  • Cruise owns a collection of airplanes, including a vintage P-51 Mustang fighter from World War II and a Gulfstream IV G4 jet.

It wasn't just a show for 'Top Gun.' Tom Cruise is one of the few actors who genuinely love aviation. He has been a licensed pilot since 1994 and is able to fly several types of aircraft. However, it doesn't stop with a license. The famous Hollywood actor also has a collection of airplanes varying from vintage fighters to business jets.

What kind of license does Cruise have?

In various discussions, Tom Cruise has revealed that his affinity for aviation was crucial to his initial attraction to the original 'Top Gun.' He shared that he holds qualifications as a multi-engine instrument-rated pilot and has continued to enhance his skill set throughout his life. Notably, he acquired helicopter flying skills for the remarkable stunts seen in the 2018 film 'Mission Impossible: Fallout.'

North American P-51 Mustang fighter

During a segment on The Late Late Show, Cruise took host James Corden for a ride in his own vintage P-51 Mustang fighter plane. Tom Cruise acquired this World War II fighter in 2001, which was initially built in 1946.

The P-51 Mustang was an American long-range fighter bomber that served alongside other conflicts during World War II and the Korean War. It was developed by North American Aviation and was retired in 1984. Nevertheless, even today, the fighter is utilized for air racing by civilian pilots. After being donated to an Illinois museum, the plane underwent restoration in 1997.

Gulfstream IV G4 jet

Screen Rant

Tom cruise flew his own p-51 mustang in top gun: maverick.

Tom Cruise shares a lot with his Top Gun: Maverick character, including owning the vintage P-51 WW2 fighter plane from the final scene of Top Gun 2.

  • Tom Cruise's flying sequences in Top Gun: Maverick add to the excitement of the long-awaited sequel, as he actually flew in the film.
  • The movie's ending, where Maverick and Rooster restore and fly a vintage P-51 Mustang, has a special meaning, as Cruise owns the same plane in real life.
  • Cruise's dedication to doing his own stunts, both in Top Gun: Maverick and in other movies like the Mission: Impossible series, showcases his commitment to realism and adds to his reputation as a Hollywood movie star.

Top Gun: Maverick 's flying sequences are part of what made the long-awaited sequel so exciting and that was further added to by the fact that Tom Cruise did fly in Top Gun 2 . The movie follows Maverick training a new group of young pilots which includes Miles Teller as Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, the son of Maverick's deceased best friend Nick "Goose" Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards). Their tense relationship leads to a touching ending that relates to a plane that Tom Cruise flies in real life as well as in Top Gun 2 .

After surviving the mission together and proving the value of actual skilled pilots in the cockpit rather than just drones, Maverick and Goose form a bond that is similar to the one he shared with Goose. In Top Gun: Maverick 's ending , Rooster helps restore Maverick's vintage P-51 Mustang, which Maverick then flies Penny (Jennifer Connelly) out in. It's a fitting way to end Top Gun: Maverick , but there is a detail that many would have missed that makes the Tom Cruise P-51 Mustang scene even better.

Tom Cruise Owns The Top Gun Maverick P-51

The original top gun inspired cruise's love of flying.

The P-51 Mustang plane that Maverick and Rooster work on in that final scene of Top Gun: Maverick is owned by Tom Cruise in real life. His passion for aviation was sparked while filming the original 1986 Top Gun movie and in 1994, Cruise became a licensed pilot .

The P-51 Mustang used in Top Gun: Maverick was built in 1946 and Cruise has owned the plane, which has an estimated value of $4 million, since 2001. Cruise originally branded the aircraft "Kiss Me Kate" after his ex-wife Katie Holmes, but he has since removed the name from the P-51 following their separation.

Top Gun Maverick's Tom Cruise P-51 Scene Was Real

The p-51 mustang is not the only plane cruise owns.

Although Cruise didn't fly the F-18 while shooting Top Gun: Maverick due to Navy restrictions, he was piloting in the P-51 Mustang during the scene in which Maverick flies with Penny. It's not surprising he was flying the plane, given how well-known Tom Cruise is for doing his own stunts . As well as the P-51 Mustang used in Top Gun: Maverick , Cruise owns two more aircraft.

