The app is designed to be used offline so No Data Plan or Internet is Needed, and No Roaming either. The app is free to download. Afterwards, you can evaluate the walking tours - see the attractions and use the fully functional offline maps included in each of the city walk guides, all for free. A small payment – fraction of what you would normally pay for a guided group tour or tour bus tickets – is needed for accessing the walk route maps and activating turn-by-turn navigation functions. The highlights and features of the FREE app include: * Thousands of self-guided walking tours that show you what to see in the destination. * Thousands of travel articles make planning a trip really easy. * Offline city maps. * The "FindMe" feature displaying your exact location on the map. * The "TrackMe" feature tracks your steps so you know where you have been. After upgrade, you have access to the following advanced features: * Walking tour maps. * Voice guided turn-by-turn travel directions. * Create your own walks to see the attractions you like. * No advertisement. This app supports subscription which allows you to access all the walking tours and articles in this app at one low price. How The Annual Subscription Works: * Option 1. Your account will not be charged anything as long as you cancel the subscription at least 24 hours before the end of the Free Trial. * Your annual subscription will automatically renew unless auto-renewal is canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current subscription period. * Payment will be charged to your iTunes Account at the confirmation of the subscription purchase or after the Free Trial has completed. * You may turn off the auto-renewal at any time from your iTunes account settings. Terms of Use: https://www.gpsmycity.com/terms.html Privacy Policy: https://www.gpsmycity.com/privacy-policy.html Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. This app gives you the option to turn off the GPS tracking in the background to prolong the battery life. It is also suggested that you bring with you an external battery. Note: This app relies on GPS for its navigation functions. For best experience, it is recommended to use the app on iPhone and iPad cellular+WiFi models. It is not recommended to use the app on iPad WiFi-only models due to lack of built-in GPS support in these models. Tutorial videos for using this app can be found on our website at https://www.gpsmycity.com/mobile-app.html

Version 5.0.6

- Improved Findme and audio functions. - Many small UI/UX enhancements. - Fixed some bugs.

Ratings and Reviews

Wonderful idea. solid info. buggy execution..

Let me stare up top I paid for the pro version. This app is overall a wonderful idea. The tours and walking maps are too notch. The information and depth of guides available is amazing. It has SO much potential and is a great value. That being said, a lot of the design choices are just not intuitive, user friendly, and in some cases are downright buggy. Example? There is no way to turn off audio when starting a route to a location. Each time you need to do if manually. Also, when downloading the map, you get a notice that the map is in your downloads… but you can’t exit out of that notice until you close and reopen the app. There are dozens of minor annoyances like that that would take too long to list. At the end of the day though, I have used this for about 6 cities, and have appreciated the content But I hope they do a redesign to make it less glitchy and more intuitive. This app has potential to become really big if they do.

Cheaper than a guided tour

Okay, I see some negative reviews about the map and the clunky app, but I have to say for the price, and yes, including the new yearly subscription, it’s still very worth it. I have used 6 of the paid tours and a few free ones with GPSmyCity. I started with the free, but when I paid for the upgrades (less than $5 at the time), I was pleased. Because I travel at least once or twice a year, I’m willing to pay the subscription mainly to support the team. I just recently came back from Florence where my wife and I spent over $200 for a private guided walking tour that included a fantastic lunch. No complaints, the guide was great and we learned a lot, but it was only 4 hours long and we were at his mercy. For less than $20 using this app, we would’ve been able to map out the tour we wanted, read in advance, and take our time. Yes, you can use Google and Pocket Earth and other free tools, but come on - for $20 you can get a well organized and fun tour with a pretty decent offline map. Spending hundreds in flight and hotels, I don’t $20 for something that would cost 3 times or more for a true guided tour. Oh, and the support team has been awesome for times when I did have problems with the app. I’ve been using them for years and will continue to do so. Don’t let the few negative ads steer you away - give it a shot...

Adore this app!

