Itinerary - Guwahati Shillong Cherrapunji Tour

The Guwahati Shillong Cherrapunji tour package begins with your arrival at the Guwahati station/airport. Meet your tour representative and get greeted. Get assisted with transfer to Shillong. The drive from Guwahti to Shillong takes around 3.5 hours through scenic landscape.

By Road: Thimphu-Gelephu-New Bongai gaon- Guwahati

After breakfast, head towards Cherrapunji for an excursion. The place is commonly called Sohra. A full-day tour begins with a visit to the Nohkalikai Falls. The tallest plunge waterfall in India is impressive.

Then, a visit to the attractive cave called Mawsmai Cave. The fully lit cave in its natural formation makes it distinct from other caves. This cave is home to bats, insects, and some flora species.

A tour of the Thangkharang Park famous for its natural scenery of plains and green valleys and Kynrem Falls. The Khoh Ramrah Rock popularly called Shiva rock is another attraction here. The park is home to various species of plants and trees. A great place to get a close-up sight of Bangladesh plains.

The tour ends with a visit to the Seven Sister Waterfalls (Nohsngithiang Falls). The waterfall plunges from a high and rocky cliff in seven stages naming it seven sister waterfalls. The three-tier waterfall Elephant Falls is at the foot of an elephant-shaped stone. The attractive part of this waterfall is that it falls in three successions. The waterfall view looks stunning from different vantage points.

Day 01 : Arrival Guwahati

Arrive Guwahati Airport / Railway Station and meet our executive and after a warm welcome drive to Hotel and check in. After a little refreshment visit Sankardev kalashetra, Basistha Ashram, Science Museum and Balaji Temple (All depends on time). Evening is free over night stay

Day 02: Guwahati - Shillong

Morning after breakfast visit Maa Khamakhya Temple. After that directly proceed to Shillong (Shillong is also called ‘Scotland of the East”). En-route visit Umiam Lake, Water Skiing, Water scooter & other water sports activities. Arrive at Shillong and check in at hotel. After refreshment visit Don Bosco Museum, Ward’s Lake and Cathedral Church (If time permits). Evening you can go for shopping at Police Bazar. Overnight stay at hotel in Shillong.

Day 03: Excursion to Cherrapunji

After breakfast get ready for Cherrapunjee, sight scene on the way visit Shillong Peak, Shillong Church, Rabindranath Tagore House. After breakfast, visit the Kamakhya Temple. And then you'll be transferred to Shillong. On the way, visit Umiam Lake and the beautiful and popular Ward’s Lake. In the evening, you can stroll around the local market. Overnight stay in Shillong.

Today after breakfast, you’ll be driven to visit the local-sightseeing areas in Shillong such as The famous Elephant Falls, Shillong Peak, Don Bosco Museum, Cathedral of Mary Help of Christian, Butterfly Museum etc (as per time permits). Then return to the Police Bazaar for shopping and evening enjoyment. Overnight stay in Shillong.

Today after breakfast, you will drive to Dawki. There you can visit the Umngot river, famous for boating, Jaflong Zero Point at the India-Bangladesh border, and Dawki river, and then you will drive to Mawlynnong. After reaching there you will visit the Root Bridge, and later head out for local sightseeing in the cleanest village in Asia, and then you will be driven to Cherrapunji. Overnight stay in Cherrapunji.

After breakfast, visit the Nohkalikai Waterfalls, Krem Mawmluh Cave, Mawsmai Cave, Seven Sister Falls and Eco Park. Then you will be transferred to Guwahati. Check in at the hotel and stay overnight.

Today will be the last day of this tour. After having breakfast in the hotel, depending on your flight/train timing, you can visit the local market and en-route sightseeing points also. Itinerary Details

At first, get greeted by arriving at the Guwahati station/airport and then proceed to Shillong . The duration to reach this attractive hill station of Shillong is 3.5 hours.

En route, explore Borapani Lake, the largest artificial lake in the Meghalaya  state. It is also called as the Umiam Lake as it is fully covered by Sylvian hills .

