SPECIAL CREW

Some crew you just can’t get in the time portal, from beholds, or even event packs. The following characters are available only by voyage rewards, gauntlet rewards or by fusing multiple others. Fierce Guinan is now available as an achievement award and Colonel Worf reportedly shows up in time portal packs now and then.

I moved the Captain Avatars to their own page here .

I added Commanding Officer Sisko to this page October 2023, though he has been around since September 2018.  Stargazer Picard and Emergency Medical Holoprogram Mk.1 have also been added to the Honor Hall section below. These three were the suggestion of Captain Kumar (thanks!).

So how to you max out The Duras Sisters? Just do what you did above three more times. Fuse all your 1/4* The Duras Sisters together for a Super Rare 4/4* THE DURAS SISTERS! Or you can get The Duras Sisters if you are super lucky at the Dabo Wheel.

So how to you max out Tuvix? You are going to need three more pairs of Ambassador Neelix + Security Chief Tuvok to make three more 1/4* Tuvix. You don’t have to level up Neelix or Tuvok at all, but one of them has to be 3/3* and the other 1/3* in order to fuse them. Fuse all your 1/4* Tuvix together for a Super Rare 4/4* TUVIX!

star trek timelines how to fuse crew

POWER RANSOM : Strong in Command/Science / 8 traits.

star trek timelines how to fuse crew

Omet’iklan : Strong in Security/Engineering / 10 traits. This is the first new Gauntlet Crew since July 2023, which I think is more reasonable. Mirror Mariner and Power Ransom were 3 months apart, and Mirror Mariner and First Flight Archer were only 2 months apart. That being said, it took me a year to get First Flight Archer and I have not seen Mirror Mariner or Power Ransom yet. I play every day as a considerably strong Captain, so what’s up with that. I guess we’ll see if I magically get Mirror Mariner in March of 2024.

I am not entirely sure if you can acquire these crew anywhere else, but I’ll tell you this: I have multiples of each, all from The Gauntlet… EXCEPT… I have no Locutus of Borg and he was discontinued from The Gauntlet before I started playing, so… *April 8, 2020 : I got an email from a Captain named James. He says that he has pulled a Locutus of Borg as a Gauntlet Reward, so there’s hope!

* * April 24, 2020 : GhuruDude  sent me an email that Locutus is the reward for completing 20K Gauntlet rounds. I have done the Gauntlet pretty much every day for over 2 1/2 years at this point, and I am no where near 20K. That might because I personally find the Gauntlet almost as annoying as the Arena, but at least it’s not required to complete your daily tasks.

***December 20, 2021 : it took over 4 years, but I finally got a Locutus in the Gauntlet – which is awesome, because it would take me like 7 years to get 20,000 rounds.

***December 13, 2023 : I am currently at 19,600. It will indeed take almost 7 years to get there.

Once upon a time, you could purchase Captain Beverly Picard in the Honor Hall, much like Kahless the Unforgettable – but not for long. She is absolutely the most powerful in the combined Command/Medical skill for The Gauntlet. I don’t know if you can still acquire her at all, but I haven’t seen her since. She is available for 100,000 honor.

*Jan 10, 2020 – I got an email from a Captain named Mike and he says that Captain Beverly is still in his Honor Hall. I hope that’s true for everyone that doesn’t have her yet. – ek

*Feb 20, 2020 – an email from Captain James confirms that Captain Beverly is still in the Honor Hall. Why DB removed her once I bought her (and not Kahless), I have no idea.

Your Crew is a collection of characters that can be assigned to various roles in-game. You are limited to a maximum of 25 crew and, at this limit, one or more crew members must be dismissed on order to gain any further crew. Duplicates of crew members count against your crew limit.

Obtaining Crew

CrewShop

Crew are acquired through Time Portals , Daily Rewards , and the Dabo Wheel .

Expanding the Crew Roster

A locked Crew Member.

When a Captain has more crew than available slots, additional crew are locked and cannot be used, viewed, or equipped. A Captain has seven days to increase the available slots, fuse characters, or dismiss characters; otherwise the excess characters will be lost.

There are two ways to increase the available Crew Slots: with Credits or by increasing your VIP . The option to purchase additional Crew Slots with Credits only appears when the number of Crew equals or exceeds the available Slots.

Crew members are assigned a Rarity, reflecting the quality of that crew member and their general difficulty to obtain. Rarity is indicated by the number of stars and the colour of the frame around the character.

  • Common: lowest rarity, grey, 1 star.
  • Uncommon: low rarity, green, 2 stars.
  • Rare: moderate rarity, blue, 3 stars.
  • Legendary: high rarity, purple, 4 stars.
  • Epic: exceptional rarity, gold, 5 stars.

Multiple versions of crew can be obtained from various sources including Time Portals , Faction Missions , or Episodes . These variations represent characters at differing points in their timelines, and may have different Skills and rarity levels. Multiple variations of a character are treated as separate and unique, and can be utilised at the same time, e.g. on an Away Team .

Example: A player has both the Chief Engineer and Maquis Takeover variants of B'Elanna Torres . In order to level both characters, the player selects a Mission and assigns both Torres crew members to the Away Team. Both crew take up a slot and can be used individually on the mission stages.

FuseIdrin

All Crew begin with 1 star "filled". Crew with 2 or more maximum stars can be Fused together to create superior versions of themselves until all of their stars have been filled. With one notable exception , only identical Crew can be fused.

Example 1: Ensign Crusher is a 3-star Crew. Up to three copies can be fused together, bringing the Crew member to its maximum fusions, with all three stars filled. Example 2: Acting Ensign Crusher is a 2-star variant of Wesley Crusher . Although they are the same character as Ensign Crusher , they cannot be fused.

