What Other Travelers Say
Customer reviews.
I absolutely loved flying over the mountains to a hidden lake. One of the best experiences ever. I liked it even better than the helicopter flight. Fabulous views.
What a great way to experience Misty Fjords...
Adam Weiland was my pilot on this fantastic scenic tour of the fjords....He is a skilled pilot and very informative, friendly and knowledgeable. It was a pleasure...be sure to ask for Adam...and tell him Victoria sent you... : )
These planes are such a great part of history and very well maintained- I loved the views and the pilots talks- the music in the headphones was great too- I would do this every chance I could- don't miss it!

Misty Fjords flightseeing
We booked this as a shore excursion on our Alaska cruise. The meeting instructions were clear and not far from the ship. Ketchikan has loads of jewelry shops and it is easy to be detained in one.

Great excursion!
Did the floatplane tour to Misty Fjords as a cruise shore excursion. It was wonderful! Felt very safe in the plane and the views were phenomenal!!
Awesome Afternoon
Our pilot, Mike, and the fantastic folks at Taquan Air helped Scott and I plan our perfect wedding at the Misty Fjords! Special thanks to Forrest who did photos, Faith & Deandra, our witnesses, and Mike, our pilot/officiant/planner extraordinaire!

Floatplane tour of the Misty Fjords
It was the highlight of our trip. Never thought I would stand on water but he carefully guided this old lady onto the pontoon and I can check one more thing off my bucket list.

Best Flight Ever
Our pilot was very competent and we had great confidence in his ability, especially since he informed us that he served in the Middle East and worked on his own plane. I was given the privilege of riding up front.
UNFORGETTABLE
Despite a fear of heights and, therefore, a degree of pre-flight nervousness this was an experience I would not have missed for the world. A sunny, clear day, magnificent scenery and a great pilot in John.

Fly me to the Moon, Larry
I wasn’t the most confident flyer in my group but Larry’s approach was reassuring, kind and courteous. All in all a tip top gentlemen. Oh the sights were pretty awesome too.
Neets Bay Tour
Excellent tour to Neets Bay and salmon hatchery. Saw bears, eagles, seals, and other wildlife in their natural habitat. Beautiful scenery on flight and at tour location. Knowledgeable friendly and professional staff, guides & pilot. Highly Recommend!
Awesome time
Our pilot Larry did an awesome job with the flight, narration, and landing in an isolated bay. Getting out and standing on the pontoons in the bay was the best!
Fantastic Experience
We booked very last minute through our cruise ship (Norwegian) because we hadn't really planned anything for Ketchikan and boy are we glad we did! Such an incredible experience, hauntingly beautiful and very professional/safe. I recommend it!

Misty Fjord Tour - Great
Tour of Misty Fjord by float plane (arranged through the cruise ship). Felt quite safe all of the time. Flight stayed at about 800 feet, good enough to see a flying eagle.
Learning to Fly!
The take offs and landings are some of the smoothest and coolest you will ever experience. We went on a warm and sunny day, so no special clothing needed. A floatplane adventure is simply a "must do" in this area and Taquan Air is amazing.
Amazing flight
Fabulous flight with Larry! Incredible views and lots of laughs. Loved every minute of our tour from take off to landing!
Pennsylvania
Great experience!
The tour was exciting as I had never been in a seaplane before. Would definitely recommend it as a once in a lifetime experience.
Amazing adventure
Surpassed what we were expecting. A great way to see bears, bald eagles and the fiords from an aerial perspective. Well worth the money.
Best Tour on our Alaskan Cruise
Taquan Air does it right - they are friendly, organized, and safety-conscious. DON'T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY!
Neets Bay Bear Watch by Floatplane
This was an amazing tour! We were picked up from our cruise ship in a bus and taken to the floatplane dock. The floatplane pilot was very professional and pointed out all the interesting view points along the way.
Wonderful experience!
This trip to Neets Bay was WONDERFUL!! Beautiful views the pilot talked away as we flew about the sights and history of the planes. We saw all the bears, the jelly fish and sea stars are on the dock. We got so close to the bears! They got us back safely and on time to our cruise ship!

Float Plane through the misty fjords
What a super experience! Our Pilot Larry Conrad, really made the trip exciting as he related all the history as flew through the fjords. Loved it!
We had a great tour. The pilots were fabulous and Allie was a phenomenal bear guide. Thanks for a great tour and I would recommend to others.
The highlight of an amazing trip!
Our pilot was just fantastic!! This should not be missed. The views are just incredible. I also left a cell phone behind and they retrieved it for me. A+
South Carolina
Breathtaking views!
Loved the majestic views around every corner from our 6 seater seaplane, piloted by Harry, who was very personable and knowledgeable. We thought it was worth the money and was a once in a lifetime type of excursion!!

