Mushroomhead – are one of the most unique and adventurous alternative metal bands working today. Known for their stunningly theatrical live show and artsy masks, this innovative band has forged new ground in the rock world and influenced many other bands to push the envelope and bring art into rock. Formed in the early-1990s in Cleveland Ohio, the band’s combination of metal, rock and atmospheric elements has struck a chord with thousands of fans worldwide.
Mushroomhead have been performing incognito since 1993, when drummer Skinny founded the band. The band was meant to be a side-project so they wore masks to go unrecognized, but after only a few shows they developed a rabid and loyal fan base in Cleveland. Mushroomhead released their 1995 self-titled debut album independently and it went on to became an underground hit. This was history in the making because the band really had no proper distribution. Superbuick followed in 1996 and M3 in 1999, all released via an underground street effort.
After the band felt its image and hyper-melodic, heavy style of music was being diluted by other bands jumping into this space, the band started to change their look to reflect nothing out there. After a brief stint on Eclipse Records, a move to Universal Records saw the release of XX (a combination of the past independent releases) in 2001 and XIII in 2003. The band’s last album sold over 200,000 units in the USA alone. Mushroomhead released Savior Sorrow for the pioneering rock label, Megaforce Records (Metallica, Anthrax, Ministry, Warren Haynes, Bad Brains) in 2006. Mushroomhead released “Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children” in the Fall of 2010 and it debuted at #44 on Billboard charts.
It can be said that Mushroomhead’s musical ascendance was a singular, original, aesthetic of eight guys decked out in matching jumpsuits and artsy masks, playing unbelievable, unsettling music. No other band was wearing masks and jumpsuits and purveying this type of ultra-melodic, ultra-dynamic music at the time – Mushroomhead sounded like nothing else. The band’s merging of metal, atmospheric elements, rock, and theatrics mixed with a punk DIY attitude has inspired and spawned other bands. Even though Mushroomhead’s music is rock-leaning in thought, the group remains firmly committed to pushing the envelope and trying new things.
Influences range from the driving rhythms and breakneck turns of Pantera, to the dark melodies of Faith No More, to the atmospheric stylings of Pink Floyd, but all done in Mushroomhead style.

Mushroomhead is an American metal band from Cleveland, Ohio which formed in 1993 and currently consists of Jeffrey Nothing and several other musicians.
Lead singer Jeffrey Nothing, drummer Skinny and keyboardist Shmotz are the only consistent members of Mushroomhead since its formation in 1993, they have seen various line up changes over the years yet their alternative metal sound has not varied greatly. Their music has a traditional heavy metal sound merged with influences of experimental genres such as techno, new age and even hip hop at times. They have named Pink Floyd, Pantera, Nine Inch Nails and Rammstein as major influences on their music and style.
The band has released all seven of their major albums on the Dirty Hands label, their first appearance on the US album charts came in 2003 with 'XIII' which peaked at #40. Their highest charting position to date is the 2014 album 'The Righteous & The Butterfly' which debuted at #20 and also topped the US Indie and Hard Rock charts.
The band is known for having an ongoing feud with Ohio metal band Slipknot mainly induced by their fan bases. There are similarities with the two bands stage personas including the use of masks and costumes. It seemed to conclude in 2009 after both sides stated in interviews they had no problem with each other and claimed the feud was mainly down to their fan bases' loyal nature. In 2010 when Paul Gray of Slipknot died Mushroomhead responded with a post on their Myspace page reading: "R.I.P. Paul Gray, This feud needs to end. Much Love and Respect to the guys in Slipknot".
Live reviews
US alt-metal band Mushroomhead’s long career has been rather unfairly overshadowed by their reported feud with Slipknot, which mainly stemmed from their joint penchants for theatrical costumes (rumour has it that Slipknot stole their look from Mushroomhead, who were then forced to change up their trademark appearance). Although both bands play a form of demented heavy metal, in truth they occupied different space; there is and has always been room for both bands.
Formed in 1993, Mushroomhead – who have always had a rotating lineup and can feature up to nine members at one time – were initially lumped in the nu-metal pile, but they really make a more interesting fusion of industrial metal and Faith No More-esque experimental metal. I have only seen them live once: at Ozzfest, Donnington Park, in 2002. The masked metal mob were touring their major label debut, XX, and delivered a riotous set (literally – the venue had reached capacity and the attendees stuck outside broke down the barriers and flooded in). Fronted by two charismatic singers, Jeffrey Nothing (clean Mike Patton-esque vocals) and J Mann (hard shouting vocals), who recently rejoined the band after nearly a decade in the wilderness, Mushroomhead smashed through tracks like ‘Before I Die’ and synth-laden hit ‘Solitaire/Unravelling’ with demonic passion. Now the feud is well and truly over, there is talk of a Slipknot-Mushroomhead tour. That would be a spectacle worth seeing…