Caution should be exercised when fusing Crew, and it is recommended that the option to Fuse be selected from the "target" Crew member.

Example 3: Promoted Sisko is a 2-star Crew. The player has a level 30, and two level 1 copies of this Crew. Selecting a level 1 copy and tapping the Fuse button may bring up the pair of level 1 Crew, instead of the intended levelled-up copy.

Crew cannot be Fused if they are participating in a Faction Mission or assigned to a vessel's Battle Stations .

Crew gain experience (XP) by completing Missions (but not Faction Missions), or by using Crew Experience Training . Experience needed to level up is not cumulative, but excess carries over when a Crew increases in level.

DismissIcon

Due to reaching the maximum number of crew slots, or receiving a duplicate crew that is not useful to the player, a Captain may dismiss any crew in their service. This can be done by viewing a crew member and tapping the dismiss icon. A small number of Crew Experience Training items are obtained upon dismissal.

If the Dismiss icon becomes greyed out after tapping, check that the Crew member is not currently assigned to a Shuttle or a Battle Station .

Advancement

When a crew member is obtained, they are limited to a maximum level of 10. This can be increased, 10 levels at a time, by equipping the character. Items equipped to a crew member cannot be removed and given to another character, care should be exercised when equipping. When all four equipment slots are filled, the Advance button will become active, consuming the equipped items and increasing the crew member's maximum level.

Star Trek Timelines: 10 Tips and Tricks to Transition from Beginner to Pro

Posted by: BlueStacks Content Team

Editor’s Rating:

Sep 18, 2019

star trek timelines how to fuse crew

Star Trek Timelines is one of the most democratic strategy games currently on the Play Store. You can dump entire bags of cash into it and buy your way to the top ranks or you can play (at an actual competitive level) without spending a dime. We talked all about it in our guide to playing Star Trek Timelines for free .

Star Trek Timelines: 10 Tips and Tricks to Transition from Beginner to Pro

By following just a few tips , you can easily make a name for yourself as Captain even if you don’t want to invest any real currency. Once you leave the early game, however, new challenges will come your way and you will need to know how to tackle them like an expert. That’s what these tips and tricks are for.

#1 – Nothing Like Merits for a Starship Captain

As an F2P player, you have to be resourceful when it comes to obtaining top tier ships, crew members, and gear. Most of the time, you’ll find some fabulous deals in the Faction shops, but in order to buy their best merchandise, you’ll need Merits.

Star Trek Timelines: 10 Tips and Tricks to Transition from Beginner to Pro

This currency is something you can get entirely for free by completing Daily Missions and Tasks. As an active player, you can get a decent amount over the course of just one week.

#2 – You Don’t Always Have to Dismiss the Crew

Unfortunately, there is a cap to how many crew members you can keep at a time… and it’s not nearly high enough. As such, you’ll have to think carefully about the characters you keep unless you’re willing to spend Dilithium to get more slots.

Star Trek Timelines: 10 Tips and Tricks to Transition from Beginner to Pro

Before you throw someone precious down the bin, however, consider whether you can fully upgrade them in order to get them “immortalized”. If the answer is yes, then you’ll be able to “freeze” the immortalized crew member and summon them back later for a small price.

#3 – Cadet Challenges Are Your Best Friend

Probably the best way to obtain more resources and Chronitons is by completing Cadet Challenges. There are a total of 5 challenges, each with their own trait requirements, so it’s important to get the right combination of crew members in order to be successful.

However, the rewards are well worth the effort. If you’re wondering which crew members are best to obtain/keep for this purpose, we’ve tackled the subject in our guide to the best characters for F2P players .

#4 – Traits Are More Important than Skills

When you evaluate a crew member, there are a couple of things you should consider. Skills are usually expressed in numbers and can be useful during campaign missions, events, and more, but what you really want to pay attention to is the Traits tab.

Play Star Trek Timelines on BlueStacks!

Star Trek Timelines: 10 Tips and Tricks to Transition from Beginner to Pro

Each character has a unique combination of Traits. Our tier 2 Data, for example, has Android, Federation, Starfleet, Cyberneticist, and Musician. These are much more important to consider because without the right combinations, some characters are useless in terms of completing Cadet Challenges.

#5 – There Is a Right Time for Distress

Once you complete an episode on the Campaign map, you are likely to unlock a Distress Call, which is like a mini-episode of its own. Although they’re not particularly flashy, these should be completed before you attempt the next episode because they give significant boosts towards the latter.

Star Trek Timelines: 10 Tips and Tricks to Transition from Beginner to Pro

If you find yourself getting whooped in some chapters, make sure you didn’t forget to answer a previous Distress Call.

#6 – Battle Station Bonuses Don’t Stack

You should never leave battle stations unmanned during ship combat. However, you should also bear in mind that the buffs you get from the two heroes do not stack if they boost the same stat.

For example, if we want to use both Picard and Kor during a fight, we have to activate their buffs alternatively. Otherwise, it’s a waste.

#7 – Events and Featured Crew

Each week brings another event in the Star Trek Timelines universe. During these events, you have to send out mission shuttles for points and can usually collect a lot of goodies in the process.

Star Trek Timelines: 10 Tips and Tricks to Transition from Beginner to Pro

Naturally, the more missions you complete, the harder they become. There is, however, a little trick you can use to make things a bit easier. To get a significant boost in success rate, you should consider using those crew members that appear as “featured” for the week.

