REVIEW | 2022 Chery Tiggo 4 Pro is a bit rough around the edges
It seems Haval is the Chinese brand on everyone’s lips at the moment. If you haven’t bought a unit of the expressively styled Jolion or sophisticated looking H6, at the very least you’ve encountered either in the metal or discussed them around the fireside.
F or many motoring commentators, this duo is regarded as the best automotive representatives yet to come from the Eastern country. They have elevated perceptions of what one usually expects of a car from China. The sales reflect this warm reception too. Haval sold 2,442 units last month, placing fifth in the country overall and beating players like Renault, Nissan, Ford and Kia. No easy feat.
Fellow countryman Chery is likely to have similar ambitions for the local market. It made a return to SA last year as a wholly-owned subsidiary, announcing the appointment of 30 dealers and a fresh product offensive.
Spearheading the introduction was the Tiggo 4 Pro, a B-segment sport-utility vehicle, competing in a segment in which there is no dearth of rivals. What made the November 2021 launch of the model more interesting was the release of a 10-year/1,000,000km warranty.
Of course a radical sweetener of this nature comes with its terms and conditions.
“The warranty has two elements, a standard five-year/150,000km factory warranty applies to all new Tiggo 4 Pro models sold, which remains with the vehicle,” said a statement from the manufacturer.
“The second, a free extension for another five years and a massive 850,000km focused on the engine, is added automatically at the end of the first warranty, provided the vehicle is still owned by the original owner.
“As is the standard practice throughout the industry, the warranty requires the service and repair of the vehicle by Chery dealerships, within Chery standards and using original Chery parts and components.”
In the fullness of time we will see if such a bullish proposition pays off for Chery.
We spent a week with the Tiggo 4 Pro recently, following a brief acquaintance last year in which we tested the vehicle in low-speed conditions at the Gerotek facility in Tshwane. Seven days with the model allowed us to prod beneath the surface of the range-topping Elite SE version.
First up, it is easy to agree the Tiggo 4 Pro looks the part, even though some aspects of the exterior seem derivative of models from other brands. It attracted double-takes aplenty, with passersby often curious to know. A prominent hexagonal grille with shiny pins takes focus at the front, flanked by angular headlamps and underlined by a sturdy lower scuff plate, it gives the vehicle a formidable gaze. In high-grade Elite SE trim, it benefits from red detailing and 17-inch alloy wheels with a darkened finish. The rear is equally interesting, with lighting that incorporates a 3D design, as well as dual tailpipes in chrome.
Your expectations of interior design and execution are likely to be exceeded. Upon opening the driver door, one is greeted by a welcome chime that sounds like glass crystals hitting the floor. Some commented the ambience has the look of certain Audi products. To an extent, fit and finish relays a premium air. But there are shortcomings. The switchgear on the steering wheel felt flimsy, with buttons that rocked in their housings. Our vehicle had an instrument cluster that developed a rattle.
Said cluster is of a digital variety, seven inches in diameter, with displays including individual tyre pressures. A centrally-mounted 10.25-inch infotainment system features Android Auto and Apple Car play compatibility. The system worked fairly well. Some language quirks were noted, in addition to a reverse camera with a notably grainy display.
These are among the minor idiosyncrasies which create the view that Chery, while having elevated its stock considerably since the old Tiggo, has room to grow before it achieves parity with established players. Or even its fellow Chinese marque Haval, for that matter.
Ride quality proved especially disappointing, firm and brittle, despite the reasonable ground clearance of 180mm and 60mm tyre profile. At freeway speeds vibrations were noticed through the pedals. This was at odds with the impressions we had during our first Tiggo 4 Pro drive last year — which, admittedly, was on a surface far more predictable than those of Johannesburg roads.