Mushroomhead are one of my very favorite bands. I've seen them three times this year! They always put everything they've got into their performances. Audiences love to slam dance and there's always an active mosh pit with crowd surfing.
The singers will step out into the crowd allowing us to hold them up. They're very interactive. My friend looks exactly like Jeff Bridges and showed up to the show dressed as the White Russian drinking character, The Dude in the Big Lebowski. The lead singer gave him props and bought him a White Russian that he gave to him from the stage. It was just incredible. These guys are outstanding artists.
Their masks are incredibly theatrical and intricate which adds to the mystique of the show. Definitely check them out. If you're a Slipknot fan, you will surely like Mushroomhead - but the show is far more intimate with ability to interact with the performers. I will never miss a Mushroomhead show.
Went to this show at Rex Theater in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, only to see 'The Browning.' Dispute their appearance being listed on their official webpage and every ticket vender I had come across. They did not make their scheduled appearance. Even worse, the cancellation was never denoted or even explained. So I we got slammed listening to a bunch of shit bands that sound nothing like them.
always a great show, but this one was shorter than usual and kind of disappointed that 43 and/or 1200 wasn't played. First time in 8 shows for me that I didn't hear those. They are always crowd favorites. This was the largest crowd that I had seen at the Summit, but not as interactive, a lot of new songs that the crowd didn't know.
Great show at The Chance. Was awesome finally getting to see these guys live and they sounded fantastic!! The stage presence was impressive. The rotation of drummers was pretty killer. Like I mentioned this was my 1st time seeing them live so it was a great experience. Hope to see them again soon!! Support \m/METAL\m/
I'd never seen Mushroomhead before but a co-worker recommended them to me. So I went and it was an awesome show. They made a new fan out of me for sure. I was in the emergency room that evening and went straight to the show after getting released by the doctor. I'm really glad I made it to the show on-time!
First of all I'd been trying to see Mushroomhead for over 6years. Finally being able to go and letting loose was incredibly satisfying. Me and my other half
Headbandged and got into the pit we enjoyed every moment. Ear's ringing and body acked for days.
Can't wait to do I again!!
The MACHINE SHOP is a fantastic venue,I've been ther 9 times 7 of those were to see MUSHROOMHEAD IT WAS A AWESOME NITE