#8 – Don’t Stress about Ships

Star Trek Timelines features some really cool legendary ships , but their purpose is more roleplay oriented than you’d think. You can complete most missions with a tier 3 ship and you can even compete in the arena with one.

Of course, you’ll need a tier 5 vessel to climb to the top of the ranks, but, until that becomes a concern, you should always focus on crew, rather than obtaining new ships.

#9 – If You’re Going to Buy, Buy the Monthly Card

Dilithium is excruciatingly difficult to come by in this game, which is not too bad since you can obtain most things without it, but can be frustrating for some.

Star Trek Timelines: 10 Tips and Tricks to Transition from Beginner to Pro

You can buy Dilithium for real currency in several quantities, but our recommendation for those who are willing to pay is to purchase the Monthly Card. This is the single best deal you can get in the shop, although you do have to log in every day to make the most of it.

#10 – Starfleet Never Rests

The first shuttle missions you send out take just over a minute to complete, but the more reputation you earn with a faction, the longer the missions become. Eventually, some missions will take hours to complete, which can be extremely inconvenient since they will likely lock your best characters.

Star Trek Timelines: 10 Tips and Tricks to Transition from Beginner to Pro

To avoid this, you should only activate long-lasting missions during the night, right before you go to sleep. This is especially useful if you decide to use 2x or 3x reward boosts, which add even more time to completion.

Much can be said about further optimizing your gameplay and fleet of ships, but, for the time being, these tips and tricks outline those issues that should be your primary concerns as you leave the early game. By the time you get the hang of these, you’ll likely have enough experience with Star Trek Timelines to make your own way through the galaxy.

crew

A voyage starts after a selection of crew and a ship, resulting in a combined value for each skill and a starting amount of antimatter. As the voyage progresses, activities will occur. A player will see a quick (20s) countdown timer at the bottom of the voyage log per activity and a long (2h) timer at the top of the screen for Dilemmas. A player has no influence on which activities occur, and only with Dilemmas can the player influence the outcome or reward.

Every expiration of the "quick" timer results in a voyage activity of type normal , hazard , or dilemma . These activities can reduce or increase available antimatter and may add a reward which can be claimed when the voyage returns successfully. The voyage will progress through normal and hazard activities, but every two hours the dilemma will halt voyage progress until the player makes a choice. This means the voyage will progress at most 2 hours at a time without player interaction to continue the voyage.

As the voyage progresses, the antimatter will eventually reduce to zero, resulting in a failed voyage. Starting a Voyage

Voyages were moved from the bottom left corner of the Galaxy map to their own screen at the upper-left of the main screen. To start a voyage you have to select a starship and twelve crew members. During the Voyage, the crew can not be used in away missions , shuttle missions , and can't be dismissed or fused. However they can be used in the Gauntlet or for skirmish events .

Crew selection occurs by filling the 12 voyage slots, 2 for each skill, with a crew member that has the named skill. The end result is a sum for each skill composed from all selected crew. A slot may only be filled by a crew member that has the named skill, but any other skills the crew member has also contributes to the total for that skill value.

Command

Because crew with three skills generally have a higher amount when combining the averages of all three skills than crew with two skills or one skill, crew with fewer than three skills should be avoided when attempting to maximize skill totals, thus helping to maximizing voyage duration. Also, crew with three skills are more versatile since they can occupy one of six slots.

Featured skills

Each voyage has two featured skills: one primary marked with a gold star, and one secondary with a silver star. These skills are tested more often: the primary skill will be tested 35% of the time, the secondary skill 25%, and each of the other skills 10%. [2]

Science

It is important to prioritize the featured skills as they will, cumulatively, be tested around 60% of the time. Completely neglecting the other four, however, will cause your voyage to perform poorly, so some balance is required to maximize voyage duration from your active crew.

A voyage starts with a certain amount of Antimatter (AM), which is required to power the starship on the voyage, depending on the ship and crew selected.

Each ship carries a certain maximum amount of Antimatter (AM). The amount of ship AM depends on the ship rarity and level (gaining 50 AM per level), as follows:

Starting Antimatter can also be increased during crew selection. Each of the crew slots along with the ship slot give you the opportunity to match traits . A matched ship traits adds 150 AM, while each matched crew trait adds 25 AM.

There is some balance required between selecting a crew that matches a trait, which would add 25 starting AM, and crew that has higher voyage skill values. A single missed hazard costs more 30 AM, so a trait match crew may save your voyage a single hazard . However, increased voyage skill values result in a better chance to pass the hazard . In addition, each time the voyage is revived, it will restart with the starting AM, so if you plan to revive multiple times, starting AM is worth much more than a chance to pass a hazard in a voyage over 12 hours, where chances to pass hazard are very low.

Crew Traits

Following is a table of crew traits used by voyage slot type over 100+ voyages (Contributed by Greybeard), which has been confirmed by further data collected from the community:

Medicine

During the Voyage

Every expiration of the "quick" timer results in a voyage activity of type normal , hazard , or dilemma .

A new normal activity (consuming 1 AM) will occur every 20s with the expiration and reset of the quick timer. This means there are three activites per minute or 30 in a 10 minute period.

Every 140 seconds, a normal activity will grant a reward (every seventh activity).

Every 80 seconds, a hazard activity occurs instead of a normal activity, resulting in an increase of 5 AM or a loss of 30 AM, unless a reward-granting normal activity is due to take place, in which case it occurs instead.

Every 2 hours a dilemma activity occurs instead of a hazard activity (with the expiration of the long timer). When a dilemma is available, the voyage progress will halt until the player makes a choice.

