Now that you know where to purchase Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards online, let’s explore the options available for in-store purchases.

Where to Purchase Norwegian Cruise Line Gift Cards In-Store

If you prefer the traditional brick-and-mortar shopping experience, you can still purchase Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards at select retail locations. Here are some options for in-store purchases:

  • Travel Agencies: Visit a local travel agency that specializes in cruises to inquire about Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards. These agencies often have partnerships with cruise lines and can assist you in selecting and purchasing the gift card.
  • Retail Stores: Some retail stores, such as supermarkets, department stores, and specialty gift shops, may carry Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards. Check with the customer service desk or the gift card section of the store to see if they offer them.
  • Norwegian Cruise Line Gift Card Kiosks: Norwegian Cruise Line may have gift card kiosks in certain locations, such as shopping malls or cruise line terminals. These kiosks allow you to conveniently purchase gift cards on the spot.

When purchasing Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards in-store, it’s important to ensure that the gift card is properly activated and loaded with the desired amount. Check the terms and conditions of the gift card to understand any restrictions or limitations.

Keep in mind that availability may vary depending on the location and the specific retail establishments near you. It’s a good idea to call ahead or check the store’s website before visiting to confirm if they carry Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards.

Now that you know where to find Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards in-store, let’s move on to the next step – redeeming your gift card.

How to Redeem Norwegian Cruise Line Gift Cards

Redeeming your Norwegian Cruise Line gift card is a straightforward process that allows you to enjoy the benefits and experiences it offers. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to redeem your gift card:

  • Booking: Begin by selecting your desired cruise itinerary and travel dates. You can do this by visiting the Norwegian Cruise Line website or contacting their reservations team.
  • Payment: During the booking process, you’ll reach the payment section. Look for the option to apply a gift card and enter the gift card information, including the card number and PIN, if applicable.
  • Verification: After entering the gift card details, the system will verify the balance and validity of the gift card. Once verified, the value of the gift card will be applied to your booking.
  • Confirmation: Once the gift card is successfully applied, you’ll receive a confirmation of the booking, including the amount deducted from the gift card balance.

It’s important to note that Norwegian Cruise Line gift cards can only be used towards the payment of your cruise fare and onboard expenses. They cannot be redeemed for cash and are not applicable to other purchases, such as travel insurance or pre-paid gratuities.

Gift cards can be used for new bookings or to pay any remaining balance on existing bookings. If the gift card balance is insufficient to cover the entire cost, you can pay the remaining balance using other accepted payment methods.

Remember, it’s always a good idea to review the terms and conditions of your gift card to understand any limitations or exclusions before redeeming it.

Now that you know how to redeem your Norwegian Cruise Line gift card, let’s explore some helpful tips and considerations when buying these gift cards.

Cruise line gift cards: Where to buy them, how to spend them

Gwen Pratesi

If you're racking your brain to come up with the perfect gift for your cruise-loving family member or friend, consider buying them a gift card or certificate from their favorite cruise line.

Cruisers will appreciate a gift they can use toward purchasing their cruise fare or splurging on a beverage package, specialty restaurant or spa treatment. Don't rule out the first-timers on your list; you can help them fund their first foray into cruising or surprise them with something extra to make their upcoming trip special.

If you're a cruiser, you may also want to purchase a gift card for yourself, especially when you can find a deal. AARP sometimes offers digital gift cards for cruise lines like Princess, Holland America, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean at a savings of up to 10%.

Gift cards purchased with Target's RedCard receive a 5% discount. You can also look for Black Friday sales on Disney gift cards at Sam's Club and other promotions offered through the cruise lines or retailers.

Not every cruise line offers gift cards, and some have alternative ways to help pay for a portion of someone else's vacation. However, if you're in the market for cruise line gift cards, read on to find out which seven lines offer them, where to buy them and how to use them.

Holland America Line

norwegian cruise lines gift cards

Holland America offers gift cards in denominations between $5 and $2,000 that are available to buy on its website. You can either purchase a physical card to send enclosed with a personal message or choose a digital version that the recipient can open online with personalized audio and photos.

The line offers one or two sales a year that feature an added perk, such as a $100 bonus card with a $1,000 purchase.

You can use the cards to pay for cruise bookings, pre-cruise expenses or onboard charges covering specialty dining, beverages, shore excursions, spa treatments, gratuities and other purchases. They can also be used to buy Holland America's "Have It All" bundle, which includes a beverage package, shore excursion credit, Wi-Fi and specialty restaurant meals.

Holland America's gift cards are also available at online retailers, including Amazon, Target and Walmart, in preset amounts. Certain banks feature credit card programs where you can redeem points for the cruise line's gift cards. If you prefer to shop in person, you'll find gift cards in stores such as Target, Publix, Kroger and Giant Eagle.

