Schwinn Le Tour Complete Guide

Last Updated on June 21, 2022 by FAB Jim The Cyclist

History of the Schwinn Le Tour

It’s the early 1970s and bicycles are booming.  Lightweight road bikes are becoming very popular, and Schwinn doesn’t have one that’s more affordable.  They have the Paramount, but it’s a very expensive bike.  The Varsity and Continental are close to 40lbs, but they still sell well.  Paramounts are made in Waterford Wisconsin and that facility certainly doesn’t have the capacity to start making budget road bikes.  Chicago was already very busy making their current models, and they didn’t make lugged frame bikes.  What did they decide to do?

To get into the affordable lightweight market they decided to import from Japan like many of the competition.  They were very cautious about an import Schwinn because the first two bikes are the World Traveler and World Voyageur in 1972 and 1973.  Very nice bikes from Japan, but they barely have a reference to Schwinn on them and are not in the catalog.  They even use a different World badge.  This experiment must have gone well because in 1974 they introduce the Schwinn approved Le Tour, an affordable lugged frame bike that’s about 30lbs.  They are still cautious as it’s Schwinn approved rather than just a Schwinn, but it has lots of great Schwinn and Le Tour branding.  It must have been a pretty good seller as they go on to offer it through 1992 and brought it back off and on through 2011.

It has had many variations during its long run including the Super Le Tour, Le Tour Luxe, and Le Tour Tourist.  The Super was definitely the most popular of the variations and ran from 1976-1985.  It started as an upgraded Le Tour with aluminum rims, downtube shifters, and only 26.5 lbs.  By 1985 the Le Tour and Super had gotten very close in quality, so I believe that is likely why they stopped the Super.  Both had alloy rims, downtube shifters, chromoly frames, and similar weights.

Take a look at these great bikes:

1974 Le Tour

Schwinn started offering the Le Tour in 1974, and it was a little different for the iconic Chicago based bicycle company.  The Le Tour was made in Japan by Panasonic, with Schwinn approved branding.  So, it’s branded by USA Schwinn, made by Japan Panasonic, and it’s got a French name.  How cool is that?  Everybody should want to own one of these.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Based on pricing it was 3 rd in the Schwinn lineup behind the Paramount and Sports Tourer with a suggested retail price of $159.95.  It was also quite a bit lighter than any of the cheaper Schwinn models.

What I love about these bikes is all the great branding.  The 1974 has Le Tour branded derailleurs and seat post, plus lots of other Schwinn and Shimano branding.  Its my only bike with model specific derailleurs. Later years have Le Tour branded saddles and cranks.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Here are some of the specs according to the 1974 catalog:

Lightweight, fully lugged brazes frame with butted top and bottom tubes.

Quick release aluminum alloy hubs.

Aluminum alloy crank set

Center pull alloy caliper brakes

27” x 1 ¼” gumwall tires

Only 30-32 lbs depending on the size and kickstand.  (some models at the time were around 40lbs)

The derailleurs are made by Shimano and are similar in quality to their 500.  These are Le Tour GT-400 for the rear and Le Tour GT-450 for the front.

Bars and stem are alloy.  Rims are steel.

Came in 3 sizes:

LT1: 21” (31” standover height)

Colors: Opaque blue, Opaque red, and Kool Lemon.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

1975 Le Tour

In 1975 a Le Tour for ladies was added to the catalog.  Rest of the bike stays mostly unchanged.  The rear derailleur changes to the GT-420 and the catalog changes from kool lemon to yellow.  I prefer calling it kool lemon.  Catalog notes that the saddle is Taihei racing style.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Ladies sizes:

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

1976 Le Tour

Remains mostly unchanged from the 75 model, except the saddle changes to Matex racing style.

1976 Super Le Tour

This is the first year for the Super Le Tour.  An ultra-lightweight bike at a moderate price.  These had double butted chrome moly top and bottom tubes, alloy rims, downtube shifters, and Shimano 600 rear and 60 front derailleurs.  They took what was good about the standard Le Tour and made it a little better.  The 12.2 on the frame references the weight in kilograms. 26.5lbs.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Frame Finish: Sky blue, Flamboyant red or Silver Mist.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Same sizing as the Le Tour:

Suggested retail price: $219.95

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

1977 Le Tour II

Most of the changes for this year appear to be visual with new decals and colors.  Catalog lists the weight as 29lbs.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Colors are Scarlet, Violet, and Pearscent Orange.

