Hyatt’s Commission Statement Hyatt hotels and resorts will pay 10% commission to approved travel agencies for all Eligible Rates worldwide. “ Eligible Rates ” means certain rate plans communicated to Travel Advisor as commissionable.  The Eligible Rate applies to the portion of the room rate paid by the guest. Commission does not apply to incidentals, taxes, mandatory fees, e.g. resort fees or gratuities. Special discounted rates for travel advisors are non-commissionable.

Commissions for stays at Hyatt’s hotels and resorts will be paid for each night stayed at an Eligible Rate, up to the first 29 consecutive nights of a guest’s stay. Back-to-back stays within a 24-hour period at a single Hyatt hotel are considered one stay.  Unless otherwise agreed, Commission is not paid on convention bookings, government rates that are net/non-commissionable, any internet-only (not including Hyatt.com) rate programs, Hyatt gift cards and rates booked through online travel agencies.

Please contact Onyx customer service for additional commission payment information, including the dates commission checks were issued, client changes which affect commission payments and questions regarding no-shows.

All commission payment inquiries must be submitted within 9 months of the guest’s check-out.

1 Discount is based off Best Available Rate (i.e., best, non-qualified, unrestricted, publicly available rate on the brand sites for the hotel, date, and accommodation requested). Discount not available at Wyndham Alltra properties. In addition, some brands and hotels may not participate in providing discount. Blackout dates and room type exclusions may apply. Discount is based on availability at participating hotels and cannot be combined with any other discounts or promotional offers. Advance reservations required. Must book directly with Wyndham (and not through any third party) using corporate code. Other terms and restrictions may apply.

2 Groups, Meetings & Events Program Terms & Conditions:

Not all Wyndham Rewards hotels participate in the Groups, Meetings & Events program, and some Wyndham Rewards hotels may offer point bonuses to event planners under terms that differ from the Groups, Meetings & Events program. Please inquire at the property to see if it offers the Groups, Meetings & Events program or another event planner point bonus program. In the event of any inconsistency between the program described herein and your contract with a hotel property, the terms of your contract with the hotel property will prevail.

Subject to all terms and conditions set forth herein, each hotel participating in the Groups, Meetings & Events program (the “Program”) will award to the Planner of any Qualifying Event held at such hotel (each as defined below) one (1) Wyndham Rewards point per $1 U.S. dollar (or equivalent currency conversion, as determined at the time points are awarded) spent on the following components of such Qualifying Event (in each case, to the extent booked, used and paid for in accordance with a Contract (as defined below)): sleeping room rates (but only if the Qualifying Event includes at least ten (10) sleeping rooms on a single night (the “Sleeping Room Minimum”)); meeting room rental fees; and food and beverage charges for meals offered as part of the Qualifying Event; in each case, exclusive of taxes, resort fees, facility fees, incidental charges, gratuities and related charges (each such component, individually, a “Qualifying Revenue Component”, and the revenue generated from all applicable Qualifying Revenue Components, collectively, “Qualifying Revenue”). For purposes of these terms and conditions, “Qualifying Event” means any group event at a participating hotel, which event: (i) is reserved by, reflected within and paid for in accordance with a written contract executed by authorized representatives of the group and the participating hotel in question, which contract explicitly states that the Program will apply to such group event (the “Contract”); and (ii) generates Qualifying Revenue. For clarity, a suite will count as only one (1) sleeping room in determining whether the Sleeping Room Minimum has been met, sleeping rooms booked and used on different nights of a multi-night stay cannot be combined to meet the Sleeping Room Minimum and only (1) night of a multi-night stay is required to meet the Sleeping Room Minimum for the Qualifying Event’s total sleeping room revenue to be deemed a Qualifying Revenue Component.

A multi-day Qualifying Event reflected on one (1) Contract will constitute a single Qualifying Event under the Program. For purposes of these terms and conditions, “Planner” means any individual Wyndham Rewards member who (a) either on behalf of him/herself or a third party, books a Qualifying Event; and (b) is either identified as the “Planner” of such Qualifying Event in the applicable Contract or substituted for such Planner in accordance with these terms and conditions. Points earned under the Program may be disbursed among up to three (3) Planners so long as the percentage of points each such Planner is to receive is set forth in the Contract. Wyndham Rewards is free to join and open to individuals 18 years or older. For terms and conditions of the Wyndham Rewards program, go to wyndhamrewards.com/terms .

The Program is subject to blackout dates and availability.

Subject to these terms and conditions, Wyndham Rewards points will be awarded for all Qualifying Revenue regardless of whether payment is made via a master account or by individuals. There is no minimum spend requirement or maximum cap on the number of points that a Planner can earn per Qualifying Event or per calendar year under this Program. Wyndham Rewards points earned in accordance with these terms and conditions will be awarded by the date that is thirty (30) days after the date on which all amounts payable in connection with the Qualifying Event have been paid in full. Planners who have elected to earn airline miles, rail points or other travel partner currency in their Wyndham Rewards profile (rather than Wyndham Rewards points) will receive Wyndham Rewards points under this Program pursuant to its terms and conditions.

Wyndham Rewards points earned in accordance with these terms and conditions will be awarded to the Planner identified in the Contract; provided, however, that in the event such Planner ceases to be employed, contracted by or otherwise authorized to act as an event planner on behalf of the group prior to the deposit of points earned hereunder into such Planner’s account, the group will have the right to substitute an alternate Wyndham Rewards member to receive such points (any such substitution to be reflected in a writing signed by authorized representatives of the group and participating hotel). By participating in the Program, any Planner who books on behalf of an employer, client or any other third party (each, a “Third Party”) agrees to notify such Third Party of any points such Planner receives in connection with the Program, and to comply with all applicable gift or incentive policies of such Third Party, as well as all applicable laws, rules and regulations. By participating in the Program, each Planner agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Wyndham Hotel Group, LLC, Wyndham Rewards, Inc., the participating hotel, and their respective affiliates and subsidiaries from and against any and all claims asserted by any Third Party arising from such Planner’s failure to comply with the foregoing sentence.

In the event the number of sleeping room nights, meeting rental fees and/or applicable food and beverage charges actually used/incurred during a Qualifying Event vary from the number of sleeping room nights, meeting rental fees and/or applicable food and beverage charges set forth in the Contract, Wyndham Rewards points awarded under the Program will be based upon the number of sleeping room nights, meeting rental fees and applicable food and beverage charges actually used/incurred. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in these terms and conditions, (A) participating hotel reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to decrease the number of Program points to be awarded, or to award no Program points, in the event that the Qualifying Revenue generated from a Qualifying Event decreases by more than thirty percent (30%) from the total amount of Qualifying Revenue contemplated by the Contract; (B) Wyndham Rewards points will not be awarded on complimentary rooms, meeting event credits or special discounted programs; and (C) any Planner or Planner’s immediate family member who receives a bonus, payment or other incentive under the Wyndham Referral Rewards Program in connection with a Qualifying Event is ineligible to receive points under this Program in connection with such Qualifying Event.

Wyndham Hotel Group reserves the right to change or terminate the Program or any of its terms and conditions at any time without notice. Void where prohibited by law. Use of Wyndham Rewards points is subject to the terms and conditions of the Wyndham Rewards program which is subject to change at any time without notice. Visit wyndhamrewards.com/terms for full program terms and conditions.

5 Travel Advisor Commission Inquiry Process

Timeline Payments

Commissions are processed once a month typically for the previous month’s departures; however, the processing dates don’t always align with the calendar month.  Due to the processing calendar, payment of commissions usually occurs 45-60 days after departure.

Open Inquiry

In order to streamline the process and provide better tracking, all inquiries are to go to  Onyx CenterSource  (Wyndham Hotels & Resorts commissions processing vendor) directly.

Onyx members: Visit  Onyx  to research and open inquiries

Non-members: please submit the  Minimum Inquiry Requirements  to  Web Assistance

  • Please do not contact the hotel property directly.
  • Inquiries should be opened no earlier than 60 days after date-of-departure (DOD)
  • Inquiries received more than 180 days after DOD will not be processed.
  • Only reservations with a valid Travel Advisor number (ARC/IATA/CLIA/TRUE/GSO Pseudo) are processed through the central commission process.
  • Travel advisors are required to reconcile their payments prior to contacting Onyx CenterSource for assistance.

The Role of Travel Agents in Hotel Bookings

Travel agents play a crucial role in helping you book hotels. They are like your personal travel concierge, offering you freedom from the hassle and stress of finding the perfect accommodation for your trip. With their expertise, they can find you the best deals, recommend suitable options based on your preferences, and handle all the necessary arrangements. Whether you’re looking for a luxurious resort or a budget-friendly inn, travel agents have access to a wide range of hotel choices that cater to different needs and budgets. So instead of spending hours researching online and feeling overwhelmed by countless options, let travel agents take care of everything while you enjoy the freedom to focus on other aspects of your trip.

