About + live +.

+LIVE+ have sold over 22 million albums worldwide and earned two number one albums: Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi. Their catalog is filled with such gems as “Lightning Crashes,” “I Alone,” “All Over You” and “Lakini’s Juice,” which live on today as classics on rock radio. Throwing Copper—which the band celebrated in 2019 with a new deluxe 25th anniversary edition via Radioactive/Geffen/Ume along with a global tour across major festivals, amphitheaters and arenas--produced the band’s biggest single, “Lightning Crashes,” which was #1 at Modern Rock radio for ten consecutive weeks. Throwing Copper reached #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually surpassed sales of 10 million albums sold, with Rolling Stone honoring the album with placement on their list, “1994: The 40 Best Records From Mainstream Alternative's Greatest Year.” Secret Samadhi (1997) immediately shot to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually went double platinum. The release of the platinum-selling The Distance to Here (1999) turned +LIVE+ into an international powerhouse and moved the band from arenas into stadiums. +LIVE+ has been and remains today a global concert juggernaut. The band released an acclaimed five-song EP in 2018, LOCAL 717, their first new music in over a decade.

+LIVE+ Unplugged

Tuesday, october 17, 2023  | the forum auditorium in harrisburg, pa.

“After a multi-year break from touring, I am totally ecstatic about singing and playing for LIVE fans again!” says +LIVE+ singer, songwriter and frontman Ed Kowalczyk about the multi-platinum and critically acclaimed band’s tour dates this fall.

“And I’ll be surrounded,” Ed adds,” by an absolutely stellar group of musicians that have all spent years captivating audiences onstage with LIVE all over the world.  It’s going to be amazing and I can’t wait to see you all!”

For these dates, the band’s classic lineup is unavailable due to various extenuating circumstances, so Ed has hand-picked a group of musicians who are part of the band’s extended family: guitarist Zak Loy (who’s been with Ed and +LIVE+ for 10 years), drummer Robin Diaz (the former Hole member who performed with the band for two years) and bassist Chris Heerlein (who played in ED ’s solo band for six years). The +LIVE+ set list will be comprised of their massive hits and fan favorites—songs that have defined the alternative rock era.

Live reviews.

I follow all things to do with the band called LIVE because this Band is what the spirit of ROCK music is all about! The songs written have true life meaning and LIVE is able to capture all of it and share it in such a joyful ROCKED UP WAY with anyone who puts an ear to it!

Their Shows are always a BLAST cause everybody's singing and rockin' along Just like the band wants them all to do! I loved LIVE with Ed Kowalczyk as the frontman (but he's doing his solo thing now, which I also stay close to). So it's a new beginning for the rest of the original members (Chad Taylor, Chad Gracey and Patrick Dahlheimer) with their new frontman Chris Shinn to keep pressing forward for All things LIVE!

Chris Shinn is an AWESOME fit for this spot; not as a replacement for Ed (no one could ever replace Ed Kowalczyk) but for sure the right guy to be the frontman of what is LIVE now.

Anyway, everybody in LIVE and all their fans are all kinds of excited because LIVE is getting ready to release a new album with their new frontman Chris Shinn that's GONNA KICK ASS! Woohoo! LIVE ARE BACK!!

so, this was my 24th and last LIVE show. I have seen this band since they were just out of high school and in multiple venues throughout the last 25+ years. The energy level isnt there anymore and they are phoning it in. Playing 2 covers - while great renditions of Paint it Black and Losing My Religion are not what we came to see. They could have replaced those sons with any of the GREAT songs from their catalog and the show would have been better. In his day, Ed used to engage the audience in a high energy manner, for 1/2 the show he played with sunglasses on and was very distant. Forgetting the lyrics to an ALL TIME CLASSIC is unconscionable. The set list on this tour hasn't varied much at all, and certainly in the last month - causing me to suspect that backing tracks are in use, but who knows. So in summary, it's great to see the band back together, but they needed to play MUCH more (probably 5-7 songs more, without covers) and engage their adoring audience.

