What we say...

The bridgestone tour b rxs golf balls deliver incredible spin on approach shots and around the greens..

For decades Bridgestone have been manufacturing golf balls worthy of being played by outstanding Tour players; thanks to their reputation. The Tour B RXS is a wonderful option for those who like to play with the best golf balls but may not have the quickest swing speed.

Among the Tour B family, the Tour B RXS is perhaps the best premium golf ball for golfers with slower swing speeds to get the most out of their game, due to the lower compression core, the technology packed into the ball, and the amazing spin and control.

Bridgestone Tour B RXS golf ball

Technology is certainly not missing from these golf balls. Bridgestone pride themselves on their golf balls which have had much success on Tour and seen them become ever prevalent in the amateur game. The technology included in the Tour B RXS features across all the golf balls in the Tour B family, but what exactly is the technology?

Specific to the Tour B range of golf balls is Bridgestone’s REACTIV iQ ; a smart urethane cover technology. This technology reacts to the force of impact which helps to offer more distance off the tee and more spin and control on approach shots.

Gradational Compression Core

The ideal golf ball will fly straight and travel further – something the gradational compression core assists with by reducing side spin and increasing ball speed. This improves the overall performance of the Tour B RXS; making it one of the best golf balls for club golfers.

Dual Dimple Technology

A common feature of Bridgestone golf balls since the early 2010s is the dual dimple technology which has become an integral part of their premium golf balls. This technology enhances aerodynamics, providing extra distance by reducing drag while the balls are in the air.

Seamless Cover Technology

The seamless cover technology offers a consistent ball flight and creates a perfectly balanced dimple pattern giving you a ball you can trust to travel as well as it’s struck.

Who uses Bridgestone Tour B RXS golf balls?

Unlike TaylorMade and Titleist , Bridgestone does not have an array of Tour golfers playing with their balls. Although they do have formidable staffers using their golf balls. The Tour B RXS is not a common ball on any tour but that does not make it an excellent ball which is perhaps more suited to club golfers than any ball manufactured by TaylorMade or Titleist.

The Tour B RXS is the ball of choice for 1992 Masters Champion Fred Couples. “Boom Boom” (named for his long accurate distance in his prime) has been a Bridgestone staffer since 2005 and now plays the Tour B RXS in yellow – uncommon for Tour golf.

Another golfer who plays the Tour B RXS is Wake Forest College star, Emilia Migliaccio, a member of the 2023 NCAA women’s golf national championship.

Bridgestone Tour B range of golf balls

Which Bridgestone Tour B golf ball should I play?

There are four different balls in the Tour B family, and the majority of golfers will be able to find a suitable option from these four. The Tour B RXS is perhaps the most suited to the average club golfer who wants a premium ball.

The Tour B XRS is ideal for most club golfers because you can still achieve distance with this ball but there is more emphasis on spin and control when approaching greens. Also, these balls are designed for golfers who swing their driver slower than 105mph – most average club golfers will be in this category. If the Tour B RXS works for a former world No.1 they must work for others.

There is another ball manufactured by Bridgestone intended for golfers who swing their driver slower than 105mph. This ball is more distance-orientated and doesn’t spin as much when approaching greens.

Bridgestone offers premium golf balls for those with a driver swing speed quicker than 105mph, the first of which is the Tour B XS . This is the ball of choice for 15-time Major Champion Tiger Woods . This ball is long off the tee with increased spin and control on approach to greens.

Jason Day and Matt Kuchar both play the Bridgestone Tour B X , the other ball aimed at golfers who swing their driver quicker than 105mph. This ball is designed to maximize distance by reducing spin and providing a lower launch. The Tour B XS and Tour B X are competitors to the best premium golf balls .

Bridgestone Tour B RXS review: Robot golf balls test verdict

Robot golf balls test data and verdict – bridgestone tour b rxs.

The RXS didn’t appear among any of our top-performing models in any situation in our robot golf balls test, but it bubbled around the test averages throughout all sessions and, for a higher spin ball, produced surprisingly low levels of wedge spin.

For this cost, we reckon there are better-performing models out there, even if you are after a slightly higher-spinning golf ball.

See how it compared to the other 27 models in our  robot golf balls test .

Bridgestone Tour B RXS availability

The Tour B RXS is available in white and yellow (choice of Fred Couples). The balls come with traditional numbering from 1 through 4, which are blue on the white balls and black on the yellow balls.

The balls are available to purchase from numerous retailers at an RRP of £44.99 / $49.99 per dozen; a fair price for a quality ball.

Bridgestone 2022 Tour B RXS Golf Ball Review

Bridgestone 2022 tour b rxs golf ball.

