The run of 23 dates kicks off June 28 at FLA Live Arena in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and make stops in cities including Atlanta, Boston, New Orleans, Salt Lake City and Seattle before closing Aug. 2 at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif. Alicia Keys raises a banner for unity and love with epic Keys to the Summer tour in Austin

alicia keys tour texas

Alicia Keys is a national treasure. The 42-year-old R&B/pop sensation brought her Keys to the Summer tour to Austin’s Moody Center on Monday and she came to slay. With two pianos, two high couture looks and a sprawling setlist over 30 songs deep, she crafted an unforgettable experience for the diverse crowd that packed Austin’s premiere concert arena.

“Anything that's on our shoulders, we’re going to let it go tonight,” she promised near the top of the set. Then she launched a musical odyssey marked by jaw-dropping technical prowess, exultant sing-alongs and a joyous celebration of love in all its many forms.

Alicia Keys is one of the defining musical talents of her generation

An ecstatic cheer ripped through the crowd as the lights went dark at the top of the show. With the upper balconies blocked off and chairs on the floor, the arena — set in the round — felt almost intimate. Keys’ voice cut through the darkness as she explored the smoldering opening bars to 2001 Grammy-winner,“Fallin’.” When the lights came up, she was seated at a slow-spinning grand piano with a glitter finish. With lights glinting off the regal gold braid down her back, her fingers effortlessly wove melody, countermelody and rhythm as her voice rattled the rafters. The arena exploded.

Moments later, she marched around the stage greeting the crowd to the military snare hits of “New Day,” before settling back at the piano to drive the melodies. The piano was set center stage and she returned to it again and again throughout the show, dropping majestic chords and arpeggiated patterns with casual flourishes. She used color from the ivories to boost bombastic numbers like “Love Looks Better” and to frame quiet confessionals like “Diary.”

The fact that we barely missed Usher on “My Boo” (performed as a duet with a warm and wonderful male dancer) or Jay-Z on “Empire” speaks volumes.

More: We heard a new Lil Yachty at 'Austin City Limits' taping. More rock, less rap.

Keys' music evolves the rich traditions of Black American sounds

As the show neared the halfway mark, she built “City of Gods II” from a lonely woman’s lament into a truly epic cacophony, a soulful screamer that broke into a ten minute instrumental funk jam.

Keys disappeared and then reemerged on a side stage platform with a small upright piano. With points of light dancing in the air around her, she channeled the energy of bygone blues artists whose spirits haunt the Central Texas ether for a soul-shaking version of Prince’s “How Come You Don’t Call Me.”

Keys is part of a rich lineage of Black musicians whose work is foundational to all American popular music. You can draw a direct line from juke joint performances in Post-War East Austin, to Keys' performance at the largest concert hall in the city.

While her career spans the autotune era of R&B and the spacious groove era of trap, she has consistently turned out hit after hit built around organic soul and robust live instrumentation. She keeps the vintage hip-hop spirit of New Jack Swing alive in post-millennial pop.

Alicia Keys leads with her heart and the love shines through

The best soul singers know how to bypass your brain and transmit understanding directly from heart to heart. Alicia Keys performs with pure emotion that hits the listener directly in the chest.

“I wrote this song when I was not feeling like I had my cape on,” she said as an intro to “Superwoman.” With a montage of images of ordinary woman on the big screen, she sang the female empowerment ode as if she was willing her voice to lift every woman in the building, coaxing every soul to take flight.

She was the picture of unrequited love on “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart” and a champion for all lovers on "You Don't Know My Name" which was accompanied by images of a pair of gender non-conforming people skipping rope. On "Holy War," as she imagined an alternate reality with no artificial walls, a world where we revel in our shared humanity, she was moved to tears.

The show reached its final climax with a pair of jubilant singalongs. Thousands of voices joined in unison for an extended version of “No One” so magical I simply wrote “religious experience” in my notes. And Keys let the audience take the lead on the encore, “If I Ain’t Got You.” For a few moments, we lived, breathed, dreamed and sang as one. And in our fragmented world, that's a magnificent gift.

The Keys to the Summer tour marks the singer’s return to North America just under a year after she wrapped the second leg of the Alicia + Keys world tour in support of her seventh and eighth studio albums Alicia and Keys , released in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Before then, she hadn’t been on an official tour since 2013’s Set the World on Fire tour. Now, it seems, Keys is making up for lost time.

Alicia keys is soulful and sensational, she can get the crowd on their feet and she can also get them sat down listening as she hits every note perfectly as she hammers out her beautiful ballads. You may think you don't know many of her songs but tune after tune you scream " I know this song". As much as she is a soulful singer she can also play the piano thrashing them keys to make the songs come alive and wow does she make a party swing. We all have our favourite songs but mine has got to be "one" although not accompanied by U2 it still sounds awesome with her backing singers. Her dancers are hot and sassy and that is just the men but she has fun with her dancers and although not one to chat for ever during her set she does interact with the crowd.

Towards the end of her set when she sang Empire State of mind / New York the roof lifted ... So tickets were reasonable priced, the set was long and the quality of the artist was spot on.... Don't miss out next time Alicia tours - you won't be disappointed.

The show was amazing there are no words that can describe how incredible she is as an artist and a human being. She puts her heart and soul in every note she plays and sings. Truly humble and inspiring. Love her!

Usher Announces Past Present Future Tour 2024: Upcoming Dates And How To Buy Tickets

E ight-time Grammy Award Winner Usher has just announced his Past Present Future Tour, slated to cover arenas and amphitheaters across the country. Usher just had one of the most exciting half-time performances of any Super Bowl and fans can’t wait to see what his tour has in store.

He’s also coming off the back of an incredibly successful Las Vegas residency where he sold out over 100 shows. For this tour, Usher will be starting his latest run of shows in Washington, D.C. at the Capital One Arena in August before wrapping up at the Toyota Center in Houston in November.

If you want to see Usher live on his latest tour, tickets are available now through StubHub where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program. StubHub is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

Usher has also just released a brand new album, his first in over 8 years, and we can hope to hear some of the new tracks at his concerts. Fans can also look forward to hearing some of the most classic tracks of the early 2000s, including “Yeah”, “OMG”, and more.

While he hasn’t announced who he’ll have open for him for his Past Present Future tour, Usher is known to bring quality acts with him wherever he performs. His previous tours have included talents like DJ Cassidy while his latest Super Bowl performance saw the artist bring out Alicia Keys, Lil Jon, Ludacris, and more.

If you want to see one of the smoothest singers of our time, we suggest buying your tickets soon. Usher just sold out over 100 shows during his Las Vegas residency and his Past Present Future Tour is set to do the same. Buy official tickets directly through StubHub or by clicking here .