Tools and Technology Used by Travel Agents for Hotel Reservations

Technology has made it easier for you, as a travel agent, to quickly reserve hotel accommodations. With the help of online booking platforms and travel management software, you can effortlessly search for available hotels, compare prices, and make reservations in just a few clicks. These tools provide you with real-time information about room availability, amenities, and customer reviews so that you can find the perfect hotel that suits your clients’ preferences and budget. Additionally, technology enables you to access exclusive deals and discounts offered by hotels to travel agents. This freedom empowers you to offer your clients the best options at the most competitive prices. So embrace these technological advancements and enjoy the convenience they bring as you book amazing hotel stays for your valued travelers!

Understanding Travel Agent Rates and Discounts for Hotels

Understanding the rates and discounts available to travel agents for hotel accommodations can greatly benefit both you and your clients. As a travel agent, you have the freedom to access exclusive deals and special offers that are not available to the general public. These discounted rates can help you save money on hotel bookings, allowing you to pass on the savings to your clients. By taking advantage of these discounts, you can offer competitive prices and provide added value to your customers. Additionally, understanding the different types of rates available such as net rates or commissionable rates can give you more flexibility in tailoring packages that meet your clients’ specific needs. So don’t miss out on these amazing opportunities; make sure to stay up-to-date with the latest rates and discounts offered by hotels for travel agents!

Tips for Travel Agents to Find the Best Hotel Deals for Clients

To find the best hotel deals for your clients, you should consider utilizing online platforms that offer exclusive discounts and promotions. These platforms give you the freedom to compare prices, read reviews, and book directly with the hotel. By using these websites, you can access special rates that are not available to the general public. It’s important to keep in mind that these deals may have certain restrictions or conditions attached to them, so be sure to carefully review all the details before making a reservation. Additionally, don’t forget to check if your travel agency has any partnerships or affiliations with specific hotels or hotel chains. This could grant you access to even more exclusive discounts and perks for your clients. With these resources at your fingertips, you can confidently secure the best hotel deals for your clients’ dream vacations.

The Importance of Communication and Negotiation Skills in Hotel Bookings for Travel Agents

When it comes to securing the best hotel deals for your clients, honing your communication and negotiation skills is essential. As a travel agent, you have the freedom to search for the perfect accommodations that will suit your clients’ needs and budget. By effectively communicating with hotel representatives, you can negotiate better rates or even score exclusive perks for your clients. It’s important to establish clear lines of communication, whether it’s through phone calls or email exchanges, to ensure that all details are understood and agreed upon. Negotiation skills come into play when discussing prices, room upgrades, or additional amenities. Remember that being polite yet assertive can go a long way in getting your clients the best possible deal. So keep honing those skills and watch as you secure amazing hotel deals for your clients!

9 things to consider when choosing to book via a portal vs. booking directly

Ryan Smith

Editor's Note

When it comes to travel, you have a lot of options.

You can book directly through the website of an airline, hotel, rental car company or other travel provider. You can also use online travel agencies like Expedia or Skyscanner. And many banks offer their own portals, such as Capital One Travel and Chase Travel .

While there are some horror stories from cancellations associated with portals, booking with one linked to a credit card in your wallet can be an attractive option.

Consider asking yourself these nine questions to determine the best approach for planning your next trip. They will help you decide whether to book directly, use an online travel agency or utilize a credit card portal for your next vacation.

Will you forfeit status perks and status earnings?

travel agent booking hotel rooms

When booking a hotel room through online travel agencies like Hotels.com or Expedia , you may not receive your stay credit from the hotel brand (e.g., Marriott Bonvoy ). Any nights that would typically contribute toward your status won't be counted.

Moreover, as a member with elite status, you often won't receive the usual perks during your stay — like free breakfast or room upgrades. This applies to all major hotel loyalty programs . Many hotels offer a best-price guarantee , allowing you to request a match to a better price you find elsewhere, even if it's on an online travel agency. With this guarantee, you can enjoy loyalty benefits without spending more than necessary.

The decision becomes less straightforward if you want to leverage perks that require booking through a credit card travel portal — which can include bonus rewards or statement credits. You must prioritize what matters most: receiving elite perks and night credits or earning more credit card points and benefiting from automatic discounts for your stay.

However, it's worth noting that flights booked through third-party sites generally qualify as ordinary revenue tickets and are thus eligible to earn points or miles in the given airline's loyalty program. However, be sure to read the terms carefully to avoid booking restrictive basic economy fares .

Do you have travel credits you can use from your credit card?

travel agent booking hotel rooms

Several credit cards offer travel credits on your statements when you book through their travel portals.

For example, the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card (see rates and fees ) offers $300 in annual credits when you reserve flights, hotels and rental cars through the Capital One Travel portal .

Similarly, anyone with The Platinum Card® from American Express can enjoy various benefits of the Amex Platinum , including an annual hotel credit worth up to $200 for prepaid reservations at Fine Hotels + Resorts properties or The Hotel Collection (the latter of which requires a two-night minimum). The perk is issued as a statement credit to your account. Like the Capital One credit, the only way to receive the Amex credit is to book an eligible stay through the American Express Travel portal .

Those with a Chase Sapphire Preferred Card also receive a comparable credit for hotel reservations, though it's significantly lower at $50 per year. Simply book through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal to have the annual credit appear on your account.

If you have a travel credit you have yet to use, take advantage of it before it expires. But carefully consider its rules to ensure your booking qualifies for reimbursement.

What will cost you the fewest points?

travel agent booking hotel rooms

If you have accumulated enough points in credit card portals like American Express Membership Rewards or Citi ThankYou points , you should carefully consider which redemption option will require the fewest points for your upcoming trip.

Sometimes, transferring your points to a partner program and booking through their website may be the most cost-effective option.

On the other hand, it may be cheaper in some situations to keep your points in your credit card account and use them through the card's travel portal. This is especially true for hotels, as transferring points to a partner hotel loyalty program may provide less value than redeeming them directly through your credit card issuer.

This can also make sense for boutique properties that don't participate in a loyalty program.

Always compare both redemption options before transferring your points to ensure that you get the best value .

Related: How (and why) you should earn transferable points

What will get you the most points on your credit card?

travel agent booking hotel rooms

Regarding travel expenses, you should consider which credit card offers the best rewards for each purchase .

For instance, the Capital One Venture X (see rates and fees ) card provides 10 miles per dollar spent on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel. Additionally, you earn 5 miles per dollar spent on flights booked this way. Comparing these rates to the 2 miles per dollar earned on purchases made outside the Capital One Travel portal, it's clear which option is more advantageous.

Chase follows a similar pattern. If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve and book through the Ultimate Rewards portal, you will earn 10 points per dollar spent on hotels and rental cars and 5 points on flights. These rates are significantly better than the 3 points per dollar earned on travel booked through other methods.

The Amex Platinum card presents a more drastic example. It offers 5 points per dollar for prepaid hotels booked through the Amex Travel portal. You also receive 5 points per dollar spent on flights booked directly with an airline or through Amex Travel (up to $500,000 in flights per calendar year, then 1 point per dollar spent). However, for hotel reservations booked directly with a hotel, you only earn 1 point per dollar spent. While you can choose either option for airfare, booking hotel stays through Amex Travel is best to maximize your earnings — though again, you'll likely give up the opportunity to earn hotel points by doing so.

Do you have to choose between rental car loyalty perks and a better price?

travel agent booking hotel rooms

Online travel agencies and portals are popular because they offer convenience. You can visit a single website and compare results from various rental car companies.

However, there is a trade-off to consider.

When you see a lower price on an online travel agency or credit card portal than a rental car website, you usually won't receive any elite benefits associated with a rental car loyalty program . This is because most online travel agencies and credit card portals do not provide an option to add your rental car loyalty number to the reservation (though there are exceptions ). Even if they do, the rental agency often doesn't honor the associated benefits, such as skipping the line during car pickup.

In such situations, you must decide whether booking the lower price or receiving perks is more important. Ultimately, the decision may come down to the price difference.

Will the hotel give preference to guests who booked directly?

travel agent booking hotel rooms

In short: Possibly. You may not receive the same perks when booking a hotel through a third-party website instead of directly with the hotel.

For example, a TPG staffer faced this issue while staying at Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort in Orlando. He booked through the Capital One Travel portal to earn miles with his Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card (see rates and fees ). However, this meant he couldn't use the mobile check-in feature and had to wait in a long line at check-in. Additionally, he was assigned a less desirable room near noisy areas like the service elevators and housekeeping storage.

If you're not a light sleeper or prefer in-person check-in, these drawbacks may not be significant concerns. Nevertheless, it's worth considering these factors when deciding how to make your hotel booking.

Can you get free perks from hotels booked via a portal?

travel agent booking hotel rooms

Why not add free perks to the deal if you're paying cash for a hotel?

With American Express, you can enjoy extras by booking through Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection . However, you will not get these benefits if you book directly with the hotel.