I have seen Live a handful of times over the past 24 years. I did enjoy their show last night although the sound wasn’t to me liking. The mix was muddy at times, and they had a second drummer, and guitar player for some strange reason. My guess is to sound more powerful, but I prefer them as a four piece. I found them more efficient with just the four members playing.

The surprise guest was Stephen Perkins from Jane’s Addiction. He sat in on a song and played superbly. He is such a phenomenal drummer. Overall, I enjoyed their set, but it was not anything to write home about. I was glad to see Ed Kowalzic back with the band. He seemed happy to be back, and the band seemed happy to have him there. 7/10

What an amazing show. We arrived a little late so it is hard to pass comment on the support band. The ? collective. But they were ok I guess.

When Live took to the stage was a definite change in atmosphere. Ed and the two Chads along with the other musicians. Pumped out the songs from the 25 year Old album Throwing copper. With Otter creek, shit town and lightening crashes to name but a few. They sounded just like they did when I sawoke them in Manchester in 1997. To round things off Ed K dI'd two acoustic songs and wow what a atmosphere. I alone rang out then it was like a secret prayer at the end. What a fantastic show loved every second of it.

Firstly the venue is awesome! What a great place for a concert! So fantastic to see the band back together and with such great energy! The boys are back and sounding better than ever!! Great to see that they were able to overcome their past troubles and get back the magic that makes them Live! Not many bands could do what they have done. Kudos to them as humans and the power of burying the hatchet! While the Throwing Copper tribute is great and they are having fun with the covers, I personally can't wait for the headlining tour so we can hear some new stuff and hopefully some songs they haven't done in a long time..

Still sounding great after 10 years away from London. I thought 'Losing my Religion' and 'Paint it Black' were odd choices given the Live's back catalogue and recent album, but I guess that's their choice. Not sure about Chad and Patrick's twin hat and sunglasses ZZ Top look either. They all still sound great so no need for gimmicks and covers.

Live was awesome! I had an expectation and hope that they would be "good" but they far exceeded my expectations! Excellent show, great musicians and the sound was awesome! Would definitely recommend seeing them even for a casual fan of the band or for people who remember hearing a couple of their songs even.

Going to see Live live never disappoints ... the night sky with all its secrets... Looking forward to something new even if the older material still feels like the first time hearing it.

THANK YOU infinitely for giving me the chance to share and experience such beautiful moments...

Live as always was incredible live. Do they call themselves live because they always sound live. A great mix of songs . Shame was they played before counting crows who totally stank. Used to love thier tunes but the lead just droned on and on and they played very few hits

Seanb47’s profile image

The show was superior! The integration of their new music with the old was seamless. My wife who is not a rock fan, is now a LIVE fan "forever". These guys so kicked it! The variety and strength of each bit of guitar work by each member sent me through the roof.

‘robbin’ the hood’: sublime’s wonderfully lo-fi second album, ‘funky kingston’: toots and the maytals’ classic collection.

Old Soul marks the musician’s first full-length project since 2016 and is his highly-anticipated fifth solo album. The release leans into his strengths of live performance and spontaneity, opening him up as an artist as never before.

Marley is aided on Old Soul by a raft of exciting names, from Eric Caption and Bob Weir to Jack Johnson and Buju Banton. His brother Ziggy and half-brother Damian “Jr. Gong” also appear on the record alongside Slightly Stoopid.

Old Soul was previewed last week by the instant grat track “Cool As The Breeze,” which finds him singing sweetly: “ You’re with me everyday/You’re never far away/Smiling ‘cause you please/You’re just as cool as the breeze. ”

Written through nightly jam sessions on a remote family farm in the Florida countryside during the COVID lockdown, Old Soul encompasses everything from original compositions and reggae rarities to classics by Ray Charles , Frank Sinatra , and The Beatles that are loaded with personal meaning. Among the tracklist is also a cover of his dad Bob’s classic song “I Shot The Sheriff.”

“You have to be true to yourself,” Marley said of the record’s variety. “I refuse to be put into any category. I am inspired by everything. So if I feel like I want to play some jazz music, I will go play some jazz music. Who dig it, dig it.”