I downloaded this app a few days ago, and started using it to plan a multi- city trip to Europe. Wow! I love this app - it makes planning super easy. I’ve been traveling far and wide, both professionally and personally, for years. I’ve planned complex trips, and know how overwhelming it can get. So many places to see in so little time, and so sometimes tough to determine which sights to see, and the best route to take when sights to visit are scattered all over a city. Well, this app makes all of this easy, and fun! Great descriptions and photos of all sights, which ones are “must see sights”, ability to add your own sights (like your hotel). The app determines the best route and how long it will take you. There are tons of wonderful canned walks based on categories like “city overview,” “ museums,” “architecture,” etc. and the ability to create customized walks. If you love to travel, this tool will become an addiction. I tried the free version and then decided to upgrade to the full version because the route creation aspect is fantastic.

Let's explore New York City! Sightseeing tours

Your amazing support and kind contributions allows me to produce NYC content daily. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to transport this beautiful City, which we all love, into your homes!

Hi, my friends,

My name is Kelly Kopp. of also known as New York City Kopp on all my social media.

I moved to this amazing city 11 years ago and I am loving every moment of it. I love to share my knowledge of the city with everyone. I design my tours to be fun, informative, and interactive. I want everyone to have a good time and come away with great memories. I also believe we do not have to speak the same language to have a fun tour, because laughter is universal.

Tour Guide/Professional Photographer

I am both a licensed New York City tour guide and a published, professional photographer, who enjoys exploring every part of the city. Every photo on this site has been taken by me; in fact you may have seen some of my photos on Instagram . Additionally, my photos were featured in the 2017 book New York City on Instagram . My favorite Statue of Liberty photo is also featured in the 2019 book The Statue of Liberty: The Monumental Dream in the Statue of Liberty Museum on Liberty Island. My work also has been featured in magazines, and now a few upcoming 2023 New York City photography books! I feel my work as a photographer really enhances your tour experience. As I guide you about the city, and I also guide you in taking the perfect photos each and every time. For those of you who would like to be photographed: you're in luck. I am there to take your photo with some of the most amazing backdrops in the world. You'll return home and show all your friends and family what an awesome New York City photographer you are!

Social Media

I am active on Instagram , Facebook , and Twitter . You will always find me no matter what social media platform I am on, because my name for each of these sites is "newyorkcitykopp." I do live videos all over New York City three days a week on my New York City Kopp Facebook page.  Recently I was on CNN discussing the 2019 New York City blackout. Aside from my videos being informative and entertaining, I also love interacting with people, such as yourself, from all over the world. My videos are very helpful with New York City tips and suggestions. They can help you get ideas of the places you want to see and the photos you may want to take. I am here to help you truly enjoy New York City and have fun with you along the way. Hope to see you soon!

New York City Kopp Tour Information

Hi Everyone, Hope all is great! I’m really looking forward to your tour!

When you book a tour I want you to choose your available options from the drop down list, and I can work on your itinerary from those choices. If you have ideas that aren’t listed, choose "other option", and we hopefuly make your option work if possible!

When you book a tour I always offer peope the option to meet at their hotel lobby, or at a coffee shop a half an hour prior to the tour to touch base. We will go over your itinerary, and discuss NYC tips and tidbits. We will then walk to the first destination or take the subway, whichever is more time efficient. When we do take the subway I will show you how to get your metro card, and if you decide to use your Credit Card or Apple Pay stored in your phone I will show you how to use that.  I’ll help you decide which is the best option for you!

PLEASE wear very comfortable sneakers. I recommend putting pads in your shoes, too . Carry these items with you as well…bandaids/plasters (on your heels to prevent blisters), sun screen, sun glasses, hat, bottled water, snacks, a little towel, a little umbrella.

During the tour if you decide to eat, or get quick snack, that will not take away time from your tour.  You get a full 2, 4, or 6 hours of sight seeing!

My goal is for you to enjoy the City while I lead the way. I want you to love the City as much as I do. Something tells me you already do though!  I will also take as many photos of you with my cell phone as you want PLUS I'll get fun videos at your favorite locations. You will receive your photos & videos via Google link with 36 hours. My philosophy is one can never take too many photos or videos of you with New York City behind you…so ask away!

Please let me know if you have made plans after the tour so I can be extremely mindful of your time.  If there’s anything you want to ask, talk about, please don’t hesitate to ask at any time! We do your tour rain or shine!

