We’re not a zoo
- Port Lympne Reserve is a breeding sanctuary for rare and endangered animals and wherever possible we aim to send animals born here to protected areas of their natural habitat where they can live free – just as they should be.
- We always make sure that the animals come first, from enclosure design to diet, no expense is spared. We grow our own herbs and vegetables and source our meat from trustworthy suppliers.
- We design our enclosures with the animals in mind, so there’s lots of natural foliage and furniture to provide shelter and camouflage.
- We never lock our animals into viewing areas, so, just like in the wild, it may take some time to spot certain animals.
- We do our best to provide a fantastic visitor experience, whilst not forgetting the primary reason we’re here – to ensure the survival of endangered animals.
TRIPADVISOR Wonderful Day Out An excellent place to visit - see the animals close up and enjoy excellent food at Baby Dolls restaurant. Friendly helpful staff everywhere around the huge park. The Safari ride is a must do. A great day out at a great price. Ken S. Written August 26, 2021
TRIPADVISOR Super Safari The reserve is large and offers a lovely day out. I highly recommend booking the safari as this was the best part of our visit. Amy Rogers. Written August 6, 2021
TRIPADVISOR An unbelievable experience We were all amazed at just how good this place is. We stayed in the hotel for two nights so got two full days in the park. Everything is so well organised and the safari drives are brilliant. You get to see so many animals close up. We have been to a South African safari and we saw more animals here than we did there. We were very luck with the weather which added to the experience. You have to give this place a try, you will love it and the kids will too. Gary F. Written October 6, 2020

Guest review : “No matter what I write, it won’t do this place justice.
It simply has to be experienced first hand.
The attention to detail in every aspect of the experience emanated a 5 star hotel (if you could even think that possible from a self-reliance experience in a tree-house).
Even finding the tree-houses hidden in the woods is a well thought through adventure.
The treehouses themselves are a masterpiece of sustainable engineering.
When you’re in them, they feel spacious yet cosy and you sometimes have to remind yourself that you’re up a tree.
The experience was incredible grounding, having to keep the fire running to stay warm and have hot water, and to keep the candles lit to see each other – it’s amazing how your eyes can adapt to read a book by candlelight.
We really thought this was going to a one off trip to say we’d been there and done that.
However, we will certainly be back.
The next time we need a bit of an escape from reality, we’ll be booking ourselves back in.
Couldn’t recommend highly enough.” – Ross, November 2020

As the UK enters summer, tourists are starting to flock to popular towns and seaside resorts across the country.
While the British Isles does a great line in cottages, hotels and self-catered accommodation ranging from rustic to contemporary, there’s also a range of quirkier options available when it comes to places to stay.
Log cabins , chalets, yurts, pods, shepherd huts... there’s never been more choice for a relaxing staycation in the wild.
For the ultimate back-to-nature experience though, why not try a treehouse? These offbeat stays offer comfortable, peaceful accommodation in a fairytale woodland setting. Remote locations are coupled with features such as hot tubs , pools and sometimes local wild swimming spots to enable guests to make the most of their time in the great outdoors.
Whether you’re looking to completely cut off from normal life on a digital detox or just want to explore some of the country’s most picturesque spots, coupled with a stay in a unique base, read on to find some of the UK’s best treehouse holidays.
Pipit at The Treehouses at Lanrick, Scotland
Lanrick can be found on a wide expanse of lush green land in Perthshire, where six treehouses sit peacefully in the Scottish woodlands. The site itself has access to a variety of riverside and woodland walks, opportunities for fly fishing and even a new woodland sauna, but if that isn’t enough for you then the Trossachs National Park is only five minutes away by car. When there, you can enjoy activities such as hiking, climbing, kayaking and wild swimming.
Of the six treehouses, Pipit is arguably the most scenic. Tucked among the trees, this Scandinavian-inspired cabin includes a large deck with electric barbecue and outdoor bath that make for great relaxation and interesting meal times. Inside, the treehouse has high, wooden-beamed ceilings and double doors that open out onto the deck, with modern aesthetic interiors.
How to stay
Prices start at £225 per night during low season, with a minimum stay of two nights. lanricktreehouses.co.uk
Treetops Treehouse, Devon
The Fox and Hounds Hotel sits in the heart of Devon , on six acres of land on the River Taw. An excellent place for both a sophisticated stay and an opportunity to enjoy a natural setting, the hotel’s standout accommodation is its award-winning Treehouse. Built in 2014, this is a treehouse in the more traditional sense of the word, suspended over and built around the branches of a huge oak tree.