British rock band The Struts have announced a run of US dates as part of their “Remember the Name Tour.”

The new outing, featuring support from Mac Saturn, kicks off June 23rd at The Fillmore in Detroit and runs through a July 23rd date at The Fillmore Philadelphia. Tickets for the upcoming shows are currently available via  StubHub .

The Struts recently released a new EP, Unplugged at EastWest , which is both a live album and video set recorded with Taylor Guitars. The four-song EP includes unplugged versions of their hit single “Fallin’ With Me,” as well as covers of Michael Jackson’s “Stranger In Moscow” and Oasis’ “Supersonic,” plus a full-length version of “Pretty Vicious.” The latter was uploaded to TikTok in 2021 and garnered 14 million views, making it a viral sensation.

In other news, Struts frontman Luke Spiller recently released his new collaboration with Fossil Group imprint Misfit , a special-edition watch that launches the brand’s Artist Series designs. The limited-run “The Time Is Now” set is described in a press release as a “modern take on a vintage-inspired pocket watch that can be worn as a traditional wristwatch or on a necklace chain.”

10 fun things to do this weekend in Columbus (March 15-17)

live unplugged tour 2023

Happy mid-March! It's hard to believe the month is halfway gone, but what's still here is a wealth of things to do in Columbus this weekend!

During a stop on his solo tour, country icon Travis Tritt will bring acoustic music to the Palace Theatre and the Columbus Metropolitan Library's main branch will hold its semi-annual Big Book Sale, three days' worth of great prices for great books, CDs, DVDs and other items.

Several local theater and dance stages are bustling with productions, from Short North Stage's "The Prom" to BalletMet's "Asian Voices."

There's plenty more events where those came from and you can read about them all below. To receive these ideas in your inbox each week, sign up for the  Life in the 614 newsletter .

Short North Stage goes to 'The Prom'

In "The Prom," a group of Broadway actors find their lives changed when they travel to a conservative small town in Indiana to support an LGBTQ+ teen's fight to attend her prom with her girlfriend. Presented by Short North Stage, this uplifting musical will be previewed in a Pay What You Want performance at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Garden Theater MainStage, 1187 N. High St. An opening night reception will precede the 7 p.m. Friday show. Other showtimes are 2 p.m. Saturday; March 17, 23, 24, 30; April 6, 7; and 7 p.m. Saturday; March 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30; April 4, 5, 6. The April 7 show will include ASL interpretation and a post-performance talkback with the cast. Ticket prices range from $33 to $65 and student rush tickets cost $20. ( cbusarts.com )

Travis Tritt to perform unplugged set

Award-winning country singer and Grand Ole Opry member Travis Tritt will make a stop during his 2024 Solo Acoustic Tour at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Palace Theatre, 34 W. Broad St. The native Georgian is known for his many hits, including five No. 1 singles: "Help Me Hold On," "Anymore," "Can I Trust You With My Heart," "Foolish Pride," and "Best of Intentions," as well as the classic kiss-off “Here’s A Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares)." Ticket prices start at $51, with a six-ticket limit per person/household. ( cbusarts.com )

MadLab's 'Normies' to explore life in drag

Imagine a world where the predominant culture is everything drag: drag doctors, drag pilots, drag dog walkers — everyone’s happy and fabulous all the time! But some folks choose to live a separate, non-drag life: the "Normies" who make up the title of MadLab's latest production. See what happens when a Normie and a Drag commit the scandalous sin of falling in love. Performances will be at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, March 22-23 and March 29-30 at MadLab Theatre, 227 N. 3rd St. Tickets cost $20 for the general public, $17 for students and senior citizens and $15 for MadLab members. A limited number of Pay What You Want tickets are available by emailing [email protected]. ( madlab.net )