The evolution of Mushroomhead!!!
Mushroomhead **** I have always been a fan of Mushroomhead , but I have to say in recent years I have got very confused with all the line-up changes. I really don't know which members I am going to see in the band from one day to the next. But I have to say whatever members they have in the band, it doesn't seem to effect the live show that much. Mushroomhead all seem to know how to put on a great show, so it's always worth going to see them. Ok it has been a few years since they last played in the UK , because of Covid-19's and the lockdowns that have been happening all over the World.
The line-up changes for the European tour are vocalist Jason “J Mann” Popson (Rap / Harsh Vocals) is currently sitting out from touring with the band, and VentanA ‘s Scott Beck has taken his place in the band. Sampler Rick “St1tch” Thomas (Samples / Electronics / Keyboards / Percussion) is also said to be absent from the band’s current tours, so he can focus on his upcoming haunted house attraction. Hopefully we will give you more information on that shortly, we like all things spooky. Furthermore, Jackie LaPonza (Vocals) and Tom “Tankx” Shaffner (Guitar) have both exited the band. Joe “Jenkins” Gaal (Guitar) has replaced Tankx and Aydin Michael (Samples / Electronics / Keyboards / Percussion) appears to be filling in for St1tch . Yes! all very confusing, I know I get confused.
They open up the set with the 2021 single 'A Requiem for Tomorrow' , which is an amazing track and shows Mushroomhead off at their best. Sadly because of the state of the World , I think not as many people got to hear it as normal. But this still got half a million views on YouTube, showing their is a lot of interest around the World for the band. This is shown by the next song in the bands set 'Seen it All' which has almost four and a half million views, this is an anthem of a song and one of #the best moments in the bands set. I think this is a song Mushroomhead will be playing for years to come in their live set, other great moments include when the singers go into the crowd to get connected with the audience.
Watch! the Video for 'Seen it All' Below...
And my two of my favourite songs ' Qwerty' and 'Sun doesn't Rise', both very popular songs for the band and both of these don't disappoint tonight. Vocalist Steve Rauckhorst who has now earned his full time place in the band, works well with new vocalist Scott Beck , they have a real connection together and on these two songs it is shown the best in the bands set. What is great about tonight's set is that they have included songs from all era's of Mushroomhead, so fans of any album get what they want. It's great to hear early songs like ' Solitaire / Unraveling', 'Bwomp', and 'Before I Die' , I remember hearing these on their Ozzfest festival dates years ago and they are equally as good live now.
The great thing about Mushroomhead is the tightness, and musicianship and their use of timing some in sync and some out... but everything done on purpose. They also know how to command a stage, and they know how to connect to an audience and give everyone what they want. No one is ever disappointed at a Mushroomhead show, and you always get a few surprises and don't know what to expect next. Well I have learned to try and guess, because Skinny always tries to get me with a bucket of water. I have learned over the years to duck, and hide... meaning he has not got me in a while. You always get a little wet from the water drums, but no buckets where present in London ... to my relief.
A nice edition to the bands set is 'Empty Spaces', their cover of the classic Pink Floyd song. I have heard this song done live before, and they do really justice to the Prog Rock legends. One of the low points of the set for me is hardly seeing Steve "Skinny" Felton the co / founding member of Mushroomhead , he is normally a striking figure on the drums at the back of the stage. But he only seems to be a looming - onlooking figure at the side of the stage that only seems to come on for very small sections of time to hit the water drums, which is a real shame because we all want to see more of him more.
I really love Mushroomhead and they have influenced so many major Metal / Rock bands around at the moment, which they really don't get the credit they deserve for doing this and sometimes overlooked. This really needs to change, because Mushroomhead are a very important band to all the genres they cross over into. Ok I have to admit I do miss J Mann and Jeremy Nothing at points in the perfromance, but the new members really do justice to the music... so I would still advise you go and see them. And don't let this put you off going, because the live show is still amazing. There are a few problems at the venue tonight, which have led to a lot of people not being happy, but I don't want to get into that. Because we are hear to talk about the music and Mushroomhead's performance, which I really enjoyed. Looking forward to more tours by them in 2023 and hopefully new music, including the new members.