Suggested retail price is $164.95.

Le Tour II for ladies comes in the same colors and is listed as 31lbs.  Sizes are now L-89 for the 19” and L-92 for the 22” frame.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

1977 Super Le Tour 12.2

The 77 SLT is mostly unchanged from the previous year, but now offers a SL-9 19” frame.  Colors are Sky blue, Silver Mist, and Full chrome ($50 extra)

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Suggested retail price is $229.95

1978 Schwinn-Approved Le Tour III

A 27” frame is added, and the colors are changed.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Colors are pearl orange and pearl blue.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Ladies models:

Suggested retail price is $189.95

1978 Super Le Tour

Price is the biggest change from the 77 with a suggested retail price of $264.95.  Models also change slightly:

C is added to the end of the model to designate full chrome.

Colors are Full chrome($50 extra), Scarlet, Black, and Silver Mist.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

1979 Le Tour IV

Big changes this year as they started making them in Chicago.  They wanted to try and make an affordable road bike in the USA.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Here are some of the specs:

30lbs with kickstand

18 gauge 1020 carbon steel frame

Rear derailleur: Shimano 400

Saddle: Selle Royale suede finish

Sugine Super Maxi alloy cotterless crank

Suggested retail price $179.95

Colors: Frosty Blue and Strawberry Red

1979 Super Le Tour II

The SLT is also made in the USA and gets a little bit heavier as it no longer has a partial chrome moly frame, it’s all 1020 steel.  The derailleurs are also a bit of a downgrade from previous years.  It does change to a 12 speed.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Here are some specs:

Suggested retail price $249.95

This was Schwinn’s entry level road bike for this year. 21 speed drive train. Schwinn road design 7005 TIG welded aluminum frame with forged dropouts and cro-moly fork with forged dropouts. Shimano RSX downtube shifters and rear derailleur with T300 front derailleur. Nexave triple crank. Tektro 420AG brakes with Shimano levers. 32 hole Araya SP-30 rims with alloy hubs and 700×23 tires.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Suggested retail price: $499.00

Color: Metallic Silver

2011 Le Tour Classic

This looks to be kind of a neat bike.  The paint scheme with the brown bar tape gives it a bit of an older look, maybe that’s how it got the classic name?  The original saddle would have also been brown, but it’s been replaced on this one.  Frame is actually Reynolds 520 chromoly which I wasn’t expecting.  Shifters and derailleurs are Shimano Sora.  I believe it came stock with 28mm tires so this should be a really comfortable ride. Check it out:

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Here is some marketing info from Schwinn:

Experience the great ride characteristics of steel aboard Schwinn’s Le Tour Classic. Whether you are just getting into road riding or are an experienced roadie, you’ll love the agile ride of the Reynolds steel tubes and the comfort of the Le Tour’s slightly more upright riding position. Together they give you a ride that is silky smooth, easy on the back and simply sublime. Plus, this ready roadster boasts a hill-topping 27-speed FSA/Shimano drivetrain, powerful dual-pivot brakes, a fine Schwinn Bio-Tuned saddle and easy-rolling 700c wheels with choice Continental tires.

2011 Le Tour Sport

This model had an aluminum frame with a carbon fork. Shifters are Shimano Sora with a Tiagra rear derailleur and a Sora front derailleur. FSA Vero triple crankset and SRAM 9 speed cassette completed the drivetrain. 700×25 Kenda Kriterium tires mounted on Xero Shawla 220 wheels.

Suggested retail price: $899

Serial Numbers

Decoding the serial numbers of the Japanese made Le Tours is covered in the imported section below. The US made models use the limited production section. It is found on the rear dropout:

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

This example was made in November of 1974.

What are they worth?