His most luxurious is the Gulfstream IV jet valued at $20 million , which includes a Jacuzzi and a screening room, but it did not feature in Maverick . Tom Cruise and Captain "Maverick" Mitchell are both thrill-seeking daredevils, and the subtle inclusion of Cruise's own P-51 Mustang in Maverick 's ending made the link between the two even deeper.

Why The Navy Wouldn't Let Tom Cruise Fly Maverick's F-18

Cruise wanted limited cgi in top gun 2.

While known for doing most of his own stunts, the P-51 Mustang scene in Top Gun: Maverick highlights how some feats are too dangerous even for him . One of the biggest stipulations the actor had going into Maverick is that CGI would not play a major role in the film. Cruise got his wish, as most of the aerial footage depicted in Maverick is done with real planes. Being the man of ambition that he is, Cruise initially wanted to fly the Boeing F-18 fighter jet that's featured heavily throughout the movie. However, this turned out to be impossible.

Despite being a certified pilot, the U.S. Navy denied Cruise's request to fly the F-18, which itself holds a $70 million price tag. While no definitive answer has been given as to why Cruise couldn't fly the F-18 in Top Gun 2 , despite piloting other planes and helicopters in Maverick , it probably has to do with insurance reasons.

The F-18 alone would take up half of Maverick 's budget , and insurance for having Cruise in the pilot seat would have meant an even more expensive gambit. Considering how expensive the jet is on its own, it's probably best that the actor wasn't allowed to pilot it on his own. Rather, Navy pilots assisted in filming the F-18 scenes for Top Gun: Maverick .

Paramount Used Tom Cruise's P51 Mustang For The Top Gun 2 Marketing

Cruise's dedication to the sequel was a big narrative surrounding the movie.

It's no secret that Tom Cruise is an aviation enthusiast. The actor has spoken openly about his love of planes and all things flying throughout his career, and it's something he's both known and admired for among Top Gun fans. Paramount was clearly aware of this, as they leaned heavily into the fact that Cruise flew his own P51 Mustang in Top Gun: Maverick when promoting the movie. Of particular note is the featurette Paramount released on YouTube in 2022, simply titled "Tom's P51 Mustang."

The short promotional featurette is summed up perfectly by its title and is multiple interviews with Top Gun: Maverick 's cast members and technical professionals from the set . They all recount their experiences working with Cruise flying his P51 Mustang, some interesting facts about the plane itself, featuring great behind-the-scenes footage. Paramount putting this out there as part of the Top Gun 2 marketing both shows how astute the studio is at knowing its target audience, and how integral Cruise is as a personality for the Top Gun franchise beyond his acting talent.

Tom Cruise Isn't The Only Famous Plane Enthusiast

Various actors, filmmakers and musicians all have their own planes for travel.

Tom Cruise's P-51 Mustang and collection of other planes is impressive, but he's not the only celebrity who's made a hobby out of owning a plane. A long list of celebrities also owns their own jets for their personal travel needs. The most common jets owned by celebrities are the Gulfstream G650, Dassault Falcon, and the Bombardier, with each jet costing over $50 million and then some.

Mark Wahlberg ( The Departed ) owns a Bombardier BD-700, with which he takes frequent trips overseas, and across the U.S. Harrison Ford ( Indiana Jones ) himself owns a Cessna 680 Citation that jets him quickly all over the U.S. Steven Spielberg has a Gulfstream G-650, visiting various locations overseas. Star Wars creator George Lucas also owns a Gulfstream, with which he flies overseas relatively frequently.

Movie stars aren't the only celebrities who own their own aircraft, as plenty of famous singers also like to travel in style as well. Country superstar Blake Shelton purchased a Gulfstream 4 and takes summer trips across the U.S. Country musician Kenny Chesney also owns a jet, a Dassault Falcon 900 to be exact, and also tours the U.S. Jay-Z owns a Gulfstream 5, taking frequent trips all over. Finally, Taylor Swift herself is the proud owner of a Dassault Falcon 7X, which she uses to travel the globe.

Top Gun 2: All 6 Jet Fighter Planes That Appear In Maverick

Top gun wasn't the only movie where tom cruise actually flew, the mission: impossible movies best showcase cruise's commitment to stunts.