The treehouse contains two bedrooms (sleeping four people) and an ensuite bathroom, as well as cosy living room and kitchen areas. Wooden interiors come with additional homely features such as wood burning stove, copper bath and beanbags. The deck area extends around the front half of the treehouse, providing great views of the surrounding region from the seating area.
There is a minimum two-night stay at the Treehouse, with prices in low season starting at £289 per night. There are options to add B&B and dinner, for £10 or £40 per person per night respectively. foxandhoundshotel.com

Chewton Glen, Hampshire
Chewton Glen itself is a hotel and spa that provides elegant, traditional stays in a New Forest country house. The hotel offers everything you’d expect – and more – from a quintessentially English hotel, including a spa, pool, gym, tennis courts and even cookery classes, but its 14 treehouse suites are a wonderfully unexpected option. Each one is suspended 35 feet above ground in the property’s own secluded section of the New Forest, with options ranging from a 61 square metre, two-bed ‘Studio Suite’ to ‘The Yews’, a 167 square metre private treehouse that sleeps up to 12 people.
All treehouse suites come with a private terrace that includes a hot tub, day beds and wood burners. Inside is even more luxurious, with under-floor heating, walk-in showers and marble bathrooms complementing the treehouses’ contemporary style and muted tones. With added services such as daily breakfast hampers and room service, this is the epitome of a luxurious woodland stay.
There is a two-night minimum stay during quieter periods of the year. Prices start at £1,350, £1,550 and £1,600 for the Studio Suite, Loft suite and Hideaway Suite respectively. chewtonglen.com
The Hide at Pennard Farm, Somerset
Recently opened at the end of last year, The Hide is the newest addition to Pennard Farm. Located on a distant corner of the farm, The Hide looks out over a rolling valley, suspended among dozens of oak and ash trees. It contains two sleeping options (sleeping four people overall): the cabin and a suspended tree tent.
The cabin is a luxurious wooden structure with a king-size bed, kitchen and bathroom area that offers a rustic, minimalist stay. Outside, the tree tent is a unique alternative (or separate ‘bedroom’ if there are four of you), with a double or twin beds and its own wood burner.
A deck comes with a twin hot tub, fire pit barbecue, pizza oven and wood brining stoves, meaning you can make the most of starry nights or peaceful days spent in the tranquil woodland.
The Hide carries a minimum two-night stay. Prices start at £195 per night in low season, rising to £245 per night in peak season. pennardhillfarm.co.uk
Rufus’ Roost, Yorkshire
The Baxby Manor campsite is yet another award-winner on the list, offering camping, glamping and cabin stays on a large site next to the North York Moors National Park. The dog-friendly site has first-class camping facilities (including its own shop, in case you’ve forgotten to pack anything), and its privileged location is close to abbeys, halls, pubs and physical activities such as woodland trails and bike routes.
The range of accommodation is headlined by Rufus’ Roost, a treehouse in its own area of private woodland and accessed through a raised boardwalk. This treehouse boasts three double bedrooms in addition to the lounge area and kitchen, where minimalist wooden interiors meet rustic features – including hand-carved wooden staircase bannisters and floor-to-ceiling windows– and a modern kitchen area. On the veranda, guests get access to a hot tub, seating area pizza oven and fire pit.
Unlike the rest of the campsite, Rufus’ Roost is open all year. Three-night weekend stays start at £1,450, while seven-night stays come in at £2,450. baxbymanor.co.uk
Cuckoo’s Hideaway, Wales
Cuckoo’s Hideaway is the treehouse option from Nant Coy Cottages, a Welsh company offering converted barn accommodation in a site just eight miles away from the Ceredigion coast in Wales. While the two barn conversions are a comfortable modern choice, the treehouse is a truly exceptional option for a unique stay in the site’s woodland area, built by the owners themselves.
Unlike many other treehouses, the emphasis here is on the modern rather than the rustic: slick painted interiors and floor-to-ceiling glass dominates the kitchen and living area, while kitchen utilities, the bedroom and the bathroom are all finished with modern features such as marble. On the outside deck, a large separate hot tub area steals the show, while the bar area contains a seating area and a pizza oven. For those who want to explore the local area, nearby attractions include the Vale of Rheidol Railway and Penrhos Park.