The Bridgestone 2022 Tour B RXS ball is designed for players with swing speeds under 105 mph looking for softer feel and maximized spin around the greens. Featuring the new REACTIV iQ urethane cover that reacts based on the force of impact, the RXS delivers increased ball speed for maximum distance off the tee with a soft feel and increased spin for control on approach shots. Previously a huge fan of the E12 Contact , I gave the RXS a try after using Bridgestone’s ball selector tool .

Feel 7

How Does it Feel?

The Bridgestone 2022 Tour B RXS has an incredibly dynamic range of feel depending on the shot at hand. When faced with shots requiring faster swing speeds, the RXS felt firm and explosive. On the flip side, touchy shots around the green requiring whatever finesse I could muster, the RXS felt responsive and soft. Both thanks to the REACTIV iQ cover that responds and compresses differently depending on speed.

Personally, I am not necessarily what you would call long off the tee and you will definitely not see me throwing balls behind the pin and spinning them back. However, after getting virtually fit for the RXS, I noticed benefits to my game that I haven’t seen from the likes of other big name brand balls that you’ll see (or find in the woods).

Bridgestone 2022 Tour B RXS 6

Off the Tee

When it comes to the first tee box, I am looking for control and accuracy. When putting a smooth swing on the Bridgestone 2022 Tour B RXS, the ball exploded off of the face, yet still felt soft enough to give that “sweet spot” feeling and really control my natural fade tendency. The RXS and others in the lineup feature Gradational compression, which produces fast ball speeds and reduces side spin. Couple that with Dual Dimple technology, I found this ball to be consistent and long off the tee – a hard combination to come by.

When it came to the occasional short par fours where I may pull a long iron on the tee, the RXS continued to impress. The ball really did seem to spring off the face. Even on slight mishits off the toe, I was finding forgiveness and additional yardage compared to balls I’ve used in the past.

Bridgestone 2022 Tour B RXS 5

On the Approach

Similar to off the tee, I was finding my irons and wedges to be going farther with the Bridgestone Tour B RXS, which was a welcomed sight. After some adjustment to my numbers, the control was very apparent. The RXS felt responsive off the face and softer than off the tee. With the softness came a high ball flight which helped me hit and hold more greens. SCT, Seamless Cover technology, delivers a perfectly balanced dimple pattern to achieve more consistent accuracy, distance and trajectory which definitely helped here.

Around the Green

Around the green is where the 2022 Tour B RXS really shines. Bridgestone says REACTIV iQ stays on the face longer on approach shots, providing more spin and soft feel around the green, and let me tell you they are not lying. The Tour B RXS feels fantastic on chips and from the sand. On chips out of the rough or off tight lies I was able to get spin and stop the ball I normally struggle to find. Additionally the RXS felt soft and rolled true with the putter.

I really wanted to put the durability of Bridgestone’s “smart” REACTIV iQ cover to the test. I took one ball and hit ten consecutive bunker shots, enough to scuff up and damage other balls I’ve seen and tested . The Tour B RXS came out almost unscathed with minimal damage. I’m impressed by not only the feel, but the durability of the cover.

Final Thoughts – 2022 Bridgestone Tour B RXS

Bridgestone really has something for everyone. Whether you want distance or spin, or have a variety of swing speeds, there is a great option. With the help of Bridgestone’s online VFIT system, you can find a ball that is perfect for your game. In the case of the Brisgestone 2022 Tour B RXS, it is an extremely dynamic ball, explosive off the tee yet soft and responsive off wedges and short irons. Spin where you want it, and less spin where you do not. The RXS is a fantastic option for a player with a moderate swing speed looking for a ball that spins and responds with ease from around the green and feels even better on the green with the flatstick.

I had high hopes for this ball, but unfortunately for me this ball does NOT shine around the greens. I have been a fan of the Tour B X ball for a while now, but my swing speed says I should be using the RX or RXS. The RXS does have a softer feel, but it doesn’t have the ability to check up like the X ball. I maybe get a bit more pop off the irons, but that’s about it. It reminds me a bit of the original Titleist AVX which was also a superball around the greens. It’s probably not a big deal for those that usually play non-urethane covered golf balls, but I don’t think this ball belongs in the Tour B family.

I found this ball perfect for my game and age at 59 years. Seems so much better off the tee and fairways than other balls.

July 27 2023 I started playing with this golfball a year ago , it’s been a great game changer for me.i dont think I will go back to using the pro v 1. The Bridgestone tour B RXS has been an amazing short game ball, this ball checks up quick, with spin and control this ball has been the best ball from the bunker …enough said have a great game

This is one of the best all around balls out there. This ball does everything and then some. This ball spins a great deal and it backs up on a well struck wedge. The distance is outstanding and extremely good stable ball flight. Easy to control around the greens from 100yds in. Whomever cannot get this ball to work around the greens, it is not the ball, it is your swing.

a photo of a 2022 Bridgestone TOUR B series golf ball

With the 2022 TOUR B line, Bridgestone introduced us to the concepts of contact science and impact modifiers. The quick version of the story is that by adding different materials to its urethane cover formulation, the Bridgestone TOUR B golf balls would react differently when struck with a driver than they would during lower-speed wedge shots. According to Bridgestone, impact modifiers made the cover of TOUR B golf balls play firmer and faster off the driver for more distance and softer off wedges, creating more spin.