As the voyage progresses, the antimatter will eventually reduce to zero, resulting in a failed voyage. Before the antimatter has expired, the player may recall the voyage, collecting the voyage rewards after a recall time. After the antimatter has expired, the player may continue the voyage by spending a Voyage Revival Token or dilithium , or the player may abandon the voyage causing the crew to immediately become available with the loss of any gained voyage rewards.

Normal activity

Normal activities range from poetry competitions to exploring alien planets. Each of these activities deducts 1 AM. Every 7th normal activity (every 140s) will produce a Reward.

Rewards occur during normal activities, and in the process your crew will unearth resources ( credits , honor , chronitons , components , crew experience training , replicator rations , items or crew ) which your crew takes back to the ship. Activities which give rewards also deduct 1 AM.

Hazards test one skill indicated by the hazard marker. If your crew avoids the hazard, you will gain 5 AM. If they fail you will lose 30 AM.

Hazards test your crew's total capability in a skill set, not the individual skill of a single crew member. The total is computed as the sum of a single skill type over all crew for the base plus average proficiency ( base + ((max + min) / 2) ).

Hazards do not give rewards. Hazards are what will burn through your AM reserves very quickly if your crew isn't up to the challenge.

Difficulty of Hazards

The hazards increase in chance of failure with voyage duration, meaning that in the beginning the chance to win all hazards is very high until a certain point when the chance of winning a hazard is 0%. At that point, your crew will fail every hazard and your voyage will quickly lose its reserves of AM.

The hazard failure chance threshold increases steadily and is compared against your crew's total skill value, so the larger the skill values are the longer it will take for a hazard to reach a high chance of failure.

List of Hazards

Voyages/Hazards

If your crew has survived enough hazards lasting two hours, your crew will be presented with a Dilemma - a stop point during your voyage that presents a situation that requires interaction. You, the player, must choose a course of action, all of which award some loot, possibly including Honor (30 to 100), Chronitons (30 to 75), Ship Schematics , Crew or Items .

During a Dilemmas , the voyage is paused. AM is not consumed and the timer does not advance. Until a solution is chosen by the player, the voyage will not continue. This can be used as a fail-safe by players -- for instance during an overnight voyage. However, if your skills are not strong enough, you can deplete your AM before reaching the next Dilemma .

A helpful method to use for determining whether your voyage will meet the next dilemma is to divide your current AM by 21 to get a worst-case estimate of the number of minutes your voyage has left if it fails all hazards. This is the result of the following calculation:

Worst-case voyage AM decay rate (if all hazards fail)

  • One hazard every 80 seconds, skip every sixth (every 480s is a reward instead);
  • 30 AM loss per hazard, +3 AM loss for three ticks at 20s, 40s, and 60s
  • = -33AM/80s
  • = -.4125 AM/s
  • Non-30 AM loss every 480s
  • = 30AM/480s = .0625 AM/s
  • Add 1 loss every 480s
  • = 1/480 = .002083
  • = -.4125 + .0625 + .002083 = -.347916 (*60 s/m) = 20.875 AM/m

So a voyage with 630 AM remaining will continue another 30 minutes if all hazards fail, and longer if any pass. This also means having 2400 AM guarantees another 2h of voyage time, which is long enough to make it to a dilemma.

List of Dilemmas

Rewards over time.

Chroniton

Dilemmas, one every two hours, have a unique reward table. It is possible, for instance, to obtain a batch of 600 schematics , even for otherwise unobtainable ships (such as the NX-01 Enterprise ), making Voyages the only currently available way to obtain elusive ships .

Before the first dilemma

Between the first and the third dilemma.

Note that dilemmas which award one of the voyage-exclusive super rare crew do not award any honor or chronitons.

After the third dilemma

Reward drop percentages.

This table lists approximate drop rates (over 300 voyages from Greybeard) for items by type between dilemmas.

This table lists approximate drop rates (over 300 voyages from Greybeard) for items by type at dilemmas. (Note that the 97% rate for chrons/honor is due to those not rewarded when selecting voyage-exclusive crew from a dilemma sequence.)

Recalling a Voyage

As long as you have AM remaining, you can recall the starship. The voyage home does not consume any AM. The ship will take a certain time to return to you, and you will receive the rewards and be able to use the crew otherwise.

The trip back requires 40% of the Voyage time (e.g. if your trip was four hours long it will take one hour, 36 minutes for the ship to come back). You can speed up the return with dilithium .

After the return you will have a chance to see the complete log of your Voyage.

Running out of Antimatter

A player can run out of antimatter only because of normal activity (one AM per action) or of hazards (30 AM per failure). When reaching 0 AM, the ship is stranded in space: the player has the choice of aborting the mission (sacrificing all the rewards) or refilling the AM by spending a Voyage Revival Token or dilithium .

If any voyage revival tokens are in your inventory, they must all be spent before you are able to spend dilithim to revive the voyage. They can be earned in some events as threshold rewards and are sometimes offered as compensation for bugs and server crashes in the game.

Dilithium

If you choose to abandon the mission, then your crew will be returned to active duty immediately without a waiting period, but you will not receive any of the rewards you've collected.

It is not possible to recall a ship and obtain the rewards without at least 1 AM left.

The WereDragon Strategy

Further tests has shown that the gold skill will occur nearly 36% of the time while silver skill 24% of the time (Sample size: 3,165 skill checks in 10 voyages). The other skills will fall between 7% to 12% (with one occurrence of 15%).

The silver and gold skills will occur 60% of the time. These skills should have your primary focus. If you are intending to do a 6 hour voyage, they should be minimally at 6,000. The higher, the better. 7,000 would be recommended.