There is a two-night minimum stay, while check-in days are only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Prices start at £225 per night. nantcoyholidays.co.uk
Lakeside Tree House, Lancashire
Cleveleymere has its own 34-acre site near the town of Garstang in Lancashire (and not too far from Blackpool and Preston). It boasts seven lodges in addition to its Lakeside Tree House, with the 24-acre lake acting as a focal point for this area of natural beauty. It’s perfect for a peaceful, relaxing staycation, though rowing boats, pedalos and nature walks are available for more active visitors. If you want to go further afield, attractions such as Lancaster Castle and the Flower Bowl entertainment centre are nearby.
The treehouse sleeps four people in master and twin bedrooms. Standing in its own private acre of land, its amenities are exclusively for guests’ use and include the land itself, a fire pit and barbecue, and a private swing and rowing boat. As well as a balcony, there is a rope bridge over to a larger private decking area.
Modernity is again at the centre of this treehouse. Wood-panelled flooring and ceilings are complemented by wooden bi-fold doors out on the balcony, while furniture and finishes are modern and stylish.
Cleveleymere’s carries with it a two-night minimum stay. Prices start at £269 per night, though you can save 10 per cent by paying in full in advance of your stay. cleveleymere.com
Two Pines, Northamptonshire
Set on an old Second World War airfield, The Wilding Airfield is now a 90-acre “rewilded nature reserve” that prioritises “promotion of the natural environment in a diverse setting”. There are only two accommodation options on the site, and while both are impressive, the Two Pines Treehouse steals the show. The fully equipped accommodation sleeps two people in a second-storey bedroom, while the ground floor consists of a bathroom and kitchen and living room area that contain pared-back, wooden interiors and splashes of colour courtesy of the furniture.
Outside, the deck area boasts a copper bath tub, a fire pit, pizza oven and outdoor grill to add to its seating options. The rustic design is perfect for sitting and enjoying the outdoors and the plentiful nature and wildlife, while little touches such as the complimentary welcome breakfast basket are sure to make this stay a memorable one.
Prices start at £205 per night and there is a minimum stay of two nights. thewildingairfield.co.uk

20 incredible treehouse stays in the UK
When you think of a treehouse, you may be picturing a botched up wooden box precariously perched up a tree! But there are some truly astounding treehouses across the UK, many of which are genuine architectural wonders.
I’m a big fan of treehouse stays, as they’re a wonderful way of getting back to nature while enjoying luxury touches and exceptional style.
They blend seamlessly into their serene surroundings, offering not just a roof over your head but an enchanting interplay between nature, comfort, and design.
For those weary of the mundane hotel room or the ubiquitous holiday cottage, a treehouse offers a nostalgic reconnection with childhood dreams, paired with the luxuries of modern living.
From the remote Scottish Highlands to the picturesque valleys of Wales, and the leafy corners of England, the UK boasts an array of unforgettable treetop retreats.
Join me as we climb ladders and cross bridges to discover the very best of UK treehouse stays.
A quick note on dog-friendly treehouse stays in the UK – I’ve done my best to include some dog-friendly options, but the majority of treehouses are unfortunately not able to cater for your furry friends.
This is usually because of the surrounding birds and wildlife. That said, I’ve included a handful of dog-friendly treehouse stays which have been marked in this post.
Whether you’re seeking a romantic hideaway, a family adventure, or simply a tranquil place to listen to the whispers of leaves, the perfect canopy-covered oasis awaits.

1. Nymetwood Treehouses
Where: Crediton, Devon
Highlights:
- Outdoor bath
- Skylight above the bed
- Beautiful Scandi interiors
Dog-friendly? No
Nestled within a sprawling 20-acre expanse of woodland, meadow, and apple orchards, lies Nymetwood Treehouses.
There are two treehouses to choose from (I stayed in Starling ), both surrounded by the enchanting Devon countryside and perched amidst the tree canopy.
The treehouses combine cosy comfort with chic Scandi design that looks as though it belongs in the pages of an interior design magazine.
They are best suited to two adults but there is a small room with bunk beds to accommodate two extra little ones.