Gift cards are only available in U.S. dollars. Gift cards are activated upon receipt, and they cannot be resold. In addition, buyers cannot purchase an aggregate amount exceeding $10,000 in one day.

Princess Cruises

norwegian cruise lines gift cards

Princess Cruises also offers gift cards on its website in denominations between $5 and $2,000. Buyers can personalize the line's eGift Card with photos and audio for the recipient. Princess Classic Gift Cards arrive by mail, with free shipping on cards over $100. Expedited shipping is also available.

You can use Princess gift cards to pay for your cruise, including fares with the Princess Plus and Princess Premier all-inclusive packages .

Recipients can also settle part or all of their onboard bill with gift cards at the end of the cruise at the passenger services desk. That means gift cards can essentially pay for meals in specialty restaurants, shore excursions, spa treatments and other onboard splurges.

You cannot use the gift card to pay for land excursions as part of a cruisetour, flights booked through Princess or gratuities.

You can find Princess gift cards in grocery stores like Kroger, Harris Teeter and Giant Eagle and online at retail sites such as Amazon, Target and Best Buy.

Gift cards are only available to residents in the U.S. and Canada. Classic Gift Cards cannot be mailed to Canada, so Canadian residents should choose the eGift Card option.

Buyers are limited to a $10,000 online aggregate purchase in one day and a maximum of five transactions a day. Anyone can use the gift card since there's no name on the card.

Carnival Cruises

Carnival Cruise Line 's online gift cards are customizable from $100 up to $1,000. You can purchase a physical card that's mailed and even have it wrapped and delivered in a tin for an additional $1.99 (for up to five cards). If you prefer, you can choose an e-gift card that's sent to the recipient online.

The gift card can be used toward a cruise booking, pre-purchased shore excursions or spa treatments. You can also apply it to beverage packages and gratuities. If you'd like to use the card as an onboard credit, you must go to the guest services desk or Sail & Sign kiosk to apply the gift card as payment for your onboard bill once you're on the ship.

Carnival's gift cards are available in over 9,000 retail outlets, including Best Buy, Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons, Lowe's, Safeway, Winn-Dixie and Publix. You can also purchase gift cards on board Carnival's ships. You can buy as many cards as you'd like, but there is a maximum online transaction of five gift cards at one time.

All gift cards are in U.S. dollars and not accepted on ships using a different onboard currency. You can transfer the gift card to another user since there are no names on the cards.

Disney Cruise Line

norwegian cruise lines gift cards

Gift cards for Disney Cruise Line are sold online at shopdisney.com in preset amounts, from $25 to $500. You can choose from over 60 Disney designs of physical gift cards and have them shipped, or you can send a themed eGift Card.

Gift cards are also sold at Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort and Disney retail locations throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada. If you're purchasing them in person, you can load them for any amount from $15 to $1,000. The cards are reloadable with as little as $5 and up to $1,000. They can be reloaded at any location that sells the gift cards. That option is not available online.

Use Disney gift cards to purchase a cruise, shore excursions, merchandise on the ship and other onboard expenses. You can also spend the cards at Disney-owned properties, like Disney's Vero Beach Resort; on trips or cruises with Adventures by Disney; for Disney on Broadway; and at retail stores and other Disney businesses.

You'll also find them in preset amounts at retailers like Target, Walmart and Best Buy.

Norwegian Cruise Line

norwegian cruise lines gift cards

Norwegian Cruise Line ended its gift card program in 2021, but you still can send gifts to cruisers in the form of an onboard credit or spa credit. Onboard credit is available in $25 increments up to $100. Mandara Spa certificates are offered in amounts of $25, $50 and $100.

To send the gift, you'll need to know some personal information, including the birth date of the recipient or the reservation number for the booking. You can order the gift of onboard credits on Norwegian's website.

CruiseFirst certificates are another gift option. These advance purchase vouchers can be used to pay for cruises of six days or longer and are valued at double the price. For example, you'll pay $150 for a certificate worth $300. You can transfer these vouchers to another person as a gift without a charge.

You can purchase up to 10 certificates per person at a time, and they can only be applied to new reservations on voyages scheduled at least 120 days out from the purchase date of the certificate. Only one certificate can be used per sailing — and there are a few other restrictions. These vouchers expire within three years of the purchase date.

Royal Caribbean

norwegian cruise lines gift cards

Royal Caribbean is another line that uses a gift certificate program rather than gift cards. Certificates are available in the following U.S. dollar increments: $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000, $1,500, $1,700 and $2,000. These certificates must be redeemed at least 10 days before the cruise.

Use them to pay the cruise fare, with some restrictions, or apply them toward onboard credit to cover specialty dining, beverage packages, spa treatments, gift shop purchases and other items. If you want to apply the gift certificates as payment for expenses on the ship, you'll need to redeem them online 10 days before the sailing date. They cannot be used for government taxes, fees, gratuities or casino play.

