Built by Kakatiyas in 13th century, this is the largest lake in Warangal district. It still provides irrigation water for over 50,000 acres of land. The magnificent lake is surrounded by thick forests of Eturnagaram Sanctuary. The suspension bridge across the lake is a special attraction. Laknavaram is one of the best places to visit around Warangal and it's a perfect getaway to spend time with family. Boating facility is available in the lake on speed boats and motor boats. To reach this place from Warangal, take Etunagaram highway, go straight past Mulug and Jangalapally (left turn here takes to Ramappa Temple - 11 Kms). After 11 Kms past Jangalapally on the highway (about 1.5 before Chalwai), take right turn go straight for 7 Kms and reach the destination. The narrow route between the highway and Laknavaram lake runs through dense forest and steep curves. Visitors are advised to be careful while driving on this route. The story of Laknavaram Lake goes back to the Kakatiya reign in the history. Also known by the name of Laknavaram Cheruvu, this beautiful lake lying amid flourishing hills was first discovered by the Kakatiya rulers. It was then that the rulers of Kakatiya reign built a small sluice gate and thanks to that, it transformed into a vast lake that now is able to serve as a water reservoir. You should also know that till date Laknavaram Lake serves as a source of irrational water for an area as vast as around 3,500 acres of land which accommodates approximately six nearby villages. This gorgeous lake has the capacity to hold around 2.135 tmc ft. of water.

Although this tourist place in Telangana can be visited anytime throughout the year, but if you are looking forward to enjoy its glory when it is at its peak, then you must visit during either the monsoon or winter season. Opening Hours of Laknavaram:

The Laknavaram lake is open to visitors from right early in the morning till late evening hours, so you have a lot of time. The precise timings are from 8 AM till 5.30 PM.

Weekend Getaway – Laknavaram Lake

The green hills of Govindaraopet agency mandal lie side by side to form a massive bowl like structure which holds the spacious, beautiful and pristine lake popular known as ‘Laknavaram Cheruvu’.

The lake was the discovery of ancient Kakatiya rulers. They spotted this excellent place amidst trees and green hills lined up around to hold the rainwater. The Kakatiya rulers only built a small sluice gate turning the place into a spacious lake which now feeds thousands of acres of agricultural land every year.

There was a boat tied to one of the jetties, and it would have normally been made available to the general public. During our visit, the district collector was also scheduled to make a visit to the area, and the boat had been reserved for his use.

A sweet-water lake spread over 10,000 acres in the midst of green lush hills surrounded by thick forests