When you reach Shillong , check in at the hotel and get relaxed. Later stay for the whole night at the hotel. 

After finishing breakfast in the morning, take a short trip to the wettest place on earth known as Cherrapunjee .

These places are located at a distance of 60 km and en route, check out limestone caves, several waterfalls, striking Root Bridge and another natural spot to offer several tasks.

Do explore the Mawsmai cave, Thangkharang Park and the Seven Sisters Falls . Get back to Shillong in the evening.

Finally, visit the beautiful Elephanta Falls and the popular Shillong Peak , which gives a great sight. Afterward, return to the hotel and stay for the full night at the Shillong Hotel.

Start the day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Then have a short tour of Mawlynong . The specialty of this place is that it is considered as the cleanest village in Asia .

Airport Pickup, Guwahati to Shillong (100km/4hrs)

We will pick you up at the Guwahati international airport and take you to Shillong; the “Scotland of the East” located around 100 kilometres away from Guwahati. On the midway to Shillong, there is a beautiful lake known as Umiam Lake famous for picturesque landscape. We will stop there to enjoy the view and then continue our journey towards Shillong. After reaching Shillong, if there is enough time we will show you the local places in the city like the Wards Lake, Don Bosco Museum and Lady Hydari Park. You will stay for the night at Shillong.

Shillong to Mawlynnong & Dawki Sightseeing, Mawlynnong to Cherrapunji (245km/9hrs)

Our next will begin with journey towards Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia. The places to visit in Mawlynnong are: a living root bridge and of course the village itself. Then we will move to Dawki, a town very near to Mawlynnong and famous for Umngot River and Dawki Bridge. Also, it is at the border of India and Bangladesh. From there we will take you to the beautiful Cherrapunji. The stay will be Cherrapunji.

Cherrapunji Sightseeing (60km/7hrs)

The next day will be a complete sightseeing day of Cherrapunji, the wettest place on Earth. Famous for the rains of the summer Cherrapunji is a beauty to enjoy. The sightseeing of Cherrapunji includes the Mawsmai caves, the Seven Sister waterfalls, the Nohkalikai waterfalls and the living root bridges. The complete day will be day of enjoyment of a weather you never witnessed in a place you never visited. The stay will be at Cherrapunji.

Cherrapunji to Kaziranga (370km/9hrs)

370 kilometres away from Cherrapunji, there is waiting a different weather to welcome you with cool breeze and smell of fresh tea leaves. We are talking about Kaziranga of Assam, famous for the one horned rhinoceros. We will start our journey there next morning. It will be a day of enjoyment of roadside views, curly roads, plain paddy fields and green hills. After reaching Kaziranga if time permits, we will show the local spots and stay for the night there.

Kaziranga Sightseeing (80km/8hrs)

The next day will be full of excitements as you will be going to see many wildlife species in a same day. The day will start at the early morning with the elephant safaris. You will enjoy the wildlife on the back of an elephant. You will also get a visit to the park in the afternoon on the jeep. SO, it will be a complete day of fun. Other sightseeing of the places like the orchid garden, the ethnic village, the local village and the tea gardens will also be done on that day. Also, do not forget to enjoy the traditional Assamese cuisine with different fish curries in the meantime. The stay will be at Kaziranga.

Kaziranga to Guwahati (240km/5hrs)

Next day we will take you to Guwahati. After reaching there, we will take you out for sightseeing of the city. Guwahati is called as the gateway of Northeast. With the beautiful views by the side of the river Brahmaputra, there are many places to check out in this city. The Kamakhya temple, Umanada – the smallest river island in the world, river cruise of the great river Brahmaputra, Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra and Balaji temple are some of the beauties to check out in Guwahati. The stay will be at Guwahati.

Guwahati Sightseeing, Airport Drop (100km/7hrs)

After complete sightseeing of the city and the local places, we will drop you at the airport on the said time of this day. A memorable trip of the north-east India will end here.

