Bleachers is an American indie pop act based in New York City formed in 2014 by Fun guitarist Jack Antonoff.

Jack Antonoff, the talented singer/songwriter and guitarist found fame with pop group Fun and is credited as a co-writer of one of the band's most successful singles 'We Are Young'. He has also written music for pop heavyweights including Taylor Swift and Christina Perri. Whilst on the road with Fun, Antonoff found an outlet for his creative urges whilst travelling from city to city in Bleachers. His side project remained unknown until February 2014 when he released the single 'I Wanna Get Better'.

It received moderate chart success due to the singer's credibilities and notoriety as an artist formerly associated with Fun. Critics enjoyed the shimmering layer of pop gloss that had been applied to this release and the album 'Strange Desire' which came in the summer continued to accumulate accolades. It was released through RCA records and was met with chart success, debuting at #11 on the US Billboard Charts and #19 on the Canadian album charts.

The guitarist has been touring the US tirelessly throughout 2014 to promote the album's release, including at stop off at Austin City Limits. Despite the success and time that Antonoff has invested into this project, he has made it clear this is not a departure from Fun and he still remains committed to the band.

Live reviews

Although Bleachers only recently found their way into the public eye, their infectious melodies and truly impressive live show are tempting music fans of all generations to don the sweatbands and leg warmers characteristic of the iconic time the band represents: a near revival of sorts. At the helm is fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff: deer-in-the-headlights turned rockstar, whose 80s hipster persona and unusual presence lend themselves to the palpable happiness felt by everyone in attendance. The real highlights of any Bleachers show, however, are the live renditions of “I Wanna Get Better,” “Rollercoaster,” “Shadow,” and other crowd favorites, which feature melodies that are simply begging to be shouted without any regard for auditory well-being.

Bleachers is unique among its counterparts in that it boasts two drummers that, when paired with the band’s signature synthesized pop rhythms, create a fuller sound and more intense live experience. Each blistering guitar solo leaves Antonoff in some transient state of bliss achievable only through true musicianship, and the performance is truly captivating. Within minutes, Jack’s taken off his first layer of clothing, sweat is flying, and he’s replaced his initial reserved demeanor with one of confidence and passion.

For those on the fence about attending a Bleachers show, it is important to note that all aspects of it — the lights, the energy, the nostalgia-inducing sing-a-longs — are contagious and will undoubtedly leave you in that lovely state of post-concert haziness for weeks to come.

Seeing Bleachers in concert was a down-right euphoric experience. I stumbled upon their music in the fall of 2017, and I really liked their sound -- energetic, upbeat, tinged with melancholy, but ultimately optimistic -- it suited me. I generally connect more with indie folk, so I didn't put Bleachers in my listening rotation. Still, I was excited when I saw they were coming to my hometown, because had a feeling that their music would lend itself well to live performance.

Holy crap, was I ever right! The band had a ton of energy and seemed like they were having a hell of a good time. And so was the crowd -- everyone around me was singing and shouting the lyrics and dancing and jumping around -- it was impossible not to get swept up. Lead-singer Jack Antonoff was very personable with the audience, and I was especially touched when he talked about his relationship with music, how it connects people. It may not have been the most original speech, but he seemed genuine, and, yeah, I could relate (looks like I have a new fan-crush!). I definitely feel more of a personal connection to Bleachers' music now!

I've been going through some stuff recently, but this concert filled me with joy. It was, without a doubt, the best concert I've ever been to.

I've been to a number of concerts before, but that was honestly one of the best I've ever been to. With such a small venue, we were three people from the front and the up close experience was amazing. Royal Tongues was fantastic(!), the first time I've ever truly loved an opening act. The looong wait between the two bands was a bit rough, but it paid off with the show that Bleachers put on. For only 99 cents a ticket, this must have been one of the greatest concert values in history for what we got. With such an electric environment,I am so pumped to get back to Higher Ground for the Odesza concert in March!

The opening act was awesome and got the crowd involved and pumped for the Bleachers. As soon as the lights went out, the crowd went nuts. They knew what was about to happen. They were about to experience one of the best bands around. From the moment they stepped on stage to the second they stepped off, the Bleachers were nothing but perfection. They interacted with the crowd so much and played the perfect set list. They even came back on stage for two more songs! They were absolutely phenomenal and I hope to see them again and meet them the next time they come back here. Hawaii loves you Bleachers!

I saw the Bleachers @ the Crystal Ballroom which was amazing because we were able to get super close to the stage (one or two people away). I loved their energy & you could really see their passion in their performance. The crowd loved them and almost pulled Jack Antonoff into a crowd surf. However the openers, Miss and Bob Moses didn't really pump up the crowd and there were awkward transitions between acts.