The coarseness of the 1.5-litre, turbocharged-petrol motor did not create favourable sentiments either. This four-cylinder unit feels strained under acceleration and is poorly complemented by the continuously-variable transmission (CVT) with nine simulated ratios. Output is quoted at 108kW and 210Nm, which feels somewhat less in reality. Moreover, it is what you would describe as thirsty. Our average consumption after a mix of urban and freeway driving was 11.8l/100km.
On the safety front, it caters with airbags (six), anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and electronic stability programme as well as traction control. It earned a five-star rating when it was crash tested by C-NCAP in 2015.
The Elite SE comes in at R359,900 and boasts a sunroof, electric seat adjustment (driver), LED headlights, leatherette upholstery, voice control, cruise control and dual-zone climate control.
At R269,900 you can get into the Urban model, powered by a normally-aspirated version of the same 1.5-litre, four less airbags, halogen lights, no sunroof and fabric upholstery. It also features the 10.25-inch infotainment system.
Between these two prices, your list of potential vehicles would include alternatives such as the Haval Jolion (from R309,900), Volkswagen T-Cross (from R365,100), Kia Sonet (from R285,995) and Hyundai Venue (from R262,500).

Driven: Chery Tiggo 4 Pro 1.5T Elite auto
Johannesburg – The second-coming of Chery to the South African new-car market sees its first new-generation model launched to a chorus of approval for both the quality of the new Tiggo 4 Pro compact SUV and a pricing structure that will grab your attention. The official reveal at the Sandton Convention Centre this Wednesday was preceded by a drive for select media members to the Hartbeespoort Dam area. This first jaunt on real roads (we sampled the new Tiggo 4 Pro at the Gerotek testing facility a few weeks back) confirmed that, astoundingly, Chery have a car that can realistically compete against the top offerings in this segment.
The cheap and dynamically indifferent offerings from Chery when it first entered the market here over a decade ago are consigned firmly to the memory banks by the new Tiggo. By any standards this is a good-looking car. And after spending a couple of hours behind the wheel on a variety of tar road surfaces and in traffic, the feeling is one of surprise at just how enjoyable this new Chinese model is.
The launch drive was actually the third time I had been exposed to the car. The first occasion was at a static viewing on the East Rand a few months back, and this was followed by a brief sampling at Gerotek. Enclosed test track facilities are all well and good, but nothing beats driving a car in a real-world environment, especially on familiar roads.
Appearance-wise, it has to be said that Chery, China’s largest exporter of motor vehicles, has pretty much nailed it with the Tiggo 4. There is none of the chintzy, add-on glitz that affects some vehicles from relative newcomers to the world of serious motor manufacturing.
The Tiggo 4 Pro is very striking, thanks to its bold hexagonal grille with a restrained diamond pattern, and light clusters that give the car a modern but retsrained look. The rest of the car has a chunky, solid appearance, punctuated by muscular flanks and stylish rear light clusters, and, in the case of the model we sampled, very attractive17-inch alloy wheels finished in gloss black and shod with substantial 225/60 R17 rubber. The media launch saw us only exposed to the top model in the range, this being a turbocharged 1,5-litre petrol model, fitted with a CVT with nine “steps” to simulate conventional gear ratios.
The Tiggo 4 pro range consists of five models and these are as follows: The entry-level 1.6 Urban 5-speed manual at R269 900, the 1.5 Comfort 9-speed CVT at R299 900, the 1.5 T Elite 6-speed manual at R319 900, the 1.5 T Elite Auto at R349 900 and the 1.5 T Elite SE at R359 900.
The naturally-aspirated 1.5 models employ a four-cylinder petrol engine producing 83 kW and 138 Nm of torque, and these are available with a five-speed manual gearbox or a 9-speed CVT. The turbocharged 1,5-litre petrol models enjoy an output of 108 kW and 210 Nm of torque, and these come with a 6-speed manual gearbox in the Elite version or a 9-speed CVT in the Elite and Elite SE models. All the Tiggo 4 Pros are front-wheel-drive models.
