Van Duijvenbode wins second PDC Pro Tour title of 2022

Dirk van Duijvenbode produced some spellbinding darts to take home his second PDC Pro Tour title of 2022.

The Aubergenius’ hit four consecutive ton plus averages after the last 32, eventually whitewashing Gabriel Clemens 8-0 to win Players Championship 18 and claim his third title overall in the PDC.

For Clemens, the wait goes on for his first tournament win, however not many could have lived with the darts Van Duijvenbode threw at the Barnsley Metrodome today.

Elsewhere, runs from two players saw the Betfred World Matchplay qualification race turn dramatically, with the field now realistically playing for one last spot at the Winter Gardens.

Dirk van Duijvenbode

Genius from the Aubergenius sees Dutchman to victory

Van Duijvenbode produced wins against Connor Scutt, Ritchie Edhouse and Chris Dobey to win his board. He then produced three ton plus averages of 107.58, 105.44 and 102.25 against Peter Wright, Luke Humphries and Adrian Lewis respectively to book a place in his second floor final of the year.

Clemens beat Adam Hunt, Gordon Mathers and Geert Nentjes to make the last 16. Victories against Ryan Meikle and Daryl Gurney got him to the semi final. He had multiple match darts, but eventually came through 7-6 against Nathan Aspinall to reach his fifth floor final.

The Aubergenius continued where he left off throughout the day, holding in the first leg, before breaking to go 2-0 in front. After holding again, he punished a missed 130 outshot from Clemens to clean up 25 and go halfway to the win.

The Titan held again for 5-0, before a stunning 122 finish moved him 6-0 in front. The German Giant missed chances to get one break back in the seventh leg, but missed them. Van Duijvenbode eventually cleaned up 47 to move one away, and despite missing one match dart, eventually cleaned up 18 on double four to seal a memorable win, averaging over 100 again.

Gabriel Clemens

What else happened at the PDC Pro Tour?

Despite losing in the last four, Lewis’ run all but secured him a place in the 2022 Betfred World Matchplay. Wins over Keane Barry, Luc Peters and Danny van Trijp saw Jackpot win his board. He then beat Mickey Mansell and Andrew Gilding to reach his second Pro Tour semi final of the season, before falling to Van Duijvenbode.

Aspinall beat Jake Jones, Darren Webster and Madars Razma to reach the last 16. He followed it up with victories against Joe Cullen and Dave Chisnall, before falling to Clemens in a last leg decider.

Gilding also will not mind too much losing in the last eight to Lewis. His run at Players Championship 18 also all but booked his return to the Winter Gardens for the first time since 2015.

The rest of the field are now essentially playing for one place. Rowby-John Rodriguez overtook Ross Smith for that place on countback after day one.

Ricky Evans drops to 18th after going out in round one, while Simon Whitlock’s third round place saw him move back into contention.

Provisional field for 2022 PDC World Darts Championship after end of Pro Tour season

The provisional field for the 2021/22 PDC World Darts Championship has been confirmed after the conclusion of the ProTour season.

The top 32 in the PDC Order of Merit is of course led by Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright, Michael van Gerwen and then Dimitri van den Bergh with the Belgian set for a career high if money drops off.

This goes down to Chris Dobey, Damon Heta and Kim Huybrechts who this year will be seeded after previously being top ProTour seeds in the case of the former two.

In terms of the ProTour Order of Merit, Scott Mitchell, Alan Soutar, Jason Heaver, Lewy Williams and Florian Hempel after brilliant opening years on the PDC Tour will make their debut. As will Martijn Kleermaker finally after catching Covid-19 last year which prevented him making it onto the Ally Pally stage last minute.

Draw released for 2021 Players Championship Finals: Potential Van Gerwen-Van Barneveld clash in Round Two

While non Tour Card holders in Rowby-John and Rusty-Jake Rodriguez as well as Chas Barstow who have made up the numbers for most of the year in ProTours have played well enough to claim their spot with only the latter not 100% confirmed at this time.

He joins Ryan Meikle, Ted Evetts and Adam Hunt in players who are nearly there but would get displaced if players that aren't current Pro Tour qualifiers reach the top 32.

