How to Make Safari Animal Mason Jars:

  • First, arrange a layer of newspapers or a dropcloth to protect your working surface.
  • Then, using a small paint brush, apply a thin layer of glue to the jar ring. Press the lid inside and let dry.
  • Next, attach an animal to the center of each lid using a generous amount of glue. Let dry completely.
  • Move the surface outside to a well-ventilated area. Lightly paint the lids with spray paint. Dry and re-coat two or three times as needed until the animals and lids are covered. Let dry.
  • Fill the jars with cotton balls, cotton swabs, pacifiers and other small baby nursery essentials. Top eaach with a lid and display!

If you are pregnant, you may want to have someone else work with the glue. Be sure you wear a mask and work in a well-ventilated area. If you aren't sure, check with your doctor.

TIP: If you can find solid lids, you can skip Step 2. If you prefer, recycle clean, washed sauce and pickle jars for this craft.

I'm working on a set for my daughter, Melody, too. She's doing a purple and teal baby nursery and I think little Trolls would make adorable jars with all of their fun colors. I'll post the finished result here.

Tips & Ideas for this Baby Nursery Craft:

  • Don't have a baby nursery to decorate? No worries. You can make these with glass beads, small knobs, or any "theme" that goes with your sewing room or craft room. Perfect for storing small bobbins, safety pins and more.
  • This idea also works great in the bathroom.
  • Save yourself a step by using solid lids instead of rings and lids.
  • Hang on to those great spaghetti sauce and pickle jars for this craft.
  • Be sure to let the lids dry 100% before using them. This gives the glue time to cure and will give you the best results.
  • The animals are for decorative purposes only and should not be used to hold, carry, or twist the jars.
  • When painting, work with several light coats because this prevents drips.
  • Create this fun storage and display craft for seasonal events like Easter, Christmas and more by attaching cute bunnies, elves and more. Too cute!
  • Teachers, this is great for storing paper clips, push pins, and more. Make with wooden letters or apples on top to match your classroom vibe.

How To Open JAR Files in Mac (3 Methods)

Ezriah Zippernowsky

Hello, fellow primates! If you’re going bananas over how to open JAR files on your Mac, you’ve swung to the right branch. This guide is as easy as peeling a banana, and I promise no monkey business. So, let’s get started, shall we?

Table of contents

Opening vs using vs running jar files.

  • Method 1: Open JAR Files Using Finder
  • Method 2: Open JAR Files with Web Browser (No Java Installation Needed)
  • Method 3: Open JAR Files with The Unarchiver

How To Run JAR Files in Mac

Video guide showing how to open jar files using safari browser..

Before we jump in, let’s clear the jungle a bit. When we say “open a JAR file,” there are a few things you might want to do:

  • Opening the JAR File: Like peeling a banana to see what’s inside. This means checking out its contents and maybe extracting them. Inside that JAR, you might find all sorts of treasures: Java class files, resource files, and even some metadata. Think of tools like WinRAR, 7-Zip, or the jar command-line tool as your banana peelers provided by the JDK. Using them is like unzipping a ZIP file to get to the delicious fruit inside.
  • Using the JAR File as a Library in a Java project: Imagine having a JAR file as this magical ingredient to jazz up your Java smoothie. When you add a JAR file to your Java blend, you’re mixing in some external flavors and resources. With this, you can savor classes, methods, and resources from the JAR in your own concoction. Many of these exotic mix-ins, like third-party libraries, come in JAR packaging. Add them to your recipe (or classpath) and enjoy a richer taste without doing all the mashing yourself.
  • Running the JAR File: This is the king of the jungle move, where you execute the JAR as an application. Some JAR files are like super-charged bananas - they’re ready to swing right out of the tree! These JARs are designed to run and play, having a main class that the Java Jungle Gym (or Java Runtime Environment) loves. To let them loose, you’d typically chant the java -jar command followed by the JAR’s name. But remember, for a JAR to swing, it needs a special map (a manifest file) pointing to the main play area.