The good news is that you should be able to find them rather affordably.  I’m in southeast Wisconsin and they can be had for $50-500 depending on the condition and model.  Most models in pretty good condition you should be able to get for around $100.  If you are picky about year and color, you might have to pay a bit more.  Nice Super Le Tours I often see for around $300, but if you aren’t picky and take some time looking can be found for much less.  The Le Tour Luxe however seems to be very rare and I usually see those more for $500.  The market on Ebay is usually quite a bit higher especially after shipping.  These are pretty common bikes so you will likely find a pretty good selection locally.  The value will vary a bit depending on where you are.  The above is true for the older steel lugged frame bikes.  For the newer ones into the 2000s I guess you should just check bicycle blue book for an idea as I rarely see these for sale.

Most collectable

I think the Le Tours are really great as they are beautiful vintage bikes that can still be gotten for a good price. Here are some of my favorites, and those I think should be most collectible:

1974 – as this is the first year, all colors.

Yellow – Kool Lemon and Yellow were only offered for the first 3 years. And it’s a great yellow.

1976 Super Le Tour – this is the first year for the super. Really great bikes for the time, and still very fun to ride.

12.2 – all the 12.2 supers are really great bikes. Chromoly top and bottom tube, downtube shifters, alloy rims…

Chrome Supers – the all chrome supers were an additional cost. I haven’t seen many of them.

Le Tour Luxe – neat looking touring version made only from 1983-1985.

1985 Super Le Tour – 25lbs with all chromoly frame and Suntour Cyclone derailleurs. Last year for the super.

Years the Le Tour was made:

Le Tour – 1974-1992, 1995-1999

Super Le Tour – 1976-1985

Le Tour Luxe – 1983-1985

Le Tour Tourist – 1981-1982

Le Tour GS and GSX – 2007-2009

2010-2011 – Le Tour Classic, Le Tour Sport, Le Tour Elite, Le Tour Legacy, Le Tour Super

I always thought it was interesting that Schwinn bought enough to put “Schwinn-approved” on components rather than the manufacturer’s name (Huret derailleurs on the Varsity, Weinmann brakes on most bikes). I’ll still take my 1974 Motobecane Grand Jubilee over the Le Tour. $208 and Huret Jubilee derailleurs, aluminum rims, Reynolds frame. I had a friend with a chrome Paramount of that vintage – Campy Record-equipped. The spirit of Paramount lives on at Waterford Precision Cycles, founded by Richard Schwinn.

There are lots of great vintage bikes out there.

Awesome post!

You bet. Nice work.

Always fun to see old bike pictures! 😊

I agree completely.

I once owned a metallic blue 1980 Le Tour. Seeing these photos makes me wish I would have had room to keep it.

I own a Schwinn ATB (MTB) that is date as 1981 by the serial number on the underside of the BB. The serial number is BS367823 as fitting into the Schwinn Chicago SN format. The frame is a lugged Ishiwata tubing and looks very much like the first Specialised MTB frame. I can post photos etc if required Regards Les

Any thoughts anyone? Any chance that paint is missing (came off) and this is silver brazing popping through?

  • Sep 13, 2018

Spent today cleaning and greasing up the bike. Repacked the front wheel bearings and fork. Need to do the rear wheel as it sounds "metalic" when spinning. Not a lot of miles on the bike as it's still wearing the original rubber. But the grease on the headset was almost gone, and what was left was caked on. Paint is in very good condition, and I found original decals I had for it! Bought them many years ago on ebay for not a lot of money. It turns out from what I can see is that the silver on the botom is the frame metal. The grey paint is on top of it, so maybe the factory down south didn't clean that area to well before spraying. It appears I've dodged a bullet...

Schwinn Lightweight Bicycles 1983...

1983 schwinn 1

A message to every cyclist From Edward R. Schwinn, Jr. President Schwinn Bicycle Company

The Schwinn Difference

For over 85 years, Schwinn has offered quality bicycles meeting the highest standards of design and engineering. The 1983 line of Lightweight models is in keeping with and advancing that family tradition on every bicycle carrying the Schwinn name to assure you quality, dependability and value.

