( Note: This list was accurate at press time; for the most up-to-date list of countries in the VWP, consult http://travel.state.gov/visa.) Even though a visa isn't necessary, in an effort to help U.S. officials check travelers against terror watch lists before they arrive at U.S. borders, visitors from VWP countries must register online through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) before boarding a plane or a boat to the U.S. Travelers must complete an electronic application providing basic personal and travel eligibility information. The Department of Homeland Security recommends filling out the form at least 3 days before traveling. Authorizations will be valid for up to 2 years or until the traveler's passport expires, whichever comes first. Currently, there is a US$14 fee for the online application. Existing ESTA registrations remain valid through their expiration dates. Note: Any passport issued on or after October 26, 2006, by a VWP country must be an e-Passport for VWP travelers to be eligible to enter the U.S. without a visa. Citizens of these nations also need to present a round-trip air or cruise ticket upon arrival. E-Passports contain computer chips capable of storing biometric information, such as the required digital photograph of the holder. If your passport doesn't have this feature, you can still travel without a visa if the valid passport was issued before October 26, 2005, and includes a machine-readable zone; or if the valid passport was issued between October 26, 2005, and October 25, 2006, and includes a digital photograph. For more information, go to http://travel.state.gov/visa . Canadian citizens may enter the United States without visas, but will need to show passports and proof of residence.

Citizens of all other countries must have (1) a valid passport that expires at least 6 months later than the scheduled end of their visit to the U.S.; and (2) a tourist visa.

Road Trip from Vancouver to Las Vegas

If you want to see the best of British Columbia and top it off with some of the most scenic mountains, forests, and deserts in the States, consider doing a road trip from Vancouver to Las Vegas - few itineraries can come even close in the variety department.

The 2,300 km road trip from Vancouver to Las Vegas takes around 23 hours to drive. Stops include Seattle, Portland, and Mammoth Lakes, and exploring nature at Lake Tahoe, Mount Rainier, and in Yosemite and Death Valley National Parks.

There's a lot to be seen on the way, so be sure to read until the very end to learn this route inside and out.

How far is Las Vegas from Vancouver and how long will the road trip take?

The road trip from Vancouver to Las Vegas covers around 2,300 km and takes just over 23 hours to drive before adding time for breaks and overnight stops, provided that you take a more scenic route along the Sierra Nevada.

You could make it to Vegas a lot quicker if you skip through California and speed through Nevada all the way to Las Vegas, but the issue is that Nevada's a huge state, and much of its northern stretch is pretty barren, especially compared to California's landscapes.

Clear water of Lake Tahoe with the snow capped mountains in the background on the California - Nevada border.

A few obstacles that might extend your travel time are Portland and Seattle – there's no good reason to pass up these beautiful cities, but the downside is that traffic here tends to get congested on weekdays and weekends alike.

Also worth keeping in mind is that Sierra Nevada may not be as easy to drive through in the winter.

You can definitely still do it during the winter season, but certain portions of the drive, especially on Highway 395, may or may not be closed off depending on the weather, further extending your drive.

Best road trip route from Vancouver to Las Vegas

The definitive road trip route from Vancouver to Las Vegas will take you through Washington, Oregon, and California before getting you to Southern Nevada. If you can, try to devote at least a couple of weeks to this drive to cover everything. there is to see

Road trip route from Vancouver to Las Vegas

Taking Highway 99 out of Vancouver, drive over the Fraser River before entering Washington and getting onto Interstate 5. Follow it through Seattle and right by Okanogan Wenatchee National Forest, then pass by Mt. Rainier and Olympic National Forest all the way to Portland.

From there, continue south between Williamette and Siuslaw National Forest before reaching Eugene. Once there, take Oregon Route 58 past Deschutes National Forest, then get on U.S. Route 97, following it along Crater Lake National Park and Fremont-Winema National Forest.

Just past Klamath Falls, briefly follow Oregon Route 39 to get into California and onto State Route 139. Follow it past a chain of scenic California forests, and get on Highway 395 just before Honey Lake.

Drive through Reno and Carson City, and pass Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park. Not long after driving through Inyo National Forest and Mammoth Lakes, you'll reach the city of Bishop.

Stick to the highway all the way to Kramer Junction, then head east to Barstow before taking Interstate 15 - follow this route past Mojave National Preserve and make your way into Las Vegas.

Best places to stop between Vancouver and Las Vegas

There's no way around the fact that you'll be stopping somewhere on the way from Vancouver to Las Vegas. Among the countless amazing resorts en route, these are some of the definite highlights:

Spend an unforgettable time in Reno

Although it's smaller than Seattle and Portland, Reno makes for a great place to stop since it's so close to some of the most scenic places in all of California. There are quite a few great hotels here, but Atlantis Casino Resort Spa is by far the swankiest midpoint hotel for this trip.

The Atlantis boasts an aesthetic and level of service well above its price range – featuring two swimming pools (the view from the “pool dome” is spectacular!) and the option to book a jacuzzi room, you'll have everything you need to cool off after a long day of driving or hiking.

Reno Arch in downtown Reno, Nevada

On top of that, you'll have access to a variety of spa services, including massages, saunas, steam rooms, and more. Once you're done for the day, you can have a meal at one of the 8 on-site restaurants, with options ranging from completely informal to outlandishly extravagant.

At its core, the hotel is quite cheap, provided that you don't overspend at the on-site casino. If you want to keep things cheaper and a bit more casual, consider spending the time with a video game in the Fun Center instead!

Check out the Strip in Las Vegas

If there's one place in the States where you can find stylish accommodation at a fairly reasonable price, it's Sin City. You could pick any random hotel along the Strip and have a great time, but Nevada's fanciest, prettiest, and most luxurious resort would be The Venetian .

To fully immerse you in its distinct European style, The Venetian takes things to the next level with an honest-to-God gondola ride. This, coupled with the amazing performance halls, makes this resort one of the best entertainment venues you can hope to find in Vegas,

Iconic casinos and hotels along the Las Vegas Strip and the Bellagio Fountain.

The interior goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome – from the beautiful bar and lobby to the 10 swimming pools and stylish rooms, there's no impulse this hotel can't satisfy. You don't even need to go out of your way to find a casino, as the on-site one is spectacular.

Multiple restaurants, a yoga area, rock climbing, and an incredible location on the Strip all amount to a fairly affordable stay. You'll definitely be paying extra for individual services, but if you're careful, you can come out of the experience with your wallet relatively unscathed.