We have planned for Kaziranga Jungle Safari for long and our first day was in Kaziranga Jungle and on the next day early morning we took the famous Kaziranga Elephant Safari . It was only once in a life time experience as we could see the One Horn Rhinos just from few metre distance. In the afternoon, we took the Kaziranga Jeep Safari in the central range and that too was great experience. We stayed in a nice resort close to Kaziranga Western Range and resort was very beautiful with nice ambience, food and service were extremely good. Next day, we started for Western Aurnachal and we visited Bomdila, Tawang, Diranga and Bhalukpong and overall Arunachal experience was also very good. Thank you NatureWings for providing best experience in our North East Package.

We had visit the Kaziranga forest with Naturewings this January and it was an awesome experience. Kaziranga Sanctuary has a variety of flora and fauna, the one horn rhino, tiger and elephants could be seen from here, with a variety of birds. We woke up early in the morning that day for the Kaziranga elephant safari, it was about an hour we had the trip. We had the luck to see the Rhinos just at a few meters of distance from us. After finishing the safari we had a great breakfast at our hotel (which was booked by Naturewings team) and went for a drive to the part of the Kaziranga, Kaziranga Central range to enjoy the Jeep Safari in Kaziranga through the dense forest. NatureWings has arranged everything perfectly for Kaziranga Jungle Safari and we had a really good time there and highly satisfied with service of NatureWings. Will recommend all of my friends or family to go with them only.

Kaziranga is the best place to spot endangered One Horned Rhino. This sanctuary is divided in 4 ranges and the western and central ranges are the best to spot the Rhinos. It has to be done through the Kaziranga Jeep Safari in central range or the Kaziranga Elephant Safari in western range which anyone will love to go for. The elephant safari gets start by 5.30 in the morning and tickets were arranged by Naturewings team. We had a zeep safari so got a chance to see the lush greenery of the dense forest from the close. We spotted the tiger from a long distance luckily and got the glimpse of the famous one horn rhino. The best part of the trip is we avail the full service of Naturewings which was extremely satisfactory and hassle free. We thank Mr. Raha and his team for all their help and making our trip memorable.

Remarkable Experience, It was my first visit with NatureWings to Shillong, Cherapunji & most importantly Kaziranga National Park in the mid Feb. The best part to highlight is about Kaziranga Elephant Safari in Bagori Range though we have experience both Kaziranga Jeep Safari & Elephant Safari . But Elephant Safari was really unforgettable; It gives us better view of One-horned Rhino, dense forest & other wildlife. We must suggest all to visit Kaziranga National park and experience Kaziranga Jungle Safari and get the experience of staying at the forest. Last but not the least, I would like to give special thanks to NatureWings team who just haven't book the perfect hotels and all other arrangements, they have taken care of every small points and organised perfectly which made our trip a remarkable one.

Upon your arrival at the Guwahati Airport/Railway station, you will meet our representatives. They will transfer you to Shillong. On the way to Shillong, you will be stopping at Umiam Lake and have a glimpse of the mesmerizing views of fruit and pickle stall. Once you arrive at the hotel, you can complete all the check-in formalities and then go for a refreshment. Day 01: ARRIVAL GUWAHATI – SHILLONG (100 kms / 3 hrs Drive)

Welcome to Guwahati. Meet and be assisted by our representative at the Airport & proceed to Shillong, also called “Scotland of the East” . En route visit:

Barapani (Umiam Lake) :  As per the legends, two heavenly sisters decided to make their way to Meghalaya. However, one of them had reached the destination and the other could not due to some reason. So the former could not traced out her sister and started crying with her broken heart. She cried so much that and a lake was formed with her tears. Locally known as Umiam Lake, Barapani means vast waters. Today it becomes a hub for the water sports activities such as speed boats, sailboats and water scooters. Adjoining to the lake, the Nehru Park offers an aviary and a collection of orchids and butterflies.

Arrive Shillong and check in at hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02: SHILLONG – CHERRAPUNJEE – SHILLONG (60 Kms 1 way / 1 ½ hrs drive) Morning after breakfast full day excursion to Cherrapunjee.

