By Jon Blistein
Jon Blistein
Nine Inch Nails will return to the road for the first time in four years with a string of headlining gigs scheduled for the spring and late summer
The band will kick things off with a quick three-show run: April 28 in Raleigh, North Carolina, April 30 in Atlanta and May 1 in Franklin, Tennessee (just outside of Nashville). A lengthier trek will begin with two shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado Sept. 2 and 3, and wrap Sept. 24 with a special hometown gig at the the Blossom Music Center in Cleveland that will also feature sets from Ministry and Nitzer Ebb.
Nine Inch Nails have enlisted the help of several artists to provide support during the rest of the trek. Boy Harsher will join for gigs in Raleigh, North Carolina and Franklin, Tennessee, while 100 Gecs will open at both shows in Philadelphia. Yves Tumor will then perform during a stretch of gigs, Sept. 2 through 15.
Tickets for Nine Inch Nails’ tour will go on sale Feb. 11 at 10 a.m. local time. A fan presale will start Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. local time. Full information is available on Nine Inch Nails’ website .

Nine Inch Nails were scheduled to tour in 2020 and 2021, but scrapped those gigs because of the pandemic. The group has stayed busy over the past couple years, releasing two albums in 2020, Ghosts V: Together and Ghosts VI: Locusts , and teaming up with noise-rock group Health for a new song, “Isn’t Everyone,” last May. In 2020, Nine Inch Nails were also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame .
Outside the band, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have kept characteristically busy with other projects as well, like producing Halsey’s most recent album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power . The duo also won their second Best Original Score Oscar in 2020 for their work on the Pixar movie Soul with Jon Batiste (they were nominated in the same category that year, too, for David Fincher’s Mank ).

Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction Tour Dates Announced
Nine Inch Nails and the original Jane's Addiction lineup will embark on a May/June co-headlining tour that will see these seminal artists sharing a stage for the first time since the historic debut of the Lollapalooza festival in 1991. The genesis of the upcoming tour came about in late 2008 after NIN's Trent Reznor was tapped to produce Jane's first recordings since reforming.
The NIN/JA tour will feature a streamlined NIN with Reznor on vocals, guitars, keys, Robin Finck on guitars and keys, Justin Meldal-Johnsen on bass and keys, and newest NIN member IIan Rubin on drums and keys. NIN's stripped down configuration for the upcoming dates was inspired by a pair of club shows toward the end of last year's wildly ambitious Lights in the Sky tour. Leaving the massive production in the trucks for those two nights freed up the band for spontaneous performances including several seldom-aired NIN classics and inspired NIN to take a similarly unencumbered and unpredictable approach to the May/June dates, which include previously announced NIN appearances at the Sasquatch and Bonnaroo festivals.
For the first time in 17 years, the original lineup of Jane’s Addiction will tour - vocalist Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins. The possibility of reforming first took shape in April 2008 when the musicians performed and accepted the Godlike Genius Award bestowed on them by N.M.E. Magazine at their US Awards ceremony. The band then tested the waters with small, secret shows around the Los Angeles area and the tremendous excitement from the shows lead to their decision to tour again.
The “full circle” nature of the co-headlining tour has not been lost on the artists, with Reznor recently blogging…
“Towards the beginning of my career in Nine Inch Nails, our biggest break came in the form of an invitation to perform a series of shows with Jane’s Addiction. These performances essentially created and defined the term “alternative” rock in the US, created an ongoing festival franchise that is still thriving (Lollapalooza), set the stage for Nirvana to shift popular taste a few months later, and were really fucking FUN to play and attend - truly the best times I’ve had. The shows were epic. So epic, they propelled NIN to the “next level” (whatever that means), but caused Jane’s to implode. The band broke up at the end of that tour.”
Jane’s guitarist Dave Navarro responded in kind, paying homage to the recent collaboration with the Nine Inch Nails frontman and revealing enthusiasm for the upcoming shows.
“Since our reformation, we have been spending a lot of time with Trent in the rehearsal studio and in the recording studio, working on new stuff, addressing some old stuff and more importantly, creating a friendship and working relationship,” Navarro explains. “It's rare that touring partners have an opportunity to spend so much time together creatively before a tour. Regardless of the collaborative outcome, our time with Trent has brought forth a new focus and sense of purpose that we plan to share with you on a nightly basis.”

Nine Inch Nails Reveal Spring + Fall 2022 U.S. Tour Dates
Nine Inch Nails ' 2021 tour plans did not come to fruition , but the band will be back on stages in 2022.
In fact, the group has just announced a brief run of spring tour dates, with a larger fall itinerary to follow. The spring run appears to be centered around the band's appearance at the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta on April 30, with dates booked in Raleigh, North Carolina and Franklin, Tennessee bookending the festival week.
As for the fall, the band will get back underway with a two-night stand Sept. 2-3 at Denver's Red Rocks Amphitheatre. More dates are booked through the month of September, winding down Sept. 24 at Cleveland's Blossom Music Center. While support acts have not been named for either of the tours, it was revealed that Ministry and Nitzer Ebb would open that final Cleveland date.
While Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have primarily been tied up with their scoring work in recent years and they did take time out to produce Halsey's latest album, Reznor did tease a likely recording return for Nine Inch Nails last year right after their Oscar win for the Soul original score .
"What we've tried to do ... is break it up where we do some rock music and come back and do some film work. We've just done three pretty big [scores] with Watchme n, Mank and Soul in a row," stated Reznor in a post-Oscar interview. "We should be on tour but Covid has prevented that and we are planning on working on Nine Inch Nails material as soon as probably tomorrow."
Tickets for Nine Inch Nails spring and fall shows will go on sale this Friday (Feb. 11) at 10AM local time. Check their website for ticketing info.