Capital One and Chase offer similar programs through the Capital One Premier Collection , Capital One Lifestyle Collection and Chase Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection . When you book with these programs, you can expect to receive perks that could include free breakfast, a welcome gift or space-available room upgrades.

Will you get free nights added to a hotel booking?

travel agent booking hotel rooms

Adding free nights to your hotel reservation could be a huge differentiator.

For example, the Citi Prestige® Card offers a fourth-night-free benefit . But there are some restrictions and nuances to using this benefit. There's a limit of two uses per year and you must book through Citi ThankYou Rewards to receive it.

The information for the Citi Prestige has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Likewise, you can get a fourth or fifth night free when redeeming select types of hotel points for award stays — which could lead you to book directly with a hotel program.

Related: Can I mix hotel points and free night certificates to get a 4th or 5th night free?

What if something goes wrong with your flights?

travel agent booking hotel rooms

Unlike rental car and hotel reservations made through portals and online travel agencies, flights booked outside airline websites will still earn you miles and frequent flyer status credits.

This is good news, but it gets even better when you realize you can stack rewards by booking flights through online travel agencies . This means you can earn points on your credit card, miles from flying, shopping portal bonuses and rewards from the loyalty programs of online travel agencies .

However, there is a potential issue to consider if unexpected problems arise before or during your trip.

When you book directly with an airline and your flight gets canceled, you can deal with the carrier directly. They will reimburse or rebook you based on their change or cancellation policy . However, this may not be the case for portals and online travel agency bookings.

If the airline cancels your flight due to bad weather, they may instruct you to purchase new tickets for a later flight through your credit card portal or the online travel agency you booked with. If you have a schedule change or want to adjust your reservation, you often need to go back to the third-party site for support instead of contacting the airline directly. This can be a significant drawback when booking flights through a third-party option, particularly if your trip carries a high risk of weather-related issues or you think there's a possibility that you'll need to change (or cancel) your trip.

Related: Flight canceled or delayed? Here's what to do

Bottom line

Having various options for booking trips is great. You can compare prices and use your points and miles effectively. You might even get extra perks that other websites don't offer.

However, having too many options can be overwhelming and confusing.

To simplify the process, consider these nine questions before making your booking. By considering factors such as your travel credits and how the booking will impact your elite status strategy, you can avoid surprises during your trip and make the most out of the rewards you earn.

A Travel Agent Tells Us The Best Tip For Booking A Hotel Room

D ecisions, decisions. That's what it all comes down to when you're planning a vacation. From choosing your destination to budgeting, it can be all-consuming. Arguably, one of the most imperative parts of this process is finding accommodations. While Airbnb once reigned supreme, Which? data showed hotels are becoming an affordable option for travelers. But with countless hotel booking sites like Expedia, Trivago, Kayak, and more, it can be challenging to know the right one to use. This, coupled with figuring out the best time to book your hotel , can overwhelm consumers.

Enter Victoria Fricke, an Indiana-based travel agent with Vic's Vacations . Fricke, who previously spoke to Explore about  fake AI-generated travel guides , spoke exclusively to us again and shared some insight to consider when booking a hotel room and one of her best tips. Although it might be surprising news to many, Fricke says that price-wise, different hotel booking sites will offer similar deals but said, "Pricing is something that fluctuates daily based on availability."

She goes on to explain, "Booking engines and websites bank on one thing: consumers returning for ease. Most consumers won't compare between multiple sites — they go to one, look over options, and book. I would advise doing just the opposite. Compare!" As for the best tip, Fricke says that if consumers want more bang for their buck, they should ditch hotel booking sites altogether and book directly with a hotel.

The Perks Of Booking Directly With A Hotel

While Booking directly with a hotel may sound like an old-fashioned idea, Victoria Fricke told us that unless you have a travel advisor, booking directly is the way to go. She notes that it has its advantages over popular hotel booking sites. "Your bedding is guaranteed. When you use a third-party site, your selection on that website doesn't always transfer to the hotel." Plus, booking directly with a hotel usually means there will be more flexibility with cancellation policies, according to Fricke.

Furthermore, there's less chance of surprise fees or commission rates. Additionally, there are also loyalty programs to consider. Fricke said, "Remember, if you are someone focused on points, hotels, and airlines prefer you booking direct and will reward you for doing so, putting you higher on upgrade lists!"

But how does Fricke think you should go about booking your hotel? She provides a scenario to explain. "Let's take a trip to Chicago, for example. The average consumer will go to Priceline — compare location/pricing/amenities and book. Maybe they select a Hilton property."

"The next step I advise clients to do would be to go to Hilton's website directly and compare that same room. If the room is the same price — book direct. If it is more: pick up the phone and call Hilton... they will price match." In short, you can use hotel booking sites to your advantage even if you decide against booking accommodations through them.

10 Tips For Getting A Late Checkout At A Regent Hotel

Late checkout is incredibly useful at the end of your stay at a Regent hotel, or at any other IHG hotel. Late checkouts at InterContinental hotels and at Kimpton hotels, which are both luxury brands, can really improve your stay especially when faced with a late flight departure.

Usually, checkout is around 12:00 or 1:00 pm, and check-in is around 3:00 pm. Therefore, late checkout is likely anytime from 1:00 pm usually to 4:00 pm.

While evening checkouts are rare, our luxury travel concierge agents have occasionally secured crazily late checkouts for our clients, so it’s always worth asking as our agents are delighted to help.

Our luxury travel concierge agents specialize in prioritized late checkout, prioritized room upgrades, free breakfast for two, and more at all luxury hotels around the world for all our clients, so get in touch if you could use any of these perks. You also get all your usual loyalty points and perks when you book with us.

Here are 10 tips for getting a late checkout at a Regent hotel:

We believe the Regent level of luxury is akin to what guests anticipate from Four Seasons hotels. While Four Seasons typically excels in service, Regent hotels offer comparable luxury and presentation, ensuring an unforgettable stay.

10 Best Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts In The World

10 Best Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts In The World

The best Four Seasons hotels & resorts in the world include Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, Four Seasons Lanai and Four Seasons Resort Hualalai in Hawaii, Four Seasons Surf Club on Miami Beach, Four Seasons Costa Rica, Four Seasons Los Cabos At Costa Palmas, Four Seasons Palm Beach, and Four Seasons Hampshire. To be honest, we wanted to include several other properties in this article, but we would have to stray into the realms of the top 20 or 30 or even top 100 properties to include all our favorite Four Seasons hotels. There are just so many great ones!

Read on for our brilliant tips to increase your chances of getting a late checkout at an Regent Hotel:

1. Book Via An Agent That Specializes In Late Checkout

When you book into the best Regent hotels, book via an agent specializing in late checkout. Book your next stay via our luxury travel concierge , and we can usually get you prioritized late checkout, free breakfast, hotel credit, welcome amenities, and more at all the best luxury hotels.

Some InterContinental hotels guarantee late checkout if you book via our luxury travel concierge, so feel free to query whether your Regent hotel offers this guarantee when booking with our agents.

Securing complimentary late checkout grants you extended access to your room and the hotel’s amenities, providing a sanctuary for you to escape to. This perk proves immensely valuable, particularly when facing a late flight departure, so do make use of the services of a specialized agent who can help make this happen.

Our luxury agents have direct contact with management at luxury hotels, and they can request and try to confirm late checkout for you. Additionally, certain luxury hotels we collaborate with proactively confirm late checkout upon booking.

Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel Pool

In contrast, bookings made through large, automated online travel agencies usually receive lower priority for such benefits. Opting to book through our agents or directly with the hotel enhances the likelihood of receiving late checkout, as these bookings typically yield higher profits for the hotel, thereby incentivizing them to accommodate requests more readily.

2. Book Club Lounge Access

Club lounges offer complimentary food and drink in an exclusive, luxurious lounge area. At Regent hotels, you can only access the lounge if you have paid for club access.

If you book the InterContinental in Paris, London, or New York Barclay hotel via our luxury travel concierge , you will get free club lounge access even when you book a standard room. We reviewed the club lounge at the InterContinental London , which is insanely good.

While we don’t offer free club lounges at Regent hotels, paying for club lounge access is a great alternative if you can only get a normal checkout time ie 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm, as you will be able to use the club lounge until you leave, however late this is. You could book a club room for your entire stay or just book it for the last night.

We’ve reviewed the best hotel club lounges in the world , which goes beyond just Regent club lounges.

10 Best Executive Club Lounges In The World

10 Best Executive Club Lounges In The World

Which are the best executive club lounges in the world across America, Asia, Europe, and Australia? We think the hotels with the best executive club lounges are: Intercontinental Park Lane Four Seasons Maui The Ritz-Carlton Maui Four Seasons Sydney The Ritz-Carlton New York, Nomad Langham London The Fullerton Singapore Mandarin Oriental Dubai Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel Read on to find out why we consider these hotel club lounges to be the best.