Choose a skill to sacrifice. You want that skill as low as possible to boost your other skills. As an example, lets sacrifice engineering. A fully equipped lvl 100 Gangster Spock has the stats of 276 eng, 992 sec, and 671 sci for voyages. You can use Gangster Spock as your engineer to boost up your Security and Science. Engineering skill checks will fail most of the time and eventually all the time as the voyage progress, BUT you are playing the odds. In this example, Engineering will only come up 7% to 12% of the time. That's it. That is a very small percentage. And by sacrificing engineering, you can boost the other skills and those skills will take longer before they start failing skill checks.

A modified strategy (called the NATE mod), is to sacrifice 2 skills but not to the same degree. With a pure WereDragon strategy, it is quite possible to have the skill beneath 1,000. In the NATE mod, the 2 skills will fall between 1,000 and 3,000. Again, the thought is the same. You are playing the odds. You sacrifice 2 skills to boost the other 4 skills.

Player suggestions

  • A player-made tool to calculate an approximate duration of your Voyage using your crew's skills can be found here .
  • Due to the fact that all the skill points of a crew contribute to the ship's total, Voyages have a slight bias in favour of crew members with points in three skills.
  • As the difficulty increases at a certain point you will start failing all hazards. At that point you can roughly calculate how long it will take you to run out of AM based on your current reserve. The pattern of hazards every four activities and rewards every seven means that, once all hazards are being failed, antimatter depletes at an average rate of slightly less than 22 AM per minute. There is no point in recalling the ship when it has hundreds, or thousands, of AM in reserve, but waiting too much might result in accidentally running out. Running a voyage is safe until you have 31 AM or less in reserve - using the pattern can enable you to work out the optimal time to recall (immediately after the last reward you can collect before you reach a hazard that would bring your AM below 1).
  • Voyages offer a great amount of common and uncommon crew, and are one of the fastest and cheaper ways for newer players to obtain all copies of such crew.

Screen Rant

Every soong character brent spiner plays in star trek.

Besides playing Data and all of his siblings in Star Trek, Brent Spiner portrayed the android's creator as well as various other Soongs in history.

  • Brent Spiner's diverse acting career within the Star Trek universe allowed him to play every Soong character, showcasing his range.
  • Dr. Noonien Soong, Data's creator, focused on creating androids, while Dr. Arik Soong's experiments led to genetic disasters.
  • Dr. Adam Soong, a villainous figure, sought personal acclaim over the well-being of his cloned daughters and was willing to murder to achieve it.

Most remembered for his turn as Lt. Commander Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation , Brent Spiner also went on to play every single Soong character that has been introduced in the Star Trek universe. Starting with Data's creator, Dr. Noonien Soong on TNG , the celebrated character actor has been tapped to play different Soongs throughout Trek 's extended timeline. Each new Soong gave Spiner a chance to show off his acting range , and they also fleshed out the dynasty of Data's mysterious cyberneticist father. The complicated Soong lineage stretches back to the 21st century as seen in Star Trek: Picard .

Since Data was created in the image of his father, Dr. Noonien Soong, it only made sense to have the chameleon-like actor take a turn as the scientist in one of Data's best episodes , TNG season 4, episode 3, "Brothers." The trend continued when Data's ancestor, Dr. Arik Soong, was introduced in that Star Trek: Enterprise season 4 with Spiner returning for the prequel series. Star Trek: Picard not only allowed Spiner to reprise his role as Data, but it introduced Adam and Altan Inigo Soong , both of whom were from different time periods and offered conflicting views of the Soong family legacy.

6 dr. adam soong, star trek: picard.

Dr. Adam Soong was the earliest known Soong, and his encounters with Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) in 2024 Los Angeles were the subject of Star Trek: Picard season 2 . Dr. Soong was an eccentric and dangerous billionaire whose scientific obsession led him to the fields of human genetic engineering and augmentation. Adam created a series of cloned "daughters" through the process, though they all suffered from a deadly genetic defect. In the end, Soong's only surviving daughter, Kore Soong (Isa Briones), discovered the truth about her so-called father and destroyed all of his research.

In Star Trek: Picard season 2's dark alternate reality, Adam Soong was considered a hero by the Confederation of Planets.

The villainous Adam Soong made Data's backstory more interesting , as there were parallels between the struggles of each generation of Soong to perfect their designs. Although Adam was determined to find a cure for Kore's genetic defect, he was driven not by love for his cloned daughter, but rather by a desire to make a name for himself. Soong was so obsessed with his own legacy that he was willing to murder Renée Picard (Penelope Mitchell) to prevent her from making a discovery on the Europa Mission that would render Soong's research obsolete. Far from the mad genius of his successors, Dr. Adam Soong's murderous ways were just mad.

5 Dr. Arik Soong

Star trek: enterprise.

In the 22nd century, Dr. Arik Soong came across Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) and the NX-01 Enterprise crew in Star Trek: Enterprise season 4, and Arik had taken up the twisted mantel of his ancestor, Adam Soong. Star Trek: Picard season 2 revealed that Dr. Adam Soong possessed a file entitled Project Khan, the genetic engineering protocol that led to the creation of Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalban) and his reign of terror. Dr. Arik Soong took the genetic research used to create Khan even further. After stealing genetically altered embryos from Khan's Eugenics War , Dr. Arik Soong raised the enhanced children only to have them violently rebel just like Khan did in Star Trek: The Original Series .

Arik Soong's misguided efforts eventually led to a genetic disaster within the Klingon race, as they used leftover Augment DNA in an attempt to create Klingon Augments.