Stargaze from the cosy king-size bed situated in the mezzanine or settle into the sofa with a good book in front of the woodburner.
A real highlight is the outside copper bathtub on the deck, perfect for soaking up the tranquillity of the surrounding woodland – a real highlight of my stay.
You’ll find everything you need at the treehouses, with fully equipped kitchens, board games, books and Netflix.
Not far from Dartmoor National Park, both Devon and Cornwall’s treasures are within a stone’s throw.
My recommendation? Put a Harry Potter film on the TV, light the wood-burning stove and snuggle up on the sofa with a cup of tea – or glass of wine.
It honestly does not get more comforting and peaceful than this.
2. Bower Treehouse
Where: Bruton, Somerset
- Outdoor bathtub
- Skylights for stargazing
- Fire pit & BBQ
On arrival at this charming treehouse, we picked up our lanterns before heading into the woodlands.
Here you cross a bridge which takes you over a trickling stream to the treehouse.
It’s a back-to-nature treehouse stay but with a touch of luxury. Lie back in the king-sized bed carved from stag oak and stargaze through the skylight.
Whip up a meal in the copper and brass kitchen, or fire up the BBQ for an alfresco treat.
A particular highlight of mine was soaking in the outdoor bath at night, with a glass of Champagne and a light trickle of rain. This place is truly dreamy.

The chicest treehouse stays for a cosy UK getaway
Treehouses have the ability to stir our inner child like nothing else. It’s a novelty that the UK ’s swishest hotels are tapping into with sky-high dens in surrounding woodlands .
Of course, they’re far from the ones of our youth. Expect memory foam mattresses, hot tubs bubbling on wraparound decks, and to-die-for farmshop breakfast hampers — not to mention all the tech trimmings you’d hardly expect to find up in the clouds.
Clamber down from your high-up hideaway for wild swimming, nature treks and, of course, a woodland shuffle to the local pub. Here are the best treehouse stays in the UK.
The Roost and The Den, Wildhive, Callow Hall, Derbyshire
For a county seemingly lacking in good hotels (despite the Peak District’s siren call to walkers), Callow Hall made quite the impression on Londoners when it opened in 2022, mainly for its nature-first attitude, but mostly (really) for its achingly Instagrammable Woodland Hives and treehouses peppered throughout the grounds.
They’re deep in the belly of the forest, where everything seems to slow to the rhythm of the trees. Look up and you’ll see The Roost and The Den: two rustic-luxe wonders on stilts that are on the autumn staycation list of anyone in-the-know. Guests can relish the immense privacy in wraparound wooden terraces, which are decked in comfy outdoor seating. They sleep five, with two bathrooms, Nespresso machines, WiFi – essentially all the lovely perks of a 5* hotel, just without a soul around, save the odd fox.
While anyone would be excused for staying put in this stylish woodland stay for the full weekend, it’s worth coming back down to earth for cycling the Tissington Trail or tucking into the organic fare at Callow Hall’s glass-encased restaurant that, like the treehouses, really draws the outside in.
Book: Treehouses from £614 (excluding breakfast) sleeping up to five. wildhive.uk
The Hillside and Valley Treehouses, The Tawny, Staffordshire
Perched (quite literally) on the edge of the Staffordshire moorlands, up on stilts, the treehouses at The Tawny enjoy some of the best views in the country.
The Hillside Treehouses peer across lakes fringed by a riot of flowers and mottled follies (all the legacy of the estate’s horticulturally astute owner, William Podmore), while the Valley version are elevated above sloping woodland, festooned with lush ferns and pink-flowering bushes.
Decked out with nature-inspired furnishings — expect leaf print cushions and autumnal-hued sofas and curtains — these less-than-humble treehouses also boast a standalone bathtub and some moddish, neo-deco accents. The views really draw you into the surrounding countryside and are best gawped at from the outdoor ‘spa bath’ and shower.
Book: From £420 per night for two people. thetawny.co.uk
Leckie Treehouses, Scotland
The coolest group houses to book for autumn
The most beautiful hotel rooms in the UK — for every budget
The Leckie Estate in Stirlingshire’s pixie-like woodland, wih waterfalls and craggy, heather carpeted hills is a knockout setting for a lofty perch. Four sustainable treetop hideaways sleeping two to five people have been stitched into the oak and sycamore canopy, with luxe touches such as underfloor heating and super king size beds.