It was a classic “best of both worlds” situation.

The foray into contact science continued with the e12 Contact golf ball . More specifically, the Contact Force Dimple pattern which provides 38 percent more contact area at impact. Bridgestone says that gets you greater energy transfer off the driver and more friction (more spin) off wedges. It also looks kind of cool.

It was a similar story to the TOUR B impact modifiers, with a little bit different way of getting there.

tour b rxs golf balls

If you were hoping to see a contact force dimple in a TOUR B, you’re going to be disappointed but the impact modifier story will continue with what I guess we can describe as a smarter REACTIV IQ cover.

The REACTIV part of the story is basically the same. The IQ bit is meant to suggest a smarter or a least a more targeted approach to leveraging impact modifiers in the recipe. With the prior generation of TOUR Bs, the impact modifier formulation was the same across all four balls—and, yeah, it was optimized for the Tiger (TOUR B XS) and Bryson (TOUR B X) balls. The RX series was basically along for the ride.

With the 2022 TOUR B line , Bridgestone is giving average golfers equal, perhaps even preferred, treatment. This time around, each of the four balls in the Bridgestone TOUR B lineup features unique impact modifiers that target what Bridgestone feels are the greatest opportunities for improvement for each model.

tour b rxs golf balls

Bridgestone TOUR B RX and TOUR B RXS

Let’s start with what Bridgestone calls its “under 105 balls.” The 105 refers to swing speed. Remember the commercials with Matt Kuchar’s dad? The balls on his side of the swing speed equation are the TOUR B X and the TOUR B XS. While neither is going to go toe to toe in a marshmallow fight with the Callaway Super Soft, both easily qualify as soft within the urethane market, with the RXS being among the softest of the bunch.

The big picture here is that while the “over 105” balls have evolved, it’s fair to say the new generation of TOUR B golf balls targets the recreational and amateur golfer. That is to say, guys who pay for their golf balls.

A image of the core of a 2022 Bridgestone TOUR B RX golf ball

Enhancements to the TOUR B RX were driven by feedback that suggested golfers who were fitted into TOUR B RX but moved away from it were often moving to the Titleist Pro V1. Why? Golfers liked the additional greenside spin. So, with the 2022 TOUR B RX, Bridgestone tweaked the REACTIV IQ impact modifiers in the cover formulation to spin more around the green.

“Greenside spin” is one of those nebulous terms for which the definition changes depending on brand and situation. Within the context of the discussion, Bridgestone’s studies were based on 15-yard shots. That number isn’t arbitrary. It’s where the data suggests it’s the distance at which average golfers have the best opportunity to get up and down.

Your takeaway with the TOUR B RX is that Bridgestone says it can more than hold its own on the distance front but, with the changes to the impact modifiers, results of its player tests suggest the 2022 TOUR B RX spins a tick more around the green than the Pro V1.

A image of the core of a 2022 Bridgestone TOUR B RXS golf ball

With the TOUR B RXS, Bridgestone found that golfers who migrated away from it were moving to Callaway Chrome Soft. That left Bridgestone with a two-fold challenge.

The prior generation of RXS lagged behind Chrome Soft for both distance off the tee and greenside spin. This shouldn’t come as any surprise given that the RXS is appreciably softer. That almost invariably means less pop off the tee and less spin around the green.

With the reformulated cover, Bridgestone says it has effectively erased the gaps in both areas between the two. This, despite the lower compression of the RXS.

Full disclosure, Bridgestone’s comparisons are to the prior generation of Chrome Soft. With the 2022 Chrome Soft hitting retail soon, Callaway has also promised more distance and greenside spin. Big picture, if there’s still a gap, it’s likely narrower than it was.

tour b rxs golf balls

The upside here is that a sleeve of balls is relatively inexpensive and launch monitor time is fairly easy to come by so if you wanted to do your own research, particularly at 15 yards, you actually could.

While speed is part of the story, the story of the 2022 TOUR B RX and TOUR B RXS boils down to spin. With both models, golfers should expect about five percent more spin on approach shots. For the target golfer, that works out to 250-300 rpm. On the course, that should translate into shots that two-hop and stop instead of three-hop and dribble a bit.

TOUR B X and TOUR B XS

tour b rxs golf balls

The story of the “over 105” balls—the TOUR B X and TOUR B XS—is a bit different. Where spin and speed are central to the story of the remolded “under 105” balls, the common thread for the TOUR B X and TOUR B XS is trajectory.