Cherrapunjee  is a small hamlet, situated at an altitude of about 4823 feet (1484 m). Locally known as ‘SOHRA’. Cherrapunjee is located in the southern most point of Khasi hill sharing the border of Sylhet district of Bangladesh. Cherrapunji offers a panoramic view of the hilly terrains, deep gorges and valleys with its spectacular waterfalls. It was once having the record of being the wettest place on earth, with an average rainfall of about 1150ms. However, this record has been overtaken by a nearby place Mawsynram.

In Cherrapunjee visit:

Shillong Peak :  It is the highest point of Shillong, located in the upper Shillong an an altitude of 1961 meters (6,433 feet). The name Shillong originated from “Leishyllong” meaning god who is believed to live on the Shillong peak, overlooking the city. It is located 5 kilometers away from Shillong and on a clear day one can enjoy the beautiful view of the entire city.

Elephant Falls :  Located in the Upper Shillong 10 kms away from the Shillong town it is  one of the majestic waterfalls in Meghalaya. The water of this three steps falls comes down in flows from different levels over the fern-covered rocks and falls into the canyon down below. In the morning it forms a wonderful sight when the sun rays fall on the cascades of water creating the rainbow colors. The best time to visit the waterfalls is during the monsoon when it offers a breath-taking scenery. The forests covered with ferns and thick bamboo grooves are also worth visited for the nature lovers to find the presence of various species of butterflies, birds and orchids.

Nohkalikai falls:  This waterfall located 4 kms away from Cherrapunjee and is possibly between 1500 and 2000 feet tall. Known to be the fourth longest fall in the world it carries a pathetic legend behind its name. A woman named Ka Likai had a illegitimate child. After marriage the husband became jealous of her love for her daughter. One day Ka Likai was out for work and her husband killed the daughter, cooked her flesh into a meal. When the woman inquired about her daughter, her husband showed the sign of ignorance. Before she went to look for her daughter, she thought of eating something and had the meal that her husband prepared for her. After having the meal she found both the wrist of her daughter in the betel-nut basket. Then she realized what had happened, killed her husband with a dagger and threw herself off this cliff  of this falls.  This is how the falls got its name which means “Fall of Ka Likai.”

Nohsngithiang Falls (also known as the Seven Sisters Waterfalls or Mawsmai Falls)

Mawsmai Cave:  This 250m long cave is the major attraction for the tourists in Cherrapunjee. This cave is located 6 kms away from Cherrapunjee near to Mawsmai village. This natural limestone cave is wide enough for a person to walk comfortably, and one can see the myriads of stalagmites and stalactites all over the caves which are growing gradually. The caves are dark inside and electric torches are installed for the convenient of the tourists.

Eco Park: The Eco Park has been designed by the Meghalaya government to facilitate tourist to enjoy the ‘Green Canyons” ofSohra as well as the waterfalls that lie around it. There is a stream inside the park and one has to cross a bridge to get near the edge of the canyon.

The scenic beauty from the edge is awe inspiring. On the other side of the Eco Park is a view point to see the Bangladesh plains. The Eco Park also houses a wide variety of orchids, courtesy the Shillong Agri-Horticultural society.

Later return to Shillong. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03: SHILLONG – MAWLLYNNONG VILLAGE – DAWKI – SHILLONG (110 Kms / 3 Hrs Drive) After breakfast visit the cleanest village in India.This cute and colorful little village is known for its cleanliness. It is situated 90 kms. from Shillong and besides the picturesque village, offers many interesting sights such as the living root bridge and another strange natural phenomenon of a boulder balancing on another rock. It is along the Indo-Bangladesh border. We will explore from here Dawki.

Dawki lies 2 Kms from Bangladesh. Dawki is a small village and its main attraction is the Umngot River that marks the natural separation between the Khasi and the Jaintia Hills. The river can be forded by a suspension bridge that connects India to Bangladesh and facilitates trade between the two nations. The Umngot is the site for a boat race that is held in March-April, but even otherwise, seeing this large emerald-green serpent threading its way through the hills, with fishermen’s boats dotting its surface, right into the plains of Bangladesh, is a sight whose majesty echoes long after you leave it.