NEETS BAY BEAR TOUR
This was the highlight of my cruise to Alaska on Oceania Cruises! Great flight, lots of bears feeding at the hatchery and the best flight back to the dock. Our pilot, CHUCK, was the best!!! Thanks for making our trip to Alaska.
Fantastic floatplane experience!
This was by far the best trip of our holiday! We saw sealions and mountain goats as well as spectacular views. Thank you Taquan Air, Chuck and Joshua, you are doing a great job!
Fantastic tour!
This is a floatplane tour and it was so incredible! Our Pilot (tour guide) Larry was very informative and had a sense of humor. It was an informative and viewable tour. Thanks Taquan Air!
Neets Bay Bear Adventure
Excellent, Amazing experience, your pilots will make you feel comfortable on your smooth ride to Neets Bay and we were blessed with an appearance of 6 bears and many eagles. Definitely worth the price!
Neets Bay float plane and bear watch
Brilliant trip to Neets Bay with Taquan Air tours! Booked as an excursion from celebrity cruise - not cheap but this one was worth it. Exhilarating flight in a float plane piloted by Harry, provided stunning scenery and gentle landing at Neets bay.
GREAT SEAPLANE RIDE!
Incredible seaplane ride with a great pilot. The highlight was going to Anan Creek and seeing the bears feed on salmon. It was really a once in a lifetime experience. Highly recommend!
EXCELLENT FLIGHT!
Taquan ultimately provided us with a fantastic and memorable tour, and we highly recommend them for anyone looking to take a flight/float plane tour out of Ketchikan.
BREATHTAKING VIEWS
My wife & I took the “bear tour”. We flew in old DeHaviland Beaver float planes from Ketchikan to Traders Cove, about 20 minutes each way. Our pilots (one for each direction) were excellent & experienced & provided helpful info.

FLOAT PLANE TO SEE BEARS
The bears and Salmon ladder are amazing- nothing like it. I would absolutely do it again. Our guide to see the bears was dedicated and very knowledgeable.
FLOAT PLANE TO BLACK BEARS TOUR !!!!
OMG !!!!!!!!!!!! What a professional group, best excursion of our cruise trip. The pilots, planes, bus driver and staff ... Would highly recommend seeing Alaska via a sea plane.
FLOATPLANE FROM KETCHIKAN TO NEETS BAY BEARWATCHING
Professional warm friendly set-up in a beautiful 1960 Classic De Havilland Otter aircraft. What a trip...
NEETS BAY BEAR WATCH & FLIGHTSEEING – INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!
The Neets Bay Bear Watch & Flightseeing tour was one of the highlights of our cruise on the Star Princess. The entire experience was well-organized and well-executed.
Highly recommended!!
NEETS BAY BEAR TOURS – GREAT FLIGHT AND WE DID SEE A COUPLE OF BEARS
We were sailing Carnival and next to last port of call was Ketchikan. We opted for the Neets Bay Bear Watch tour. Great time.. thank you..
NEETS BAY BEAR WATCHING BY FLOAT PLANE
Ketchikan was amazing. We had a clear day and the scenery was spectacular. Our pilot, Adam, took us to the bay by one route and then back to Ketchikan by a more scenic route - spectacular views. Highly recommend this excursion.
ALASKA LAND/CRUISE
This flight was very interesting. You get to see things that you could not see otherwise and from a different perspective. We did the flight to Misty Fjords National Monument and boat back. Highly recommend this flight as an excursion.
Our Misty Fjords Flight Was a Thrill of a Lifetime!
The pilot, Clark Hassle, was friendly, knowledgeable, and highly skilled. His piloting skills were the best we ever experienced. We hardly felt the plane land on the glassy, glacier lake. Highly recommend this flight.
This excursion was the highlight of our week long Alaska cruise! Our pilot, Adam, was both entertaining and knowledgeable. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, and the flight was exhilarating.
FLOAT PLANE SCENIC FLIGHT TO MISTY FJORDS WITH LANDING
This tour was really one of the best I have been on. Chuck (the pilot) was exceptionally friendly and interacted well with the passengers. The views were just amazing and the plane was roomy. This is a must do tour. And I would ask to fly with Chuck again.

FANTASTIC SEAPLANE TOUR OF THE MISTY’S
Experienced a fantastic tour of the Misty Fjords. Loved the Beaver aircraft! Pilot Larry is a terrific pilot. Good, trustworthy people at Taquan and a solid organization. Thanks for a great and memory lasting experience!!
Highlight of our Alaska Tour
Of all the things we looked forward to on our Alaska trip, the floatplane tour was in the top 3, actually #1 on my husband's list. Larry, our pilot, did not disappoint. Great pilot, great tour. Everyone should do this!