Moisture management is also a part of the conversation. While Bridgestone probably won’t spend much time promoting it, the company says the new cover formulations provide consistent results in both wet and dry conditions and help normalize things like launch angles and spin rates between the rough and fairway.

Unlike the under “105 balls”, where the changes were driven by consumer feedback, enhancements to the “over 105” balls were driven largely by feedback from Bridgestone’s Tour staff, most notably Bryson DeChambeau and Tiger Woods.

Let’s start with the Bryson ball.

Bridgestone TOUR B X

A image of the core of a 2022 Bridgestone TOUR B X golf ball

The back story here is that with Bryson’s launch conditions, his drives can sometimes get a little floaty. To mitigate that, Bridgestone tweaked the REACTIV IQ in the TOUR B X to provide a slightly flatter trajectory. With it comes slightly lower launch and a bit less spin.

Keep in mind that we’re talking about changes driven by Tour pros whose mindset is typically “make it better but don’t’ change it.” So what we’re really talking about are fractions’ worth of difference. It’s enough to satisfy the best players in the world but not so much that the average golfer is likely to notice much, if any, difference in the flight.

As wild as it sounds, Bridgestone says the changes have given Bryson an additional nine yards of carry so I want to be absolutely clear about this next part.

RANKED: Best Performing Golf Balls ????

Looking for which golf balls performed best?

  • Best For Distance
  • Lowest Spin For Driver
  • Highest Spin For Wedge

Bridgestone is not promising nine more yards with your driver. In fact, almost refreshingly, it’s not promising anything off the tee. More distance would be great but it wasn’t necessarily part of the objective for the 2022 TOUR B X and describing Bryson as a unique case would be an understatement.

What golfers who play TOUR B X should expect is that flatter trajectory (slight as it might be) and a bit more spin around the green. For Bryson, it’s about 300 rpm more spin (that’s on top of the 700 rpm Bridgestone says he gained with the switch to the 2020 ball).

As always, it’s just one guy’s opinion here so take it for what it’s worth … the Bridgestone TOUR B X was already one of the best balls in the +/- 100 compression range. If all you get from the 2022 model is a little bit more greenside spin, that’s still awesome. You’re basically playing with house money.

A image of the core of a 2022 Bridgestone TOUR B XS golf ball

With the 2022 Bridgestone TOUR B XS (aka the Tiger ball), flatter trajectory is again part of the story but, rather than trying to combat floaters off the driver, the tweaks were designed to make the ball fly through Tiger’s preferred window. Again, it’s not the kind of thing that most average golfers are likely to notice. Tour players are particular in general and Tiger is likely the most exacting of the lot.

The greenside tuning story is a bit different as well but it does provide some insight into how Tiger thinks about his game. While you will likely see a bit more spin with the new TOUR B XS, spin itself wasn’t the objective so much as the byproduct.

Tiger was looking for a bit more “face time” from the golf ball so he could be more aggressive (swing a bit harder) around the greens.

I suppose you can think of it as having the ball stick to the face a bit longer. To make that happen, Bridgestone used its REACTIV IQ technology to slow down the initial velocity off the ball as it comes off the face. It takes a bit more effort to get the same speed and with those harder swings comes more spin but as it relates to Tiger, the story of the TOUR B XS is all about control.

tour b rxs golf balls

Before we move on, I want to mention some fitting possibilities with the TOUR B XS that fall outside of the “over 105” positioning. As “Tiger’s ball,” there are likely some golfers who feel they aren’t good enough to play the TOUR B XS (just as there are better players who invariably find it spins too much for them).

The thing is, with the softer feel (it’s among the softest balls played on the PGA TOUR) and the higher spin properties, it can work well for golfers who fall within Kuchar’s dad’s crowd. You’re getting more speed off the driver and more spin into and around the greens.

Despite being in the over 105 lineup, the TOUR B XS offers plenty of what moderate swing speed players often tell us they want from their golf ball.

With all of that said, if you struggle with a slice (or a hook for that matter), you’ll probably be better off with the lower driver spin of the RX line.

Hello, love the work you do to inform us in all things golf!

My question is how does the iron spin rates compare between the 2020 vs 2022 Bridgestone Tour B RX!

I love the 2020 version because of the low 7 iron spin any comparison would be greatly appreciated!

I am getting truly confused. I used to play Balata balls back in the day precisely for the spin and gave up distance to do so. I quit golf for several years and now I’m back. Now I’m reading that harder balls spin more. I really like the RXS because of the soft feel but don’t want to give up “bite” on the green. I’ve played a few and they seem to bite more than the XS. I also read that they are longer off irons. Again I am completely confused. Driver speed probably around 95-98. Would I give up distance with the RXS vs XS? Any clarification would be appreciated.

I’ve gamed the BXS for about 6 months and really like it despite not having a swing speed above 105 mph. Just bought a dozen RXS to try – guess I’ll try the new ones now! It would be great if Bridgestone sold a trial pack containing all 4 options…

As always Tony, an excellent writeup. Authors above ditto everything I think about these balls; I play the Tour B RX exclusively.