The P-51 stunts in Top Gun: Maverick were certainly impressive and such stunts have become typical for Tom Cruise's movie roles as of late. His commitment to realism has been a common theme in Cruise's career and Top Gun: Maverick isn't the only time he has piloted an aircraft on camera. For Mission: Impossible - Fallout , rather than relying on CGI or stunt doubles, Cruise took helicopter flying lessons so that he could perform the movie's biggest action sequence.

Cruise's Mission: Impossible stunts have become the stuff of legends, including his much-talked-about motorcycle jump in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 . However, the skill and training involved in learning to not only fly a helicopter but also pull off the stunts required in that sequence is especially impressive. It is yet another reason Cruise has earned a reputation as one of the last movie stars in Hollywood as he is willing to put everything he has into his roles, from Mission: Impossible to Top Gun: Maverick .

History of the P-51 Mustang

The P-51 Mustang was first introduced in 1940 and quickly became a game-changer in aerial combat. It was initially designed and manufactured in response to a British request for a long-range fighter aircraft.

The Mustang’s innovative design incorporated a powerful engine and advanced aerodynamics, allowing it to fly at high altitudes and achieve remarkable speeds.

During World War II, the P-51 Mustang was primarily used by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) and the Royal Air Force (RAF). It proved to be a formidable adversary, particularly during long-range bomber escort missions over Germany.

The P-51’s long-range capabilities enabled it to accompany bombers deep into enemy territory, providing crucial protection against enemy fighters.

One of the most significant moments in the P-51 Mustang’s history was the introduction of the Merlin engine. This powerful engine significantly improved the aircraft’s performance, making it even more effective in combat situations.

Is Tom Cruise a real pilot? All about his flying dream

  • by Chege Karomo
  •  – on May 26, 2022
  •  in People

Tom Cruise returns for the second installment of  Top Gun , which promises to be an improvement on the first one. However, before the film’s premiere, Cruise teamed up with television host and actor James Corden to promote the movie. In 2018, Tom took James skydiving; in 2022, Tom strapped him into a plane piloted by the  Mission Impossible  star.

“I’m gonna go up in a 75-year-old plane with someone who isn’t a pilot? Yeah, that sounds like a good idea,”  Corden protested .

If it were another actor, it’d be difficult to believe that they were a pilot. However, given Tom Cruise’s penchant for performing his own stunts, it’s pretty easy to fathom Cruise having a pilot’s license.

Tom Cruise has held a pilot’s license since 1994

Tom Cruise qualified as a pilot in 1994, nearly three decades ago. Cruise reportedly owns several planes, including a luxury Gulfstream jet and his beloved P-51 Mustang, a WWII fighter that’ll appear in  Top Gun .

“The P-51 Mustang you see in the movie is actually my plane, so I got to pilot in those sequences,” Cruise told  Hello magazine . “I also got to be in the jet fighter a lot more this time, which was thrilling. It was something I had been working up to.”

Cruise told the outlet that  Top Gun  allowed him to fulfill two dreams: flying and acting. “All I ever wanted to be was a pilot or an actor, so Top Gun was a huge moment in so many respects, including my passion for aviation,” Cruise said. “I got to actually fly in an F-14 jet which was a dream come true, and play a character I loved in Maverick.”

Tom told the PA News Service that he advocated for realism in the new  Top Gun , translating to as little computer trickery as possible. For Cruise, a man with a decades-old flying license, flying would be easy, but the rest of the cast needed intense training.

For three months, the actors developed skills crafted by Cruise and learned how to film while inside the aircraft. However, few can match Tom Cruise, as Miles Teller admitted that he never got used to the feeling:

“We trained for this for a long time, Tom had us in a flight programme for several months before we ever started filming. But it was never something you really ever got, like, super comfortable with, at least for me. It was something that every time I went up, it really tested me and I felt like I wanted to puke pretty much every time.”

Cruise didn’t get to fly the F-18 Super Hornet in  Top Gun

Cruise may be an experienced pilot, but the military doesn’t hand the keys to one of their most prized assets to anyone with a flying license.

The military hasn’t given a reason why it didn’t offer Cruise the F-18 Super Hornet, but we think money has a lot to do with it. The jet costs $70 million, nearly half of the film’s $152 budget. Few insurers would accept to insure potential damage of such an aircraft.

