If a company is capable to steal…

If a company is capable to steal copyrighted images without consent from the copyright holder, then there is also a likelihood that they rip-off their cistomers one way or another. I would not trust them no matter how shiny and clean their facades are presented. Shame on you for not paying a simple license for commercial use.

How wonderful Vietnam and Go Asia Travel

I really enjoyed the tour. The places where we visited were great. The company gave us an excellent service. You should definitely visit Vietnam. There is no word that can describe how pretty Vietnam. Thanks Go Asia Travel Vietnam.

The best tour operator in Vietnam

It's an excellent experience with GAT Travel. I have an absolutely excellent tour guide to go with. He spoke English exactly like a native, answered all our questions honestly about his country! We feel a little shame because we asked him a lot and he was feeling absolute no hesitation to answer them all We're so happy that We were booking tours through Go Asia Travel. Booking online is so easy, no hassle, just fill out some details and they call you back to confirm your hotel address to pick up…Believe it or not! I joined with them to go to Halong bay for one day, Tam Coc for one day, Sapa for 5 days, everything was running smoothly. Price was fair, not high. All meals are so delicious, transportation was safe and comfortable, beautiful highlight Vietnam scenery. Love it! Vietnam is such a beautiful country we will come back another time soon. Recommend this tour operator to all of our family, friends!

17 day Vietnam and Cambodia _ fabulous

In 2015 we toured Vietnam and Cambodia with this outstanding company and were pleasantly surprised with this professional, reliable and friendly company. From the moment we landed in Hanoi to our return from Cambodia we were treated wonderfully by all this companies agents. We will use this outstanding company again in the future and would recommend them without hesitation. Well done goasiatravel! And all who work there.

It is the really good tour operator in Vietnam I have ever tried

We went to Hanoi, Halong Bay and Sapa through Go Asia travel Vietnam , through out the planning process Mr Martin was the one that communicated with me. He is very effecient and professional with his job , he even rang me just to find out everythings was o.k during our stay in Hanoi. He organised everything from airport tranfer , hotel, city tour, Halong Bay, train to Sapa, and everything went smoothly without a hitch. The hotel we stayed was Hanoi Diamond, walk to the Hoan Kiem Lake and also 5min. walk to all the shopping area, even though it is in the middle of the hustle and bustle of eveything, we can not hear a thing from our room at all. I will highly recommend Go Asia travel Vietnam for your trip, do PM me if you have any queries.

Become friends just after halong daily tour

We joined A Day tour on Halong Bay organized by GAT travel on 26 Apr 2011. The tour was booked the day before at their travel desk in my Hotel. The travel consultant was polite and professional. The guide, Mr. Nam, was excellent though. He went the extra mile to show us not one but two caves which are really amazing. Just too bad I was running low on Vietnamese Dong (the smallest US dollar bill I had was $100) so I cannot give more tip than I wished I could. Cruise was new and well maintained. Food was delicious and enormous. 12 of us have become friends after this tour. Thanks Imperial hotel and GAT travel for my great experience in Hanoi.

Highly recommended Go ASIA travel for Vietnam Tours

we took a “Discover Vietnam Culture Tour” with GAT travel in Apr and had a great of fun. I can not find the word to express the thankfulness to our guide throughout the trip as he was willing to be a funny friend of my little kids. He was helpful and gentle. Mekong , Hoi An and Da nang city was our favorite destinations. Our kids enjoyed playing there very much. My husband and I liked the cruise in Mekong Delta region and wished that we could stay a couple of days more. Making friends and learning about local life made us fell exciting, the guide also made us felt at home. The only thing I wish to change in our trip is to get far away from such a crowded cave in Halong Bay. The cave was so amazing but too many tourists, visiting somewhere less touristy could be fine Thanks so much and highly recommended GAT travel to all.