Celebrity Cruises

norwegian cruise lines gift cards

Celebrity Cruises has an online store where you can purchase onboard credit to celebrate someone's birthday, honeymoon, anniversary or other memorable occasion while on their cruise.

Gift certificates are available in $25 increments. These certificates can be purchased online if you know the recipient's reservation information, or you can call Celebrity's Store Customer Support team to place an order.

Note that gift cards cannot be used to pay shipboard charges, including gift shop purchases, casino debts, shore excursions or gratuities.

You can also give specialty dining certificates for $45 each. If the amount charged is less than that, the remaining sum will be applied to the passenger's onboard account.

A wide range of suites are also available. The Prima class of ships feature the largest suites, some of which have private whirlpools on the balcony and as many as three bedrooms.

Main U.S. routes: NCL has plenty of North America sailings from U.S. ports to Alaska, Bermuda, Canada and New England. There are also sailings to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico and the Panama Canal, among others.

You'll find lots of good deals on Norwegian, but cruise fares will fluctuate based on the destination, time of year and other variables. You’ll want to keep these factors in mind when booking a cruise, as they'll affect the price of the trip:

You can find cruise bargains for as low as $350 on four-night cruises, but if you want to splurge and do a longer cruise, expect to pay as much as $4,600 or more (especially if you book a suite or a Haven category room).

Of course, the fare will always vary depending on which cabin type you book.

When it comes to which NCL ship is best, that depends on what you're looking for in a cruise. If you're traveling with a family, for example, water slides, amusement park-style games and multi-bedroom suites may be important. This means you may prefer one of the line’s newest Prima Class ships: Norwegian Prima or Norwegian Viva.

If you're looking for a romantic vacation, perhaps you'll want a smaller ship or a cabin in The Haven, which is a hotel-within-a-hotel concept with more personalized service. The Haven is only available on select Norwegian ships, including Encore, Viva and Prima.

What is the newest NCL ship?

Norwegian Viva launched in the summer of 2023, making it the newest ship for NCL. It has special features like a three-tier race track, the fastest slides at sea, a food hall with 11 complimentary eateries and a sustainable cocktail bar.

Latitude Rewards awards members with points based on each night they sail, and they can earn bonus nights when booking certain categories of suites.

Occasional promotions also offer double-night credit. You will only earn cruise points on eligible sailings where you are paying a traditional fare; promotional sailings with a heavy discount might not be eligible, although you would still receive the benefits at your tier. Also, sailings on sister lines do not qualify for Latitude Rewards cruise points.

As you accrue nights, you earn elite status that delivers onboard benefits that grow with each status tier.

Latitude Rewards levels

The loyalty program has seven levels, from Bronze to Ambassador. The full roster of onboard amenities can be found on the Norwegian Cruise Line website . There are some extra perks that come with certain tiers.

How to earn Latitudes Rewards points

Earn one point for every night you spend on a sailing and double points in suites or The Haven category accommodations.

How to redeem points

This program does not offer any points to redeem. Instead, you would earn benefits on future cruises related to your particular elite tier. Ambassador members (700+ points) earn a free 7-night cruise.

Spending on the Norwegian Cruise Line® World Mastercard® won’t earn you Latitude Rewards points (the only way to do that is by sailing with NCL), but it will earn you WorldPoints. This currency can be redeemed for onboard credits on future sailings, Norwegian Cruise Line shore excursions and other travel experiences. The card has no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees, making it ideal for world travelers.

With the Norwegian Cruise Line® World Mastercard, you earn WorldPoints as follows:

3x points on NCL sailings.

2x points on eligible airfare and hotel purchases.

1x point on everything else.

Earn 20,000 WorldPoints, which is good for a $200 onboard credit or discount toward a future cruise, if you spend $1,000 or more in the first 90 days the account is open.

How to redeem WorldPoints

Each WorldPoints point is equivalent to one cent, which you can then redeem for things such as:

There are several drink package options on NCL sailings:

Non-alcoholic

The Unlimited Soda package includes all fountain soda drinks for $9.95 per person per day.

The Unlimited Starbucks package includes all Starbucks drinks for $12.95 per person per day.

An adult over the age of 21 could opt for a non-alcoholic drink package, but that means everyone else on their reservation must also get non-alcoholic drink packages.

Premium offers most drinks that cost $15 and under. You can pay the difference if you choose a more expensive drink. This unlimited package costs $109 per person per day.

Premium Plus offers even more drink options, mostly premium and top-shelf category labels, bottled water, Starbucks drinks and energy drinks for a flat price of $138 per person per day.