Furthermore, despite having a pilot’s license, Cruise may not have the requisite skill to fly an F-18 safely – placing one in his hands would put lives at risk. The crew and cast filmed using real F-18 jets driven by trained Navy pilots.

Did Tom Cruise and the 'Top Gun: Maverick' Cast Really Fly Their Planes?

Top Gun: Maverick marks the return of Tom Cruise's Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, who gets back into an F-18 for one of his most dangerous missions yet.

Cruise is well known for his quest to do all of his own stunts, unconcerned if it will result in a broken bone or two, and the actor has had a pilot's licence since 1994. And, he even owns the P-51 that is shown in Top Gun: Maverick .

Here is everything you need to know about the flying sequences in the Top Gun sequel, and how much of it was shot in real-life.

Did Tom Cruise And The 'Top Gun: Maverick' Cast Really Fly Their Planes?

Top Gun: Maverick

To quickly answer this question: Yes, Cruise and his co-stars really did fly planes for Top Gun: Maverick. But what is interesting is how much work and thought went into the incredible flying sequences.

To get ready for Top Gun: Maverick, Cruise created a three-month navy approved boot camp training course for himself and his co-stars, director Joseph Kosinski revealed in an interview with IGN.

Kosinski explained to the publication: "I think when you see the film you really feel what it is like to be a TOPGUN pilot, you can't fake that... we wanted to capture every bit of that and shooting it for real allowed us to do that."

The cast were filmed from inside the plane, the director shared, and Cruise worked with the navy for 15 months to find the perfect way to add in cameras into the plane without stopping them from using the controls as usual.

In the end, Cruise succeeded and cameras were placed inside and outside the F-18s that the cast fly in the film, and pilots from the real TOPGUN also helped fly planes that were designated to film them in the air.

The actors would have to turn on their cameras themselves, though, and only when they returned from their flight would Kosinski be able to watch the footage back, he explained: "I'd be there on the flight line setting up the cameras but once they pulled away I didn't know until they got back."

All of the flying shown in Top Gun: Maverick is real, even the intense steep climb up the side of a mountain face.

Miles Teller, who portrays Lieutenant Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, explained how difficult it was for the cast to fly their planes in those scenes, telling IGN: "The mountains are less than 100 ft off each wing tip and you're moving so fast, there's some cloud cover sometimes and you're in the backseat you can't necessarily see what is going on."

In a different interview with IGN Jay Ellis, who plays Lieutenant Reuben "Payback" Fitch, said: "When I first found out we had to be in jets I was excited. I didn't expect anything less because it's Tom Cruise, he does all of his own stunts so I expected we'd have to too, but when it became real it was like 'woah I don't want to do it anymore.'"

Cruise first spoke about the necessity of having practical effects in Top Gun: Maverick with Empire in March 2020 where he explained that he would only make the sequel if he could film the flying sequences for real.

He said: "We just started talking. And I realized that there were things that we could accomplish cinematically. And I started getting excited about this big challenge of, 'How do we do it?' So I said to Jerry, 'I'll do it if...' meaning, I'm not going to do the CGI stuff."

The actor went on: "I said to the studio, 'You don't know how hard this movie's going to be. No-one's ever done this before.' There's never been an aerial sequence shot this way. I don't know if there ever will be again, to be honest."

Top Gun: Maverick is out in theaters now.

'Top Gun: Maverick': Tom Cruise flew his own fighter plane in climax scene of the movie

Sujita Sinha

Tom Cruise, arguably the most charming actor in Hollywood, just shattered numerous records with his Top Gun Maverick . Due to several delays, the much-anticipated sequel took a while to arrive.

The actor, who is recognized for doing his own actions, is licensed as a commercial pilot and is capable of flying both single- and multi-engine aircraft. The actor did not leave a chance to offer moviegoers what they wanted 36 years after the first Top Gun movie. Also, he did not want to miss the opportunity to fly one of his own aircraft in the photo.

It might surprise you to know that Tom Cruise flew in his own vintage P-51 Mustang before meeting his new love interest Benjamin, played by Jennifer Connelly, in the film's dramatic conclusion. Moreover, the scene accurately depicted the growth of Rooster and Captain Mitchell's bond throughout the story.

In the film's last scene, Rooster Bradshaw, the son of Maverick's late best friend Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, is seen helping Maverick in restoring his vintage P-51 Mustang. Tom Cruise's passion for planes developed during the 1986 filming of the first Top Gun, which led him to get his pilot's license in 1994.