Access to these executive club lounges offers a serene sanctuary to relax and indulge in complimentary refreshments. Renowned for their exceptional service, these lounges provide a comparable experience to a private retreat, ideal for guests awaiting their flights at the hotel. With access available until late into the evening, they prove invaluable for extended stays, and many also offer convenient shower facilities for a quick refreshment.

Club lounge access is the break-glass solution if faced with a late flight. If the hotel cannot accommodate an extended checkout, there’s no better option than relaxing in these executive areas for as long as necessary.

One Regent hotel with a brilliant club lounge is the Regent Hong Kong. This lounge features in our best club lounges in Hong Kong , and we have reviewed this club lounge in more detail so you know what you are getting if you decide to go down this route.

Review: Regent Hong Kong Club Lounge

Review: Regent Hong Kong Club Lounge

Recommended Post In "Reviews"

The Regent Hong Kong hosts one of the best club lounges in Hong Kong. This Regent Club is an exclusive private sanctuary. Beautifully designed spaces are brought to life through moments of decadence that punctuate each day. While this description might sound like a lot of flouncy words, our experience of Regent Hotels is undoubtedly decadent. The best Regent hotels are right up there with the best Four Seasons hotels and offer ultra-luxury.

3. Ask As Soon As Possible

Asking for a late checkout at a hotel is best done right after booking. Some hotels may be more flexible if they know your preferences in advance. Whether through your agent or by contacting the hotel directly, it’s best to request late checkout as soon as possible, allowing the hotel ample time to adjust room allocations and accommodate your request.

InterContinental Vs. Regent Vs. Kimpton

InterContinental Vs. Regent Vs. Kimpton

Which hotel brand is best, InterContinental Vs. Regent Vs. Kimpton? The choice between these three hotel brands varies between individual hotels within each brand. As a general rule, InterContinental was one of the original luxury business hotels and remains a luxury, if slightly corporate, hotel brand that is present in most major cities. InterContinental hotels are typified by large modern buildings with a generic interior finish and lots of business facilities. Some InterContinental hotels, like the InterContinental Geneva, have very good pools and leisure facilities.

4. Join the IHG loyalty scheme

Members of hotel loyalty programs often receive perks and prioritized benefits such as late checkout privileges. Joining these programs can increase your chances of getting a late checkout.

With Regent, the loyalty scheme is IHG, and the higher your membership tier, the more priority the hotel will likely give to your late checkout. You also get to collect points that you can use towards future stays.

Regent hotels are part of the IHG rewards schemes and IHG has at least two reward schemes: IHG One Rewards is free to join and gives you access to exclusive member rates. It is relevant to all IHG brands, including Regent and Kimpton. You can earn points for reward nights, get free Wi-Fi, and have a better chance of getting late checkout. Plus, you get perks like bonus points, reward night discounts, welcome amenities, and milestone rewards.

IHG also has an InterContinental Ambassador, which is relevant only to InterContinental hotels and not Regent hotels. It is a loyalty program that delivers benefits exclusively at InterContinental Hotels & Resorts properties worldwide.

The high value benefit of InterContinental Ambassador is probably its free weekend night certificate, but you cannot use an Ambassador free night certificate at Regent hotels .

Can Ambassador Weekend Night Certificates Be Used At Regent Hotels?

Can Ambassador Weekend Night Certificates Be Used At Regent Hotels?

Having recently stayed at the gorgeous Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, I asked the reservations team the question: Can InterContinental Ambassador Weekend Night Certificates be used at Regent Hotels? The answer is no, very sadly, as the Regent Cannes is very much worth a visit and is easily the best luxury hotel in Cannes. It's worth mentioning at this point that you can book both these brands, IHG and Regent, via our luxury travel concierge to get extra free benefits such as complimentary breakfast, hotel credit, room upgrades, and your usual IHG rewards.

5. Stay Regularly

Returning guests at a hotel often receive prioritized benefits. This may include an upgraded room, and a welcome amenity, and the hotel will endeavor to accommodate late checkout by rearranging room assignments for your convenience.

6. Give Reception Details On Why You Need Late Checkout

If you require late checkout due to a late flight departure, or for a special occasion, or if you want to enjoy the pool for the remainder of your stay, sharing these details with the staff may assist them in prioritizing and justifying your late checkout to the management. This communication can increase the likelihood that your request will be granted.

7. Offer to Pay

Some hotels charge an additional fee for a late checkout or an extra half-day. Ask about this. You may feel it’s worthwhile paying a little more to stay until the end of the day on the last day of your stay.

We recently secured an incredibly early check-in for one of our clients at the Four Seasons Abu Dhabi for half the price of a full night’s stay. The client was thrilled. This can happen across any hotel brand. The first step is to ask!

8. Stay In Low Season

Negotiating late checkout becomes nearly impossible if the hotel is fully booked the night following your checkout. Conversely, if occupancy levels are low, your chances significantly improve. Consider scheduling your stay outside of peak seasons to increase the chances of a late checkout perk.

9. Book A Hotel Where You Can Use The Hotel Facilities After Checkout

If you cannot secure a late checkout, most luxury hotels allow you to continue using all their facilities until your departure. They typically provide a communal room or changing area for guests to use and shower.

This enables you to enjoy the hotel’s amenities like the pool, lounges, gym, and beach, even without a booked room. Afterward, you can freshen up in the hotel’s communal changing rooms before heading to the airport. Our booking agents can verify if the Regent you’re interested in offers this option.

10. Follow Up With Staff On The Day Of Checkout

If you’re unable to secure a late checkout in advance, it’s worth following up with the front desk staff on the day of checkout. Sometimes, last-minute accommodations can be arranged or adjustments made to free up a room for you to use until the early evening.

Overall, Copilot is an indispensable tool for travel agencies who want to demonstrate their professionalism and trust by providing a user-friendly client portal that your customers will love.

Copilot notable features

  • Automated onboarding workflows that help you collect important client details and cut down on your admin work.
  • Integrated payment portals that offer clients different payment options, including subscription payments.
  • White-label client portals that centralize communications share important travel documents and keep everyone up to date about how travel plans are progressing.

3. WeTravel

WeTravel

  • Best for: Payments for group travel
  • Pricing: Starts at $79 per month, with custom plans for travel agents

WeTravel started out life as a platform to help simplify payments for group tour operators. However, it has expanded over the years and now it is used by travel agents to solve the complexity of group travel.

The big idea with WeTravel is that you can easily generate a slick, professional page for group trips. Your page means you can centralize everything you need for the trip and include photos, itinerary descriptions, and traveler information.

However, perhaps the best feature is the secure payment portal that solves the messy problem of taking payment from a wide array of travelers. Clients can pay by card or electronic transfers, and you can even offer payment plans.

WeTravel’s easy-to-use interface and superb drag-and-drop inventory creation are excellent features for small travel agencies who want to provide high-quality and polished customer experiences. Their processing fees are just 1%, which is very competitive.

You can also integrate WeTravel with marketing tools to help you capture leads and send out promotional materials for various trips. However, WeTravel might not work for very complex itineraries. Additionally, it’s mobile-friendliness does need a little work. But don’t let that put you off, because WeTravel is a great tool to have in your arsenal.

4. Avochato

Avochato

  • Best for: Text message notifications
  • Pricing: Starts at $19 per month, with custom plans for busier agencies

Keeping clients up to date on travel information is a big challenge these days. One of the best ways to ensure that clients have the information they need is by SMS because the technology has incredible open rates of around 98% .

Avochato is an SMS business communication platform. While it’s not solely focused on travel agencies, it’s used widely across the industry to provide the swift and personalized communication that clients treasure.

Conversational customer support is a big advantage in relationship businesses like travel. Avochato helps teams deal with booking inquiries, trip updates, promotional messages, and even gathering feedback. It’s very intuitive, and if you’re a growing agency, it’s more than capable of scaling with you.

However, WeTravel is not perfect. For starters, it’s very US-focused, which might not work for every travel agency. What’s more, it’s a little pricer than some other SMS solutions out there. Finally, while it does provide support for video and images via MMS, the communications might lack the immersion of a client portal or email communication. That said, it’s a great tool for communicating critical information that won’t get lost in your client’s inbox.

Avochato notable features

  • Shared team inbox that allows multiple agency staff to communicate with clients
  • Excellent integration with CRM tools
  • Broadcast or schedule SMS messages for announcements, reminders, offers, and trip details

BizAway travel booking software

  • Best for: Business travel bookings
  • Pricing: Starts at $4 per booking

BizAway launched in Stockholm, Sweden, almost a decade ago with the goal of streamlining the travel process for businesses and agencies. Since then, it has expanded internationally, but it is still primarily focused on the European market.

Some of the problems that BizAway solves include fragmented, time-consuming, and frustrating booking experiences across multiple platforms. It’s also adept at expense management and compliance with business travel policies, with a particular focus on approvals and policy control.

While BizAway is the best tool for European travel, that’s not to say that it won’t work for different regions. Indeed, they have a huge inventory for worldwide travel thanks to widespread access to various travel suppliers.