Climbing aboard the SE Elite model one is struck by the array of soft-touch finishes in what is a very well-laid-out interior. I particularly like the way Chery has integrated the 10,25-inch touch screen into the dashboard, so that it doesn’t have the feeling of being simply plonked on as an afterthought. Tellingly, this screen is also fitted to the entry-level models. The Elite models, however, get a larger digital display cluster ahead of the driver. Mobile phone compatibility is a feature on all the Tiggo 4 Pro models, but on the Elite SE we were impressed with the voce command system that boasts a wide range of functions. Opening and closing windows, adjusting climate control temperature, fan-speed, sun roof and audio controls are all part of the voice-command package. What’s more, by simply activating the command button and saying ” Hi Chery”, the response you get from the digital voice and subsequent action is more reliable than many other systems we have experienced on much more expensive European-designed cars!
Leather upholstery is a feature on both Elite models, but the SE has red contrasting stitching that complements the red detailing to be found on the exterior of the flagship model, on the side skirts, and above the front and rear skid plates. It would have been all-too easy for Chery to go the garish route on this sort of endeavour, and it is to the Chinese company’s credit that the red detailing seems to work aesthetically on the whole range of colours on offer.
So, the big question we needed answering this week on the first pucker launch drive was how does the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro behave in traffic, on quiet back roads, on the freeway?
The answer is, quite impressively. For a car weighing over 1 300 kg, the 108 kW engine gets things underway with a fair amount of zest, thanks in part to the nine-steps in the CVT transmssion that keeps revs well above the 5 000 rpm mark when you mash the accelerator pedal. A slight lift on the pedal sees the CVT cone-and-belt device react quickly to this signal of intent and “up-shifts” quite smartly, dropping the revs accordingly. It was only on one long uphill on the N14 freeway that I experienced a touch of the drawn-out droning that seems to be part and parcel of any CVT-equipped car, but a quick lift on the throttle, and then a re-application of power, saw the transmission “step” drop the revs quite smartly and restore audial well-being in the cab,
The ride quality on this Tiggo 4 Pro is impressive. It handles poor tarmac surfaces extremely well, and deals with big bumps and dips admirably, with commendable wheel-movement control. It was only on one back-road near Hartbeespoort that I noted some slight jiggling over a rippled surface, but not having any comparable rival model to measure this by, I would say that the fault here was more with a road surface that had been badly ripped by heavy trucks, a feature of roads in the Hartbeespoort area.
The steering initially feels very overpowered at parking speeds, but this tightens up nicely on the move, and I found it very easy to place the Tiggo 4 accurately on the road. The steering wheel, squared off at the lower edge, loads up nicely in corners to give a good sense of communication bwteen the front wheels and the tar.
Build-quality-wise, overall I was impressed with the Tiggo4 Pro. Only once did we experience a slight rattle in the dashboard in the infotainment screen area, but this was not something that reared its head again. Overall, the feeling in the cabin is one of very good quality and very usable space. With the seat ajjusted for my 1,83 metre frame, there was still plenty of leg room for rear seat passengers. And as for the boot, it appears quite generously sized, although Chery have not yet supplied any dimensions for the boot in its specifications.
Fuel consumption on the Tiggo 4 Pro Elite models should vary between 7,5 litres/100 and 10,5 litres/100 km, depending on how you drive it. Media launch drives tend to be of the brisk variety, and canvassing other media colleagues, these are the kind of figures we can report on for now. Chery have not yet released any official performance or fuel consumption figures for the Tiggo 4 Pro, but we can confirm that in the turbo model it is all too easy to cruise at speeds of well above the national limit.
The other big news at the launch was the announcement of a 10-year/ 1-million km warranty on the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro’s engine, Apparently this applies only to the original purchaser of the car, and is also subject to various servicing criteria. But it certainly indicates Chery’s confidence in its engineering acumen. More realistically, however, Chery South Africa offers a 5-year/150 000 km warranty and a 5-year/60 000 km service plan as part of the purchase price.