A road trip of this magnitude is bound to have plenty of landmarks worth checking out, and you can certainly expect things to get scenic between Vancouver and Las Vegas. Here are some of the absolute must-sees along the way:

  • North Cascades National Park – Featuring everything from beginner-level trails to challenging, steep hikes, this is one of the definitive mountainous areas in Washington (and that's saying something!).
  • Seattle – One of the larger port cities in the States, Seattle's incredible architecture, Pacific atmosphere, and view of Mount Rainier are bound to leave an impression.
  • Mount Rainier National Park – Thanks to its combination of mountainside meadows and beautiful bodies of water, this is a must-see for anyone passing through Washington state.
  • Olympic National Park – This unique park combines mountains, woods, and beaches into an unforgettable stopover.
  • Portland –Oregon's largest city is a perfect addition to this scenic itinerary, courtesy of its reputation as one of the greenest cities in the States.
  • Oregon forest stretch – Incredible hiking and recreation spots, distinguished by their countless streams and small waterfalls.
  • Crater Lake National Park – This is one of Oregon's most unique parks, and the beautiful Crater Lake is among the deepest and most beautiful in the world.
  • Lava Beds National Monument – The eruptions of Medicine Lake Volcano are what give this area its distinctive aesthetic.
  • North California forests – A seemingly endless chain of green and a perfect introduction to what's in store for you further south in California.
  • Reno – Affectionately referred to as the “world's biggest little city”, Reno will give you a good taste of what you can expect from Vegas.
  • Carson City – The capital of Nevada also makes for a great pivot when exploring the Sierra Nevadas.
  • Lake Tahoe – A lake whose impossibly scenic surroundings make it perfect for both summer and winter recreation.
  • Yosemite National Park – One of the most popular parks in the States and for a good reason, Yosemite's canyons, meadows, and forests draw millions of visitors every year.
  • Inyo National Forest – This largely mountainous forest is made even more beautiful by the fact that you need to drive directly through it.
  • Mammoth Lakes – Rain or shine, this town by the Sierra Nevadas will woo you with its quirky charm and abundance of summer and wintertime activities.
  • Sierra National Forest – One of the first in a list of many forests along this route, the beautiful landscapes of this forest make it an ideal camping spot.
  • Death Valley National Park – Unbearably hot at its worst and impossibly scenic at its best, it's always a good idea to slot this park into your trip whenever possible.
  • Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area – The incredible red rock formations in this are the telltale sign you're approaching Las Vegas. You might need to make a reservation for a timed-entry slot, so check the official website before traveling.
  • Hoover Dam – One of the most popular attractions in the Nevada/Arizona area, the view from this historical dam is absolutely breathtaking.

Best time to go on a road trip from Vancouver to Las Vegas

The road trip from Vancouver to Las Vegas can be done no matter the season, but given the amount of ground the trip covers, it should come as no surprise that certain are best experienced during a very specific time of year.

For instance, with so many nature spots to check out along the way, you should do some research if you decide to travel in winter – lots of sections of the route's parks and forests aren't accessible when it's snowy, most notably Tioga Pass, which closes as early as November.

Summers in Las Vegas can be rather difficult, bordering on unbearable, especially for a native of Canada – with temperatures reaching above 100 degrees, July and August are not the best times to be braving the streets of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Nevada

With that said, the majority of Vegas' key attractions are casinos and entertainment venues. This means most of the things to do in Vegas are indoors, so the heat is less of a problem here than you might expect.

Still, if you want milder temperatures coupled with cheaper accommodation and festivities, springtime might be the best time for you to do the trip – temperatures in May shouldn't exceed 90 degrees, meaning you should be more comfortable taking the party outside.

Boarding was a sh!t show. JFK BOARDING was awful. The agent called three sections at a time Clogging the area then yelling at people to not block the walk way. How are you going to call delta one , premium select and comfort plus at once and the yell at highest paying passengers. Need to do a lot better and the flight attendants in the galley need to understand that their voices travel. They were talking about others and everyone in the cabin heard them

Uncomfortable seats on 14 hour flight. Mediocre food. On time and great crew.

MSP to Atlanta was much better than Atlanta to St. Kitts. Paid $180 each for myself and wife for Delta comfort from Atlanta to St. Kitts. Seats were more narrow and obviously old and worn out. Tailbone is killing me. Seat would not recline. Seats behind reclined and we were not an exit row or in front of an exit row. Entertainment did not work in that the movie jumped forward and back and there was no audio. The plug in the arm rest was loose. Flight attendant tried “resetting” the video for my seat but no good. She never checked back. Someone else near me had the same issue. Touch screen was unresponsive. No where near as comfortable as MSP to Atlanta flight. 3 plus hrs. flight time without the basic amenities and not even remotely close to comfortable but paid for Comfort plus. I will be very disappointed if I have the same on my return “Comfort Plus” flight St. Kitts to Atlanta. At the very least my wife and I should be refunded for round trip “Comfort Plus” charges. Please feel free to contact me directly for more details.

The pilot was excellent - he flew us around a storm and even though predicted it would be a bumpy ride - was able to avoid all turbulence and land us safely with only a 15 min delay. Kudos!

public website still broken for years randomly blocking browsers with privacy options active after loading a page maybe once. check-in on laptop was almost impossible but eventually randomly worked. had to print pass at airport since couldn't get back in to load digital pass on mobile firefox or chrome. red eye flight so smooth onboarding, plenty of room to spread out, easy offboarding. onboard wifi instructions mention vpn can cause problems connecting but fails to also mention private dns. no printed or built in menu list, seems weird to require personal device to point at qr code link for menu which does not even allow direct ordering. people with health condition risk related dietary restrictions trying to avoid for example cholesterol and sugar are left guessing what they can order either way without nutritional info highlights (cranberry juice was minute maid cocktail with as much suger as typical can of soda). tap to pay wasn't working and always seems sketchy to manually enter card info. good movie variety, so limited tv was okay.

Great experience overall. Check in at Austin was congested as they only have about 6 check in kiosks, one was broken, and there was a lot of Spring Break travelers.

The main person that was coordinating everything was a short white/light skin Spanish man and he was very rude. It honestly made me feel like it was everyone’s First day at work. His announcements were very not reasonable and they did not make sense. The stewardess on the flight that made the announcements she didn’t even know what she was talking about she sounded inebriated. There were no snacks or drinks on our flight there wasn’t even much turbulence. This flight was not enjoyable nor was it what a Delta flight should be and just this past week I flew with Delta 3 times.

Worst food I've ever seen on a plane. One flight attendant must have been going through a bad breakup, although the one who kept covering for her was excellent.

Great flight crew, easy boarding, delicious snacks and spacious seats. Love flying delta - worth the price.

The landing was bad and the hostess came two times and i was sleeping but when she served the person that nexts to me I woke up and she didn’t even asked me if I need any drink or snacks two times!!!!

Good flight. No I’m seat entertainment. But my phone worked just fine on the west jet app.

I had planned to watch the Westjet entertainment for the entire flight however, because the seat mounted outlets in our row did not work.

Not a bad flight but our priority tagged luggage was the very last to come down the carousel.

Plane had a flat tire, delayed boarding and takeoff but one in the air, smooth. Make sure you have downloaded the WJ app before you leave. When on board, you can watch movies or TV shows offered on the app, it passed the time very quickly.