I went on the 21 day Full Cyote trip from New York to San Francisco with my brother. With such a packed itinerary of included activities, it offered great value for money. The guides in every region we visited were excellent. A particular shout out to Ryan, who added in extra stops and experiences based on the group's interests. Other highlights included the Grand Canyon, Washington's museums, whale watching in Boston, cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge and sunset in Griffeths Park. I met a great group of people on the trip, and I wouldn't hesitate to book with the Cyote Trip again.

Why This Unique Tour In Rome Was My Favorite Way To Explore The City

R ome has a rich history and vibrant culture that can transport you to a different era. Long before I ever visited Rome, what I knew of the ancient city came from the movies. I’m a classic movie buff, and Roman Holiday , the 1953 romantic comedy, is my favorite film.

The story unfolds as Princess Ann, who, during a visit to Rome, escapes her guardians to explore the city. Enter a handsome newspaper reporter who whisks her away on the back of his Vespa. I’ll never forget the images of iconic landmarks in the eternal city whizzing by as the movie unfolds.

On a recent visit, I found that exploring Rome by Vespa Sidecar Tour can make you feel like you’re living a similar fantasy.

My private Vespa Sidecar Tour was provided by Anantara Palazzo Naiadi as part of a hosted stay at the beautiful hotel. As always, all opinions are my own.

The Vespa Sidecar Tour

The Vespa Sidecar tour offers a unique way to discover the city’s famous landmarks, hidden gems, and picturesque squares. As you motor through the bustling city, you can imagine yourself as Audrey Hepburn’s character, Princess Ann, embarking on her own Roman adventure.

The company’s owner, Luca Di Trapano, explained that the Vespa Sidecar Tour was born in a flash of inspiration after 2 decades of giving tours in Rome. He thought the concept was genius but later learned his idea was 45 years too late.

The makers of the Vespa stopped producing the model equipped with a sidecar in 1968. Not easily deterred, he persevered and brought his dream to reality. Since 2018, Luca has welcomed over 20,000 passengers on board without a single accident. He told me, “It is like having sailed through the streets of Rome with four or five gigantic cruise ships!”

The tours are 3 hours, depending on traffic. The price is 110 euros per person (about $117) on the small group tour (12 guests max). You can take the tour solo as I did or with a companion or group. Trade places halfway through for a new perspective. A private tour’s price depends on the number of guests.

Here are several reasons why you should explore Rome on this unique Vespa tour.

Easy Meeting Point

Piazza della Repubblica is the tour meeting point. The square is well-connected and easy for drop-offs by taxis and vehicles. Take the subway Line A to the Repubblica-Teatro dell’Opera stop. It’s just a 2-minute walk from the Central Termini Railway Station.

Pro Tip: If you want somewhere to stay close by, I recommend Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel . A restored 19th-century, crescent-shaped palazzo, it fronts Piazza della Repubblica, where the Vespa tour starts. At the assigned time, I met my guide, Alessio, at the concierge desk. My chariot, i.e. baby blue Vespa, was waiting just outside.

The Iconic Landmarks Of Rome

Exploring the highlights of the Eternal City, we visited 12 sights, including the Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo, and the Borghese Gardens. There were several opportunities to stop, stretch our legs, and linger, including the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon.

It’s A Blast!

When exploring the beautiful city of Rome, I loved all the astonished looks on people’s faces as we made our way down tight alleys and broad avenues. I felt like a movie star — everyone was smiling, waving, and snapping our photo. We must have been quite a sight; something special to share with family members when you get home.

Avoid The Crowds

What’s the best way to avoid crowds and see a different side of Rome? See it on a Vespa! If you’re fearless, you could rent one yourself. But my advice? Enlist a pro. You will feel much safer riding next to or behind someone who understands the ins and outs of Rome’s streets, where locals think traffic lanes are merely suggestions.

