides were well informed about the environment and eco system. The views are stunning and we would recommend this to travelllers of all ages. If we had more time in Whistler, we would go on the Mammoth tour.

Dear DeniseandBrent, To begin, I just wanted to send a quick message along to thank you for taking the time to write your review of Ziptrek - we truly appreciate the effort. I was of course very pleased to hear that you enjoyed the experience and I thoroughly enjoyed reading your contribution, as I believe it provides great insight to other readers on what they can expect. We hope you make it back to Whistler at some point and have the opportunity to take on the Mammoth tour! Cheers, Warrick Hubbard

Took the five zipline tour in the rain forest. Our guides were very good and made everyone feel comfortable. What an exciting thing to do, even in your 60's.

TreeTrek Canopy Walk in Whistler with ZipTrek Ecotours

This is a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are always my own.

My family adores being out in nature. During the summer, we spend even more time hiking and at the beach.

During our last trip to Whistler, we had the opportunity to go on a TreeTrek Canopy Walk with ZipTrek.

About the TreeTrek Canopy Walk

The TreeTrek Canopy Walk is a great activity for the entire family. This is a guided tour that takes you deep inside a lush Whistler forest. Guests get to experience one of the last old-growth forests by using a network of suspension bridges, suspension stairways and hiking trails.

During the Canopy Walk, you’ll see Cedar, Hemlock and Fir trees. You’ll also spot the beautiful Fitzsimmons Creek, mountains and more.

The TreeTrek Canopy Walk does not require you to do any ziplining (although, you might want to book a zip line tour after this doing the TreeTrek!)

What you need to Know

The TreeTrek Canopy Walk is for ages 6 and up (infants are welcome to join if they are secured in a carrier). It is a moderate hike that takes about 1.5 hours to complete.

Ziptrek picks up their guests in Whistler village and drives them via one of their shuttles to their base on Blackcomb Mountain. A guide remains with the group at all times and shares a wealth of information about old-growth forests and more.

TreeTrek Canopy Walk tours are held all year in all weather conditions.

My family really enjoyed our TreeTrek Canopy Walk tour. Our guide was kind, professional and very knowledgeable.

My children loved using the suspension bridges from tree to tree. They also enjoyed learning about the different types of trees and watching people zip line.

I strongly believe that this is a great, easy activity to do as a family. Everyone belongs in nature and this tour allows you to experience and learn more about beautiful British Columbia.

An awesome looking place I will have to visit soon and enjoy nature.

This looks like a lot of fun! 2 of my 3 are too young for this quite yet, but I’d certainly do this with my oldest! 🙂

It would be so awesome to walk among the large Firs!!

Not too sure I could do this now but it looks amazing.

Thanks for sharing.New to Vancouver Island (Nanaimo) so look forward to seeing this in person!

I would love to do this. I wish I could get out there and have some fun but my husband cannot walk that far. Maybe someday!

This looks like so much fun. My daughter would love it.

Dang – read this the week after we had the grandkids. On a future list.

This is a great place to have an adventure

i could not do this, but my husband would love it

Looks like a great day with the kids! Beautiful scenery.

I love this! It’s a great way to get kids out in nature and appreciate the fun in hiking!

My family loves to me outdoors this would be a fun little getaway for us!

It looks beautiful. I’m terrified of heights though.

This would be my idea of fun! I would love to do the treetrek. Hopefully I can make it out there someday.

Amazing trek – would love to try this out – zip lines for me!

This looks like something I would really like – I love the forest – heights, not so much … but at least it isn’t out in a bare space like some !

What great scenery. Looks like a hike my family would love to take.

This looks like such a fun activity! Will have to remember this for our next trip to B.C. !

I would love to try this! Getting exercise and spending time in nature and learning all at the same time makes for a great outing.

What I’m loving is how high the fences are on the bridge… I’m so scared of them! And I know I sound neurotic but there have been a lot of tragic accidents on other ones!!!

Love canopy hikes/walks; they are an amazing way to experience nature and see the world from a different angle and such an important way to appreciate and learn.

This looks like so much fun!