This means that the Grand Slam qualifier and the requisite tournament will hold the key for these players but they are nearly certainly in barring any miracles.

Jason Lowe who at the moment isn't qualified suffered last minute heartbreak at the ProTour with Hunt taking the last spot but could still be in himself.

Should one of Callan Rydz, Keane Barry, Lewis Williams, Rusty-Jake Rodriguez or Ted Evetts win the World Youth Championship, he will be in with the winner qualifying.

These ProTour players will face the International qualifiers in the first round which currently include the likes of Martin Schindler, Jim Williams, Matt Campbell, Madars Razma, Fallon Sherrock, Lisa Ashton and Danny Lauby.

Sherrock set for PDC World Championship return: “I’m just over the moon”

Still to come include the winners of the European Development Tour with Niels Zonneveld potentially primed to take advantage with again Rusty-Jake Rodriguez, the current leader already qualified.

While, European (West, East, South-West and South-East) and the PDPA Qualifier offer the final route through for many. As well as the CDC Continental Cup with the winner claiming the spot after the Thai qualifier was cancelled.

With Jeff Smith, Danny Lauby, Matt Campbell and John Norman all set to play, Jacob Taylor or Leonard Gates in different scenarios would benefit in this situation as the field closes in on being confirmed.

VIDEO: Crazy scenes as PDC Tour Card holder Adam Smith-Neale punches opponent after loss

  • 2022 PDC Pro Tour

The 2022 PDC Pro Tour is the next series of non-televised darts tournaments organised by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Players Championships and European Tour events are the events that make up the Pro Tour. There will be thirty Players Championship events and thirteen PDC European Tour events, and after the split format last year, the Challenge and Development Tours will return as one big tour, rather than a UK/European split tour.

Prize money

The prize money for the Players Championship events rose from 2021 levels, with each event having a prize fund of £100,000. [1] [2]

This is how the prize money is divided:

PDC Tour Card

128 players are granted Tour Cards, which enables them to participate in all Players Championships events, the UK Open and qualifiers for all European Tour and select televised events.

The 2022 Tour Cards are awarded to:

  • (64) The top 64 players from the PDC Order of Merit after the 2022 World Championship .
  • Robert Marijanović and Kirk Shepherd resigned their Tour Cards after one year. [3]
  • (2) Two highest qualifiers from 2020 Challenge Tour ( David Evans and Ritchie Edhouse ).
  • (2) Two highest qualifiers from 2020 Development Tour ( Keane Barry and Berry van Peer ).
  • (1) The winner of the 2021 UK Challenge Tour ( Jim Williams ).
  • (1) The winner of the 2021 European Challenge Tour ( Matt Campbell ).
  • (1) The winner of the 2021 UK Development Tour ( Bradley Brooks ).
  • (1) The winner of the 2021 European Development Tour ( Rusty-Jake Rodriguez ).
  • (8) The daily winners from the 2022 Qualifying Schools.

Afterwards, the playing field will be complemented by the highest qualified players from the Q-School Order of Merit until the maximum number of 128 Pro Tour Card players has been reached. In 2022, that means that a total of 24 additional players will qualify this way.

The PDC Pro Tour Qualifying School (or Q-School) was split into a UK and European Q-School. Players that are not from Europe can choose which Q-School they want to compete in.

Q-School will once again be split into two stages; with all players who lost their tour cards after the 2022 World Championship and the players who finished from second to fourth in the 2021 Challenge Tour and Development Tour Orders of Merit exempted to the final stage. The first stage consisted a block of three days, with the last eight players on each day qualifying into the final stage. A ranking of other players will also be produced with players qualifying via that ranking to produce a full list of 128 players for each final stage.

Stage One took place between 9–11 January; with the Final Stage held between 12 and 15 January. The winner of each day's play in the Final Stage were given a PDC Tour Card.

The UK Q-School was held at the Marshall Arena , Milton Keynes , England; with the European Q-School held at the H+ Hotel, Niedernhausen , Germany.

An Order of Merit was created for each Q School. For every win after the Last 64, the players will be awarded 1 point.