A charming surprise from the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro
- Anton Willemse Jnr
It is no secret that the compact cross-over segment is a fast-growing segment within South Africa. As such it came as no surprise that fast-growing Chinese brand, Chery, decided to use this segment as its relaunch platform in the South African market when it introduced the Tiggo 4 Pro towards the end of last year.
Now, the Chery brand doesn’t have the best rap sheet in the South African market. You might remember this brand for their uninspiring vehicles such as the original Tiggo and the Chery QQ, which were slated for its general lack of quality and refinement as well as reports of poor after sales support due to a very small dealership footprint. However, the Chery vehicles making its way under the “new and improved” brand promise in South Africa is a massive step up.
First impressions
We recently spent some time with all-new and fresh Chery Tiggo 4 Pro and off the bat this was a massive improvement from what I’d expected from the Chinese brand. It is, in fact, a rather good (and affordable) option in the growing cross-over segment. Embracing the SUV-feel, the Tiggo 4 Pro’s design is modern, riding on 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels (depending on the model you choose) it boasts an impressive 180mm ground clearance. It has a bold and aggressive grille with subtle chrome diamond detailing as well as LED daytime running, giving the newcomer a modern and unexpected high-end luxurious feel. The rear features modern touches like LED taillights, a roof spoiler and even a quirky little diffuser.
The Tiggo 4 Pro Elite SE (yes, you guessed it – Special Edition, hence the larger alloys at 18-inch alloys, giving it a tad more oomph) I sampled possesses some premium exterior touches to distinguish it from its more budget counter parts. I particularly liked the head-turning red detailing on the front skid plate as well as the side cladding and red brake callipers. The sporty red is continued in the interior with some contrast stitching as well as “Tiggo” decals in the driver and passenger door wells. When you open the door at night you’re greeted with puddle lamps projecting “Tiggo” logos.
Moving inside, the Tiggo 4 Pro’s cabin is inviting and surprisingly sophisticated. The Elite SE variant boasts leather seats, as well as ample leather accents throughout, seamlessly blending with the chrome elements. Add to this the fair amount of standard tech and other features – including a digital cluster with a 7-inch screen for the diver and an impressive 10-inch infotainment system – and you find yourself wondering how they kept the costs down.
Connectivity is the name of the game and (as with most of the players in this segment) the infotainment is Andriod Auto and AppleCarplay compatible and you get two USB ports in the front and one in the back. Additionally, the infotainment system also has a clever voice-control system which is probably the first one in the history of the South African motoring that had no problem interpreting my Afrikaans accent. The higher end models have dual-zone climate control to help combat the brutal South African climate, while the lower end models have manual aircon and a sunroof as standard features.
Now onto the all-important question: how is the Tiggo 4 Pro’s performance and handling? The Elite SE derivative is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo, while the lower spec options have a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine. Many of my fellow motor scribes have been singing the 1.5 turbo’s praises and I have to concur: it’s not a bad engine. It is super nippy around town thanks to a power output of 108kW of power and 210 Nm of torque (the naturally aspirated version offers 83kW and 138Nm), mated to a CVT-box. And low and behold – in the Chery’s case, the CVT is one of the positives.
Normally when I test a vehicle, I am immediately annoyed when I see it it’s a CVT as I find the rubber band effect, the struggle of getting off the line and the terrible tendency of over- or under revving quite frustrating. The Tiggo 4Pro’s CVT, however, didn’t have any of those issues and I was genuinely surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I will even go as far to say that it feels like a conventional automatic gearbox. On the flipside, the powertrain was disappointing – or rather, confusing. At times, it felt a bit too eager. I found the acceleration completely out of sync – a bit like an on/off switch where, if moves past a certain speed, the car just catapulted as if something was chasing it. So it was either Driving Miss Daisy at 70km/hour or driving it like you stole it at 120km/hour! The other issue with the powertrain was its inefficiency – I struggled to keep it under 10 litres/100km, whereas other players in this segment easily settles around 7 to 8 litres/100km.