The booking interface is gorgeous and makes it simple to find and secure hotels, car rentals, trains, and more from inside the platform. It also integrates well with CRM, HR, and accounting software, making it a good choice for both travel agencies and corporations.

Overall, BizAway makes our list of the best travel agency software because it can save you money on travel packages. For travel agencies, any tool that helps you achieve better margins is worth having in your software stack. Sure, it might lack some of the deep customization options of its competitors, but make no mistake, this is a solid solution that makes travel and booking management far easier.

BizAway notable features

  • Superb user interface booking system
  • Excellent and in-depth reporting tools
  • Superb expense management and policy control tools for corporate travel clients

Webflow for agencies

  • Best for: Building a travel agency website
  • Pricing: Starts at $14 per month, but busy agencies will need higher-tier plans

Webflow is a visual website building site with CMS and hosting capabilities. It allows businesses of every type to build professional-looking custom websites that are ready for the modern age.

While there are many solid template-based website builders out there, Webflow is a winning choice for travel agencies for a number of reasons. Firstly, travel marketing is heavily reliant on images. Webflow helps you sell experiences because it handles visuals superbly. Additionally, it offers great responsive design, which is essential for clients who browse for trips via mobile. Finally, Webflow integrates well with third-party custom booking systems.

Weflow is flexible enough to suit a wide variety of travel agencies, from small operators to luxury travel websites. It’s very easy to build a site that will totally wow your clients without knowing any code. This feature will save you money on maintenance and getting your site built. When you add in Webflow’s hosting, these advantages alone are enough to justify its monthly price.

Another thing to consider is that Webflow builds fast-loading websites. Website loading speed is important to clients, and it’s also an SEO ranking factor. But that’s not the only way that Webflow will help with SEO. It also comes with SEO tools that help you structure your site so that you maximize visibility and promote organic site visits.

Overall, Webflow is a powerful web design tool that lets you build superb, visually appealing websites. A well-designed, secure, and fast-loading website is the first step on the path towards building trust and credibility, which are essential in the travel industry.

Webflow notable features

  • Customizable design that helps you create a unique and visually striking website without coding
  • Build in CMS to manage your destinations, tours, packages, blog content, and more

Front

  • Best for: Customer operations
  • Pricing: Starts at $59 per month

Since Front was launched in 2013, it has become widely adopted by travel agencies and other businesses as a way to enhance collaboration and customer communication via shared email inboxes.

Travel planning involves a lot of communication with hotels, car rentals, tour operators, trains and buses, and so on. Front helps you centralize these communications so that nothing is missed or forgotten.

The front really comes into its own for travel agencies, thanks to a few core features. Firstly, it’s a great way to collaborate on travel inventories because members can leave notes, assign tasks, and trash out the finer details, all in one place. What’s more, the booking tools are great for group planning.

If you’re a very small travel agency, some of the features might feel excessive. However, for busy teams, you can customize Front around your workflows, benefit from data & analytics tools, and get real-time visibility into which tasks your agents are handling, and which have fallen through the cracks.

Overall, Front ensures that your back office is streamlined, efficient, and on top of everything.

Front notable features

  • Shared inboxes are a great way to provide much-needed visibility and oversight into disparate travel communications
  • Superb templates for providing travel updates
  • Excellent integration with CRM and booking tools

  • Summer travel trends 2024: More crowds and expensive airfare, hotels

Travel Troubleshooter

Summer travel in 2024 will be “expensive in every way,” says Katharine Nohr. And she should know.

She’s planning a two-week adventure to Europe in June, which starts with a marathon flight from Honolulu to Zurich, where she’ll speak at a conference. Then she’s hopscotching across Europe — to Vienna, then on to the Olympics. She’s made plans to be in Nantes, France, to watch a soccer game, Lille for basketball and Paris for gymnastics, boxing and swimming.

All told, it’ll set her back five figures despite her best efforts, which include flying economy class and staying in the lowest-priced hotels.

“The trip is pricey, even with my efforts to economize,” says Nohr, an attorney from Honolulu. “But it’s a once-in-my-life adventure.”

Summer travelers are pursuing exciting, expensive vacations

Nohr is part of a wave of travelers making big plans for this summer. The itineraries are exciting — and expensive.

Pretty much every barometer of travel intent is up for the summer travel season. Inflation and unemployment are low, and consumer sentiment and curiosity are high, fueling an unprecedented interest in travel during the summer of 2024.

“Bookings are rising,” says Susan Sherren, who runs Couture Trips , a travel agency. “Unfortunately, hotel, tour and air prices are not falling. So, if you plan on hitting the road this summer, make sure you are willing to splash some cash.”

Travel companies say they’re overwhelmed with summer reservations.

“The travel economy is booming,” says Joe Ialacci, owner of Yacht Hampton Boating Club , a company that rents yachts in Sag Harbor, N.Y. He’s seeing a 40% increase in rentals this summer compared to last year as Americans shift some of their vacation dollars to domestic destinations.

Prices aren’t the only thing trending higher. People’s expectations for their summer vacation are also higher than at any time since the pandemic, says Sangeeta Sadarangani, CEO of Crossing , a multinational travel agency headquartered in London.

“They’re embracing the unknown,” she says.

And one of the great unknowns is travel prices. How much higher will they be?

What will prices be like this summer?

It depends on where you’re going. There’s good news if you’re traveling within the U.S.: Flights and hotels are a little less expensive than last summer. But they’re rising elsewhere. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Airfares are mixed. Domestic round-trip airfares for summer are averaging $325 per ticket, which is down 5% from last year, according to the travel platform Hopper. Flights to Europe are cheaper, too. They’ve fallen 12% from last year to $1,012. But flights to South America are up 4% and flights to Canada have risen 5%. You’ll pay an average of $759 to fly south of the border and $430 to head north.
  • U.S. hotel rates are down. Domestically, they’re down 7% to an average of $304 per night. Internationally, they’re up 2% to $314 per night, according to Kayak.
  • Car rental prices are rising. Average domestic car rental rates are up 10% this summer to $113 per day, according to Kayak. Last summer, rates dropped 14% after the car rental shortage ended. Internationally, rates are up 3% to an average of $88 per day.

But you can avoid the high prices with a little strategic planning, experts say.

What to avoid this summer

American travelers are becoming more predictable in their summer vacation choices, says John Lovell, president of Travel Leaders Group . Immediately after the pandemic, they embarked on “revenge” vacations to far-flung locations. Now they’re returning to more conventional vacations.

“We continue to see U.S. travelers heading back to the more traditional locations across Europe this year, like London, Rome, Athens and Munich,” he says.

There are places that will be exceptionally busy — and exceptionally pricey — this summer.

Paris during the Olympics. The Olympic Games are taking place in Paris this summer. Rooms are more than double the normal rates. which is typical of the Olympics. Paris is already crowded with tourists during the summer, so you can probably imagine what it will be like with the Olympics. Zut, alors!

Taylor Swift is touring Europe this summer. Prices will be higher and the crowds will be denser. “If you aren’t planning to attend one of her concerts, I recommend planning around those European cities when she’s there,” says Betsy Ball, co-founder of Euro Travel Coach . (Want to know if your schedules overlap? Here’s Taylor Swift’s concert schedule .)

Other big summer events. Even if you steer clear of Taylor and the Olympics, you’re still not out of the woods. There’s the UEFA Euro 2024 football tournament in Germany in June. There’s the Tour de France in July, which begins in Florence and finishes in Nice. France is also hosting the Paralympic Games in August and September, which will take place in Paris, Nice, Marseille and Bordeaux.

When is the best time to book a 2024 summer vacation?

Since this is going to be a busy one, the sooner you book, the better. Hopper recommends buying your airfare two to three months before your departure for domestic flights, and for international — well, it’s probably too late to get that rock-bottom fare. If you’re reading this in April, you can still find something for late August or early September, according to its airfare experts.

As always, you can save money by booking a flight for midweek instead of on the weekend — and, of course, by keeping far, far away from the big travel holidays like Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day.

Also, if you’re going overseas, remember their holiday calendar is different. For example, half of Europe shuts down during August for summer vacation. It’s worth a lookup, otherwise, you could face some real disappointments.

Strategies for traveling better during the summer

One tactic that consistently works is splitting your getaway into two sections. Take that required summer vacation with your family somewhere less expensive during the high season. Then, wait until shoulder season for the big trip.

That’s what Ross Copas, a retired electrician from Tweed, Canada, is doing during the summer of 2024. It’s a road trip across the northern U.S. by motorcycle — New York to Washington state, and then back east through Canada.

Then he’s heading to Amsterdam in September for a 23-day European river cruise. He says the late summer getaway will be costly, but he doubts fares will fall anytime soon. “So price be damned,” he adds.

Actually, that’s pretty smart. I took the same cruise he’s planning on Viking River Cruises many years ago, and it was worth every penny.

With hotel rates rising in some places this summer, this is the right time to consider alternatives. Monica Fish, a writer from Glen Rock, N.J., is headed to Ireland to catch one of Swift’s performances. She says hotel rooms in Dublin are overpriced if they’re even available. But Fish found an affordable vacation rental.