Mushroomhead’s spectacular Fall 2023 tour arrived in Knoxville, Tennessee on October 11, 2023, boasting an astonishing lineup that surpassed all expectations. The evening promised an epic display of theatricality, magic, and gothic delight for fans of both the band and the horror and music genres. Mushroomhead, now in their 30th year, demonstrated that they show no signs of slowing down and remain masters of their craft.
The night commenced with Fleischkrieg, the opening act, who treated the audience to an industrial blend intertwined with a Cyberpunk Deathwave sound that resonated throughout the venue. Their sound and captivating goth aesthetic set a Club Sinister vibe in Knoxville, setting the mood for the night to come. This German-inspired band’s eight-song set ignited the crowd and kicked off the evening with a bang that would continue to escalate.
Next up was Kurt Deimer, who began with a spine-tingling introduction about his upcoming horror films, set to release in the next year. The band wasted no time and dived into their performance, delivering heavy riffs and captivating the infectious crowd. Kurt and his crew played a plethora of songs, including a fantastic heavy metal rendition of Pink Floyd’s “Cigar,” leaving the audience in awe.
The Hellzapoppin Circus Sideshow was the next act to grace the audience, featuring Ringmaster Bryce “The Govna” Graves, Sword Swallower and Fire Eater Willow Lauren, the half-man sideshow performer Shorty, and Shock Illusionist Dan Sperry. The sideshow theatrics alone were worth the price of admission, with fire swallowing, razor blade consumption, screwdriver head penetrations, and unexplainable illusions that even burst images can’t clarify. The show concluded with Willow swallowing swords seemingly as long as her torso. Hellzapoppin is not for the faint of heart or those with weak stomachs, but for those who can handle it, it’s an astounding performance full of wonder and awe.
Finally, after a series of exceptional support acts, Mushroomhead took the stage to thunderous applause. Their shows are renowned for their crowd interaction, and this performance was no exception. Various band members ventured into the crowd to surf and stand amidst the audience, including vocalists Steve Rauckhorst and Jackie LaPonza. Steve and Scott Beck, during several songs, leaned over the barricade to sing with the audience. On the theatrical side, the band entertained with explosive water drums, guitarist Joe Gaal and bassist Ryan Farrell struck freakishly awesome poses that could haunt your dreams, and at center stage, a mesmerizing drum set with spinning rims stole the spotlight. Band members periodically spun these bass drums throughout the show, showing their own delight in the spectacle. Mushroomhead demonstrated that they haven’t lost their edge in their three-decade-long journey as one of the most entertaining live acts in the industry.
Mushroomhead’s 30th-anniversary tour is a must-see, offering a diverse range of acts, including a circus sideshow. The band is renowned for its fan-centric approach, interacting with their fanbase in an unprecedented way. If the tour comes to your area, don’t miss it. It’s a masterclass in stage presence and performance.

Toyah Willcox & Robert Fripp announce ‘Christmas Party’ 2024 UK tour
"The whole world loves classic rock and wants to let their hair down at Christmas! Who better to do that with than two rock legends"
Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox have announced a 2024 winter ‘Christmas Party’ tour set to kick off towards the end of the year.

Following the success of their Sunday Lunch YouTube series and their critically acclaimed Tour of ’23, Willcox and Fripp are set to embark on a string of string of live dates during the holidays.
The couple will kick off the shows on December 16 at the Queens Hall in Edinburgh. From there, they will make their way to Sunderland, Bath, and London before wrapping up the dates on December 22 at the Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton.

Robert Fripp & Toyah Willcox’s Christmas Party 2024 UK tour dates are:
DECEMBER 16 – Edinburgh, Queens Hall 17 – Sunderland, The Fire Station 19 – Bath, Komedia 20 – London, Indigo At The O2 22 – Wolverhampton, Wulfrun Hall
Speaking about the tour in a press release, Willcox said: “It is inevitable that our kitchen high jinx hits the road, because, as Sunday Lunch has proven, the whole world loves classic rock and wants to let their hair down at Christmas! Who better to do that with than two rock legends, who can really rock out and make you laugh at the same time!”
Last month, the pair performed a cover of the Beastie Boys classic ‘Fight For Your Right’ for their latest ‘Sunday Lunch’ performance .
The rendition of the iconic ‘80s hit comes as the latest instalment to the married couple’s long-running ‘Sunday Lunch’ video series – which sees them put their own spin on rock classics from their home.
Although no longer a weekly series as it was in past years, the two still share the odd new video, and this time it sees them take on a Beastie Boys classic.
Last year, the pair brought their viral lockdown concept to the live stage at Glastonbury , where they performed David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’.
They also looked back at the success of their series backstage with NME , sharing that the response “did surprise us”.
“We were going for about eight months and it was growing and growing and growing,” Willcox said.
“It started with one very simple post: 28 seconds of us jiving. Within five minutes it got about 100,000 replies from across the world. At that point, we realised that we’d posted something that basically cheered people up who were alone in lockdown.”