It’s A Beautiful Ride

The Vespa is a classic: These stunning coupes from Italy are iconic on the streets of Rome. Piaggio & Co. started making the Vespa after WWII as cheap, affordable transportation. Eventually, in 1953, the hit movie Roman Holiday showed the world how great a Vespa could be, resulting in record sales. Like the Colosseum, the Italian scooter has remained a part of Italy’s landscape. You will feel like an authentic Italian in the sidecar of a Vespa.

Unique And Unforgettable Way To See The Eternal City

Unlike larger vehicles, a Vespa can easily maneuver through tight spaces, allowing you to see more of the city’s hidden gems and local hotspots. As you zip through the streets, you’ll experience the city in an exciting and unique way. Your guide will share his knowledge of the city’s history and culture, providing insights into the backstories of the pivotal figures in the Roman Empire.

A Driver And Official Guide Rolled Into One

My driver, Alessio, wasn’t just a history buff: He’s also an official guide, which means he’s been trained to lead tours and provide in-depth information on all the sites you’ll see. He knows how to keep you engaged, entertained, and informed, making your Vespa tour an unforgettable experience. Throughout the tour, he shared fascinating facts, historical anecdotes, and his favorite neighborhoods and restaurants. With his expertise and passion for sharing the city’s rich history, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind adventure that you’ll remember for years to come.

Radio-Connected Modern Whispers

As we cruised along the streets of Rome, Alessio provided commentary directly into my ear through a modern whisper system. He pointed out the window overlooking St. Peter’s Square where the Pope makes his Sunday address. It was chilling to see the balcony above the Piazza Venezia, where Mussolini delivered his most famous speech, the declaration of war on France and Britain in 1940.

A Sense Of Freedom And Excitement

Take in Rome’s sights, sounds, and smells from the open-air Vespa sidecar. You can enjoy the warm breeze on your face, witness the daily life of Romans, and immerse yourself in the city’s timeless beauty.

Pro Tip: Three hours is about the right amount of time to get a taste of Rome. I saw much more than I would in a walking tour, and it was a better experience than a hop-on, hop-off bus tour — we could go where large coaches could not.

I Felt Safe

The guides are expert drivers and the top-class helmets have face shields and disposable head covers. The passenger wears a seatbelt with a shoulder harness. We traveled at the most 24 miles per hour; just the right pace. Once you are on board, your unease fades away as you sit back, hold on, and enjoy the thrill of exploring Rome on a Vespa.

The Hidden Gems Of Rome

Rome is one of the most beautiful places in Italy and a real bucket-list destination. But allow some time to visit the hidden gems many tourists miss. Janiculum Hill, called the “Eighth Hill of Rome,” is a beautiful, often overlooked area with the best views of Rome. It’s a bit of a climb on foot, but on a Vespa, sit back and enjoy the ride. Piazzale Garibaldi in the center has the Giuseppe Garibaldi Monument with a cannon that fires daily at noon. Don’t miss the 17th-century Aqua Paola Fountain.

Cappuccino And Cornetto

After visiting the Pantheon, we stopped for a cappuccino and cornetto, the traditional Roman breakfast choice. Our baby blue Vespa was parked nearby and I enjoyed watching how much attention it got from passersby. On the afternoon tours, customers are offered gelato instead.

Unforgettable Experience

This is the perfect gift for someone who has done everything and an unforgettable experience for curious travelers of all ages. You will carry home remarkable moments and fun memories.

Would I recommend Vespa Sidecar Tour? Absolutely. If this had been my first time in Rome, it would have given me a good overview of the places I would like to return to for a deeper dive. I have been to Rome several times, but until now, I’ve never seen the eternal beauty of Rome from the seat of a Vespa sidecar. And the coin I tossed into the Trevi Fountain guarantees I’ll be back.

The 8 Best Hotels in Paris

A sunny day looking over the river in Paris, France with old buildings in the background

Paris is one of my favorite cities in the world. It’s a city I’ve visited countless times, I lived there, I’ve run tours there. I’m one of those people who thinks it lives up to all the hype.

But, it’s also a huge, sprawling city with 20 different neighborhoods and hundreds of hotels ( here’s my neighborhood by neighborhood breakdown of the city ).

I field a lot of questions on what area of the city to stay in (answered in the above post).