“We just had to book it farther in advance than we normally would,” she says.

Go ahead, follow the crowds this summer

I think it’s fine to follow the crowds this summer. I’ll be doing it. I’m planning to rent an apartment for a month in Switzerland with Blueground, a long-term apartment rental company. Then I’m crashing on a friend’s sofa in Spain, then heading to Sweden to see other friends and visiting my brother in Finland. Yes, travel writers know people everywhere .

But don’t follow the crowds off a cliff. There are places even I won’t go. I might take the four-hour train trip from Zurich to Paris in June to check out my favorite patisseries, but I wouldn’t go anywhere near the City of Lights during the Summer Games in July unless I made a reservation a long time ago.

And Taylor Swift? Puh-leeze. I’m more of a jazz guy.

Podcast - April Hospitality Review: Challenges in Service & Delivery, IHTF 2024 and Booking.com's Cancelled Sustainability Programme

Navigating the Future of Hospitality: Insights from Industry Leaders

In our April 2024 edition, we had the pleasure of hosting a panel of experts who shared their invaluable insights on the pressing issues facing our industry today. From sustainability to marketing strategies and the digital transformation of hotels, we covered it all. Let's dive into the key takeaways from this enlightening discussion.

Embracing Sustainability: More Than Just a Buzzword

Sustainability is no longer a concept; it's a critical component of modern hospitality. Jonny Siberry from Sarova Hotel Group shed light on their "green key" initiative, which is revolutionizing their operations to meet sustainability goals. But it's not just about the environment; it's also about the bottom line. Daniel Simmons, CCO of HotelREZ Hotels & Resorts, highlighted how sustainability certifications can lead to better rates and a larger market share, particularly from eco-conscious corporate clients.

Thibault Catala, CEO of Catala Consulting, pointed out the direct impact of sustainability accreditation on pricing and guest decision-making. In today's market, guests are more informed and selective, often choosing accommodations that align with their values. This is where the marketing prowess of online travel agents can be turned to a hotel's advantage, leveraging their reach to highlight sustainable practices and attract a broader audience.

The Online Travel Agent Conundrum: Competing with Giants

The marketing muscle of online travel agents (OTAs) like Expedia Group, Booking Holdings, Airbnb, and Trip.com is formidable. Our panel discussed the challenges hoteliers face in competing with these global entities. The key is to optimize our own marketing channels while also making the most of our presence on meta search platforms. The acquisition of CW by Amex GBT was also a hot topic, as it has significant implications for corporate and business travel.

Service & Delivery: Rebranding Hospitality

Harpreet Singh Saluja from AG Hotels shared his experience of the ongoing evolution of hospitality service and delivery among changing expectations and staff recruitment. Looking at some of the key aspects to retain talent and find the right skills.

We explored the evolving guest expectations and the necessity for rebranding the hospitality sector. Our goal is to promote it as a rewarding career choice, attracting fresh talent and retaining seasoned professionals. Leadership, training, and development programs are crucial in addressing these challenges, ensuring that our workforce is equipped to deliver exceptional service.

The Digital Leap: Technology Transforming Hotels

At IHTF, of which we at Travel Market Life are media partners, we’ll hear from some of the sponsors including Carlos Calvo of Proposales, Carsten Wernet of SIHOT, and Philip von Ditfurth from Apaleo, emphasizing the efficiency gains from new tools. They also stressed the importance of industry events like the International Hotel Technology Forum (IHTF) for networking and learning from peers.

The Marquesa

The Florida Keys are a chain of over 1,700 islands off the southern tip of Florida known for their gorgeous water, rich marine life, and quirky, fun-loving attitude. They’re broken up into five regions (or “Keys”) — Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, the Lower Keys, and Key West. Of all the Keys, Key West is the most well known. It’s also the farthest south and home to the southernmost point in the United States. In fact, Key West is so far south that it’s actually much closer to Cuba than it is to Miami.

It’s no secret that most Floridians don’t consider themselves to be part of the South — but growing up in Florida, I found it amusing that folks in the Florida Keys usually consider themselves separate from mainland Florida, too. However, once I started visiting and learning more about the Keys, particularly Key West, it was obvious that the Florida Keys have a culture all their own.

Don’t make the mistake of judging this tiny four-mile island by its size — Key West is a full-fledged destination packed with history, art, food, drink, wildlife, water sports, and culture. Key West is home to the weird and wonderful. This is where you come to sample real key lime pie and conch fritters, where the weather report calls for falling frozen iguanas, and where cats with six toes, life-changing sunsets, and pastel mansions over 150 years old are all in a day’s work.

But where to stay while you’re there? The options in Key West can be daunting, but luckily, I, along with Travel + Leisure editors, have been there many times and have scouted some of the best places to stay on the island. We’ve selected a good mix of hotels for every type of traveler, based on our personal experience, recent World’s Best Awards winners, and editor favorites. Read on to find our top picks.

Sunset Key Cottages

Also available to book at Tripadvisor.com

The private island location adds an extra dose of privacy and solitude that’s still close to the action of Old Town.

The resort fee is one of the heftiest we’ve seen.

If you’re looking for an island getaway from your island getaway, Sunset Key Cottages offers 40 upscale beachy cottages with up to four bedrooms, superior service, and a relaxing residential island location just a 7-minute boat journey from Old Town. This hotel earned a spot on our World’s Best Awards list in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

While the setting can be quite romantic, Sunset Key Cottages is a family-friendly and dog-friendly property. Cottages range between 700 to 2,500 square feet, so there’s room to spread out, and available activities run the gamut from sports courts and spa treatments to pool time and parasailing. Travelers who take advantage of all the property freebies like daily spirits tastings, fishing off the pier, use of the sports courts, poolside popsicles, and daily room-delivered breakfast (just to name a few) will get the most value out of the hefty daily resort fee.

The Details:

  • Neighborhood: Sunset Key
  • Distance From Airport: 4 miles
  • Rates: From $850
  • Resort Fee: $250 per day
  • Parking: Yes; $30 per day self-parking, $40 per day valet
  • Pet Policy: $100 per night for up to two dogs weighing 30 pounds or less.

The Perry Hotel & Marina Key West

Also available to book at Expedia.com

This hotel features direct waterfront views, outdoor showers, and pet-friendly rooms.

The marina location is about five miles from the main drag of Duval Street.

The Perry Hotel & Marina Key West made our World’s Best Awards list in 2021. We love its Stock Island Marina location, particularly for travelers arriving by boat or looking for a more relaxed Key West experience not centered around the usual Duval Street haunts. This 100-room boutique hotel is somewhat of a Key West outlier, swapping out the island’s common Old Florida colors and aesthetic for an unexpected and sleek modern-industrial look featuring dark wood, grays, and iron accents throughout. Six room types offer options for a glittering marina and pool or lush mangrove view, open-air showers, and ADA accessibility. Flatscreen TVs, coffeemakers, unstocked mini-fridges, and private balconies come standard.

The daily resort fee covers expected on-site amenities like the pool, a great concierge service, and use of the fitness room, as well as convenient and fun extras like a very punctual hourly shuttle service to and from Old Town (travel time is about 20 minutes each way), welcome tipple of champagne, a daily drink, an EV charging station, and Saturday group yoga classes. Traveling with your pup? The dog-friendly pet policy has no weight restrictions, and there are two dog parks nearby.

  • Neighborhood: Stock Island
  • Distance From Airport: 3 miles from EYW
  • Nearby Attractions: Stock Island Marina, Key West Golf Course, Robbie's of Key West, Hogfish Bar & Grill
  • Accessibility: Wheelchair-accessible parking, braille signage, assisted listening devices, wheelchair-accessible pathways, accessible rooms
  • Rates: From $152
  • Resort Fee: $50
  • Parking: Yes; self-parking $27 per night
  • Pet Policy: $75 per night for one dog, $25 for an additional dog with a maximum of 2 dogs.

Santa Maria Suites

Santa Maria Suites Resort

Also available to book at Hotels.com

While it doesn’t have all the typical hotel amenities, there are several thoughtful details included in your stay.

The apartment-hotel style of this property may not be for everyone.

Santa Maria Suites is an all-suite boutique property with large two-bedroom suites clocking in at over 900 square feet. The contemporary apartment-style units have gourmet kitchens with high-end appliances and luxe granite countertops, separate bedrooms, and a furnished patio or balcony with pool or garden views.

Tropical garden grounds give guests a relaxing place to get away and decompress after a day out sightseeing. We love the attention to detail this small hotel brings to the table. For example, relaxing by the two heated pools is accompanied by ABV-free frozen drinks, chilled towels, cold bottled water, and fresh fruit. There’s also a free nightly happy hour, all-day muffins and ice cream, and access to beach facilities at the Southernmost Beach. This isn’t a typical hotel with multiple public spaces, but there is a restaurant serving Latin cuisine and a workout area with a few machines available for use.