To complete the field of 128 Tour Card Holders, places were allocated down the final Q-School Order of Merits in proportion to the number of participants, with 13 cards going to the UK Q-School and 11 going to the European Q-School.

The following players picked up Tour Cards as a result:

Players Championships

Following the Super Series events in the last 18 months, the Players Championship events will return to normal in 2022.

  • ^ Boris Koltsov, of Russia, has competed under a neutral designation since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine .

European Tour

The PDC European Tour returned to the pre-pandemic level of 13 events, having been reduced to four events in 2020, and just two in 2021. On 9 February 2022, the Belgian Darts Open, originally scheduled for 25–27 March was rescheduled to 23–25 September, owing to COVID-19 restrictions in Belgium. [32]

PDC Challenge Tour

Following the split into UK and European Challenge Tours in 2021, the Challenge Tour will become one again in 2022, with 4 weekends of 5 events, and 1 weekend of 4 events. The top 2 players on the Order of Merit get a PDC Tour Card and a place at the 2023 PDC World Darts Championship , meanwhile the winner of the Order of Merit gets a spot at the 2022 Grand Slam of Darts as well.

On 26 November 2021, the PDCNB unveiled their 2022 calendar, which is set to include 5 weekends, incorporating 2 weekends in Denmark , and one weekend each in Sweden , Finland and Latvia , although the Sweden weekend will be purely held for European Tour qualifiers. The top two players on the Order of merit qualify for the 2023 PDC World Darts Championship .

Dartplayers Australia (DPA) Pro Tour

The Dartplayers Australia Tour was modified once again to reduce the amount of travel required within the context of the global pandemic. The original format was that every event would consist of five state round robin rounds. After which an online 32 player knockout round would be played. [127] After the first event there were technical difficulties with the online knockout round. It was then decided that every state event would be played out with separate knockout stages. With the top 16 from every state after all 15 events qualifying for the Australasian Championships. [128]

Continental Cup

The CDC Continental Cup will be held on 22 October. It features the top sixteen players from the 2022 CDC Tour Points List (with the exception of Danny Baggish and Matt Campbell , due to their commitments on the PDC Pro Tour). World Championship International Qualifiers

Amongst the World Championship qualifiers for the 2023 PDC World Darts Championship saw the guarantee of the first ever representative from Ukraine , following the suspension of the Eurasian Darts Corporation (EADC), due to the as-still ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine . [217]

  • ^ Zong won the qualifier, but declined the invitation for personal reasons. Han took his place.

  • 2022 PDC Pro Tour

The 2022 PDC Pro Tour is the next series of non-televised darts tournaments organised by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Players Championships and European Tour events are the events that make up the Pro Tour. As of 12 November 2021, twenty-eight Players Championship events and thirteen PDC European Tour events have been confirmed by the PDC, and after the split format last year, the Challenge and Development Tours will return as one big tour, rather than a UK/European split tour.

Prize money

The prize money for the Players Championship events rose from 2021 levels, with each event having a prize fund of £100,000.

The PDC Pro Tour Qualifying School (or Q-School) will be split into a UK and European Q-School.

The first stage will consist a block of three days, with the last eight players on each day qualifying into the final stage. A ranking of other players will also be produced with players qualifying via that ranking to produce a full list of 128 players for each final stage.

Stage One will take place between 9 and 11 January; with the Final Stage held between 12 and 15 January. The winner of each day's play in the Final Stage will be given a PDC Tour Card.

The UK Q-School will be held at the Marshall Arena , Milton Keynes , England; with the European Q-School held at the H+ Hotel, Niedernhausen , Germany.

An Order of Merit will be created for each Q School. For every win after the Last 64 the players will be awarded 1 point.

To complete the field of 128 Tour Card Holders, places will be allocated down the final Qualifying School Order of Merits in proportion to the number of participants, with ?? cards going to the UK Q-School and ?? going to the European Q-School.

The following players picked up Tour Cards as a result:

Players Championships

Following the Super Series events in the last 18 months, the Players Championship events will return to normal in 2022.

European Tour

The PDC European Tour is due to return to 13 events, having been reduced to four events in 2020, and just two in 2021.