I definitely like these balls but pricing them at $50 (the same as Pro V1’s) will make it hard for them to increase market share.

I miss, I miss, I make

The ball is the one piece of equipment that you can say you are getting exactly what you see on TOUR. Within any brand’s family of TOUR balls their should be a ball that will suit (and more)your game. I see winners and top finishers on TOUR playing any of the choices from the top manufacturers, Articles like this are excellent guides on what direction to take. I do know the best ball for Tiger or Bryson is not necessarily the best ball for me.

Christopher

In most cases tour balls are available at retail, but there are lots of balls in play that are not. Not a huge deal as most players can fit into 3-4 premium balls and tests have shown that no matter the players skill they’re generally better off with a premium ball. They just have to weigh the costs of losing premium balls if they’re prone to getting them wet or hitting them OB.

I’ve been playing the Bridgestone B RX and B RXS for years and have no intention of changing. no matter what they do to the ball. It has been a consistent ball under most all conditions. Thanks for the update on the new ball.

Like a lot of folks, I signed up to get a free sleeve of balls to test out– (I chose the RX), are they ever going to ship those balls to people who signed up, or was this just a skeezy way for Bridgestone to get our e-mail addresses?

I’ve played Bridgestone golf balls for a number of years. I stick to one variant all year to minimise, as far as possible, variables. I’m no Tiger but I play the RX. It has a great feel, flies straight (Fujikura Ventus Velcore is amazing), and spins okay. Driver speed will be around 105. More green side spin is always appreciated – 2023 please.. With the others the X reminds me of the old Topflite XLs so have some to give away. Didnt get any distance gains with them either. Found and played the RXS but not a patch of the RX for me. Find something you like and play it all year.

I am still trying to figure out which of these 4 balls (old version) works best for me. I find the letter designations very confusing as is the case also for the writer of this article. There appears to be several times where the B RX is referred to as the BX, etc.

I also agree with the author that the B XS is still a good ball for the under 105 player as I hit my longest drives with this ball of the 4 and it has great greenside spin. I really like the B RXS for iron distance but do not like to arrive at the green and see the ball has gone through the green. Perhaps the increase in spin will really help the B RXS. I’m looking forward to trying the new versions of these balls and really appreciate that they are manufactured in the US.

There was no confusion at all.

Over 105: XS (higher spin, softer ball) or X (lower spin, harder ball) Under 105: same as above, but add an R to the front of the X or XS. Balls are softer than their >105 counter part.

Why are the RX & RXS the same price as the “Premium” balls ……… The Tour X & XS?

As far as Bridgestone is concerned, the RX and RXS are every bit as premium as the X and XS. The materials are the same…they’re just a bit softer and designed with the performance needs of more average golfers in mind.

Thanks for review Tony. I have been playing the BXS since July. Just decided to try something else besides my ProV1. I also like yellow golf balls, so found some BXS in yellow. It kills me to say this, but I played some of my best golf this fall using BXS. Not much difference in distance for me. The big surprise, was improved iron feel. I switched to blades in 2021 and the BXS feels sooo good off the blade. I will try the RX this spring for possibly a little more distance due to less spin. As always, the benefits are for me. You will need to try for yourself. I will start the year out with the remaining 2021 BXS balls, and will switch when bullets run out. Cheers!

I play the BXS and this was after a fitting against every other ball similar in performance profile. For me personally, it even beat out the ProV line especially off the tee.

However, that said, what works for one does not work for another. So far, I love the performance I get with the BXS.

Curious what your avg driver swing speed is, if known.

Coop – 102/103 – If swing out of my shoes 105/106 but who knows where the ball is going.

Surely your ball sponsor won’t let you use anything other than their product ?

Paulo – LOL! Truthfully, I tested pretty much everything including Snell and Vice believe it or not. The Final 4 were the BXS, V1X, V1 and Chrome Soft X.

I just followed the data based on what Trackman said. So far so good. Hopefully this is helpful.

Paulo, ha, I am not allowed to talk about my sponsors.

Truthfully I tested everything including Snell and Vice. The Final Four was BXS, V1, V1X and Chrome Soft X. According to the trackman data, the BXS was the one to go with. I tested on course with all of course and it did end up performing better for me.

Good write up, thanks. Any guidance offered by Bridgestone on compression level of BX and BXS relative to 2020 models? BX in particular, wondering if it will be any softer than prior model . . . thanks.

Preliminary measurements taken when B’stone sent the “prototype” samples suggest that the new models are a few points softer across the board. We’ll know more when we measure a broader sample.

Thanks Tony, I tested many brand of balls and found the BXS the best ball for me overall even though I am a bit under that 105 swing speed. Found out just what you said plus more total distance. Look forward to a full compression test of the new balls to see if the new RX and RXS fit my profile better yet. The RXS seemed like a rubber ball and did not impress. Concerned about the lower flight of the new BXS as I like the higher flight of the older one…?