Trekking in the mountainous area was…

Trekking in the mountainous area was always a dream of my life. But choosing from one of the highest peaks was always the hardest things to do. Then Mount Manaslu genuinely came in my mind. Then I and some of my closest friends made a plan to Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal. This was the first time being away of native home as well, but our guide brother made us feel so comfortable and relief from homesickness. Manaslu Circuit Trek was itself a god gifted place with its extreme nature beauty, amazing mountain views and surroundings. Going through the steeps up and downs, entering homes , sitting for conversations with the locals of the village, and having simple lunch was so fabulous . It was out of the thought that we are feeling such a comfortable in the land of the towering mountain peaks. We had so many of memories in the Manaslu diaries. Yak ride was one of my favorite memories among those. Due to the steep way, I had a cramp in my leg. So yak ride for some hours to our hotel room was the best option by our guide. After some hours of rests my leg was absolutely fine. I realized why the medicinal herbs of villages are so important and valuable to heal. Then the next day was the day to returned Kathmandu. So early in the morning we left for Kathmandu. The Manaslu tour was super cool. Thanks to Nepal Holiday Treks and Tours Pvt. Ltd for making our Manaslu trek an awesome experiences ever. I would like to recommend Nepal Holiday Treks and Tours for everyone for all kinds of thrilling adventures to happen in the best way. It also provides you with a perfect food and accommodation before and after the trek.

Is affordable luxury in Southeast Asia a myth? We went to find out.

There’s a popular refrain Western travelers repeat about Southeast Asia: “The flight’s expensive , but once you get there everything’s cheap.” You can find “White Lotus” luxuries for Holiday Inn prices, they say.

When I moved to Bangkok in 2014 , I learned quickly that wasn’t the whole story, and I had a dwindling savings account to prove it. Yes, you could get street food for $1 and massages for less than $10. And you could also blow money eating , drinking and traveling like anywhere else.

But Southeast Asia’s reputation of luxury for less is not necessarily a myth , particularly when comparing it to other popular destinations. In January, average nightly hotel rates were $126 in Bangkok, according to STR , a hospitality data and analytics company, lower than $151 in London, $391 in Hawaii and $145 in Tokyo.

Unlike in those other locales, “in most parts of Thailand, $100 a night is going to get you something really, really nice,” said Robert Sukrachand , a furniture designer who splits his time between Chiang Mai, Thailand, and New York.

Myriad factors contribute to lower prices in the region, such as how far the dollar goes, labor costs and the lower cost of living in most of Southeast Asia compared with the United States. And like many other tourist-heavy destinations, what’s a deal for Western tourists could be out of reach for many locals.

To find deals, Sukrachand says you’ll have to do some research on local favorites and price standards. Having a baseline of what things cost is helpful to get the most value out of your trip. Finding lower prices usually means getting away from the well-trodden tourist paths of Phnom Penh or Penang, and skipping the tuk-tuks closest to the popular temples.

If you want to save on hotels, look for a boutique property

On a recent trip to Las Vegas , my off-the-Strip hotel room with a Murphy bed cost $185 per night. A month before that, I paid $134 for a motel off the freeway in Iowa . For $10 less than my Iowa rate, I got a suite with a living room and two balconies overlooking a canal at the Siamotif Boutique Hotel in Bangkok.

I followed the advice of Katie Carew , a luxury travel adviser with the Travel Edge Network, who told me local brands offered better deal than international ones. I ended up at Siamotif, a traditional Thai wooden house with seven guest rooms, each with its own name and unique design. Technically, it was a three-star property but had a “superb” rating on Booking.com . Every morning, my complimentary breakfast was made from scratch; a Thai omelet with red curry and chicken one day, nam prik ong with rice and vegetables the next.

When it comes to hotels in Bangkok, it’s a buyers market. The country has an oversupply of traveler accommodations, and the hotel industry is continuing to expand, according to an analysis from Krungsri Thai bank. I could have found less-expensive hotels, even ones in the center of the city or in sleek high-rise buildings with sweeping views. More expensive options can be found closer to tourist hot spots — just like prices rise the closer you get to the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the beach in Waikiki — or with international brands.

“Whether you are in New York City or Switzerland or Vietnam, the highest level hotel is pretty much the same price across the world,” Carew said.

In Vietnam, I wanted to splurge in between overnight train rides from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi. I could go all out at Vedanā Lagoon Resort & Spa near Danang, where overwater villas ran just over $200 per night. Instead of faking a honeymoon, I went to their sister property, the Pilgrimage Village Boutique Resort & Spa in Hue. At check-in, staff gave me a little tapioca and banana dessert, a cup of ginger tea and a frozen hand towel. My “Deluxe Double” room — a short walk away from the pool and swim-up bar — was $96 and came with a buffet breakfast, morning tai chi and yoga, and a 30-minute spa voucher.