Our recent flight from edmontown to kahalui was excellent. The service staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, funny and attentive. Thanks to all involved that made or travel such a pleasant experience and we hope to fly with west jet again soon

The flight was delayed and I missed boarding my 7 day cruise. I had to book a separate flight home

No real issues just wasnt able to hear / understand any announcements flight attendant was making but everything else was really good- ended up checking my carry on case for free which made deboarding quicker. I would fly West Jet for all my flights.

Seats were comfortable and leg room was good. Slight delay for boarding but nothing too bad. Would fly with them again.

Long lines to board with only two staff checking boarding passes!

They could Isaac's announced our gate at Atlanta. Whet we arrived at the gate he thought we were joking and we didn't board. The plane left without us

As is pretty much the norm with Air Canada now, we left late from the gate (45 minutes late). This is my 12th flight with AC in the last 12 months and 10 of those flights were either late or cancelled. AC essentially has a monopoly in Canada so they have carte blanche to charge exorbitant rates now and give poor service, with no repercussions.

A 2 hour delay because they couldn’t fit some oversized cargo in the small hold doors of an Embraer! Surely they know the sizes before attempting to load it?

It took 5 hour to get a crew to D Ice the plan. We had to sit on the runway for 5 hrs. in Calgary. It snows most of the winter. No proactive plan. In addition, after 3 calls to customer service they couldn't figure out how to have my wife and myself sit together on her birthday weekend. Everybody kept passing the buck. No decision from customer service, luggage drop off or check in team. The experience was a complete mess! I don't think we'll ever fly on this airline again.

When we got to the airport for our flight from Chicago to Montreal which was scheduled for 2.00 p.m. they had no record of it and booked us on a flight at 3.30 very disappointing . We also had to pay 50.00 each for a seat. All things considered ,I will never book thru Kayak again. Next time I will only book directly thru Air Canada no second party booking Sue

-kayak did not give me advanced notice to my e-mail for my flight and I had major trouble finding the code to access Air Canada’s site because you did not provide it to me and incompetent Air Canada did not have any access based on my name alone. WTF -The flight was delayed twice. -They moved the boarding area -They said I would give free checked baggage because the plane was full and they charged me over $30 -They didn’t get my luggage on to the plane and left without it and I’m heading to a cruise ship. -I have lost one FULL day of my limited holiday and had to cancel scheduled events because my luggage did not get on the plane (even though the plane was delayed). -The “wheresmyluggage.com site is a total incompetent disaster that caused additional stress. -I will be sharing this experience

Plane was a Rouge vacation flyer for some reason. No legroom and entertainment. People were desperately looking for USB ports and such. And then there is this notorious and unsolved space problem where not all carry-on fits in the cabin….

The wifi I paid for did not work. The seats are tight.

There were no free snacks…little pretzel bag or cookies like we had on our flight out.

They did not have any meal options left on the menu. Only snacks.

Of our SIX flights in my travel group, five were delayed, and all (except possibly one) were just company screwups. One traveler had her CARRY ON baggage put on another flight because Air Canada could not properly do "weight and Balance". Bags missing for a day. Another traveler never made it. Then, (humor here) the flagship airline of the socialist country has NOTHING FOR FREE on board. Expect to pay for pretzels, folks. How's that socialism working out for ya, aye? I might book air Canada in the future if I have a meeting that I REALLY want to MISS!

Food selection is very poor and sears are very uncomfortable.

Flight was 3 hrs late and another 2 hrs wait for baggage to arrive on carousel and a $7.00 food voucher that arrived as we were boarding our flight.

Seat rows so close together no one dares to put their seats back. Knees pressed against the seat in front, had to find a position putting my legs under the seat in front. But for 6 hours keeping that one position was ridiculous. All savings on the purchase price are taken back through charge backs for luggage $200 each way, Seat selection $44 per seat or you are seated by a computer randomly. Wife sat 5 rows away. Would avoid Flair in the future

The flight was safe (priority). Everything else is low-cost: too hard, delays, mediocre boarding, cost for carry-on and checked luggage.

Flair flight was 4 hours late due to not having a crew and the plane was filthy. Just water service Terrible experience flight 1513

Flair did not notify you when they changed gate number!

Can't be happy with a 5 hour delay. Only given $10 voucher for food and still EVERYTHING was an upcharge during the flight.

TThe first time I have ever flown with flare and both ways sucked

There was no entertainment There was no food or beverage service , not even a glass of water The plane door could not be opened upon arrival

I try to buy water the cabin crews told me I had to wait for them to come around with the trolley I waited over 2 hours !!!!! Literally 2 hours I was so thirsty .

The flight was canceled. We only found out at the airport. We had to book another flight which cost us more then the whole trip booked through Kayak. Lynx took our email and was supposed to write us with an alternate flight. We never received an email. They talked about reimbursement which was to be explained in the email (which we never received).

The online system for Lynx air to pay for additional baggage is not satisfactory. I was charged 100+$ for my suitcase when I tried to explain that the online payment was not functional using the app and showed screenshots of the same. In the end I gave up and paid and went ahead.

No snacks, just water.... could have been better. The actual flight was good.

Flight delayed by 4 hours but no communication. With passengers until after the posted departure time became apparent the flight was not going to board even close to on time.

Flight was sent canceled. The absolute most useless staff I have ever witnessed. Utterly careless - literally could not care less. 100% never using this airline again.

Poor communication at the check in counter and boarding gates.

Other then the screaming baby the flight was fine, nothing special

Check in experience was smooth, and the flight attendants were courteous and friendly. Very positive experience overall, thank you all!

Flight arrived late but other than that everything else okay

Great price for a new plane. Only offered water which we knew.

Self-Service for Airport Security? It’s Happening in Las Vegas.

At security lanes at Harry Reid International Airport, travelers with PreCheck clearance can test a new self-service screening process with remote T.S.A. agents and video monitors.

Two conveyor belts at an airport are empty but ready to carry air passengers’ personal belongs through security.

By Christine Chung

As most air travelers can attest, the experience at an airport’s security checkpoint can be far from serene. There are many rules — often shouted by Transportation Security Administration officers — about what you can bring with you, how to array your belongings and where to stand. Lines can be painfully long and anxieties sky high. And throughout the process, there are security officers.

But at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, a new kind of security screening , unveiled by the T.S.A. on Wednesday, is led by the passenger themselves.

The system, which uses video monitors, facial recognition software and body scanners, is not about shaving time off the travel journey, but about improving the overall passenger experience, said Christina Peach, a deputy assistant administrator for requirements and capabilities at the T.S.A.

“Individuals want to be able to complete the screening process at their own pace and with minimal interaction with our officers,” she said.

The new pilot program officially opens to the public on March 11. Here’s what to know.

Where is it and who can use it?

The self-service screening process, which is only available for travelers with T.S.A. PreCheck clearance, will be available at two security lanes within the “Innovation Checkpoint” at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. (The airport tests emerging technologies and new processes at six “Innovation Checkpoint” lanes.)