  • Neighborhood: Upper Duval
  • Distance From Airport: 3.2 miles from EYW
  • Nearby Attractions: Duval Street, Mallory Square, Southernmost Point, Hemingway House and Museum, Key West Lighthouse, Higgs Beach, Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park, South Beach
  • Accessibility: Wheelchair-accessible parking, pathways, and suites; ramps and pool entrance; visual and auditory alarms
  • Rates: From $315
  • Resort Fee: $40 per day
  • Parking: Yes; self-parking $20 per night
  • Pet Policy: Not allowed

Gardens Hotel

The hotel has several eco-friendly practices and awards, and there’s no resort fee.

The colonial-style decor can feel dated and there’s no on-site restaurant.

You can’t name your hotel after your gardens and not deliver. The Gardens Hotel may be located smack in the middle of Old Town, but this small, ultra-boutique hotel manages to deliver a beautiful sanctuary space filled with plants, birds, water features, and tranquility. Plus, they go the extra mile with eco-friendly practices from recycling to heating water with solar panels.

The atmosphere here is social in public spaces, and guests often chat over drinks at the pool or between songs at the Sunday night jazz performances. Rooms are spacious, but feature colonial-style furniture and decor which can feel dated, especially when compared to nearby competitors. But do those hotels have a self-serve wine gallery featuring over 30 wines from around the world? Probably not. Despite having two pools, free Wi-Fi, a stellar hot breakfast, prime location, and concierge services, Gardens Hotel remains resort fee-free.

  • Neighborhood: Old Town Historic District
  • Distance From Airport: 3.8 miles from EYW
  • Nearby Attractions: Duval Street, Mallory Square, Hemingway House and Museum, Key West Lighthouse, Key West Dog Beach, Green Parrot Bar
  • Accessibility: One ADA-accessible room with a ramp, wheelchair-accessible parking, pool lift, audio and visual alarms

Ocean Key Resort & Spa

This is the ultimate spot for sunsets and anyone who wants to be at the center of the action on Key West.

There is no direct beach access.

This 2022 World’s Best Award-winning resort has an enviable location right on the water at the tippy-top of Duval Street, giving guests incredible views of the Gulf of Mexico and easy-as-pie access to the vibrancy of Key West’s main action. Ocean Key Resort & Spa has 100 rooms starting out at 300 square feet and features bright and boisterous contemporary decor, tiled floors, teak wood accents, private balconies, minibars, and stone bathrooms.

Upgrades to suites will double, triple, and quadruple your room size, but most in-room amenities stay the same. Whether you’re scoping out the sunset from your room, the pool, or the legendary Sunset Pier, you’ll have one of the best views on the island. However, these memorable waterfront views don’t have a beach, only seawall. Instead, guests soak up the sun at the pool. Food, drinks, and entertainment are available at the poolside bar, rooftop restaurant, and the Sunset Pier.

  • Distance From Airport: 4 miles from EYW
  • Nearby Attractions: Key West Aquarium, Hemingway House and Museum, Duval Street, Mallory Square
  • Accessibility: ADA-accessible rooms, pool lift, meeting spaces, public spaces, pathways, and elevators; braille signage in elevators, audio and visual alarms, TTY
  • Rates: From $210
  • Resort Fee: $56 per day (plus tax)
  • Parking: Yes; valet parking $45 per night

It’s a historic property with excellent service, a prime location, and a variety of room and suite options.

There aren’t a lot of on-property amenities.

The Marquesa has lived many lives since it was built in 1884 and is currently listed as an Old Town historic landmark. As a hotel, the 414-room Marquesa now includes one newly-built house and two historic neighboring buildings, a Gothic carpenter-style cottage built in 1878, and a mansion-turned-guesthouse.

As you can imagine, the rooms across these buildings range widely in style, size, and design, including open-plan suites, gorgeous slanted ceilings, and hidden alcoves. That said, all rooms and suites have been meticulously renovated and feature contemporary comforts like big beds and Nespresso machines, with options for balconies, kitchenettes, and luxurious bathrooms with soaking tubs. Service here is personal and the staff really goes that extra mile, though the daily resort fee can seem a tad steep considering the on-site amenities are limited to the three lovely pools, Wi-Fi, a daily continental breakfast, and a 24-hour concierge.

  • Distance From Airport: 3.6 miles from EYW
  • Nearby Attractions: Key West Lighthouse, Hemingway House and Museum, Duval Street, Mallory Square, Green Parrot Bar, Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park
  • Accessibility: ADA-accessible rooms, braille room numbers, TTY, accessible restaurant and parking, audio and visual alarms
  • Rates: From $292
  • Parking: Yes; self-parking $25 (plus tax) per day

Oceans Edge Key West Resort & Marina

Oceans Edge Resort & Marina Key West

The resort plays up its seaside location with charming nautical-themed decor.

Some travelers may prefer to be closer (think: walking distance) to Key West’s main drag.

Ocean’s Edge Key West Resort & Spa is a dockside resort on Stock Island. The full-service 165-slip marina makes it easy for you to tie-up and check in. The 175 rooms have a subtle and playful upscale nautical theme featuring bright white paneling, natural wood and navy-colored accents, and views overlooking the marina. While a lot of resorts focus on Key West’s history and main drag, this one encourages visitors to experience the resort’s natural side with activities like paddleboarding, kayaking, outdoor yoga classes, and bike rentals.

Boat charters are available through the hotel for private fishing excursions and scenic cruises, all departing straight from their docks. However, our favorite activity is the free one-hour eco-immersion experience where guests learn about the marine ecosystem from a local marine scientist. Guests can also expect their choice of six saltwater pools (with full service), a dock-to-dinner plate restaurant, daily happy hours and live music, and a free hourly shuttle service to Old Town. It’s no wonder this celebrated Key West resort made our World’s Best Awards list in 2022.

  • Distance From Airport: 3.5 miles from EYW
  • Accessibility: ADA-accessible pathways, rooms, restaurants, and parking; visual and audio alarms, entrance lift, braille signage throughout, TTY
  • Rates: From $184
  • Resort Fee: $50 per day
  • Parking: Yes; $27 (plus tax) per night
  • Pet Policy: $70 for each dog up to 60 pounds with 2 maximum.

It’s an all-suite boutique property with a rooftop pool and nearby beach access.

The minimum age is 25.

H20 Suites is an all-suite hotel located two blocks from the Southernmost Point, just one block from Duval Street, offering an intimate and tranquil respite from the heavy traffic of Old Town. With just 22 suites, the service here feels extremely personal and guests can look forward to private outdoor space, stocked in-room wet bars, and Italian marble bathrooms.

Half of the suites feature private pools, and all have cosmopolitan-modern decor that feels a bit more Miami than Florida Keys. The snazzy rooftop pool and bar is a standout with great views and a happy hour to boot, and we appreciate the 24-hour front desk and concierge service. There’s also a small gym on property. The daily resort fee covers amenities like access to Southernmost Beach (plus beach set-up), a welcome drink, a nightly treat and turndown service, and bottled water. This is an adults-only hotel with a minimum age of 25.

  • Neighborhood: Historic Old Town
  • Distance From Airport: 3.3 miles from EYW
  • Nearby Attractions: Duval Street, Southernmost Point, Hemingway House and Museum, Mallory Square, Truman Little White House
  • Accessibility: Two ADA-accessible rooms; pathways, public spaces, pool lift, audio and visual alarms, communication kits for hearing-impaired
  • Rates: From $348
  • Resort Fee: $40 per night (plus tax)
  • Parking: $20 per night with a limit of one car per room

The Capitana Key West

It’s one of the few hotels in Key West with direct beach access.

You can’t swim at the beach and it’s in a slightly industrial part of town that isn’t walkable to Old Town.

This waterfront beach boutique hotel has one huge advantage over most of the hotels in Key West — it has its own direct private beach access. The catch? It’s got a rough and rugged coral floor, which means no swimming, just lounging on the sand or in one of the hotel’s comfy cabanas. If you feel like a dip, the next best thing is the hotel’s saltwater pool, complete with ocean views and full service from the poolside tiki bar and restaurant.

Rooms are spacious and contemporary with soft, neutral beachy color palettes, comfy beds, and balconies with views of the Gulf of Mexico. Two-bedroom family suites can sleep up to seven, and springing for a cottage will get you over twice the amount of space and add a full kitchen and separate living room lounge area. Although this boutique hotel is family-friendly, it’s a popular spot for couples. Keep in mind that the New Town location is slightly out of the way — ideal if you’re trying to avoid crowds but not if you want to hit all the popular spots.

  • Neighborhood: New Town
  • Distance From Airport: 2.8 miles from EYW
  • Nearby Attractions: Smathers Beach, Key West Nature Preserve, Dredgers Key, Garrison Bight
  • Accessibility: ADA-accessible rooms, chair lifts, pool lift, public spaces, and parking; visual alarms and TTY available
  • Rates: From $293
  • Resort Fee: $35 per day
  • Parking: Yes; resort fee includes self-parking
  • Pet Policy: $100 per dog per night, maximum of two dogs and 30 pounds

Simonton Court Historic Inn & Cottages

Simonton Court

There are some thoughtful freebies and no resort fee.

