16. Vancouver Lost Souls of Gastown Walking Tour

Ghost tours Vancouver.

⭐️  RATING:  5 out of 5 Stars (792 reviews) | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH: 1.5 Hours | 🚀  BOOK NOW

While Gastown is one of the most popular neighbourhoods to explore in Vancouver, most people neglect the dark side of its past. Wait until the sun sets and get a glimpse into Vancouver’s rough and rowdy past on a walking tour of this historic area . Hear haunting tales of the city’s darkest days, when fires, smallpox and gold dust fever swept through the frontier outpost. Visit the neighbourhood’s landmarks and historic sites as your guide evokes the thieves, hustlers and vagabonds that made the West so wild. This is one of those Vancouver tours you won’t forget.

I have done a lot of ghost tours as I have traveled throughout the United States and internationally. Although this tour did not contain haunted places, Janet was by far the best storyteller that I have experienced. We traveled all throughout Gastown hearing an entertaining story, told in first person. While Janet consistently maintained character, we heard the history if Gastown from a young lady’s point of view -Daniele ( see more reviews )

Customize your sightseeing tour of Vancouver with multiple pass options for a hop-on hop-off tour aboard a clear-top bus. ⭐️  RATING:  4.5 out of 5 Stars (1,043 reviews) | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH: 2-3 Hours | 🚀  BOOK NOW

While not one of the guided Vancouver tours, you really don’t need one at Capilano Suspension Bridge, which is home to one of British Columbia’s most popular attractions. Surrounded by temperate rain forest, you’re admission includes crossing the 70-metre-high bridge , climbing through old-growth fir trees on the Treetops Adventure, and admiring the beautiful canyon along a towering wall of granite on the new Cliffwalk. There’s also a free shuttle between downtown Vancouver and Capilano Suspension Bridge

Great place to bring elderly parents. Very shady, mostly flat paths. Suspension bridge was challenging for them but overall stable to cross. My 82 year old father and 76 year old mother crossed the suspension bridge and did very well! Lots of shady paths and certain places to sit. We stayed for the raptor presentation and loved it. Highly recommend. Gets crowded, so go early! -Kimberly ( see more reviews )

Ryan was amazing. Very knowledgeable about every place we went to. The hotels were excellent and in great location. The stops were also really great. I really enjoyed this tour. However, the downside of this trip was the group (mostly two people in specific) of travellers who were inconsiderably loud, obnoxious, rudely talking over the tour guide (we couldn’t hear what he was saying half the time), putting their dirty feet on peoples seats, playing music very loudly off their phones, and just being inconsiderate of the other people who were also on this tour. It made it very tedious for a long bus ride.

Loved the tour and our guide was awesome very well organised and fun, adaptive and flexible. Great trip overall with lots of activities. Would be great to have a night in Victoria in a hostel rather than campground as it was too far from the city. Personally for me I would prefer more freedom on what to eat as I am quite picky and would love to have more opportunity to eat out rather than being restricted by tight food budget of a campground, also I thought I would rather spend more time doing things than cooking/washing and just pick up my own lunch on the go but thats a personal preference. Would also be great to see similar tours running for people looking for more challenging hiking. My suggestion would be to run a group once a month with the same program but substituting most hikes with moderate/difficult ones rather than super relaxed walking and put fitness level as a requirement for the trip. It seems there is a gap on the market between hardcore expiditions with heavy backpacks and chilled tours requiring below average level of fitness.

The sites are amazing and the paddleboarding and kayaking trips were amazing! Terrance is a great guide. The locals are kind and easy to talk to.

We enjoyed our tour very much, the sights were beautiful, staff we well informed. A highlight for us was the optional evening photographic tour. The only thing stopping me from giving five stars was the last day felt very rushed, especially at the Banff gondola as the queue to get on took half an hour and not enough time allocated to our lunch at the Lake Louise Chateau, we had to ask the waitress to bring out the dessert while we were eating the main as we only had 15 minutes until the bus left. Allocate a bit more time for those things and you will get five stars.

Our Tour guide was pleasant and knowledgeable. He went over and beyond to accommodate our travels.
I have a great time! Ben is our tour guide, he’s such a great fun, knowledgeable, friendly person. He made sure everyone comfortable, safe, and ready to answer any questions we have during the tour. I did group tour before, I can tell Ben is one of the best.
Great tour with amazing sights and wildlife; however, be aware of a lot of driving the first two days on the way to banff and on the last two days back to Vancouver. Furthermore the itinerary should be updated as there where some changes as to the description.