Absolutely the best concert I’ve ever been to. They were amazing live and performed a new song as well as all my favorites, even some off of old albums. The freestyle they did was also incredible. I for sure will be seeing them again as soon as they come anywhere near me. The only issue I had was how short it was (which isn’t their fault because it could never be long enough).

sierrawise97’s profile image

As always Jack and his supporting cast put on a great show. They bring great energy and good vibes. Jack makes the crowd feel accepted and his effort to make the people who come to his shows feel appreciated. I love how the band will have a mini jam sesh where Jack and Evan go back and forth trying to one up each other. Overall great experience and an awesome show!

jarom-nelson’s profile image

Unbelievable! They had insane amounts of energy, and the venue was surprisingly good! The crowd got so into the music, in big part due to their humor, their attempts to engage the crowd, and the amount of fun they looked like they were having up there. Easy to say I have to see them every time they come to town now!

I saw Bleachers I think 2 years ago in Boston and they impressed me. They put on a very fun, interactive show. They played all of their songs and their cover selection was spot on. This show was no different, amazing from beginning to end. My wife loved them so much, we hope to see them up in Portland again!

Due to phenomenal demand, Bleachers’ forthcoming 2024 UK tour sold out in minutes this morning.

After adding an additional date at London’s O2 Kentish Town Forum and upgrading the venue in Glasgow to Barrowland Ballroom, all the tickets for the UK leg of the ‘From The Studio To The Stage’ tour were snapped up immediately by fans eager to see the band play their first run of shows in support of their highly anticipated new album ‘Bleachers’.

‘Bleachers’, the band’s fourth studio album, is released Friday 8th March via Dirty Hit and features recent singles ‘Modern Girl’ and ‘Alma Mater. You can pre-order ‘Bleachers’ now at bleachersmusic.com .

Bleachers' 2024 UK Tour

There’s a rich depth to the band’s sound on ‘Bleachers’: it is laid out in bright, soulful technicolour. The album is frontman Antonoff’s distinctly New Jersey take on the bizarre sensory contradictions of modern life, on his position in culture, and on the things he cares about. Sonically, it’s sad, it’s joyful, it’s music for driving on the highway to, for crying to and for dancing to at weddings. There’s something reassuringly touchable and concrete about its sentiment: exist in crazy times but remember what counts.

Described as “anthemic, life affirming pop rock” by the New York Times, Bleachers are fronted by globally celebrated, eight-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, musician, and producer, Jack Antonoff. Releasing their debut album ‘Strange Desire’ in 2014, the band have built a huge, passionate following across three studio albums, becoming renowned for their impressive live show and infectious camaraderie. The band’s last album, ‘Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night’ took them to new heights, showcasing Antonoff’s immersive songwriting and, as Variety testified, his innate skill at “supersizing personal stories into larger-than-life pop anthems”.

Both with Bleachers and as a songwriter and producer, Antonoff, who, in 2021, was credited by the BBC for having “redefined pop music”, has collaborated with the likes of Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, The 1975, Diana Ross, Lorde, St. Vincent, Florence + The Machine, Kevin Abstract and many more.

Bleachers Will Go ‘From the Studio to the Stage’ on 2024 Tour

  • By Tomás Mier

Bleachers is ready to tour their self-titled album in the new year. On Tuesday, the Jack Antonoff-fronted band announced that it will be heading on the From the Studio to the Stage tour in the new year.

“Just wait till you see this shit,” Antonoff teased in a press release about the tour.

The group will kick off the U.S. leg of the tour in Salt Lake City before stopping in cities such as Omaha, Kansas City, Nashville, Dallas, Boston, and Pittsburgh. Absent from the run of shows are gigs in California. (Are Bleachers performing at Coachella?)

Samia will join the group on the road as an opener for all shows, except the closing stop in Ashbury Park in New Jersey, which will serve as a new iteration of Bleachers’ Shadow of the City festival.

“We know there’s lots of issues and confusion when buying tickets to shows. want to ensure you we’ve done and will always do everything in our power to make this process as clean and transparent as possible for you all,” Antonoff said, adding, “The ticket price you see is the ticket price you pay.”

“This tour means the world to me and I want to make sure everyone gets in the door feeling right,” he added. “Also keep me posted if you encounter anything weird because I wanna know what you guys deal with and be able to take it right to the top of these companies and do my best to make it easier for Bleachers fans and everyone.”

Fans can sign up for presale registration now to access a presale on Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. local time before tickets go on sale for the general public on Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. local time. A dollar from each ticket sold will go toward the Ally Coalition, Antonoff’s charity focused on queer youth.

Jack Antonoff, second right, fronts Bleachers on Late Night with Seth Meyers July 2021.

Bleachers: Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night review – Jack Antonoff goes back to his roots

(RCA) The super producer’s complex musical identity finds full expression on this highly personal third Bleachers album

N ew Jersey native Jack Antonoff is best known as the affable super producer who has played midwife to works by Taylor Swift , Lana Del Rey and Lorde . Big on tunes, Antonoff’s aesthetic nonetheless embodies intriguing contradictions: a pop maximalist, he’s also a guitar kid at heart, balancing look-at-me jazz hands with downplayed vocals and atmospheric fuzz. Back in 2014, Bleachers ’ debut was full of nods to Bruce Springsteen . In 2020, the man himself turned up on backing vocals on the none-more-Boss track Chinatown .