I tried b X’s but could not get on with it. I wanted to try a yellow ball .so I gave the b X’s in yellow a go. For me for they are different balls. Is that possible

Nice summary of the updates to the Bridgestone ball lineup. I play the B X and can say that last year’s model ball was an improvement over the previous version so the incremental changes you’re talking about sound excellent. It will also allow me to find some 2021 balls at a discount … YAY!

It’s not just all about ball speed in terms of distance. Sure, high compression balls will have more ball speed than lower compression balls, but they also have more spin. Most amateur golfers (i.e., the 99% of the golfing population who don’t have 110mph+ driver swing speeds) will hit the ball further using a mid-compression ball like the RX vs. a high compression ball like the X. The same applies with the mid-compression Titleist Tour Speed vs. the ProV. Why? Because, for slower golf swings, less spin equals longer distance even with a lower ball speed. The mid-compression ball will fly straighter, too. Ball speed alone does not equal more distance. It’s the combination of ball speed plus the correct amount of spin for a given swing speed that will produce the longest and straightest distance. For example, generally speaking, if I swing my driver at 90mph, I will not hit a ProV further than a Tour Speed. The ProV will come off the club faster, but that extra spin will negate any advantage it has over the Tour Speed in terms of distance. Same with the X and the RX. It’s only when the swing speed gets above a certain velocity that the ball speed can overcome the extra spin to provide more distance, compared to a lower compression ball.

Rich, “It’s the combination of ball speed plus the correct amount of spin for a given swing speed that will produce the longest and straightest distance.” You are 100% absolutely correct…….I used to do ball fitting for Bridgestone Golf, and that is exactly how we would explain it to our clientele.. Cheers, Rich!!

Yes, but this is where I argue the more spin is the why to go for the slower and shorter hitter.

Take my wife, the BXS was a revelation for her. Like you say, with the driver, the Higher Ball Speed + High Spin combo effectively equalled the Lower Baal Speed + Low Sping combo.

But she hits 3 wood and long hybrid into almost all greens (ladies tees are too long). She finally has the ability to stop some of these shots on the green.

So higher spin hs it’s advantages.

Tony, can you give us an idea of how the new tour B X and XS compare in trajectory/spin with the titleist balls? It sounds like Tour B X would flight most similar to Pro V1 but with a firmer feel and (possibly) more ball speed

A really good summary of the performance differences between these balls…probably the best I’ve read.

I don’t play Bridgestone regularly but do like to try them when I find them. I have <105 mph swing speed but the RX and RXS have never worked for me. The Tiger ball (which I find a lot of) does play really well but I thought it shouldn't. Tony's point about the XS play-ability for someone like me really resonated, I've been reluctant to buy XS thinking my good play was a fluke but now I'll probably buy a dozen (or two).

2022 Bridgestone Tour B X, Tour B XS, Tour B RX & Tour B RXS Golf Ball Review

More in reviews:.

PUR Truth Trainer

50 Words or Less

The 2022 Bridgestone Tour B golf ball line up continues to lead the industry.  A Tour ball for every player type and swing speed.  Modest changes over the 2020 versions.

tour b rxs golf balls

Introduction

In 2020, the new Bridgestone Tour B golf balls were the surprise stars of the PGA Show [full review HERE ].  They debuted a new cover material that allowed the ball to spin less in the long game and more in the short game – the holy grail of golf ball performance.  Two years later, there’s a new Tour B.  Can it possibly outperform its show stopping predecessor?

tour b rxs golf balls

On the green, the feel of the Bridgestone Tour B line up has been tweaked slightly.  The Tour B X remains the firmest of the group , though it’s still slightly softer than a Pro V1 to me.  As in previous years, the Tour B XS is noticeably softer than the Tour B X .  The sound off the putter is quieter and duller.

The change comes on the RX side of the family.  In the past, the RX has been very similar to the XS and the RXS has been far and away the softest.  For 2022, Bridgestone has matched the feel of the RX to the X and the RXS to the XS.  This gives players with sub-105 MPH swing speed the ability to have a slightly firmer, more responsive ball on the green.

With wedges and irons, I found that the Tour B X and Tour B RX had a soft, solid feel with a slight click at impact.  The softer versions, the XS and RXS, feel even softer and don’t have any click.

tour b rxs golf balls

Matt Meeker and I tested the 2022 Bridgestone Tour B golf ball line up independently to see how they performed for a player under 105 MPH and one at/slightly above 105 MPH.

For Meeker , there was a 500 RPM bump with the Tour B RX over the Tour B RXS .  This didn’t produce significant differences in carry or total distances, but the Tour B RX did fly higher and had a steeper landing angle.  This cuts against the expected results and is more evidence that every player should test a few different models.