Traditional security screening will continue to be available for passengers.

How does the screening work?

As a traveler approaches the security lanes, a screen will display instructions about how to arrange personal belongings in bins and what possessions to remove (electronics and belts, for example). With a camera feature on a small tablet, facial recognition technology will be used first to verify your identity.

Then, you’ll go to a divestment station, the area by the conveyor belt where you drop your belongings and put them in a bin. There are two stations per lane, allowing two passengers to use the lane simultaneously. Video monitors at each station will play step-by-step instructions. The aim is to get one bin per passenger, Ms. Peach said.

You’ll push your bin to the conveyor belt, which then moves the bin to be scanned. After this, you will step through a body scanner that resembles a glass box.

If a bin is flagged, it is routed down a different path and a T.S.A. officer will conduct a search.

Once you collect your bag, you can leave the empty bin and it will move automatically back to the stack.

Video player loading

Will T.S.A. officers be nearby?

T.S.A. personnel will still be on hand, but not as many of them will be manning the screening lanes. On any given day, there are usually between 10 to 15 officers working at the Innovation Checkpoint’s six lanes, Ms. Peach said.

Now, some can be remote. Passengers who need extra help can push a button to speak to an officer by video monitor, and officers will still handle security pat-downs and extra bag checks.

How long does the screening take?

It will vary, based on the individual passenger’s pace, Ms. Peach said.

When does the pilot end? Will it move to other airports?

The initial pilot is expected to run for several months. Ms. Peach stressed that it’s a prototype and that the agency will be collecting data and passenger feedback.

Some elements of the system, however, may eventually trickle out to checkpoints across the country, she said.

Will the future of security screening be one without any T.S.A. officers physically present?

T.S.A. officers will always be working at security checkpoints, Ms. Peach said, either standing by the passengers or working in remote screening locations.

“The officers are their most valuable assets,” she said of the government agency. “It really is having the officer as a part of the system, even if they’re maybe not as visible.”

Chandelier bars and old-school kitsch: the best places to stay in Las Vegas

The only place in the world where you can stroll from an Egyptian pyramid to the Statue of Liberty in under 15 minutes, Las Vegas doesn’t do things by halves — and it should come as no surprise that it’s also home to some of the flashiest resorts on the planet.

The range of hotels in Las Vegas is mind-boggling, from national landmarks that dominate the skyline with more than 5,000 rooms, typically near the Strip’s neon signs, street performers, slot machines and rock stars, to chic boltholes tucked far from the crowds. Downtown Las Vegas, which includes Fremont Street, is about a 20-minute drive from The Strip, offering travellers everything from less-gimmicky, lower-stakes gambling and authentic dive bars to unbeatable opportunities for people watching.

1. The Conrad at Resorts World

Best for: food adventures Resorts World is one of the newest mega casinos to open on the Strip, with some 3,500 rooms spread between three Hilton properties. The Conrad is the mid-range option of the bunch, offering the most amenities for the price tag. The palatial, modern rooms, most with sweeping views over the city lights, are secondary only to the unique dining on offer here. Singapore hawker-style Famous Foods offers the best kuey teow (stir-fried rice noodles) and roti canai (Indian flatbread dish) stalls this side of Malaysia, alongside Texas barbecue and Nashville hot chicken spots. For splashier dining, options include Wally’s for California cuisine paired with an epic 3,000-strong wine list, and chef Nicole Brisson’s lauded Italian dishes at Brezza. Rooms from $167 (£137).

2. The Cosmopolitan

Best for: sophisticated glamour Step into The Cosmopolitan, in the middle of the Strip, and you’ll feel like a movie star. Front and centre is the three-level Chandelier Bar, which sits inside an enormous chandelier comprised of over two million crystals, and the Marquee Nightclub and Dayclub, which hosts some of the best DJs in town. Throughout the complex, you can find innovative works, hidden speakeasies and other visual surprises, like the transforming digital art columns in the lobby. Rooms are a cut above Vegas norms, too, with bold patterned fabrics and the only balconies on the Strip. Rooms from $120 (£98).

3. The LINQ Hotel + Experience

Best for: budget travellers This modern resort is on the busiest part of the Strip and is a prime choice for those preferring to spend their dollars on all that Sin City has to offer. Perks include a casino, an adults-only party pool with a live DJ, and the 550ft High Roller, the highest observation wheel in the world. Rooms mirror the young and fun crowd here, with loud, 1980s art on the walls and comfortable platform beds. Dining is budget-orientated and includes Gordon Ramsay’s Fish & Chips. The ubiquitous sparkle in communal areas is a constant reminder of being in the heart of Vegas. Rooms from $25 (£20).

hotel bedroom

4.   NoMad Las Vegas

Best for: introverts This 293-room boutique hotel atop the Park MGM mega resort feels like a secret hideaway. There are velvet- and mahogany-swathed corners that are perfect for some quiet time with a book, as well as private cabanas at a Marrakech-style swimming pool and roulette wheels at a Tiffany glass-covered gaming salon. The rooms here are decidedly European, with a collection of sophisticated art on the walls, steamer trunk mini bars and Carrara marble bathrooms with pedestal bathtubs. The Strip is on the doorstep, as are myriad dining options, such as chef Roy Choi’s fun Korean food at Best Friend. Rooms from $155 (£127).

5.   MGM Grand

Best for: party animals This resort is like its own city, with over 5,000 rooms, a massive casino, a six-acre swimming pool area and ever-evolving restaurant, bar and entertainment options. While the rooms won’t win any creativity awards, they come in a vast array of options and all are comfortable, spacious and perfect for some much needed downtime from the entertainment overload. Should you wish to explore beyond the hotel, the location at the southern end of the Strip means you needn’t go far to experience the colourful boulevard — hop on the Las Vegas Monorail to be zipped to its other attractions. Rooms from $59 (£47).

6.   Wynn Las Vegas

Best for: luxury Walking into the world of Wynn is a little like when Dorothy reaches Oz and everything turns technicolour. The grounds include a flower-filled atrium, a number of cocktail bars with creations by maestro mixologist Mariena Mercer Boarini and the Strip’s only golf course, a par-70 Championship-level dazzler. Every room has floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the city’s twinkling lights and sizes start from an enormous 640sq ft. Dine at Delilah, a Gatsby-esque supper club where you might spot celebrities chatting over Wagyu beef or watch an animatronic frog singing Sinatra. Rooms from $299 (£245).

bar

7. Circa Resort & Casino

Best for: sports-lovers Opened in 2020, Circa is the first new resort in Downtown Las Vegas since 1980. It offers an adults-only experience where the pleasures of poker and gambling on sports are the raison d’etre. Stadium Swim, a six-pool complex with capacity for up to 4,000 people, is dominated by a 143ft-high screen that shows big games. There are plenty of non-sporty amenities, too, including an open-air lounge on the 60th floor with breathtaking views of the city. The two-storey-high neon sign of kicking cowgirl Vegas Vickie has even been restored recently and welcomes all. Rooms from $139 (£114).