How To Open JAR Files Using Finder

The simplest option to opening JAR files is to use the finder. No need to monkey around with 3rd party software!

  • Locate the JAR file: Find the JAR file you want to open. It might be hiding in the jungle of your files, but you’ve got this!

How To Open JAR Files Using Terminal: Step 2

How To Open JAR Files with Web Browser

Another option that doesn’t require any software installation is to use your web browser. First, head over to the ezyZip jar file extractor or select it from the drown down menu.

How To Open JAR Files with The Unarchiver

If you’re still having trouble opening JAR files or if you just want to try a different tree in the software jungle, The Unarchiver is a great choice. It’s a powerful, free tool that can open many file formats, including JAR files. Let’s see how to use it:

Method 1: Using The Unarchiver: Step 1

And there you have it, another method to open JAR files on your Mac. With these tools at your disposal, you’re ready to conquer the software jungle!

How To Check If Java Is Installed

Before we can start monkeying around with the JAR files in an actual project, we need to make sure Java is installed on your Mac. Why, you ask? Well, JAR stands for Java Archive, so no Java, no fun!

How To Check If Java Is Installed: Step 1

How To Install Java

If your Mac is a Java-free zone, don’t fret. Installing Java is easier than climbing a tree (and less risky too).

How To Install Java: Step 1

Just like a monkey mimics its pals, some JAR files are designed to imitate applications and run on your Mac. Here’s how you can set the stage for them:

Gather Your Jungle Gear : Before swinging into action, follow the previous steps to ensure Java is installed.

How To Run JAR Files in Mac: Step 3

If all goes bananas, err… I mean, well, your JAR file will run and dance around like a monkey in the spotlight.

Remember, every time you feel like running a JAR file, just think of it as setting a talented monkey free in the digital jungle of your Mac. Enjoy the show, and keep those bananas handy! 🍌🌴🐒

1. What is a JAR file?

Think of a JAR file as a monkey’s backpack. It bundles together Java classes, metadata, and resources (like images and texts) into a single file, just as a monkey might store bananas, leaves, and shiny objects all in one place.

2. Why would I want to open a JAR file on Mac?

If you’ve found a JAR file during your digital jungle exploration, it might contain a Java application or library you want to use or inspect. Opening it on your Mac allows you to see what’s inside or run Java applications.

3. Can I run JAR files on Mac without any additional software?

While Macs are pretty smart, you’ll need Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to run JAR files. It’s like needing the right tool to open a coconut – in this case, Java is your tool!

4. How can I ensure the JAR file is safe to open?

Just as you’d be cautious about which bananas you pick in the wild, always ensure your JAR files come from trusted sources. Scan them with a good antivirus software before opening to ensure there aren’t any hidden digital bugs.

5. Why isn’t my JAR file working on Mac?

Several reasons might cause a hiccup. Maybe the JRE isn’t installed or updated, or perhaps the JAR file is looking for specific resources or dependencies. It’s like a monkey puzzle – sometimes you need to find the right pieces to make it work!

6. Can I create my own JAR files on Mac?

Absolutely! If you’re feeling like a tech-savvy monkey, you can use Java Development Kit (JDK) tools on Mac to create your own JAR files. Gather your Java classes, resources, and manifest, and you’re good to go!

7. What’s the difference between JAR, WAR, and EAR files?

JAR is like a basic banana, WAR is a banana dipped in chocolate, and EAR is a full-fledged banana split! JAR files are general-purpose archives, WAR files are for web applications, and EAR files package enterprise applications. Different flavors for different needs!

8. How do I open a JAR file on iOS?

Now, that’s like trying to teach a monkey to fly! iOS devices don’t natively support Java applications, so you won’t be able to run JAR files directly. However, there are some third-party apps and workaround methods available on the App Store that might help you view the contents, but running might be a challenge.

You’re now a JAR file opening pro. Remember, when it comes to archiving software, it’s a jungle out there, but with this guide, you’re the king (or queen) of the jungle! Now, go forth and open those JAR files like the tech-savvy primate you are!