I did get burned by a few local hotels’ misleading photos and descriptions. In Phuket, my $76-per-night “boutique hotel” turned out to be a dank cement cube with a hard bed — and not in a chic minimalist way. And in Hanoi, my $30 hotel “Superior room” didn’t have a window and was so small I could barely open the door.

Khoa Nguyen, who co-owns the Vietnam travel company In Country Tours with his wife, Michelle, says luxury hotels have been faring better since the pandemic than others. “Many of the two, three, four-star hotels are not up to standard yet,” Nguyen said. “The five-stars are more reliable.”

Seek out self care where locals go

Wellness is a cornerstone of tourism in Southeast Asia, but it’s not just for tourists. “Massage is not really a luxury in Thailand,” Sukrachand said. “It’s something that people all over the country — even in rural areas — have built into their culture.”

I had afternoon massages in Bangkok and Phuket to help with jet lag and recover from full days of walking. Instead of going to luxury hotels where rates were close to those I’d find at home in D.C., I went with smaller places that catered to both locals and tourists. I paid $5 for a 30-minute foot massage, $8 for an hour-long massage and $55 full-body oil massage at a more upscale spa in a private room.

The further from tourist areas, the better the rates. At a market between a college and a hospital, I got an $18 manicure and pedicure that was so perfect, I had to leave a review .

In Vietnam, I needed a different kind of spa after nearly two weeks of dining out and sweating on the backs of motorbikes in humid cities. To address my acne flare-up, I searched Google Maps for “medical spa” in Hanoi and found a same-day appointment to see a dermatologist. For $21, I had a consultation with the doctor, was given an hour-long treatment from a nurse practitioner who steamed and massaged my face, performed some pore extractions, applied a thick goopy peel-off mask and finished with LED light therapy .

World-class dining for a midrange bill

I landed in Vietnam ready to eat, particularly in Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnamese American writer Dan Dao, who’s based there, noted the only place on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list in Vietnam is based in the city.

That restaurant is Anan , where the 1o-course tasting menu costs $100 — a fraction of the $425, 10-course tasting menu at another 50 Best restaurant, SingleThread Farm in California. Still, I opted to order from the a la carte menu. My elaborate gin cocktail, glass bottle of sparkling water, three dishes, tax and service charge totaled $47, by far my most expensive meal of the trip. I offset that by having a $2 banh mi lunch the next day.

While high-end restaurants cater to wealthy locals, international travelers and expats, Vietnam’s street food and mom-and-pop shops are for everyone, even those who can afford nicer restaurants, Dao says. You’ll find the city’s wealthy eating at inexpensive places “because the quality is simply the best for those kinds of dishes,” he said.

Dao says like in the United States, there’s a perception in Vietnam that certain Asian food — like street food — should be cheap, which can be limiting to business owners. But in Vietnam, it can be easier to keep prices down when businesses can operate from home or without a brick-and-mortar shop and “the cost of goods is just lower,” Dao said.

After dinner at Anan, I considered going to award-winning bars like Nhau Nhau or the Alley , where average cocktail prices are $5 to $6; the equivalent in D.C. would be $14. In Bangkok, prices are a little steeper at the city’s top bars and restaurants. “The food and cocktail scene in Bangkok now is as good if not better than New York City,” Sukrachand said, both in terms of design and quality, and for cuisine beyond Thai food.

You can bounce around the city’s best cocktail spots like Tep Bar and Tropic City for $12 a drink. Elaborate tasting menus at the one-Michelin star Nahm cost between $75 and $93; my mom and I saved on the bill a few years ago by going for lunch a la carte. At a beachside restaurant in Phuket, I had an amazing plate of fried clams in sweet chile sauce, a massive yellow crab curry, rice and beer for $22. At the Thai place across the street from my apartment in D.C., curries start at $16.