BalletMet to make 'Asian Voices' heard

A spectacular group of artistic voices will take the stage at BalletMet's final triple bill of the 2023-24 season, "Asian Voices," opening this weekend at the Davidson Theatre, 77 S. High St. The production will include departing BalletMet Artistic Director Edwaard Liang's critically acclaimed "Seasons," the Columbus premiere of "Flight of Fancy" by Ma Cong and the world premiere of "Timeless Tide" by Yue Yin. After 11 seasons leading the ballet company, Liang will leave the position at the end of this season to become artistic director at the Washington Ballet in Washington, D.C. "Asian Voices" will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and March 22-23; 2 p.m. Sunday; and 7:30 p.m. March 21. Ticket prices range from $36.50 to $99.50. ( balletmet.org )

Abbey Theatre of Dublin, Stage Right Theatrics team up for 'Our Town'

A stage classic, Thornton Wilder's "Our Town" examines the circle of life and its fleeting nature through the lives of George and Emily, whose childhood friendship blooms into romance. Set in the fictional town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, the Pulitzer-winning three-act play will be presented for two weekends by Abbey Theatre of Dublin in collaboration with Stage Right Theatrics. Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and March 21-23 and at 2 p.m. Sunday and March 24 in the Abbey Theater, 5600 Post Road, Dublin. Tickets cost $20. ( dublinohiousa.gov/abbey-theater )

Main library to host Big Book Sale

If you're searching for something new to read, watch or listen to, the Friends of the Columbus Metropolitan Library is holding its semi-annual Big Book Sale, offering books and other materials no longer suitable for the library's collection. General sales will take place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and a bag sale from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Larry D. Black Auditorium and meeting room 1A at the main library, 96 S. Grant Ave. Children’s books start at $1 and adult fiction/nonfiction books, CDs, DVDs and audiobooks start at $2. Proceeds support the library’s programs and services. ( columbuslibrary.org/friends )

Hixon Dance to examine war, other themes

Hixon Dance's new production, "Black Angels," will feature live music by Columbus Symphony Orchestra musicians Alicia Hui, Gyusun Han, Spencer Ingersoll and Mary Davis. Shows will take place at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at Columbus Dance Theatre, 592 E. Main St. The opening piece, "The Nameless," examines the emotional toll of war on victims both on and off the battlefield, while "Within the Interstice" is a lighthearted dance exploring post-war existentialist ideas set to "Moonlight Sonata” on what sounds like a toy piano. The evening will end with "Black Angels," influenced by cultural aesthetics from baroque court spectacles to traditional Asian theater. General admission tickets cost $20, or $15 for senior citizen and $12 for students online and at the door ( hixondance.com )

Renowned trumpeter to join symphony

Internationally known trumpeter Pacho Flores, who captivated the audience in a past performance with the Central Ohio Symphony will return to headline the symphony's concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Gray Chapel auditorium, 61 S. Sandusky St., on the Ohio Wesleyan University campus in Delaware. Flores will perform two commissioned works and an encore of "Diamond Hands" by Italian composer Ricardo Molla. The orchestra will play Cincinnati composer Susanna Hancock’s "Beghilolia" and Dvorak's "Symphony No. 7." Delaware artist David Groff created a painting that will be for sale at the concert, with proceeds going to support the symphony. A free shuttle will take attendees from the parking lots on South Henry Street at Selby Stadium to Gray Chapel. Tickets cost $30, or $25 for senior citizens and $6 for students of all ages, available online or at the symphony office in Delaware’s historic sheriff’s residence, 20 W. Central Ave. ( centralohiosymphony.org )

Organist to lead Stations of the Cross

Anyone who has attended a Sunday Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral, 212 E. Broad St., has heard the magnificent sound of the church's pipe organ built and installed in 2006. On Sunday at 3 p.m., Christians of all denominations are invited to hear Richard Fitzgerald, director of music for the Columbus diocese, playing the organ during his third annual Improvised Meditations on the Stations of the Cross. Fitzgerald, who has directed the cathedral choir for nearly 10 years, will respond to each Station with a musical reflection. An award-winning master of improvisation, Fitzgerald was the only American invited to the 53rd Haarlem International Organ Improvisation Competition in the Netherlands in 2021. Email for more information. ( [email protected] )