Fun, handmade bunks have been fashioned into Wren and Siskin (two beds) - the sort that will make children squeal with joy - while the outdoor copper baths feel suspended in the Scottish wilderness.
A wood burner welcomes cold-cheeked ramblers back to base, after scaling the ancient Leckie brock via steep crags and waterfalls. Evenings here are all about sky-high barbecues using estate bounty from the farm shop.
The eco-credentials of these woodland retreats are commendable — designed to minimise their impact on the environment with air source heat pumps and constructed from estate timber.
Book: From £260 per night for a one-bedroom Treehouse (minimum two-night stay). leckietreehouses.co.uk
The Hide, Pennard Farm, Somerset
With watercolour views of the Mendip Hills (and the Glastonbury campsite below), Pennard Farm sits along the brow of a hillside. Its feasts, souped-up tents and treehouses are captained by husband and wife team, Pippa and Tom. Of these, the Hide feels the closest to your fairytale treehouse, suspended in an ancient oak canopy with a wood-fired twin bathtub and star-studded night’s sky above.
Autumnal afternoons can be spent curled up with a rug and hot cocoa, allowing the valley views through a natural clearing to absorb all that city cortisol.
Sleeping up to four in total, the treehouse boasts a heavenly king size bed. Though the more adventurous can saunter across the wooden bridge to the tree tents where a double or two separated singles sit in a pod-like shape suspended above the forest floor.
It’s more rustic than some, but there is (praise be) a flushing loo, a piping hot outdoor shower and a woodfire to cook your morning sausages over (the indoor gas hob is cheating). Evenings here can be spent feasting (on specific dates only) in Pennard Farm’s newly renovated barn or firing up the pizza oven for an alfresco, sky-high supper.
Book: The Hide from £195, sleeping up to four. pennardhillfarm
The Treehouses, Cowdray, West Sussex
The jury’s out on just how far a treehouse can stretch its bare-boned, rickety ladder definition. With a fully-fledged bootroom, open-plan living space that would make most London flats blush, and wool rug-strewn beds, Cowdray’s treehouses feel worlds away from the sky-high structure with bunk beds that most would envisage.
The elemental concoction of glass and estate timber feels both modern and sympathetic – weaving into the surrounding scenery with architectural flair. Bi-fold glass doors peel back to a Winnie-the-Pooh woodland and a wrap-around viewing deck replete with a Finnish-style, wood-fired tub.
Hunker down (up high) in the cooler months with the abundance of woolly rugs, sheepskins and a log fire. Should cabin fever ever strike (unlikely with the far-reaching views over the polo fields and the iconic Cowdray ruins), the estate is a rural playground of clay pigeon shooting, craft workshops, cycling, or even introductory polo sessions.
Pre-cooked meals and scrumptious breakfast hampers from the estate café can be ordered to the treehouses, though any long stays here should be paired with a jaunt to some of the local vineyards, or a wander along one of the South Downs many hiking trails.
Book: From £350 a night (with two night minimum). cowdray.co.uk
Elmore Court Estate, Gloucestershire
Woven high in the canopy overlooking the rewilding wetlands of Gloucestershire’s Elmore Court Estate are six bespoke treehouses, all of which honour the untouched nature surrounding them in both aesthetics and structural design.
Whether you’re sipping a morning coffee high in the laurel canopy of Sky (four person) while observing rare species from your copper tub, or staying snug beside a flickering wood burner in Wren (two person), a pocket-sized cabin on stilts, the objective here is to reconnect with nature… While taking a few grid-worthy Instagram shots in fluffy robes.
You can forget the rickety ladder, all treehouses are reached via a wide boardwalk that winds through the wood from the parking bay (with EV charging points of course).
The sheltered outdoor kitchenettes are a lovely summer touch, and guarantee no missed hare or swan sighting while flipping the bacon. While all the treehouses are self-catered, Elmore Court’s first-rate home-grown produce is well worth ordering in advance.
Book: Treehouses from £250 per night. rewildthings.com
Chewton Glen, Hampshire
Suspended 35 feet above Chewton Glen’s Enid Blyton-worthy grounds, a series of safari-style tree houses raised a few eyebrows of this New Forest Grand Dame’s loyalists when they first popped up.