In terms handling the Tiggo 4Pro is fine. Like a lot of other cross-overs it does suffer a bit from body roll and on rough roads the ride can get a bit harsh due to insufficient damping, but I have experienced worse in some better known brands. While the Tiggo 4 Pro does feel a tad nervous and jittery on the open road at higher speeds, we never felt unsafe, thanks to standard safety feature across the range. These include, amongst others, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, roll stability control as well as hill descent control and hill assist.
The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro finds itself in a highly competitive segment flooded with a lot great and not-so-great options. So, where does this new Chinese player fit into this segment? First off, looks sell and the Tiggo 4 Pro is quite the sexy little thing! Add to this the premium finishes and extras and it feels much more high-end than most of the competitors which underlines it’s value-for-money appeal. However, don’t expect anything special performance wise. The punchy 1.5-litre turbo pairs well with the CVT gear box and, as mentioned, it feels a lot more like a traditional automatic. However, the accelerator does feel a bit sensitive and inconsistent, and the fuel consumption is really shocking.
To conclude, the Tiggo Pro 4 certainly elevates the Chery brand to give it a whole lot more credibility in our market and this newcomer should definitely be on your shopping list if you’re looking for a cute, yet capable cross-over. In the past, Chery’s main problem was sub-par products with nearly zero after sales support – however, today they have 50 dealerships nation-wide and offers a comprehensive warranty and service support. Things are looking up for this new player on the block and I think the Tiggo Pro 4 was the perfect start to their resurgence back into the South African market.

KRUGER CHRONICLES-Shingwedzi Rest Camp
It is unclear where the name Shingwedzi comes from, but the local people believe it is named after Tsonga people who used to live in the area. Shingwedzi is believed to be a combination of ‘Shing-za-goli’ (the name of the leader in the group) and ‘Njwetse’, which describes the sound you hear when iron is rubbed together.

- Motoring Launches
Been driving the all new Chery Tiggo4 which is competing in the hotly contested compact SUV segment, and it brings with it a winning combination of style, luxury, and performance. This SUV has literally set the cat amongst the pigeons, and in terms of value proposition, it cannot be faulted.
This company is back with a bang, and has a number of launches planned for 2022, over various segments, but the recently launched Chery Tiggo 4 Pro now comes with a choice of two petrol engines, three transmissions and three different specification levels. A Special Edition tops the range and adds even more luxury to the standard Urban, Comfort and Elite models. These are launched at very good prices, and will fit many buyers pockets.
The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro is a good looking SUV, definitely a head turner. This model is the flag bearer of Chery’s new design language and proudly carries the Chery logo and large hexagonal grille with a unique diamond pattern. This grille makes it look bigger and bolder, to create a three-dimensional effect. Each individual diamond is fitted with chrome brightwork to give the Tiggo 4 Pro a distinct upmarket look and road presence.
Love the LED daytime running lights. The lights – halogen on normally aspirated models and LED on turbo models, which are contained in clear housings with a bright background dubbed the Chery Crystal Diamond lens design.
It comes with a well shaped bonnet with strong creases, and the flanks are also sculpted like an in-form athlete. Also like the roof rails, which add an air of sportiness.
A chrome strip and large Chery logo connect the rear lights that are fitted above a faux strike plate and dual chromed exhaust outlets. A high-level LED brake light bar, roof-mounted antenna fin and spoiler round off the rear design.
The Chery Tiggo Pro 4 will be fitted with alloy wheels across the range. We are driving the Elite model with 17 inch alloys. It has decent ground clearance at approx 180mm, and can do some off-road driving.
First thing about the cabin that impresses you, is the space, it has it in spades, in the front, rear and boot, for a compact SUV, very good. The second thing is the premium materials used, there is some plastic of course, but lots of soft touch as well.