Keep in mind that alcoholic drink packages must be purchased for all people above the age of 21 in the same reservation, and those under 21 must pay for the soda package. The policy is intended to prevent people over the age of 21 from getting alcoholic drinks for other members of their party that did not pay for the alcoholic drink package.

Norwegian Cruise Line offers sailings at different price points to a global range of destinations. It is also known for its beautiful hull art, pioneering Freestyle Dining and adding buzzworthy amenities like ice bars and race tracks to its ships. NCL cruises are fun for all types of travelers, and its loyalty program can provide added perks along the way.

Starbucks gift cards/app on Norwegian Cruise line

By bareade1 , May 18, 2023 in Norwegian Cruise Line

Cool Cruiser

Has anyone been on a Norwegian cruise recently and know if you can use the Starbucks App or gift card?  I'm getting very conflicting information.  Any information would be great! We leave in a couple of weeks on the Getaway so just wondering.  Thank you!

I was able to use a Starbucks gift card on the Getaway in February.  Tied it to my Starbucks account number and earned points on every drink.

Awesome! Good to know! Thanks for the information!

To piggyback off this question, has anybody with either the unlimited Starbucks or the premium plus beverage package able to earn stars on their included Starbucks beverages? I am 90% sure that wouldn't be allowed (especially since you're not really paying directly for the drink and can really be abused), but I thought it would be worth asking/finding out.

I don't think you would because you need to use the app/giftcard to obtain stars and with the package they swipe your cruise card,

I have used my Starbucks app on multiple NCL ships, including the Getaway. You don't need wi-fi to use the app but your balance won't update until you do get wi-fi or data. You can ask the barista for a receipt which will show your current balance after purchase (but I don't bother).

I know that in land locations you can scan your starbucks card barcode to just earn stars  but then pay another way, so that is where I was thinking this could be done, but I assume it probably would be really complicated on a ship. I may ask onboard if it's doable just out of curiosity, but again, I highly doubt it would be allowed even if the system on land allows earning stars without paying with a starbucks gift card.

cruisinmeme

I used it many times recently on Breakaway. I put my gift card I had on my app.  I always keep a good balance with gift cards. My balance didn’t update until I got off the ship. I didn’t have Wi-Fi . I am sure if I had run out of available credit it would of declined. It I knew I had loaded plenty of $$ .

j&bcruzing

We were on the Jewel and they would not let us use our Starbucks gift card or app. I am assuming this is a ship by ship case.

Let’s see… how many stars for a drink with a cost of $0 with the package?

1. DEFINITIONS

This document constitutes the agreement ("Agreement") outlining the terms and conditions under which a Gift Voucher ("Card") has been issued to you. The Gift Voucher is a prepaid Card issued by MetaBankTM ("Bank"). By accepting and using this Card or authorising any person to use the Card, you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions contained in this Agreement. The Card will remain the property of Bank and must be surrendered upon demand. The Card is nontransferable and it may be cancelled, repossessed, or revoked at any time without prior notice subject to applicable law. Please read this Agreement carefully and keep it for future reference. These terms and conditions apply to both the purchaser and/or any other user of the Card. It is the purchaser’s obligation to provide these terms and conditions to any user; however, new terms and conditions may be provided, or any other questions or concerns answered, by visiting www.norwegiangiftcard.com or by calling 1.888.976.6904.

In this Agreement "You" and "your" mean the person or persons who have received the Card and are authorised to use the Card as provided for in this Agreement. "We", "us", "our", and "Bank" mean MetaBank, our successors, affiliates or assignees. The Card is NOT a credit card. The Card is not connected in any way to any other account. The Card is not a checking account or connected in any way to any account other than a stored value account where your funds are held.

Fees Associated with your Gift Voucher

Subject to applicable law, beginning the 13th consecutive month after there has been no activity on your Card, a fee of $3.00 per month will be assessed to your Card. This fee will be assessed to your Card as long as there are funds remaining on your Card and no further activity has occurred. If further activity occurs, we will wait until the 13th consecutive month of no activity to assess the fee. You may avoid this fee by making regular purchases with your Card.

Lost/Stolen Card Replacement Fee

If your Card is lost or stolen, there will be a fee of $6.95 to replace it. We will not charge you a fee if you request a Replacement Card due to your Card expiring, since the funds on your Card do not expire.

3. USING YOUR CARD

The Card is a prepaid card loaded with a specific amount of funds, redeemable to buy goods and services accepted only at Norwegian Cruise Line participating locations. The Card cannot be used to obtain cash. You are not allowed to make foreign currency transactions with your Card. Your Card can only be used in the United States. For security reasons, we may limit the amount or number of transactions you can make on your Card.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO BE AWARE OF THE AMOUNT OF FUNDS AVAILABLE ON YOUR CARD. Each time you use your Card, you authorise us to deduct the amount of the transaction from the balance of the funds associated with the Card. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO EXCEED THE BALANCE OF THE FUNDS AVAILABLE ON YOUR CARD. If you attempt to use the Card when there are insufficient funds associated with it, the transaction will generally be declined. Nevertheless, if a transaction that exceeds the balance of the funds available on your Card occurs due to a systems malfunction or otherwise, you shall remain fully liable to us for the amount of the transaction.