About This Author

Selenium Grid is used to speed up the execution of a test by using multiple machines to run tests in parallel. It is also used to support running tests against multiple environments, specifically, against different browsers at the same time. You can use Selenium Grid in the following scenarios:

  • To run tests against multiple browsers, multiple versions of a browser, and browsers running on different operating systems.
  • To reduce the time it takes for a test suite to complete a test pass.

Use this article as a step-by-step guide for setting up the Selenium Grid.

Download and Configurations

Download Selenium Standalone Server, Chrome, Safari, and Firefox drivers, then configure your Mac machine to run a Safari test. The following steps explain the process:

1. Download Selenium Server

Download the Selenium Server jar file from Selenium’s official website, formerly known as Selenium RC Server, and save it to any location on your local disk.

Visit the Selenium HQ download page at  http://www.seleniumhq.org/download/

You should see a similar file to selenium-server-standalone-3.141.59.jar  in the download folder once  the download is completed.

2. Download the Chrome and Firefox driver

  • Navigate to the Chrome driver download  page and download the chromedriver_mac64.zip file, then extract it.

Below snapshot is just for reference purpose, always download the latest driver from the above given landing page.

mceclip1.png

  • Beginning with Safari 10 on macOS X El Capitan and macOS Sierra, Safari comes bundled with a new driver implementation that’s maintained by the Web Developer Experience team at Apple. Safari’s driver is launchable via the  /usr/bin/safaridriver

3. Configure Chrome, Firefox, and Safari drivers for automation

  • After downloading and extracting the Chrome driver, you need to move it to the  /usr/local/ bin  folder to run the Chrome and Firefox test

Choose your method from the following two options:

4.  Configurations for Safari

  • Ensure that the Develop menu is available. It can be turned on by opening Safari Preferences  in the menu bar, Safari > Preferences   >  Advanced  tab, and confirm that the  Show Develop menu in menu bar  checkbox is checked.
  • Enable Remote Automation in the Develop menu. This is toggled via  Develop > Allow Remote Automation  in the menu bar.
  • Authorize  safaridriver  to launch the  webdriverd  service which hosts the local webserver. To permit this, run  /usr/bin/safaridriver  once manually and complete the authentication prompt.
  • Enter the password and you're done.

Running Selenium Hub and Node on Macs

Selenium hub.

The hub is the central server that manages nodes, takes instructions from the client and executes them remotely on the nodes, then manages test threads. Each Selenium Grid consists of one hub. The hub needs to be reachable from respective clients, for example, the CI server, developer machine, etc. The hub will connect to one or more nodes that tests will be delegated to.

Selenium Node

Nodes are Selenium instances that will execute tests on individual computer systems. There can be many nodes in a grid. A node on a Windows machine may have the capability of offering Internet Explorer as a browser option, whereas this wouldn't be possible on a Linux or Mac.

How to setup HUB:

To ease the configuration, download the attached  SeleniumGrid.zip file, which contains all the required files, and extract the SeleniumGrid folder. Then copy the extracted Grid Setup folder to your  Desktop .

Ensure that you have downloaded the compatible rivers and the correct Selenium Grid version to perform the setup procedures as previously listed.

N ote: Copy the compatible grid version to the  SeleniumGrid folder and rename it to selenium-server-standalone.jar

Now, open  Terminal  and run the following command:

This will allow you to run the grid through the grid S etup . command script.

Double-clicking on the  gridSetup.command script should open two command windows and run both the Selenium Hub and Node on your Mac machine.

Visit the  How to setup Selenium Grid? article for information about Hub and Node configuration files and the execution process.

Configure your Leapwork environment to begin your first Selenium grid test using this article .

What Is a JAR File?

How to open and convert Java archive files

What to Know

  • A JAR file is a Java archive file.
  • Open one with a browser (Java must be installed).
  • Convert to EXE with Eclipse.

This article explains what a JAR file is, the different ways you can open one depending on how you want to use it, and how to convert one to EXE or ZIP.