Dr. Arik Soong tried to convince his Augment "children" not to kill anyone, but when they disobeyed him, he helped Captain Archer stop them. After the failure of his Augments, Arik Soong was taken back to prison, where he decided to shift his focus to the study of artificial life. This marked an important shift in the Soong dynasty, as their focus on artificial intelligence would eventually lead to Data and his brothers. Later, Arik Soong's protégés used his work to create Dal R'El (Brett Gray), a Human Augment hybrid, who did not discover his true history until the end of Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 .

4 Dr. Noonien Soong

Star trek: the next generation.

During the 24th century of Star Trek: The Next Generation , Dr. Noonien Soong's legacy was cemented when his creation, Lt. Commander Data, became a decorated Starfleet officer. A misunderstood genius, Noonien Soong created several androids while living on Omicron Theta, including Data, the prototype B-4, and Data's unstable precursor, Lore . While living among the colonists on Omicron Theta, Lore began to believe himself superior to humans and exhibited frightening behavior. Noonien Soong then deactivated Lore and designed better ethical subroutines for Data. Unbeknownst to Dr. Soong, Lore had communicated with the Crystalline Entity prior to his deactivation, and the Entity then attacked Omicron Theta.

Dr. Noonien Soong had none of the deadly intent of Dr. Adam Soong.

Dr. Noonien Soong was presumed dead in the attack, but he had managed to escape and continued his research elsewhere. In TNG's "Brothers," Soong activated a homing beacon in Data and revealed he had created an emotion chip for the android . Unfortunately, Lore also responded to the homing beacon and stole the chip meant for his brother, before fatally wounding his father. Dr. Soong was legitimately interested in creating artificial life and had ditched his family's previous obsession with genetic augmentation. Though his abandoning of his creations led to Frankenstein -like consequences when Lore murdered him, Dr. Noonien Soong had none of the deadly intent of Dr. Adam Soong.

3 Dr. Altan Inigo Soong

The 2385 attack on Mars was the inciting incident of Star Trek: Picard season 1, and the fallout from the attack led to the all-out ban of artificial lifeforms. Picard season 1 introduced Dr. Altan Inigo Soong, who was Dr. Noonien Soong's only biological child , and technically brother to Data, Lore, and B-4. Dr. Altan Soong's pursuits were closer to that of his father than his other ancestors, and he partnered with fellow cyberneticist Dr. Bruce Maddox (John Ales) to illegally pursue artificial life despite the ban. Soong and Maddox went on to build a laboratory and a community of androids on the planet Coppelius.

Bruce Maddox became convinced that someone within the Federation had been behind the attack on Mars, so he created the androids Soji and Dahj Asha (Isa Briones) to uncover the truth.

Altan Soong remained on Coppelius, looking after his android "children," and working on a means to transfer a person's consciousness into a synthetic body he called a golem. Although Soong originally meant for this synthetic form for himself, he later gifted the golem body to Jean-Luc Picard after Picard died of a terminal brain disease. Soong had also created artificial animals like Spot II and synthetic butterflies, proving he had more diverse interests than the other Soongs. After the ban on synthetics was lifted, Soong redirected his efforts to create a newly upgraded version of Data , that also incorporated the memories of Lore, B-4, and Data's daughter, Lal (Hallie Todd).

Data’s Evil Relatives: Every Soong’s Biggest Crimes In Star Trek

2 the soongs abandoned eugenics in favor of androids, later in life, arik soong chose to focus on artificial life rather than genetic engineering..

The changes in Klingon appearance were the result of Dr. Arik Soong's botched genetic augmentation during Enterprise , and his spectacular failures led him to shift his focus from genetics to synthetics before the end of his life. Arik understood that research into artificial life still had a long way to go and that it would take generations before there would be tangible results. From this point on, the Soongs worked in the field of cybernetics, hoping to create artificial life that was indistinguishable from organic life.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is the latest Star Trek series to explore the time period between Arik and Noonien, and it could provide more clues about the Soongs and their obsession with artificial life.

By all appearances, Dr. Noonien Soong had stronger morals than his ancestors and genuinely cared for Data and the other androids he created. Throughout Star Trek: The Next Generation , Data became the Soong family's greatest accomplishment, as he saved the USS Enterprise-D on numerous occasions and achieved his own level of humanity. Tragically, Data sacrificed himself to save his friends in Star Trek: Nemesis , but this was not the end of Noonien Soong's best creation.

1 Data In Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Is Soong's Greatest Success

Picard season 3 brought closure to data and the soongs' star trek story..

After his deaths in both Star Trek: Nemesis and Star Trek: Picard season 1, Data was officially resurrected in Picard season 3. During their quest to uncover the Changeling/Borg plot to destroy the Federation, Admiral Picard and his crew found what remained of Data being used for security on Daystrom Station . They quickly rescued their old friend, whose consciousness had been combined with those of Lore, B-4, and Lal . Although Lore's personality briefly took over the upgraded android body, Data became the dominant personality in the end.

By the end of Star Trek: Picard season 3, Data had become as close to human as possible.

With this new human-like synthetic body, not only could Data experience physical sensations, but he could also feel organic human emotions for the first time. When piloting the rebuilt Enterprise-D, for example, Data experienced joy that even Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) could feel. Data reunited with his best friend, Commodore Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), and the rest of his old crew, bringing his Star Trek story to a satisfying conclusion. By the end of Star Trek: Picard season 3 , Data had become as close to human as possible, finally achieving his life-long dream and cementing himself as the Soongs' greatest success.

Star Trek: The Original Series, Season 2, Episode 6 - "The Doomsday Machine"

Captain kirk risks his life to destroy the planet killer..

When Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise find a distress signal from the USS Constellation in the wake of a trail of ruined worlds, they embark on a deadly quest of sacrifice and survival. Commodore Matt Decker (William Windom), Kirk’s friend, alone on the wrecked starship, is the sole survivor of an encounter with a planet-destroying ancient doomsday device .

"The Doomsday Machine" offers an important glimpse at Kirk’s multifaceted and commendable psyche.

Decker’s foiled attempt to take the Enterprise into the machine’s maw leads to a mildly successful but self-sacrificial run with an Enterprise shuttle and prompts Kirk to make a similar attempt on a grander scale with the rigged-to-explode devastated USS Constellation. Star Trek: The Original Series, Season 1, Episode 19 - "Arena"

Captain kirk fights the gorn..

Invited to a colony on Cestus III, Captain Kirk's landing party is greeted with the revelation that the message they received had been faked and the colony destroyed. Under attack, Kirk suspects a prelude to invasion. The battle quickly moves back to the ship as the Enterprise pursues the enemy vessel at high speed into Metron space. Objecting to the conflict, the Metrons remove Kirk and the enemy captain – a Gorn – to the surface of a suitable world for them to settle their differences.

Engaged in a personal battle for survival, Kirk learns that the Gorn regarded Cestus III as their territory and were repelling invaders – that, potentially, Starfleet had been at fault. Kirk balances intellect, speed, and flexibility against the Gorn’s superior strength and stamina to triumph, ultimately refusing to meet the life-or-death terms of the engagement set by the Metrons. "Arena" is an instructive moment for Kirk, who demonstrates an openness befitting his role when confronted with the possibility of guilt and wrongdoing. It’s also an iconic, much-loved moment as Captain Kirk battles the ruthless Gorn captain .

Complete History Of The Gorn In Star Trek

When the USS Enterprise encounters the Fesarius in “The Corbomite Maneuver,” Kirk is locked in a pattern of escalating diversions and ruses with the clock counting down to the destruction of the Enterprise. Kirk is increasingly stymied until a chance mention of chess and bluffing leads to the realization of a large-scale poker match. Feigning impatience, Kirk raises the stakes with a bluff about a defensive corbomite device installed on the ship that results in the destruction of any attacking ships and ultimately cultivates a first contact and friendly exchange scheme with the Fesarius’ commander, Balok (Clint Howard) .

In “The Deadly Years,” a rapidly aging Captain Kirk is removed from command, with Commodore Stocker (Charles Drake) taking over in his stead. Stocker quickly has the Enterprise violating the Neutral Zone and under attack. When the virus’ potential remedy “ could cure or kill ,” Kirk doesn’t hesitate to receive the first dose. Recovered, he returns to the bridge and broadcasts a bluff over a coded channel known to be broken by the Romulans, allowing for the Enterprise’s escape. These episodes highlight Kirk’s quick thinking, command experience, and dedication to the security and well-being of his crew , even in the face of emotional loss and personal suffering.

Kirk fights spock in a battle of life and death..

When Spock enters pon farr (the Vulcan time of mating), and Kirk is selected as the opposing champion for Kal-if-fee (challenge) , the two close friends and crewmates must fight each other in ritual combat. Desperate to save his friend, driven crazed by blood fever, and awed by the presence of T’Pau (Celia Lovsky) – whom Kirk considered to be “ all of Vulcan in one package ,” Kirk is hindered by a different atmosphere, superior Vulcan strength, and limited understanding of (secretive) Vulcan customs.

With Star Trek ’s two most iconic figures pitted against each other in a battle for survival, this episode – and fight scene – marks a significant moment for Captain James T. Kirk, carefully navigating a sensitive cultural ritual and now facing a personal no-win scenario. As Kirk struggles between the choice of killing Spock or being killed by Spock, it’s Dr. McCoy who ultimately saves both parties. Kirk’s willingness to defy orders and accept risk and sacrifice is again showcased here, alongside an exploration of Vulcan culture, friendship, and morality.

Star Trek: The Original Series, Season X, Episode X - "Balance of Terror"

Captain kirk faces off against a formidable romulan enemy..

A mysterious, unidentified vessel attacks multiple Starfleet outposts along the Neutral Zone. The attacker is soon identified as a Romulan ship capable of cloaking, and Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise embark on a deadly battle of nerve and tactical mastery . Identified as one of Star Trek: The Original Series and Captain Kirk's best episodes , “Balance of Terror” showcases Kirk’s ingenuity and strategic genius to great effect.

William Shatner’s performance as Kirk is skillful and measured here, allowing for an unusual insight into the character’s thinking processes, morality, and tactical genius. At all times, he’s considered, sensitive, responsible, commanding, and capable. Offering a unique perspective on the progression between Human and Romulan relations and a valuable understanding of Captain Kirk’s balance of instinct, analysis, and control, this episode absolutely deserves mention among his greatest moments.

Everything Pike Changed From TOS' "Balance Of Terror" In Strange New Worlds

Star trek: the original series, season 1, episode 28 - "city on the edge of forever", back in time to save dr. mccoy, captain kirk embarks on a tragic love story..

When Dr. McCoy accidentally injects himself with a large dose of cordrazine, he becomes hysterical and inadvertently alters the timeline when he jumps through the Guardian of Forever and loses himself in the past. To save their friend and recover their timeline, Kirk and Spock follow McCoy on an unusual journey to America’s Depression. Kirk meets and falls in love with the community-minded and visionary Edith Keeler (Joan Collins) , Captain Kirk's best known love interest , but the fate of everything pivots on her unfortunate demise.