The plane, which cost an estimated $4 million, was originally bought for his former wife Katie Holmes. The plane was originally given the name "Kiss Me Kate," but Tom Cruise has changed it since their separation. In addition to the P-51 Mustang, the actor also owns a $20 million Gulfstream IV plane with a Jacuzzi and a screening area.

Every Tom Cruise movie has consistently emphasized its commitment to realism. It's interesting to note that Top Gun: Maverick isn't the only time he has flown a plane in front of the camera. Tom Cruise took helicopter flying training so that he could perform the film's most action-packed sequence without the help of CGI or stunt doubles in Mission: Impossible - Fallout .

I have to think that when Cruise told Paramount he'd be flying his own plane for Top Gun 2 they were just grateful he was actually in a plane instead of jumping out and/or hanging off of one. — Kaitlyn Booth (@katiesmovies) March 18, 2020

Why Tom Cruise Own $4 Million WWII Fighter Aircraft and $20 Million Private Jet

Top Gun sequel dubbed Top Gun: “Maverick” is due for release at the end of this year. As we have reported earlier that Tom Cruise owns $4 million dollar WWII fighter aircraft will feature In Top Gun: “Maverick” .

Tom Cruise loves flying. His passion for flying extends to not only $4 Million WWII Fighter but he also owns 4 more aircraft including a $20 Million private jet.

In 1986, Cruise landed the role of Maverick in the critically acclaimed movie Top Gun. While filming the movie, Cruise fell in love with aviation, and in 1994 he got his pilot license.

In an interview with Wired, Cruise said he is a multi-engine instrument-rated commercial pilot and is able to fly both commercial airplanes and helicopters.

In the upcoming Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, Cruise is actually flying some of the airplanes in the movie. He recently talked to Conan O’Brien about the upcoming sequel. And he said it has always been his dream to “make movies and fly airplanes.”

According to World War Wings, Cruise owns at least three different luxury aircraft, but he may own as many as five airplanes.

His most luxurious aircraft is his Gulfstream IV G4 jet. The Gulfstream IV cost around $20 million and is capable of hauling up to 19 passengers. The jet can travel up to 45,000 feet in the air and is equipped with a jacuzzi and a movie-screening room to help him and his guests feel at home even when they are several thousand feet in the air.

Cruise also owns a P-51 Mustang, which was a real-life WWII fighter. The aircraft was built in 1946 and was donated to a museum in Illinois. In 1997 the P-51 was completely restored and later sold to Cruise in 2001. Cruise had some custom alterations made to the plane — specifically he had the words “Kiss Me Kate” (in reference to his ex-wife, Katie Holmes) painted on the nose of the plane.

Out of all of the airplanes that Cruise owns, he seems to like his P-51 Mustang the best. He has frequently been spotted flying the plane and has even been known to let his friends ride with him in his WWII fighter.

This Mustang has a serial number of 44-12840 and was built in 1946. It was donated to the Civil Air Patrol unit and eventually ended up in a museum in Illinois. It was later completely restored by 1997 by Art Teeters and four years later was bought by Tom Cruise in 2001.

He renamed it to Kiss Me Kate after his ex-wife, Kate Holmes.

Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun: “Maverick” will hit the theater this year but till now still it’s not confirmed which aircraft will feature in the movie and which Aircraft tom cruise will fly in the movie.

Top Gun sequel dubbed Top Gun: “Maverick” filming is underway right now. The upcoming film, slated for release on June 26, 2020, in the U.S., is likely entering the final stages of its production phase before going to post-production and editing.

Top Gun: Maverick will reportedly revolve around Tom Cruise’s Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell as he trains Bradley Bradshaw who is a pilot trainee, as well as the son of Maverick’s late partner Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (who was played by Anthony Edwards in the original 1986 film).

Bradshaw will be played by actor Miles Teller. Additionally, the new film will also feature Val Kilmer returning as Commander Thomas “Iceman” Kazansky, plus Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell and Ed Harris will all also be appearing.

