MEGADETH Adds Second Concert At 15,000-Capacity Movistar Arena In Buenos Aires After First Show Sells Out

MEGADETH has announced a second show in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

After the April 13, 2024 concert at the 15,000-capacity Movistar Arena sold out in a matter of hours, the band added another date at the same venue, scheduled for the following night, April 14.

Last month, MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine said that he and his bandmates were "planning a really big surprise" for the first show in Buenos Aires, which will be part of the Latin American leg of the "Crush The World" tour. The trek will kick off in Lima, Peru on Saturday, April 6 and will include stops in Chile, Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil and México.

MEGADETH 's upcoming concerts in Argentina will take place 30 years after the band's first appearance in the country, which took place on December 2, 1994 at the Obras Sanitarias stadium. It was at that gig that the chant "Aguante Megadeth" was started during the song "Symphony Of Destruction" , loosely translating to " MEGADETH rocks".

MEGADETH played its first concert with new guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari on September 6 at Revel in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The 36-year-old Mäntysaari was born in Tampere, Finland and began playing guitar at the age of 12. In 2004, he joined the band WINTERSUN . He has also been a member of SMACKBOUND since 2015.

Mäntysaari stepped into MEGADETH as the replacement for the band's longtime axeman Kiko Loureiro , who announced in September that he would sit out the next leg of MEGADETH 's "Crush The World" tour in order to stay home with his children back in Finland.

Loureiro officially joined MEGADETH in April 2015, about five months after Chris Broderick 's exit from the group.

In addition to Mustaine and Mäntysaari , MEGADETH 's current lineup includes former SOILWORK drummer Dirk Verbeuren and bassist James LoMenzo .

In September 2022, MEGADETH 's latest album, "The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!" , debuted at the top of the charts during its first week of sales, taking the No. 3 spot on the Billboard 200 as well as number ones on Top Album Sales, Top Current Albums Sales, Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums. "The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!" was the highest-charting MEGADETH album of all time around the world, notching No. 1 In Finland, No. 2 in australia, poland, Switzerland, and Scotland, No. 3 in the U.K., and more.

MEGADETH 's previous top 10 entries on the Billboard 200 were "Countdown to Extinction" (No. 2, 1992), "Youthanasia" (No. 4, 1994), "Cryptic Writings" (No. 10, 1997), "United Abominations" (No. 8, 2007), "Endgame" (No. 9, 2009), "Super Collider" (No. 6, 2013) and "Dystopia" (No. 3, 2016).

MEGADETH received its thirteenth Grammy nomination for "Best Metal Performance" for the song "We'll Be Back" from "The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!" .

MEGADETH won the 2017 Grammy Award for "Best Metal Performance" for the title track of the band's 2016 album "Dystopia" . This marked the group's twelfth Grammy nomination in this category (including nominations in the discontinued "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance" category).

‘A Really Big Surprise’ Awaits MEGADETH Fans At Their Buenos Aires Show, Says DAVE MUSTAINE

Dave Mustaine Graspop 2022

MEGADETH , the legendary thrash metal band that rocked the world with their 2023 international tour across Europe, Canada and the US, has revealed new dates for their “ Crush The World” tour in 2024. The band will be back in Latin America for 10 amazing shows, starting with Lima, Peru on Saturday, April 6. The tour will also visit Chile, Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil and México.

Fan-club members can get their tickets for some of the dates from Saturday, November 11 at 10 a.m. local time at MEGADETH ’s official website . The general public can buy their tickets for some of the dates from 10 a.m. local venue time on November 13.

MEGADETH  mainman  Dave Mustaine  said: “April of 2024  MEGADETH  returns to South America to support our latest record,  The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! , and I always get excited because there is something truly different about South America. I don’t know what it is… but whatever IT is, they come by it naturally. We are also planning a really big surprise for where ‘Aguante Megadeth’ all started in Buenos Aires, too! So… if you can, DO NOT MISS THAT SHOW!”

“Crush The World”  Latin American tour 2024 dates are as follows:

April 06 – Lima, Peru @ Arena 1 April 09 – Santiago, Chile  @ Movistar Arena April 11 – Montevideo, Uruguay @ Arena Antel April 13 – Buenos Aires, Argentina @ Movistar Arena April 16 – Asuncion, Paraguay @ Jockey Club April 18 – São Paulo, Brazil @ Espaco Unimed April 21 – Bogota, Colombia @ Movistar Arena April 23 – San Salvador, El Salvador @ Complejo Cuscatlan April 25 – Ciudad de México, México @ Arena Ciudad de México April 27 – Monterrey, México @ Arena Monterrey

During a last month’s interview with  Greg Prato  from Ultimate Guitar, Mustaine  discussed welcoming  Teemu Mäntysaari  of  WINTERSUN  and  SMACKBOUND  as their new touring guitarist.

Mäntysaari  is stepping in for  MEGADETH ‘s regular guitarist,  Kiko Loureiro .  Loureiro  has chosen to skip the upcoming leg of  MEGADETH ‘s  “Crush The World”  tour to spend time with his children in Finland.

Commenting on  Kiko ‘s non-participation in the current  MEGADETH  tour,  Mustaine  said: “I love [ Kiko ] and I want him to get whatever he’s going through worked out. And fortunately, he had mentioned the name of a guy,  Teemu Mäntysaari .  Teemu  came out, and he was prepared.

He continued: “I don’t know when  Kiko  is coming back. He won’t be back for this run [of tour dates]. He’s at home, and he’s soldiering on — for lack of a better term — and working through whatever it is he needs to get through.

“Out of respect for him, I didn’t pry and ask what exactly it was — because it’s really none of my business unless he tells me. But I think for any of the fans that are going to say, ‘How’s it going to sound? What’s it going to be like?’ Don’t worry. I’ve picked good guitar players in the past, and I train them well.  Teemu  is very capable of playing these songs. In fact, we’re adding new songs to the set. That is really exciting, too.”

“I wish  Kiko  the very best,”  Dave  added. “I love him, and I hope to get some good news from him soon.”

An awesome show that reminded me of the reasons why I love Megadeth. My son was so happy that I took him along too, he said it was the best experience ever and that he now understood what it was like to at 80’s metal music gig. We both can’t wait to see them again. Hope they do their own tour soon.

AMAZING!!! I had the best time, I just wish I had the money to meet the band. I did get to meet the Drummer from the first band. He was bad ass! Really nice, I just can read their name.

This was the 3rd time seeing Megadeth, second time at the Revention Center. Awsome venue and just the right size. Thankful I was able to get to the front and your security was awesome. They bring you fresh water!

Amazing night!!

What can I say...I was at a sold out 1,600 person venue with Megadeth literally feet away from me. It was more than awesome. The guitar playing was amazing (from lead, rhythm and bass) and drummer did a solid job. Ellefson was really into it (considering he grew up near here) and Mustaine sounded great and seemed to enjoy it. Highly recommend for anyone with remote interest.