Far from rustic, or indeed from the main hotel building’s chintzy charm, these architectural showstoppers have been chiselled into the tree canopy with just about every techy, modern perk imaginable, from plush kitchenettes to EV charge points just outside.
Built on stilts with impressive eco-credentials, the contemporary (cavernous) hideaways are wrapped in wooden private decks and smothered in enough dense greenery to feel incredibly private.
Chewton Glen’s garden-to-table menus, or delectable breakfast hampers can be hoiked up to the treehouses, or guests can be whisked to the country house hotel’s restaurants or Romanesque spa in buggies.
Pooch owners will be pleased to learn that these skyward stays are dog-friendly. While parents scramble to book during the school holidays and half terms, for Chewton Glen’s superb Kid’s Club and outdoorsy, en famille activities (expect duck herding and plenty of tennis), but most of all, for the privacy of a self-catered stay with the five-star service this New Forest Grande Dame is famed for.
Book: T reehouses from £1,350 per night for two people. chewtonglen.com
The Nest Treehouse, Sleepy Owl, Devon
The devil’s in the detail at this cavernous treehouse, in plum position for jaunts to the Devon and Cornish coastline. From underfloor heating to the super king size bed, this treetop stay keeps things elevated in all senses. A particularly fun feature is the ‘treehouse within a treehouse’ with bunk beds for children – the sort of den that will have sprogs charging around the room with unbridled glee.
Guests have a choice of a rather opulent double gold bath a few steps from their bed, or the outdoor tub plonked on the terrace, with bucolic shots of the meadows below.
While all the Sleepy Owl treehouses are designed for a self-catered stay, unfussy pub grub is a brisk ten minute welly stomp away.
In this unsullied corner of the West Country, the magic really starts at dusk, when the sounds of the wild wraps around the treehouse, along with that delicious waft of smoky barbecue and, gradually, the sky lights up with stars as you dip into a gurgling hot tub, red wine in hand.

Each has a neat, cleverly designed interior with a mezzanine bed, topped by a window to the stars and the bobbing branches overhead. There’s a telly, wifi, games to play and music to listen to, but the view from the sofa will probably be enough to absorb you. A glass-fronted bathroom and outside tub ensures you never have to take your eyes off that lush horizon.
Rooms? One. Sleeps two guests. Mood? Magical. Location perks? Ancient woodland, a fruit orchard and fields turned over to wild meadow. Need we say more? Budget range? Seriously spenny.
7. The Poppy Treehouse, Hampshire
The Poppy Treehouse is found at the end of a boardwalk, deep in woodland. Trees are your views from your two outside terraces and all those enormous windows. Despite sitting on stilts instead of in an actual tree, Poppy feels like the treehouse of childhood dreaming thanks to its leafy aspect and log cabin-style interior. Thankfully there are a few adult touches, in the form of a bottle of sparkling Black Chalk (from the local winery) in the fridge and an enormous alfresco copper bath for two.
Rooms? Two. Sleeps four guests. Mood? Rustic but comfy. Location perks? It's on the edge of Black Chalk Vineyard, so be sure to take advantage of a tasting or two. Budget range? Pricey.
8. The Bower Treehouse, Somerset
There’s something almost clandestine about arriving, finding the key and checking yourself into this gorgeous treehouse. A real draw is the alfresco bathtub, so you can soak your worries away to the sound of rustling leaves and birdsong. Inside, there's a wood-burner, stack of board games and an underfloor-heated bathroom. And when you're ready for bed? Sink into a king-size carved from stag oak while a small stream flows softly below the treehouse.

Each cosy dwelling is built around a wood-burning stove and houses a kitchen, double-bed and fold-down bunk beds, as well as an en-suite compost toilet. The only thing you won’t find here is electricity, so combine your stay with a digital detox and swap electric lights for twinkling lanterns while you snuggle up under the blankets and settle down in the silence with a good book.
Rooms? One. Sleeps four guests. Mood? Hobbit den on stilts. Location perks? Just eight miles from the bustling market town of Machynlleth in mid-Wales. Budget range? Mid-range.
11. Sky Den, Northumberland
TV’s George Clarke (of Amazing Spaces fame) has collaborated with the Calvert Trust to bring the Sky Den to life. The completed treehouse is certainly on brand – it’s the definition of an amazing space. Part treehouse, part art installation, its wow factor is matched only by its impressive functions. Set below some of the darkest skies in the UK, the real star of the show is the roof, which opens fully, so you can stargaze from the comfort of your own bed. During the day, wildlife lovers will be in their element, as you might catch a glimpse of native red squirrels and osprey. See ya later urban foxes.