If you wish to use your Card for a purchase which is greater than the balance of the funds available on your Card, you must tell the merchant to charge only the exact amount of funds available on the Card to the Card and then you must arrange to pay the difference using another payment method. The merchant may require payment for the difference in cash rather than accepting another card, such as a credit or debit card. Some merchants may not accept these "split transactions." If you fail to inform the merchant prior to completing the transaction, your Card is likely to be declined. You may check your balance by visiting www.norwegiangiftcard.com or by calling 1.888.976.6904.

If you commence a purchase and then change your mind and fail to make the purchase, after the merchant has already obtained an "authorisation" for the transaction, the "authorisation" may result in a temporary hold for that amount of funds for up to ten (10) days. Car and hotel authorizations may result in a temporary hold on funds up to thirty (30) days.

Because this is a gift Card, you may present the Card to another person for use, or you may keep it for your own personal use. You, as the user, are fully liable for all transactions you make with the Card or Card number, and are responsible for all fees and transactions incurred.

5. Returns and Refunds

If you are entitled to a refund for any reason for goods or services obtained with your Card, you agree to accept credits to your Card for such refunds. It may take up to 7 days for the amount of the refund to be credited to your Card.

6. RECEIPTS

You should get a receipt at the time you make a transaction using your Card. You agree to retain your receipt to verify your transactions.

7. REPLACEMENT CARD

The funds on your card do not expire. An expiration date is provided for fraud prevention purposes. If your Card still has unused funds on it after your Card expires, you may order a new Card by visiting www.norwegiangiftcard.com or by calling 1.888.976.6904. Report any lost/stolen Cards immediately by visiting www.norwegiangiftcard.com or by calling 1.888.976.6904. Your funds will be temporarily unavailable until you contact customer service for a replacement card.

8. OUR LIABILITY FOR FAILURE TO COMPLETE TRANSACTIONS

We will not be liable:

  • If, through no fault of ours, you do not have enough funds available on your Card to complete the transaction;
  • If a merchant refuses to accept your Card;
  • If an electronic terminal where you are making a transaction does not operate properly, and you knew about the problem when you initiated the transaction;
  • If access to your Card has been blocked after you reported your Card lost or stolen;
  • If we have reason to believe the transaction is unauthorised;
  • If circumstances beyond our control (such as fire, flood or computer or communication failure) prevent the completion of the transaction, despite reasonable precautions that we have taken;
  • Any other exception stated in our Agreement with you.

9. No Warranty Regarding Goods and Services or Uninterrupted Use

We are not responsible for the quality, safety, legality, or any other aspect of any goods or services you purchase with your Card. From time to time the Card service may be inoperative, and when this happens, you may be unable to use your Card or obtain information about your balance. Please notify us if you have any problems using your Card. You agree that we are not responsible for any interruption of service. In the event a Card is non-functional, your sole remedy may be replacement of a Card.

10. TRANSACTION HISTORY

You may obtain information about the amount of money you have remaining in your Card account by calling 1.888.976.6904. This information, along with a 60-day history of account transactions, is also available online at www.norwegiangiftcard.com .

11. Your Liability for Unauthorised Transactions

You agree to safeguard the Card and treat it like cash. The Card can be replaced if it is lost or stolen or if you believe that an electronic fund transfer has been made without your permission, with certain restrictions. Tell us, AT ONCE, if you believe your Card has been lost or stolen or of any unauthorised transactions. You should call 1.888.976.6904 immediately to report a lost or stolen Card. We reserve the right to investigate any claim you may make with respect to a lost or stolen Card, and you agree to cooperate with such investigation. We may ask you for a written statement, affidavit or other information in support of the claim. You acknowledge that purchases made with prepaid Cards, such as the gift Card, are similar to those made with cash. You cannot "stop payment" or lodge a "billing dispute" on such transactions. Any problems or disputes you may have regarding a purchase should be addressed directly with the merchant.

12. INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR RIGHT TO DISPUTE ERRORS

You are responsible for resolving disputes arising out of the Card transactions, including disputes related to the quality, safety or legality of merchandise or services. In case of errors or questions about Card transactions, call 1.888.976.6904 if you think your receipt is wrong or if you need more information about a transaction on the receipt.