This is a garden-set historic property with very limited accessibility.

Simonton Court Historic Inn & Cottages offers up a taste of Key West in the island’s Old Florida style. If you’re looking for a cute and quaint bed and breakfast, this is your frontrunner. Here, 30 rooms are spread out across 10 buildings on five properties, including a set of historic cottages built in 1880, giving guests an intimate and secluded feel right in the center of bustling Old Town.

A word to the wise: fully investigate all the available rooms before booking — the five different properties have distinct characteristics and room types are very specific when it comes to location, floor level, and amenities. Some of our favorite details are the red brick pathways, painted wood decking, and the abundant tropical gardens that surround the property. Keep in mind that Simonton Court is an adults-only property and because of its historic nature is not very suitable for travelers requiring ramps or other accessible features. A wander through the leafy palms will bring you to the hotel’s four pools with poolside service, bike rental area, and, on Friday and Saturday afternoons, a social happy hour with discounted drinks and free snacks. There’s also a free (albeit light) continental breakfast available, but best of all there’s no resort fee!

  • Accessibility: Very limited
  • Rates: From $309
  • Parking: Yes; reserved self-parking $30 per day (very limited)

Hyatt Centric Key West Resort & Spa

Every room has a balcony.

It’s on the water, but on a seawall without a beach area.

The Hyatt Centric Key West has a bullseye location when it comes to being at the heart of the action. Guests at this 120-room hotel can expect the typical Hyatt Centric experience and style that aims to mix the familiarity of a big brand with the feeling of a local boutique hotel. Rooms are comfy with the standard features, and we love that every single one has a balcony that comes with a shade cover so guests can take advantage of sunny days (note that not all have ocean views).

Menus at the restaurant and bar add in local flavor and ingredients, the ocean-view pool is heated in chillier months, and there’s a nice on-site spa with tropical-leaning treatments. The daily resort fee includes fun extras like a two-hour bike rental for each guest, pool inflatables and treats, 24-hour gym access (including Peloton bikes), and off-site beach access — but doesn’t include parking.

  • Neighborhood: Historic Seaport
  • Distance From Airport: 4.1 miles from EYW
  • Nearby Attractions: Duval Street, Mallory Square, Hemingway House and Museum, Key West Lighthouse, Mel Fisher Maritime Museum, Truman Little White House
  • Accessibility: ADA-accessible rooms, parking, pool, public areas, pathways, and fitness center; TTY
  • Rates: From $270
  • Resort Fee: $55 per day (per room)
  • Parking: Yes; $35 self-parking and $40 premium self-parking per night
  • Pet Policy: $150 per stay for up to 6 nights/$300 per stay for 7 or more nights; two dogs maximum with one dog maximum weight of 50 pounds or two dogs maximum combined weight of 75 pounds.

Southernmost Beach Resort Key West

Southernmost Beach Resort

You’ll get front-row ocean views, three pools, and free beach chairs and umbrellas at South Beach.

The unpredictable Wi-Fi and early-rising resident roosters aren’t for everyone.

The Southernmost Beach Resort Key West has a notable location at the end of Duval Street, just a three-minute walk to South Beach and the Southernmost Point buoy. It’s a great family-friendly option for travelers looking for a quieter Key West experience without having to sacrifice walkability. Built in 1948, this 261-room resort underwent a $15-million-dollar update to nearly all of its rooms, the exterior, lobby, and one of its pools and pool bars which was unveiled in 2022.

While there are 11 different room types to choose from, they’re on the smaller side, ranging between 220 to 470 square feet. Robes, coffeemakers, welcome waters, and mini-fridges come standard with upgrades snagging extras like balconies, upgraded views, or an oceanfront location. Guests can enjoy three pools with ocean views, full service menus, live music, and adults-only tranquility, and a full-service beach club serving up food, drinks, and free beach set-ups. A note to those who like to sleep in: there are several resident roosters on the property that never take an early morning off from crowing.

  • Distance From Airport: 3.4 miles from EYW
  • Nearby Attractions: Duval Street, Mallory Square, Southernmost Point, Hemingway House and Museum, Key West Lighthouse, Higgs Beach, Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park, South Beach, Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory
  • Accessibility: ADA-accessible public spaces, pathways, elevator, parking, and rooms; TTY available, visual alarms, pool lift, braille signage in accessible rooms
  • Rates: From $199
  • Parking: Yes; self-parking for one vehicle per room at $42 (plus tax) per night

Alexander’s Guest House

You’ll get free breakfast, an excellent location, and a 24-hour pool with no resort fee.

There are two clothing-optional upper sundecks on the property which may not appeal to everyone.

Alexander’s Guest House is a 17-room guesthouse and one of Key West’s proudly gay-owned and -operated hotels. Originally built in 1902, this three-story conch-style house is now listed on the National List of Historic Places, but don’t let her age fool you — this gorgeous girl has immaculate style and a flawless beauty routine. Natural wood ceilings, bright white trim and paneling, matte black shutters, and loads of large windows bringing in natural light showcase architectural highlights, while stark white furniture, well-placed animal print rugs, and black and white awnings keep things looking contemporary and sophisticated.

The lush tropical grounds, a 24-hour pool and spa, included breakfast, and a convenient yet quiet Old Town location make Alexander’s a popular spot, but the fact that there’s no resort fee makes it a downright gem. Another feature worth mentioning about this adults-only hotel? There’s an upper-level sun deck — and it’s clothing-optional.

  • Nearby Attractions: Duval Street, Mallory Square, Historic Seaport, Key West Aquarium
  • Accessibility: Parking spot, public spaces, guest room; visual and audio accessible features available for all rooms
  • Rates: From $295
  • Parking: No

Know Before You Go

Be wary of booking during hurricane season.

Key West experiences a hurricane season every year from June through November, and it’s no idle threat. The capital of the Conch Republic is one of the top five most impacted U.S. cities when it comes to hurricanes, often bearing the brunt of the season’s rains, winds, and flooding. As a former Floridian who has experienced their fair share of hurricanes, I can’t directly recommend booking a stay on this small island during hurricane season, but I can say that if you’re willing to take the gamble, room rates can be almost half-price from peak season. Keep in mind that even if there are no hurricanes, you’ll likely still experience short but heavy downpours.

You don’t necessarily need a car

Chances are, if you’ve got a car, you’ll park it at your hotel and that’s where it’ll stay until you’re ready to head home. Key West is so small that you can walk the main Duval strip from end-to-end in about 30 minutes if you don’t stop. For those who prefer wheels to walking , there’s also a free shuttle that travels the Duval Loop, making 16 stops along the way in about as many minutes. For anything farther off of Duval, rideshare services are affordable and readily available. The only time you’ll need to travel by car is getting to and from the airport.

Key West has its own (small) airport

One thing I love about Key West is that this tiny island with an area of just over four miles has its own international airport. Six airlines fly in and out of Key West — United, Delta, American, JetBlue, Allegiant, and Silver — with both year-round and seasonal routes. What I don’t love is how expensive these flights can be. It’s often more economical for many tourists to fly into Miami International Airport, rent a car, and drive the scenic 160 miles down to Key West. But time is money, so for some, it’s worth the extra price and shorter travel times.

The Keys are also known as the Conch Republic

While you’re there, you may see flags for the Conch Republic hung up around town, or hear people talking about “Conchs.” Long story short, in 1982, Key West staged a faux-protest against the U.S. government for causing a debilitating traffic jam along the only road out of the Keys. They declared their secession from the United States and the formation of the Conch Republic. The joke took on a life of its own with the creation of flags, passports, and fake currency, and is still talked about today.

Key West is a proud LGBTQIA-friendly destination

Key West is an international LGBTQIA haven, and throws one of the largest pride celebrations in the country. But, even bigger and perhaps more legendary than that is the island’s annual Fantasy Fest, a 10-day adults-only party that encourages its 75,000 attendees to let loose. It’s a quirky, creative, and queer-heavy party and everyone is invited. Even without an official event, Key West is known for being an open and accepting place, attracting over 250,000 LGBTQIA-identifying travelers every year.

How We Chose These Hotels

For this article, Katherine Alex Beaven sifted through the island’s best hotel offerings, keeping in mind T+L editor-loved properties and her own experience with Key West hotels during her travels to the island. She is also an experienced professional hotel reviewer who has reviewed over 500 hotels around the world. Ultimately, to make the cut, these Key West hotels had to stand out in categories including location, service, amenities, value, and overall guest experience. Hotels that earned a spot on T+L’s World’s Best Awards list were also considered and prioritized during evaluation (see the 2023 winners here).

For all of our hotel roundups, editors ensure our hotel recommendations align with our core T+L Hotel Values .