Best Vancouver Boat Tours and Sightseeing Cruises

Lisa Kling/Getty Images

Part of what makes Vancouver scenery so spectacular is the combination of water and mountains--the downtown peninsula is surrounded by English Bay (the Pacific Ocean), False Creek (the waterway that runs south of downtown), and the Burrard Inlet.

Boat tours and cruises are a wonderful way to experience Vancouver's outdoor beauty, especially on a sunny day (although they're still worth it in the rain, too). Most boat tours and cruises operate primarily from late April to October (the summer season, basically). If you are traveling to Vancouver between October and April, visit the official company websites for information on private tours/charters and special events. For example, Harbour Cruises offers boat tours of the Carol Ships Parade of Light in December. Non-tour options, like the Aquabus, run year-round.

Harbour Cruises

Harbour Cruises is one of Vancouver's oldest city cruise companies , and it offers a wide array of tours. For travelers and sightseeing, their one-hour Vancouver Harbour Tour (late April through September) is a great introduction to Vancouver; it includes a narrated "tour" of the sights on the Burrard Inlet, as well as photo ops and views of the Vancouver skyline, North Shore mountains, and Stanley Park . They also offer Sunset Dinner Cruises (with dinner included) for the summer season.

In late July/early August, there are Fireworks Cruises, for viewing the annual Celebration of Light Fireworks .

The Vancouver Aquabus

The Vancouver Aquabus is not a boat tour per se ; that is, it doesn't have a tour guide or any amenities. Rather, the Aquabus is a mini "water bus" for ferrying people around False Creek; many locals use the Aquabus to get from Yaletown to Granville Island (for example).

For visitors, the Aquabus is a very inexpensive way to see Vancouver from the water. Aquabuses run year-round in every weather and make eight stops around False Creek, including Science World. Start from Granville Island  and hop on and off, or simply stay for the entire, circular route and treat it as sightseeing. Families with kids may prefer this option to an organized tour, just because it's so easy to hop off if you need to, and shorter than a cruise.

False Creek Ferries

Like the Aquabus, False Creek Ferries are small boats that locals use to move around False Creek. Also like Aquabus, they're a great option for sightseeing on the water for cheap and allow you to stay aboard for the entire route or hop on and off.

Originating on Granville Island, False Creek Ferries stop at Vanier Park (home to the Museum of Vancouver, Vancouver Maritime Museum, and Bard on the Beach), Yaletown, Science World, and the Vancouver Aquatic Centre (one of the city's top indoor public pools ).

Accent Cruises Dinner Cruises

While Harbour Cruises sail north of downtown Vancouver (on the Burrard Inlet), Accent Cruises' public summer Dinner Cruises leave from Granville Island, south of downtown, and sail northwest around Stanley Park, which means views of several Vancouver landmarks--including Vanier Park, Kitsilano Beach , and English Bay Beach --as well as the city skyline and Vancouver's famous bridges (Burrard Bridge, Granville Street Bridge, and Lion's Gate Bridge). Private charters are available year-round.

Accent Cruises are dinner cruises, rather than straight-up sightseeing tours.

Summer Salsa Cruises

Voted Best Boat Cruise in Vancouver in Georgia Straight's Best of Vancouver Awards 2014, the Summer (July - August) Salsa Cruises play "the best in Latin music on three levels of the largest cruising vessel in Vancouver, the MV Britannia." There are also special "family-friendly" day cruises, too.

We were lucky enough to have the tour bus to ourselves, and our guide, Fred, was superb. Knowledgeable and friendly, he tailored the tour for us, recommended good restaurants and even walked through Stanley Park with us and pointed out the best places to see. 4 hours, picked up at the hotel and dropped off at a great nearby restaurant.

Shaun C, London, United Kingdom

This was our second visit to Canada and the first to Vancouver. It was great! Guide Michelle was excellent. She was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining: she pointed out sights of interests along with some funny and weird facts that kept the whole story attractive. The next day we went to Whistler and added a gondola attraction sea to sky. This is worth seeing! My boyfriend enjoyed the trip as a child lol

Hollie and Robert, Austria.

We spent a day with Adam touring Victoria and Butchart Gardens. It was an incredible day, one of the highlights of our whole trip! Adam was outgoing and an outstanding story teller, so we learned a lot about the city, the peninsula and the whole province with him as he is a local guy from the northern part of British Columbia. We didn’t regret the money we spent on this private tour, because you will never get so much attention from a guide with a group of other people.

In fact, it’s even located on the same meridian as France’s vaunted Bordeaux region (I almost didn’t believe it!). While we may not yet be quite on that level, BC wines have begun making inroads in international wine competitions.