A file with the .JAR file extension is a Java archive file used for storing Java programs and games in a single file. Some contain files that make them work as standalone apps, and others hold program libraries for other programs to use.

JAR files are ZIP compressed and often store things like CLASS files, a manifest file, and application resources like images, sound clips, and security certificates. Since they can hold hundreds or even thousands of files in a compressed format, it's easy to share and move them.

Java-capable mobile devices might use this format for game files, and some web browsers hold themes and add-ons in the JAR format.

How to Open JAR Files

The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) must be installed in order to open executable JAR files, but note that not all JAR files are executables. Once installed, you can just double-click the file to open it.

Some mobile devices have JRE built-in. Once installed, Java applications can be opened in a web browser, too, like Firefox, Safari, Edge, etc. ( but not Chrome ).

Since JAR files are compressed with ZIP, any file decompressor can open one to see the contents that are inside. This includes programs like 7-Zip , PeaZip and jZip

Another way to open the file is to use the following  command in Command Prompt , replacing yourfile.jar with the name of your own JAR file:

Since you might need different programs to open different JAR files, see How to Change File Associations in Windows if it's automatically opening in a program that you don't want to use it with.

Errors Opening JAR Files

Because of security settings in the Windows operating system and within some web browsers, it's not at all uncommon to see errors when attempting to access Java applications.

For example, " Java Application Blocked " might be seen when trying to load a Java applet. " Your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running. " can be fixed by setting the security level within the Java Control Panel applet .

If you can't open Java applets even after installing JRE, first make sure Java is enabled in your browser and that Control Panel is properly set up to use Java . Then, completely restart your browser by closing down all open windows and then reopening the whole program.

Also, check that you're running the latest version of Java . If you're not, return to that JRE link above and install the latest version. Or, learn how to update your current Java installation .

Although unlikely, you might be receiving errors because you don't really have a JAR file, and so the program you're using to open it doesn't support the format. This can happen if you've misread the file extension. There's more on this below.

How to Convert a JAR File

You can decompile a JAR file's CLASS files to Java files with the help of JavaDecompilers.com . Upload your file there and choose which decompiler to use.

Converting a Java application so that it can be used on the Android platform would require a JAR to APK file conversion. However, it seems that the easiest way to get a Java program on Android is to simply compile the APK from the original source code.

You can make executable JAR files in programming applications like Eclipse .

WAR files are Java web archive files, but you can't convert a JAR file directly to a WAR file, since the WAR format has a particular structure that JARs do not. Instead, you can build a WAR and then add the JAR file into the lib directory so that the classes inside the JAR file are available for use. WizToWar might help you do this.

To make a ZIP file from a JAR file is as easy as renaming the file extension from .JAR to .ZIP. This doesn't actually perform a file conversion, but it does let programs that use ZIP files, like 7-Zip or PeaZip, more easily open the JAR file.

Still Can't Open It?

Some files share a few of the same file extension letters, which can cause confusion if the file isn't opening like you think it should. What's happening is that you're most likely misreading the file extension.

For example, JARVIS files open with a text editor, and JARC and ARJ files are archives.

More Information on the JAR Format

If you need help packing programs into JAR files , follow that link for instructions on the Oracle website.

Only one manifest file can be included in a JAR archive, and it has to be at the META-INF/MANIFEST.MF location. It should follow the syntax of the name and value separated by a colon, like Manifest-Version: 1.0 . This MF file can specify the classes the application should load.

Java developers can digitally sign their applications, but it doesn't sign the JAR file itself. Instead, the files inside the archive are listed with their signed checksums .

How to Tip in Africa on Safari

For many people on safari in Africa, tipping can be confusing. Gratuity is one of those things that is different all over the world, and it can be awkward trying to figure out etiquette and local customs – especially in a continent as diverse as Africa.

With over 3,000 different ethnic groups speaking more than 2,000 different languages, traveling in Africa introduces you to a whole new world of culture and history. Without a bit of research into the specific country you’re visiting, it can be tough to figure out what is expected of you as a guest. There are plenty of things you need to know before you go on an overland tour in Africa – especially when it comes to tipping. With this in mind, we’ve created a complete guide to tipping in Africa to help you better plan and budget for your safari.