All Tiggo 4 Pro models have a digital instrument cluster with multi-information readout. On the normally aspirated models, this screen is 3.5” wide with high-definition colours.
The turbo models swop this digital cluster for one double its size. The 7” version not only increases the information real estate, but it offers more display and customisation options, including displaying more information from the mobile phone.
What doesn’t differentiate between any of the Tiggo 4 Pro models is the beautiful, fast and touch-responsive 10.25” central infotainment system. This system is equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports in the front and one in the rear, a DVD player and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity. This system also displays the image from the reverse camera on all but the entry-level Urban model.
Elite versions also have intelligent voice control built-in, with a special semantic processing system that understands many different accents and pronunciations.
Special Edition only.
The SE model has it’s own unique features, this is what we experienced:
The SE model adds red detailing on the exterior design. Coupled with both the standard and metallic colours, this red detailing above the front and rear skid plates on the side skirts and the brake callipers ensure that the Tiggo 4 Pro SE stands out from even its siblings.
Inside the cabin, Chery has repeated the red detailing in the contrasting stitching, the door handles and the lower section of the dashboard. Discreet, adjustable, and multi-colour LED lighting inside the cabin is also added as standard to this model.
Rounding off the SE package are puddle lights in the side mirrors and special threshold welcome lights for the driver and front passenger.
As stated before the models come with two engine derivatives.
The Urban and Comfort specification grades offer the normally aspirated 1.5 litre engine, with 83 kW at 6 150 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4 000 rpm. In the case of the Urban grade, the power is delivered to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The Comfort model is fitted with Chery’s smooth, continuously variable transmission with self-shift option for manual override mode.
We drove the SE model grade with the CVT transmission. These models also replace the normally aspirated four-cylinder for a powerful 1.5 turbo-petrol engine.
The Chery 1.5T turbo delivers 108 kW at 5 500 rpm and a maximum torque of 210 in a wide engine speed band between 1 750 rpm and 4 000 rpm. You can use both Standard, Eco or Sport modes, personally I preferred std. This engine is incredibly zippy around town, did seem to use quite a bit of fuel though, almost 9L/100km.
Adding to the Tiggo 4’s pedigree are ABS and Electronic Brake Force equipped disk brakes all round with an electronic parking brake, as well as a full complement of electronic vehicle safety systems. These include Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Traction Control (TCS), Roll Stability Control (RCS), Hill Descent Control (HDC) and Hill Assist. All these features are standard across the range.
All models also offer keyless access and a Start / Stop button. The Tiggo 4 Pro will lock and unlock automatically as you approach or leave the vehicle, and doors will lock automatically as you drive away. Very handy this, and don’t think you can walk away with leaving the engine running, it gets very grumpy, and lets you know you can’t..
Elite models are further equipped with front side and curtain airbags for a total of six. These models also have a tyre pressure monitoring system for additional dynamic safety.
To add additional peace of mind to customers who opt for one of the modern and stylish Tiggo 4 Pro models, Chery has announced an unmatched 10-year / 1-million-kilometre engine warranty (see separate release). This caused quite a bit of mirth.
All Chery Tiggo 4 Pro models are also sold with a 5 year / 60 000 km service plan as standard.

2024 Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max: Australian specs confirmed for new seven-seat family SUV rival for Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan X-Trail and Honda CR-V
- Chery Tiggo 7 Pro
- Chery SUV Range
From a standing start less than 12 months ago, challenger brand Chery has steadily built its local presence from the original Omoda 5 small SUV, through the mid-size Tiggo 7 Pro SUV, and most recently, confirmation the three-row Tiggo 8 Pro Max will join the Chinese maker’s Australian line-up in May this year.
Now we have specification details for the three-model Tiggo 8 Pro Max range across the front-wheel-drive Urban and Elite grades, as well as the flagship all-wheel-drive Ultimate.
All are powered by the same (180kW/375Nm) 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine , matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch auto transmission, but the standard features list grows as you walk up the range.