Beautiful, educational, professional
Larry, our pilot, did an excellent job from start to finish, very professional, friendly and informative. We had a sunny day, so the fjords were not misty, not his fault. Stunning!
Great Experience
A must do once in your lifetime. Really gives a perspective of the Fjords and the Alaskan Wilderness. It was an incredible experience!
Bayville, NJ
Fabulous Experience
Booked through Holland America and well worth it. Our pilot, Larry, went out of his way to put a nervous passenger (me!) instantly at ease and provided an unforgettable two hour trip which my husband and I would highly recommend and would repeat in a heartbeat.

Great overview of region
This was the first excursion we did in Alaska and I thought it was a great way to start our Alaska experience. Our pilot Harry was great, very interesting and thoughtful for our comfort and safety.

WOW - WOW - WOW - This was my #1 excursion during my 7-day Alaskan cruise
We flew at 3K feet. The views were beyond words. "Stunning, beautiful, breath-taking, spectacular", I could go on and on. I will never forget this excursion.
North Carolina
We had so much fun!
For us this was definitely once in a lifetime and we enjoyed every minute. The flight. The water landing where we were allowed to stand on the pontoons and breathe in the beauty. It was a wonderful experience and one we will never forget.
Beautiful Trip Courtesy of Mike and Taquan Air!
This excursion was fantastic so leave behind your fear, your land-bound fellow travelers. You'll see trees, and lounging seals and teal water that will make you put down your camera.
I really enjoyed this and would definitely go again.
Great Alaskan Experience!!
I would highly recommend this to anyone who has ever wanted to fly in a sea plane cause it truly is worth your time and money!
Amazing Float Plane Trip.
The float plane ride over the Misty Fjords was incredible. Several of us got out and walked on the plane floats. A must do for anyone visiting Ketchikan.
Incredible views over the Misty Fjords - Jim is the best!
We were lucky enough to come on a perfectly sunny day in Ketchikan was beautiful. Jim's water landings and take-offs were smoother than most commercial airliners, and his narration was fun and informative.
Amazing! Not to be missed
I don't like small planes, but I love adventure so I signed up for a Sea plane tour and crab feed. The crab was amazing, but the flight was even better. We had a beautiful day, so safety was not a concern. We flew over beautiful mountains, lakes and streams, and very close to the cliffs. The sea landing was amazing. I loved this experience. GO!
Absolutely stunning views
We were in the air for about an hour and got to enjoy an all-you-can-eat crab leg feast at the conclusion of this tour. Pricey, but would absolutely do again.
Awesome customer service. Great tour!
Flew on a sightseeing and crab dinner combo. The flight was great. Top notch operation. Safety minded. The bus drive back from the dinner was also a lot a fun as the bus driver, a young lady from Arkansas, was something of a comedian.
The highlight of three weeks in Canada and Alaska!
Having travelled from Calgary to Vancouver on the Rocky Mountaineer, then spent a week,on Vancouver Island, followed by a cruise to the Hubbard glacier and nearly back we little thought that the undoubted highlight of the trip was to be found in Ketchican.
Amazing trip.
We did a sea plane tour of the misty fjords during our Disney cruise recently, culminating in a crab feast at the George Inlet lodge. The float plane part of the experience with Taquan air was amazing, and felt completely one of a kind.
Our Crab Fest Flight was awesome!
Our pilot was so so knowledgeable during our flight and shared so much fantastic information on what we were seeing. We arrived at George Inlet Lodge for our crab feast. (separate review) If ever back in Alaska I would definitely book with these guys again for a tour!
Amazing flightseeing and all-you-can-eat crab feast
Our group ranged in age from 12-71 and everyone had a great time. Our pilot was knowledgeable and friendly, and the staff at the George Inlet Lodge were great. The flight was relatively short but we enjoyed stunning views. Lunch was delicious.
Magnificent Misty Fjords Seaplane
We landed in Misty Fjords National Park and stepped out onto the skids/floats to further experience the beauty of the region. We loved every minute of this special trip and Taquan Air gave us an unforgettable experience. We highly recommend this tour!
My family and I took a float plane over the Misty Fjords during our cruise through the Inside Passage of Alaska. experience was one of the best memories of our trip.
The views are things that you only see on postcards.