One doesn’t haven’t to go to a foreign country to enjoy this tree top hike!!! Whistler is one of the most beautiful places ever!

The TreeTrek Canopy Walk look and sound like so much fun!

This looks like a lot of fun, but me being a bigger overweight person I would be scared to cross some of them bridges

oh this looks cool! what interests me the most is walking through all the trees and being surrounded by nature. so peaceful & enchanting

Moscow metro tour: architectural styles of the subway.

ziptrek treetrek tour

Duration: 2 hours

Categories: Culture & History, Sightseeing

This metro tour of Russia’s capital and most populous city, Moscow, is your chance to get a unique insight into the beautiful and impressive architecture of the city's underground stations. Admire their marble walls and high ceilings representing Stalin's desire for glory after World War 2, and see first-hand how the interiors change with the rise of new political eras. Your guide will lead you through the complex network, which is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems worldwide, with over two billion travelers in 2011.

Opened in 1935, Moscow’s underground system, now 190 miles (305 km) long with 185 stations, is today one the largest and most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world. On this Moscow metro tour, discover the impressive architecture of Moscow’s underground stations and learn how they reflect the Soviet era.

Getting around by metro, your local guide will take you through parts of Moscow’s infamous history. Stop at stations built during the time of the USSR (Soviet Union) that are praised as one of the most extravagant architectural projects from Stalin’s time. After World War 2, he was keen on establishing Stalinist architecture to represent his rising regime and a recognized empire. Learn how when his successor started the de-Stalinization of the former Soviet Union in 1953, the extravagancy of the architecture was toned down.

Discover how the unique character of each station reflected several different eras. While stations like Kievskaya and Slavyansky Bulvar have pompous halls and high stucco ceilings brimming with extravagant decorations, those built later, like Volzhskaya, are lightly adorned with sparse furnishings. Architect Alexey Dushkin and painter Alexander Deyneka were just two of the many artists who made these magnificent landmarks possible.

Revel in Moscow's glory days, as well as the years of scarcity, on this fascinating Moscow metro experience. Conclude your tour at one of the central stations in Moscow. If you're lucky, you may even find the secret entrance to the unconfirmed Metro-2, a parallel underground system used by the government -- a mystery which has neither been denied nor confirmed today.

Culture Shock Rating

We have a wide range of tours designed to give you an insight into the destination you're travelling in and there is something for everybody. The culture shock ratings considers the destination visited, transport used, activities undertaken and that "Wow, I'm really not at home now!" factor. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

This is the least confronting of our tour range. Transport used on the trip is either private or a very comfortable public option, the activities included are usually iconic sites and locations that are not all too confronting.

The tour can include a mix of private and public transport providing a level of comfort that is slightly below what you would experience at home. Sites visited are usually iconic sites, tours can also include market visits, visits to communities etc that provide the traveller with a fantastic insight into destination.

Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether it's a packed public bus where you are forced to stand, a visit to a local market, a local community, you are sure to have an experience that is very different from what you're used to at home.

The comforts of your home town and the environment you are used to are more of a rarity. Expect some challenging transport options, visits to local sites and areas that don't resemble anything at home.

You're out there in the global community! You are likely to be exposed to the elements, travel in whatever means of transport is available and basically take it as it comes, whatever comes! It can be tough.

Physical Rating

Our physical rating gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

These Tours will provide you with some solid physical activity. Whether its bike riding, walking, trekking, kayaking or riding on public transport you will need to have a good level of fitness to enjoy this tour.

Be prepared for some serious physical activity. These tours are our most challenging and involve some serious walking, hiking or bike riding. Can involve step climbs by foot or pedal and some challenging public transport options in the destination you are travelling.

Luxury Rating

Some trips are like a stroll on the beach, while others have you trekking alpine passes. Some of you thrive on camping out on the savannah, while others may prefer a hot shower and a comfortable bed in a lodge. Follow the grading systems below to find the right trip for you.

To help you choose the trip that's right for you, we've broken all of our trips down into four service levels. Measuring the comfort level of the accommodation and transport. So whether you're travelling on a budget and want to save money by using public transport, or prefer upgraded accommodation and are happy to pay a little more, then we have a level for you.