But, in this post, I want to talk about my favorite hotels. I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels in Paris. Some good, some really terrible. To help you plan your trip, here’s my list of the best hotels in Paris:

1. Hotel Bar Paris Bastille

A clean, modern, and comfortable hotel room at the Oh La La hotel in Paris, France

I think this is one of the best value places in the area. It has a bar on the ground floor that’s perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. It also serves a delicious breakfast spread, with lots of variety (including fresh bread and croissants, pancakes, eggs, and cheese).

2. Hôtel Minerve

A small but cozy boutique hotel room at Hotel Minerve in Paris, France

The recently refurbished rooms are small but comfortable and include common perks like a flatscreen TV, desk, AC, and free Wi-Fi. The bathrooms, while also small, are pristine and have rainfall showers with excellent water pressure. The rooms are well soundproofed too, though the hotel is on a quieter street so there’s little traffic noise. I think this is the best budget choice for travelers who want something affordable but prefer not to stay in a hostel.

3. Pavillon de la Reine

A bright and spacious hotel room at the Pavillion de la Reine hotel in Paris, France

The rooms are all uniquely and lavishly decorated, with aristocratic furnishings like elaborate chandeliers and fine art on the fabric-coated walls. All rooms are comfortable and quiet, and while they aren’t huge, they offer lots of natural light from the enormous windows. Each room has AC, free Wi-Fi, a minibar, desk, and flatscreen TV. The bathrooms are spacious and feature elegant tiles as well as upscale bath products. Breakfast isn’t included, and while it’s not cheap it is exceptional (the on-site Michelin-starred restaurant is worth a visit if you want to splash out). Paris has some luxury places and I think this is one of the best if you’re looking to spend some dough.

4. Le Relais Montmartre

A colorful hotel room with antique touches at the Le Relais hotel in Paris, France

Like most hotels in Paris, the rooms here aren’t huge, but they are colorful and bright. They also include free Wi-Fi, a coffee/tea maker, minibar, desk, and flatscreen TV. The bathrooms are a bit dated, but everything is clean and the water pressure is great. The hotel is just a three-minute walk to the Moulin Rouge too, so you really can’t beat this location. It’s also one of the most affordable hotels in the area, especially for the class of service you get.

5. Hôtel Wyld Saint Germain

A funky and colorful hotel room at Hotel Wyld in Paris, France

Rooms feature a flatscreen TV, electric kettle, and free Wi-Fi. They’re not huge, but they are well-designed and have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Some rooms also have balconies. The bathrooms, while also small, have modern fixtures and colorful tiles. The showers have good water pressure too.

6. Pullman Paris Tour Eiffel

A sleek and modern hotel room near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France

Decorated in a contemporary style, rooms feature comfy beds, a desk, flatscreen TVs with Chromecast, Nespresso machines, Alexa docking stations, and plush bathrobes. The bathrooms are large, with roomy walk-in rain showers that have excellent water pressure. If you want to stay near the Eiffel Tower, stay here.

7. Hôtel Thérèse

A cozy hotel room with a queen sized bed, soft lighting, a painting on the walls, and pastel colors throughout in Paris, France

The rooms are compact (but that’s to be expected in such a central location) and feature classy décor with unique artwork curated by the owners. All rooms include a desk, Bluetooth speakers, flatscreen TV with Chromecast, a minibar, and plush bathrobes. The bathrooms are also quite small, but they’re sparkling clean with walk-in showers and luxury bath products. It’s one of my absolute favorite places to stay in the city.

8. Hotel du Louvre

A Parisian hotel room with a queen sized bed, painting on the wall, and an open window showing the iconic architecture of Paris in the background

The rooms are stylishly decorated and bright and airy thanks to the large windows. They’re well insulated too so you don’t hear a lot of noise from the street. All rooms have a mini fridge, a minibar, flatscreen TV, electric kettle and Nespresso machine, and a desk. The bathrooms are huge with luxury bath products, robes, and slippers. This is a really nice choice for a higher-end stay in the heart of the city.