Evening we will return back to Shillong. Overnight in Shillong.

Day 04: SHILLONG LOCAL SIGHTSEEING Morning after breakfast full day city tour of Shillong visiting:

Donbosco Museum

Wards Lake :  Wards Lake is located in the heart of the Shillong City adjoining to the Governor’s Residence. Shaped like a horseshoe, it is one of the prominent hang-out spot in Shillong. This century old lake was built by an engineer named Mr. Pollock. Hence it is also known to be as “Polok’s Lake”. One can opt for boating and pleasant walks on the cobbled sand stone pathways covered with varieties of flowers. The lake also has an arched bridge from where one can feed the fish.

Lady Hyadri Park & Botanical Garden

Cathedral of Mary Help of Christian:    Situated in At Laitumkhrah, it is the largest Cathedral in Meghalaya attracts thousands of devotees. The colorful glasses of the skylight window along with the paintings of the Jesus spreading the messages of God are influenced by the European art and architecture.

Shillong Golf Course :  Shillong Golf Course is termed as the “Glen-eagle of the East” at the United States Golf Association Museum. The Golf Course is situated in a valley covered with thick groves of pine and rhododendron trees at an altitude of 5200 ft. Previously it was a nine hole course and later converted into a eighteen  hole course in 1924 by Captain Jackson and C. K. Rhodes. It is the third oldest Golf Course in India.

Evening you are free for leisure or you can do local shopping in the famous markets of Shillong (Police Bazar, Bara Bazar) .Overnight at hotel of Shillong.

Day 05: SHILLONG – GUWAHATI DEPARTURE (100 Kms, 3 hrs drive)

Morning after breakfast, check-out from the Hotel & depart for Guwahati Airport/Railway Station for onward journey, en-route visit the the following attractions:

Kamakhya Temple:  The origin of Kamakhya Temple is pre Aryan situated atop the Nilachal Hill. The formost shrine of Assam, The Kamakhya is an ancient seat of Tantric and shakti Cults of Hinduism. The original temple was destroyed by the invading Muslims in their crusade against Hindu temples and idols in the early part of 16th century. Ultimately it was restored from ruins by King Naranarayan of the Koch dynasty and rebuilt in its present forming 1665 AD.

Shankardev Kalakshetra:  a place where Assamese history and culture is depicted in a sprawling open enclosure. It has a beautiful museum where they preserved the masks (these masks are made in Majuli island), the traditional dresses and jewellery of the entire North East India. A Namghar (Assamese prayer Hall) and an open air theater has been constructed to perform the plays and other cultural activities during festivals.

• Kajaawa will provide accommodation as per the hotels in the list and in case the listed hotels cannot be provided for any reason like unavailability, scheduled or general maintenance, accident at the hotel, risky road conditions due to bad weather or political disturbance, similar hotels will be provided and you will be informed about the changes in advance.
• In Deluxe and Premium Tour Packages, we will generally arrange Deluxe and Premium Hotels but in interior places, we will arrange Homestays, Guest Houses or Standard Hotels as Deluxe and Premium accommodations may not be available in the interiors for any reason.
• In case of any unforeseen situations which is beyond our control including bad weather conditions, political disturbance etc., we may change your itinerary or dates of travel.
• Travellers may have to bear additional expenses in case of natural calamity including situations like change in the hotel, change in tour date etc.

Confirmation Policy

• You have to pay 50% of the total tour cost at the time of booking.
• After paying 50% you will receive an invoice of your payment and also booking confirmation details containing your detailed travel itinerary and hotel information.

Cancellation Policy

• 25% of the total cost, if the tour is cancelled 30 days before the tour starts.
• 50% of the total cost, if the tour is cancelled 15-30 days before the tour starts.
• 100% of the total cost, if the tour is cancelled 0-15 days before the tour starts.

Payment Policy

• 100% of the tour cost has to be paid 1 (one) week before the tour starts.

Refund Policy

• Refunds will be processed within 7 (seven) business days in the customer's bank account.