13. UNCLAIMED PROPERTY

Your Card is subject to unclaimed property laws where your Card has been registered, or the laws of the state where we are located/ incorporated if the Card is not registered. Should your Card have a remaining balance after a certain period of time, we may be required to remit remaining funds to the appropriate state agency.

14. OTHER TERMS

Your Card and your obligations under this Agreement may not be assigned. We may transfer our rights under this Agreement. Use of your Card is subject to all applicable rules and customs of any clearinghouse or other association involved in transactions. We do not waive our rights by delaying or failing to exercise them at anytime. If any provision of this Agreement shall be determined to be invalid or unenforceable under any rule, law, or regulation of any governmental agency, local, state, or federal, the validity or enforceability of any other provision of this Agreement shall not be affected. This Agreement will be governed by the law of the State of South Dakota except to the extent governed by federal law.

15. AMENDMENT AND CANCELLATION

We may amend or change the terms of this Agreement at any time, subject to applicable law. We will never change types or amounts of fees charged or the frequency or condition in which they are charged, expiration dates, the website and toll free number that you can call for questions about your Card, and your available funds will never expire on this Card due to the passage of time. You will be notified of any change in the manner provided by applicable law prior to the effective date of the change. However, if the change is made for security purposes, we can implement such change without prior notice.

We may cancel or suspend your Card or this Agreement at any time. You may cancel this Agreement by returning the Card to us. Your termination of this Agreement will not affect any of our rights or your obligations arising under this Agreement prior to termination.

16. PRIVACY, CONFIDENTIALITY AND DATA PROTECTION

(i) Information We Collect ("Cardholder Information"):

(a) Information about purchases made with the Card, such as date of purchase, amount and place of purchase.

(b) Information you provide to us when you apply for a Card, or for replacement Cards or when you contact us with customer service issues, such as name, address, phone number.

(ii) Information Security: Only those persons who need it to perform their job responsibilities are authorised to have access to Cardholder Information. In addition, we maintain physical, electronic and procedural security measures that comply with federal regulations to safeguard Cardholder Information.

(iii) Disclosure: We may use Cardholder Information to provide customer services, to process claims for lost or stolen Cards, to help protect against fraud and to conduct research and analysis. In addition, it is often necessary for us to disclose Cardholder Information for the same purposes to companies that work with us. For example, we may provide certain Cardholder Information to companies that perform business operations or services on our behalf. We may also provide certain Cardholder Information to others as permitted by law, such as government entities or other third parties in response to subpoenas, where necessary to complete transactions, or if you give us your written permission.

We may also disclose information to third parties about your Card account or the transactions you make:

(1) Where it is necessary for completing transactions;

(2) In order to verify the existence and condition of your Card account for a third party, such as merchant;

(3) In order to comply with government agency or court orders, or other legal reporting requirements;

(4) If you give us your written permission; or

(5) To our employees, auditors, affiliates, service providers, or lawyers as needed.

(iv) Affiliates. Affiliates are companies related by common ownership or control. They can be financial and nonfinancial companies. MetaBank has no affiliates with which it shares your personal information. Nonaffiliates are Companies not related to us by common ownership or control. They can be financial and nonfinancial companies. MetaBank does not share your personal information with nonaffiliates so they can market to you.

We may partner with nonaffiliated financial companies to jointly market financial products or services to you.

(v) State Privacy Laws. If you are a resident of California or Vermont, we will not share with nonaffiliates except for our own marketing purposes, our everyday business purposes, or with your consent. Nevada residents: We are providing this notice pursuant to Nevada law.

(vi) Questions. If you have questions about your privacy, call 1.888.976.6904 or go to www.norwegiangiftcard.com .

17. ARBITRATION DISCLOSURE

(a) Purpose: This Arbitration Provision sets forth the circumstances and procedures under which claims (as defined below) may be arbitrated instead of litigated in court.

(b) Definitions: As used in this Arbitration Provision, the term "Claim" means any claim, dispute or controversy between you and us arising from or relating to the Card or this Agreement including the validity, enforceability or scope of this Arbitration Provision or the Agreement. "Claim" includes claims of every kind and nature, including but not limited to initial claims, counterclaims, cross-claims and third-party claims. The term "Claim" is to be given the broadest possible meaning that will be enforced and includes, without limitation, any claim, dispute or controversy that arises from or relates to (i) your Card; (ii) the amount of Available Funds on the Cards; (iii) advertisements, or oral or written statements related to the Card, goods or services purchased with the Cards; (iv) the services related to the Cards; and (v) your purchase, activation, use or upgrade for any Card. We shall not elect to use arbitration under the Arbitration Provision for any Claim that you properly file and pursue in a small claims court of your state or municipality so long as the Claim is individual and pending only in that court.