Paris is meant to be unraveled, to be explored at a leisurely pace as you meander its winding streets. But it’s also a large, sprawling city with tons of places to stay. By choosing from one of the hotels above, you’ll set yourself up for a memorable trip in the City of Lights.

my city tour

I've been a tour guide in Rome for 16 years. Here are 9 of the biggest mistakes tourists make.

  • Tourists visiting Rome often make mistakes that detract from their experience in the city.
  • I've worked as a tour guide here for 16 years, and many people forget to plan their trip in advance.
  • Disregarding dress codes, ignoring local customs, and booking short trips can also be mistakes.

Insider Today

My husband and I have 25 and 16 years, respectively, of guiding experience in Rome. He's a licensed guide who leads cultural, archeological, and art tours, and I am a certified sommelier who leads food and wine tours.

When visiting Rome , tourists often make several common mistakes that can detract from their experience in the Eternal City — ranging from simple cultural misunderstandings to more serious breaches of etiquette.

My husband and I often discuss some of the more frustrating things we wish guests knew before they visited. Here are the top mistakes we've seen.

Disregarding dress codes

Tourists often fail to adhere to dress codes when visiting religious sites, such as St. Peter's Basilica or the Sistine Chapel.

Wearing revealing clothing can be seen as disrespectful in these sacred spaces, so make sure to look up guidelines beforehand.

Typically, at least the knees and shoulders must be covered.

Ignoring local customs

Many visitors overlook the importance of local customs , such as greeting people with a polite "Buongiorno" in the morning and "Buonasera" in the evening.

Small gestures like this can go a long way in showing respect for Roman culture.

Not tipping their servers

Tipping is less customary in Italy than in some other countries, and it's not expected or mandatory. But leaving a few euros per person on top of the bill is considered polite in Rome.

I don't know why so many guidebooks and articles state that the "coperto" is a service charge that goes to the server. This is untrue — it covers things like the bread, olive oil, and vinegar for the restaurant.

But if you see the word "servizio" on the receipt, that money goes to the server.

Booking too short of a trip

Rome is more than just the Colosseum, Sistine Chapel, and Trevi Fountain — it deserves time. It's the Eternal City with over 2 millennia of history to get through, after all.

Confining yourself to the most heavily touristed areas usually means missing out on some authentic local experiences off the beaten path.

Many tourists are only in Rome for two or three days, which doesn't give them much time to visit lesser-known sites like Ostia Antia or contemporary museums like Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna.

As we say in Rome, "Roma, non basta una vita" ("In Rome, a lifetime is not enough"). I know people's holidays are limited, but instead of trying to visit four Italian cities in a week , maybe slow down and give Rome at least five days.

Relying solely on English

English is widely spoken in tourist areas, but learning some basic Italian phrases or using a translation app can significantly enhance your interactions with locals.

It's also a way to demonstrate respect for the host culture.

Not planning ahead

Visitors often need to pay more attention to the time and effort required to visit Rome's most popular attractions if they want to avoid long lines and frustration.

Tours of the Colosseum or Vatican often sell out months in advance.

One of my favorite websites for up-to-date advice for travelers planning trips to Rome is Rome Wise . You can find information on anything from the best cocktail bars and hotels to art exhibits and even general helpful information.

Visiting at the wrong time

If you're deciding when to come, most guidebooks and travel sites advise people to skip Rome in August.

But I think July is more unbearably hot and crowded — August is much cooler. Since more Italian people tend to be on holiday in August, it can also be less crowded.

Disrespecting art and architecture

Tourists occasionally disregard the rules against touching artwork, leaning on ancient structures, or sitting on historic fountains, which can damage these important cultural treasures.

You don't want to end up on the local news as a tourist who took a piece of marble from the Roman Forum or left graffiti on the Colosseum.

Missing out on the local cuisine

Tourists often stick to familiar dishes or opt for restaurants in high-traffic areas — missing out on the incredible diversity of Roman cuisine and the charm of neighborhood trattorias (small restaurants).

Italian food is seasonal. Rome might be famous for artichokes, but if you're eating them in June, they probably aren't local (the vegetable is only in season from February until April).

I recommend following advice from the local food experts at Casa Mia . They have excellent information on seasonal cuisine, and they offer food and wine tours.