Float Plane to Salmon Hatchery to watch bears
Our pilot, Chuck was awesome! My youngest daughter got to sit up front with him. On way out he made several passes to show us some bears on the beach and then on the way back, he made a couple detours to descend and show us some hard to see mountain goats. Great pilot and narrator!

Ketchikan, the most southeasternmost city in Alaska is also the fifth most populous city in the state with a population of around 8,000 residents. It was established in 1885 by Mike Martin and named after Ketchikan Creek, which flows through the city. During the first half of the 20th century, Ketchikan was infamous for it’s red-light district with brothels on either side of the creek. This area is known as Creek Street and is now home to museums and gift shops.

Prince of Wales Bear Viewing Tour
PRICES: $450 Per Person
The Experience
Enjoy Ketchikan bear viewing and let SeaWind Aviation take you westward out of Ketchikan by seaplane towards Prince of Wales Island, the third-largest island in the United States. On the 20-minute flight, you will see the islands and waterways that make up this portion of the Inside Passage and your pilot will narrate along the way. After you touch down in Polk Inlet, a long finger of saltwater where Dog Salmon Creek meets the sea, you will meet your personal Alaska Bear Guide. Your guide will drive you about one mile down a United States Forest Service (USFS) road to a trailhead. You will be safely escorted down the trail (approximately 250 yards) to the Dog Salmon Creek Bear Viewing platform. It is in this creek that four species of salmon come to spawn and drives the bears to the area. Along the trail, your guide will point out the flora, fauna, berries, and trees as well as any wildlife you encounter.
USFS Facility
The Dog Salmon Creek Bear Viewing observatory is maintained by the USFS whose policy allows bear tours from late July into mid-September. We operate our bear viewing tours from the beginning of August through early-September in order to maximize the peak of the bear viewing season. To protect this delicate habitat, only a small number of visitors are allowed on the platform at one time and there is a restriction for the total number of visitors per day. As a result, you are guaranteed an intimate and awe-inspiring experience. An opportunity to visit this location is an opportunity not to be missed! It is as advised to book this tour as early as possible due to this strict availability.
The Highlights
- Visit a USFS bear viewing facility on Prince of Wales Island.
- There is a high likelihood of seeing wildlife.
- Enjoy a nature walk of approximately ¼ mile round trip.
- An experienced Alaska Bear Guide will accompany you.
- The trip includes a round trip flight over the Inside Passage.
- Personalized narration.
- Headsets have interactive two-way communication during the flight.
- Tour length is 3 hours with up to 45 minutes of flying.
- Click on image to the left to watch a video of this tour.
- Click on any image to start a slideshow.
The Amenities
Upon arrival to the platform, you will be at a prime vantage point to see Alaska’s REAL fisherman! First, watch the true champions of nature – the 4 species of salmon battling in the last part of their life, to arrive upstream to spawn. They are fighting not just the swift current but also the bears. See the black bears that are fattening up for winter, plunge into the rushing water, jaws wide to eat the wild salmon. Besides bears feeding, you are also likely to see Bald Eagles and Ravens feeding on salmon scraps left over by the bears. Your naturalist / guide will answer any questions you have about the local wildlife, flora and fauna.

“Great Flight and Bears on Prince of Wales Island”
“My wife and I had booked a tour with one of SeaWind Aviation’s competitors who had to cancel at the last minute. However, they did not leave us out in the cold. They contacted SeaWind who scheduled us at the last minute and gave us a great tour. Leslie made sure we were ready and comfortable when the plane arrived and the flights were some of the smoothest I have ever had. There were a total of five of us on the 8 passengers DeHavilland Beaver. We were met on the island by our guide named Diamond. He is a long time Ketchikan resident (since the 30s) who was delightful. His knowledge of the area is amazing. We were able to see several black bears fishing including a mother and her twin cubs. My last photo at the stream is of two bears fishing with a bald eagle sitting in a tree overhead. Both on the way to the island and back we saw whales below us. Each time the pilot circled so we could watch and take photos.Doesn’t get much better than that! Highly recommend this company.”
“Outstanding excursion to see bears!!”
“This excursion was booked after our helicopter/glacier tour got canceled due to weather…and I’m so glad we did it! The flight was stunning and smooth! The scenery was just spectacular, especially when we landed! Our guide was excellent…The treck through the rain forest to the viewing platform was very smooth and absolutely gorgeous! We saw 5 black bears and a cub! They fished and ate – the mama fed her baby – we saw two of them get into a brief skirmish over their fishing spot!! It was one of our favorite excursions!”
“Bear watching on Prince of Wales Island via float plane!”
“Absolutely superb, fantastic flight, fantastic guide (Drew) and we saw black bears !! The bright blue sky and sun helped also !!”