If you need more budgeting tips for your trip to Africa, read our guide on How to budget for a saf ari in Africa . And, if you want to do more than give an amazing tip, check out our guide on how to travel responsibly in Africa to have a positive impact while exploring this exciting continent.

Tipping etiquette in Africa

Tourism is a key driver of the African economy accounting for 8.1% of the GDP with many people in the industry relying quite heavily on gratuity. Tipping is firmly entrenched in the tourism industry in Africa and you shouldn’t have to feel awkward about it at all. Gratuity contributes a substantial amount toward ensuring that those working behind the scenes to make your travels a success earn a livable wage. But you should never feel obliged to leave a tip if the service you received was unprofessional or inadequate.

Who do you tip while on safari and how to determine how much to tip in Africa

Who to tip in Africa is not very different from other continents. Generally speaking, you should tip back of house staff such as cooks, porters, and cleaners, as well as the front of house staff such as guides, spotters or trackers, waiters and waitresses, and transfer drivers. 10% gratuity is a great starting place when determining how much to tip on safari.

The tipping jar or kitty while on a group tour

How to give tips is another ticky and often awkward experience. From leaving money in your room when you check out to handing cash to individuals and adding on something extra to your credit card on your final bill – every camp or lodge has its system that you have to navigate.

While these are easy to do, it can still be uncomfortable for some. Thankfully, most camps and lodges will have a tipping jar or kitty which eliminates any awkwardness and does not allow staff to know how much specific guests tipped them. These tipping jars are either separated for guides, back of house, and front of house or accumulated together and shared out at the end of the trip when everyone has departed.

Tipping on Safari considerations:

Guide to Tipping at safari lodges

At every safari lodge, there are many people hard at work behind the scenes to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Most lodges have tipping advice and guidelines, so feel free to ask the reception or manager about their tipping policy. Generally speaking, there is often a communal tip ‘jar’ for this and a reasonable rate to go on is USD10 to 20 per person per day.

Tipping safari guides

Your safari guide will be your go-to person while on a game drive in Africa and are essential to the success of your safari. They’re responsible for keeping you safe in the wild, point out the often near-hidden animals that you traveled all this way to see and are chock full of interesting information about the wildlife and region. It is customary to leave a USD10 tip per person per day for your safari guide and is usually given at the end of your safari.

About Tipping safari trackers

Safari trackers accompany rangers on game drives and are the eyes and the ears of your safari. In other words, all those epic wildlife photos you’ve captured are largely thanks to these guys and tipping is always a great way to show appreciation. Tips for trackers are usually USD 5 per person per day.

Tipping in restaurants and bars

Tipping in restaurants and bars is considered the norm in Africa and waiters still rely on gratuity to make a livable income. For waiters, a 10-15% tip on the bill total is considered normal. Some restaurants may automatically add on a service charge for larger tables so it’s important to check your bill before adding on a tip. For bartenders, it is recommended to tip at least 10% of the bill for large orders. If you’re paying per drink then 1 to 2 USD should be sufficient.

Details on Tipping at the airport and hotels in Africa

At hotels and airports, 1 USD per item of luggage is an appropriate tip for porter service, but consider tipping more for awkward or really heavy loads. If you wish to tip the hotel maids, around 3-5 USD is a suitable amount.

Tipping drivers and transfers

In Africa you’ll generally find two types of taxis; kombis and metered taxis. It’s not usually customary to tip both types of taxi drivers. But a small gratuity of +- 1 USD for longer rides is always welcomed, especially if your final destination is way out of town. Uber is also common in major cities and tips are not customary in this instance.

Tipping drivers

About Tipping at petrol stations

Petrol (gas) attendants are pretty unique to Africa. These unsung heroes fill up your vehicle, clean your windscreen, check the oil, water and tire pressure. While a tip is not compulsory, a small tip is welcomed, preferably in local currency (e.g. ZAR5 in South Africa)

Guide to Tipping car guards

Car guards are another fairly unique African feature. Some of these guards are hired by the city and others are others may be doing it of their own accord and their tips may be their sole income. When it comes to tipping car guards, a small tip in local currency should be sufficient and it is recommended to only tip when you return to your car.