8. El Cortez Hotel & Casino

Best for: old-school kitsch Off famous Fremont Street, the birthplace of Las Vegas gambling, this 1941 time capsule is the only casino to make it onto Vegas’s list of historic places. Wandering here is like stepping through a portal to the past. Peruse photos of old mobsters, Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack at the Parlour Bar or enjoy prime rib at Siegel’s 1941 restaurant. There’s no pool or flashy sights, and rooms are unsurprisingly old fashioned, b   s quiet and well placed for exploring some of the liveliest budget casinos, dive bars and street scenes Vegas has to offer. Rooms from $39 (£30).

9.   Four Seasons

Best for: romance A serene sanctuary, this elegant hotel is on five upper floors of the gleaming Mandalay Bay Resort at the southern end of the Strip. Even the standard art deco rooms here have floor-to-ceiling views, many of the desert rather than city, and start at a huge 500sq ft. There’s no party at the oasis-like, guests-only pool, and you can get a massage or spa treatment al fresco or in your cabana. Enjoy one of Vegas’s best breakfasts at Mediterranean-inspired Veranda, which has celebrity regulars. Guests also have access to the bolder Mandalay Bay facilities if they crave more action. Rooms from $275 (£225).

TSA unveils first self-screening security lane at Las Vegas airport

Precheck passengers can try the new technology in its testing phase at harry reid international.

travelling to las vegas from canada

LAS VEGAS — The Transportation Security Administration unveiled the country’s first self-service screening system Wednesday at Harry Reid International Airport. Starting Monday, PreCheck passengers can participate in the pilot program designed to modernize checkpoints and give travelers more autonomy.

During the morning demonstration at the Las Vegas airport, TSA officials compared the new program to self-checkout lanes at the supermarket. Instead of TSA officers ushering passengers through the two-step process, travelers will scan their own bags and themselves. This will allow them to set their own pace and minimize their interactions with TSA employees.

The agency’s staff members will still check IDs and oversee secondary screenings of bags and pat-downs of passengers suspected of carrying banned items.

Officials said the objective is not to accelerate screenings but to improve the passenger experience.

“We would love it if this ultimately speeds things up, but this is not the primary purpose at this point,” said John Fortune, the Department of Homeland Security’s Screening at Speed program manager. “It’s primarily to reduce the officer burden at the checkpoint and make this a more pleasant, passenger-friendly experience.”

How self-screening security works

The new system occupies two lanes at the Innovation Checkpoint in Terminal 3, a real-life lab where the agency tests new security technology. The checkpoint also handles regular PreCheck passengers, who will be welcome to try out the new procedure from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily. TSA might also invite passengers at other checkpoints to participate in the program. Children younger than 12 and travelers who need special assistance must use the standard lanes.

The self-service screening system, which evolved from concept to reality in two years, combines technological components that passengers might recognize, such as CT scanners. However, travelers will need to learn a few new steps — and break some habits they’ve developed at other airport checkpoints.

“The traveling public has not seen this before,” Fortune said. “They’ve not experienced what it’s like to go through a checkpoint like this.”

On the morning of the big reveal, “passengers” (really TSA employees) demonstrated the self-service screening process. The volunteers stepped up to one of the six stations and followed the instructions displayed on a screen. A “Need Help?” button on the bottom left of the screen connected to a live video of an officer who was ready to provide answers.

At one station, a volunteer placed all of his items — roller bag, belt and wallet — in one bin, a change from current procedures requiring passengers to divvy up their personal belongings among multiple trays. He added a lightweight jacket to the pile, a reversal of PreCheck procedures. He pushed the bin onto the moving belt and proceeded to the in-person screener.

A TSA officer ushered passengers into a large glass box. An avatar provided guidance. Body parts highlighted in green were the correct position; red sections needed adjustments. Arrows and outlines helped achieve the correct stance: arms loosely resting at your side, feet slightly apart.

If the machine detects a suspicious object, a red arrow will appear, sending the person back out to divest. The passenger will place the object in a bin and try again — and again, if necessary. It took one volunteer several tries.

“Is it my watch?” she asked. It wasn’t, and she was eventually cleared to proceed.

“Have a good flight,” a display read alongside a cartoon image of a plane.

Meanwhile, the bins bobbing along the track will take one of three routes:

  • Carry-ons deemed copacetic will continue onward, where passengers can claim their belongings and continue on their way.
  • If the machine detects a questionable item , such as a liquid greater than 3.4 ounces , the bin will detour to an officer who will hand-search the bag. One big difference from current procedure: The officer will not have to carry any heavy items to a separate screening area and risk injury.
  • The third scenario involves highly dangerous objects, such as weapons. The screener will divert the suspicious bag to a locked box, out of the passenger’s reach.

In another change from current protocol, passengers do not have to return the bin to the stack. The tray will return itself, but only if it’s empty, a feature that will hopefully reduce the number of public announcements seeking the owner of a forgotten laptop or wallet.

Contactless technology is growing

The self-service security system in Las Vegas is only a prototype, but it’s part of a trend of new contactless technology at airports. It might never advance beyond the Innovation Checkpoint, or it could expand to other airports, following the same journey as Credential Authentication Technology (ID only at security checkpoints; no boarding pass required) and facial recognition (about 50 airports so far).

TSA officials said the test phase could last from a few months to a year. During this time, the agency will collect passenger data and feedback and fix any glitches.

“We’re expecting there to be some challenges. The question is: How easy will those challenges be to resolve?” Fortune said. “It can be an iterative process where we hopefully get a system that is seamless enough that it could be rolled out to the traveling public.”

Fortune said more innovations and advances could be destined for Vegas. Passengers could help test shoe scanners and flat panels with overhead screening capabilities. (Picture an E-ZPass toll system for people.) He hopes to try out wands that will replace pat-downs and, in a futuristic flight of fancy, structures that will compress the self-service technology into individual pods . “That’s two or three years away,” he said of the latter invention.

Biometrics are appearing at more airports. Delta Air Lines has been deploying a facial recognition program called Delta Digital ID at airports including Atlanta, Detroit and Los Angeles, and at LaGuardia and JFK in New York City. Instead of pulling out documents, eligible members of the airline’s SkyMiles loyalty program can simply look into the camera for bag drop and security.

Last week, United Airlines announced that it was premiering “ touchless ” identity verification at airport checkpoints in Chicago and Los Angeles for PreCheck members. American Airlines offers its own version at Reagan National Airport.

10 Best Las Vegas Casinos, According to Travel Experts

Try your luck at one of these Las Vegas casinos, both on and off the Strip.