Designed with you in mind

All Schwinn bicycles are designed and built with you, the rider, in mind. Consult your Schwinn Dealer. Let his experience and knowledge assist you in your selection. Here are some of the features to look for among Schwinn's Lightweight bicycles:

  • Functional Design- each bicycle is engineered for uncompromised performance in a particular cycling activity.
  • Lightweight Frames-Chrome-moly tubing, a special alloy developed for the aerospace industry, is used by Schwinn to minimize weight without sacrificing strength.
  • Aluminum alloy further reduces a bicycle's weight by replacing steel in the rims and componentry while again retaining relative strength.

Restoring a vintage 1983 schwinn le tour.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

A Short History of the Schwinn Le Tour

The 1983 le tour specifications, the seat and seatpost, the shifter group, rear freewheel and axle, brakes, handlebars, and stem, ready for the road, 35 comments:.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Just bought a 1983 Super Le Tour. Great info and good to know where this bike may have been made

Thanks for the post. Bought mine in 1984 and after all these years the tube markings are gone. Everything else still there though! Same handlebar, chrome-moly sticker, etc... (#SC300132) Wish I could pin down the model for certain, I think it was a Le Tour.

According to your serial number (presume it is SC300132) this would be either a Le Tour or Super Le Tour (S) produced in the month of March (C) in 1983 (3). The rest of the numbers are unique. As above the frame is probably produced in Mississippi.

Thanks for the article Douglas. Great information and pictures! I'm hoping to be the proud owner of a one owner 1983 Le Tour tomorrow. It appears to be all original except for the pedals and rear brakes. I would like to replace the pedals with the originals. Are they fairly easy to find? Any idea if the Le Tour had it's own style of pedal? Thanks, Mike

I bought a 1984 Le Tour at a garage sale and have been slowly working on it. I really like the bike. What do you know about the service of the bearings and freewheel? Everything is running great, I just want to be proactive in keeping it that way! This is my first road bike and first vintage bike.

This just depends on how much the bike has been ridden. The bearing grease is surely dried up by now and should be regreased (wheels and bottom bracket at least). If the tires and tubes have not been changed in years, you may want to replace them. Otherwise, you will get flats. This is a nuisiance during rides. The rubber degrades over time. But if they are less than 10 years old, they are probably okay.

I just pulled my 1982 LeTour out of the basement. Great shape and I loved riding it. Loved learning about the history of Schwinn and this bike. As I’m “getting up there,” I may sell it.

I gave this reconditioned Le Tour to my son and he uses it for commuting to work. He loves it and gets all kinds of positive comments. I still ride my old Raleigh that is another post, but I modified it significantly so it was comfortable for me to ride. I may to an article on the changes.

I'm working on a customer's Schwinn. It was recovered from being stolen and hired me to restore the bike. It is definitely a Schwinn but the model is scraped up. It has chrome chain/seat stays and forks. Serial number 1A000699 and the badge shows 3100 / MIJ. I have searched the googles and can't narrow down make and year. The Crank is a Super Maxy with a date code of J-8 which should bring it to 1990. But this looks like a 1970's era paramount with downtube shifters..

You might look at the following website. It has some components and pictures. Many are not in original condition. https://www.kurtkaminer.com/TH_paramountregistry.html#1985 Some 1980s Paramounts were made in Japan. What are the other components. Sometimes you can review the Schwinn catalogs and pinpoint the model. Waterford Bikes (formerly the factory producing Paramount models) has a good listing of images from all the catalogues.

You're the first person with similar serial number my la tour starting with a number 2A01245 1983 did you find any more info. Great bike ride about 500 miles allready this year.

According to the Schwinn Information Bulletin on serial numbers your Le Tour serial number should start with an S. Are you sure the 2 is not an S. If the 2 is an S, then your bike was made in January 1980. This is a really nice riding classic bike.

greeting Douglas i was doing research on my Le Tour that i recently purchased and it also has a serial number on that starts with a 2F02803 I also thought my bike was mfg. in June 1980.. no mistake it is clearly a number. "2"

The F is somewhat unusual. Usually the LeTours are S, J or G depending on the country of production. Could it be a J. This would mean built in Japan. Another way to define the year you can look at the catalogs and identify the component groups that are identical to your bike. I hope this helps.

