The oldest structure is a cabin that dates back to the 1890s. William Owen "Buckey" O’Neill, who played a major role in establishing the Grand Canyon Railroad, was also a writer, judge, Arizona politician and miner who built the cabin to be close to a nearby copper deposit. The cabin is part of the Bright Angel lodge complex and now operates as a guesthouse for tourists.

Mary Colter was an architect who was born in Pennsylvania. She designed several structures in the village and surrounding areas, including Hopi House, Lookout Studio and the Desert View Watchtower, one of her most famous designs erected in 1932. The Watchtower is located more than 7,000 feet above sea level approximately 27 miles from the village. Its design is based on the Anasazi watchtowers built by the area's original inhabitants. Visitors enjoy unobstructed views of the Colorado River and the canyon floor. Hopi House draws its inspiration from buildings in Old Oraibi, a Hopi settlement in the eastern region of Arizona, and was once inhabited by Hopi Indians who offered their arts and crafts for sale to Grand Canyon tourists.

Hi Gary. The Silver Cloud does not go that far into the canyon. It’s really designed for the person who does not have a lot of time on their hands. You get some great views of the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead on the way and get to the western edge of the Grand Canyon before heading back for a Vegas Strip flyover.

I’m staying at Caesars Palace on 27&28 July with my two sons (16&17) we’d like to see the south rim, the strip, Hoover dam and maybe touch down in the GC? Do you have a trip that does all that? We should have about 8 hours if we leave our hotel around 8am on July 28th, ideally no more than about $500ea

Hi Tony, The south rim is pretty far away from Vegas. Most of the tours go to the West Rim. If you want to go to the South Rim, I would suggest Maverick Airlines Grand Canyon Combo Tour . It’s an airplane ride to the South Rim Airport, a helicopter tour of the South Rim are then spend the rest of the day at the South Rim before getting back on the place to Vegas. If you are content going to the West Rim, I would suggest the Indian Territory Tour . It does not go as far as the South Rim but it lands at the bottom of the West Rim. You also go there via helicopter so you get better views of the Hoover Dam and a flyover the Vegas Strip.

Are ther restrooms in the canyon where we have brunch? We are on Winddancer

Hi Candy, the place where you land for about half an hour has no facilities. There is a clean bathroom at the terminal right next to the departure door. Have a great trip. The Wind Dancer is one of my favorites!

Does the DVD Video offered include views of us passengers walking on the Canyon floor during our stop there? We have a special family event that I would like to video.

The camera is fixed to the outside of the helicopter so it only records your flight. I’d suggest bringing your own video camera. Most cameras have a pretty good video function. I’d also suggest a pocket sized tripod like a Gorilla Pod.

is there restrooms on the skywalk odyssey tour

The only place there is no bathroom is on the helicopter itself. There are bathrooms at the Skywalk and in the terminal right next to the departure gate.

What's the ground rule of seating? Are heavier passengers assigned to rear seats?

When I went I was old that the "computer" assigns seating in the helicopter. So there isn't any negotiation on your assigned seat. Every passenger is discreetly weighed. And yes, the heavier passengers were in the back seats. But there really isn't… more

Amazing group with very thorough safety protocols. Our pilot was very professional and shared a lot of history of the Canyon and welcomed any questions. Can't wait to fly with Maverick in the future at one of their other sites. Thank you!

We had an amazing flight on Maverick helicopters to view the Grand Canyon. Vern was our pilot. He was fun to talk with and made us feel very safe. Maverick has a great safety record so it made us feel comfortable. This was the flight of a lifetime we could've never seen the greatness of the Grand Canyon by just touring around the rim. It was a nice trip that was well worth it.

Toby is an incredible pilot. Checkin was easy. Our original 45 minute Canyon Spirit flight was scheduled for a Friday with higher winds (25-30mph) so we opted for a different day. Definitely plan your vacation to Grand Canyon around the helicopter tour! I went with my mom and it was my first time in a helicopter like this, and it was an extraordinary experience. Every seat has a great view. My mom sat by the window and I next to her but the views were extraordinary all around. We stayed in Flagstaff so the airport is about an hour away. Need to know: in April it was a bit chilly but the helicopters have onboard temperature controls so everyone is comfortable. Max seating was 6 and it's by weight so the pilot tells you where to sit. Loved the experience and 100% recommend to first time helicopter passengers, families and bucket list fulfillment seekers.

Unbeatable views of the Grand Canyon. The flight over the Kai Bab, to and over the rim of the Grand Canyon, and then the time over the Canyon was amazing. I've visited the Grand Canyon several times, but this was by far the most memorable trip. While each helicopter can hold as many as 7 passengers, there were only 4 in ours so everyone had clear access to a window. The pilot was friendly and professional and his commentary was informative. Definitely recommended!

Our pilot was knowledgeable about the area. The helicopter was clean. Instructions were clean. The day was beautiful. The flight was fantastic.

Just give it a try and check off riding helicopter from your list. We booked the night tour online. The bus picked us up 1 hour and 20 minutes before our official tour starts, we had to wait like an hour to wait for our ride. There are 3 front seats by the pilot and 4 back seats. The best seats would be the back ones behind the pilot seat. But it doesn't matter you will get a good view and you don't have a saying where to sit. You get seated based on your weight. The trip is 10 minutes long and the ride was smooth. At the end of the tour the pilot let you take pictures by the helicopter.