Matt McClain/The Washington Post via Getty Images

Las Vegas is home to dozens of dazzling casinos that attract millions of travelers hoping to win big. But with so many options, narrowing down the crème de la crème of casinos is no easy feat. In addition to offering a wide array of slots and table games, the best casinos are those that go out of their way to make guests feel like ultimate VIPs, explains Fora travel advisor Celine Mahdavi . For example, she says, “They should be greeted immediately once they are seated at a table or machine.”

Addie Bell, founder and CEO of Jetset & Travel , an independent affiliate of SmartFlyer , echoes these sentiments, telling Travel + Leisure , “Friendly and attentive service is paramount.” Similarly, choosing a casino “that instills comfort and confidence during your gaming experience” is a must.

With this in mind, we’ve rounded up the 10 best casinos in Las Vegas, both on and off the famous Strip.

Wynn Las Vegas

Courtesy of Wynn Las Vegas

Spanning approximately 110,000 square feet, the casino at Wynn Las Vegas comes highly recommended by Mahdavi. “From high-limit salons to its variety of 1,800-plus slot machines, this casino has so much to offer players,” she says. Additionally, “Guests can enjoy a state-of-the-art race and sportsbook as well as poolside gaming.” The stylish decor is equally spectacular, with beautiful blooms and artwork setting the scene for an upscale gaming experience. Beyond the casino, this World’s Best Award-winning hotel offers world-class entertainment and nightlife , designer shops, an array of gourmet eats (including Wing Lei, the first Chinese restaurant in the U.S. to earn a Michelin star), and more than 2,700 luxury rooms and suites.

Encore Las Vegas

Adjacent to the Wynn Las Vegas, Encore Las Vegas has its own casino spanning more than 70,000 square feet. The elegant space features 95 table games and 860 slot machines. High rollers can head up to the Sky Casino for sweeping views of the Sin City skyline — keep in mind you’ll need at least $300,000 to bet here. Another World’s Best Award winner, this expansive property also houses 2,000-plus rooms and suites (each one more than 700 square feet). For the ultimate splurge, Bell recommends staying in a Tower Suite, which comes with “private entrances and dedicated concierges who deliver exceptional experiences.”

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

With floor-to-ceiling glass walls and postcard-worthy Strip views, the 100,000-square-foot casino at this swanky World's Best Award-winning hotel is a favorite of Las Vegas local Stefanie Van Aken of RSMLVTravel , an independent affiliate of Montecito Village Travel . She describes the vibes here as “always good and exciting.” She adds, “You can walk through the casino floor and feel like you are a part of the action.” In addition to classic table games, there are more than 1,000 slot machines, including an exclusive High Limit Slot Lounge. The sleek BetMGM Sportsbook & Lounge, complete with its own sports bar, massive LED video walls, dozens of TVs, and 20-plus poker machines, is also noteworthy. Don’t leave without grabbing a drink at the always-buzzing, multistory Chandelier, a bar with prime people-watching. Before or after gambling, have a bite at one of the on-site restaurants. Per Van Atken, the hotel offers “a great dining program, with Zuma, STK, and the new La Petite Maison being the livelier of the group.”

Bellagio Las Vegas

According to Fora travel advisor Jane Henzerling , the Bellagio Las Vegas casino is "elegance personified." She notes, "There's usually a good range of table minimums, the craps table is almost always lively, and if you're near the Petrossian Bar, you can hear strains of the wonderful piano music there."

Meanwhile, Mahdavi says, "The casino has one of the most opulent baccarat areas that Las Vegas has to offer, and the Club Privé high-limit lounge offers guests a rich whiskey program and fine cigar selection for the ultimate experience."

The World's Best Award-winning property is also renowned for its entertainment — including "O" by Cirque du Soleil, which Van Atken describes as "the grand dame of shows in Vegas" — and restaurant offerings. "One of my favorite things to share with my clients is dinner at Picasso or Prime Steakhouse and then a glass of wine or dessert on the patio overlooking the fountain," says the travel pro.

Fontainebleau Las Vegas

Located on the north end of the Strip, the ultra-luxe Fontainebleau Las Vegas finally opened its doors this past December after years of construction. The stunning casino, which offers 42-foot-high ceilings and lots of natural light — a welcome change from the city’s many dimly lit spaces — spans a whopping 150,000 square feet. In addition to table games and a swanky sportsbook (a.k.a. The Tavern), there are 105 high-limit slots and video poker machines. At the center of it all is a massive chandelier comprising 1,200 bowtie-shaped glass columns. This isn’t the only work of art that’s sure to wow: Van Atken is quick to highlight the resort’s “impressive and interesting” collection of works, including specially curated murals and sculptures.

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas

Courtesy of The Venetian

“The Venetian is home to one of my favorite casino bars — a shiny round confection in the center of the action with great video poker machines and some of the friendliest bartenders on the Strip,” says Henzerling. But that’s not all: The 200,000-plus-square-foot casino also houses a poker room, a 15,000-square-foot high-limits gaming lounge, 225 table games, and a sportsbook. And while you may be tempted to spend the majority of your time here trying your luck in the casino, don’t sleep on the resort’s other amenities, including three expansive pool decks, 40-plus restaurants, eight distinct nightlife venues, and the 134,000-square-foot Canyon Ranch spa, where treatments run the gamut from candle massages to reiki.

Ellis Island

“If you want to get off the Strip and find a place with cheap tables, Ellis Island is a fun choice,” says Henzerling of this casino-slash-hotel-slash brewery. Dating back to 1968, this family-owned haunt — one of the few casinos actually frequented by locals — is just a block away from the glimmering Strip, yet its intimate, old-school vibes make it feel worlds away. “There's always a hilarious scene at the $5 blackjack tables, and the 24-hour cafe serves up delicious breakfasts 24 hours a day,” says Henzerling. Take your pick of 250 slots; alternatively, try your luck at table games like blackjack, roulette, or craps.

Durango Casino & Resort

About 10 miles off the Strip, Durango Casino & Resort made its debut in December 2023. The $750 million property features 83,000 square feet of gaming space — with more than 2,300 slots and 60-plus table games — as well as a race and sportsbook. Durango also boasts a 25,000-square-foot food and drink hall, aptly called Eat Your Heart Out, which is home to an outpost of New York City’s beloved Prince Street Pizza. In addition to the 11 dining outlets here, there are seven bars, restaurants, and lounges, along with 209 contemporary rooms and suites that provide a calming reprieve from the bustling casino.

Aria Resort & Casino

The 150,000-square-foot casino at this World’s Best Award-winning resort features a 24-table poker room, approximately 2,000 slots, and an abundance of table games ranging from roulette and baccarat to Ultimate Texas Hold 'Em. Go big or go home at the High Limit Lounge, where you can sip cocktails while playing. Afterward, retreat to the 80,000-square-foot spa for some pampering, soak up the sun by one of the sparkling swimming pools, or sit down for a celebratory meal at one of several popular eateries like Carbone or Catch. For the ultimate splurge, reserve one of the highly coveted Sky Suites, which offer VIP perks like a private concierge plus exclusive access to a private lounge and pool.