Thanks for responding to my post. I have looked over the serial numbers and yes starts with 2 followed by F. the components seem to be consistent with a 1980s bike front and rear derailleur down tube shifters all marked Shimano Altus. front hub is a approved Schwinn and rear hub Shimano, but for some reason the rims are alloy Weinmann and brakes are also Weinmann side pulls. the reason i purchased was the color it is in the sandpiper color like the one you have with brown Schwinn lettering on the down tube very attractive bike.

If you could send some images of the components, I might be able to date the bike. From the components you have listed it seems to be 1980s. Email is [email protected]

Thank you for your reply and recommendations. I’m at a loss since I have went thru all the photos and information. The other components are SR Road Champion Japan handlebars Double butted 4130 sticker Red/chrome lined stickers wrapped around the chain stay/ seat stay/ seat tube SR seat post Dia-compe brakes with quick release Round reflectors Shimano Altus Downtube shifters(friction) SR Stem Red/Gold lined Schwinn logo on downtube. No logo on top tube

Well I found it. 1980 Schwinn Voyageur 11.8.

Great! Glad you found it. Believe it or not I am working on a 1988 Voyageur right now so the components sounded really familiar. I will have a posting up in about a month. Nice bikes!

I just bought a yellow Le Tour on ebay for $71.00. It definitely was made in Japan and in my research I think it was made in 1974. The chrome was in great shape but the front forks bearly turned and the wheels would spin slow. I pulled the forks and crank and the grease was like gum. Also did front and rear bearings and replaced all cables. Put new black tape on the handlebars and bought a buffer/polisher for my drill and polished all the chrome. I'm 61 years old and I feel like I'm 15 in high school again. Up every morning knocking out 6+ miles. Great COVID project.

Riding a bike is about as safe as it gets during the COVID crisis. The Le Tours are not the lightest bike of the era, but they are really designed well for riding. My son has the one I refinished and loves it. Thanks for the great comment.

Hi Doug, My bike collection is starting to mirror yours, as I just picked up a Schwinn LeTour, S/N SC211040, and a 1988 Schwinn Tempo, as a Father/Son combo sale for $120.00 My LeTour has the older style decals and chromed steel rims made by UKARIM. the kickstand is non-descript, except for the "Japan" cast into it. I am glad that I had 2 extra gumwall tires from last year, as prices are through the roof, now.I also have a 1972 Raleigh Record and a 1950 Raleigh Tourist, among others. I did get a few extra 26X1-3/8 Michelin's from Chain Reaction Cycle for $6.77 for blackwalls.

According to your serial number, this is probably a 1982 Schwinn Le Tour built in March. It was probably made in USA. In fact, it may have been among the first to be made in the new factory in Greenville, but Chicago is also a possibility. The rims have me puzzled, as most of the Le Tours had alloy rims. Perhaps they are after market.

Muy linda bicicleta! Tengo un Le Tour 3 completamente original como salió de fabrica! Saludos!

Doug I read you talk about the Letour being made in Japan the in the Chicago Plant until 1983. I have a lugged Schwinn Mountain bike frame that has a serial number BS367823 that by the Schwinn serial code is February 1981 but by the Asian Serial number Guide is taken as 1983. This has been taken by a fellow T-Mar as being a serial number system used for frames made in Japan. From what I have seen another ASNG format refers to the Letour SyMnnnn but of course this did carry on to frames made in the Chicago plant in the late 1970`s. The discussion I have had with others comes to saying the frame I have is a 1983 manufacture. T-Mar does state he has no idea of what USA manufacturers used as SN formats. I see also Paramount manufactured at Chicago as well. A direct discussion we could have via email before we go to a public posting. I trust you are well and keeping sake, Kind regards Les Cook

Yes. Please contact me if you like. My email is in the about me page. I don't think Schwinn made "mountain" bikes until 1983. Send pictures if you like. See this link for 1983 Sierra which is lugged. https://bikehistory.org/catalogs/1983.html

Hello Doug, I also have a Schwinn Le Tour. The SN is SH303873, so it seems it was made in Aug 1983. I bought it used, was riding for a while but for the last 20 years it was sitting in my basement because I have a mountain bike. I'm planning to use this road bike for a 18-mile triathlon distance, so I want to replace tires and tubes myself and then bring it for a tune up to a shop. But I don't know the size of tires I need. My measurement of the wheel diameter gave me 25.5". Please give me your advice. Thank you!