Alongside impressive performances from the whole cast, William Shatner convincingly communicates the tender, heartfelt romance and savagery of the choice he is ultimately forced to endure . Considered one of Star Trek ’s all-time best episodes for good reason, this deep and resonating story expertly weaves a multi-layered, thought-provoking, and tragic tale of friendship, selflessness, sacrifice, and love.

Star Trek III: The Search For Spock

Kirk steals the uss enterprise..

Star Trek III: The Search For Spock sees Kirk returning to the now off-limits Genesis Planet to save both of his closest friends. Directed by Leonard Nimoy, this emotionally courageous and thrilling movie follows a wayward Admiral Kirk and the Enterprise command crew sacrificing everything they have for the sake of friendship and family. Kirk disobeys direct orders and commits multiple crimes , engineering the theft of the USS Enterprise and setting a course for Spock.

Star Trek III is raw, dramatic, and emotionally intense, with Star Trek ’s iconic heroes giving up everything to save their friends. Kirk’s close bond with Spock and the ailing Dr. McCoy sets the stakes as incredibly personal and of the utmost importance, later intimately compounded by the murder of Kirk’s son David Marcus (Merritt Butrick) and the destruction of the USS Enterprise on Kirk’s command – an unthinkable act in any other circumstance. This movie vitally enhances Kirk’s established character , his raw emotions conflicting with the morality of his Starfleet vow, originating a later uncharacteristic resentment against the Klingons and fracturing a carefully cultivated façade.

Stretched to his limits, Kirk’s many sacrifices are borne of desperation and attachment – contrasting a lifetime of sacrificial moments stemming from responsibility and inner strength. Over the course of Kirk’s multi-decade adventures, many moments of significance and valor demonstrate the character’s deepest motives, fond charm, and giant heart. Shatner’s excellent and nuanced portrayal of Star Trek ’s most famous captain cements a legacy of exceptional standout moments. Happy Birthday, William Shatner!

Star Trek Fans Debate Who Deserves Credit For Defeating Khan

Star Trek fans love the villain Khan and his eventual defeat, but which principal cast member is responsible for stopping the foe's wrath?

  • Even though Kirk is credited with defeating Khan in Star Trek II, some fans argue that Spock deserves more recognition for his crucial observation.
  • Spock's strategic observation of Khan's ship maneuvers was key in defeating the villain, making the battle a team effort.
  • While the debate continues, Khan's complex legacy in the Star Trek universe lives on, with his unique origins providing endless storytelling potential.

While Khan is one of Star Trek 's most iconic villains, and fans adore his appearances in the franchise, one Star Trek fan started a conversation about whether Kirk or Spock deserves credit for shutting down Khan.

First appearing in the original Star Trek series, Khan Noonien Singh was a genetically modified human who had been cryogenically preserved aboard a ship with his fellow survivors after action was taken against the Augments (as the genetically modified humans were known) due to their attempted conquest of Earth. After the crew of the Enterprise inadvertently free him and have to curtail his renewed attempts at taking control, Captain Kirk exiles Khan and his people to an uninhabited world, where the villain would remain until the events of Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan , a film popularly considered the best Star Trek movie .

Star Trek Fans Explain Why They Hate Patrick Stewart's Picard Series

While the credit for Khan's defeat at the end of the film is generally accredited to Kirk, who was in command during the film's events, Reddit user Seraphim1982 thinks that the glory should go to someone else. On the site’s r/startrek subreddit, the user penned a short complaint under the header “History records the Kirk defeated Khan but really it was Spock,” and points out that it was Spock and not Kirk that made the all-important observation that Khan was maneuvering his ship as if it existed on a two-dimensional battlefield as opposed to the three-dimensional theatre of open space. This observation is the key to turning the tide against Khan and lets the heroes defeat him in arguably one of Star Trek 's most important battles .

Going further, Seraphim1982 pointed out that if Spock had retained command during the encounter, he would have followed protocol and had shields up at the time of Khan's first surprise attack, which would have left Khan's commandeered starship Reliant in a losing battle with the Enterprise, which was the more powerful ship despite both being some of the best starcraft at that point in the Star Trek timeline . Other fans in the replies seem to agree with his assessment but pointed out that his and every other battle in the franchise was a team effort, and both characters deserve credit alongside everyone who participated in the hostilities on their side. As for the in-universe credit, one fan alluded to the ideas of General Chang, who once mentioned that the captain in charge was responsible for the crew’s mistakes and, as such, should also receive the credit.

Khan is iconic for a reason and was recently brought back uniquely in Star Trek: Brave New Worlds . Due to this popularity, details of his appearances will always be up for debate and rehashing by fans of the franchise, and the actual credit for his defeat seems interesting to go over. While Seraphim1982 makes significant points in support of seeing Spock as the one to do away with Khan, the villain himself is obsessed with and driven by his thirst for revenge against Kirk, who stranded him on the planet and (in Khan's eyes) caused the death of his wife and comrades. With this in mind, there’s no doubt that as far as the narrative and Khan himself are concerned, that was Kirk's victory.

While the discussion surrounding his defeat keeps resuming, Khan's complex legacy in the Star Trek universe has lived on beyond that point in time. With the plethora of science fiction plot devices available in the franchise, it's uncertain whether Khan can ever truly be defeated for good due to his unending popularity and the great potential for stories that his unique origins provide.

The Star Trek franchise is available for streaming on Paramount Plus.

Star Trek is a space exploration franchise originally created by Gene Roddenberry. The series has spanned shows like The Original Series, The Next Generation, and Voyager.