Rooms? One. Sleeps four guests. Mood? Architectural wonder. Location perks? It's a short walk from the Kielder Water & Forest Park activity centre, which offers water sports, rope courses, climbing, orienteering and more. Budget range? Low- to mid-range depending on party size.
12. West Lexham, Norfolk
West Lexham has six treehouses and tree temples to choose from, depending on your party’s size. Each has its own special quirk, but every treehouse is crafted from local wood and has been built as a tranquil haven to help visitors unwind. The spacious Sunrise Treehouse is better labelled as a tree castle, with its three bedrooms and a staircase to a mezzanine floor, plus several tree trunks that actually grow through the property. There's no bathroom however – this is a short walk away. Perched on the edge of the woods, the smaller Tinker Treehouse is perfect for two and was Britain’s first treehouse made for overnight stays.
Rooms? Three. Sleeps six guests. Mood? Glamping. Location perks? The West Lexham Garden Kitchen is a short walk, should you fancy something hot, and there's a naturally filtered swimming pool open May to September (wild swimming is year-round). Budget range? Bargain for six.
13. Lost Meadow Treepod, Cornwall
This quirky little sphere is rightly described as a pod rather than a house, as it’s actually suspended between two trees. Simply ascend the staircase to reach the hanging globe (AKA your new bedroom). The cedar-clad ball looks lightweight, and it is, but you needn’t worry about crashing down to earth: the pod uses early zeppelin engineering and can withstand major weights. The wood burner keeps you snug in winter and the double-glazed windows afford woodland and river views over the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s a bucolic bubble.
Rooms? One. Sleeps two guests. Mood? Tiny Death Star, but more twee than kill-me. Location perks? From your lofty vantage point, keep your eyes peeled for roe deer, kingfishers and even the occasional otter. Budget range? Affordable.
14. Chewton Glen, Hampshire
For five-star luxury meets up-a-tree seclusion, Chewton Glen’s treehouse suites offer the best of both worlds. On the one hand, you’re technically among the trees, 35 feet off the ground with peaceful forest views. On the other, your hotel-standard suite comes with under-floor heating, a walk-in shower, mood lighting and a large terrace complete with hot tub. Depending on your party size, book the studio (sleeps two), loft (room for two adults and four children) or hideaway (two adults, two children). If, however, you're planning a shared family getaway (or have a particularly large brood), splash out on The Yews. This sprawling architectural wonder sleeps four adults and up to eight kids.
Rooms? Three. Sleeps 12 guests. Mood? Sheer woodland indulgence. Location perks? A breakfast hamper is delivered daily. Budget range? Spenny as it gets.

13 of the best treehouses in the uk.
Thought treehouses were all haphazardly-laid floorboards and rope ladders? These lofty, luxurious UK boltholes prove otherwise. Here are the best treehouse sleeps in England, Scotland and Wales...
1. Hudnalls Hideout, Wye Valley
Hudnalls Hideout (Hudnalls Hideout)
Placed in a picturesque, two-acre wood in the Wye Valley (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the border of Wales and England), Hudnalls Hideout is one of the best-looking treehouse escapes in the UK.
During a stay here, you'll be totally secluded. No awkward run-ins with neighbouring treehouse guests – because there simply aren't any. This treehouse even offers private access to a meadow bursting with wildflowers. There's easy access to endless woodland, the local village pub and Float In The Forest, in the Forest of Dean, offering a modern relaxation technique called 'floating'. Most every luxury you could need to complete your stay can be dropped off at the treehouse prior to your arrival, too, including luxury food hampers.
Unsurprisingly, Hudnalls Hideout is a hugely popular romantic getaway (no pets or children allowed), so you'll need to book well in advance. Slots are currently full until 2021.
2. The Treehouse at Harptree Court, Somerset
The Treehouse at Harptree Court, Somerset (Canopy & Stars)
Nothing says luxury like a copper bath – one of Harptree Treehouse 's most decadent features. A plush double bed, wood-burning stove, and fully-equipped kitchen complete this secluded getaway.