Caesars Palace

With 185 table games, 1,324 slots, a sportsbook, and a 4,500-square-foot poker room, the casino at Caesars Palace clocks in at 124,000 square feet. Much like the rest of the property, it features striking Roman-inspired design elements, including a domed ceiling with a jaw-dropping crystal chandelier and a 15-foot-tall statue of Augustus Caesar at the front entrance. Additional resort highlights include 10 bars and lounges, 22 restaurants, seven pools, a 50,000-square-foot spa complete with three Roman baths, dozens of shops, the massive Colosseum theater, and more than 3,500 rooms and suites.

Top 5 airlines serving from las vegas to montreal.

We requested 2 wheel chairs upon arrival. On board an attendant told us to remain in our seats until everyone was off the plane. we were in row 11 and thought we would be off early. After all were off, a different attendant said we should leave, and that the chairs were gone. One was available for my friend who had just spent 9 days in hospital but I had to walk quite some distance. Eventually a cart arrived to take us the rest of the way. This was over an hour after our arrival. The staff at the terminal did their best to help us but if we had been allowed off with the other passengers, our ride home would have been an hour earlier.

Our flight experience was great! Flight staff was funny and offered great service. Made record flying time coming home from Vegas after having to wait for planes on the tarmac because of high winds

Seats can use more cushioning, it felt very hard. The snack option could be better

Over all good. I had some issues with trying to buy my seat. The Westjet system kept trying to charge my credit card, without getting the seat. In the end after 5 times being charged, I got my seat.

I did not have a meal or entertainment, but flight was comfortable, beverage service was quick, crew was very helpful and pleasant. And a very smooth flight overall.

Flight was on time! Downloaded the entertainment app in advance - worked well

I liked when we actually were allowed to get on the airplane back to Edmonton… What could’ve been better well, not having our flight be delayed five hours could’ve been better… And then canceling our flight from Edmonton to Toronto, and then rescheduling us to fly from Honolulu to Edmonton -Edmonton to Vancouver, and then Vancouver to Toronto with a 12 hour layover in Edmonton pretty much was hell… Total travel time to get home 38 hours that’s really what could’ve been better. The two gate attendants for WestJet in Honolulu told us to come back to the gate to try to make other arrangements because they had to board the Calgary flight 1st and they didn’t have time to talk to me but by the time I came back when they told us to they said you should’ve come earlier to make these arrangements everyone else already changed their flights… We found out later that 30 people did not get on the 2:30 AM Edmonton flight. They ended up getting on the midnight flight to Calgary and making other arrangements to Toronto and so forth which we could’ve taken advantage of that if they had allowed us to when I initially had went up and approached the two gate attendance one of their names was Denise. One of the kindest WestJet employee was the one who received us in Edmonton, who felt so bad about the entire situation she got us for more meal vouchers and flew us first class from Vancouver to Toronto. In Honolulu they had given us two vouchers to use for dinner and they weren’t valid outside of Canada so we had purchased a meal and they were completely useless… But nowhere did it say that they could only be used in Canada So when we received more food vouchers in Edmonton, all of them did end up working in Canada, but it was just so convoluted. Overall, we have traveled to other countries even going as far as Africa… and that experience was far easier than flying to Hawaii from Canada I cannot believe any of this happened and how inconvenient it was We arrived, exhausted after 38 hours of travel, and could not even go to work on Monday. I look forward to hearing from KAYAK or from WestJet for some sort of compensation over the situation.

Delta gave out earbuds for in-flight entertainment, which was nice. But the legroom seems to decrease every year.

Flight late …60 minutes No food No wifi No entertainment system A disaster!!!

Considering that our flight was changed to a day ahead and we were not properly notified, we showed up a day late and had a HORRENDOUS experience trying to figure out what happened and how to get home back to Canada from New York. After spending hours on hold with Westjet and Kayak, we came to the conclusion that we had to BUY new tickets to get home that cost DOUBLE what we originally paid. Not to mention a last seconr hotel room that cost $500 CAD for ONE night because of WestJets mistake. After meals and final costs, we had to reach out to our families for nearly $2000 CAD to get home. How was our return flight? We didnt get to take it...absolutely defeated and furious with both Kayak and WestJet who kept bouncing us back and forth on the phones with NO resolution. Unacceptable. We will be looking into compensation over this.

Aircraft has better leg room than any of United's larger planes. We had requested mobility assistance for this and related flights. United's response to all was superb.

No snacks served! Seating in the kast row in uncomfortable.

Flight was fine, it was delayed but only 30 minutes, staff were efficient, lady making announcements at LAX was really hard to understand but the rest were great.

The male air hostess was rude and didn’t even offer me a drink. Poor customer service!

We left really late. Things that were out if anybody’s control I guess.

I contacted both carriers months beforehand to change the cabin (booked in April) but to no avail (united asked to contact Swiss since it was their equipment, Swiss told me to reach out to united). So yeah… My seat was pretty worn down, legroom on 27K was more than enough, but still economy seating so, getting to know your neighbours was easy. According to ground staff, the flight was massively overbooked- and this showed. I ordered a gluten free meal beforehand (which was honoured) but for breakfast got a bread roll and croissant 🤷🏼‍♂️ The connection itself is great. Leaving SFO late PM to arrive at ZRH in the afternoon makes it easier to get re adjusted again. However, and since I’ve flown this connection a couple of times in the past, I will rather deal with one carrier only and include a layover on the east coast.

Nothing bad to say about the actual crew or airline. It was nice to have a complimentary FULL can of soda, as well as a snack. Blankets and earbuds were also provided at no cost for this red eye flight. I especially appreciated the free WiFi and movie selection with the Bluetooth option. It helped the flight pass more quickly. No matter who you fly, boarding and disembarking are always SUCH a pain. As I mentioned, this is on the passengers and not the crew!!

When I purchased my ticket, I assumed it was a real ticket, as in, when I go to the airport I am guaranteed a seat. Not so. When I checked in 24 hours ahead of time, I noticed I did not have a seat assignment and my boarding pass said "Standby." I was informed at the gate that the flight was full and I may not get on that plane. I don't recall being offered the option of selecting a seat when I checked in, and apparently, for the honor of pre-selecting a seat, you must pay an additional fee. So, a ticket really isn't a ticket, it's actually a lottery and if you're lucky, you may make it on board - or you can choose to be extorted for extra money for the guarantee of a seat. It's like making reservations with the Godfather - one payment isn't enough, there's always another bribe you have to make. After the first few zones were called and I hadn't been informed of my status, I went to the gate agent and they handed me a boarding pass, for the very last row near the restrooms, in between two very large people. Apparently that was my punishment for not purchasing a seat ahead of time. Airline service has not only gotten more expensive, but the return on your money has shrunk and there is little regard for the passengers. This feels like a racket. I am not pleased, as you may have gathered.