Free concert to showcase violin soloist

Bach and Beethoven, along with Jean Sibelius, are on the program for the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra's winter concert, which will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1479 Morse Road. In addition to Bach's "Little" Fugue in G minor and Beethoven's Symphony No. 8, the orchestra will present the Sibelius Violin Concerto featuring soloist Ariane Sletner, who has performed throughout the U.S., Central America, South America and Europe. She is married to cellist Luis Biava, conductor of Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra and New Albany Symphony Orchestra, and she serves as concert master for the latter. The concert is free; donations are appreciated. ( metropolitanchamberorchestra.com )

Third Eye Blind coming to Alabama on ‘Summer Gods Tour’: How to get tickets

  • Updated: Feb. 12, 2024, 4:28 p.m. |
  • Published: Jan. 08, 2024, 3:38 p.m.

Third Eye Blind

Third Eye Blind has announced a summer 2024 tour that includes a stop in Alabama. (Courtesy photo)

Third Eye Blind , the rock band behind 1990s hits such as “Semi-Charmed Life,” “Graduate,” “Jumper” and “How’s It Going to Be,” returns to the Birmingham area this year on a “Summer Gods Tour.”

The band, fronted by Stephan Jenkins, is set to perform on July 28 at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in Pelham, with Yellowcard and A R I Z O N A . Tickets for the 6:30 p.m. show go on sale Friday, Jan. 12, at 10 a.m. CT via Live Nation/Ticketmaster . Prices are $29.75, $39.75, $59.75, $79.75, $99.75 and $109.75, plus service charges, according to promoter Live Nation.

Pre-sales start on Tuesday at 10 a.m. CT and run through Thursday at 10 p.m. CT, according to the ticket site .

The Pelham date is the only Alabama stop announced for Third Eye Blind’s tour, which starts on June 8 in Spokane, Washington, and ends Aug. 3 in Woodlands, Texas. Other Southern cities include Franklin, Tennessee (June 30, FirstBank Amphitheater); Charlotte, North Carolina (July 23, PNC Music Pavilion); Jacksonville, Florida (July 26, VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena); and Alpharetta, Georgia (July 27, Ameris Bank Amphitheatre).

“I have this sense that I am feeling the same way everybody else is — that we need a summer tour so badly, like more than ever,” Jenkins said on Monday via social media. “We need the lights, the noise, the heat and everybody up close to each other, singing as one. Can’t wait.”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Third Eye Blind (@thirdeyeblind)

Third Eye Blind has performed in Alabama several times over the years, dating back to a show in November 1998 at the former Five Points South Music Hall in Birmingham. (At the time, singer Jenkins told The Birmingham News that he regarded concerts as theatrical events and thought of himself as a kind of rock ‘n’ roll Marlon Brando.)

The band returned here for a headlining date at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in 2000, appeared at Gadsden’s Riverfest in 2014, headlined the “MoonPie Over Mobile” festivities for New Year’s Eve in 2022 and more. Most recently, Third Eye Blind performed in March 2023 at the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at Huntsville.

“I love keeping our old songs alive,” Jenkins said in a 2023 interview with AL.com’s Matt Wake, “and that makes me very happy. But the moment I’m not inspired by what I’m doing now I’ll quit.”

READ: The singer behind ‘90s rock’s greatest earworm is just getting started

At the time, Third Eye Blind was touring on a 2022 “Unplugged” album, which features acoustic versions of their hits and classics. Jenkins also said, however, that the band would perform some new, unreleased songs during last year’s tour.

“This latest stuff is more about opening up a groove and just kind of letting the vocal roll, let it roll. It’s more about very simple beats, a bassline and a vocal,” Jenkins told AL.com. “Less organic. And then after that, I really want to go with big guitars and just make an Oasis record.”

Third Eye Blind, formed in 1993, has seven studio albums to its credit, 1997-2021, along with live albums, compilations and EPs. The band’s self-titled debut in 1997 (which includes “Semi-Charmed Life”) sold more than 6 million copies, earning multi-platinum status from the Recording Industry Association of America.