Harptree is a beautiful, modern treehouse, sleeps two people, and nearby Mendip Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and cities Bath and Bristol make ideal day trips – although you may not want to leave at all when you see the huge terrace.
3. Fernie Castle Treehouse, Fife
Fernie Castle Treehouse, Fife, Scotland (Fernie Castle Treehouse)
Built in a cluster of sycamore trees, a stay at Fernie Castle's treehouse is like stepping into a fairytale. That's not just because of its turreted roof and its high position among the foliage, but also because of the décor – fairies and mythical creatures are painted on the walls.
With a large bedroom (with king size bed) and three balconies, you'll have plenty of space, and the grounds of Fernie Castle below are yours to explore.
4. Treetops Treehouse, Devon
Treetops Treehouse, Devon (Treetops Treehouse)
Like something out of a children's book – built at odd angles around a 250-year-old oak tree – Treetops Treehouse is nothing short of magical. This accommodation sleeps four, and has a kitchen, copper bath and shower, lounge, and a terrace.
Overlooking Eggesford Forest and in between Exmoor and Dartmoor national parks, this Devon escape is in a convenient location to discover the surrounding area.
5. The Living Room Treehouses, Powys
The Living Room Treehouses, Powys, Wales (Canopy & Stars)
In the heart of north Wales, just south of Snowdonia, are Living Room Treehouses – a group of six curved pods set in the treetops. Each are designed for a couple or family of four, and have a kitchen, living area, bathroom facilities and terrace.
Set deep in the woods, these treehouses are an off-the-grid experience ideal for lovers of the outdoors – so isolated that once you arrive you're taken by the owners on a short hike through the forest to reach them. We particularly like Gwdy Hw , Pen y Bryn, Ty Mawr.
6. Tree Sparrow House, Cornwall
Tree Sparrow House, Cornwall (Tree Sparrow House)
Nestled in the trees of southern Cornwall is Tree Sparrow House – which is as tiny yet charming as it sounds. This cubby-like treehouse is suitable for two people, with a double bed on a mezzanine level and small kitchen and wash room below.
Cosy and quirky, and a ten-minute walk away from the beach, this Cornwall gem is ideal for travellers who want to get away from the chaos of modern life and disappear into wilderness.
7. Sky Den, Northumberland
The Sky Den, Northumberland (Canopy & Stars)
There are treehouses, and then there's Sky Den . Ingeniously designed down to the last millimetre, Sky Den sleeps four comfortably, with lots of nifty fold-away furniture and space-saving features.
The Sky Den's real crowning glory is the triangular roof, which can open up to leave you free to the great outdoors. Set in Northumberland's Kielder Water & Forest Park, there are plenty of adventurous activities to experience in the area, and wildlife to spot.
8. Rufus's Roost Treehouse at The Hideaway, North Yorkshire
Up to six guests can soak up views of the Yorkshire countryside from Rufus's Roost Treehouse , which is located in the same woodland as the 14th century Baxby Manor.
It feels hidden away – especially as you access your borrowed treetop home via a raised boardwalk – but it's pleasingly close to many of Yorkshire's highlights, including the North York Moors National Park, the Yorkshire Dales and a 17-mile drive to York city centre.
9. Chewton Glen Treehouse, Hampshire
Chewton Glen Treehouse, Hampshire (Chewton Glen)
This is a treehouse by name, but not by nature – it's a luxury hotel on stilts. Within the grounds of Chewton Glen hotel, this decadent treehouse experience offers suites in the forest canopy, with panoramic views from your floor-to-ceiling windows, breakfast hampers served to your door each morning, and giant terraces – some with a private hot tub.
Calling Hampshire home, Chewton Glen is right by England's beautiful south coast and the New Forest National Park.
10. Tree Howf at Craighead Howfs, Perthshire
Tree Howf looks like more of a medieval castle than a treehouse, truth be told. Alas, you'll still be afforded a luxury 'glamping' experience staying here, complete with a shower on site, wood-burning oven for cooking up a feast, and a perfectly-situated balcony offering views over the Ochil Hills.
Wildlife lovers will especially enjoy Tree Howf, with plenty of birdlife, ponies, pygmy goats and ryeland sheep (looked after by the site's owners) roaming the area.
11. Mistletoe Treehouse, Monmouthshire
Mistletoe Treehouse, Monmouthshire, Wales (Canopy & Stars)