It was your usual flight. Nothing exemplary. Due to turbulance, the drinks were served 20 min before landing. Meh.

My only concern was that we were on the tarmac for so long and weren’t told what was happening. It turned out that the system needed to be restarted but it would have been nice to know earlier.

The 2 hour delay was frustrating but our crew did a great job getting us out quickly and keeping communication especially with the people who had connecting flights

Got a much appreciated surprise upgrade to an exit row and the crew was very friendly and helpful.

The only problem experienced was a ground stop in Chicago due to weather. But the crew handled everything professionally. They prioritized rebooking those passengers who had connecting flights and then deplaning the other passengers. When the hold was lifted, they efficiently re-boarded all the passengers so that we could depart before our departure limit expired.

The staff was unprofessional and didn’t communicate very well. The boarding process was very disheveled, potentially due to a power outage the previous day but there was no contingency plan to properly get passengers boarded the following day. Once boarded the aircraft stayed on the tarmac for over 45 minutes due to high winds. The communication was sporadic but an announcement was finally made an additional 30 minutes later that the flight was cancelled but we couldn’t get off the plane. Prior to deplaning one of the gate agents came on the plane and made an announcement for everyone to pickup their checked bags and take a card to rebook a new reservation because they didn’t have adequate staff. Flights were missed, passengers went to different airports and there was little to no assistance from AA.

Boarding time was easy & quick. Crew was excellent. In-flight entertainment was great/easy. Seats are too small and not enough room between rows: felt like a sardine/very cramped.

Absolutely filthy flight and not equipped for a trans US

Everything was on time; the flight attendants and the gate personnel were very pleasant and helpful.

I had trouble finding a boarding pass because I had an hour between Flights and American did not see my flight I believe because I was ticketed through KAYAK. I did not have enough time to go to the desk before boarding so I went to the desk and told them while I was boarding and they had a boarding pass for me within three minutes. Nice. I paid extra to have more legroom and it is definitely worth it for a six hour flight. I would’ve paid for a decent dinner, but they didn’t offer anything but a snack box —not good for six hours.

I have not found it to be easy to set up on Wi-Fi with American Airlines. I don’t know if it is me or poor instructions.

You cancelled my flight by email then made it very difficult to get in contact with you. Then put me in a flight with a long layover in Mexico returning to the wrong airport in uk. Mind blowing my stressful. I missed see my grand dad because of you.

Flight delayed two and a half hours from Toronto to Calgary Philadelphia to Toronto we were listed as standbys !!! Very concerning

Flight delayed at the last moment Hill next day and havé to drag at Hotel at our cost and bec day was again delayed 4 Times because no crée and no pilot

Flight schedule could be better. Leave Montreal early in the morning and return from LAX later in the day

AC announced early departure, but departure was delayed about 1 hour due to engine problems.

I like the tv show the seat was ok and the crew was awesome

Made me check my carry on and then lost it,

Tout était bien, comme pour la plupart des compagnies aériennes, le seul bémol était leurs système de divertissement qui a cessé de fonctionner en plein milieu du vol. Un peu décevant surtout quand il reste encore 2h de vol.

No free food service for a 6 hour flight! Paying for headset …… couldn’t even get a coffee

Overall content with my experience, a lack of communication regarding boarding and waiting delayed inside the plane was really annoying.

They never informed my girlfriend that she needed an eTA to land in Canada. Their touch screen panels at the airport never informed us that was the reason why we couldn't progress through check-in. The lady at the counter didn't know why she couldn't check-in until airport staff came a little later. Were they slightly more cooperative at any point, this could have been avoided. They won't return our money and cancelled the return flights too.

Best Room At… The Venetian Resort Las Vegas

Say buongiorno to an invitiation-only suite with all the extra touches.

a large ornate building with columns with The Venetian Las Vegas in the background

The distance between Las Vegas, Nevada and Venice, Italy is nearly 5,900 miles and almost nothing at all. That’s because 25 years ago, the Venetian Resort Las Vegas opened with the mission to do more than just emulate La Serenissima, but to bring some of the best of it to Sin City.

“Our founders, Sheldon and Miriam Adelson went to Venice, came back to Vegas and said, ‘let's build a Venetian,’” explains Patrick Nichols, the property’s president and CEO. “They wanted to take what they loved about Venice and bring it to Vegas, and they built what is now the second largest hotel in the world.”

And while Venice itself is famous for sinking just a bit each year, the Venetian Resort is instead on the rise. The property—which is home to more than 7,000 suites in its three towers, over 40 restaurants (including classic Italian spots as well as offerings from Thomas Keller, Tetsuya Wakuda, and Wolfgang Puck), and the cabaret-style nightspot Voltaire, where Kylie Minogue and Christina Aguilera have had residencies—is about a year into a $1.5 billion refresh that Nichols says will “reaffirm the Venetian Resort as the leading luxury hotel on the market.”

Here, Nichols shares the details on his own favorite room as well as the inside track for a bit of la dolce vita right there on the Strip.

What do you consider to be the best room at the property and why?

We're 7,100 suites, and every room in the resort is a suite. We average close to 700 square feet per room, so there's not a bad suite in the building. If we’re talking the very best suite, though, I’d have to go with the Chairman Suite in the Palazzo Tower. There are four total, and each has a villa feel to it, with massive terraces, hot tubs, pools, bars, dining areas, 24-hour butler service, gyms, steam rooms, saunas, and between three and four bedrooms. They’re up there with the best suites in the world.

How much does it cost per night?

Right now, the Chairman Suites are invite only, so you have to be invited to stay at one. They’re reserved for our most valuable casino guests.

a pool with palm trees and buildings around it

How would you describe the guests and the vibe at the hotel?

The Venetian Resort is one of the most recognizable brands in Las Vegas, and you stay that way over a 25-year period by being consistent in delivering great service time and time again, and by creating new experiences every time someone visits. So, we’ve been open for 25 years but guests who visit every year always have something new to discover in addition to the service and luxury they remember.

What feeling about Las Vegas do you hope to impart to guests?

There’s a sense of whimsy at the Venetian Resort, and part of it is that we’re a themed hotel based on one of the greatest destinations in the world. We’ve brought the best parts of Venice to Las Vegas, but we also do everything with a view of who are guests are and what stories they’ll want to tell their friends when they get home. So, we’re a thoughtful Italian resort but we definitely hold a specific place in Las Vegas.

venetian pallazo

What’s a local attraction that you always recommend?

The first would be Voltaire, which is a completely unique, if not new, take on entertainment. It harkens back to the old show rooms of 1960s Las Vegas and has a capacity of 1,000, as well as some of the best acts in the world. When everybody else is going bigger, we’re getting more intimate. That said, there’s nothing hotter in Las Vegas than the Sphere; it’s absolutely spectacular. And if you want to get off the strip for a local experience, I think Vegas has one of the best Chinatowns in the country, there’s incredible food and great businesses and it’s always evolving.