I tested all four models and found all of them within the average to high range for short game spin .  The Tour B X stood out as the lowest spinning, though not by a lot.  Tour B XS spun more for me on pitches and full wedge shots, but the gap was only a few hundred RPM.  The gap between the RX and RXS was quite small for me – both spun at the same level as the XS.

tour b rxs golf balls

For Matt Meeker , the Tour B RX and Tour B RXS were “amazingly similar” with the mid irons through the driver .  I suspect this is due in large part to his robotic consistency.  Also, Meeker’s swing is not extreme.  Players with very steep or shallow angles of attack will likely see large performance differences between models.  Ditto for players who severely deloft or “flip” the club at impact.

In my testing with Foresight GCQuad , I got great speed and consistency from the Tour B X and Tour B XS .  Tour B X has iron spin in the average range for a Tour ball, Tour B XS was about 500 RPM higher, on average.  It’s always worth mentioning that I’m a fairly low spin player, so you may find larger gaps between the models.  Neither the Tour B RX or RXS are my prescribed fit.  That showed in less consistent speed and spin numbers.

Moving to the driver, I got the same exceptional ball speed from the 2022 Tour B X and Tour B XS that I got from the previous generation.  As expected, I saw less spin from the Tour B X compared to the XS.  Again, the difference was not huge for me – a couple hundred RPM.  It may be larger for higher spin players.

tour b rxs golf balls

Two out of two Matts agree that the 2022 Bridgestone Tour B golf balls are fantastic.  Not only is each ball a great performer, but the messaging is clear and sensible.  As Meeker said, “You can play the same technology as Tiger, but refined for your game.”  Check out one of Bridgestone’s many ball fitting options and find the best one for your game.

When referencing swing speed, is that for driver?

' src=

Thanks for the review. Did you happen to hit the RX and RXS off the driver also? I’m interested to know if there are ball speed differences between that and the X and XS.

Additionally, did you happen to notice launch angle/ peak height differences in the wedges?

I did not find any ball speed differences between the X and XS or notable launch angle differences with wedges.

' src=

What a great write up, very much appreciated guys. I am 105-110 mph driver swing speed and love the old model Tour B RXS, can’t wait to try the new models

' src=

Have hit the RXS for 2 years with driver swing speed of 106 and loved them. Just recently tried the be Srixon Z Star Diamond and have been extremely impressed with all aspects. Any reviews for that ball planned?

We have a review of the Z Star Diamond here: https://pluggedingolf.com/srixon-z-star-diamond-golf-ball-review/

With a driver swing speed averaging 95, I bought a box of RX and RXS. B-Stone touts RX as having more greenside spin this year, which I value. Played the RXS last year and thought it needed slightly more greenside spin. I thought the 2020 B – XS was great around the greens in comparison but I don’t have the speed for that on the long ball.

Sounds as if you are finding that greenside spin on the RX and RXS has improved. DId I get that right?

Great review. Did Matt Meeker test the X or XS balls? I know his SS is less than 105, but it would be interesting to read his results. Ping’s Ballnamic recommended the X for me, although my driver SS is in the low 90s. I haven’t given it a try due to Bridgestone’s recommendation that the R X would be the better ball for me based on SS, although I am curious as to how the X or XS would react at slower SS.

' src=

I did not test the X or XS George. If you get a chance to compare, let us know your results.

Really enjoyed this review of the Tour B line. I am one of those rare players that have a slower swing speed, but have best results with the XS due to the spin I get from it. All in all the Tour B line is terrific!!

I’m a 8 handicap with a 98to101 swing speed I play the Bridgestone E12 contact ball it is the straightest and best ball I’ve found would like to no your thoughts

We have a full review of the e12 here: https://pluggedingolf.com/bridgestone-e12-contact-golf-ball-review/

If the xs and the Rxs were both hit at 100 club head speed how much distance would the xs lose as it is designed for over 105

I don’t think there would be a significant difference in ball speed, if any.

Bridgestone 2024 Tour B XS Golf Ball Review

Joe Ferguson puts the Bridgestone 2024 Tour B XS golf ball to the test...

Photo of the Bridgestone 2024 Tour B XS Golf Ball

This ball very much delivers on the claims from Bridgestone. Extremely high levels of spin make this a really effective and fun ball around the greens. Well struck pitch shots stop obediently on the second bounce and the spin on longer approach shots give increased confidence to attack even very tight pin positions.

Exceptionally high greenside spin

Tricky to knock down into a head wind

Notable driver distance loss versus Tour B X

Why you can trust Golf Monthly Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

Joe Ferguson

Bridgestone Golf has released a new range of Tour B golf balls for 2024 including the RX, RXS, X and XS. In this review we will be assessing the Tour B XS and seeing if it sits amongst the best golf balls of 2024.