Private tours aren’t just for wealthy tourists

Sukrachand told me that in Thailand, “some of the best food is some of the least expensive food, but ... without somebody showing you around, you’re not necessarily going to find it.” It was a good reminder to book some food tours on my trip. For $25, I joined a group tour in Hanoi and ate delicious food at seven places that I would have never found on my own. For $65, I booked a half-day private excursion in Hue with Nguyen’s In Country Tours. The extra $40 made the experience feel above my pay grade.

When the wealthy travel , they don’t do it with the masses. They go private — private villas, private guides, private planes. The average traveler can get a taste of that in Southeast Asia.

For $17, my Bangkok hotel offered to arrange a private airport pickup , the kind where the driver waits in the terminal with your name on a sign and has cold water for you in the car. For $23, I took a Muay Thai class in Phuket with private instruction. My private tour in Hue was $65 and included transportation to and from my hotel, plus dining at places where Anthony Bourdain ate. I didn’t feel like a tourist; I felt like a celebrity with a fixer.

All of these cost more than the lowest-priced options, but paying a little more went so much further.

Is affordable luxury in Southeast Asia a myth? We went to find out.

MH370 Disappeared a Decade Ago. Here’s What We Know Today.

The disappearance of the Malaysia Airlines flight has remained one of the greatest aviation mysteries of all time. A new search may begin soon.

By Derrick Bryson Taylor

On March 8, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was heading from Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital, to Beijing, when it deviated from its scheduled path, turning west across the Malay Peninsula.

The plane, a Boeing 777 carrying 239 people from 15 countries, is believed to have veered off course and flown south for several hours after radar contact was lost. Some officials believe it may have crashed somewhere in the southern Indian Ocean after running out of fuel, but expansive search efforts over years have returned no answers, no victims, and no plane.

The reason the plane went off course and its exact location today remains one of the greatest aviation mysteries of all time. This week, officials suggested a renewed search operation might be undertaken.

Here’s a brief look at what we know about the plane’s disappearance 10 years later.

Investigators searched by air and sea.

The first phase of the search lasted 52 days and was conducted largely from the air, covering 1.7 million square miles and involving 334 search flights.

In January 2017, the governments of Australia, Malaysia and China officially called off the underwater search for the plane after combing more than 46,000 square miles of the Indian Ocean floor. That effort cost $150 million.

The following January, the Malaysian government began another search in partnership with Ocean Infinity after receiving pressure from families of the missing passengers and crew. After a few months, the search effort led by Ocean Infinity ended, having found no evidence of the plane’s whereabouts.

Was any debris ever found?

While a wrecked plane was never found, about 20 pieces of debris believed to be from the plane were located along the coasts of the African mainland and on the islands of Madagascar, Mauritius, Réunion and Rodrigues.

In summer 2015, investigators determined that a large object that washed up on the shore of Réunion , a French island in the Indian Ocean, was a flaperon that had come from a Boeing 777, making it likely that it was debris from Flight 370.

Another piece of debris, a triangular piece of fiberglass composite and aluminum with the words “No Step” written on its side, was found in February 2016 on an uninhabited sandbank along the coast of Mozambique.

Then, the Australian government confirmed in September 2016 that a wing flap that had washed onto a Tanzanian island was from Flight 370. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau matched its identifying numbers to those of the missing Boeing 777.

What are the theories around the plane’s disappearance?

There are a multitude of theories, ranging from the bizarre to the provocative, about what caused the plane to disappear. In fact, there are too many to name here. The lack of information about what happened to the flight led the public and investigators in several directions.

Some officials believe that the plane ran out of fuel , and one theory holds that the pilots tried to make an emergency landing at sea. Others suggest that one or both pilots lost control of the aircraft, that one was a rogue pilot, or that the plane was hijacked.

What did the official government report say?

After more than four years of searches and investigations, a 495-page report released in 2018 gave no conclusive answers as to the fate of the airliner. The lack of concrete answers devastated families of the victims, who had been hoping for some closure.

Kok Soo Chon, the head of the safety investigation team, said the available evidence — including the plane’s manual deviation from its flight course and the switching off of a transponder — “irresistibly point” to “unlawful interference,” which might suggest the plane was hijacked. But there was no evidence of who might have interfered, or why.

The report also closely examined all passengers and the pilot, Zaharie Ahmad Shah, and the first officer, Fariq Abdul Hamid. The report looked into the men’s financial statuses, health, tone of voice on radio communications and even their gait as they walked to work that day. No abnormalities were detected.