As used in the Arbitration Provision, the terms "we" and "us" shall mean the Bank, subsidiaries, affiliates, licensees, predecessors, successors, and assigns; and all of their agents, employees, directors and representatives. In addition, "we" or "us" shall include any third party using or providing any product, service or benefit in connection with any Cards (including, but not limited to merchants who accept the Card, third parties who market or provide services), if, and only if, such third party is named as a co-party with us (or files a Claim with or against us) in connection with a Claim asserted by you.

(c) Initiation of Arbitration Proceeding/Selection of Administrator: Any Claim shall be resolved, upon the election by you or us, by arbitration pursuant to this Arbitration Provision and the procedures of the national arbitration organisation to which the Claim is referred. Claims shall be referred to either the Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services ("JAMS"), or the American Arbitration Association ("AAA"), as selected by the party electing to use arbitration. If a selection by us of one of these organisations is unacceptable to you, you shall have the right within 30 days after you receive notice of our election to select either of the other organisations listed to serve as arbitrator administrator. You may contact us for instructions on how to obtain copies of any of these organisations' procedures.

(d) Significance of Arbitration: IF ARBITRATION IS CHOSEN BY ANY PARTY WITH RESPECT TO A CLAIM, NEITHER YOU NOR WE WILL HAVE THE RIGHT TO LITIGATE THAT CLAIM IN COURT OR HAVE A JURY TRIAL ON THAT CLAIM, OR TO ENGAGE IN DISCOVERY EXCEPT AS PROVIDED FOR IN THE PROCEDURES OF THE JAMS, OR AAA, AS APPLICABLE (THE "PROCEDURES"). FURTHER, YOU WILL NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A REPRESENTATIVE CAPACITY OR AS A MEMBER OF ANY CLASS OF CLAIMANTS PERTAINING TO ANY CLAIM SUBJECT TO ARBITRATION. EXCEPT AS SET FORTH BELOW, THE ARBITRATOR'S DECISION WILL BE FINAL AND BINDING. NOTE THAT OTHER RIGHTS THAT YOU WOULD HAVE IF YOU WENT TO COURT ALSO MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE IN ARBITRATION.

(e) Restrictions on Arbitration: If either party elects to resolve a Claim by arbitration, that Claim shall be arbitrated on an individual basis. The arbitrator's authority to resolve Claims is limited to Claims between you and us alone, and the arbitrator's authority to make awards is limited to you and us alone. Furthermore, Claims brought by you against us or by us against you may not be joined or consolidated in arbitration with Claims brought by or against someone other than you, unless otherwise agreed to in writing by all parties.

(f) Location of Arbitration/Payment of Fees: Any arbitration hearing that you attend shall take place in the federal judicial district of your residence. At your written request, we will consider in good faith making a temporary advance of all or part of the filing administrative and/or hearing fees ("fees") for any Claim you initiate as to which you or we seek arbitration. At the conclusion of the arbitration (or any appeal thereof), the arbitrator (or panel) will decide who will ultimately be responsible for paying the fees in connection with the arbitration (or appeal).

(g) Arbitration Procedures: This Arbitration Provision is made pursuant to a transaction involving interstate commerce, and shall be governed by the Federal Arbitration Act, 9 U.S.C. Sections 1-16, as it may be amended (the "FAA"). The arbitration shall be governed by the applicable Procedure, except that (to the extent enforceable under the FAA) this arbitration Provision shall control if it is inconsistent with the applicable Procedure. The arbitrator shall apply applicable substantive law consistent with the FAA and applicable statutes of limitations and shall honour claims of privilege recognised at law and, at the timely request of either party, shall provide a brief written explanation of the basis for the decision. The arbitrator shall take reasonable steps to preserve the privacy of individuals, and of business matters. Judgment upon the award rendered by the arbitrator may be entered in any court having jurisdiction. The arbitrator's decision will be final and binding, except for any right of appeal provided by the FAA. However, any party can appeal that award to a three-arbitrator panel administered by the same arbitration organisation, which shall consider anew any aspect of the initial award objected to by the appealing party. The appealing party shall have thirty (30) days from the date of entry of the written arbitration award to notify the arbitration organisation that it is exercising the right of appeal. The appeal shall be filed with the arbitration organisation in the form of a dated writing. The arbitration organisation will then notify the other party that the award has been appealed. The arbitration organisation will appoint a three-arbitrator panel which will conduct an arbitration pursuant to its Procedure and issue its decision within one hundred twenty (120) days of the date of the appellant's written notice. The decision of the panel shall be by majority vote and shall be final and binding.

(h) Continuation: This Arbitration Provision shall survive termination of your Card. If any portion of this Arbitration Provision is deemed invalid or unenforceable, it shall not invalidate the remaining portions of this Arbitration Provision or the Agreement, both of which shall be enforceable regardless of such invalidity.