Tipping Guidelines by Country in Africa:

About tipping on safari in tanzania.

Tipping is customary on a safari in Tanzania. For those working in the service industry, including waiters, guides and trackers, tips can form a significant part of their income.

Currency to tip in:  It’s most common to tip in cash, both Tanzanian shillings and US dollars are accepted.

How much to tip in Tanzania:  We recommend tipping +- 8–10 USD per guest per day for a group guide, about 5–10 USD per guest per day for a safari chef, +- 2 USD per guest per day for the general staff and +- 3USD per city transfer.

Tipping Kilimanjaro:  Tipping while climbing Kilimanjaro is usually done as a group rather than per person. The recommended tipping amount for Kilimanjaro is as follows:

  • Per guide – US$20-25 per day
  • Per assistant guide – US$15-20 per day
  • Per cook – US$15 per day
  • Per porter – US$10 per day

Tipping in Tanzania

Tipping Kenya

Tipping in restaurants and bars isn’t customary everywhere in Kenya, but in Nairobi and on the coast a gratuity culture has been well established. Still, the choice of how much to tip is all yours.

Currency to tip in:  Tipping in local currency (Kenyan Shillings) is preferred as the currency exchange is expensive.

How much to tip in Kenya:  For Kenya safari and tour guides at camps and lodges, a tip of 10 to 15USD per person per day is recommended, and tip half that amount for half-day activities. Porters at hotels usually tipped 50-100 shillings (+- 1 USD). And, hotel maids are accustomed to receiving 200-500 shillings (+- 1 to 3 USD) for a whole week of service.

Guide to Tipping in Uganda

Tipping in Uganda is firmly entrenched in the tourism and service industry and helps boost local income. Generally speaking, workers in the industry earn very low wages, and gratuity forms a big part in helping them provide their family’s necessities.

Currency to tip in:  The local currency is the Ugandan shilling (USh), though USD is widely accepted. In remote areas, it’s recommended to tip in local currency as foreign exchange can be difficult and costly.

How much to tip in Uganda:  In restaurants, it is common to tip USh1000 to USh1500 in Uganda. Tips for safari rangers and guides in national parks are usually between USh5000 to USh10,000.

Tipping on a gorilla trek:  It is not obligatory to tip on your gorilla trek in Uganda, but leaving a tip is usually a sign of appreciation of good service given to you by your guide. For gorilla trekking guides, we recommend tipping between 5-10 USD per person per day at the end of your tour.

Tipping on Safari in Botswana

Tipping in Botswana is always voluntary and should depend on the quality of service received. However, gratuity can be a significant part of the income of those in service industries, including waiters, guides and trackers.

Currency to tip in: We recommend you tip in Botswana Pula (BWP) in remote areas and while on tour however US dollars are widely accepted at lodges.

How much to tip in Botswana: It is customary to tip guides/drivers 10 USD per person per day, camp or lodge staff 10USD per guest per day (usually placed in a communal box) and transfer drivers and porters 3USD.

Tipping your mokoro poler in the Delta: It’s common to tip mokoro polers and 50 Pula (5USD) is considered the norm.

Tipping Botswana

About Tipping in South Africa

Tipping is widely practiced and expected in South Africa, both by locals and tourists. However, you should never feel obliged to tip if the service you received is poor.

Currency to tip in:  Tips should be done in Rands and cash is preferred. Tipping by card is also appreciated, but the service staff member usually only receives it by the end of the week or month.

How much to tip in South Africa:  As a rule of thumb, a 10% tip is a good starting point in restaurants and bars. On safari, it is customary to tip guides between R100 to R200 per day depending on the size of your group.

Tipping in Cape Town:  Tipping in Cape Town follows the same process as the rest of South Africa. 10% of the bill is usually standard, however, if the service has been outstanding then higher percentages are always appreciated.