What happens next?

Now, a decade after the plane’s disappearance with no concrete answers or plane found, a new search could soon be underway.

Malaysian officials said in a statement this week that the government was ready to discuss a new search operation after being approached by Ocean Infinity.

Oliver Plunkett, the chief executive of Ocean Infinity, said in a statement that the company was now in a position to search again about six years after its previous effort returned no answers.

“This search is arguably the most challenging, and indeed pertinent one out there,” he said. “We’ve been working with many experts, some outside of Ocean Infinity, to continue analyzing the data in the hope of narrowing the search area down to one in which success becomes potentially achievable.”

Forget the "quarter-life crisis." These days, millennials are turning to the " quarter-life sabbatical ."

Amid the waves of mass layoffs, people are choosing to repurpose their unemployment into soul-searching, and many are extending their time away from the cubicle to travel the world.

Peter Lancaster, 31, was laid off from his technology job in California in May last year. Although he was sad to leave a job he loved, it was finally an opportunity for him to take a real break and enjoy life a little.

By the end of June, he sold most of his belongings, put the rest in storage, handed his cat to a friend and left for his first destination — Mexico City .

For the next eight months, Lancaster traveled to eight different countries: Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Guatemala, Japan, Ecuador and Brazil. He said he spent about $20,000 during that time.

His plane tickets and transportation ended up being his highest expenses.

While Colombia and Guatemala were the most affordable destinations, Argentina and the Galapagos Islands were the most expensive, he added.

Here are six things he learned during his adventure abroad.

Be flexible

The biggest principle Lancaster stuck to while traveling overseas was staying flexible and knowing that plans can change along the way.

About six months into his travels, Peter met and fell in love with his girlfriend Alejandra, or as he likes to call, his "pp" (short for "Peruvian Princess").

His initial plan was to stay in Peru for four days, but after meeting Alejandra, he extended it to six weeks.

"I met her in Peru — in Cusco. I was doing laundry and she saw that I was struggling, so she helped me out and then we decided to get drinks," he told CNBC Make It .

"You think you would want to make an itinerary, but truthfully, your plan changes so much with who you meet," he said. "Be open minded to change your motive from seeing as much as possible to maybe just spending time with somebody for a bit."

"It's a lot easier to be flexible when you have a 'to be determined' timeline," he added.

Pack lightly

"I never had more than a week's worth of clothes," he said. "Downside is that I had to find a laundry place, but upside is that you can move around so easily."

For the first three weeks, he only traveled with a small backpack. Along the way, he was able to purchase items he needed.

Carrying less allowed him to be more agile when plans inevitably changed.

Be friendly

After first landing in Mexico City, Lancaster began to be homesick. "I wanted to go home because I was like: 'oh, it's going to be a long journey,'" he said. "But then then I started making friends and got comfortable real quick."

For most of the trip, he chose to stay in hostels as a way to save money, as well as to meet fellow travelers.

"Just start talking to people," he said. "Everyone's really approachable and thinking the same thing."

Travel smart

When traveling around foreign countries, it is important to maintain a level of caution.

"I think it's always good to just have a mentality that a lot of people might be trying to rip you off," Lancaster said. When making purchases or decisions, he suggests: "Take your time."

If something is too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true. Peter Lancaster Traveler

"Especially in a foreign country, use the buddy system," he said.

Locals can usually tell if you are a foreigner, which can put you in a compromised position. So it's important to be always aware of your surroundings and the situation.

Enjoy local cuisine

"I don't understand people that like go travel and eat burgers and pizza," he said. "Going to McDonald's is more expensive than some of these local places."

During his time abroad, Lancaster made it a point to enjoy the local cuisine, which added to his travel experience.

More to life than work

On Feb. 29, Lancaster returned to the United States feeling happy with everything he had experienced.

"If I had an unlimited budget, I'd probably keep going, but I felt like I just I saw everything and I was ready to work," he said.

"I feel content... it's just nice to have time off and have like a different routine than going to work," he said.

When asked why he went on the adventure, Lancaster said: "I guess it was more of a sense that if you were to die tomorrow, having on your tombstone the only thing you did was to work ... at least I can check one thing off."
