The former princely capital of Saurashtra region and now an emerging tourism destination and business hub, Rajkot is the fourth largest city in Gujarat, located on the banks of Aji and Nyari Rivers. Founded in the year 1612 as the headquarters of Western India States Agency, Rajkot was earlier the administrative center for some 400 princely states in Saurashtra, Kutch, and northern Gujarat. The city got its name in the memory of its co-founder Raju Sandhi. In the 1720 AD, Rajkot was seized by Masum Khan, an official ruler of the Junagadh region. It was during the British rule; Rajkot saw a development in the field of art, culture and education. The city is the birthplace of the finest intellectuals who ultimately led India in the freedom struggle.

The Colonel John Watson Memorial Museum in the Jubilee Garden displays the colonial history of the neighbourhood as well as antiquities from the Indus Valley Civilization that were unearthed in and around the state.

How to Reach: The museum is situated next to the Dhebar road in the Jubilee Garden neighbourhood. Through the SH-26, which is also the best route to take if travelling by car, this region is connected to Jamnagar. Rajkot and Jamnagar are about 88 kilometres apart. Both bus and cab options are available from Rajkot to the Watson Museum.

Jagat Mandir

Do not overlook the Jagat Mandir if you frequently visit religious sites. This mandir houses the statues of several deities of various faiths. 

However, the Shri Ramakrishna Paramahansa is the main god to whom the temple is dedicated. The god is seen seated on a lotus flower and is constructed of white marble, which contrasts with the colour of the temple walls. 

Due to the red stone’s contrast with its natural surroundings, the temple shines out both during the day and at night. The temple is sustained by 60 pillars that are each distinctive in their way and constructed of granite and sandstone.

The Khambhalida Caves, which date all the way mid-4th or fifth century AD, are home to exquisite sculptures chiselled out of limestone. They consist of three caverns, the central one of which features a chaitya. 

Avalokiteshvara Padmapani and Avalokiteshvara Vajrapani, two life-size statues of Bodhisattvas, flank the chaitya’s entrance. The figurines are the only known representations of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara in the Gujarati cave building, according to the site’s description.

The charming city of Gondal is located around 35 kilometres south of Rajkot. The city is renowned for both its extensive collection of vehicles and its effective road system, which was the best in earlier times. 

The Riverside Palace and the Darbargadh contribute to the city’s continued grandeur and regal air. The 1875-built Riverside Palace is currently a historic hotel with sizable grounds that also serve as a woodland preserve where people can occasionally see animals and uncommon bird species. 

On the other side, the Darbargadh is a 17th-century palace known for its stunning arches, which are found all around the grounds. The palace is offered to tourists for a modest price and is also known as the Navlakha Palace. In addition to this, Gondal features a lively market that offers inexpensive items and has meandering lanes that add to the city’s attractiveness.

How to Reach: The cheapest way to get from Rajkot to Gondal is to line the 09513 train, which costs Rs 90 – Rs 600 and takes 39 min. The fastest way to get from Rajkot to Gondal is by taxi, which takes 30 min and costs Rs 1,300 – Rs 1,600.

The Lang Library is one of the greatest Rajkot tourist places and the surrounding area for bibliophiles who enjoy the heady aroma of books and being surrounded by them.

In Rajkot, Gujarat, Pradhyuman Zoological Park is close to Lalpari Lake. The Pradhyuman/Rajkot Prani Sangrahalaya is the name given to it most frequently. The park’s perimeter is 137 acres wide.

Lalpari Lake is yet another picturesque spot on the outskirts of Rajkot. It was constructed in 1895 and was a part of Victoria Golden Jubilee Water Works. The water for the lake comes from the Lal Pari River, a tributary of the Aji River. It is a place to explore the beauty of nature in a very optimistic way.

It has been popular among nature photographers and bird watchers. Rosy Pastors, Purple Moorhen, the Black-tailed Godwit, Spoonbills, Wigeon, Common Teal, and Pelican are the most common birds found here. Besides, there is a zoo with open enclosures for wild animals. The Place looks best during sunrise and sunset and one must visit it in the early mornings or evenings.

Ram Van Rajkot

Ram Van , the urban forest, was inaugurated by Gujrat’s chief minister on 17th August 2022 in Rajkot. This is one of the best places to visit in Rajkot to enjoy a relaxing day trip. You can find more than 60 thousand trees of around 50-60 different species here.

There are also 22 sculptures built, depicting various events of Ramayana. You can have a relaxed day here enjoying nature, listening to devotional music, and clicking photos in the beautiful background. Your kids get a chance to learn about the epic Ramayana in a fun way. Kids can also enjoy playing at the playground here. The place also has an electric car ride facility which gives you a chance to explore the entire Ram Van.

Chotila Temple

Chotila is a small village located in the Gujarat region of India. It is situated on a plateau, surrounded by hills and valleys. The village is home to a number of temples, including the famous Chotila temple, dedicated to the deity Lord Vishnu. The temple is said to be over 1000 years old, and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus.

Chotila is also known for its beautiful scenery, with many flowers and trees growing in the area. Visitors can also enjoy views of the nearby mountains. In addition, Chotila is home to a number of shops and restaurants, making it an ideal place to explore Indian culture.

3. The Eldorado Park

An amusement park located approx. 20 km outside the city. It caters to all age groups who want to chill out on a weekend. The park boasts of around 22 thrill rides and 12 water rides. Eldorado is a place to spend an entire day with family. Eldorado Park also has a 7D theater, rain dance, and smashing cars. Entry tickets can be bought separately for the Water Park and amusement park with lunch options.

If you want to experience nature, then you must visit Pradhyuman Park Zoo. It is located near Lalpari Lake; this park is sprawled across an area of 137 acres. Pradyuman Park hosts many animal species and plants that you can see during the trip. Golf cart services are available for senior citizens.

5. Ishwariya Park 

Ishwariya Park is one of the main attractions in the city for young people and photographers. It’s a green zone spread over 77 acres on the city outskirts.