Tipping on Safari in Zimbabwe

Tipping in Zimbabwe is not compulsory but always appreciated, and the amount generally depends on your satisfaction with the service provided.

Currency to tip in:  As of June 2019 the US dollar, South African rand and all other foreign currencies are no longer considered legal tender throughout Zimbabwe. The only accepted currency is the Zimbabwe Dollar.

How much to tip in Zimbabwe:  It’s customary to tip waiters in restaurants 10 to 15% of the bill amount and to give car guards who watch over your car in supermarket or shopping mall car parks US$1.

Tipping local guides

Guide to Tipping on Safari in Zambia

Tipping is not as expected in Zambia as it is in most parts of the world. However, we encourage rewarding great service with a gratuity as tips make a significant positive impact on the salary of those working in the service industry.

Currency to tip in:  The preferred currency to tip in is USD, and cash is generally the most accepted method.

How much to tip in Zambia:  As a rough guideline, we suggest tipping 10USD per person per day for your ranger and tracker and 25USD to be divided amongst the rest of the lodge staff. When it comes to restaurants, some establishments will add a service charge for your bill; if not, 10% is standard.

Tipping on Safari in Namibia

Tipping is not compulsory in Nambia but recommended. Most lodges will suggest tipping amounts for guides, trackers and housekeeping staff which is usually an amount per day. It’s customary to leave a tip at the end of your stay, especially for guides and trackers.

Currency to tip in:  The currency of Namibia is the Namibia Dollar. This is tied to the South African Rand and 1 ZAR = 1 N$ and both are used freely in Namibia.

How much to tip in Namibia:  As a rule of thumb, a specialist safari guide is tipped from N$100 per guest per day. It is also a nice gesture to tip general camp/lodge staff; here we recommend about N$30 per guest per day. Like South Africa, Namibia also has car guards and petrol attendants, we recommend tipping them between 2 to 3 Namibian Dollars.

Safari not allowed to open java jar files

Hey everyone, each time I attempt to open a .jar file, I get a message say "nameoffile.jar Cannot be opened because Safari is not allowed to open Java JAR files. How do I fix this? I have the latest versions of high sierra and Java. It says the same thing if I try to open it by using Google Chrome also. I am asking on the apple site because it only started doing this when I upgraded to high sierra. However, my other os was out of date so I'd like to keep this one if possible.

Browser's are restricted from opening jar files. That was the flaw that allowed exploits in Java a while back.

Install a Java Developer Kit (JDK) and open them with that.

Or, use the command line to open the jar referencing the JRE in the Internet Plug-In.

I don't have it installed, so I can't give you the full path. You would have to look into the Java Internet Plug-in to find the java executable, then use the full path to it followed by a space, then -jar, then space, then the path to the jar file.

Something like:

/Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/jre_1.9.0/resources/java -jar ~/Downloads/jarFileName.jar

And I haven't been able to find anyone with the same problem or anything on java's site about it.

JAR files in Java

A JAR (Java Archive) is a package file format typically used to aggregate many Java class files and associated metadata and resources (text, images, etc.) into one file to distribute application software or libraries on the Java platform.  In simple words, a JAR file is a file that contains a compressed version of .class files, audio files, image files, or directories. We can imagine a .jar file as a zipped file(.zip) that is created by using WinZip software. Even, WinZip software can be used to extract the contents of a .jar . So you can use them for tasks such as lossless data compression, archiving, decompression, and archive unpacking.  Let us see how to create a .jar file and related commands which help us to work with .jar files

1.1 Create a JAR file

In order to create a .jar file, we can use jar cf command in the following ways as discussed below:

Here, cf represents to create the file. For example , assuming our package pack is available in C:\directory , to convert it into a jar file into the pack.jar , we can give the command as:  C:\> jar cf pack.jar pack

1. 2 View a JAR file

Now, the pack.jar file is created. In order to view a JAR file ‘.jar’ files, we can use the command as:

Here, tf represents the table view of file contents. For example, to view the contents of our pack.jar file, we can give the command:

Now, the contents of pack.jar are displayed as follows:

Here class1, class2, etc are the classes in the package pack. The first two entries represent that there is a manifest file created and added to pack.jar. The third entry represents the sub-directory with the name pack and the last two represent the files name in the directory pack.