Please check the last image on my article. You will see my bike has Araya Rims that are 27X 1 1/4. You will need a 27X 1 1/4 tire (700s will not work) which are available on Amazon but you have to search a bit. The tubes can be standard 700c size as they will fit any similar sized rim. But check your rim as sometimes the wheels have been replaced. A stamp will also be on the existing tire (assuming there is still one one the bike). it's a great riding bike and you will enjoy it once you have it fixed up. The Super Le Tour had 27X 1 1/8 inch tires, but the 27X 1 1/4 should fit. 27 is the rim size and the 1/4 or 1/8 is the tire width.

Hi Doug, I have had an antique Schwinn Sakae Custom Champion 4130 Chromoly that looks to be a 1973. Serial number is F736448 and model looks to be 1737. I realize this is a hard to find bike. It was in my storage building until recently. It is now in my livingroom to keep it dry. In good condition and mint green. The paint original. Just wondering if you have an ideal of it's value. I used to ride but currently on disability and would be frightened to try now with all my physical problems. Your post with the catalog was so informative. I greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much, Linda

Your bike is a 1977.

This is a 1983. The 1977s had only 5 gears and this one has 6. All the other components also match the 1983 version that is in the Schwinn catalog. As I said, it was likely produced in Mississippi.

I would consider the fact when the chicago plant was shutting down, parts that were left over might have been used to build bikes just to use up inventory, meaning there could be different varations of the 83 la tour based on parts on hand (food for thought) I a 1983 thats different then what everybody describes

This is very true. They did ship a bunch of parts to Mississippi. This included stickers so they may also be a bit different.

There is a lot of information on Schwinn bikes on bikehistory.org, and on thecabe.com. Schwinn serial numbers are confusing. The guy with the F73xxx serial number has a June 1977 frame. To the lady thinking she may have a valuable old Le Tour, sorry, but likely worth $100 +|- depending on condition. The Le Tours were made in Japan 73-78 then brought back to Chicago, but built with 1020 steel, not 4130 cro-moly. When production moved to Greenville in 1983, the Le Tours were again made with 4130 cro-moly steel.

The Comprehensive Guide to Moscow Nightlife

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

schwinn le tour luxe 1984

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.

The name “ Kremlin ” means “fortress inside a city” Behind the walls of the Kremlin  lie the working offices of Russian’s government and president. The Grand Kremlin Palace  is the official residence of Russia’s president. Yes, you are just a stone’s throw away from the President of Russia.. When visiting the Kremlin you can see the Armory Chamber which boasts a staggering collection of Tsarist artifacts, Russian jewelry, and armor. St. Basil’s Cathedral

If asked to conquer an image of Moscow, St. Basil’s Cathedral might just be the most likely image you picture (also known as the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Virgin by the moat) . You definitely must visit both its interior and exterior as its architectural style is unique. It was declared in 1990 a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.The cathedral has a museum that you can visit at a later time. You can buy tickets at the ticket kiosk outside the cathedral or receive free admission with the Moscow City Pass. Outside the cathedral you can see its beautiful domes, all different, which highlight a its striking colorful and rounded shapes. In front of the church, in a garden, a bronze statue stands in honor of Dmitry Pozharsky and Kuzma Minin, who gathered volunteers for the army that fought against the Polish invaders during the Time of the Riots (between 1598 and 1613).

Next up on the tour is the Moskva River which runs through the center of Moscow. For a city that is full of so many treasures and sights, it is perhaps quite easy to overlook the watery gem that sits in plain sight to Muscovites every day and has become part of everyone who lives in Moscow. If you are looking for an interesting guided walking tour in Moscow then walking along the river is a definite must especially during the summer season.