NCL gift cards don't work

Cool Cruiser

We had booked another NCL Cruise which unfortunately happened during COVID so it was canceled and rebooked for the past 2 weeks.  Our daughter had sent us a gift card she purchased directly from NCL for us to use on board, and as it was attempted to be used today on the getaway staff indicated it could not be honored.  One possibility is NCL never activated it when it was purchased and the other is that a dishonest employee stole the numbers and used it sometime in the past couple years.

Be vigilant if you purchase or have someone purchase for you and NCL gift cards for use a board.

The best part of the NCL gift card program is it was discontinued on 12/31/21. Have never had an experience like I had on the Dawn trying to use a gift card. The folks at customer service were completely clueless as to how to process the card. It took three days of back and forth with Miami before they finally decided the card was legit and credited my account. All for $50.00!.

As stated above , after a year they deduct $3.00 a month in dormancy fees. So, if you had received one issued in December of 2021 for , let's say, $50.00, you've now lost $30.00 to fees , and your card is now worth $20.00.

If a card was purchased in December 2019 prior to the pandemic, started incurring charges in December 2020, 34 months of dormancy = $102 penalty, the cards are probably emptied due to non-use.

Math checks out, but I assume it was purchased long before Dec. 2021 based on the OP.

Thanks to all who replied to my post. I am sure this is probably what has happened, I wish the folks at the cruise desk could have explained it.

Actually, it was!!*  I missed the "after a year fine print."  Apparently, so did the other poster.  🤣

IOW: the Chief screwed up!!  It's okay.  I'll have another Scotch and it will just fade into a lifetime of screwups.  That said, I'm still alive and kicking!!  People who screw up and can laugh it off are generally happier than the "others".  😎

*Do I need to integrate x squared or something trivial like that to prove it?

Do gift cards from other places have a monthly dormancy fee?  I have never run into anything like that.

If cruises were canceled because of the pandemic, leaving passengers unable to use the gift card onboard, the monthly dormancy fee is an unfair money grab.

Dormancy fees are very common with gift cards.  A card can be considered dormant after one year of non-use.  A gift card sits on a company’s balance sheet as a revenue liability until it is redeemed. Each state as different laws for dormant cards, with many treating them as unclaimed property, which the value ultimately reverts to the state. By clawing back fees each month, the company is reducing their liability and keeping it from going to the state.  I have seen companies re-issue cards that have gone dormant down to zero value, but obviously that is up to the company.

I know that some restaurants do.  Back at Megacorp, some genius in HR decided that handing out gift cards from time to time would improve moral.  Each Director's secretary got a stack at the beginning of the year.  Communication happened like it always did.  They sat around forever because the bosses were too busy keeping the ship afloat to mess with requesting gift cards (they/we had to write something up saying "the Chief saved the company last month, give him a free dinner at Olive Garden.")  So, I did take the family to Olive Garden shortly after receiving the card and was informed that my $50 card was worth about a buck ninety-five.  Improved moral indeed!!  💩

Or it could be the card expitrsed or it could be any number of other things.  NCL does not issue those cards.  They are from Discover and they have not been sold for a number of years now.  They had/have a monthly dormancy fee applied and it is quite possibel it had zero value when you finally tried to use it.

I just found a $500 NCL Gift Card I forgot I had.  I have already lost $45.00 in dormancy fees making the card worth $455 as of today and likely $452 next week.  I called the 800 number that came with the documentation to enquire what I would need to do to transfer the card to another person.  On the recording on the web site, it says I can use the card at any location that accepts Visa cards, but the documentation that came with the card it says I can only use it at NCL.

I plan to either apply it to my next cruise if it can be accepted by my TA for a Princess cruise or if not, I'll see if I can apply it to my upcoming Oceania cruise as "O" is owned by NCL Holdings.  Barring that, I may try to sell it on eBay.

Has anybody else dealt with this issue?  As of now, I don't see any NCL sailings in my future.

Swells1

I bought one for a friend way back in 2016. She wasn't able to use it because it didn't have her name attached to it. I never tried again.

  10. Do Discounted NCL Gift Cards Exist As AARP Does With Other Cruise Lines

NCL stopped selling gift cards all together unfortunately. I used to get them on Ebay or Gift Card Granny at a discount, but the value would go down if you didn't use them quickly. Lots of complaints about that, so maybe this factored into the decision to stop selling them.

Based on my research, Carnival offers the best discount gift cards (10%) with the least restrictions. as they can be used for booking, obc, all pre-cruise purchases, they can even be used on the ship. 16. Visa Gift Cards

I use about 55-60 of the Visa gift cards a year to pay on my cruise. The only catch usually is, that I must call NCL directly for them to be processed correctly. One thing to remember, if you use a gift card to make your final payment, and you end up changing rooms, NCL credits the last card [cards] used.