Top Gun Maverick: Tom Cruise Owns This Plane From the Movie, as He Is Spotted Taking the Machine to the Skies Recently

Top Gun Maverick: Tom Cruise Owns This Plane From the Movie, Recently Spotted Flying - Top Gun: Maverick

Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise was recently spotted flying an aircraft out of the Naples Airport in Florida. Turns out, it is the same P-51 Mustang viewers saw in his movie, Top Gun: Maverick.

Cruise, who is a licensed pilot, owns this magnificent fighter-bomber. This came up via reports, and it ignited a beautiful and tender connection between Cruise and his love for aviation, as we see in the Top Gun movies, that we were previously unaware of.

Tom Cruise flew his own P-51 Mustang in the ending sequence of Top Gun: Maverick

The 2022 movie Top Gun: Maverick was a long pending sequel to the 1986 movie Top Gun. Tom Cruise returned to Top Gun school, this time as an instructor, taking the story forward from where Top Gun left.

The actor was recently caught flying off on the Mustang, as he left for the production of the upcoming Mission: Impossible movie, Dead Reckoning Part Two. This is the same aircraft that we saw in Top Gun: Maverick. In fact, it was Tom Cruise himself who was reportedly flying the Mustang in the movie.

Cruise, who is said to have gained his love for aviation after the first Top Gun movie, got his pilot’s license in 1994. Since then, he has this Mustang, along with two other planes, in his collection. As for the Mustang, The Sun reports that while these P-51 Mustangs were used as fighter-bombers during World War II, Tom Cruise’s aircraft is “believed to have been built in 1946.” Furthermore, Cruise had reportedly even named the Mustang “Kiss Me Kate” after his ex-wife Katie Holmes. However, following Cruise’s separation with Katie Holmes, the name has since then been removed.

Regardless, we just got to see one more instance of Tom Cruise being a movie hero in real life, or should we say, Captain “Maverick” Mitchell?

Tom Cruise Used One Of His Own Planes In Top Gun: Maverick's Final Scene

Tom Cruise smiling

Nearly 40 years after Tom Cruise flew into our hearts with 1986's "Top Gun," its sequel, "Top Gun: Maverick," has proven that there is still plenty of fuel in the tank for audiences to enjoy. Released during the 2022 Memorial Day weekend, the film, which follows Pete Maverick ( Tom Cruise ) returning to the Top Gun program in order to train a new crop of pilots for a dangerous mission, became a record-breaking juggernaut at the box office. Upon its opening weekend, the film earned over $160 million, becoming the most successful film to open during Memorial Day weekend, besting the previous record-holder, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" (via Deadline ). "Maverick" would go on to become the year's current highest-grossing title (via Variety ) with a worldwide box office gross of over $1.4 billion (via Box Office Mojo ). On top of that, the film was lauded by critics and audiences alike, boasting a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes .

Among the film's most beloved aspects are its daring arrays of stunts and plane flying sequences. "Maverick" saw a different challenge as the rest of the cast had to go through rigorous training in order to direct themselves while simultaneously performing their many high-flying action scenes (via The Independent ). For stunt guru Cruise, however, this was clearly a great chance for him to allow his immense love of aviation to shine once again. And he would do this by showing off his own impressive air vessel in the film.

Cruise's P-51 Mustang is his pride and joy

The end of "Top Gun: Maverick" would see the use of a P-51 Mustang where Rooster, which Maverick uses to fly with his love interest, Penny (Jennifer Connelly). The impressive machine, which was originally built as a fighter jet in the 1940s for use in World War II, belongs to Tom Cruise. "You know if 'Top Gun' was made in the 1940s ... this airplane is the star of the show," says "Top Gun: Maverick" technical advisor Steve Hinton in a behind-the-scenes featurette (via YouTube ). "Airplanes today are very computer-oriented and P-51 is all push, pull, cables, nothing's automatic." To promote the film's release, Cruise even brought late-night television host James Corden into the plane for a special flight — much to Corden's dismay (via YouTube ).

While Cruise may be well-known for his daring array of stunts within such movies as the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, the actor also has a real-life need for speed, owning a varied collection of valuable automobiles, motorcycles, and planes. This should come as no surprise, considering that Cruise obtained his pilot's license in 1994 (via Style ). His plane collection is especially impressive, as he is reported to own upwards of five private jets, including a Gulfstream IV G4 jet, which he originally got for his then-wife, Katie Holmes. Even his famous Mustang would sport "Kiss Me, Kate" on its side for some time until the two broke up (via Forbes ).