The entry-level Urban features dual 12.3-inch (instrument and multimedia) screens , ambient lighting, an air purifying system as well as heated and ventilated seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, in-built nav, synthetic leather trim , eight-speaker Sony audio, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto , ‘Hello Chery’ voice command, wireless charging, a 360-degree view camera , ambient interior lighting plus LED headlights and tail-lights.
Chery says standard safety tech includes “18 advanced driver assistance systems”, including adaptive cruise control , AEB and lane-keeping assist as well as front, front side & centre, rear side, driver knee and side curtain airbags.
Then, the Elite adds a power tailgate, heated exterior mirrors, a built-in dashcam, third-row air vents (with fan speed control), illuminated door door sills and a retractable cargo blind.
Move up to the AWD Ultimate and you’ll be rolling on 19-inch alloy rims and picking up a ‘Fragrance System’, puddle lamps, a panoramic sunroof, 10-speaker Sony sound and privacy glass.
Warranty cover is top-shelf at seven years, unlimited kilometres with seven-year capped-price servicing and up to seven years roadside assistance on offer.
Eight colours run to ‘Lunar White’, ‘Star Silver’, ‘Rhine Blue’, ‘Loran Violet’, ‘Mercurial Grey’, ‘Technical Grey’, ‘Aurora Green’ and ‘Space Black’.
And cargo space measures up well with 117 litres (VDA) available with all seats upright and 479 litres with the third row folded (measured to the top of the second row seatbacks).
The only missing piece of the Tiggo 8 Pro Max puzzle is pricing, which Chery Australia says “will be released closer to launch”.
If the Tiggo 8’s close sibling, the five-seat Tiggo 7 is any indication cost-of-entry will be competitive, likely undercutting potential competitors like seven-seat versions of the Mitsubishi Outlander (from $39,540), Nissan X-Trail (from $40,290) and Honda CR-V (from $46,800 drive-away).

C hery has unveiled more details about its upcoming mid-sized SUV, the 2024 Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max, set to hit the Australian market in May.
Designed to rival popular models like the Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan X-Trail, the Tiggo 8 Pro Max promises to offer a compelling package with three rows of seating, a powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, and an extensive list of standard features.
The Tiggo 8 Pro Max will be available in three variants: two with front-wheel drive and one with all-wheel drive. While pricing is yet to be announced, Chery has provided a comprehensive breakdown of the features offered across the lineup.
Starting with the base Urban variant, buyers can expect a range of upscale features, including 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and tail lights, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Other highlights include satellite navigation, a wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, and an air quality management system. The Urban variant also comes equipped with an 8-speaker Sony sound system, heated and ventilated front seats, and a selection of driving modes.
Moving up to the Elite trim adds additional amenities such as a power tailgate, heated exterior mirrors, a built-in dashcam, and third-row air vents with fan speed control. Illuminated door sills with Tiggo lettering and a retractable cargo blind further enhance the upscale feel of the Elite variant.
At the top of the range, the Ultimate AWD variant offers all-wheel drive capability along with a host of premium features, including 19-inch alloy wheels, a fragrance system, puddle lamps, and a panoramic sunroof. The Ultimate AWD also comes equipped with a 10-speaker Sony sound system and privacy glass.
In terms of safety, the Tiggo 8 Pro Max is expected to offer a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and lane-keep assist.
The vehicle will also feature a range of airbags, including front, front-side, front-centre, driver’s knee, rear-side, and side curtain airbags, along with a surround-view camera. Powering all variants of the Tiggo 8 Pro Max is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 180kW of power and 375Nm of torque.
This engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, delivering a blend of performance and efficiency.
With its spacious interior, robust feature set, and powerful engine, the 2024 Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max aims to make a strong impression in the competitive mid-sized SUV segment. Backed by a comprehensive warranty and roadside assistance package, it promises to offer peace of mind to Australian buyers.