So many American acts have played Boss moves in recent years – the Killers, the War on Drugs – but this Bleachers album feels like it’s about showing someone where Antonoff grew up in Jersey; at least a third of it is powered by joyous E Street Band poses, its anthemics pleasantly furred up by vulnerability. It all feels highly personal, with Antonoff still channelling underdog status on songs such as How Dare You Want More . There’s plenty of filigree too: string arrangements by Annie “St Vincent” Clark, input from Warren Ellis and a writing credit for Zadie Smith.

The post Bleachers Announce New Album, Share Lana Del Rey Collab “Alma Mater”: Stream appeared first on Consequence .

Bleachers have announced their upcoming fourth studio album, Bleachers , out March 8th via Dirty Hit. As the latest preview, Jack Antonoff ’s band has shared the new single, “Alma Mater,” featuring vocals from his frequent collaborator Lana Del Rey .

Spanning 14 tracks,  Bleachers is described in a press release as “Antonoff’s distinctly New Jersey take on the bizarre sensory contradictions of modern life, on his position in culture, and on the things he cares about.” It’s also said to be the perfect music for “driving on the highway to, for crying to, and for dancing to at weddings.”

Indeed, “Alma Mater” features Antonoff’s signature ’80s sound and nostalgic lyrics, with Del Rey providing backing vocals for lines like, “Well, summer’s gettin’ hotter/ Threw her T-shirt down the pike/ Screamin’, ‘Fuck Balenciaga’/ Right past the Wawa.” Stream the track below.

Bleachers have a few festival dates remaining in 2023 and just announced a UK tour for 2024 featuring shows in London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Glasgow. See the itinerary below.

“Alma Mater” was preceded by “Modern Girl,” which marked Bleachers’ first new music since 2021’s  Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night when it was released in September.

Of course, Antonoff has stayed incredibly busy since then as one of the most in-demand producers in pop music. Just last year, he worked on Taylor Swift’s  Midnights ,  The 1975’s  Being Funny in a Foreign Language ,  and Del Rey’s own Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd .

17.) “I Wanna Get Better”

18.) “Don’t Take the Money”

On Friday, March 8, Bleachers dropped their fourth studio album “Bleachers.”

The 14-track record is a joyous 48-minute romp that hops from Springsteen-esque rock — see “I Am Right On Time” and “Modern Girl” — to more muted indie bops like “Jesus Is Dead,” “Me Before You” and the gorgeous “Alma Mater.”

Complete with hook-y singalong choruses, extended sax solos and thrilling mid-track crescendos, “Bleachers” is a triumph and easily one of the best releases of 2024, thus far. The record pulls off the hardest trick in music by making self-indulgence sound fresh yet urgent.

Don’t count this one out.

You can listen to “Bleachers” here .

On select dates, Bleachers will be joined by 27-year-old singer-songwriter Samia.

For those not familiar with her catalog, we recommend starting with the lush “Honey,” dreamy “Big Wheel” and her fuzzed-out pop bop “Triptych.”

You can find Samia’s complete discography here .

Yes, Antonoff’s pal Taylor Swift is also on the road this year.

However, if you’re a fan of Bleachers’ sound, we think you’ll like these five artists who are on tour, too.

•  Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

•  Maggie Rogers

• Noah Kahan

• Vampire Weekend

Gabriel Martinelli expected to miss Arsenal vs Porto through injury

Gabriel Martinelli expected to miss Arsenal vs Porto through injury

Gabriel Martinelli is expected to miss Arsenal ’s Champions League game against Porto on Tuesday due to a foot injury.

The 22-year-old sustained the problem during Arsenal’s 6-0 win over Sheffield United on March 4 and was helped off the field by two members of Arsenal medical staff as he struggled to walk by himself, following a challenge in the 64th minute.

Martinelli was absent from training on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s last-16 tie but speaking ahead of the tie Mikel Arteta refused to rule him out completely.

“Not many (team news) updates,” Arteta said. “We still have 24 hours and we are trying to have everyone fit and available. ( Takehiro Tomiyasu ) did the first part (of training) and Martinelli didn’t.”

The forward missed Saturday’s 2-1 win over Brentford , despite Arteta saying he was “pretty positive” he would be available for the match, and was later seen on crutches at the Emirates Stadium.

“We had Martinelli and Bukayo (Saka) with little issues,” Arteta said before the game. “We’re pretty positive that hopefully they can be part of that. But we’ll have to see how they feel.”

Arsenal face Porto at the Emirates in their crucial Champions League last-16 second leg. Arteta’s side lost the first leg 1-0 in Portugal last month.

Martinelli was selected by Brazil head coach Dorival Junior in last week’s squad for their friendlies against England and Spain later this month.

He has registered eight goals and five assists in 32 appearances for Arsenal this season.