NBAA 2019: Honda Aircraft Customizes HondaJet for Tom Cruise

It’s the fastest entry-level jet, so one could say it satisfies a need for speed.

By Plane & Pilot Updated October 28, 2019 Save Article

Tom Cruise and Honda Aircraft President and CEO Michimasa Fujino

At NBAA, Honda Aircraft President and CEO Michimasa Fujino, who’s usually the one who’s name is dropped, dropped a good one and shared the news of a bucket-list plane he got to fly, one that everyone reading this right now would want to fly, too.

Mr. Fujino started out by showing a photo of a HondaJet that a customer, whom he said he couldn’t name, had asked for the company to customize. It had to look like a race car, be cool-looking, beautiful and elegant.

That customer, whom Mr. Fujino did indeed name, is none other than movie star Tom Cruise, who reportedly just loves his HondaJet. We loved the plane too and named it our 2016 Plane & Pilot Plane Of The Year.

As you might know Cruise is starring in the sequel of one of the most popular aviation films ever, Top Gun . Top Gun 2 was originally scheduled to hit theaters this year, but its release has been delayed until June of next year. The flying is off the hook and, yes, there’s that motorcycle scene revisited, as well. Here’s the trailer and our story on the spy shots of what was probably a Top Gun 2 buzz job .

Subscribe today   to Plane & Pilot magazine for industry news, reviews and much more delivered straight to you!

Mr. Fujino’s other big reveal was that he got to fly in an F-18 too, though, no, TC was not PIC of that one.

Tom Cruise’s $4 Million Dollar American WWII Fighter Will Make You Jealous

Tom Cruise’s $4 Million Dollar American WWII Fighter Will Make You Jealous | World War Wings Videos

Judging By His Selection He Has Excellent Taste.

Tom Cruise is apparently the Maverick he portrayed in one of his top movies from back in the 80s. It seems that the lead actor of the movie Top Gun got the flying bug while filming, getting his pilot’s license 8 years later in 1994. Since then, the millionaire actor apparently purchased anywhere between three to five private jets including a $20M Gulfstream. It was of course fitted with a jacuzzi and a screening room.

tom2

Cruise also seems to see value in appreciating assets as well, purchasing a P-51 Mustang in 2001.

Although quite luxurious when flying privately, Cruise purchased a rugged World War II fighter namely, a P-51 Mustang. We found a very ‘Hollywood’ style paparazzi clip which shows him climbing into his new big boy toy , but it’s not much. We did however find the paperwork from the registry.

We gathered up some great pictures of this warbird and it seems like it’s in good hands. Tom apparently loves flying it but more importantly it is in the hands of a man who can afford to keep her flying. Kiss Me Kate is stored at Valhalla Aviation in Los Angeles and is getting all the work done she needs.

Tom Cruise takes spin in 1930s biplane after landing his helicopter at Duxford museum

The Hollywood star took a spin in the Boeing Stearman at Duxford Imperial War Museum in Cambridge on a break from filming Missing Impossible

  • Updated 22:32, 11 Sep 2021

When a Top Gun takes off in a 1930s biplane, the craft’s full-throttle speed of 124mph must feel a bit disappointing.

Especially when his F-14 Tomcat fighter can do 1,544mph. But it turned out Cruise-ing speed was just fine for Hollywood star Tom.

The actor took a spin in a Boeing Stearman after landing his helicopter at Duxford Imperial War Museum on a break from filming Mission: Impossible.

Cruise, 59 – whose catchphrase was “I feel the need for speed” as pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in 1986 classic Top Gun – toured old warplanes including the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Lancaster at the Cambridgeshire site.

An onlooker said: “He was fascinated by it all and had a fly in the Stearman.

“Someone took him up, but I don’t know if they let him take the controls.”

The star would surely have loved a go – he owns a Second World War P-51 Mustang fighter as well as a Gulfstream IV G4 jet that set him back £15million.

And he is soon reprising his role as pilot Pete in Top Gun: Maverick.

The trip was the latest in a string of British days out for Cruise, after he went to Silverstone, Wimbledon and the Euros 2020 final at Wembley.

Tom Cruise flies his P-51 Mustang out of Naples, Florida Airport

tom cruise plane he owns

Tom Cruise is once more taking to the sky.