Nine Inch Nails Announce 2022 U.S. Tour
By Matthew Strauss
Nine Inch Nails have announced a U.S. tour that will find them playing their first live shows since 2018 . The tour kicks off in Raleigh, North Carolina in April and includes appearances at the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta and the inaugural Primavera Sound Los Angeles . The tour is currently scheduled to wrap up with a show in Cleveland featuring special guests Ministry and Nitzer Ebb. Check out Nine Inch Nails’ tour schedule below.
Like plenty of bands since the start of the pandemic , Nine Inch Nails have been foiled in their plans to return to the road. Most recently, Nine Inch Nails were forced to cancel a handful of 2021 concerts . Making the best of the situation, the group sold merch that was meant to be available at the shows.
Since they last toured in 2018, Nine Inch Nails have released Ghosts V: Together and Ghosts VI: Locusts . In addition, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have released music for Bird Box , Watchmen , Soul , Mank , and more. The musicians also worked with Halsey on If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power and took home the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Score for their work on Soul .

Unveiling the Self Destruct tour: Behind the Scenes with Nine Inch Nails The Music is Talking with Alexander Hallag
Do you like Nine Inch Nails? Did you see them on their infamous Self Destruct Tour? Step back in time with us as we explore some of the riveting chronicles of this tour captured through the eyes of filmmaker / photographer Jonathan Rach. He is currently in Melbourne Australia and is showcasing a very limited pop up exhibition of his never before seen photographs of that tour. This exhibition has been brought to us by Stephen Dallimore who is the creative director of Behind The Music Gallery and also a guest with us today. Behind The Music Gallery is a new way to see and purchase iconic music photography. Jonathan was initially a stage designer whose designs were accepted by Trent on what would be known as the Self Destruct Tour. Shortly after this he was asked to be be a fly on the wall and film the tour as there was a feeling in the air that this was going to be something very special. We are also honoured to be joined by Chris Vrenna, who was the original founding drummer of Nine Inch Nails. Both he and Jonathan recall some of their tour experiences and their own unique experiences with flying microphone stands. Our engaging discussion also reveals intimate moments of tenderness of touring with David Bowie. As the curtain falls to this episode, we leave with the passion of Chris Vrenna, who now channels his creative energies into educating emerging artists and musicians. A testament to the mentorship that shapes tomorrow's creative voices, and a reaffirmation of the legacy and timeless influence of Nine Inch Nails. Nine Inch Nails' 'The Downward Spiral' still speaks difficult truth 30 years later
S onically, Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral has many brothers and sisters. While few industrial metal albums match the full quality of the NIN record, there is at least somewhat of a similar sound. The pingy aggressiveness that ranges from silence to a wall of sound has been borrowed, used, and evolved. While The Downward Spiral won't disappoint you in the quality of its engineering, there is no longer a large separation between it and other metal LPs.
What truly separates the record from most other industrial albums is that while artists such as Youth Code and Static-X were screaming with anger at the world outside them, Trent Reznor directed most of his lyrics at himself. While listening to The Downward Spiral can be invigorating and exciting, the record is anything but a happy one.
In fact, NIN's album was one of self-hate and complete darkness. But not so much that Reznor was not aware of what he was saying. Depression can too often be a secretive disease where one hides away because the world is full of bullies and the unsympathetic, so at least Reznor was able to have an outlet for his own depression. That likely helped others struggling with melancholy whether that was Reznor's intent or not.
30 years later, The Downward Spiral from Nine Inch Nails is still important
The Downward Spiral was released 30 years ago as of March 8. On the band's website and in honor of the release date, Reznor wrote, "Spending too much time looking backwards feels dangerous to me, but this day on the calendar caught my attention...I just spent an hour listening to this time capsule of what 28 year old me had to say, and it still excites me and breaks my heart."
Reznor has been given the gift of reflection, but he also had the gift of introspection when he was writing and recording the album. What makes an artist great is not just making catchy songs, but creating music that connects with listeners from one generation to the next. While some of the references in the lyrics might feel a little dated (what album after 30 years is not going to have some older references?), the topic of struggling with one's emotions will always be relevant.
Of the 14 tracks on the record, there is not one that is unworthy to still listen to. The rush of "March of the Pigs" remains. The body blows of "Closer" are still felt. "Hurt" continues to hint at a fight against eternally letting go. The album was brilliant in 1994, and The Downward Spiral is vibrant in 2024 as well.

"In doing so we used a mix of imagery from the NIN archive, including original album art as well as live photos from their iconic Woodstock '94 set, and mashed them up with brand new illustrations from Jason."
The collection — which notably includes a badass football jersey and knit sweater — is selling out fast, so visit WelcomeSkateboards.com ASAP.