The previous iteration of the Tour B XS was a very popular ball, so I was interested to see how the 2024 version had moved on.

Bridgestone says that the new Reactiv X system creates more rebound on tee shots to increase distance and stays on the face longer on approach shots which provides more spin and a softer feel on shorter, more precision shots.

Bridgestone also says that this ball is designed for players who produce more than 105 mph of driver speed and as someone who fits into that category, I was keen to explore the performance.

On my long shots, I found the ball speeds to be consistent albeit a little bit slower than the Tour B X version, averaging around 1.5 mph slower throughout the bag.

Spin numbers were most definitely on the higher side for me throughout my long game testing, with the driver coming in at around 2400 rpm, 7 iron producing approximately 6800 rpm and pitching wedge spinning around 9650 rpm. This predictably produced a significantly greater peak height, and as such a sharper descent angle which would be ideal for those playing on generally firm greens. The downside I found was a good 8-10 yards of distance loss on my driver which for me nullifies the benefit. I may be able to hit my approach slightly higher and spin it a touch more, but I would likely be hitting one more club from where my tee shot ends up so the additional spin would be canceled out by the significant less loft in my hand.

Around the green is where the Tour B XS really shines. I don't know if I have tried a spinnier ball around the greens since the balata days, and I seriously enjoyed my short game session with this ball. Feeling the cover grip on to the club face was a real throwback and the reactions on the greens were exceptional. Off well struck pitch and bunker shots, the Tour B XS would dig into the green like it was pitching into Velcro! I actually felt my technique improving as I could freely and aggressively attack the ball knowing that it wouldn’t get away from me on the first bounce, allowing me to throw the ball further up the green and check it up obediently.

As my short game session was so much fun, it went on for quite a while so I did put these balls through quite a lot of punishment during testing and they stood up really well from a durability point of view. Just some tiny blemishes to the cover were apparent after a few mid-range bunker shots but nothing that you wouldn’t see on any of the other best premium golf balls .

Bridgestone has also introduced a new concept which it refers to as MindSet. Essentially this is a new logo that has been printed on the side of the ball, scientifically designed to help you separate analytical thoughts from athletic performance. It is designed to provide a visual cue to remind you of a three step process to get your mind ready to perform the shot at hand. These steps are; identifying your target, visualizing the shot path and finally focussing on the dot to clear your mind and help you execute.

It may sound a bit complex when reading this, but in practice it is actually very straightforward, and although I was initially skeptical I actually found it quite an effective way of adding a bit of structure to my pre-shot routine.

At $49.99 a dozen, the Tour B XS is sensibly priced and is a ball certainly worth testing for the higher swing speed player looking for maximum control around the greens.

Bridgestone's Tour B Mindset golf balls: What you need to know

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2020/08/Bridgestone Mindset ball.jpg

What you need to know: Drafting off its recent release of its new Tour B golf balls , Bridgestone takes another step by offering its four models (X, XS, RX and RXS) with Mindset. More than a simple golf-ball ornamentation, Mindset was developed with staff player Jason Day and his long-time mental coach, Jason Goldsmith, homing in on Day’s pre-shot routine and visualization to arrive at the final pattern.

Price/Availability: Available in stores Feb. 16, the Mindset balls cost the same as the standard versions at $50 a dozen.

3 Cool Things

1. Commit to the process. Being more than an interesting stamp on a ball, Mindset requires the golfer to put in a little work. That’s not always easy to do with golfers seeking magic elixirs and immediate gratification.

In this instance, it is a commitment to the Mindset process. “Jason Goldsmith and I worked together to develop a pre-shot system that went beyond the simple visualization I did when I was a kid,” said Day. “He understood how critical pre-shot visualization was to my game, but also knew I needed a more structured, complete routine. Now Bridgestone has made the Mindset process available to all golfers, which is going to be a game changer for a lot of people.”

More From Golf Digest

tour b rxs golf balls

2. Red, yellow, green, go!! That process involves three steps: Identify, visualize and focus, with each associated with one of the colored circles.

The first step has players looking at the outer, red circle of the graphic. This is the identify aspect and requires the player to identify the target and gather information regarding distance, wind conditions, club selection, and shot shape. The next step moves on to the inner yellow circle which is to visualize the shot shape to the target. The final step is the green dot which promotes full focus on execution.

“You kind of hone in and the colors are a little bit like when drag racing,” said Dan Murphy, president of Bridgestone. “With your red, yellow and green, you kind of build up to where you're going with the green which means go and you're executing the shot. It took probably 20 to 25 different iterations to get it right.”

3. Tour tested. Day’s involvement and commitment to Mindset cannot be understated as anytime a former World No. 1 is persuing something, it typically warrants a look. Day started playing the ball in competition at The Sentry in Hawaii in January but the Mindset process is nothing new for him. Day has worked on the process for several years and now simply has a visual clue to assist the process.