The 60-year-old A-lister was recently spotted at Naples Airport in Florida, taking a tiny plane he owns out for a flight as he gets ready to start filming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.

Tuesday, as he got ready to board a flight in his P-51 Mustang, Cruise was spotted at the airport wearing a light blue shirt and black pants.

On the spring day at the airfield, he was in good shape and sported shaggy brown hair.

For the weekend outing, Cruise was spotted donning sunglasses and an aviation headset as he boarded the aircraft that bore his name on the side.

The antique aircraft was used by Cruise in his wildly popular summertime sequel from the previous year, Top Gun: Maverick.

According to The Sun, the aircraft had been in operation during World War II and the one Cruise possesses is thought to have been built in 1946.

The actor was spotted before the film Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, in which he will reprise his role as Ethan Hunt, began filming.

The film, which also features Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby and is directed by Christopher McQuarrie, is scheduled to hit theaters in June 2024.

Additionally, Cruise is preparing for the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One promotional tour, which will begin in July, reported by Adam. S. Levy from Daily Mail.

Known for performing his own stunts, Cruise first discovered his love of flying while filming the 1986 action hit Top Gun.

The action hero reportedly owns two further aircraft and obtained his license for the first time in 1994, according to the site.

According to Box Office Mojo, Top Gun: Maverick earned $1.49 billion worldwide, including $718 million in domestic sales, since it debuted in theaters in May of last year.

On six nominations, the movie received one Academy Award for Best Sound earlier this year.

In addition, it received nominations for Best Achievement in Visual Effects, Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song) for Lady Gaga and BloodPop’s Hold My Hand, and Best Achievement in Film Editing.

Following his failure to receive any individual acting nominations for his performance in the well-received sequel, Cruise made headlines earlier this year when he chose not to attend the Oscars.

In an interview with The Sun, the actor’s co-star Jay Ellis referred to Cruise as “the last great movie star.”

Ellis declared, “Tom is special.” He completed every task. I believe that Tom is slept on. However, people need to be aware that he is the final great movie star.

‘What people forget is that [Cruise’s] body of work is really extensive,’ said Ellis, ‘he has done every genre; there is character, story, action, everything – and he succeeded.’

“His ability to not only use the camera while organically performing on camera is a masterclass,” Ellis continued.

There are not many people who can perform the task in his manner. He is the kindest, most sincere, and openly generous individual.

Details of Tom Cruise's Split With Elsina Khayrova Revealed

Details of Tom Cruise 's split from Russian socialite Elsina Khayrova have been revealed, RadarOnline.com has learned.

The Mission: Impossible star went public with his relationship with Khayrova at a party in London's Grosvenor Square in early December — but after a few short months of dating, the couple called it quits after Cruise allegedly asked her to marry him.

After three divorces, Cruise allegedly thought he'd found The One in Khayrova. According to a sensational report, sources claimed Cruise "fell for her hard" and the " romance was going along smoothly."

"They knew everything about each other," an insider dished to Star magazine. "She knew all about his past — and he was fascinated with learning everything he could about her."

" Tom was in love with Elsina and when he's in love he moves fast," the source said. "Then he did what he always does when he finds a woman he loves, he asked her to marry him."

The alleged proposal — and the actor's intensity — reportedly sent the socialite spiraling.

Never miss a story — sign up for the RadarOnline.com newsletter to get your daily dose of dope. Daily. Breaking. Celebrity news. All free.

"She started questioning why Tom was in such a rush to tie the knot," the source said. "It was all moving too fast. She got scared off."

Khayrova was said to be shocked and overwhelmed but ultimately accepted Cruise's proposal . Days later, she started having second thoughts when the actor began feverishly planning their alleged nuptials.

"He was obsessed with getting all the details exactly right, like Elsina's favorite flowers and colors, her favorite foods — even her wedding dress and the honeymoon," a tipster revealed.

Of course, sources said the devout Scientologist wanted a double-ring wedding per the church's traditions, likely including the A-R-C triangle, which represents "Affinity, Reality and Communication — the component parts of Understanding."

"Tom was handling every aspect of it and it started freaking Elsina out," the source explained.

When Elsina decided to call off the engagement and end the relationship, the insider claimed, "She sat Tom down and told him she couldn't go through with it."