Note: When we create .jar files, it automatically receives the default manifest file. There can be only one manifest file in an archive, and it always has the pathname.

This manifest file is useful to specify the information about other files which are packaged.

1.3 Extracting a JAR file

In order to extract the files from a .jar file, we can use the commands below listed:

Here, xf represents extract files from the jar files. For example, to extract the contents of our pack.jar file, we can write:

This will create the following directories in C:\

In this directory, we can see class1.class and class2.class.

1.4 Updating a JAR File

The Jar tool provides a ‘u’ option that you can use to update the contents of an existing JAR file by modifying its manifest or by adding files. The basic command for adding files has this format as shown below:

Here ‘ uf’ represents the updated jar file. For example, to update the contents of our pack.jar file, we can write:

1.5 Running a JAR file

In order to run an application packaged as a JAR file (requires the Main-class manifest header), the following command can be used as listed:

How to open jar files on windows 10 and 11.

A little bit different from opening a pickle jar.

Quick Links

What is a jar file and how can you open one, step 1: check if java is already installed on your pc, step 2: download and install java on windows, step 3: run jar files on windows 10 or windows 11, optional: extract files from a jar file, key takeaways.

To run a JAR file on Windows 10 or Windows 11, right-click it, then select Open With > Java Platform SE Binary. Alternatively, you can view or extract the contents of a JAR file by opening it in a program like WinRAR.

On Windows 10 and Windows 11, JAR files don't open by default as there are no built-in apps to handle this file format. But, you can install the free Java utility and access this file format on your PC. We'll show you the process to do that.

JAR stands for Java Archive, which is an archive comprising multiple files. Developers can make apps and other items in Java and save those files as JAR. It's worth keeping in mind, though, that JAR files contain executable code making them potentially dangerous file types . Make sure you trust the source of your JAR file before running it.

To run a JAR file on your Windows PC, you have to install the free Java utility. Then, you can double-click your JAR file to launch it. You can also extract the files out of a JAR archive using a free app like WinRAR, as we'll explain below.

It's worth checking if you have Java installed on your PC already, and if so, you can skip the Step 2 below.

To do that, first, launch the Run box by pressing Windows+R. Then, type the following in the box and press Enter:

In the Command Prompt window that opens, type the following command and press Enter:

java -version

If you have Java installed on your PC, you'll see your Java version . In this case, skip Step 2 below and head straight to Step 3 .

If Command Prompt displays the following message, then you don't have Java installed. In this case, install the utility using Step 2 below.

'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

You can download and install Java for free on your Windows PC.

To do that, first, launch a web browser on your computer and open the Java download web page . There, in the "Windows" section, download the appropriate file for your machine.

When Java is downloaded, double-click the installer file to install the utility on your PC. Then, restart your Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC.

Now that you have Java installed, you're ready to launch your JAR files.

To do that, first, open a File Explorer window and locate your JAR file.

Right-click your JAR file and choose Open With > Java(TM) Platform SE Binary.

If you don't see that option in the "Open With" menu, then click "Choose Another App" and you'll see the option.

Your JAR file will launch and you'll be able to interact with it. And that's all there is to it.

If instead of running it you'd like to extract the files from your JAR file, you can do so using a free file compression app, like WinRAR.

To start, install the free version of WinRAR on your PC. Then restart your PC .

In a File Explorer window, locate your JAR file. Then right-click the file and choose "Extract To [JAR File Name]."

WinRAR will make a new folder in your current folder. This new folder has all the files extracted from your JAR file.

And that's how you access as well as take an insider look at your JAR files on Windows. Enjoy!

Did you know certain file types can potentially harm your Windows PC ? Check out our list of such file types so you're aware.
